Bug#382870: texlive-latex-recommended: beamer.cls depends on pgfcore.sty which is not available

2006-08-21 Thread Norbert Preining
Hi all!

  /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/beamer/beamer.cls:305: Emergency stop.

Installing texlive-pictures solves this. Should texlive-latex-recommended
  depend on it then?

That's one possibility. A recommends or suggests would probably be
enough, though. After all its only one small component of texlive-latex-
recommended that cannot be used without texlive-pictures. Another option
would be to remove beamer and pgf from the texlive-* packages and
depend/recomend/suggest the separate pgf and latex-beamer packages.

Wasn't this the usual approach, anyway? latex-beamer seems to be fairly
 well maintained.

$ apt-cache show pgf
...
Version: 1.00-1

$ grep pgf CHANGES.packaging
  * upgrade pgf in texlive-pictures to 1.01 for compatibility fixes

pgf should be updated or it will break *ALL* old documents when using
pgf-1.00.

latex-beamer is up2date.

I haven't come around to write bug reports for this ...

Best wishes

Bug#383968: RFA: xtrkcad -- Model Train Track CAD Program

2006-08-21 Thread Bdale Garbee
Package: wnpp

I am not actively using xtrkcad. I believe the package is in good shape,
with no open bugs. However if someone else who actually uses the program
and is therefore more likely to pay attention to upstream development wants
to take over the package, I would be pleased to give it away.

Bug#383894: amarok: Does not work with MySQL 5.0.24

2006-08-21 Thread Johannes Adams
Hello again!

For me it worked also (even without recompiling) as long as I didn't add
songs to my collection, tried to rebuild the collection or wiped the
whole database and amarok settings and started with a new one - the
collection remained empty and no tables were created in the database.
Maybe you could try to create a new database and try to use it with
amarok. If it still works for you after this, I neither get the upstream
bug report nor why it only works for me with this patch.

Don't! NEWS.Debian is just as it is supposed to be.

My impression, which I think I got from an earlier apt-listchanges
maintainer, is that NEWS.Debian is supposed to have individual entries
in the same format as changelog.Debian. Whether that implies * I'm
not sure; whether this is just a little secret or part of policy I'm
 not sure.

I took the opportunity to re-read developer's reference 6.3.4 and
adapted NEWS.Debian to conform to it. There was indeed an error since
I didn't remember all of 6.3.4.

Also, as a user I expect that all binaries with the same source will
have the same NEWS.Debian, so I won't necessarily check the separate
NEWS.Debian. If others are like me, it means the NEWS may escape
human as well as automatic tools.

As a user, I wouldn't care about source packages.

I am vetoing the same NEWS.Debian in all exim4 binary packages. Please
take this to the tech ctte, we need a clarification of the developer's
reference.

In the longer-run, apt-listchanges, package maintainers, and policy
should all agree on what the deal is (format of NEWS.Debian and
relation between packages from the same source).

Policy is not the only thing to honor; especially since the policy
editors tend to axe change proposals.

Greetings
Marc

 Lack of support for this setup isn't a bug;

This setup refers to binary packages built from the same source
having distinct NEWS.Debian files, a feature which is supported by
Debhelper, and usage of Debhelper is recommended in Developer's
Reference 6.3.4.

If you still disagree, are you ok with referring this to the ctte?

NEWS.Debian is defined as having the same format as a Debian changelog,
and the format for changelog is defined in the policy manual.
apt-listchanges honors that specification, and doesn't care about the
conventional itemization, though you are required by policy to start each
 line with whitespace.

I was not aware of the last part of the sentence, and have fixed the
NEWS.Debian files in the exim4 package accordingly. Thanks for the
nudge to reference the docs again.

Greetings
Marc

Lack of support for this setup isn't a bug; NEWS.Debian has always been
loosely defined as being just like the Debian changelog but with a different
category of information. The Debian changelog has always corresponded to
source packages, not binary packages, and so apt-listchanges has always
treated it that way, and treats NEWS.Debian the same.

Hm. Though I remember about NEWS.Debian being formated like changelog, I
cannot remember that NEWS.Debian is per source package.

It was not discussed, and apt-listchanges (are there any other tools which
use this file?) has always used that interpretation.

If I'm not mistaken, dh_installchangelogs defaults to copying the same
NEWS.Debian file into each binary package, just as it does with changelog,
so this was a reasonable assumption from my perspective.

There can be multiple cases when some information for one binary package
is important, but for another is useless. People reading NEWS.Debian
(and people read that usually from installed binary packages) should
only get information useful for them. Changelog is however read often in
changes-files, and also in the source file, so having only one is right.

It sounds like perhaps it is time to standardize this in the policy manual.

It supports the same thing for changelogs, but I don't find this to be a
very good idea in practice. We may consider NEWS.Debian a different case,
but the above isn't a very solid argument. I suggest holding a discussion
rather than filing bugs.

