I tried on a virgin profile, with locale C, and everything went fine.
Could you try with and without the "iso-codes" package? Could you try
moving your profile out of the way? Does it change anything?

Can you send us the file /var/lib/texmf/web2c/latex.log? Furthermore,
there is probably a file in /tmp/ (or in TMPDIR if you have set this
variable) with the name "tetex.postinst.XXX" with the Xs replaced by
random characters and digits. Please also send this file.

Except for the texmf-dist stuff, it is generic, and also applies to
tetex-2.0.2. I have currently no idea how to fix this, because the
documentation is included pre-built in the upstream tarball.

The author of letterspacing.sty is notoriously reluctant to add a
DFSG-free license statement to his files, thus allowing distribution by
Debian (and TeX-live etc.). If you are using LaTeX, you can use
soul.sty instead; I don't know if there is a solution for plain TeX.

Please try to "dpkg-reconfigure gstreamer0.8-swfdec" as root, or run

 newer version.

If it does, please get a backtrace as explained at:

It should indeed. http://packages.debian.org/zoo says it's in main, so does
apt-cache policy zoo. The debian/control file should be ok. I wonder what is
wrong.

This is not a release-critical bug for sarge (and least of all meets the
criteria for severity: critical). It is a bug for a package to not respect
DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive, but not a release blocker.

Bug#285186: More input about this FTBFS bug and the consequences for other packages

2005-03-30 Thread Christian Perrier
I'd like to add a few input lines about this RC bug for wxwindows2.5.

I also have a package (poedit) being held out of testing because of
this RC bug in wxwindows2.5

However, when I decided to build it agains 2.5 and not 2.4, I first
considered that the version of poedit I have in testing is suitable
for release...and the extra features added by wxwindows 2.5 are not
release critical (indeed, building with 2.5 fixes a few longstanding
bugs in poedit, none of them being RC).

So, even if I would rather prefer seeing 2.5 enter testing, I
understand Ron's reasons and I support his plans.

If some other packages have important releases being held out of
testing because of requiring 2.5, they really should consider a fork
and build a version targeted at sarge, which can be built with 2.4.

Bug#302305: php4-sqlite: more proper check for restarting servers in postinst

2005-03-30 Thread Janos Holanyi
Package: php4-sqlite
Version: 1.0.2-6
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

Hello,

Originally, php4-sqlite postinst gives false alarms which could be avoided:

/usr/sbin/apachectl is not executable, exiting
Restarting apache-ssl.

The postinst script checks for executability of files in /etc/init.d/ but
packages leave their files in there on package removal so it would be more
proper to also check running instances before checking files in /etc/init.d
to focus only on running servers to restart.

Here's the patch, please apply:

In which case, this bug should be reassigned to ftp.debian.org to request
removal of the broken hppa binaries.

Perhaps it's only because I'm using inetd instead of xinetd, but my

Yes, I did fail to upgrade to the -6.1 NMU, and have failed to upgrade

Well, I *do not* confirm this.

Window 1:

Going back to "tintin" shell in window 1:

Thanks; it's good to know that these are the only two dependencies.

Unfortunately, it's not good enough to install "gcc-xml" manually: a
debian package is required to be buildable using only tools also
available in the debian archive. Thus a gcc-xml Debian package
(c.f. http://bugs.debian.org/189927) is definitely a prerequisite to
packaging pyste.

Given that Tomasz has acked this bug report and everyone agrees this
is an issue which must be discussed with upstream (even if this ends
up in a specific Debian patch later), I hereby tag the bug
appropriately, at least temporarily.

We certainly need to bring consistency here. There has been a recent
discussion about adduser behaviour inside Debian and the adduser
maintenance team has setup its guidelines, afaik.

So, I propose that Tomasz first gives us indications about his
choices, with his upstream hat on (taking other OS behaviour into
account)...and then we will decide whether we need adapt the Debian
implementation if useradd happens to be less strict than adduser on
that matter.

This is a problem only on IA64, and only breaks mke2fs, and not the
other e2fsprogs programs. The problem seems to be the malloc() goes
wonky if we don't include stdlib.h. The following patch fixes the

ok, I played around a bit. With GTK2 apps, it works like you said. My
font is picked in favour of others, because it contains more
characters. At least this is true in gucharmap.

