Bug#353950: workrave: New upstream version available 1.8.2

2006-02-22 Thread Adriaan Peeters
Package: workrave
Severity: wishlist

A new version of workrave has been released last month. Version 1.8.2
mainly contains bug fixes: fixed a crash when using a third party gtk+
runtime, fixed a bug that caused status windows to be disabled when the
micro-break timer was hidden, translation fixes and better
hibernate/standby support on Unix.

Please package it any time soon :)

Thanks,
Adriaan

I never use doc-base, therefore I didn't touch this so far, sorry.

The other alternative would be to only register teTeX's base documents,
or should we say "documentation entry points", namely
/usr/share/texmf/doc/index.html,
/usr/share/texmf/doc/helpindex.html,
/usr/share/texmf/doc/texdoc.php, and
/usr/share/texmf/doc/tetex/TETEXDOC.pdf.gz?

But *if* we go for registering most of the documents, this probably
means looking at them an checking whether they are suitable as user
documentation. In that case, the people doing this should take the
opportunity and also check the license and source availability of the
document - there are many with unclear status, see #345604

Please note that the latest patch has some other changes than the
LC_ADDRESS, is tested and compiled, thus I recommend you use this
patch for the second step of the transition.

Seems to be the case, it works if I do it from a "su -". A dupe of bug

Bug#353951: denyhosts: Invalid lock file

2006-02-22 Thread Jordà Polo
Package: denyhosts
Version: 2.1-1
Severity: important

The new version of denyhosts uses "Redhat/Fedora" LOCK_FILE by default,
instead of "Debian", making it impossible to run the program in a fresh
installation until /etc/denyhosts.conf is manually fixed.

'/etc/init.d/denyhosts start' fails with the following error:

Commenting line 173 of denyhosts.cfg-dist and uncommenting line 176

Bug#353952: initrd-tools: LVM2-on-root fails w/o devfs

2006-02-22 Thread Frederic Briere
Package: initrd-tools
Version: 0.1.81.1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

When trying to boot off an initrd created for a LVM2 root with a
devfs-less kernel, the LVM tools attempt and fail to create device nodes
under /dev/mapper (since cramfs is read-only).

I know this has been declared "fixed" by telling everybody to move on to
initramfs-tools (I must say I find it a dubious practice to close bugs
that way), but this is of little solace to those of us running sarge.

So, I'm attaching a quick and dirty patch to mkinitrd that solves this
issue. It's ugly and produces some warnings on boot, but it works. (It
shouldn't break thinks for devfs-enabled kernels either, but I haven't
tested that assumption.) Simply apply the patch, run dpkg-divert, and
you're all set.

Bug#353953: amsn: bgerror when trying to configure the webcam

2006-02-22 Thread Stéphane Rosi
Package: amsn
Version: 0.95-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

I have a webcam supported by the spca5xx driver that works well with
gnome meeting.

When I try to configure it on amsn, I go to Tools -> Preferences ->
Others -> Configure Webcam. Until now everything looks fine, on the
configure webcam window: type=Direct-connect, listening =true, ports
well configured, webcam extension loaded, webcam extension capture
loaded.

Then I click change video settings, I choose my webcam from the devices:
V4L: Z-star Vimicro zc0302 (the only one in fact). I choose the channel:
ZC301-2 (still the only one available).

At that point the light of my webcam goes on, which means that amsn
tries to access to it, so the preview should appear soon. But I got that error:

bgerror failed to handle background error.
Original error: expected integer but got ""
Error in bgerror: unable to convert date-time string "5//20/12/0 05::00"

And no preview appears... the light of my webcam is still on, but goes
off when I close the configure webcam window. I can continue using amsn
normally.

Any clue? Ask me if you need more logs or information.

Cheers,
--
Steph

Bug#275365: sdr fails with IPv6 support

Hi,

Here is a patch for correcting this: when IPv6 can be compiled but no
ipv6 address is assigned to the host, hostaddr_v6 should just be set to
zero, so that it won't be used for IP addresses trust.

