Bug#383865: linux-source-2.6.17: crash: hostap_cs & orinoco_cs both loading for same card?

2006-08-19 Thread clayton
Package: linux-source-2.6.17
Version: 2.6.17-6
Severity: normal

I have a wireless PCMCIA card that works fine on another machine using kernel 2.
6.16/hotplug, but locks this machine up hard every time using 2.6.16 and 2.6.17
and udev (requires power down and reboot). Crash occurs both on card insertion a
nd on boot with card already inserted.

On the machine where the card works:
cardctl ident:

On the machine that crashes, normally there is nothing interesting written to th
e logs after I reboot. However, syslog tails sometimes show a few lines at crash
 time:

syslog tail showed this one time on crash (2.6.16 or 2.6.17, not sure):
kernel: pccard: PCMCIA card inserted into slot 0

another syslog tail (kernel 2.6.17):
kernel: pccard: PCMCIA card inserted into slot 0
kernel: pcmcia: registering new device pcmcia0.0
kernel: orinoco 0.15rc3 (David Gibson.

And one time I swear I saw what looked like orinoco_cs and hostap_cs loading at
same time, which I am thinking might be the problem?

Bug#383555: udev/initramfs-tools/...

2006-08-19 Thread Osamu Aoki
I also suffered this boot problem.

Thanks to (not so well documented) feature in update-initramfs, postinst
of udev only updates the latest kernel. Thus I was able to boot with
older kernel.

The latest initramfs-tools seems to solved the issue for booting and
starting with latest udev.

If anyone is reruning to create initramfs, please do following:
(I am assuming few kernels to be there.)

1. Boot with older kernel (like 2.6.16 ones)
2. Install latest unstable versions of packages
initramfs-tools 0.75 tools for generating an initramfs
3. run "update-initramfs -u" to get the latest kernel initramfs updated.
4. Reboot to confirm the latest kernel works.
5. If there is other kernel which suffered the same issue, run
"update-initramfs -k all -u" and hope all kernels to work fine.

This manual update is needed since udev.postinst has only
"update-initramfs -u" which only works on the latest kernel version.

Bug#382590: debian-installer: sparc testing images missing 32-bit isofs

reassign 382590 linux-kernel-di-sparc-2.6

Indeed, the isofs kernel module is not included in any of the kernel
udebs. In kernel-wedge it is included in ide-modules, and that's how it is
normally pulled in. On sparc32 we are not building ide-modules udeb,
so isofs is not available. I plan to include it explicitly in
cdrom-core-modules udeb in the next l-k-di-sparc-2.6 upload.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for that.

Last week I got 0.5 building properly for the first time (I've had
problems with it in the past) so I'm aiming to do a 0.5 package soon.

Cheers :-)

Bug#382830: Building Nvidia-kernel-legacy-modules.

2006-08-19 Thread Andrew Vaughan
Hi

I am using the latest sid nvidia-legacy packages with kernel 2.6.16-2-686
and 2.6.16-2-486 in etch. I am not using module assistant, instead I built
using Method #1 in /usr/share/doc/nvidia-kernel-legacy-source/README.Debian

Possible that the module-assistant method is broken, it's also possible that
the differences between 2.6.16-1-k7 and 2.6.16-2-686 are sufficent to break
the package.

Could you please test build the modules using Method #1 in
/usr/share/doc/nvidia-kernel-legacy-source/README.Debian.

If that fails, it might also be worth testing with the debian 2.6.16-2-k7
kernel to see if the differences between 2.6.16-1 and 2.6.16-2 are
significant.

Note due to a missing fix in x86 due to bug 383860 you may need
run /sbin/update-modules.

HTH
Andrew V.

Bug#383862: netapplet: netapplet leaks memory

2006-08-19 Thread hackerb9
Package: netapplet
Version: 1.0.8-1
Severity: normal

Gnome netapplet-1.0.8 constantly leaks memory. On my PowerPC-333, it
leaks, on average, one kilobyte per second. When I have a wireless
card plugged in, the increase in memory usage corresponds with stdout
from netapplet such as the following:

Got Bulldogs 0.306581 1
Got linksys 0.509220 0
Got NETGEAR 0.613162 1
Got linksys 0.485919 0

I believe that the unfreed mallocs may be occuring whenever the
network is scanned. Note that netapplet still leaks memory even
without a wireless card, it just doesn't say anything on stdout.

