You are on a powermac system, and as thus, you should have goten the default
reply of yaboot to the mkvmlinuz question. Please do a :

  dpkg-reconfigure mkvmlinuz

and make sure you chose yaboot and not mkvmlinuz.

Then, please add a set -x to the front of /etc/kernel/postrm.d/mkvmlinuz, and
do a :

  dpkg-reconfigure linux-image-2.6.16-2-powerpc

and send us the output of this. This should just notice that you have yaboot
configured, and skip any mkvmlinuz invocation, and this script has not really
changed since like forever, so i don't understand what went wrong here, apart
maybe some mis-detection of the subarch, which would have the system default
to mkvmlinuz instead of yaboot.

Bug#306933: evolution: ssl not working with smtp in 2.2.2-2

2006-05-29 Thread Øystein Gisnås
The bug http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=306933 might
have been fixed in the latest version of Evolution in Debian. The user
interface for choosing SSL encryption for SMTP has changed, so I suspect
the bug has been fixed. Can you confirm this?

Hmm, then it's not likely a configuration issue. Would be great if you
could try with the DRM from DRI CVS, see

Depends how hard the crash is. Would be interesting to know at any rate.
Even if it doesn't work, ctrl-option-power (IIRC, and don't want to
verify right now ;) might reset the machine slightly more gracefully.

Bug#366515: libnm_glib_nm_state_cb: dbus returned an error

2006-05-29 Thread Øystein Gisnås
I am not so sure the two warning messages are something to worry about.
I rather suspect there is some wrong logic when NetworkManager is not
used (correct fallback is to ignore it).

If you are able to reproduce the problem, could you see if evolution
automatically goes to offline mode just before or after the error
occurs? You can see that by looking at the icon in the lower left
corner.

2006-05-29 Thread Ian Zimmerman
Package: grep
Version: 2.5.1.ds2-5
Followup-For: Bug #362184

Please create a grep-doc nonfree package with the info file that was removed
from grep.

I understand that the grep package comes with a comprehensive manpage, but
the disadvantage of relying on the manpage is that it will inevitably get out
of sync with the program because upstream doesn't do manpages, at least not as
a priority.

I guess you could instead also m4_define TEST_INIT, so that it will not
take part in the requirement-diversion game. That should preserve the

Bug#369479: [BSP] implement debconf for the udev kernel-related upgrade procedure.

2006-05-29 Thread Sven Luther
Package: udev
Version: 0.092-2
Severity: serious
Tags: help
Justification: Policy 3.9.1

Marco: filing this bug after discussion with our RMs, so that it stands out in
the upcoming BSP, and someone sends you a patch implementing this idea that
neither you nor i have time to implement.

On sunday, i tried an upgrade from sarge to sid, and as thus hit the problem
with the udev/kernel/hal&co upgrade loop.

Currently this can be solved by touching a file which will bypass this
question, and the upgrade script fails with this message. This is ugly and
non-evident, and i passed the message altogether before first reading it
(especially as it was in the middle of a 700+ package upgrade).

I discussed this with Marco on irc, and he agreed that the right thing to do
would be to use a debconf question instead of the current bit. Furthermore,
policy mandates, for sarge already, that all user interaction be done using
debconf, so this is RC anyway.

So, the problem is that the new udev needs a kernel version 2.6.12 to be
running, and fails altogether for 2.4 kernels. When detecting a 2.4 kernel is
running, udev instaklls itself, but in disabled form. When detecting the sarge
2.6.8 kernel, udev refuses to install, and if you already had part of gnome
upgraded, you are left with a mess. More detail can be found in

Bug #349354: initramfs-tools - kernel -udev dependency loop

Now, the proposed solution would be to ask this question in a debconf dialog,
inform the user that he is running 2.6.8, and either abort (as is done now,
and which stays the default), or continous the upgrade and in this case inform
the user that he should make sure to install a 2.6.12 kernel or his system may
well end up being unbootable.

Marco, once the basic setup is in place, it would be best if you polished
those dialogs to your convenience, or something, or added some toughts to this
bug report, or discussed it with the BSPer directly or something.