Please apply.

BTW, using DNS lookup for determined our own IPv6 address (which we then
trust) poses security problems...

Strange that the second "restart" in your example didn't do anything...
Anyway, the point is that a "restart" leaves wwwoffle in the same state
it was. This was done because of bug reports that the nightly restart
(for the log rotate and the rotating of the lasttime etc. dirs) resulted
in a wwwoffle that was not "online" in the morning, whereas it was
before the night.

There was already a bug report about this, I wish you would learn to
check for existing bugs before opening new ones willy-nilly. This has
been going on for years with you :-(

> Yikes. Autodial mode. Never expected that...

Well, then you were *already* in autodial mode before the restart!
If you simply want to go offline: "wwwoffle -offline"

Hello Marc,

this bug is 100% reproducible (try with piupart) and affect the sarge to
etch upgrade by adding a completly meaningless dpkg conffiles handling
query which is worse than a debconf prompt since it cannot be preseeded.

> Reverting to dpkg conffiles buys us one less debconf prompt for users

At the very least you should make sure the dpkg conffiles problem does
not occur when the user has selected the default answers to all the
debconf questions.

A better way would be to switch to ucf which is much more flexible than
dpkg conffiles handling.

Simply ignoring the bug is not an option.

Oh, that's interesting. Apparently you have an old /etc/manpath.conf:

  Starting pipeline: /bin/gzip -dc /var/cache/man/cat1/man.1.gz | exec
/usr/bin/less [input: 0, output: 0]

The new way man runs external commands (which is cleaner and less
vulnerable to security problems) can't handle the 'exec' there, and it
was removed from man's default pager command in man-db 2.4.3, but
apparently you had it in /etc/manpath.config (or perhaps ~/.manpath) as
well. To work around this problem, edit /etc/manpath.config and look for
a line like this:

  DEFINEpager exec /usr/bin/less

Remove the 'exec' from that line (or in fact you may just be able to put
a "#" at the start of the line to disable it and use the built-in
default) and try again.

man should handle this somehow without you having to change anything,
though. This message opens a bug in the Debian bug tracking system to
remind me to do something about it.

Thanks,

Bug#353960: denemo: playback button greyed out, need instructions on using "playmidi -a" to play MIDI files

2006-02-22 Thread Arthur Marsh
Package: denemo
Version: 0.7.4-2.1
Severity: normal

Hi, individual note playback works, but the playback button is greyed
out.

I have a SoundBlaster Live! card and "playmidi -a" on an external MIDI
file works fine, but I could not figure out from denemo's help how to
configure playback of the entered composition to work.

I do not have an orchestra file for csound - pointers to basic
information on getting csound to work would also be helpful.

Regards,

Arthur.

Bug#341138: License is free, actualy

2006-02-22 Thread Eddy Petrişor
Hello,

Quoting the DFSG:
"The license of a Debian component may not restrict any party from
selling or giving away the software as a component of an aggregate
software distribution containing programs from several different
sources. The license may not require a royalty or other fee for such
sale."

Please note: "may not restrict any party from selling or giving away
the software as *a component of an aggregate*"

In other words, the component should be soldable in an agregate and
there is no restriction/constraint related to it being sold by itself,
so this issue does not make the software non-free.

I don't think is there another way to understand DFSG 1 in this issue.

That makes some sense. But having DH_ALWAYS_EXCLUDE set in the
environment is surely even worse than having it in the rules file,
because it can affect builds in ways which are unreproducible on other
machines. See bug#352273 for an example of this.

I've removed this from devscripts debian/rules now.

See bug#352273 for an example of where there *was* a problem with a
package you built :)

Bug#352956: libclamav1: postinstall should restart clamd and freshclam

2006-02-22 Thread Calum Mackay

hi Stephen,

This one time, at band camp, Calum Mackay said:

funny :)

Imagine having to figure out all of the services running on a machine
that use a given library and restart them all. It is technically
possible of course, but it is non-trivial.