It is very simple to reproduce this bug. Run netapplet and watch the
RSS memory steadily increase without bound. Here's a little script to
help you to do that:

#!/bin/sh
# watchleak: every second, print how much the netapplet process has grown

PID=$(pgrep netapplet)

ORIGINAL=$(( $(cut -f2 -d' ' /proc/$PID/statm) * 4))
sleep 1

while :;
do
  SIZE=$(( $(cut -f2 -d' ' /proc/$PID/statm) * 4))
  echo $(( SIZE - ORIGINAL )) kB
  sleep 1
done | cat -n

Bug#360281: initramfs-tools: Fix for "update-initramfs -k all -u|-c|-d" and manpage

2006-08-19 Thread Osamu Aoki
tags 360281 patch
thanks

Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.75
Followup-For: Bug #360281

I saw few problems on update-initramfs command.

   http://bugs.debian.org/360281
   http://bugs.debian.org/383600

The current update-initramfs impliment -k all only for -u option while
help message of the command gives wrong impression.

There is no mention of all in manpage.

Manpage does not document current Debian default behavior for -k version.

(I agree that update-initramfs does not to update for all kernels unless
manually executed. I had issues with 0.74 but I could boot system with
older untouched kernel. Conservative is good move.)

So here is my suggestion for fix. I just moved "all" processing outside
of "update" while ensuring all additional options will be processed
properly and also added extra verbose line for the start of kernel version
iteration to give better output. Now "all" iteration properly preserve
all valid options :-)

I hope this patch helps.

(I actually did not test this for -d. Just tested for -c and -u. Also
I tested -v option too.)

(I kept FIXME line since this is part of moved lines.)

If I remove the card, my machine hangs hard.

It is possible that my 1GB card was really 0.99GB or something.
It also works with a 512MB card of the same brand than the 2GB card.

Has anyone found any info on how to handle this problem?

Thanks
Marc

Bug#383673: hdaps-utils: A daemon to auto-park the hard disk sounds like the next step

2006-08-19 Thread Murillo Bernardes

Hi,

The parking daemon depends on kernel patches that are far from stable,
so use it just if you want to help on testing.

On 8/18/06, Sukant Hajra <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

Hi,

The two apps in this package are kind of just wrappers around the sysfs
interface. We're not exactly being true to the HDAPS acronym until we
have some protection too.

I was just on the ThinkWiki site ,
where there's a link to an hdaps daemon
 that presumeably parks the hard
disk.

I haven't tried it out yet, nor do I know if it's the best solution.
But it's a start. What concerns me is that this code doesn't have a
formal maintainer. If it (or something like it) were included in a
Debian package, I think the application would have the kind of
developer/community relationship I'd prefer with something like this.

Bug#383835: The package seems usable

2006-08-19 Thread Maximiliano Curia
Hello,

Why do you consider this package unusable? I'm testing it and it seems to work
fine.

Please notice that the directory that you mention is not needed in the actual
version, and I believe it's a bug: the directory should not be in the
package.

In Debian, the python modules are now managed by the python-support package,
you can see the python files of this particular package
in /usr/share/python-support/gnome-osd, and the compiled version of those
in /var/lib/python-support/python2.4.

Bug#383860: x86 binary packages built from pre-release source package

2006-08-19 Thread Andrew Vaughan
Package: nvidia-graphics-drivers-legacy
Version: 1.0.7182-1
Severity: serious

Hi Donald

The x86 binary packages aren't built from the uploaded source package.

They appear to have been built from a pre-release version of the package
that was available for testing before the final version was uploaded.

This can be easily seen by comparing the changelog of in the source and
binary packages.

The AMD binary packages don't appear to be affected.

Cheers
Andrew V.

Bug#383857: cron: Cronjobs shouldn't be run with CWD=/root

2006-08-19 Thread Erich Schubert
Package: cron
Version: 3.0pl1-97
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

The included cronjobs, especially the run-parts from /etc/crontab
shouldn't be run with the starting directory of /root

perl -npi~ -e 's%run-parts% cd / && run-parts%' /etc/crontab

should be sufficient for /etc/crontab; the other included cronjobs can
be modified accordingly.

Rationale: SELinux logs unallowed access attempts to /root for security
reasons. Since these scripts don't need access there they shouldn't
accidentially access it. Maybe setting HOME=/tmp/cron or something like
that is even better.

