I've added this to git now so we don't forget.

The patch doesn't apply without modifications, but the freebsd
porters can confirm that a similar patch is needed, I expect we
can easily apply it.

Indeed, although at one time you argued that it was a correctness
fix anyway. We seem to have a consensus that that's not the case, so
closing this.

Hi,

I finally (!) got round to submitting this upstream, at [1], and the
comment so far is that the patch isn't appropriate. If you have any
further thoughts, could you comment on the upstream RT ticket?

The test case:

perl -Mthreads -e 'threads->create(sub {})->detach; fork'

ran 10,000 times without crashing on my kfreeBSD KVM (SMP) VM, using
5.14.2-11 and up-to-date sid from today.

Can you reproduce this? If so, perhaps the problem has been solved
by some change in kFreeBSD.

Bug#672152: perl: FTBFS on kfreebsd-*: dist/threads-shared/t/waithires.t failing

2012-05-08 Thread Dominic Hargreaves

New failure I don't think we've seen before, consistent on both
arch buildds:

https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=perl&arch=kfreebsd-amd64&ver=5.14.2-10&stamp=1336466769

dist/threads-shared/t/waithiresFAILED at test 7

https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=perl&arch=kfreebsd-i386&ver=5.14.2-10&stamp=1336457980

dist/threads-shared/t/waithiresFAILED at test 35

We'll need to figure out exactly which test this is, which may be
cumbersome just reading the test source file.

May possibly be related to a sporadic test failure in threads described
in #628493. In that case, finzi was able to compile it but the other two
-i386 hosts weren't.

This did not appear when I tried compiling 5.14.2-10 on
asdfasdf.debian.net recently.

The problem only arises on Debian kFreeBSD (on bleadperl, 5.14, and 5.10).
It doesn't arise with plain FreeBSD. I'm guessing that the problem is
related to the __linux__ conditional at

http://perl5.git.perl.org/perl.git/blob/HEAD:/cpan/Socket/Socket.xs#l710

I'd be grateful for any confirmation, and suggestions from people more
familiar with kFreeBSD for how to proceed.

Just to be clear; the change I made was to add a Depends to the resultant
binary package, and nothing which could have introduced this problem.
