Bug#268346: please apply the fix for this bug
Hi, I would like to ask why is this bug still open, as there is an easy fix. Right now I run fetchmail 6.3.4-1, and the bug is still present. In /etc/ppp/ip-up.d/fetchmail when the connection comes up, it executes try-restart, what doesn't work. If I replace it with start, it works. This is what Xavier wrote two years ago. I always have to replace it by hand whenever I upgrade the fetchmail package. I also remember that some years ago the same script has checked if fetchmail was already started, and if it was, it has called awaken, if it wasn't it has simply started it. I think this is the correct way to do things, but the simple start is much better than the current, broken script. And so far I haven't noticed any problems with it, even if I bring down my ppp link and then up again there is no problem with it. So, please, could you simply replace try-restart with start in the above mentioned file in the next version, and close this bug? Bug#367709: requesting libstdc++ .udeb in order to produce c++ based images based on d-i technology (but not d-i).
Raul Miller wrote: Have you talked to the di people about this issue? Have they raised any objections? If so, what are they? (We should get involved if you feel that they are making a choice which is technically incorrect and which you can't resolve directly.) I've had this discussion with Sven a few times on IRC and even though I'm not a particularly active d-i developer, I think I can help answer your questions. udebs are made for one particular purpose: supporting d-i. They're not made as a general small and stripped system approach. They're free to violate Debian policy (by not shipping documentation, eg), but they should support d-i. Having other packages packaged as udebs makes testing migration harder and can in some cases cause problems for the installer, such as needlessly installing udebs due to priority. The specific request here is not just for a udeb, but for introducing C++ into the realm of d-i. I think I can speak for the d-i team when I say that they don't even want to tempt people into writing code using C++ for d-i (due to space issues as well as symbol mangling issues, etc), so in the same way that a suggestion to include perl, python, ruby or lua udebs would be opposed, a request to include C++ udebs is opposed. I believe Sven would be better served by either using standard debs (and udebs, as appropriate) and mangling those, then put them into a firmware image or invent another format of debs-but-not-debs and use those as a basis for same. - tfheen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. This bug is not client dependant: Plus Linux VNC clients, I have tried UltraVNC, and Thight VNC Clients, and I encounter the same issue that is described in the bug : I log on trough VNC, the screen appears, and then after a few seconds (after a very few mouse mooves), the krfb server crashes. On my debian server, I have a drkonqui crash dialog box. What is strange is that for a few months after the bug appeared, I was connecting succesfully on my computer from another KDE VNC clients (mandrake 10, and another debian), but two months after even this solution was unsuccessfull (same crash). If needed I can check if this is still the case. I have an unstable debian with KDE 3.4.2. Bug#302417: licensing of jabber 1.4.4
Hey, I just downloaded the latest official 1.4.4 code from the upstream website, and found the following: of all .c and .h files, only ./jsm/modules/mod_groups.c (JOSL only) ./jabberd/lib/snprintf.c (apache license) ./jabberd/lib/sha.c(MPL) and ./jabberd/lib/jabberdlib.h (no license statement) are not also under GPLv2+ snprintf can probably be replaced easily, only mod_groups.c might be a problem. jabberdlib.h contains headers for various other files that are under JOSL/GPLv2+, e.g. jutil.c. All other files are not source files but can probably also be assumed to fall under the COPYING file which states JOSL/GPLv2+. As for snprintf, upstream would probably be willing to replace it seeing that they don't even comply with the license as far as I can tell (or do they advertise *This product includes software developed by the Apache Group *for use in the Apache HTTP server project (http://www.apache.org/). ?) Then, the only remaining problem is mod_groups.c as far as I can tell. I'm not sure if the MPL is GPL compatible but a GPL SHA implementation can easily be found. Does upstream even care about their licensing? johannes signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Bug#368172: classpath: Should conflict with current cacao and jamvm package