Bug#382260: Intent to NMU

2006-08-19 Thread Margarita Manterola
tags 382260 pending
thanks

I submitted this bug 10 days ago, and sablevm has been failing in hppa for
193 days now. Therefore, I'm going to upload an NMU that includes the
ffitarget.h as suggested.

While preparing the NMU, I found out that many files were not being cleaned
up and therefore ended up in the .diff.gz, so I took the opportunity to fix
this.

Therefore, the .diff.gz is much smaller now. I'm attaching the full
diff.gz file, and the diff with the changes that I made to the source
package.

I also modified debian/rules a little bit, so that the LGPL-2.1 is not
installed unnecesarilly, and a symlink is placed there instead, closing an
old bug.

I assume this also includes:

kernel-patch-2.4.27-s390 | 2.4.27-2 | unstable | source, all

the -di packages were already included in #383546, the arm image in
#383553, and so was the, here unmentioned, arm patch.
kernel-patch-2.4.27-mips is also not mentioned? And what to do with
kernel-patch-2.4.27-apus, kernel-patch-2.4-fasttraks150,
kernel-patch-2.4-grsecurity and kernel-patch-2.4-lowlatency?

So, you mention (excluding those packages already removed),
source-package based:
kernel-image-2.4.27-s390
kernel-image-2.4.27-sparc
kernel-latest-2.4-alpha
kernel-latest-2.4-s390
kernel-latest-2.4-sparc
kernel-patch-2.4.27-mips

I assume you also mean:
kernel-patch-2.4.27-s390
kernel-patch-2.4.27-mips

And I have no idea about:
kernel-patch-2.4.27-apus
kernel-patch-2.4-fasttraks150
kernel-patch-2.4-grsecurity
kernel-patch-2.4-lowlatency

Can you please provide a complete list, or if the original list *was*
complete, confirm that?

None of these packages exist, but linux-kernel-di-$arch instead do.

Britney will remove the source packages from testing too, should the
udebs also be removed following that from testing?

Bug#383855: nvidia-glx-legacy-dev: Missing GL/glext.h file

2006-08-19 Thread eLShaman
Package: nvidia-glx-legacy-dev
Version: 1.0.7182-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,

file /usr/include/GL/glext.h is missing in nvidia-glx-legacy-dev which
makes this package unusable since any code can't be compiled.

This file is in the nvidia archive so it is just missing in the Debian
package.

Bug#383854: XML parse error in democracy.xml (found while updating openoffice.org-common)

2006-08-19 Thread Max Hyre
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: openoffice.org-common
Version: 2.0.3-5

While installing openoffice.org-common, it emits a complaint about
the file /usr/share/mime/packages/democracy.xml, generating an XML parse
error because the tag isn't on the first line.

This occurs because the copyright boilerplate comment is the first
thing in the file. Moving the tag to line 1 should fix it.

Bug#369445: Couldn't reproduce the bug

2006-08-19 Thread Damián Viano
Hi, I've tried to reproduce this bug today with the provided gmoorc in
an up-to-date sid and couldn't do it. Gmoo started fine every time.

I even tried installing only xorg and xfonts-base (suspecting from the
fonts critical message) in a chroot and not even in that reduced
environment could I reproduce the segfault.

Can you still reproduce this?

Bug#376426: libnss-ldap: Bug #376426 no longer downgradeable on AMD64

2006-08-19 Thread Michael Berg
Package: libnss-ldap
Followup-For: Bug #376426

This bug just got a bit more serious. On AMD64 the only libnss-ldap
package available in the archive is now 251-5
(so AMD64 users no longer have the option of downgrading to 238-1).

Meaning there is no functional binary libnss-ldap package for AMD64
unless you have a copy of the 238-1 package laying around somewhere.

As Rik reported, SSH still works. However, when you ssh in, bash and
several other shells are non-functional (as reported in previous emails
under different shell-starting circumstances).

Bug#382618: Patch

2006-08-19 Thread Margarita Manterola
Tags 382618 + patch
Thanks

This bug is obviously due to a change in , the addition
of an "s" member, which has the "value" member inside.

I'm attaching a patch that fixes this problem, by adding all the
corresponding "s." before the "value" member.

BTW, when doing a "debian/rules clean" 3 files got deleted, which were
included in the originally uncompressed source: VERSION, slat.spec and
info/slat.html. I understand that these are auto-generated files, but it
is still surprising to clean the tree and be left with something different
than when you started.

