Re: bad experience with Gnome 3.8 on kFreeBSD

now, everything make sense.
so, what we really need is 3D acceleration running fine. I have hybrid
cards and 3D acceleration not working here.

That's not correct. kFreeBSD provides 3D acceleration and we even have
confirmation of developers using it (e.g. Christoph).

If Christoph has working 3D support on his kfreebsd system, could he
install gnome-core (from sid) and test which bits work and which don't?

So far, the only feedback the Debian GNOME team has from kfreebsd users
(admittedly only 1 or 2 so far) is that GNOME Shell does *not* run on
 kfreebsd.

bad experience with Gnome 3.8 on kFreeBSD

2013-10-17 Thread Bruno Melo
Hi,
I have kFreeBSD jessie here and I have installed the last gnome 3.8
packages for transition from sid and I came here to report my bad
experience:
1- Alt+Tab doesn't work.
2-GDM unusable (using LightDM now)
3- Wallpaper doesn't appear, just a black screen.
4- Empathy and Epiphany don't show anything. Empathy doesn't show the
conversation and Epiphany the websites.
5- The multimedia apps also have problems.
6- Gnome Shell obviously can't run because kFreeBSD have not 3D
acceleration.
I recommend to you install kFreeBSD and test for themselves to see what I'm
talking about. It's almost unusable :/
Thanks

intel driver on kfreebsd

2013-09-22 Thread Bruno Melo
Hi,
Christoph Egger was able to make intel driver work on kfreebsd 9.2, but not
me.
I have found the existence of a new xorg in freebsd ports, that xorg is
able to run video from dual gpu computers (like me: radeon and intel).
Maybe that it why it isn't working for me.
What do you think about it?

it's very very very hot and the battery dies in +/- 1 hour.

well, i think it's time to bring kfreebsd 10 r254885 to test radeonkms, or
not?

where is eclipse?

2013-09-05 Thread Bruno Melo
why eclipse is not in kfreebsd? it's the best ide, i think necessary...

intel graphics and audio driver

2013-08-11 Thread Bruno Melo
kFreeBSD has intel graphics card working for ivybridge? I have kFreeBSD 10
and 9.2.
And how to enable pulseaudio? I'm using jessie, the oss driver not transmit
audio from my headphone, only from notebook speakers.
Thanks.

Re: Re: Bug#684593: linkms / kfreebsd only needs packaging changes now

2013-08-11 Thread Bruno Melo
maybe I can check, but not sure because apparently
xserver-xorg-video-radeon from wheezy/jessie/sid not works for me on
linux, so if works on kfreebsd I won't see any effect. I have Radeon HD
7730M, I think the current driver (1:6.14.4-8) not support my gpu.
but your patch will enable 3D acceleration? I'm dying to make playable
0ad :D

WEP wireless

2013-08-10 Thread Bruno Melo
Hi, someone can guide me to configure WEP wireless in kFreeBSD (hardware
atheros)?

Re: WEP wireless

2013-08-10 Thread Bruno Melo
I follow the instructions from handbook:
*ifconfig wlan0 create wlandev ath0
**ifconfig wlan0 inet 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 ssid
WALUBAMEwepmode onwepkey
maximoemelo06
*
**after:
*wpa_supplicant -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
*
and i got:
ioctl[SIOCS80211, op=20, val=0, arg_len=7]: Invalid argument
ioctl[SIOCS80211, op=20, val=0, arg_len=7]: Invalid argument
wlan0: Trying to associate with 00:21:27:e2:7b:9a (SSID='WALUBAME'

wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-CONNECTED - Connection to 00:21:27:e2:7b:9a completed

and not connect.
Here is my wpa_supplicant.conf:

Have you tried following instructions for regular FreeBSD?

I haven't tried this but, probably something like this should work:

  # ifconfig wlan0 create wlandev ath0
  # ifconfig wlan0 ssid MYNETWORK wepkey 0x1234567890123 up
  # dhclient -v wlan0
You can also check the FreeBSD handbook, there's an extensive chapter on
 wireless setup:

Re: Call for testers: FreeBSD 9.1

2013-07-16 Thread Bruno Melo
Hey, i'm using 9.1 because it's the only with sound enabled. Oh, why the
sound just works using notebook's sound box and not headphone?
When it goes to sid?
And why kernel 10.0 isn't bootable in grub?