Friendly,

Sven Luther

severity 357262 serious

I'm upgrading this to serious, as evince *seems* to be the only blocker
to get rid of libkpathsea3, which is according to Frank Küster a goal
for Etch, and this bug apparently got few attention for its benefit/cost
ratio.
I am not responsible at all for the removal of libkpathsea3. If RC
severity is problematic in any way, you shouldn't hesitate to downgrade
this bug.

Bug#369478: libasound2: Looking for non-existing files/dirs

2006-05-29 Thread Anders K. Madsen

Package: libasound2
Version: 1.0.11-6
Severity: critical

After upgrading to 1.0.11-6 everything having to do with sound started
failing hard. E.g. alsamixer:

$ alsamixer
ALSA lib control.c:816:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL default

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or
directory

strace revealed the following:
stat64("/home/jordi/svn/pkg-alsa/trunk/build-area/alsa-lib-1.0.11//share/alsa/alsa.conf",
0xaff1030c) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)

A temporary fix is to create the above path and put a symlink to
/usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf there. It worked for me at least...

Best,

I suspect (without checking) that this could be related to the utility
being PAMified. We currently don't use PAM for chpasswd in Debian and
we probably should do so as well for chgpasswd.

We're currently considering to re-enable PAM for all utilities,
without, however, using a PAM configuration file for each. We will
probably have all utilities use the same PAM configuration file than
passwd. But that's another story...

Well, the Debian base system can be installed from the first CD, so a
useful system can..:-)

However, downgrading the severity of this bug does not mean that it
won't be fixed. Indeed, I bet that it will be fixed...mostly because
we certainly cannot release Debian etch (which will fit on something
like 15 or more CD's) without it to use all its CD's

PQescapeString is deprecated because given its interface, the security
bug cannot be closed completely. You really should use
PQescapeStringConn.

Thanks for the reminder, sorry that I forgot that. However, this is
just necessary if the application uses several postmaster connections
concurrently. With a single connection (which should be the usual
case) PQescapeString() and PQescapeBytea() will do the right thing.

I'd be happy if you would change this throughout.

This isn't strictly correct. It is something more like "strings
describing those addresses. Backtrace() tries to work out which
function contains each address.

Please read the info pages for these functions, and page 48 of
http://people.redhat.com/~drepper/tut1.ps. Have you covered all the
relevant material that those sources cover.

"stacktrace" is not English. Better to write sth like "then there was
sufficient space to store all addresses"...

Have you verified that last line?

And "least-recently called" is not good wording; how about "the
addresses corresponding to the oldest stack frames"

But the above paragraph is less informative than the "info" page.

It is not just static -- it is anything that prevents symbol names being
exported. E.g., linker maps can do this. Better to write sth like "If
a function name is not exported (e.g., it is marked \fIstatic\fP), then
that name will not be visible in the traceback."

Avoid double negatives.

Can't you just try to force it? OK, I know changes between neon 0.25
and 0.26 are somewhat big, but maybe. The problem is that the neon 0.24
to 0.25 transition is not yet completed. So I don't want to make things
even more worse. Also, I don't know how bigger dependent packages like
openoffice.org or subversion behaves with neon 0.26. OK, the latter is
surely a no-go, so I don't think neon 0.26 will hit Etch. :-|

I try to do my best and it's a bit fun too. I am glad that it works
well for you.

I'm not sure if it's related to this, but on another, pretty similar
system I did the upgrade and got the same errors. When I try to boot
now I get
Begin: Running /scripts/local-top
Error returned from evms_open_engine(): No such file or directory.
Done.
Begin: Waiting for root file system... ...
Done.
ALERT: /dev/evms/Root does not exist. Dropping to shell!

I use grub. I haven't rebooted the original system since running into
the upgrade problem of my original report. Given this glitch, I think
I'll try to avoid a reboot. Both systems have 2.6.15 kernels with an
all EVMS file system and initramfs.