2006-08-19 Thread John Marter
Package: apt
Version: 0.6.45

Searching google on rred reveals that it is a method of some sort, but
I cannot find an explanation documented anywhere. The word does not
appear in any of the apt documentation that I can find.

It does however show up in the user interface when downloading updates
for the Packages file. This word should either be documented, or replaced
with something more user friendly. I have no suggestions since I have
not figured out what it means.

I upgrade my sid daily. So, last upgrade of bittornado happened 24 Jun 2006.
python-related stuff was updated (reverse sorted by upgrade date) at:
Aug 16 2006:
[INSTALL, DEPENDENCIES] python-minimal
[UPGRADE] python 2.3.5-11 -> 2.4.3-11
(and after this upgrade bittornado stoped to work for me)

Aug 15 2006:
[UPGRADE] python-central 0.5.4 -> 0.5.5

Aug 11 2006:
[UPGRADE] python-support 0.3.9 -> 0.4.0
[UPGRADE] python-support 0.4.0 -> 0.4.1

Aug 7 2006:
[UPGRADE] python-central 0.5.3 -> 0.5.4

I think earlier events are irrelevant.

2006-08-19 Thread Tobias Klauser
This seems to be caused by code enclosed in #ifdef FORCE_ALIGN which,
according to configure.in is defined on ia64. Though this code doesn't
seem to be maintained. Upstream's lack of the architectures in question
maybe?

FORCE_ALIGN is also defined on alpha, arm*, hp*, mips* and sparc*. Does
the error also show up on these architectures?

I'm trying to investigate this further, but the lack of an ia64 machine makes
it a bit hard. :-/

Bug#383628: enlightenment: package upgrade

2006-08-19 Thread Jan Christoph Nordholz
Hi Clement,

a new package is being worked on. Actually, the most recent
upstream version is 0.16.8.3 (released Aug 17th). ;-)

But note that not only the binary's name has changed - the
user configuration has moved from .enlightenment to .e16
and changed much of its internal structure and syntax
(the keybindings file is a prominent example), so there is
no comfortable way to migrate from 0.16.7 to 0.16.8.

Jan

I am yet to hear anyone talking about Mac Pro boot.

Bug#382153: This is a bug in the std library

2006-08-19 Thread Margarita Manterola
reassign 382153 libstdc++6-4.1-dev 4.1.1-11
thanks

I've been testing this problem in merulo.debian.org, and I was able to
reproduce it.

This bug is actually in the c++ standard library. I was able to develop a
very small test case that reproduces this bug, and also one that "fixes"
it. I'm attaching them as works.cpp and doesnt-work.cpp, if you look at
them you'll that they are simple enough to conclude that this is c++'s
fault.

This bug turns up when you use and don't use . By
including this bug goes away.

I tested this on an updated i386 and amd64 box, but the bug didn't turn up.
So it _is_ really in ia64. This bug might be related to the patch applied
to #382627, although I'm not completely sure.

I'll keep looking into this.

Good news. See below for my comments on closing this.

/var/lib/python-support/python2.3/BitTornado
/var/lib/python-support/python2.3/BitTornado/BT1

Is this the listing from before the uninstall/reinstall? If so, then
the problem seems to be the lack of BitTornado in the python2.4
directories. For reference, here is my listing:

/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages
/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/BitTornado
/usr/share/python-support/bittornado
/usr/share/python-support/bittornado/BitTornado

/var/lib/python-support/python2.4/BitTornado
/var/lib/python-support/python2.4/BitTornado/BT1

I'm not sure what would cause this, but there was obviously a failure
in the python-support code which (as far as I know) is supposed to
generate these directories for all versions of python installed, and
byte-compile the module into them. Clearly this didn't happen properly
when you installed python2.4. Were you installing or upgrading
python-support or bittornado at the same time as installing python2.4?

Anyway, it looks like it's not a bittornado bug, and should be either
closed or probably just reassigned to python-support.

The inline spell checker preference under "Tools", "Autocheck Spelling",
doesn't seem to maintain state between restarts of the application.

I think it should maintain state for ease of use, and consistency with other

BTW the python-libgmail problem you describe below has been fixed in
the most recent version I uploaded to sid yesterday, so you should be
able to get that soon.

Bug#358065: mesa: FTBFS on hurd-i386 because of dri/drm

2006-08-19 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Hi again,

here is a small but important update of the patch. The additional part
is located in ``additional-GL-mklib.diff'' while the updated patch is
the ``hurd-dri-drm-updated.diff'' file.

