No, it should only replace it unless there is a reason that the new bcrelay
can't be used with the old pptpd.

Bug#350346: cdrw-taper: Please try this:

2006-01-29 Thread Tobias Frost
Package: cdrw-taper
Version: 0.3-6
Severity: minor
Followup-For: Bug #350346

Unfortunatly you filled your bug without usage of reportbug,
so some infos are not there.

I have kernel 2.6.15 with udev. And the devfs setup works for me
even for udev-fs.

Please try this if you also have a udev setup.
Comment in the second regexp and the first one out

# Regexp for CD-RW devices
#$CD_DEVICE_RE = "/dev/s(cd|g)\\d+:?.*";
# For devfs
$CD_DEVICE_RE =
"^/dev/(ide|scsi)/host\\d/bus\\d/target\\d/lun\\d/(cd|generic):";

If you are not planning to upgrade: (Think about upgrading -- udev is
great!)
I am not a regexp nor a perl expert, so this hint can be wrong. (No liability!)
(I also can not try this, as I migrated to afbackup.)
If you do not have udev running, you can enter the name of your device:

$CD_DEVICE_RE = "/dev/hd[a|b|c|d]"

I made this decision back in the 1.0 days, where this warning was not
present IIRC. I think this was the right decision at the time because
it was not clear to the average user that anything was amiss... it
looked just as secure as any other site, which certainly was
completely unacceptable.

But if now firefox is issuing a warning, I think we can permit it by
default, and allow users to make there own choice.

Well the user should not be lulled into a false sense of security,
this was the point.

Correct.

In a related note, you might want to recheck what's happening in lines

effective no-op since DO_HIBERNATE is not referred to again in

This logic should have been reversed too. Apparently I did a pretty

First, sorry to not have bothered yet to submit a bug. I'm doing so now,
you'll get my mail twice, once directly, and once as a forward from the
Debian BTS. Please only reply to the latter one, as that will record
your response in the Debian BTS (and especially, do not email submit@,
because that will cause a new bug to be submitted).

Basicly, the problem is that repeated rsync -a from a source repository
can break when the source repository is replacing a directory with a
symlink.

Source repository:

drwxr-xr-x 3 jeroen jeroen 4096 Jan 30 07:41 .

-rw-r--r-- 1 jeroen jeroen 0 Jan 30 07:41 ./foo/bah

$ rsync -a source/ target/
$ {success}

Change source repository into:

Bug#330125: status of toolchain-source?

Hi,

Martin Michlmayr schrieb:

I think the most important aspect of that is the gcc-4.1-source package,
as with that you can create a small package that just contains the
necessary scripting to fully bootstrap a cross compiler. So far,
toolchain-source both provided the source and the scripting, in order to
really get the same functionality, we'd need to merge the "build
scripting from template" stuff into the gcc package as well.

In general I would agree that merging is good. One of my packages
requires a compiler for i386-linux to build, another is going to require
a compiler for arm-linux, it would be good if there were a way to do
this sanely (for various levels of sanely, I'm currently thinking about

Build-Depends-Indep: gcc-i386-cross | gcc-source [!i386],
  binutils-i386-cross | binutils-source [!i386]

and simply building the necessary cross compiler from debian/rules)

> Have you looked at how GCC does it now? It's really trivial.

Bootstrapping is nontrivial these days, because someone fscked up the
gcc build, so it no longer suffices to call the "all-host" rule to get a
freestanding compiler you could use for kernel and libc, and then return
to the gcc tree and invoke the "all" rule. Instead, you now need to
configure gcc as freestanding, no shared libs, and compile your kernel
and libc with that, then throw away your compiler and start anew.

What would be needed is a way to build a freestanding compiler, then
later on add libcs to the existing package, probably by editing the
specs file.

severity 350480 important
thanks

Hi

This pacakge is not in testing for amd64 and thus this is an important
bug, not serious. Thanks anyway for the bug.

Yes I saw that from the build logs myself. I'm not fully sure why this happen
bug
my suspicion is that something went wrong when building the vnc common
directory.

Patches are very welcome as I do not have access to amd64 hardware.

If kronolith1 (named kronolith) can not be fixed, and is not supported
at all by upstream I think we should drop it.