I wonder: in theory, we ought to easily be able to find any installed
pkgs that have a dependency on a given shared lib pkg, and then just
call their restart methods. But is there a generic way to restart
services provided by a pkg when you only know the name of the pkg?

In this particulare case, I also feel it's mostly a no-op, since the
packages for the daemons are also upgraded at the same time, in the most
common case, so it should take care of itself.

right, although for some reason not in this case? That might just have
been a side-effect of a failed download, or something.

no problem, feel free to close... :)

cheers,
c.

That's a nice idea, indeed.

If you are into the debhelper team or know anyone inside it, let them
know advertising their new major mode of operation would have been a
nice idea. People can't just read their minds and discover it. I myself
was astonished seeing its existance several months ago while reading the
man page.

Beside swapping to level 5 itself, it seems only debug package
management is affected, seems easy to fix. If Nohar or myself find some
spare time, we could make a small patch for it.

Since two days or so, electricsheep on my laptop only displays only
in part of the display. It's a little more than a quarter, but it
happens in preview and live mode. If zoom mode is turned on, the
animation is in the top left. If zoom mode is turned off, the
animation is centred.

Really, I have not done anything. I have updated to the new
electricsheep and Xorg when it came out, and that's both several
weeks ago.

I will now try a X restart and a reboot.

Hi,

Actually, a lot of other buttons don't work (not only in the menu):
in the Create New Session dialog, Test URL doesn't work (tkButtonEnter
.new.f.f.url.f0.b), at Step 4, check buttons (new.f.f.media.audio.b1 for
instance), In the Help dialog, Dismiss (help.f.dismiss), More Help
(help.f.f.about) and Balloon Help (help.f.f.mode).

Of course, since I cannot reach several dialogs, a lot of other buttons
probably don't work either.

I've forwarded your request upstream, they suggested that you check the
 tag is present with:
faad -i yourfile.m4a
 (if you have faad)

They also requested an excerpt of one of your file, for example the
first 500 kB as produced by:
head --bytes=500k foo.m4a > foo-header.m4a

Bug#353575: fetchmail: Invents envelope sender for mails received with null envelope sender

2006-02-22 Thread Matthias Andree
package fetchmail

thanks

Roger,

I can confirm the problem. There are some areas in fetchmail that do
not handle real NULL envelope senders properly, and the problem is
apparently not SDPS specific.

As a quick workaround, I am attaching a patch that is entirely
untested. Please apply to 6.3.2, recompile, reinstall and let me know if
the problem persists or is fixed.

(packager maintainers, I'm not tagging "patch" yet as I'm not sure if
it's the real patch or will change)

Thanks,

 The man page says:
The auth command controls the TELNET AUTHENTICATE protocol
option. If telnet was compiled without authentication, the
auth command will not be supported.
 [...]
Note that the current version of telnet does not support
 authentication.

Back when I read this man page, I thought "the telnet build can
probably be configured with or without support for auth; it was
configured without, but that's not documented in README.Debian".
However the truth is that the telnet command does not support auth at
all (see ./telnet/commands.cc). I have no idea why unsupported
commands are listed in the man page (I prefer they wouldn't be), but
now that I see clearer in this issue, I agree it is documented that it
is not supported ("telnet does not support authentication."), even if
 it's not quite clear.

Yes, it is documented, no it is not clear, but let us go on and close
this part of the bug. Feel free to remove that part of the man page
which I find confusing if you agree though. :)

I didn't mention encryption, and the man page does not mention .netrc,
it mentions .telnetrc, but it does not say that it is read exclusively.

I wish telnet would read ~/.netrc, perhaps upstream can be convinced to
do that so that people can configure a single file for hosts <->
accounts mappings. I've renamed by report accordingly.
If upstream says it can't be implemented, please tag this bug wontfix
so that other do not have to wonder why telnet does not read the .netrc
 file they created.

