Bug#256732: [Pkg-shadow-devel] Bug#256732: Bug report confirmed and ACK'ed

2005-04-27 Thread Christian Perrier
Some regexps there are extended, contrary to what Karl
stated in his comment. And, by the way, I think that
 having:
  # Assume there is a root password if NIS is being used.
  if egrep -q '^+:' /etc/passwd; then
is a plain bug, because intent of that code is to match

Sure, this is a plain bug, definitely.

literal +: at the beginning of line (AFAIK), but the
+ symbol is treated as metacharacter in extended regexp
 context.
 That's why egrep -q '^[+]:' or grep -q '^+:' _must_
 be used here instead.

IMHO we need to examine the scripts affected (and the
 patch) more thoroughly...

BTW, the patch already contains the changes I proposed
 to remove-shell/add-shell scripts (namely the
 #!/bin/bash -e -- #!/bin/sh -e move).

Yep, when looking at that patch, I remembered this. Maybe merge the
two bugs together?

Do you take that bug, Alex? If so, don't forget thet patch I sent for
#245332, which impacts passwd.config.

The passwd.config thing is not easy to test because most of it is only
used at install time. You have to hack it down a little to make it
testable on a live system.

PS : while I am at it, feel free to object to me nicknaming you
guys. I now see that I began writing Alex or Nico for Alexander
and Nicolas respectively. This is just a kind of automatism, which
saves me a few hits but I don't want to hurt you in any way. A lot of
French Nicolas are often nicknamed Nico but, well, Nicolas maybe
dislikes thissame for you, Alexander, even if I indeed don't know
whether Ukrainian Alexanders are usually nicknamed Alex...:-)

Martin, I have no nickname for you...:)

Bug#306516: Should use CD-ROM instead of CDROM in templates

2005-04-27 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: cdrom-retriever
Severity: minor
Tags: d-i

Quoting Eddy Petrisor ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):
 Hello all,

While I was trying to reduce the number of unknown words with zinosat's
scripts I found that the original files contained inconsistent ways of
 writing words:

 CD-ROM/CDROM :

 $ cat ro.po | perl -s ../../scripts/l10n/l10n-spellcheck/extract_msg.pl
 -msgid | grep -E CD.?ROM | wc -l
 46
 $ cat ro.po | perl -s ../../scripts/l10n/l10n-spellcheck/extract_msg.pl
 -msgid | grep -E CD-ROM | wc -l
 43
 $ cat ro.po | perl -s ../../scripts/l10n/l10n-spellcheck/extract_msg.pl
 -msgid | grep -E CDROM | wc -l
 4

Well spotted...

Indeed, 3 of the 4 occurrences of CDROM are in cdrom-retriever, the
latter being a variable name in cdrom-checker, thus irrelevant.

This is obviously a consistency bug, hence reporting it to
cdrom-retriever (this mail is BCC'ed to the BTS).

I will fix it but will probably NOT unfuzzy translations as this will
force translators to check consistency in their own translations.

This is a good occasion for me to have fr alone at 100% for some time
as you all know this is my only goal in that business..:)

In D-I, CD-ROM is used only for the media. Drive or CD-ROM drive
should be used when talking about the hardware.

Before filing a bug against the XFree86 X server, please note the
following:

1) The problem you are experiencing may be a known issue that is discussed
in the Debian X FAQ. If you are unfamiliar with this document, please
consult it before filing your report.
   XHTML version: file:///usr/share/doc/xfree86-common/FAQ.xhtml
  plain text version: file:///usr/share/doc/xfree86-common/FAQ.gz

2) Please be cautious with your bug severities. Most bugs in the XFree86 X
server are specific to particular drivers, and often manifest only on
particular models of display adapter. This means that while the X server
may be unusable for you, it typically is not for the majority of users.
Therefore, bug severities of critical or grave are seldom appropriate.

In general, if the X server crashes, hangs, or locks up your system, the
bug should be assigned a severity of important. If you are in doubt
about what severity to use, choose normal. The Debian package
maintainers will upgrade reports if they have severities that are too low
-- you need not fear that your report will be ignored because it was filed
with a lower severity than was appropriate.

