Bug#290443: apt-src: does not recognise installation succeeded when unpacking to APT::Src::Location
Package: apt-src Version: 0.25.1 Severity: normal I have apt-src configured to install source in /usr/src/debian by setting the APT::Src::Location configuration parameter in /etc/apt/apt.conf. After unpacking the source, apt-src errors out with this error: E: Did not unpack to $PWD/udev-0.050 where $PWD is your current directory. The error message is technically correct because the source was not unpacked there, but it was not meant to. This results in no entry being written to $HOME/.apt-src/status, so further apt-src commands report the source package is not installed. I must ensure my current directory is /usr/src/debian when I install a source package to be able to build it - defeating the purpose of APT::Src::Location. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.9-ch1-imladris-1 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages apt-src depends on: ii apt 0.5.27.2 Advanced front-end for dpkg ii dpkg-dev 1.10.25Package building tools for Debian ii libapt-pkg-perl 0.1.13 Perl interface to libapt-pkg ii perl 5.8.4-5Larry Wall's Practical Extraction -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#290441: laptop-mode-tools: fails to restart acpid after installing or removing files from /etc/acpi/events
Package: laptop-mode-tools Version: 1.04-1.1 Severity: normal During installation the files lm_ac_adapter, lm_battery and lm_lid are written to /etc/acpi/events and laptop-mode is started. Unfortunately these files are never parsed as it appears the acpid daemon caches the known files in /etc/acpi/events when started. Only by restarting acpid will the files be parsed as expected. When laptop-mode-tools is purged a similar problem occurs: acpid still thinks the lm_* files are in /etc/acpi/events and tries to call scripts in /etc/acpi/actions which no longer exist, resulting in error messages in /var/log/acpid. A solution would be to restart acpid (if appropriate) in the postinst and postrm scripts. Thanks for a great package. I hope this helps. You can check for the availability of these types with autoconf. If you compile on a system that doesn't define them (I think you have to look very hard for those), then you can always typedef them yourself as a last resort. Bug#290438: produces wrong code on i386 compiling with -fno-automatic -O1
Package: g77-3.3 Version: 1:3.3.5-6 Severity: normal Hi, I have tracked down a bug report I was sent about libmathlib1 to a compiler optimization problem in g77 on i386. Please see the attached file for a test case. (Gunzip and un-tar it, cd into the resulting directory, and run "make" on a system with g77, make, libmathlib1-dev, libpacklib1-dev, and libkernlib1-dev packages installed.) The test case calculates the value of the triple integral of (sin(x)*sin(y)*sin(z))^2 with all three limits going from 1.d-8 to pi, whose value is equal to a tiny amount less than (pi^3)/8. (The setup is done in test.f and the main work in radmul.f, which comes from Cernlib source code.) The program prints out the numerical value of the integral, percent estimated error, number of iterations, and returned error flag. When the file radmul.f is compiled with g77 -O0 -fno-automatic flags, or just with -O1 flag, the following correct output is produced: calling dadmul I= 3.87578459+- 7.11202394E-12% 495 evals error0 When the flags -fno-automatic -O1 (or higher) are given, the output is quite wrong: calling dadmul I= 42336.3332+- 2.45015127% 99 evals error1 If lines 10 and 11 of test.f are changed to set A(1) and A(2) [the lower bounds of integration] to 0.d0 instead of 1.d-8, the output with -fno-automatic -O1 is no longer outrageously large, but it still has a lot of error: calling dadmul I= 3.87588078+- 0.000990792397% 18315 evals error0 The above behavior is that of g77-3.3 and g77-2.95. g77-3.4 does even worse. It produces the same result as g77-3.3 for the -fno-automatic -O1 case. Furthermore, when g77-3.4 is called with only -O1 (no -fno-automatic flag), the resulting program segfaults. (Run the attached testcase with "make F77=g77-3.4" to see.) For the three arches I've tested, these problems occur only on i386, not on powerpc nor on sparc. You may wish to clone this report to g77-3.4 and g77-2.95. I owe thanks to Eduardo A. Menendez Proupin for finding this bug, tracking down which Cernlib source code file it came from, and composing the test case. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.4.27-1-k7 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages g77-3.3 depends on: ii gcc-3.3 1:3.3.5-6The GNU C compiler ii gcc-3.3-base1:3.3.5-6The GNU Compiler Collection (base ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-20 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libg2c0-dev 1:3.3.5-6GNU Fortran 77 library development -- no debconf information regards, -- Kevin B. Bug#290437: can't boot with a read-only rootfs
