D-I beta 3 can't find CD drive on Dell XPS M1710

2006-08-24 Thread Sven Mueller
Hi.

Trying to install with D-I beta 3 (i386, DVD binary-1), the installation
fails due to the CD drive not being detected. This seems to be a
PIIX/sata problem with the SATA driver blocking the PATA ports without
supporting them again.

Find attached an lspci -v and dmesg log. If you need any other logs,
please let me know, preferrably also by CCing me. I'm subscribed, but
sometimes don't have enough spare time to check the list.

regards,
Sven

PS: The selection screen for loading individual modules (IIRC) says
ALT-F2 would lead to a prompt and ALT-F1 would lead back to the dialogue
even in graphical installs where it is CTRL-ALT-F2 and (CTRL-)ALT-F7 (or
F5?) respectively.
