Please forgive this post.
I think all of this was due to the fact that cdrecord was broken and I
probably didn't saw the cd was not burned correctly.
Shame on me ! I'm really sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Regards.

apt-utils problem during installation

2004-05-21 Thread Meghazi Fabien
Hi,

I'm testing the new debian installer version 20040520 downloaded at
http://cdimage.debian.org/pub/cdimage-testing/sarge_d-i/i386/20040520/

During the "install base system" process, the installation was stopped
claiming : "The debootstrap program exited with an error (return value 1)"

Syslog on console 3 shows this :

blah blah blah from deselect ...

Setting up base-config (2.21)

Errors where encountered while processing:
 apt-utils
umount: /target/dev/pts: No such file or directory
umount: /target/dev/shm: No such file or directory
umount: /target/proc/bus/usb: Invalid argument

If i do a find / -name apt-util*

I get :

/cdrom/pool/main/a/apt/apt-utils_0.5.25_i386.deb
/target/var/lib/dpkg/info/apt-utils.postrm
/target/var/lib/dpkg/info/apt-utils.list
/target/var/lib/dpkg/info/apt-utils.postinst
/target/var/lib/dpkg/info/apt-utils.md5sums
/target/var/lib/dpkg/info/apt-utils.shlibs
/target/usr/share/doc/apt-utils

Don't know if it's corrected on cvs or something so I post this anyway.
Sorry if it has been already corrected.

Sorry I don't have much of a clue. That's good you're using the latest
release version. For i386, there are 4 different flavors (check out the
install documentation in the disks-i386/doc folder). It may be you would
have better luck trying the idepci flavor, if you were trying plain vanilla.

When it is looking for the rescue floppy, it's really looking for
rescue.bin, the rescue floppy image. It's actually asking you to identify
which flavor you want by pointing it to a rescue.bin within the right flavor
directory.

Hi, I had chosen Debian as my new OSbut I cant install it...I have a problem in the step of ``Instalar el núcleo del sistema operativo y los módulos'' (i think is "Install OS Kernel and packages") well, the thing is that when I put the CD nº1 it asks for the rescue floppy (¿?)and if I put CD nº2 it ask for a filr rescue.bin, when i manually select the location of file, it turns be be nothing in there...
Well, more details of the situation are: HD is the secondary master of 3.2Gb with a linux native partition of 2.5Gb and a swap one of 700Mb, and I boot the system fron the CD nº1...

A bit more information is needed. What architecture, and what revision of CD's. Are you using Potato CDs, perhaps 2.2r3 ( which would be the latest release)?

Also more people will read your email if you post in plain text, not html.
