I'm glad to see these are packaged now, and will be happy to add tasks
to tasksel. I don't have time to put the tasks together myself, but
it should be easy to put something together using task-gnome-desktop
as a starting place.

Adding new image options shouldn't be too difficult, but beware that
we might even start to struggle for space on DVD#1 if we end up with
lots of different desktops...!

I'm not sure we want to support every desktop environment out there… but
I guess tasks might not hurt, so punting that to tasksel. And adding
debian-cd@ to the loop, to get some feelings about whether new images
would sound like a vaguely sane idea (I'm really not sure).

although now I think we actually do, so maybe we want to revisit this.

If packaging of those is anywhere near complete, the next thing we'd
need are tasksel tasks for these desktops...

Bug#712696: debian-installer: Add Cinnamon and Mate as alternative DEs.

2013-08-09 Thread Paolo Inaudi

We do not have packages of these, and probably never will. This is not
a bug in the installer.

The correct way to report that you want a new package is to report a bug
against the pseudo-package 'wnpp'. There is already such a bug for
MATE, #708385.

Ben.

This is not right. As of 2012-11-17
(http://packages.qa.debian.org/c/cinnamon/news/20121117T18Z.html),
cinnamon has been admitted debian unstable and so it IS a debian package
(http://packages.debian.org/sid/cinnamon). As of 2013-05-06, cinnamon
migrated to testing, and it is now in jessie

So you should consider reopening this bug.
Paolo

Bug#712696: debian-installer: Add Cinnamon and Mate as alternative DEs.

2013-06-18 Thread lex
Package: debian-installer
Severity: wishlist

While most think as Mate and Cinnamon only as forks of Gnome (2 and 3
respectively), both are now full DEs, with their own features. Thanks to Linux
Mint people pushing them, they've gained a noticeable userbase.

Cinnamon has many option lacking in Gnome Shell, and way more customization
capabilites. Mate is loved by Gnome Panel nostalgics, and it's the perfect
first DE for people coming from Windows.

I think it would be a good idea to include them both alongside Gnome, KDE, Xfce
and LXDE.