Bug#369476: libgphoto2-2: new version of *something* stops group being set to "camera"

2006-05-29 Thread Arthur Marsh
Package: libgphoto2-2
Version: 2.1.6-12
Severity: important

gthumb had been working happily until sometime after 23 May 2006 when
some upgrade or other stopped the running of the script that sets the
permissions on the file created when my Canon Ixus v camera is plugged
in via USB.

I have found it difficult to debug since I do not know how to find out what
is being done by "udev_run_hotplugd usb" and what is being done by
"udev_run_devd usb", and why /etc/hotplug/usb/libgphoto2 is not
apparently being run and in any case is not setting the groups of the
created files to "camera" so that gthumb can access the camera.

Turning on debugging in udev reveals:

Can you suggest how to debug the failure of udev to cause the running of
the libgphoto2 script to change the permissions of the /dev/bus/usb
and/or /proc/bus/usb file(s) needed by gthumb?

Regards...

If the plan is for the installer to complete the installation before the
system is rebooted from the HD for the first time, then the bug is
serious. A useful system cannot be installed from the first CD only,
remembering that the subsequent discs cannot be scanned and so accessed
at this stage because of this bug.

If however, it is planned to complete the installation after rebooting
from the the HD for the first time, then this bug is wishlist and some
work needs to be done with tasksel so it picks up the newly scanned CDs.

Bug#195557: Adding my 2C

2006-05-29 Thread Jose Parrella
I don't think it would be neat to have the installation scripts to
autodetect a Web server and install the CGI if it proceeds.

I agree in the fact that squidguard is independent of Webservers. I have
several cases where this behaviour would be unuseful (for example,
servers with Cherokee, making it hard to implement the virtual hosting,
or servers with Apache2 serving heavyweight webpages AND squid where the
CGI would be useless)

Just my 2 cents,
Jose

This is completely false. Although the original reporter may have been
using Python 2.4 causing his pygst to be missing, Quod Libet makes no
use of D-BUS, and its lack will not cause QL to stop functioning.

Bug#147187: xdelta hack

2006-05-29 Thread Albert Cahalan

The real fix is to not depend on the contents of the file
to determine the size of a static memory allocation; but
there may be some security implications to be considered
here before making that change.

I'd say the opposite is true. This sounds like a whopping
big security hole as it is right now. Dear my... what if I
had the file request 0x7654321, or 0xfee15bad ?
(consider both signed and unsigned integer overflow)

The quick hack is probably to multiply the allocations
by 2. You could use sizeof(void*)/sizeof(int) if you like.

Bug#369470: openoffice.org-calc: Inserting a chart is extremely slow

2006-05-29 Thread Ian McDonald
Package: openoffice.org-calc
Version: 2.0.2-3
Severity: normal

When inserting a chart the performance is extremely slow. For example on
my machine (Pentium 4 1.2 GHz) to insert a chart with one column of 100
numbers takes about 20 seconds. I give up when there is 1000 numbers. To
reproduce just put numbers in one column, select those numbers, do
insert chart and just select all the defaults.

You are right, Stefan. I thought that sarge did not release the new
ntfsprogs...

In the upcoming ntfsprogs 1.13.0 I will remove it entirely.

Thank for your bug report. Best regards,

Bug#332768: apt-cacher: falls if used in conjunction with apt-listbugs

2006-05-29 Thread Luis Rodrigo Gallardo Cruz
The bug lies in the interaction of both packages.

apt-listbugs, very sensibly, uses apt's configured http cache to try
to access the bts.

apt-cacher, very sensibly, refuses to serve such request.