For qt apps however, this does not work, but I suppose that's a bug in
qt then. Qt picks only one font (Japanese one in my case) and does not
replace glyphs which are not in that font... I can only get my fonts to
be preferred if I set the explicit order in local.conf (I used my old
one from fontconfig 2.2). But also here, missing glyphs are not
replaced by other fonts.
It seems this function does only work in qt, if you use the qt config
tool and set the replacement fonts manually for qt apps. It seems that
qt ignores fontconfig on this matter.

Any suggestion how to proceed?

Cheers
Arne

via gdm anymore. Attempting to log in as root (which is in /etc/passwd)
produces the following:

  debian login: root
  Password:
  login: pthread_mutex_lock.c:78: __pthread_mutex_lock: Assertion
`mutex->__data.__owner == 0' failed.

Normal users (which are all stored in ldap) are able to log on the console
without any problems. It was then possible to "su" to root from a normal user.

Downgrading to libnss-ldap 220-1 allowed root to log in on the console and
users to log in via gdm.

Please try with the "Debian Mozilla browser", in package
"mozilla-browser", the source code of firefox is not the same.

I see you're using a GRSEC kernel, please try with a non-grsec kernel.

If it doesn't crash with Mozilla, and still crashes without grsec,
please report a backtrace as explained at:

Don't kill yourself, unless you want to :)

I suspect that we are triggering some wierdness in the qt libraries, or
(possibly) some inter-library dependency bug like qt => libfoo1, but kde
=> libfoo2 . I have not actually found evidence of this, you
understand, but this is my gut feeling for why it can be so totally
unreproducible for me but consistent for you.

Thanks again for your help so far,

Yes, clearly I'm aware of the bug and the discussion... otherwise I'd
be rather hard pressed to have Cc:'ed it.

1) What is the current status? [295774-6 have all been closed.]

2) When do you expect to clone this bug and reassign to ftp-master to
request removal?

Bug#284996: Debian Installer fails partitioning

2005-03-30 Thread Steve Kleiser

Hello again,

I tried Installing Knoppix 3.7 by booting
from the CD into text-only mode, and with a couple of boot parameters (knoppix
vga=normal 2) it worked. This is encouraging, since Knoppix is based on Debian
(Sarge?). I really wanted Debian Sarge though. After going back to the my Sarge
CD, and unsuccessfully trying some boot parameters, I found a couple of
references to bug reports relating to DMA that couldn't be turned off, and took
a quick look at dmesg using "dmesg | grep hda". Sure enough, DMA appears to be
active despite booting via "linux ide=nodma", or just
"linux nodma".

The laptop is un-networked since my HPNA via
a Netgear PA101 is not yet supported. Would it be feasible to install Knoppix,
then "upgrade" to Sarge via the testing CD?

  TIA,

Steve K.

Bug#302295: python should use the alternatives mechanism

2005-03-30 Thread Ralph Giles
Package: python
Version: 2.3.5-1

Debian provides parallel installable versions of python as, e.g. python
(which depends on python2.3) and python2.4. However, the default
/usr/bin/python executable is a symlink to python2.3 owned (I think?) by
the python package itself.

Thus, the only way to change which version the 'python' command invokes
is to edit a symlink owned by an installed package. Surely it would be
better to use the 'alternatives' mechanism like other parallel-
installable packages so this can be a user choice?

Fullscreen mode is treated as a seperate window by gqview, so the alt-f4
(which is handled by your window manager), simply closes the fullscreen window,
leaving the original gqview window. You can then press alt-F4 to close that as
well, but again, that's all happening with your window manager, not gqview.

Do you think this needs an extra note in the documentation?

Bug#302294: dpkg-www: Doesn't handle plus(+) signs in fileFilter

2005-03-30 Thread Kapil Hari Paranjape
Package: dpkg-www
Version: 2.45
Severity: normal

Hello,

The listing of package owned files does not correctly
generate hyper-links for 'man', 'doc' and other files if
these filenames have a plus(+) sign in their name.