There was an extra mklib for the GL library, which made the package
useless. With that updated patch, it was possible to build these
packages:
 - freeglut
 - mesa-utils
 - glitz

BTW, glxgears is running. That seems to be confirming that the package
is usable like that.

If you'd like to have a look at the list of the files for i386 and
hurd-i386 packages, I'm including them. The best way to compare them is
IMHO ``sdiff''.

Cheers,

Bug#383846: Acknowledgement (util-linux: hwclock w/ libc6-i686: segmentation fault on reboot)

2006-08-19 Thread J M Cerqueira Esteves
I just noticed that the reported segfault does not occur if I start
qemu without the -kernel-kqemu option, therefore I forwarded the report
to qemu-devel too:
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.qemu/13557/focus=13557

I have no more clues on the 'real culprit' (kqemu? libc6-i686?
hwclock?), but if someone suggests additional (preferably short) tests
which could help finding it, I'd be willing to run them here...

Best regards
   J Esteves

Bug#356292: apt-cacher: failed to update packages, emptied entire cache

2006-08-19 Thread Anderson Lizardo

Further details on this bug:

Looking at /usr/sbin/apt-cacher from apt-cacher 1.5.3, I see this code
snippet on line 707 (function handle_connection()):

   my $response = &ua_act(1, $host, $uri);
   #my $response = $ua->head("http://$host$uri";);
   $newhead = $response->header("Last-Modified");
   ...

It seems $response->is_success is not being checked for a possible
error after calling ua_act(). The other ua_act() call on this same
file checks is_success correctly.

I added a debug line right after calling ua_act to print
$response->is_success on every request. As expected, it printed "1"
for all successful connections, but after a unsuccessful download
(when my connection dropped), $response->is_success became "" and the
following lines were printed on access.log:

Sat Aug 19 18:15:24
2006|127.0.0.1|EXPIRED|71683|ubuntu_dists_dapper-updates_main_binary-i386_Packages.bz2
Sat Aug 19 18:15:27
2006|127.0.0.1|EXPIRED|14|ubuntu_dists_dapper-updates_restricted_binary-i386_Packages.bz2

If the cleanup script decided to run right in this moment (it didn't
because I have clean_cache=0 in apt-cacher.conf), I would have lost
some packages from my cache because their Packages files would have
been removed.

So I guess the fix is to add a check for $response->is_success != 1
and send some kind of "temporary failure" HTTP code to the client
*without* removing the current Packages file.

Hope that helps,

The backtrace is different:

But it really has to be something related to the CPU. The file
extra/yassl/taocrypt/src/integer.cpp contains some logic about it, but
I'm not a programmer so I can't figure it out.

After some further experimentation with the above change, I believe the
seek is necessary when reading past the first DML index (rather than
starting beyond it). This change seems to result in correct behaviour
in both cases:

Well, after I read this I removed bittornado and reinstaled it again.
Everything works Ok. So, I choosen to downgrade severity of this bug because
it happens at unidentifed conditions only on my box. If you like you could
close it or we can investigate it more - as you wish.

Bug#382830: Try this...

2006-08-19 Thread Tim Day
> module-assistant auto-build nvidia-kernel-legacy

Try
  m-a auto-install nvidia-kernel-legacy-source
   ^^^
instead (see http://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers )

This will at least get you some module-building action, but
unfortunately, with the version of nvidia-kernel-legacy source in
testing at the moment, and the 2.6.16 kernel, you get a some fairly
fatal looking build error from the compiler (missing struct member),
which maybe explains why there aren't any stock nvidia-kernel-legacy
packages for 2.6.16 currently (see "No stock nvidia-kernel-legacy..."
thread on debian-testing@lists.debian.org ).

(Me, I'm probably just going to wait for the 2.6.17 kernel, currently
appearing in sid, which does seem to be accompanied by built
nvidia-kernel-legacy modules).

Tim

Bug#383845: ITP: hachoir -- Tool to modify binary files in human-readable view

2006-08-19 Thread Aurélien GÉRÔME
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Aurélien GÉRÔME <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: hachoir
  Version : 0.5
Upstream Authors: Victor Stinner <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://hachoir.org/
  Licence : GPLv2
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : Tool to modify binary files in human-readable view

Hachoir is a library written in Python which allows to see and edit
a binary file (or any binary stream) field per field. A field is
the most basic information: a number, a string of characters, a flag
(yes/no), etc. Only supported formats can be opened, it's not a magic
tool. It can be used to extract some informations (eg. metadatas),
edit some fields of a file without original program, or convert a
file from a format to another.