3) Problems with the keyboard are almost always due to bugs in the XKB (X
Keyboard Extension) data files. Reports about such issues should be filed
against the xlibs package, not xserver-xfree86.

4) Problems with 3D acceleration or DRI (Direct Rendering Infrastructure)
are usually problems with the Mesa GL library, the Mesa DRI modules, or
with the Linux kernel's direct rendering manager (DRM). Bugs in these
systems can even lock up the computer. Here's a table to help you choose
which package is the most appropriate for your report:

Hi,
I am trying to install GNU/Linux rc3 on an Amiga. I installation starts

putting every file in one partition.

The hd is a SCSI Quantum Fireball ST6.4S. d-i display a free space from

 88.0 MBswap dhx swap
  5.0 MBFREE SPACE

The partition table was created by the installer.
When I proceed I get those errors:

Bug#306521: knetload(GNU/k*BSD): FTBFS: out of date config.sub/config.guess

2005-04-27 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Package: knetload
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

The current version of knetload fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD,
because of outdated config.guess and config.sub.

The versions of config.guess and config.sub in knetload are too
old to correctly support Debian GNU/k*BSD. A version is needed
from this year, which is available in the autotools-dev packages
that are in current sarge, and sid.

You can simply copy them manually, but it can also be done
automatically using the method described in
/usr/share/doc/autotools-dev/README.Debian.gz

It would also be nice if you cans ask upstream to update
config.guess and config.sub in their next release.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Which looks as if it was a swap file as generated by vim. Hmm, could
happen to other people. Steve, do you have any idea how to remove hidden
files as well? Currently we do mv /var/lib/ldap/* /var/backups/...
Wasn't there a feature in glob expansion which would also match hidden
files?

This does add working UTF-8 support but it also results in several
serious regressions:
  1. the xfont directives are being silently ignored and some
other font is being substituted instead
  2. the quality of the font rendering is much worse
  3. wrapping of multi-line paragraphs is broken
 (a) centered paragraphs get left justified
 (b) paragraphs spliced together with the %cont directive don't
wrap all the way to the left margin, but only to the location
 of the %cont directive

I'm attaching a sample test.mgp which illustrates these issues.

My guess is that the m17n is somehow disabling the xft2 engine and that
xft2 and m17n are probably incompatible until something is fixed upstream.

Bug#306508: cdrecord: Broken again with kernel 2.6.10

2005-04-27 Thread Eduard Bloch
#include hallo.h
* Stephen Gran [Tue, Apr 26 2005, 09:59:45PM]:

Sorry, I see many nearly related bugs but I do not see this one in
particular. If I have missed one that adresses the same issue, please
feel free to close or merge this one as you see fit.

The issue is that while running 2.6.10, cdrecord -prcap fails with

cdrecord: Cannot allocate memory. SG I/O error

This is with an ATAPI drive, and an /etc/default/cdrecord with
 CDR_DEVICE=ATA:1,0,0
(for /dev/hdc - I believe this is right, and earlier kernels don't
 complain)

Believe it or not, better use -scanbus dev=ATA:

So burning a disk also fails, although of course it works as root.
I am of course in group cdrom and have been for some time. The
permissions on all the cdrecord* executables are correct.

What does that mean? Is it suid-root?

This is similar to what is mentioned at the tail end of README.Debian,
but not the same, so I am not sure it is the same problem. On the
off-chance it was, I tried to rebuild cdrecord, as the advice said,
and it happily failed on patch 17 :(

What does that mean? Exact error message sounds says ...?

The very strange thing about all of this is that run under strace to

Where is the strace log? Store it somewhere online (on gluck or alioth,
for example), otherwise we can only guess.

debug it, it happily runs just fine - does strace intercept a bad
syscall and translate it? That seems like odd behavior for strace if
 so.

Huch, different behaviour with strace is a possible sign for NOT having
the right permissions (suid).

If you need any help debugging, or more information, please let me know,
and I'll dig up what I can. FWIW, it works just fine on 2.6.8. Both
 kernels involved are Debian kernels.

Regards,
Eduard.