I believe the error is in the subroutine fileFilter where lines
of the type
gsub("\\+", "+", r);
should actually be
gsub("\\+", "\\+", r);

This fix may be wrong as I am not sure exactly what "r" and "s" are
doing! However, it seems to work for me.

Thanks and regards,

Kapil.

Damnit. That will certainly make it harder to track down. Does ldd
output look different between gentoo and debian?

Can you try copying libraries (make backups first!) from the gentoo box
to the debian one until it no longer segfaults, and then we can figure
out which is problematic. Assuming, of course, that you're willing to
go that much effort :)

thanks

Hi Manoj,

I don't actually see anything in current policy that mandates the
reading that configuration files are "any file that someone may wish to
edit". This is generally good sense, but there may be other factors
(such as the cost of debugging a transition path for the file, and the
impending freeze); so I don't really think this is release-critical, and
I also don't think it's a policy violation, strictly speaking.

Bug#296588: This is possible

It turns out, you can actually do this, you just need to add
$page->get('sidebar') to the template. so if you created a property
for the page called "sidebar", you could then create a template to
insert it. The properties have to be editted by hand, unfortunately
there isn't an interface (yet) for editing the properties.

Because documentaion is mostly compressed, links to their uncompressed
counterparts cannot be followed by xdvi or xpdf. For example:
texdoc TETEXDOC.dvi.gz
and try some links to files within the document.
The same with TETEXDOC.pdf.gz

Note also that the path for documents conatins "texmf-dist" which is
not in debian.

I am not sure the problem is generic or applys to only a few files.

Bug#281731: manpage: "proto ip6" - Multiple discrepancies in ipv6 docs

2005-03-30 Thread Guy Harris
If you want to capture IPv6 packets to and from TCP or UDP port 179,
but *not* IPv4 packets to or from those ports, the correct expression is

ip6 and port 179
"proto XXX" as a filter expression means "look up XXX with
getprotobyname() and, if that fails, try to interpret it as a number;
if either of those succeed, match IPv4 or IPv6 packets where the IPv4
protocol number or the protocol number in the first IPv6 header have
the resulting value". "proto ipv6", with an "/etc/protocols" file
that matches "ipv6" to 41, matches IPv6-inside-IPv4 and IPv6-inside-
IPv6 tunneled protocols. Unfortunately, "port N" only matches UDP or
TCP port N in IP without any tunneling, so "proto ipv6" and "port
179" can't both match a packet.

Start evmsgui. With some free space available in a region, right-click on
another region, and
select "Move mapping...". The GUI hangs, unresponsive, for a while. At first
I thought this
was a permanent hang, but then I found that it just lasts for a while, say 5 to
30 seconds,
depending on the sizes of the source and target regions.

Other dialogs for specifying options to Move mapping also take several seconds
to refresh after
I change an option. evmsn, by contrast, has no delay at all when executing a
Move mapping
command.

Bug#282386: mozilla-thunderbird: fails to start

2005-03-30 Thread Michael Spang
I haven't had any problems since the first time.
In the testing which I just did, I noticed no problems until I started
Thunderbird during a downgrade. This created a rogue process which kept
either version of Thunderbird from starting. I was able to reproduce
this several times. It happened if I attempted to start it while dpkg
was upgrading as well. I am not sure how this is related but it is a
similar issue. There still seems to be a possibility of leaving dead
processes around under various uncommon circumstances. It is indeed
quite possible that the bug which caused it to leave such a process
around in my first case has been fixed.

here? Incompatibilities?

Still, a good idea. Commited to CVS and errata page -- will

No, just to stop building that specific binary package from the
xprint-xprintorg source package, by dropping it from debian/control and
debian/rules where appropriately.

Do you mean you want me to make no further uploads to unstable until the
version in unstable has propagated down to testing?

(I have one more important upload to make right now, but I can wait
after that).

I still don't understand then. Other packages depend on xprt-xprintorg.
I can't remove it until they have updated their dependencies.

It's only a dummy package now that depends on the new xprint binary
package. Why is it causing problems?