The whole thing interacts badly with apt-listbugs' inability to parse
error responses (#245232) and to fail sensibly on the face of too many
errors (#259753)

A workaround is to use apt-cacher not in proxy mode, but by modifying
sources.list

Bug#369465: backuppc: incremental backups don't work properly with localhost.pl

2006-05-29 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: backuppc
Version: 2.1.2-4
Severity: normal

Hi,

using the supplied config.pl and localhost.pl does not result in proper
incremental backups (they are not really incremental) because of the
following error message from tar:

Running: /usr/bin/env LC_ALL=C /bin/tar -c -v -f - -C /etc --totals
--newer=2006-05-18\ 01:50:22 .
Xfer PIDs are now 8161,8160
/bin/tar: Substituting 1901-12-13 21:45:52 for unknown date format
`2006-05-18\\ 01:50:22'

This is caused by the additional escaping needed for remote backups (via
ssh, as configured in the default config.pl).
Since localhost.pl overwrites $Conf{TarClientCmd} to run locally, the
same should be done with $Conf{TarFullArgs} and $Conf{TarIncrArgs}.
I fixed this locally by adding the following lines to localhost.pl:

# remove extra shell escapes ($fileList+ etc.) that are
# needed for remote backups but may break local ones
$Conf{TarFullArgs} = '$fileList';
$Conf{TarIncrArgs} = '--newer=$incrDate $fileList';

BTW, the incremental backups created with $Conf{XferMethod} = 'tar' are
not timezone safe, i.e. if server and client use different timezone
values, the start time for the incremental backup requested by the
server is in the server's local timezone (without specifying it)
but the client will interpret it as if it were in it's local timezone.
Best would be to use an UTC timestamp for the --newer=... parameter.

Bug#369466: backuppc: some statistics variables are not initialized

2006-05-29 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: backuppc
Version: 2.1.2-4
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

Hi,

some variables that are used for transfer statistics are not properly
initialized and result in incomplete messages if the counters are never
incremented. This seems to affect the tar and samba transfer methods,
the initialization code in my patch was copied from the rsync code.

An example status line:
incr backup 694 complete, 4104 files, bytes, 54 xferErrs ( bad files, bad
shares, 54 other)
  ^^ ^
There are three zeroes missing.

The reported 0 bytes seem to be another bug.

Bug#369469: libasound2: invalid datadir path - alsa.conf not found

2006-05-29 Thread Robin Gareus
Package: libasound2
Version: 1.0.11-6
Severity: important

/usr/lib/libasound.so.2.0.0 is compiled with
datadir=/home/jordi/svn/pkg-alsa/trunk/build-area/alsa-lib-1.0.11/${prefix}/share/alsa

libasound2 searches for alsa.conf in the build-dir rather than /usr/share/alsa/
- thus alsa apps fail to work until I create /usr/share/alsa as /home/jordi/...
or set the ALSA_CONFIG_PATH enviroment variable.

adding --datadir=/usr/share to the configure lines in debian/rules and
rebuilding libasound2 helped me out.

-robin

alsa-lib-1.0.11/configure.in:65 says:

eval dir="$datadir"
case "$dir" in
/*) ;;
*) dir="$PWD/$dir"

\${prefix} is not replaced (maybe due to 40_relibtoolise.dpatch ??).
datadir starts with '$' instead of '/' -> pwd is prepended and
 '..${prefix}..' ends up in include/config.h and bibuild/include/config.h

Bug#369464: backuppc: update Suggests:

2006-05-29 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: backuppc
Version: 2.1.2-4
Severity: normal

Hi,

the debian backuppc package
* 'Suggests: ssh' which is a transitional package and should most probably
replaced by 'openssh-client' or 'openssh-client | ssh-client'
* 'Suggests: libfile-rsyncp-perl (>= 0.50)' but
/usr/share/backuppc/lib/BackupPC/Xfer/Rsync.pm checks for 0.52 or newer,
so the versioned dependency should be bumped.

For some reason the example program I sent hangs (forever?) when
niterations is either 2 or 10:

15017 pryzbyj 25 0 1624 396 328 R 93.9 0.3 31:54.35 bt

I also opened bug #368459 against libc6, since valgrind complains
about invalid reads and use of uninit values; this might just be
because backtracing does unportable things that might generally be
undefined. If so, it is IMO still a (minor) bug, and libc6 or
valgrind should include relevant supressions or whatever is needed to
make it quiet.

If fragroute is broken in stable, then a sourceful upload is needed for
unstable first, because otherwise any sourceful upload to
stable-proposed-updates will fail the version checks.