Bug#306435: Minor update to script

2005-04-27 Thread Adam Clarke
This prevents errors if there happens to be subdirectories
find /var/lib/ldap/* -mindepth 1 -maxdepth 1 -exec mv \{\}
/var/backups/ldap-backup-dir \;

Notice the maxdepth (in addition to mindepth). Otherwise things that
have already been moved are referenced causing find to barf (if there
are subdirs).

I have attached a test script - it will create a directory test-move and
some test dirs/files therein. It then uses the test data to see if the
above works.

Cheers

Bug#306526: vserver-debiantools: newvserver deprecated

2005-04-27 Thread Daniel van Eeden
Package: vserver-debiantools
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

The newvserver command is deprecated. The new command is:
vserver vstest build -m debootstrap -- -d sarge

The -- -d sarge part is needed, otherwise it tries to install the deb31
release which doesn't exist.

The newvserver command fails to install if grsecurity, pax and vserver
patches are applied. The build command does work with the right sysctl
settings.

Maybe something for the docs:
These sysctl settings are needed to setup a new vserver on a grsecurity enabled

Bug#306531: util-vserver: debootstrap issue and usage info

2005-04-27 Thread Daniel van Eeden
Package: util-vserver
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

The usage info doesn't contain the build option and should require a
vserver name.

a debootstap called with deb31 won't work. Both Testing (sarge) and
Unstable (sid) got 3.1 in /etc/debian_version.

The only way I know to get output suitable for debootstrap is:
debconf-get-selections 2 /dev/null | grep ^base-config | grep
mirror/suite | awk '{ print $4 }'

An other option is to parse /etc/apt/sources.list but that won't be
reliable.

Bug#306531: util-vserver: debootstrap issue and usage info

The usage info doesn't contain the build option and should require a
 vserver name.

Ok, will be fixed.

a debootstap called with deb31 won't work. Both Testing (sarge) and
Unstable (sid) got 3.1 in /etc/debian_version.

I have built a vserver (used newvserver that call vserver ... build),
and it worked fine. Is this a very special case?

The only way I know to get output suitable for debootstrap is:
 debconf-get-selections 2 /dev/null | grep ^base-config | grep
 mirror/suite | awk '{ print $4 }'

Is this reliable? How about upgraded versions of Debian?

An other option is to parse /etc/apt/sources.list but that won't be
 reliable.

Agree.

Bug#306537: Firefox unexpectedly disappears without prompting

2005-04-27 Thread inkwire
Package: mozilla-firefox
Version: 1.0.2-3
Severity: important
Debian flavour: testing

Firefox unexpectedly closes down without any prompting. Its been doing
this for months, initially I'd leave it open overnight with perhaps
between 15 and 40 tabs open, spread throughout a couple of windows and
some mornings I'd return to it and Firefox would have disappeared. I
haven't seen that in a while but recently I'll be doing something in
another application and Firefox just disappears in a similar way.
I _think_ but I can't be at all conclusive about this, that it might only
do this when I'm using Synaptic. thats the feeling I have but I've not
been able to pay close enough attention to it to really know.
This happens about maybe once a week. The computer stays on almost
constantly, with an occasional reboot to clean it up when Firefox has been
open a long time with a lot of tabs as it makes the system dead slow.

This is a stock Debian Testing copy of Firefox, no extensions/themes
installed.

2005-04-27 Thread Benedek Frank

Hi

I tried to Install WMlongrun and dock it in KDE`s dockbar. I have a
Toshiba Libretto L1 laptop, and I cannot make it work. I installed it by
apt-get as well as built it myself, but still an error occures every
time I load it, and of course it wont load. My kernel version is 2.6.11.
When I type #wmlongrun it fails back to console and prints the
following message:

read: Invalid argument

That is all I see. No error shows up anywhere else, messages or syslog,
nowhere.

Thanks

Hello, I'm using vim in gnome-terminal under gnome 2.8.

When I `cd' into some directory tree, whose names are chinese ones and
are
encoded in UTF-8, and open some file with VIM, everything is OK. Then,
when I
exit from VIM, the console would in a mass, that is, the prompting
information
would change from something like `user@path' to something
uncognizable,
although the locale has been changed in VIM session.