Bug#350061: pwc doesn't override upstream kernel module

2006-01-29 Thread Lawrence Williams
Hello,

Hmmm I think it is similar to the ALSA issue a while back where both kernel
and seperate packages supplied the same module. It was basically a crapshoot
as to which one would load. Sometimes kernel, sometimes packaged externally
stuff.

Anyways, I have built a pwc-modules package against Debian kernel
2.6.15-1-686-smp using module-assistant, installed it, and still get just a
grey picture in any app that trys to access my webcam. In case you are
wondering, I am running a Debian Unstable system :)

Here is the dmesg output:

rivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: v2.6:USB HID core driver
Linux video capture interface: v1.00
pwc Philips webcam module version 9.0.2-unofficial loaded.
pwc Supports Philips PCA645/646, PCVC675/680/690, PCVC720[40]/730/740/750 &
PCVC830/840.
pwc Also supports the Askey VC010, various Logitech Quickcams, Samsung MPC-C10
and MPC-C30,
pwc the Creative WebCam 5 & Pro Ex, SOTEC Afina Eye and Visionite VCS-UC300
and VCS-UM100.
pwc Logitech QuickCam Zoom (new model) USB webcam detected.
pwc Registered as /dev/video0.
usbcore: registered new driver Philips webcam
usbcore: registered new driver snd-usb-audio

This proves it is still loading the old kernel pwc. My previous one-line patch
to the debian/rules file (using dh_link to create a link
from /lib/modules/$(KVERS)/misc/pwc.ko
to /lib/modules/$(KVERS)/updates/pwc.ko ) works perfectly. It forces modprobe
to give priority to pwc-module's pwc.ko (modules in the 'updates' folder take
priority over those located elsewhere)

After the '$(MAKE) install ...' line in debian/rules, add:

# Workaround Debian kernel pwc module always being loaded
# Forces pwc-modules' version
dh_link lib/modules/$(KVERS)/misc/pwc.ko
lib/modules/$(KVERS)/updates/pwc.ko

It is quite a simple fix :)

Good night,
Lawrence

Bug#350061: pwc doesn't override upstream kernel module

2006-01-29 Thread Lawrence Williams
Just one quick note before I head off (early morning coming up).

The packages ship a file for modutils, which is meant for older 2.2-2.4
kernels. I don't have time to test, but maybe this is where my problem comes
from, as my system uses module-init-tools.

Bug#350519: giftui suddenly will not start at all

2006-01-29 Thread Tyler Olsen

Package: giftui
Version: 0.4.1-6
Severity: |grave|

I haven't opened up gift since before I upgraded my system from testing to
unstable, but now I find that I can not run giftui at all, even though it was
previously setup and working without any trouble at all.

Running giftui provides no more information than the following:

$ giftui
Segmentation fault

This happens both when I invoke giftd -d prior to making this call, and also when giftd is not running in the background. From what I can tell, giftd runs fine.

I tried doing a reinstallation of all gift packages on my system tonight, but
the problem persists. I wish I could give a more detailed report about what the
problem may be, but I have looked at all my configuration files and I am
clueless. Feel free to contact me if you have more information that you'd like
to request for resolving this bug. Thanks.

Bug#350512: mWh batt and ENABLE_AUTO_HIBERNATION=1 results in unwanted hibernations

2006-01-29 Thread EspeonEefi
Package: laptop-mode-tools
Version: 1.22-1
Followup-For: Bug #350512

In addition to the problem line mentioned by Bob, the -lt in line 621
causes laptop-mode-tools to hibernate my laptop any time I disconnect or
reconnect the power cord or close or open my lid since I have
ENABLE_AUTO_HIBERNATION=1. I believe that -lt in line 621 should also be
a -gt.

In a related note, you might want to recheck what's happening in lines
601-611. At the very least, I know that the DO_HIBERNATE=1 line is an
effective no-op since DO_HIBERNATE is not referred to again in
/usr/sbin/laptop_mode.

Bug#350518: Auto-hibernation fails if AUTO_HIBERNATION_BATTERY_* < MINIMUM_BATTERY_*

2006-01-29 Thread EspeonEefi
Package: laptop-mode-tools
Version: 1.22-1
Severity: normal

When the battery charge slips below MINIMUM_BATTERY_*, laptop_mode will
try to proceed with ACTIVATE_WITH_POSSIBLE_DATA_LOSS=0. This results in
the else branch starting at line 916 being taken, and
/proc/sys/vm/laptop_mode being set to 0 at line 920.