Package: classpath Version: 2:0.91-2 Severity: serious After updating classpath to version 0.91, cacao is unable to find any classes, and jamvm sometimes segfaults. I believe this is because of changes done in the Classpath-JVM interface, and that classpath because of this should conflict with the current versions of cacao (= 0.95-1) and jamvm (= 1.4.2-1). Here are two examples of the problems. This is using cacao to run openjump: % JAVACMD=/usr/bin/cacao JAVA_ARGS=-Dgnu.java.awt.peer.gtk.Graphics=Graphics2D -Xms256M -Xmx256M openjump Exception in thread main java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com.vividsolutions.jump.workbench.JUMPWorkbench not found in java.lang.ClassLoader$1{urls=[], parent=null} No stacktrace available % This is from using jamvm to run wordwind2d: % JAVA=jamvm -Xmx200M ./ww2d WW2D 0.99.87 by Vitaliy Pronkin [EMAIL PROTECTED] starting... ./ww2d: line 6: 29395 Segmentation fault $JAVA -jar WW2D.jar $@ % I will test again when new versions of cacao and jamvm make it into unstable, and report bugs against those packages if the problem still exist then. I report this bug against classpath as we should keep classpath out of Debian/testing until the new versions of jamvm and cacao are available, to make sure the versions in Debian/testing keep working. Setting severity to serious for the same reason, to make sure classpath do not enter testing before the conflicts are added. * Marc Haber: Please allow the local administrator to add comments to whitelist entries so that the reason for whitelisting can be documented _inside_ _the_ _whitelist_. I'm not sure if such a functionality would be really that useful. I've got multiple machines, and if I'm ignoring a vulnerability on one machine, I usually consider it unimportant on the others as well. They are e.g. named /etc/init.d/kolab-cyrus Yes we decided to change the name to always make sure that you are using it for kolab. We thought that there might be confusions when users need to use the same script for the normal and the kolab cyrus package. Therefore we always added the kolab- prefix, this also refleccts the package name. On the other hand one might argue, that the scripts should have the package names name to keep things clear. Maybe they help to package them. Well, why not. However, it's indeed up to the package maintainer to decide this. We cannot enforce anything... true ... true, i did not said anything ... just pointed out a solution ^ Hmm, not exactly. You did an interesting suggestion but, definitely this is up to the package maintainer to decide this. I'm currently very careful about the font package team (which still has to organize itself but I can't do everything people...:-))) not appearing has stealing all activities about font work. sorry if it seems that way. I think that not all, but most of the fonts should be under some group's attention (because there are many fonts lost out there and is hard to catch them in debian's repository). I am not trying to achieve that, but ( i sank in this bug, because the maintainer don't want any help) i saw that the bug was 4 months old, and i know that in one group is easily to divide work, and more work can be done that one person, so, i indicate the fonts group, not only for sponsorship, but also for some help on packaging because maybe he did not have the time ( of course i don't know if the group has time or not). So, i just mailed that bug, like others, as concerned debian user, for long time bugs (or ITP). I think fonts are not that hard to package (i think... maybe i am mistaken) and 4 month to package them is because, maybe, the bug submitter has no time, and i think any fonts are welcome to debian, so, i mailed pkg-fonts group. i reported this bug, as i reported 353006[1], as concerned user and i think other users would be pleased if those bugs were corrected. That bug had no feedback, like other bug in roxen4 ,305536 [2], by the same maintainer. Maybe i am being a little bit pain in the ass, but ... ok, i'll stop. I don't think you steal any font work, but could be co-maintainer or help some new font or font packages to come into debian. Users would be pleased. I know also that debian has lots of packages, but it's because of it that use debian. It's hard to manage ... ok, but for the user it's great. Anyway, thank you all for contributing for debian. Bug#368178: Contents-i386.gz missing on Debian 3.1 (Sarge) CD-ROMs
Package: cdimage.debian.org Version: N/A Debian Release: Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 Architecture: i386 Kernel: 2.6.8-2-k7 The file Contents-i386.gz is missing on the installation DVDs/CDs for the current Debian 3.1 release. This doesn't affect the installation of a new Debian system, however it is not possible to use apt-file to search through the contents of the package database. Example: During the installation process or later via apt-cdrom / apt-setup installation CDs can be added to the /etc/apt/sources.list.If apt-file is installed and run via apt-file update to initialize the package database for apt-file it will report an error message similar to the following: cp: cannot stat `/cdrom/dists/unstable/Contents-i386.gz': No such file or directory This happens because a) the file Contents-i386.gz is missing on the CDs/DVDs b) The entry in /etc/apt/sources.list is (incorrectly?) created