So if there is any intention of fixing the broken fragroute package in
stable, please upload to unstable first, rather than having redundant
binNMUs that will just be superseded.

Bug#351183: another vote for mdadm --assemble --run

2006-05-29 Thread Brendan Cully
My box lost one of its raid 5 drives the other day. When I rebooted, I
found that I couldn't mount my root filesystem because of that missing
drive, even though it should have happily assembled in degraded
mode. I had to boot from a rescue disk and reassemble the drive from
there (which took hours).

It would have been much more friendly of the initrd to allow the md
device to assemble in degraded mode. I don't think it would be any
less safe either.

So I vote heartily to add --run to the yaird mdadm template. Patch
attached for your convenience.

2.4 kernels need to be supported in etch for upgrade purposes, so I think
we need to be undefining HAVE_EPOLL here.

Bug#369311: recoverjpeg loses 28899 to 58512 bytes

2006-05-29 Thread Samuel Tardieu
I ran some simple tests on your 58512.jpg image using recoverjpeg. It is
true that the reconstructed image is lacking 58512 bytes, but:

  - pictures are identical (a conversion from both pictures to PNG do
not have a single different pixel)

  - exif data is *exactly the same* (attached to this mail) except the
filename

What other data could you be missing? recoverjpeg reconstructs the image
by looking at the JPEG structure; if your MAXXUM 5D is adding
proprietary information at the end of the JPEG file (which is possible
given that a JPEG parser will stop at the end of the picture) there is
nothing I can do for this data :)

Bug#369463: irssi: nick completion does not happen after non-ascii characters

Package: irssi
Version: 0.8.10-2

Hi,

I've noticed the following buggy behavior in irssi: when completing with
TAB a nick in the middle of a line, irssi does nothing if the previous
text in the line contains a non-ascii character. For example:

  [#channel] foo d

would produce:

  [#channel] foo dato

but in:

  [#channel] fóo d

the pressed does nothing. Note however that:

  [#channel] fóo da

does complete the nick.

Thanks,

I'll narrow down the rest tomorrow (too late now .. :)

doing so far after these crashes?

Unfortunately not as far as i know. Haven't had the time to track it down
further, sorry...

Imho the report can be downgraded to important (only one person seems to get
the crash).

Note that the area where the crash seems to occur hasn't changed between
the unstable and testing version. So it won't introduce breackage in testing
that isn't already there.

What do you think ?

Bug#358825: libwhisker bug

2006-05-29 Thread James Westby

reassign 358825 libwhisker-perl
thanks nice robot

Hello libwhisker, this report is being passed on again, but with some
useful information for you.

I have tracked this problem down to a bug in libwhisker, I'll explain
why I think it's in libwhisker.

There was a change in openssl a few years ago to change the way that
callbacks are set up for temporary keys. This can be seen at
http://cvs.openssl.org/chngview?cn=2005

This change is what causes the error message shown earlier, but whisker
does a poor job of dealing with this and so creates a distraction. The
error message is emitted when ssl3_ctrl is called with
SSL_CTRL_SET_TMP_DH_CB (6).

In the rest of this mail I am describing /usr/share/perl5/LW.pm.

At first it appears as though it is in the call to
Net::SSLeay::ssl_write_all on line 3109 that causes the problem as this
is where the error message is printed and the errors cause the program
to fail. I spent a while looking for an openssl bug that caused the
offending function to be called when writing data, but couldn't see it.

Then looking at Net::SSLeay for problems I checked the status of the
error structure before the write was made, and it still showed the error
message. So looking at the whisker code I noted that there are lots of
Net::SSLeay functions used in LW::http_do_request_ex that do not check
for errors. As they are xs wrappers in Net::SSLeay they do not provide
the same error checking as the Net::SSLeay::ssl_write_all that shows the
error.

Looking at the functions that it calls shows that it calls
Net::SSLeay::ctrl($$Z[4],6,0,''); on 2538 which will trigger the error.

This only triggers the error when using SSLv3 (and maybe TLS, I didn't
check) but not SSLv2, so maybe this gives some indication of how the bug
stayed hidden.