Once this happens, all subsequent battery events will have their calls
to laptop_mode quashed, since /etc/acpi/actions/lm_battery.sh calls
/usr/sbin/laptop_mode only if /proc/sys/vm/laptop_mode is greater than
0.

Thus, as long as there is a battery event after the battery's passing
MINIMUM_BATTERY_* levels and before the battery's reaching
AUTO_HIBERNATION_BATTERY_* levels, laptop_mode will be disabled until
either the battery runs out or an AC adaptor is plugged in and the
battery restored to a state with more charge than MINIMUM_BATTERY_*.
Thus, the new auto-hibernation functionality of laptop-mode-tools will
never be called.

Bug#349357: totem: Doesn't occur in 1.3.1

2006-01-29 Thread Simon Waters
Package: totem
Version: 1.2.1-3
Followup-For: Bug #349357

Building 1.3.1 on a Debian unstable box from the GNOME tar ball works fine.

Building 1.2.1 from the Debian sources with the Debian patches (both of
them) fails.

Problem occurs in both totem-gstreamer and totem-xine.

The bug also sometimes manifests as a bug with the "Supported file"
filter, or perhaps a related bug.

Hello,

The latest release of the Free UCS outline font suite (20060126) should
offer a somewhat decent support for Devanagari, Bengali, Gurmukhi and
Gujarati in Free Sans, and Bengali, Tamil and Malayalam in Free Serif.
Please have a look at it and report any misbehaviour you encounter:

http://download.savannah.nongnu.org/releases/freefont/freefont-ttf-20060126.tar.gz

I have to admit however that I am looking for a decent GPL-ed source for
Telugu. A couple of minutes ago I read on <
http://www.indlinux.org/wiki/index.php/IndicFontsList> that Pothana 2000 is
released under GNU GPL, which is new to me - the last time I checked its
license was different. The last time I checked, it was charity-ware <
http://www.kavya-nandanam.com/dload.htm>. Can somebody please comment on it.

I however agree with Dr. Nagarjuna that incomplete support for Indic
languages in various fonts of the Free UCS outline font suite can interfere
with the fonts selection mechanism and obscures the fact that these scripts
should honesly be called unsupported in the Free UCS outline font suite. I
plan to either find a suitable replacement for these parts or remove these
parts of the font by the next release, which should happen some time in
February.

With kind regards,
Primoz

Bug#350516: CVE-2006-0236: File Attachment Spoofing Vulnerability

2006-01-29 Thread Geoff Crompton
Package: mozilla-thunderbird
Version: 1.0.2-2.sarge1.0.7
Severity: important

security focus reports a file attachment problem:
http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/16271

In short, it seems attackers can trick users into saving files that are
spoofed. Quoting the secunia description:
>The vulnerability is caused due to attachments not being displayed

>and the associated file type icon via a combination of overly long

It got fixed in 1.5 and in CVS ages ago, but wasn't disclosed until this
January.

Bug#270967: Why purging gconf2-common might erase your /etc

2006-01-29 Thread Adrian Bunk
severity 270967 critical

Hi Sebastien,

I think I can answer the following question you raised:

<--  snip  -->

The weird point is that running "sh /var/lib/dpkg/info/gconf2.postrm
purge" doesn't display any error, but the same line called by apt raises
an error ...

<--  snip  -->

The problem is only triggered when /etc/gconf2/ is empty.

2006-01-29 Thread Peter J. W.
Package: libpam-ssh

The option try_first_pass of the pam module pam_ssh does the same as the
option use_first_pass, i.e. if the login password is not the ssh key
passphrase, the ssh key is simply not loaded. According to the
documentation (man pages), the user should be prompted for another
password with "try_first_pass" (as oposed to "use_first_pass").
This was verified witih ssh and console login.

BTW.: I got the impression, that the option "debug" is ignored

I think that's probably a good idea, but why does the patch need to be
complicated by the fraction and such? If we're counting any power
gain/loss as activity, seems to me it could just use them to unset its
idle counter. If you have a reason for the fractions, I'm open to it but

The way to fix this would probably be to make sleepd open
/dev/input/event* and read from it. When it gets output, it can reset
its idle timer.

This would need to be done in a non-blocking select so that the rest of
sleepd still has a chance to watch for battery etc events (and irqs).
I'm too tired to code it tonight, but there ya go.