Too bad I've dropped them already, I should have sent them in the first
place, and I should have filed separate reports for the issues /
requests I had back then, but it was one of my first bug reports. If I
happen to find an archived copy, I'll happily resend it to you.

Bug#353965: imapfilter uses an extraordinary amount of CPU while performing cross server mail moving

2006-02-22 Thread Andrew Meaden
Package: imapfilter
Version: 1:1.1.1-1
Severity: normal

imapfilter utilises as much CPU as it can get its hands on while moving
email from one imap server (locally accessable via the loopback
interface) to a remote one. The process appears to correctly perform
it's job, and the bottleneck is still the upsteam speed of my internet
link; however for the duration of this upload, the process sits on 99.2%
CPU, only releasing some when anything else requires it.

This also causes the load on the machine to climb to 1 higher than it
started, and apart from causing relatively minor slowdowns elsewhere in
the machine, does not seem to impede the success of the imapfilter run.

If I lower my upstream rate by 75%, the process uses 400% more CPU time
(overall) to run. If I enable compression on the VPN link, the CPU time
required drops also, keeping the link between the process and the remote
IMAP server completely utilised.

Bug#333953: problem still exists in bash 3.1

2006-02-22 Thread Toni Mueller

Hello,

today I stumbled upon this behaviour, too. I have:

$ dpkg -l bash
...
ii bash 3.1-1 The GNU Bourne Again SHell

and

$ shopt|grep case
nocaseglob off
nocasematch off

but still get this stupid behaviour unless I set LC_COLLATE=C (as you
suggest). I'd be less discontent with this LUSER feature if there'd be
at least the semi-usual mixed-case matching (ie, ignore case if all
pattern elements are lower case, but obey it otherwise), but setting
these two options shown above should really be sufficient to prevent
automatic case folding. As a side note, automatic case folding does
_NOT_ improve usability because everything else in Unix and assorted
flavours is case-sensitive, thus this change only blurs the distinction
to Unix novices which will confuse them down the road when they end up
with files like "abc.txt" and "Abc.txt" and no way to recognize the
difference, much less differentiate them.

Thank you!

Best,

Bug#349354: Dependency loop makes upgrading Sarge -> Unstable very hard

2006-02-22 Thread Andrew McMillan
Hi,

This bug is a pain. I just had to upgrade a system from Sarge to
Unstable. Even though the system was installing a 2.6.15 kernel as part
of the dist-upgrade udev refused to install because the currently
running kernel was 2.6.8 (the Sarge default).

My workaround was to replace /bin/uname with a temporary script that
echoed "2.6.15", and that enabled me to get out of the loop, but it is a
very undesirable thing to have to do!

While I can see that someone could potentially end up with a non-working
system (although I'm not sure to what degree it might be non-working) by
upgrading udev and then rebooting to a < 2.6.12 kernel, but udev's
preinst check doesn't do that: it is testing what kernel I'm running
now, which is often a lot less relevant.

If we make the assumption that Joe Default will be running a kernel that
Debian installed, then we can reasonably expect that a pretty normal
situation will involve a kernel upgrade to meet the udev dependency,
along with the udev upgrade. Unfortunately the udev.preinst script
doesn't seem to make any effort to behave sanely in this situation.

Regards,
Andrew McMillan.

Bug#292231: Resolution of #292231 [Manpage of hasciicam]

2006-02-22 Thread Don Armstrong
Greetings; I NMUed hasciicam to fix an RC bug that was holding up a
package transition in Debian. In the process of making this NMU, I
discovered that the package contained a GFDLed manual which was
declared invariant in its entirety.

I'm not sure who is actually the holder of the copyright on this
manual, but I plan on requesting hasciicam's removal from the archive
within the next week unless this can be resolved, ideally by licensing
the manpage under the GPL or whatever license hasciicam is currently
under.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Christian: If you no longer have time to maintain this package (I
notice that you have multiple unack'ed NMUs) kindly indicate that it
has been orphaned by filing the appropriate bug against the wnpp
package.