If you still disagree, are you ok with referring this to the ctte?

Chill out and read point #1 on http://www.debian.org/devel/tech-ctte .

Bug#383109: vim-perl: Swap files not released on file close

I can't reproduce it here.

What do you mean with on file close?

Do you mean abandoned (using vim's manual terminology), that happens
for instance when you :e a file while editing another one (in this
case the latter is abandoned)?

In this case the buffer of the abandoned file is unloaded only if
'hidden' is not set. Otherwise the file will still be loaded in vim, and
it is normal that the corresponding swap file is not released.

You can check if this is the case both with :set (and look if 'hidden'
is one of the set options), and with :ls after having closed (using
your terminology) a file. If you still see the closed file listed than
it has not been really closed by vim.

Cheers.

It seems that vim doesn't load the plugin.

I can't reproduce it here.

Note that the plugin is loaded only when a file recognized as a filetype
'tex' is loaded. Note also that if you open an empty .tex file that file
will be recognized as a filetype 'plaintex', not 'tex', and this will
not trigger the loading of the vim-latexsuite.

Please try checking if the file you are working on is recognized as
filetype 'tex' (you can check this by simply executing :set ft). If
this is not the case you can manually trigger the loading of the
latexsuite by setting :set ft=tex, which you probably want to do
anyhow if you are writing LaTeX instead of plain TeX.

Cheers.

Are you willing to write a minimal support for that files? Syntax

Bug#383628: enlightenment: package upgrade

2006-08-21 Thread Clement Hermann (nodens)

Jan Christoph Nordholz wrote:

Hi Clement,

Hi Jan,

a new package is being worked on. Actually, the most recent
upstream version is 0.16.8.3 (released Aug 17th). ;-)

Oops... missed this one ;-)

But note that not only the binary's name has changed - the
user configuration has moved from .enlightenment to .e16
and changed much of its internal structure and syntax
(the keybindings file is a prominent example), so there is
no comfortable way to migrate from 0.16.7 to 0.16.8.

Right. When I changed from 0.16.7 to 0.16.8cvs, My old conf mostly
worked, even if the file structure had changed. There where few
problems, but I had to reconfigure some features, so I guess it might
indeed cause a few issues if the user is not properly warned.

Anyway, glad to know that E's not forgotten in debian ! :)
Please, don't hesitate to ask if you think I can help in any way.

Cheers,

So, one of the options in that file is responsible for the bug. Sorry

Bug#382465: bugs

2006-08-21 Thread Martín Ferrari

I've been reviewing this bug the last hours. I can confirm that this
bug is _not fixed_, tla is not usable in ia64, and I suspect is the
same in the other arches.

In ia64, there is present a misalignment warning, and a segmentation
fault. I could correct the latter, and I'm investigating the former. I
suspect the bus error in sparc is attributable to the same problem
with the alignment.

I'm still working on this, and I plan to reopen the bug as separate bug reports.

Hi!

In netkit-inetd.postrm (0.10-10.3 in sid) in line 4 there seems a -f
to be missing, because update-rc.d does not remove inetd from rc.d and
thus purging the package fails.

Right.

Please see the discussion on guile-devel. There's a problem with
popen.test in 1.8.0 that I'm trying to track down first.

Due to the manpage stating that separate root and /boot are possible a
bug report stating that quik-installer's insistence on root and /boot
being the same was incorrect. This bug was fixed, however testing an
installation with separate root and /boot reveals that it is the
manpage that was wrong not quik-installer's behaviour (so
quik-installer will need to be fixed by returning to the old
 behaviour).

quik just mounts 1 ext2 partition and reads etc/quik.conf, loads kernel
and initrd from the pathnames indicated in quik.conf. So if you want a
split /boot and root, you need to put your kernel(s) in /boot and put
quik.conf in /boot/etc/quik.conf.

Cheers,

Peter (p2).

Lack of support for this setup isn't a bug; NEWS.Debian has always been
loosely defined as being just like the Debian changelog but with a
   different
category of information.

If I'm not mistaken, dh_installchangelogs defaults to copying the same
NEWS.Debian file into each binary package, just as it does with changelog,
so this was a reasonable assumption from my perspective.

from dh_installchangelogs manpage:
| debian/package.NEWS files can also be used.

So, dh_installchangelogs has a default (and that is to share the files),
but maintainers can decide different on a (binary) package to package
basis - which sounds sensible to me.

It sounds like perhaps it is time to standardize this in the policy manual.

I agree to that.