Bug#350500: Documentation: no indication in source directory of installation procedure

2006-01-29 Thread Aurelien Jarno

severity 350500 wishlist
thanks

Greg Kochanski a écrit :

Package: rt2500-source
Severity: normal

There is no indication in the source directory of
the correct Debian installation procedure,
nor any pointer about where to look.

It's written in the package description. Moreover if you found that the
package install a file in /usr/src, you probably also have seen the
documentation files.

Of course, any Debian expert will look in
/usr/share/doc/rt2500-source/README.Debian,
but what about everyone else?

This is the case for all packages, not only for rt2500-source. The
documentation is always there on Debian (not only on Debian), and it is
written in almost all (un)official manuals.

I would suggest adding
an INSTALL.Debian file to the source directory
that refers to the /usr/share/doc documentation
as a minimum.

I may do that, however I can't upload rt2500 packages for a while as
there is already a new version in the NEW queue.

Another alternative would
be changing the makefile so that

make install

would print a message.

Well that's not possible, as this is used during the build of the module.

Bye,
Aurelien

Bug#350123: galeon: Link context menu does not offer 'Open with...' like the image context menu.

2006-01-29 Thread Tim Baverstock
Hi.

The particular example might be a GIMP bug, but the overall issue is that I
would like Galeon to have a pop-up menu entry that asks me which application
I want to send an arbitrary link to - not necessarily an SVG to GIMP: it
could be that I want to send a .txt link to vi, or that I sometimes want to
send a .wek link to xfwek and sometimes send it to xwek. Perhaps even -
horrors - a .html link to my shell script that fires up Internet Explorer in
Wine.

Bug#350512: laptop-mode-tools: Says "deactivating data loss sensitive features" when on battery.

2006-01-29 Thread Bob Hauck
Package: laptop-mode-tools
Version: 1.22-1

My laptop has lately been refusing to activate laptop mode. Don't know
when this started, just noticed it. When run manually, "laptop_mode
start" reports that it is "deactivating data loss sensitive features".
Verbose mode reveals that it thinks the battery is too low.

My laptop reports battery level in mWh, as opposed to mAh. There is a
bug in the laptop_mode script that causes the script to think the
battery is low when it really isn't, but only when the units are mWh.

The cause is a typo on line 618 of the script, where the test for
remaining power has a '-lt' where it should be a '-gt'.

Bug#88906: GREETINGS

2006-01-29 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Greetings,
I wish you a good day and a happy new year. This message is to bring your attention a situation which has presented itself to me and may be of interest to you.
I am D.B. Goel and I work with Investec in the U.K. In the course of my work I manage the customer portfolio division and have had to deal with many situations and circumstances. This new developement is however a unique one. I will explain the circumstances which brought about this.
In December 2003, an American businessman, who I will not name here, approached us with a view to transfer management of his substantial portfolio to us. As de-facto COO at the time, I advised him according to banking policy as practiced here. In the course of our relating, I got to know many personal details about him. I advised on high yeild bonds and debentures but he was a cautious investor and remained with lower yeild less risk instruments. This we did for almost two years and he seemed pleased with it. In order to keep his business we offered special services reserved only for such clients and he seemed satisfied.
Then in March 2005, my client expressed the need to liquidate his portfolio to execute a transaction in Europe requiring large sums of money. I interviewed him accordingly and dispite all my stated reservations, I was unable to disuade him from his wish. Even with the heavy penalties and charges on unmatured instruments, he was steadfast. The new demands on transparency on money accross borders also had to be considered. Becuase of this, some extra security arrangements were made. Having satisfied all requirements and paying penalties, I made the arrangements for the money, now totaling U.S. $ 35.4 Million, to be transfered to a firm in Amsterdam according to his request. The contact in Amsterdam confirmed the details and that was the end of the matter.
A few weeks into November 2005, the firm in Amsterdam contacted me by phone and asked for any documentation which I have on the client that will aid them in locating his family. I subsequently told him to make such request in writing. This lead to further discussion and I learned the client had not turned up to keep his appointment due to heart attack. The abscence led to a break in communication as no other contact was given by way of a family or other relations in the clients personal data form. This is not unusual in private investment as annonimity is of high priority to many clients. Subsequent investigations by them have found that no family on record exists. This and the fact that he died in testate, left the account on hold for too long. Normally, in situations where an account remains dormant for long periods the firm it is domiciled eventually absorbs it. I feel that I can turn the situation and prevent that from happening.
What I propose is that you and I come together and present you as closest family member. With my file records and a partner, we can have them turn the money over to us. This will require some legal documentation and dedication from both of us but I am 100% sure they will pay the money to us. I would like to stress here that the requirements to carry this through will not come cheap. From what I have gathered, a good attorney will need U.S. $ 47,000.00 to handle the legal end. Unfortunately I do not have that kind of money, so we will have to pool our resources to get that done. Once that is done the firm in Amsterdam will be obligated by law to transfer ownership to you. I offer you full partnership meaning we share all responsibilities and benefits equally. This will take approximately three weeks to conclude and the money will be ours without any legal complications now or in future.
I hope that these terms are satisfatory. If so, please contact me at the more private email dgoel at mail.com.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
D.B. Goel.