Illegal encoding, explicitly prohibited by RFC 2047. Attachment
filenames have to use another encoding: RFC 2231. But you still can
persuade Mutt to decode this, by setting $rfc2047_parameters.

RFC violation should be reported to the sender software. What is it?
Microsoft Outlook [Express]?

I vaguely seem to recall from previous discussions that this is a
desired expansion.

Some sanitizing might be good, right. There is already bug #1719
opened upstream since a long time about "attachments with =names stored
in $folder by default". Clearly said: Fixing this seems not to be seen
as an absolute priority.

Do you want me to add you to the Notify-List of #1719?

Bug#353971: mysql-dfsg-5.0: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD

2006-02-22 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Package: mysql-dfsg-5.0
Version: 5.0.18
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Hi,

Since version 5.0.18, mysql-dfsg-5.0 fails to build from source on
GNU/kFreeBSD with the following error:

ERROR: versioned symbols are absent

It looks like versioned symbols are check for all architectures while
they are enable on GNU/Linux only.

Please find attached a patch that also enables it on GNU/kFreeBSD. I
think it would be even possible to enable it on GNU/* as it is the GNU
toolchain which supports versioned symbols, not the kernel. In that
case, just replace *linux* by *-gnu*. But it's up to you to decide.

Aurelien

Bug#353972: manpages-fr: in intro(1) howto reference is wrong

Package: manpages-fr

Hi,

In facts doc-linux-fr-text installs its files under the directory
/usr/share/doc/HOWTO/fr-txt/ and doc-linux-fr-html installs its
files under the directory /usr/share/doc/HOWTO/fr-html/

Ah. Well, at least that is an explanation. I stayed with 2.4 because 2.6.8
did not support SATA; but now 2.6.12 (as I use at the office) or newer seems
to. It would require a healthy amount of re-configuration, but I guess that
is what I should do.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Hmm, that's a pity. Could you check the output of "parted /dev/hdb print"
with the parted from that package, and the official one from Debian?

> Disk /dev/hdb: 120.0 GB, 120034123776 bytes

Perhaps the number of cylinders is the problem for parted. This doesn't fit
in 16 bit. I'm not sure if that is a problem, but on my system, the number is
much lower and the heads is 255.

Thanks,
Bas Wijnen

now that "#268418: PTS: Please make latest news pages have static URLs" is

who-uploads is broken (well, not entirely, there are old .html left around but
they'll be removed soon).
You can get a list of news by simply browsing

jeroen: I think it is possible to watch packages.qa.debian.org's log files after
removing old numbered html files to see how many scripts the change broke by
looking at 404s :)

Clicking on the tray icon causes the annoying habbit of showing the
playlist manager window at a different location than at the time of

Secondly, the 'playlist button' is always deselected after clicking the
tray icon, even when the playlist manager window is still visible.

Package: scponly
Severity: normal

When I use scponly in chroot mode, I can see with debug on that the scp
in the chroot is saying:

unknown user 1030

(or whatever the user is)

The user exists in /etc/passwd, /chroot_dir/etc/passwd.
I copied my entire /lib, /usr/lib, and /etc trees to the chroot dir with
cp -a.

sftp works fine. I don't know if this is a bug in scponly, scp, a
library or what.

Bug#353977: dspam: must start after database server

Package: dspam
Severity: important

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 2006-02-21 14:45 /etc/rc2.d/S20postgresql-8.1 ->

This makes dspam start before the postgres database server, which causes

guess libpoppler0c2 needs a Conflicts: libpoppler-glib (<< 0.4.5-3).

Bug#353979: munin-limits: cron job has --force option set, results in spurious emails

2006-02-22 Thread Steve Gran
Package: munin
Version: 1.2.3-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

I have recently set up multiple networks with munin (nice, by the way -
thank you) and one of the many things we are monitoring is entropy.
Since the entropy plugin doesn't have built in critical or warning
states, I have added a line like:

entropy.entropy.critical .001:
To each of my nodes entries, and added

contact.someuser.command mail -s "Munin notification" [EMAIL PROTECTED]
To the top of munin.conf.