It is not clear to me why this function is being called, especially as
it seems to set a null callback. I couldn't find a public VCS to try and
find where the code was introduced.

Simply commenting out the line appears to solve this problem, but I
haven't really tested it. Another thing that works is inserting
Net::SSLeay::print_errs(); after this line, which swallows the error
before the write chokes on it. It might be better to check for errors
and handle them accordingly. Also the return value isn't checked, and this
appears to indicate whether there was an error.

It might be necessary to wrap all Net::SSLeay functions in this check so
that errors are caught at source to make bugs less obscure.

Feel free to contact me if you would like any more information.

James

You know when using the $@ in a function, then it is not the arguments from the
program we get..
But we can provide the argument from the program to the function as argument.
run_asterisk "$@" &

+ run_asterisk -rx 'stop now'
+ :
+ '[' tty9 '!=' '' ']'
+ cd /tmp
+ stty sane
+ /usr/sbin/asterisk -rx 'stop now' -vvvg -c
+ echo -n asterisk
asterisk+ '[' yes = yes ']'
+ start-stop-daemon --quiet --oknodo --stop --exec /usr/sbin/safe_asterisk
+ start-stop-daemon --stop --quiet --oknodo --retry=0/2/TERM/2/KILL/5 --exec
/usr/sbin/safe_asterisk
+ echo .
.
+ exit 0
fs1-blg:/etc/init.d# + EXITSTATUS=0
+ echo 'Asterisk ended with exit status 0'
Asterisk ended with exit status 0
+ '[' 0 = 0 ']'
+ echo 'Asterisk shutdown normally.'
Asterisk shutdown normally.
+ exit 0

It gets shutdown but..

+ EXITSTATUS=141
The shutdown command.. in a loop.

So why make it so hard and not use the same shutdown as non safe?
See my /etc/init.d/asterisk above
Is there a problem using $DAEMON instead of $REALDAEMON?
Remember $REALDAEMON is not the realdaemon asterisk but the the safe_wrapper
for some strange reason.

Also please try patches before posting and submitting..

I would be interested in helping with this package if you agree.

I have had an initial look and it does look difficult with lots of
pitfalls.

Could you let me know when you have a version together and I'll take a look.

BTW, what's your opinion with metasploit v3.0?

I think the license will have to go to debian-legal, I might do this in
a week or so. I think the two versions should be packaged separately if
they are both to be in.

What do you think of setting up a metasploit alioth group to handle
these packages?

Bug#369122: manpages-dev: getsubopt; please provide documentation

2006-05-29 Thread Michael Kerrisk
Justin,

I feel this page could be improved further. Please:

* read "man 3p getsubopt" and "info getsubopt". Make your
  terminology consistent with them (epsecially the 3p doc;
  e.g., use "token" and "value")

* send me a test program that you've used to verify
how getsubopt works. (Don't worry about including it
in the man page -- I may do that later.)

"commandline" is not correct; "command-line"

I prefer that you use the ".BI" style for
prototypes (see fcntl.2); please change this.

I wouldn't describe things in terms of mount(1) -- that command
is merely an example. Write it more generally, and then (maybe)
cite mount(1) as an example.

In fact I prefer the ".B/.I" approach generally; thus

.I optionp

Please don't format "NULL".

As noted for another of your pages, "stores to" isn't good grammer;

Better: "store the address of that string in *valuep"

Bug#369405: kdrill: exits immediately with "Warning: Unable to load any usable ISO8859 font\nError: Aborting: no font fond"

2006-05-29 Thread The Wanderer

Okay, I figured it out. This is indeed not a bug in kdrill; it is yet
another problem with the xorg transition to 7.x, in that the symlink
/usr/lib/X11/fonts was not updated to point to /usr/share/fonts/X11
rather than the old location of /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ (IIRC, I had
to move or copy or some such fonts from the old location to the new to
fix an unrelated problem); changing the symlink by hand fixed the
problem.