Agreed, I don't think it's useful to our users, and generally just
causes more confusion. I'm removing it from the next release.

These are usually due to bogus casts of GType variables to ints or gints;
someone somewhere must have example code suggesting this is an appropriate
thing to do, and one of these days I'm going to find that example code and
dynamite it. :)

Anyway, grepping through the source code for GType is usually a pretty good
way to find these bugs.

Bug#350510: loads ohci-hcd; breaks resume from software suspend

2006-01-29 Thread Joey Hess
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.48
Severity: normal

On my laptop, a Fujutsu P-2110 lifebook, if I use softwre suspend
(version 1; to disk), when resuming the initramfs loads ohci_hcd before
starting the resume process. When the hibernate program then tries to
load ohci_hcd (which does not show as loaded in lsmod anymore due to the
software suspend resume having happened), it fails to load like this:

ohci_hcd: 2005 April 22 USB 1.1 'Open' Host Controller (OHCI) Driver (PCI)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt :00:02.0[A] -> Link [LNKU] -> GSI 11 (level, low) ->
IRQ 11
ohci_hcd :00:02.0: OHCI Host Controller
ohci_hcd :00:02.0: USB HC takeover failed! (BIOS/SMM bug)
ohci_hcd :00:02.0: can't reset
ACPI: PCI interrupt for device :00:02.0 disabled
ohci_hcd :00:02.0: init :00:02.0 fail, -16
ohci_hcd: probe of :00:02.0 failed with error -16

And usb stops working.

I discovered a simple workaround for this; I modified hook-functions to not
include the ohci_hcd module in my initramfs, so it is not loaded before the
reume. Then the module loads ok. So I suppose that the kernel is getting
confused with this module being loaded essentially twice in a row w/o
being unloaded.

At a minimum, there should be some way to drop the usb modules from the
initramfs, if they're not needed to mount the root filesystem, so I don't
need to edit files in /usr to work around this problem.

A slightly better fix is to modify local-premount/suspend to
rmmod all unused kernel modules before resuming the system. Here's
something I came up with that works for me:

for module in $(cat /proc/modules |awk '{ print $1}'); do
rmmod $module 2>/dev/null || true
done
echo $major_minor >/sys/power/resume

[Even more optimal would be for the initramfs to avoid loading any kernel
modules when doing a resume, since none of the modules really need to be
loaded and loading unnecessary modules leads to unnecessry delay during
resume. For example, on my latop, loading the ethernet module takes 3
seconds and this happens unneccessarily before every resume. Of course,
this is difficult given the current code since it relys on udev to make
the devide node that is then examined to get the major and minor numbers
to use when resuming.]

Bug#350509: liferea: does not cache images in feeds

2006-01-29 Thread Felipe Almeida Lessa
Package: liferea
Version: 1.0.2-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

Currently Liferea does not cache images in the feeds, so loading things
like the RSS from art.gnome.org can be a bit painful as he loads the
icon of the site *always* before the thumbnail (and I have to always
wait him downloading the same thing). Besides, I *think* he closes the
connection everytime, but I have not tracked this down.

A really nice solution would be to load images as it loads the feed and
keep them ready to be used!

Cheers,
Felipe.

Are you sure?

When the exim on my server blocked due to lack of entropy, I had about 100
processes trying to access /dev/random (at least lsof said so).

As a side note: With GNU TLS, every _single_ encrypted mail transmission
_totally_ depletes my entropy pool (going from ~3500 to ~150), but after
recompiling Exim4 with OpenSSL, only about 200 bits (the number is
difficult to measure, but it is way less than with GNU TLS) are used.