This gets me an email when a node runs out of entropy, as it should.
Unfortunately, it also results in me getting a daily email about all of
the nodes entropy states, even when they are in the OK state. This
seems unreasonable to me.

Looking through the code, it seems to me that this is because --force is
set. I see no place in the code where foporce does anything reasonable,
so for now I have pulled it out of /etc/cron.d/munin. Is there some
reason it is enabled by default?

Thanks,

As I understand it xulrunner is intendend for XUL applications running
"inside" Gecko by the means of xulrunner. Liferea is a GTK application
coded in C with embeds a Gecko widget provided by libgtkmozembed.so.
Therefore using xulrunner would mean a complete rewrite and a
different implementation language.

Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Maybe because the title didn't describe the problem well; trying to fix
that. I'd also like to merge these bugs, but the severities don't match,
and I'm not sure which one is appropriate. What do the other XSF folks
think?

> Thats exactly the one, and removing DRI does fix it.

Good, but I'd recommend switching to a 2.6 kernel instead. :)

BTW, what version of the radeon DRM does the 2.4 kernel have?

dmesg|grep drm

should tell (after loading the radeon kernel module).

Bug#353870: No response and huge CPU usage on some completion(s)

2006-02-22 Thread Eugene Krivdyuk
> Does this still occur with 4.3.0-dev-5-1?

I don't see version 4.3.0-dev-5.1 in the pool.
Today I've updated my distro and current zsh version is 4.3.0-dev-4-3.

As I see nothing changed in this (4.3.0-dev-4-3) version. So I can wait
for 4.3.0-dev-5.1 and check it again.

This makes dspam start before the postgres database server, which causes
dspam to refuse to start.

hm, I experienced here the same situation, I put dspam on S21 and K21.
Will be uploaded shortly.

Emulators/games have been moved[1] from contrib to main after someone
has done free data files which are essentially "proof of concept"
in nature. I fail to see why availability of a CIPE driver for
ndiswrapper doesn't fall into the same category.

A requirement for main "must be usefull in a free software only
enviroinement" is the the beginning of the road to madness. Next
theill come for free clients for protocols that (currently) only
have non-free servers to connect to. Who the hell has the right to
define what is usefull anyway?

No. How would a program compiled from source know
which name the Debian package for jack has?

$ pkg-config --variable=libdir jack
/usr/lib

How would you proceed from there?

Maybe we could just add addondir to the jack.pc?

OTOH, I really dont think any serious jack user
has two versions running at the same time. But I see your
above point of course.

I am not talking about packaged software, I am talking
about a source tarball being installed by a user
on a debian system using jack.

initramfs-tools breaks the ramdisk generating policy, or more probably the
kernel or k-p generated scripts do so, so it is at least serious severity..

Bug#353983: eth* network interfaces change after install

2006-02-22 Thread Matthew Wilcox

Package: debian-installer
Version: 21-Feb-2006

Hardware: Fujitsu P7120 Lifebook

This model has an ieee1394 connector, so we autoload the eth1394 module
during the first boot, and this is loaded before the 8139too module
that drives the built-in ethernet connector. So eth1394 gets eth0 and
8139too gets eth1.

After rebooting, the modules are loaded in the opposite order, so 8139too
gets eth0 and eth1394 gets eth1. This means the configured networking
doesn't work automatically. You have to edit /etc/network/interfaces
to make it work.

Ahh, I've got rid of the 2.4, sorry about that.

A binNMU has been queued for this package on ia64, which is the only
architecture on ftp.debian.org that has this dependency on libglib2.0-cil
(<< 2.5.0). It still needs a rebuild on amd64, but only the amd64 buildd
admins can take care of that; downgrading this bug to important.