Sorry, I wasn't closely watching what you guys were doing upstream. Yes,
upstream is pretty much planning on dropping the x suffix as far as I can
see (Daniel or Michel may have noticed otherwise though). If so, you should
probably send a patch.

Do you want me to patch the hurd/BSD stuff in what we ship to also not have
the x suffix?

Bug#383844: rtorrent ignores throttle settings

2006-08-19 Thread Artur R. Czechowski
Package: rtorrent
Version: 0.6.0-1
Severity: normal

Hello,
Comparing to other console torrent downloaders in Debian I used rtorrent
is great. But it has a very serious (for me) disavantage: it ignores
upload/download throtlle settings. For a sufficiently long time (sth
about half an hour) I set download rate limit for 10KB/s, but real rate
sometimes exceed 20KB/s. At http://blabluga.hell.pl/rtorrent.png you can
find a screenshot with upload rate 16KB when throtlle is set to 10KB.
I really apreciate the possibility to change speed limits without
exiting the program, but on my low-bandwith uplink is more important
to set a limits and keep them.

Best regards
Artur

Bug#383799: ImportError: No module named BitTornado

2006-08-19 Thread Cameron Dale

You beat me to it Micah. :)

On 8/19/06, Micah Anderson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

I also upgraded my packages in unstable to the latest, which included
installing python2.4 for the first time, and I had no problems with
bittornado afterwards. I also tried uninstalling python2.3 (still
worked fine), and then uninstalling and reinstalling bittornado with
only python2.4 present (still no problem).

Artur, what install order did you use? I assume something like: first
python2.3 (long ago), then bittornado (a while ago), then python2.4
(recently)? If that's the case you might try uninstalling/reinstalling
bittornado to see if it solves your problem. As Micah asked, the
output of dpkg -l "python*" might be helpful. Also, perhaps the output
of "locate -e BitTornado".

I don't think it's missing a build-dep; I can reproduce the error in a
chroot, but everything needed to compile that is there. It's somewhere
weird w/ the quoting. If I run the above line manually from the build/
directory, it works..

Bug#383840: no support for Cyrillic characters in Unicode X fonts

2006-08-19 Thread Paul Pogonyshev
Package: xfonts-base
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14sarge1

CVS GNU Emacs doesn't display Cyrillic characters with default setup.
It shows boxes instead of them. I installed all the fonts I could
found in Debian and this didn't help. (The only font I found which
shows Cyriliic characters is `mono', but is quite ugly...)

I know that default Emacs font `adobe-courier' can show Cyrillic
characters when they are encoded in one of the Cyrillic charsets, but
not in Unicode. Please provide support for Unicode too.

(I'm not sure which package to file bug against.)

Don't! NEWS.Debian is just as it is supposed to be.

The itemization is only meant for changelogs, NEWS.Debian is a text

what does the comment that says "run suse on debian will trash..." mean?
Is that supposed to say "run on debian will trash..."?

Bug#330604: same issue

2006-08-19 Thread Carl Strickland
It would appear I have the same issue as the others on this list and I am
running sid. I'll try and provide all the information the others have
supplied as well as the gdb output. I'm also here for questions if it
helps resolve this bug faster.

Package: inkscape
Version: 0.44-1
Followup-For: Bug #330604

This is the error I get upon starting it up. Also note that it keeps
running until I Ctrl+C:

---
*** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (fasttop): 0x085ef9c8 ***

Emergency save activated!
Emergency save completed. Inkscape will close now.
If you can reproduce this crash, please file a bug at www.inkscape.org
with a detailed description of the steps leading to the crash, so we can
fix it.
---

I don't know how to get this info so I am modifying Guillaume's by hand:

Bug#383828: udev: always starts `udevd --daemon' on upgrade

2006-08-19 Thread Mario 'BitKoenig' Holbe
Package: udev
Version: 0.097-1

Hello,

when I upgrade udev while running a 2.4 kernel, the postinst script
always starts an `udevd --daemon' process. I'm not sure, if this is
intentional, since the init-script for example doesn't start such a
process while booting up 2.4.