To be able to use Exim on this server, I had to patch the kernel to use
the network card as additional entropy source and after this didn't work
out to well, I also had to symlink /dev/random to /dev/urandom, which of
course is only my last resort to keep the things running.

Grüße,
S

When quitting after a mailbox has been emptied by an external program, Mutt
seems to issue a double free, and newer libc6 versions crash on this.
>How-To-Repeat:
Open a mailbox with one unread message, eg. [1], on terminal 1, like:

t1% mutt -nF /dev/null -f sample-mailbox

Press intro; the message gets displayed.

On terminal 2, empty the mailbox with:

t2% echo -n >sample-mailbox

On terminal 1 again, press 'q'; Mutt says "Mailbox was externally modified.
Flags may be wrong." Now press 'q' again:

BTW, it seems most of this stuff is not needed anymore. the GCC
package in Debian can easily build a cross-compiler now thanks to the
work by some Emdebian bloke. The same needs to be done for binutils.

Have you looked at how GCC does it now? It's really trivial.

(which is vastly changed from 4.8) and this invocation:

(export TEXINPUTS=foobar:; texi2dvi info.texi)

You should be able to grab texi2dvi from cvs and try it without worrying
about any of the other tools. If the problem still happens, please tell
me what the error message actually is and what the invocation was.

Bug#269413: Bug reports for texinfo (and 2 wishes)

2006-01-29 Thread Karl Berry
269413 [INTL:da] Updated program translation
-
The submitter is the author of the da translation in 4.8, too, and he has
sent in a new translation. But this one is not in cvs. I know that the
translations have to come in from the translation project, but this
fixed translation is from 2004-09-01!

I'm not sure what you're saying.

I can only accept translations through the translation project.
Anything else will lead to madness. As far as I know this is true for
nearly all other GNU packages, too.

I admit I do not know precisely how to upload new translations to the
translation project, but if you poke around on the web pages
(http://www.iro.umontreal.ca/translation/HTML/), the Danish team members
should be apparent, and you (or the original author or whomever) can get
in touch with them. Or with the translation team managers if no one
responds.

Can you (or someone) do this, please? Generally translators are
responsible for getting their translations uploaded. Then I install
them when I get the notification.

Thanks,
karl

Bug#234848: Bug reports for texinfo (and 2 wishes)

2006-01-29 Thread Karl Berry
234848 info ./jdfsdofs starts with man page of top, instead of the Top
node

If you supply a filename on the cmdline which does not exists, then the
man page of top is shown, instead of showing the Top node in dir.

Maybe this can be handled also via error handling in the spirit of the
stuff said in the previous bug report!

It seems someone (maybe me :) actually fixed this at one point, and I
forgot about it. When I run info ./foobar now, I get the dir node and a
message "no item ./foobar" in menu.

This is in CVS, post-4.8.

Thanks,
k

218557 dies with "Cannot find node `Top'"

That is a very long bug report, but what I need to fix the bug is the
actual dir file which causes the crash, and I don't see it there.
(Maybe it's there and I'm missing it amongst all the other stuff.)

I appreciate all the analysis and strace's and gdb transcripts and so
on, but it doesn't help me reproduce it or confirm a fix.

This package replaces xmbdfed with a switch from Motif to GTK+, xmbdfed
is no longer being maintained.

Hints on how to do the transition in the best way are solicited. Should
I provide a xmbdfed package from gbdfed that will just depend on gbdfed
for transition purposes? Do I need to request the removal of xmbdfed
before I upload this package?

Bug#350504: kaffeine-mozilla: Plugin involved in Konqueror crashing upon a right-click "Save Link As..."

2006-01-29 Thread Sukant Hajra
Package: kaffeine-mozilla
Version: 0.4.3.1-1
Severity: important

Hi,

I've marked this bug important, because it actually causes a very hard
crash but I know these things can be a little subjective.

Here's how I reproduce the problem. I use Ebaum's World, because it's
just the first site that I know off the top of my head that has a lot of
embedded media, but I'm sure I've seen the problem on other sites as
well.

1) Bring up Konqueror and goto http://www.ebaumsworld.com/.
2) Select any of the "Daily Media." Note that the plugin actually works
for me and the embedded video plays fine.
3) Right click on the link labeled "If video does not play, click here
to Download" and select "Save Link As..."