Moreover, I have tried `vim -u NONE -U NONE' and got the same result.

Bug#306538: vimpart: missing dependency on vim-full

vimpart misses a dependency on vim-full. For example when installing
vimpart, it wants vim-gnome even though it should also work with
vim-full. Since vim-gnome is mutually exclusive with vim-full, one

Bug#269152: reduce the bug sevirity

2005-04-27 Thread Baruch Even
[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
Hi All,
Since there's a workaround, what do you think on reducing the sevirity of
this bug report. This will allow clumus 0.101-2 to get into sarge.
Since this is a real functionality issue and we want OOo to work out of
the box without the user needing anything special to do (including
installing another font package), I don't think this is appropriate.

Baruch - maybe a patch can be applied automatically using the postinst
script?
I cannot and should not touch the configuration files of OOo, this is in
the Debian policy, the files that need to be patched are not even in
/etc so they will be replaced on an upgrade/reinstall and I will not
have a chance to fix them again.

The real fix is to put the changes needed into the OOo package.
You are more than welcome asking the Debian OOo folks to adopt this fix.

These sysctl settings are needed to setup a new vserver on a grsecurity
 enabled system:

 kernel.grsecurity.chroot_deny_mount=0
 kernel.grsecurity.chroot_deny_mknod=0

Logging in remotely via SSH works with no errors.

I had an identical problem last week with some Athlon 64 machines
running Debian-amd64 (pure64, testing), but executing apt-get
dist-upgrade on Monday (and thus upgrading libc6 and nscd to
2.3.2.ds1-21) solved the issue. Sadly, in case of the 32-bit box
the upgrade didn't help.

Also, I manage a number of other 32-bit machines with Intel processors,
ranging from i686 to Pentium 4, running exactly the same version of
Debian with the same version of the packages in question, but 2.4-branch
kernels, which have no such problems.

Bug#306544: kcpuload(GNU/k*BSD): FTBFS: out of date config.sub/config.guess

2005-04-27 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Package: kcpuload
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

The current version of kcpuload fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD,
because of outdated config.guess and config.sub.

The versions of config.guess and config.sub in kcpuload are too
old to correctly support Debian GNU/k*BSD.

Bug#224510: forcing an audio rate with xine

2005-04-27 Thread Siggi Langauf
Hi,

it's probably a bit late for this note, but there is a way to force xine
to use a particular audio rate:

Just set the config option audio.synchronization.force_rate to 22050.
However, there's no way to force 8bit audio, AFAIK...

Cheers,
Siggi

Bug#261644: qa.debian.org: watch and wwiz columns are complementary

2005-04-27 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Package: qa.debian.org
Followup-For: Bug #261644

I'm currently working on a new version of developer.php where you will
select the columns you want to display.

I don't think that's really a solution to the original report.

The Watch and WWiz columns are (if I understand correctly) always
complementary: either watch is valid and provides the information XOR
wwiz is used as a heuristic. So there's no situation in which both
present useful information at the same time.

So I guess a solution would be to just merge the columns: if watch is ok
then display that else display wwiz. (perhaps use a different colour if
the info is coming from WWiz?)

Regards,

Thijs Kinkhorst

 /lib/tls/libc.so.6
 /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xb7fea000)

That's what mkinitrd uses to get the libs a binary depends on. The fixed

Yes, I confirmed it.

 version would be
 sed -n 's/.*\(=\)\?[[:blank:]]\+\(\/[^[:blank:]]*\).*/\2/p'
(No, I don't know what this break on and, no, I've not yet submitted a
 bugreport against mkinitrd.)
Anyway, bottom line is it doesn't put /lib/ld-linux.so.2 in the initrd,
 which makes it useless.

I think we shouldn't assume / character in \2 part. In 2.3.4, ldd
displays three different library formats as follows:

linux-gate.so.1 = (0xe000)
librt.so.1 = /lib/tls/i686/cmov/librt.so.1 (0xb7fdf000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xb7fea000)

So, how about it, instead.

sed 's/\(.*=\)\?[[:blank:]]*\(.*\)[[:blank:]]*\((.*)\)/\2/;/^$/d'

Fixing mkinitrd would be relatively easy, I guess, since I fixed mine,
but there may be other scripts which depend on this behaviour.