Tha changes of drb/drb.rb is for security.
So I think that we should use current drb/drb.rb.

Bug#301516: maxima grouches at Ctrl-D

2005-03-30 Thread Camm Maguire
Greetings, and thanks for your report! This bug is specific to GCL in
readline mode. An immediate workaround is to turn readline off, for
example, via :lisp (si::readline-off) in maxima. A fix has been
posted to the 2.6.6 errata page found at
http://www.gnu.org/software/gcl. It will take some considerable time
to rebuild GCL, maxima, acl2, and axiom on all Debian machines, so I
will delay this pending any more serious issues that may arise in the
future.

Take care,

Bug#281804: retitle and merge sim breakage with kdenetwork/kopete

2005-03-30 Thread browaeys . alban
retitle 281804 Sim doesn't install - conflict with kopete
merge 281804 271685
quit

kopete is a dependency of the kde desktop (via kdenetwork).

This conflict means that sim cannot be installed anymore for kde
users ...

I have seen more and more of those mime dekstop file conflict and
i am really wondering why such files are managed this way. Though
i don't think the previous mime garbage that better, desktop
files just revealed the mess ...

Thankfully this won't be a problem for sarge as those things will
be frozen , but it will be mess for unstable users and next
release :(

Greetings
Alban

PS: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=271685 is
broken ... i never saw that before, do you have a copy of the
email, maybe it revealed a bug in the BTS (or we have a disk
problem).
Well thankfully there is this second report.

PS2: i have not changed the severity believeing it is up to the
maintainer though those looks like RC bugs (we don't want such
breakage to prevent kde 3.3.2 to enter testing before the freeze ).

Would you like to raise the mime issue on debian-devel ? gaim,
gnomeicu , etc ought to/will probably soon ship this mime file too !

He emailed me separately. It's a known bug, which I'd already fixed.
I'm trying to get a 3.01 release out the door RSN, which will take care
of a lot of these little things.

Hmm, I'm using dh_installlogcheck to install them. I would have
thought that would set permissions appropriately. I guess a bug report
is in order, since this will affect many packages. The patch is simple
(one line), so I won't bother with it here. Do you want to file it or
should I?

Hi !
The impressive sampling box Jackbeat has been updated to version 0.4.2.
You can find the associated debian packages here:
http://yomix.org/debian/
Or add these entries in your /etc/apt/sources-list file:
deb http://yomix.org/debian/ binary/
deb-src http://yomix.org/debian/ source/
to dispose also of the following packages:
ctorrent, ezstream, qoscc
Many thanks to Olivier Guilyardi, Matijs van Zuijlen and Piem

Changelog :
* Support for sample rate conversion when loading samples, to match
Jack's framerate : added, using libsamplerate's best converter
* Progress bars when loading/saving samples/sequences : added, in a modal
  window
* Some variables names in sample loading routines were obscure : clarified
* Unused samples were not cleant up : fixed, now freeing associated memory
* With Jack already rolling, lauching Jackbeat produced some noise : fixed
* Muting/unmuting a track often failed due to an IPC bug : squashed

Then the bug should probably be filed against the kernel, not the autofs
userspace daemon. I'd reassign to a kernel package, but as there is no
2.6.10-6 or 2.6.11-1 in the archive, that's a bit hard. :-)

In any case, I fail to see the justification for RC here; it does not really
"break unrelated software", as hardly any software is unrelated to the
kernel.

Are you saying the server locks up here, or the client? If the server locks
up here, the bug is most definitely not in autofs, it is in whatever you're
using to export your filesystems.

Bug#302285: zoph reports mysql_pconnect error on first logon

2005-03-30 Thread bill luecke
Package: zoph
Version: 0.3.3-11
Severity: important

On the first installation of zoph, after creating the databases as
defined in the file /usr/share/doc/zoph$/README.Debian and attempting
to logon as admin

zoph returns something like "undefined function mysql_pconnect" after
hitting the logon button. (sorry, I fixed the problem so i can't
recreate it.)

A quick googling lead me to the suggestion that uncommenting
the line

extension=mysql.so

in

/etc/php4/apache/php.ini

would solve the problem.