You should then have a signal 11 (SIGSEGV) crash of Konqueror.

I removed the kaffeine-mozilla package from my system, and Konqueror
downloads the file fine in that case. As far as I can tell, there seems
to be some really bad interaction between Konqueror and the plugin.
Unfortunately, I just know any more information than what I've included
in this bug report.

This was mentioned upstream too, although upstream had thought it was due
to new code in CVS. Apparently not. Could you get a backtrace of the
core dump? A run of gnubg in valgrind up to that point may also be
useful.

I do have an AMD64 system that I just haven't had time to build yet;
hopefully I'll get to that soon and then will be able to test easily
myself.

I have created a core dump using gcore - hope it is useful. Besides I
have used valgrind-3.0.1-Debian without any options.

Result of both runs can temporarily be found at
ftp://213.150.38.188/gnubg.tar.gz - login as ftp. The file is almost 10
MB so I couldn't mail it.

To emphasize: The dchroot is a 32 bit environment running sid. GNU
backgammon is also here version 0.14.3.

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Heh. Yes and Yes! Thank you!

Those two packages are *supposed* to work together. I installed it

Bug#350051: acknowledged by developer (Re: Bug#350051: rt2500-source: installs files in wrong places)

2006-01-29 Thread Greg Kochanski

Debian Bug Tracking System wrote:

This is an automatic notification regarding your Bug report
#350051: rt2500-source: installs files in wrong places,
which was filed against the rt2500-source package.

It has been closed by one of the developers, namely
Aurelien Jarno <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

Their explanation is attached below. If this explanation is
unsatisfactory and you have not received a better one in a separate
message then please contact the developer, by replying to this email.

tar
make
make install

leaves you with an alias in /etc/modprobe.conf , instead
of somewhere within /etc/modprobe.d , as I believe it should.
Also, the compiled rt2500.ko module is left in
/lib/modules/2.6.12/extra/rt2500.ko instead of somewhere
below /lib/modules/2.6.12-1-686/ as it should.
Consequently, modprobe does not find the module,
and nothing functions.

This is because you are not using the Debian way to build the modules.
Please have a look at /usr/share/doc/rt2500-source/README.Debian

Granted. However a note to that effect should be included
somewhere obvious. For instance, when you run

make install

it should echo "Debian does not use make install. Please see
/usr/share/doc/rt2500-source/README.Debian"

All documentation should be as local as possible,
and there should be pointers to the documentation from wherever
people will be looking. It's really
not quite appropriate to have a directory that gives incorrect
installation instructions without even a note that there are
distribution-specific instructions.

I did indeed look at /usr/share/doc/rt2500-source/README.Debian
after the fact. It was quite helpful, but it still leaves
a documentation bug: the lack of a pointer to the relevant
documentation from the source directory.

I know, someone will say "But you should always look at
/usr/share/doc/*/README.Debian!"That's correct,
but the wrong attitude: that's the attitude of a
Debian expert.Real computer systems need to be
designed for people who aren't Debian experts,
because there are 6 billion of them and a few thousand
experts.

/usr/share/doc/rt2500-source/README.Debian,
but what about everyone else?

I would suggest adding
an INSTALL.Debian file to the source directory
that refers to the /usr/share/doc documentation
as a minimum. Another alternative would
be changing the makefile so that

make install

would print a message.

Bug#350499: libnss-ldap incorrectly behaves if /etc/libnss-ldap.conf mode is 600

2006-01-29 Thread Thibaut VARENE
Package: libnss-ldap
Version: 238-1.1
Severity: important

If /etc/libnss-ldap.conf is only root-readable, and nscd is not running,
one can login to the machine, but then uid matching is not performed,
leading to that kind of things:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ ssh esperanza
Password:
Linux Esperanza.r3z0 2.6.15-1-parisc64-smp #2 SMP Thu Jan 19 03:41:55
UTC 2006 parisc64
[I have no [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ ssh tatooine
You don't exist, go away!
[I have no [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ ls -ld .
drwxr-xr-x 12 1001 users 4096 Jan 29 23:22 .
[I have no [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ whoami
whoami: cannot find name for user ID 1001

if libnss-ldap.conf is world readable, this problem disappears.

I noticed this as nscd won't start on this machine (i'll fil a bugreport
right away).