Package: udev Version: 0.050-4 Severity: wishlist If the boot parameters is like: kernel (hd0,0)/boot/bzImage-now root=/dev/hdd1 ro the boot process will halt with an error message: Mounting a tmpfs over /dev...rm: cannot remove '/dev/test-file' The solution is simple: change the boot parameter to "rw". It's a very simple problem, but can make some headaches. Please include information in /usr/share/doc/udev/README.Debian.gz about this. -- Package-specific info: -- /etc/udev/rules.d/: /etc/udev/rules.d/: Ãsszesen 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 2005-01-06 01:19 cd-aliases.rules -> ../cd-aliases.rules lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 2005-01-06 01:19 udev.rules -> ../udev.rules -- /sys/: /sys/block/fd0/dev /sys/block/hda/dev /sys/block/hdb/dev /sys/block/hdc/dev /sys/block/hdc/hdc1/dev /sys/block/hdc/hdc2/dev /sys/block/hdc/hdc5/dev /sys/block/hdc/hdc6/dev /sys/block/hdd/dev /sys/block/hdd/hdd1/dev /sys/block/hdd/hdd2/dev /sys/block/hdd/hdd5/dev /sys/block/loop0/dev /sys/block/loop1/dev /sys/block/loop2/dev /sys/block/loop3/dev /sys/block/loop4/dev /sys/block/loop5/dev /sys/block/loop6/dev /sys/block/loop7/dev /sys/class/i2c-dev/i2c-0/dev /sys/class/input/mice/dev /sys/class/input/mouse0/dev /sys/class/misc/microcode/dev /sys/class/misc/psaux/dev /sys/class/misc/rtc/dev /sys/class/misc/watchdog/dev /sys/class/ppp/ppp/dev /sys/class/sound/admmidi/dev /sys/class/sound/adsp/dev /sys/class/sound/amidi/dev /sys/class/sound/audio/dev /sys/class/sound/controlC0/dev /sys/class/sound/dmmidi/dev /sys/class/sound/dsp/dev /sys/class/sound/hwC0D0/dev /sys/class/sound/hwC0D2/dev /sys/class/sound/midiC0D0/dev /sys/class/sound/midiC0D1/dev /sys/class/sound/midiC0D2/dev /sys/class/sound/midiC0D3/dev /sys/class/sound/midi/dev /sys/class/sound/mixer/dev /sys/class/sound/pcmC0D0c/dev /sys/class/sound/pcmC0D0p/dev /sys/class/sound/pcmC0D1c/dev /sys/class/sound/pcmC0D2c/dev /sys/class/sound/pcmC0D2p/dev /sys/class/sound/seq/dev /sys/class/sound/sequencer2/dev /sys/class/sound/sequencer/dev /sys/class/sound/timer/dev -- Kernel configuration: isapnp_init not present. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.10-pear3 Locale: LANG=hu_HU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=hu_HU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages udev depends on: ii hotplug 0.0.20040329-16 Linux Hotplug Scripts ii initscripts 2.86.ds1-1 Standard scripts needed for bootin ii libc62.3.2.ds1-20GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii makedev 2.3.1-75Creates device files in /dev ii sed 4.1.2-8 The GNU sed stream editor -- no debconf information

I've found two pages that directly discuss string syntax within tags. Both say that a line break is not allowed within a string literal. http://academ.hvcc.edu/~kantopet/javascript/index.php?page=js+syntax&parent=core+javascript "You also cannot have line-breaks inside text strings literals. If you need to run a text string across multiple lines, you should break the string into multiple tokens and use a concatenation operator to string it together." http://www.netmechanic.com/news/vol4/javascript_no23.htm "...JavaScript interprets the line breaks to mean that you're trying to close the string improperly." Besides these, there are a lot of conversations on comp.lang.javascript helping newbies debug exactly this problem (often errors about an unterminated string literal). I also found Douglas Crockford's online Javascript validator: http://www.crockford.com/javascript/jslint.html Even with the "strict line ending" option unchecked, the validator does not allow line breaks within literals. I tend to think that your implementation is correct, and I don't think you'd want to support obviously invalid syntax unless MSIE and/or Firefox do (and maybe not even then). I have pretty much zero experience with Javascript. However, I worked up this minimal sample page:Test Javascript Page