with the component entry unstable instead of sarge via apt-cdrom/ apt-setup. Example: deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 r0a _Sarge_ - Official i386 Binary-1 (20050607)]/ unstable contrib main The only workaround I found for now is to remove the deb cdrom.. entry from /etc/apt/sources.list and to add an http/ftp installation source via apt-setup, then to run apt-file updateThe current testing version of Debian, Etch seems to have the same bug, the Contents-i386.gz is missing too. Please have a look if this can be fixed in Debian 3.1r3 and later. Thanks and kind regards Thorsten Schaefer -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? The current options are fine, but it would be nice to have more fine-grained control over output format. The current formats could be mapped into combination of output atoms, with the current definitions being defaults. That way, a local admin could define their own formats. Would XML output be acceptable? Based on that, you could use various other tools to transform the output to the format you need. For me, it would be unuseable, since I have not yet found the time to grok the various other tools yet. Bug#368196: xfmedia: crashes when switching workspace while in fullscreen mode
Package: xfmedia Version: 0.9.1-3 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer! I am runnning xfmedia and IceWM. When I play a video and press 'f' to get into fullscreen mode, xfmedia always crashes when I switch away from the current workspace, where I started xfmedia. This doesn't happen when I put xfmedia into fullscreen mode via Alt-F11 (standard IceWM feature). The error message I get on the console is: The program 'xfmedia' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'. (Details: serial 441 error_code 8 request_code 42 minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) I intend to get them applied upstream, I'm hoping you could be the one to do it since you are the maintainer of its package and are therefore a good guy. Thanks for the bugreport and patches. And sorry for the lack of response. I am applying the patches now, and they will be in next Debian package in Debian unstable (sid). For upstream inclusion I'd actually prefer if you would get in touch with them yourself. Both to properly get credited for your work, and also because you know better than me what you've done! As a sidenote: Are you interested in helping out maintaining the GD library for Debian? It does not rewuire you to become an official Debian developer (but is a plus if you choose to do so at a later time). Package: dia Version: 0.95.0-3 Severity: normal Tags: security patch CVE-2006-2480: Format string vulnerability in Dia 0.94 allows user-complicit attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via format string specifiers in a .bmp filename. Bug#367862: Interface problem with gmp (RC bug encountered)
On Sat, 2006-05-20 at 10:22 -0400, Steve M. Robbins wrote: Otherwise, it would help me if you could point out what part of gmp you believe has changed. In this bug report, the errors have to do with missing methods of obby::RSA::Key: [snip] Since you know the obby source better than I, maybe you could let me know what parts of gmp are implicated. For example, what is the type of obby::RSA::Key::set_n()'s argument after the rebuild? Well, no problem: The version currently in the archives provides set_n with the following signature (provides by objdump -T -C): obby::RSA::Key::set_n(__gmp_expr__gmpz_value, __gmpz_value const) The recompiled version has instead this one: obby::RSA::Key::set_n(__gmp_expr__mpz_struct [1], __mpz_struct [1] const) So the ABI changed and gmp's development packages need to be renamed, as we just use set_n(const mpz_class n) in the C++ source. We did not rely on internals. Do you agree with my observation? If so, should I file a RC bug against gmp for tracking-purposes? Bug#325877: Proposed Implmentation for mr_strtok()
Andree Leidenfrost said on Mon, May 15, 2006 at 11:05:10PM +1000: Salut Bruno, Halo Andree ! J'espère que tu as passé un bon week-end! Ya es war ganz gut hier auch ;-) Please find attached my suggestion for mr_strtok() which features the following improvements over strtok(): - thread-safety - input string remains unchanged - concise code Integrated in stable r557. Will be in 2.0.8. to me, no compiler warnings with '-Wall', but there are valgrind errors (see mr_strtok_demo.valgrind in attached tar ball) for both strspn() and strcspn() which may or may not be genuine but at any rate should be about bespoke functions rather than my use of them. Bug#368205: texmacs: please support TeXlive
Package: texmacs Version: 1:1.0.6-6 Severity: wishlist Hi, a new Tex distribution was added to Debian: Tex-Live. It would be great if your package supports it. To do so add an appropriate dependency rule. An alternatives of tetex-base | texlive-base and/or tetex-bin | texlive-base-bin would be enough, but check what your package really needs.