Feel free to mark the bug as done (since I presume I can't do it myself,
and see no way to try anyway); the symlink issue probably does need to
be dealt with somewhere, but this is not the correct place to do it.

Bug#368467: sun-java5-plugin: amd64 support

2006-05-29 Thread Tom Marble
We realize that this is important as demonstrated by the fact
that this is RFE# 4 for Java [4].

The original bug has the background information [1] and
we now have tracking bugs in Debian [2] and the
jdk-distros project [3].

What would be helpful is to document best practices
for the "install 32-bit plugin in a chroot environment"
even though it is a hack.

Similarly helpful would be proposals on how to leverage
BiArch or MultiArch to install the 32-bit client software [5]
on an amd64 system.

The complete fix, of course, will depend on native amd64
binaries of the client software (and corresponding browsers).

Package: alsa-base

Hi,

after this week's upgrade of packages on Unstable, sound in XMMS,
mplayer stopped to work. In mpg321 it works, because it fallbacks to
/dev/dsp, which seems not to be affected.

It seems like some wrong hardoded path to alsa.conf. Here is strace

Package: libc6
Version: 2.3.6-7

Attempting to use any of the ucontext family of functions --- makecontext,
setcontext, getcontext, swapcontext --- produces the following link-time error:

makecontext is not implemented and will always fail

It's right; it does.

I realise they're a bit exotic, but they *are* specified in the standard, and
more to the point my program requires them (for a coroutines implementation).
Said program was developed on i386 and works fine there. I currently don't
have any workarounds.

Is this worth doing anything about in Debian, or should it be referred upstream?

Oddly, no. I would've thought it would be saved in my sent mailbox,
but I can't find it. I have the email where you asked me to write
it, but not my reply. How annoying!

  http://www.feedparser.org/docs/(for the doc)

Many thanks in advance,

Bug#367562: Please make dependency on sun-java5-demo optional

2006-05-29 Thread Tom Marble

Alessandro Polverini is correct. We intend to loosen this restriction which
is currently part of the README [1] in the DLJ bundle for 1.5.0_06.

As soon as allowed by the license then the control file can be
changed to make the demos/ and samples/ subdirectories optional.
The packaging has been made separate in anticipation of this
forthcoming flexibility.

Just a heads-up; things are not as simple as I'd hoped. I've spent
several hours today trying to get old behaviour back, and so far it's
not working...

I can reproduce this both from the Debian package and from a recompile
using the configure options in the Debian package. Oddly, it doesn't
happen with my normal build. Comparing the two, I have a hunch it's
this option (will verify):

Bug#367593: OOo problem also affects me and does not seem to be solveable by /etc/font/font.conf

2006-05-29 Thread Gunter Ohrner
Hi!

I also see the blurry fonts in OOo. I did not configure subpixel AA, this
problem also seems to happen with standard glyph smoothing.

I was able to solve KDE's font rendering using kcontrol (setting "hinting
style" to "full") and GTK's font rendering using the font.conf-change
suggested in this report.
However, OOo does not seem to respect this setting, even the Vera / DejaVu
fonts look blurry if smoothed which never happened before.

Regardless of the outcome of this bug report, libfreetype's default
configuration settings should be adjusted to produce correctly rendered
smoothed fonts by default in any case - if someone intentionally wishes
to get blurry unsharp fonts, he should configure this explicitely, not
the other way around...

Greetings,

  Gunter

Bug#369448: linux-image-2.6.16-2-powerpc: package fails to install

2006-05-29 Thread Michael Furr
Package: linux-image-2.6.16-2-powerpc
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I recently started booting my TiBook into linux again after not using it
for a while. It was running 2.6.8 and after running into the well-known
udev problems, I now have a self built 2.6.16 kernel and the lastest udev
running. However, when I now try to install the stock Debian kernel, it
fails:

I've tried looking through the preinst, but I'm not sure what is going
wrong since there isn't much in the way of an error message. Since it
seems to start by setting up the initrd, I tried both initramfs-tools and
yaird (after setting the ramdisk option in /etc/kernel-img.conf) just in
case. However, I still get the same error.

Any ideas?