I think this is because of the restart_udevd call in postinst:205, the
only call of this function which is not jailed by a supported_kernel
call before.

regards
   Mario

Bug#383833: firefox: 8 bit characters ignored during selection

2006-08-19 Thread Jens Seidel
Package: firefox
Version: 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.4-1
Severity: minor

Hi,

I tried to copy "(»denial of service«)" from
http://www.debian.org/security/2006/dsa-1117.de.html into an xterm
running vim but got only "(denial of service)". The quotation characters
are also not marked as opposed to the other characters.

I selected the text via mouse and tried to insert it with the middle mouse
button. Maybe this problem belongs to a base library or even Xorg.

PS: This kind of copy&paste works well from and to an xterm.

Jens

Bug#383827: wish: minimize to tray on login

2006-08-19 Thread João Batista
Package: gaim
Version: 1:1.5.0+1.5.1cvs20051015-5
Severity: minor

Did a Google search and looked into the FAQ, and found no way to allow
the Gaim main window to minimize to tray(?) after logging in into an
account. IMHO this feature, which exists in other IM clients, would be
useful.

Bug#383832: xwrits: Please log

2006-08-19 Thread Kingsley G. Morse Jr.
Package: xwrits
Version: 2.21-5
Severity: wishlist

Thanks for maintaining debian's xwrits package.

It seems to me that it's aware of important
information: how long people sit in front of their
computers each day.

Doctors think too much "screen time" leads to
obesity. See

http://www.tvturnoff.org/images/action/AmLivedocsrpt.pdf#search=%22obesity%20%22screen%20time%22%22

If xwrits logged this information, it would give
people an objective measurement of how active or
sedentary they are.

Please enhance xwrits to log when and how long
users use the computer each day.

Thanks,
Kingsley

Indeed, and --enable-kserver needs to be disabled too. I'm working on
it, but it's long to compile...

Moreover, we can remove some of the not very well working code that
tries to detect smp:

rootskel/src/lib/debian-installer-startup.d/S04countcpus-linux-x86
(but not S04countcpus-linux-alpha; it may actually even work!)

It's an artefact from the emacs20 package, and it indeed looks like this
build-dep is now unnecessary. I'll drop it, thanks for the report.

Yes, that is correct. I will update the manpage to list the complete
 path.

> I don't think this is a good idea to place user/admin-edited data there.

Honestly I'd kinda agree, but in the past I found there were problems
with having things in /etc. Merge conflicts due to CVS identifiers,
 etc.

Since the roles and scripts generally, are arch-independant and
not generally user-editable it makes sense to keep them where they are.

I could perhaps create symlinks from /etc/xen-tools to matcH:

/etc/xen-tools/debian-hooks.d/ -> /usr/lib/xen-tools/debian.d/roles

  etc.

However I'm not sure that improves the situation very much.

Having just one role directory doesn't really work so well since it
is possible that multiple distributions might need different scripts
to do a job - it would be unfair to have to expect a role-writer to
have to code their script for all distributions, or test for it.

  eg:

#!/bin/sh
# /etc/xen-tools/role.d/
#
case "$1" in
debian)
blah ...
;;
centos)
blah ..
;;
esace

99% of people probably only care about one distribution so having
per-dist roles seems to offer least suprise.

Bug#310120: ffmpeg plugin segfault when encode mpeg

2006-08-19 Thread Santiago Ramos
Maybe this bug should be renamed to ffmpeg mpeg2 encoding, it has no
relation with avi files.

dbox2 request tries to get transcoded avi video with vcodec=mpgv and
acodec=mpga with TS mux.

But if you try to encode to mpeg any other video format (I tried via
command line with .mpg video) it finish with the same segmentation fault:

When encoding to mp4v (also with ffmpeg) codec there is no problems...

It would seem some deps are missing somewhere or your system is
 severely broken. /var/lib/dpkg/info/gconf2-common.postrm only calls
"ucf", and only if it's there. Could you check whether ucf is
correctly installed on your system? Can you run "debsums" and report
the result of "dpkg -C" on your system?

Bug#383825: /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstmad.so: id3mux plugin eats files

2006-08-19 Thread Daniel Jacobowitz
Package: gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
Version: 0.10.3-2
Severity: normal
File: /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstmad.so

I tried using sound-juicer along with the the LAME plugin, following the
directions in the sound-juicer documentation, which suggests using
id3mux. The result was 100-200 byte files containing only id3 tags,
but no actual mp3 content.

I switched to the id3v2mux plugin using taglib, and that worked.
The rest of the pipeline is unchanged, and the files now contain
music as expected.