I cannot tell whether that's a "feature" or a "bug", but it does look
bogus anyway, and perhaps should be documented somewhere...

Bug#347574: nautilus: freezes in xnest xdmcp session when dragging an icon on the desktop

2006-01-29 Thread Mark Clarkson
Note that this may not be to do with just VNC as I just came across the
same problem when using Xnest. Using tsclient I connected to the remote
machine (actually localhost but as a different user) using the XDMCP
protocol, which opens in Xnest.

I could create a folder and name it, and I could right-click on it and
send it to Trash. Nautilus hangs when I try to drag any desktop item.

In ps ax I have:
  nautilus --sm-config-prefix /nautilus-WWM2Rw/ --sm-client-id
  117f0100011323393710037770002 --screen 0
but for the remote I have:
  nautilus --no-default-window --sm-client-id default2
if that means anything?

'kill -HUP ' fixes things, and the ps output looks better(?)
  nautilus --sm-client-id 117f010001138572796025312
  --screen 0

If I try to drag again, the same thing happens (nautilus hangs).

I've added a statement to this effect at the end of each of the
manpages.

Changes are now in chrony's git repository.

Bug#345623: Persistent volume down command

2006-01-29 Thread Raúl Sánchez Siles
I have noticed this behavior on my laptop when I insert the CDROM. Before this
my laptop (Inpiron 510m) has the auxiliary battery on the side bay, when I
extract the battery, I insert the CDROM drive. In this moment, I see the kmilo
window notification continuosly lowing the volume, as I would be pressing the
volume down key continuously.

When this happens, I see the following messages in the syslog:

Jan 29 11:31:56 parvo kernel: acpi_bus-0072 [169] bus_get_device : No con
text for object [dfe829e8]

Jan 29 11:31:56 parvo kernel: acpi_bus-0072 [169] bus_get_device : No con
text for object [dfe829e8]

I thought this were related to udev or dbus-1, but I tried stopping these
services, and that I saw is a misfunction in kmilo and kded. You can see my
versions in the attached file. I use testing. At the moment I don't know where
to follow this issue, but I hope this clues help to discover the bug.

Bug#350493: Subject: python-hid: Python bindings are virtually unusable

2006-01-29 Thread Charles Lepple
Package: python-hid
Version: 0.2.12-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The SWIG interface file in libhid 0.2.12-1 does not properly handle
conversion of Python string and list objects into buffer/length pairs.
This means that nearly all of the functions which pass "HID path" arrays
or binary buffers will not work (resulting in TypeErrors, or crashing
the interpreter).

Upstream SVN (post 0.2.15) has fixes for all of the functions currently
known to be broken.

Bug#350492: nautilus: Copy/Paste makes program unusable (100% CPU load, not responding)

2006-01-29 Thread Dimitri Chausson
Subject: nautilus: Copy/Paste makes program unusable (100% CPU load, not
responding)
Package: nautilus
Version: 2.10.1-5
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***
I can reproduce this problem, but I do not know what to look for. I
select 8 pictures from a directory (total size is about 10M), use
copy (Ctrl+C). I open another window on the target directory, and use
paste. At that time, the CPU load grows till 98%. Waiting 5 minutes
does not change the situation.
The source and target directory are not located on the same partition of
the disk. I noticed that the copy/paste works if I create a link to the
target directory on my Desktop (still another partition, though). Opening
this window and pasting into it works perfectly.

It belongs to the main functionality for a file manager to move files
around, hence the severity. I can provide you with more information
anytime,

Dimitri

Bug#350488: ftp.debian.org: remove fprobe source package from sid

2006-01-29 Thread Adam D. Barratt
retitle 350488 RM: fprobe-ng -- RoM; replaced by fprobe

Erm, it appears to be the other way around?

The fprobe-ng source package was last uploaded in August, and was at
version 1.1-3 when it was removed last November due to being obsolete
(not being the source package for any binaries in the archive). The
fprobe source package, on the other hand, was last uploaded in November:

 fprobe (1.1-4) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Replace the old fprobe package with the fprobe-ng version
 (closes: #322869)
   * Added a fprobe-ng meta package for the fprobe-ng -> fprobe transition

If that's correct then there's nothing left to remove and this bug can be
closed.

Regards,

Adam

I only run xfree. I have not yet shifted to x.org.If there is a
dependency on an xorg package, doesn't it mean that the package should
be created separately for xfree and xorg.