It did, and i'm up and running now, but this seems like a problem to
me.

thanks!

bill

Bug#302284: mysql-server: gawk dependency unneeded

2005-03-30 Thread Zoran Dzelajlija
Package: mysql-server
Version: 4.0.24-2
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi, re #291634 resolution, gawk dependency can be avoided
if tail -1 is used instead of END { } effects, by replacing

LC_ALL=C df --portability $DATADIR/. | gawk 'END { exit ($4>1000) }'

with

LC_ALL=C df --portability $DATADIR/. | tail -1 | awk '{ exit ($4>1000) }'

or at least using mawk (Priority: required) instead of gawk (optional),
which also works.

Regards,
Zoran

the same problem with P IV 3GHz.

of course I can use repair script except of default action but it is still
not correct to get spontanous reports about not existent problems on a machine.

I am using softdog kernel module but it should not interfere with
watchdog other options.

Good point. I'll see about putting it in CVS and sid, hopefully we
can get it into sarge but no guarantees.

Bug#302261: O: gnome-think -- Hierarchical organizer and outliner

2005-03-30 Thread Jeroen van Wolffelaar
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

The current maintainer of gnome-think, Peter Teichman <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>,
has orphaned this package. If you want to be the new maintainer, please
take it -- see http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/index.html#howto-o for
detailed instructions how to adopt a package properly.

Note that the Debia maintainer is also upstream, and has no time for upstream
maintainance either. If nobody wants to take over also upstream, it can
probably better just be removed from the archive.

Bug#302238: b132l boots! (with fix)

2005-03-30 Thread Scott Edwards
You'll need to interact with the bootloader from the boot.admin> console. I
set the ramdisk to 51200 and it all appears to be working. I'll resubmit a
install report after I'm done.

[ insert fanfare+a happy dance here ]

Thanks,

Bug#302259: Manpage for -L option not clear where capture output ends up

2005-03-30 Thread Christian Hudon
Package: isakmpd
Version: 20041012-1
Severity: minor
The description for the -L option in the manpage does not make it clear
where the capture output is send:

-L Enable IKE packet capture. When this option is given, isakmpd
will capture to file an unencrypted copy of the negotiation
pack-
ets it is sending and receiving. This file can later be
read by
tcpdump(8) and other utilities using pcap(3).

It says "capture to file", but to which file? Is it send to standard
out/err? Or to a hardcoded file location? Some clarification (including
the name of the hardcoded file, if there is one) would be nice.

 Christian

Bug#302258: All users unable to authenticate or logon to the system via netatalk

2005-03-30 Thread Johan Raubal
Package: netatalk
Version: 2.0.2-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Having initially beeing runing the stand-alone package of the v2.0
version of netatalk. in the last week it appeared in dist-upgrade.
Now, before upgrade the package was working flawlessly, since upgrade,
it will not authenticate any users! I have tried removeing the
package, removing all config files, runing a absolutly default config
(did not touch files in /etc/pam.d - but it looked ok) and still did
not work. No user can logon. OS X 10.3.x reports that the username
or password is incorrect, but never presents the user with a login
window. What does work is, that if I change to use *only*
uams_guest.so, some access can be achived. I have found no way
around this, looked very carefully at config, but no joy. uams_dhx.so
is also missing from the package, not sure that this is relevant or
not. There are no stored usermames or passwords in OS X that could be
interfering, multiple clients have the same issue - temporary
 workaround with Samba in place...

Thanks!

Now that you mention... :)

A prospective maintainer asked me to review the dssi packages for
Debian, but I am in the middle of a work crunch, and that thing keeps
being delayed...

I can forward you an email about that. Maybe you can take a look to it,
and see if there is any obvious problem when building rosegarden4 with
dssi support using those packages.

Let me know if you think you may be interested in helping with
this. It may be useful for AGNULA. Hopefully I will also find some
time in the next few weeks...

Thanks,

  Enrique.

Well, the main problem I see is how can this be made without the need
of stopping asterisk and restarting it again, as it is an sqlite file
instead of a usual plain file.

We will have the same problem with cdr_mysql, if ever packaged.

Yes, the documenting part could be improved.