But this argument does not become the exact reason to modify ldd. I
think tools should be followed because the behavior of ldd is not
  standardized.

Yes, but changing one tool is better than changing N, where N is greater
 than one. :-)

Yeah, IIRC there're no more packages having this problem except for
mkinitrd - perhaps N equals 1 :-)

I think we have no reason reverting to the old 2.3.2.ds1 ldd format in
Debian glibc package locally. I'll put this change into initrd-tools.

I would suggest not using ssh in the package name. The software can be
used for many other things than just providing a clean TCP tunnel for
ssh. In fact it can be used by almost any application which needs a
clean TCP tunnel.

Another note: It might be worth mentioning that its HTTP-Proxy tunnel
won't work with content-inspection firewalls which will drop any
connection established by a CONNECT which do not use SSL. Many companies
use such firewalls.

Bug#306465: nis: ypserv can bind to port 636 which causes slapd to fail to start

in its use of ports it would make more sense IMHO to move it after slapd

There's not much room for manouver here: NIS runs at S19 (as does
slapd), wedged between portmap at S18 and the majority of things at S20.
It looks like it would be easier to get the change you're asking for by
getting slapd started earlier (with portmap at S18, say) - it's easier
to move things earlier in the boot process and slapd doesn't have a
portmap to consider.

I feel that it is way too late in the game to contemplate changing the
NIS startup in such a manner for sarge. There has been some talk of
restructuring things for etch (for example, in order to allow starting
autofs earlier) so it should probably be considered then.

If the OpenLDAP daemon were only called ldapd... :)

The problem can become quite pressing if for some reason it is triggered
on a remote system using ldap/slapd for authentification or autofs: it
can become impossible to log into the system and take care of the issue.

Fortunately the crossover between NIS and LDAP usage should be
relatively low.

Bug#306553: balsa: Cannot add new address book

2005-04-27 Thread Simon Brandmair
Package: balsa
Version: 2.3.0-2
Severity: normal

Since I upgraded from 2.2.6-1 to 2.3.0-2 I cannot add new address books
(actually I'm not quite sure if that still worked in 2.2.6 since I don't add
address books all the time). I can go through the add-dialog in
'Preferences-Address Books' but the supposedly added address book doesn't show
up in the address book list afterwards. I tested this with vcard books and the
query an external program address book.

Bye,
Simon

Bug#278495: libglib1.2-dev: Upgrade to sarge fails

Nobody knows what to say to it :/

In the bug logs I see some proposals regarding the perl dependencies
and Frank's last mail which suggests that the problem is probably fixed
but not yet confirmed as such.

No, it is not fixed AFAIK and there were objections to the proposal
of changing the dependencies (e.g. by vorlon, IIRC)...

I'm not sure how to do that but I just created a woody chroot, installed
libglib1.2-dev and then dist-upgraded to sarge. Worked fine at least. :)
If I have to confirm a more special scenario, just tell, I can quickly
rsync the chroot back to Woody.

It's not that simple. The following list of installed packages is known
to give you the effect:
http://www.lichtenheld.de/debian/perlupdate.installed

BTW: Maybe this bug should be retitled, too, as it the bug seems to be
some race-condition between the installation of perl and doc-base?

Yeah, feel free to do that. And to reassign it to perl as doc-base
doesn't really have anything to do with the problem, it just points it
out...

Bug#306554: gnome-terminal doesn't honor xmodmap settings

2005-04-27 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: gnome-terminal
Version: 2.8.2-2
Severity: normal

With xmodmap, I defined:

keycode 100 = Left 0x0001

so that when I press Shift+Left, I get a Ctrl-A character.
Indeed xev says:

KeyPress event, serial 26, synthetic NO, window 0x581,
root 0x25, subw 0x0, time 2207921486, (89,65), root:(348,250),
state 0x1, keycode 75 (keysym 0x1, (no name)), same_screen YES,
   ^^
XLookupString gives 1 bytes:

and this works without any problem in xterm, rxvt, mlterm and emacs.
But gnome-terminal does nothing.

