Alternatively, remove /sbin/pump before DHCP is called, and it will use the other DHCP client and just work. I haven't tried setting a static address (I forgot to write down the DNServer address of my provider), but removing pump did the trick. Here is my list of problems by now: - after booting the CD in my SCSI drive I have to reinsert it in an USB drive, cause the aic7xxx driver has been dropped from initrd due to size constraints. Joey told me that this is work in progress. - while the aic7xxx driver is performing a reset I have to switch to console 2 to remove /sbin/pump to make dhcp work. Weired. - I get a list of distros to select from, (stable, testing, unstable), but selecting unstable I get an error message about some missing package files. When there is a new netinst image I will give it a try. Regards Harri -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Harald Dunkel wrote: I can't remember being asked for a driver floppy. All I saw was a huge menu to chose some of the strange special CDROM drives. Yeah, you have to get past that and to the main menu, and then when you try to load parts of the installer it will have floppy as an option. Anyway, lets assume that I don't have a floppy drive in my PC. There should be sufficient space on the netinst CD to put the SCSI drivers into the initrd. There is a 2.88 MB limit on the size of the boot image for some CDs. The comressed size of a full set of scsi drivers for the linux kernel, excluding scsi raid controllers, is some 750k. -- see shy jo signature.asc Description: Digital signature

I got a red screen about some network dhcp failure, even though ifconfig on the console showed me that the NIC was correctly configured. Floppy drives are more or less obsolete today. A network install is surely more efficient than writing Sarge on more than 6 CDs to do a CDROM installation. So I would guess it is pretty important to get the netinst CD working. This seems to be because the netinst CDs have netcfg-dhcp on them. That version was broken and did not depend on any dhcp clients; the udeb_include on the CD pulls in pump, pump is broken due to some library bug. The missing dhcp dependency was put back in version 0.34, which has been stuck in NEW for 10 days. (This is getting kinda annoying.) At least on mips I see the same, caused by missing name resolving. A numeric IP instead of the mirror name is a workaround for the first step, a echo nameserver ip-addr /etc/resolv.conf allows to continue. Yes, see the INSTALLATION-HOWTO: 2.1.1 SCSI CD drives If you have a SCSI CD drive, then you will also currently need one driver floppy to let the installer see your CD drive. See section 2.2 for information about floppys, and download the scsi_drivers floppy image and write it to disk. You will be given an opportunity to load drivers from the floppy after the installer fails to see your SCSI CD drive, and after loading the floppy, the installer will see your CD ROM. However, this is slated to change, the next beta of the installer should support SCSI CD drives without a driver floppy, if the SCSI controller is one of a small set of common controllers (currently those driven by the aic7xxx, BusLogic, and sym53c8xx modules, but I am still in the process of deciding what gets in). By contrast, USB CDROM should work, but has probably not gotten enough testing. -- see shy jo signature.asc Description: Digital signature

I could not select anything else but Configure and Mount Partitions. And it did nothing. Especially the new partition for / was neither formatted for reiserfs, nor was it mounted.
