Bug#568839: tasksel: please add readahead-fedora to the desktop task
Seeing that readahead-fedora is dead upstream [1] and can actually have negative effects with SSDs (which are becoming more and more common on laptop hardware), I would advise against installing readahead-fedora by default for desktop tasks. And still waiting... This is a good idea to have, specially for people that don't know about it, if they install a standard Debian desktop then they should get this package by default... For comparison, Ubuntu is phasing out usplash in favor of plymouth. It's not an altogether smooth transition, but usplash isn't seen as viable to maintain in the long term. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Please add it. Why only in the desktop task? Is the rationale that boot speedup is mostly meant for single-user machines, so, basically, Joe User's own laptop or desktop? Package: tasksel Version: 2.81 Severity: wishlist Hi, Given the boot speed improvements provided by readahead-fedora it would be convenient if it is installed by default on the desktop task. Please add it. Thanks in advance. Cheers, -- Raphael Geissert - Debian Developer www.debian.org - get.debian.net signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.