Bug#306465: nis: ypserv can bind to port 636 which causes slapd to fail to start

2005-04-27 Thread Jens Taprogge
Torsten Landschoff cced. The short story is: slapd can fail to start if
one of the nis services grabs one of slapd's ports. My suggestion was to
move nis behind slapd in the startup process.

which binds to specific ports. At least if there are no other issues.

I agree. Should I file a bug against slpad?

I feel that it is way too late in the game to contemplate changing the
NIS startup in such a manner for sarge. There has been some talk of
restructuring things for etch (for example, in order to allow starting
autofs earlier) so it should probably be considered then.

If the OpenLDAP daemon were only called ldapd... :)

The problem can become quite pressing if for some reason it is triggered
on a remote system using ldap/slapd for authentification or autofs: it
can become impossible to log into the system and take care of the issue.

Fortunately the crossover between NIS and LDAP usage should be
 relatively low.

Bug#306557: zsync(GNU/k*BSD): FTBFS: out of date config.sub/config.guess

2005-04-27 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Package: zsync
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

The current version of zsync fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD,
because of outdated config.guess and config.sub.

The versions of config.guess and config.sub in zsync are too
old to correctly support Debian GNU/k*BSD.

Bug#306556: balsa: Little Brother Database support broken

2005-04-27 Thread Simon Brandmair
Package: balsa
Version: 2.3.0-2
Severity: normal

I have use the little brother database (lbdb) as an address book with 'external
query (program)'. 'Load program location' is 'lbdbq' and I have 'Expand aliases
as you type' enabled. This setting worked fine till up to version 2.2.6-1.
Now, when I compose a new message and start typing an address, balsa tries to
expand it. If balsa finds it in lbdb, it does not show that address anymore,
but just an empty line. If I select that empty line, balsa crashes:

Bug#306558: teapop-mysql: leading dots removal

2005-04-27 Thread Ilja A Marchew
Package: teapop-mysql
Version: 0.3.4-1woody2

According to RFC1939,
Responses to certain commands are multi-line. In these cases, which
are clearly indicated below, after sending the first line of the
response and a CRLF, any additional lines are sent, each terminated
by a CRLF pair. When all lines of the response have been sent, a
final line is sent, consisting of a termination octet (decimal code
046, .) and a CRLF pair. If any line of the multi-line response
begins with the termination octet, the line is byte-stuffed by
pre-pending the termination octet to that line of the response.
Hence a multi-line response is terminated with the five octets
CRLF.CRLF. When examining a multi-line response, the client checks
to see if the line begins with the termination octet. If so and if
octets other than CRLF follow, the first octet of the line (the
   termination octet) is stripped away.

So, if i send mail with
.AAA
string, it must be expanded to
..AAA
in POP3 session (as MTA do it).

But it doesn't, and leading dots has been stripped by MUA from all
containing lines. It's critical! For example, it corrupts
7bit-encoded PDF attached files.

No, not at the same time. The no keyboard option will only be used for
serial console and UML installs. The don't configure option will be
 used in all other cases.

Well, we should maybe make this even clearer and use Keep the kernel
keyboard mapping or something similar dor Don't configure.

Console-data uses Keep kernel keymap in that situation. Which was
for instance translated to Behoud de toetsenbordindeling van de
kernel in Dutch and Conserver le codage clavier du noyau in French.

However, console-data does not have such no keyboard option.

Anyway, a strong and clear comment for translators in needed here, anyway.

Do the same thing happen on util-vserver 0.30.206 (unstable) ?

the following encdng values results in a crash: 2,3,4,5,7,9,10,13,15,cp1251

which leaves: 1,14 as encodings, which do not crash

comparing to other fonts, it's seems reasonable that only 1 and 14 is present
as encdng values.

Since xfontsel does not crash with any other fonts I've tested (quite a lot),
I'm very convinced it's not an xfontsel bug.

Hi,

I couldn't reproduce this bug report. Is this still present in 0.70?