Cheers,
Andi

Bug#383978: bash: [EASY FIX!] Interpretation of HISTTIMEFORMAT changed w/o notice

2006-08-21 Thread Marc-Jano Knopp
Package: bash
Version: 3.1-5
Severity: minor

{ Preliminary note: This potential bug can be fixed by a single character }

In bash 3.00.16(1) (Sarge package bash3-3.0-12), the string defined in
HISTTIMEFORMAT was interpreted as if there was a space character behind:

$ echo \$HISTTIMEFORMAT\
%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S %z # as you can see, there's no space at the end
$ history | grep some_command
 9567 2006-08-14 17:49:09 +0200 some_command
$

In Etch's bash 3.1.17(1) (package bash-3.1-5), this space was silently
omitted:

$ history | grep some_command
 9567 2006-08-14 17:49:09 +0200some_command
$

I'm okay with either way:

* The old behavior was reasonable.
* The new behavior is more flexible (you could then finish the job and
define a HISTFORMAT to control the whole history line's format, although
at least I don't need that).

But I want to know if this is just a bug or a new feature I can rely on,
in which case it should be documented appropriately; at least a note in the
changelog would be a good idea, so that people won't report this as a bug.

Bug#383979: spamassassin: Spamassassin's MySQL BayesStore doesn't work with MySQL 5.0.24

2006-08-21 Thread Stefan Borggraefe
Package: spamassassin

After MySQL 5.0.24 was uploaded to Sid, spamassassin stopped working
for me. I use the following settings in my local.cf:

The following error message is added to /var/log/mail.info everytime a

Aug 21 10:20:59 localhost spamd[5136]: spamd: Transactions not supported by

Maybe this bug has the same cause as

has a patch.

yum is now uninstallable because it depends on python ( 2.4) which is
no longer available in unstable.

I believe uninstallable fits the description of unusable or mostly
so, hence severity grave (http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt).

Use a suggests or recommends header in heimdal-clients. Most dpkg

Bug#383894: amarok: Does not work with MySQL 5.0.24

2006-08-21 Thread Oliver Heins
Johannes Adams [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

 Hello again!

For me it worked also (even without recompiling) as long as I didn't add
songs to my collection, tried to rebuild the collection or wiped the
whole database and amarok settings and started with a new one - the
collection remained empty and no tables were created in the database.
Maybe you could try to create a new database and try to use it with
amarok. If it still works for you after this, I neither get the upstream
bug report nor why it only works for me with this patch.

Hi,

here it works (after recompiling) just fine. I can add new songs to the
collection, I can even wipe the database out and create a new one.
However, after the upgrade to MySQL 5.0.24 I could not even connect to
the db.

Don't know where the difference is, but if a simple recompiling does not
help you, the patch has to be applied, IMHO.

Bug#379245: heimdal KCM

I have been requested to add KCM to the Debian packages - see bug #379245.

Based on my limited understanding, KCM is a system wide daemon that
keeps track of user's Kerberos tickets, in memory, so they don't need
 to be stored in /tmp.

Does this mean other programs wanting to read tickets (say, rpc.gssd from
nfs-common) will have to be patched to read the tickets? In that case, I very
much object to having this by default before etch :-)

Bug#383982: release-notes: Describe replace of kernel-image package with linux-image package

2006-08-21 Thread Juergen Kosel
Package: release-notes
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Hello,

the kernel package has been renamed from kernel-image-* into linux-image-*.
But there is no depandancy between kernel-image-* and linux-image-* (see
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=377228 ).
So when upgrading from Sarge to Etch, linux-image is not selected for
install by
aptitude dist-upgrade
But udev is selected for upgrade and would be downloaded.
But udev 0.93 depends on kernel = 2.6.15 which is not in Sarge nor selected to
be installed. So aptitude stops.
Without the information that the kernel package is now named linux-image
the system can't be repaired and further calls of aptitude makes the problem
even worse. For example, aptitude would uninstall aptitude.

Bug#383986: resolvconf: Bind forwarders are not included by the update script

2006-08-21 Thread Michel Grentzinger
Package: resolvconf
Version: 1.35
Severity: normal

Hi,

Since I've installed resolconf, my forwarders in /etc/bind/named.conf.options
aren't included in /var/run/bind/named.options.

Instead of having those Bind forwarders, I've got the IP of the dns-nameservers
directive specified in /etc/network/interfaces, which is 127.0.0.1.

After some tests, it seems that /etc/resolvconf/update.d/bind forget the IP
specified in /etc/bind/named.conf.options.

Could you try to debug this ?

Please find some attached files.

Bug#361087: mediawiki1.7 is not in testing

2006-08-21 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen

But mediawiki1.7 is not in testing. IMO simple and obvious bugfixes
like this one should be applied, at least until Debian Etch is
released.

I have reviewed the patch (actually manually made the same
modification to my local install before finding this bug.), and can
confirm it is correct.

Bug#353421: Cause of KDevelop documentation browser bugs

2006-08-21 Thread Jeremy Laine

tags 353421 patch
thanks

I think I have found the reason why KDevelop's documentation browser
is misbehaving. Some of the documentation plugins are incorrectly
built/installed as shared libraries instead of KDE plugins (not the
first time this happens with KDevelop..):

libdocchmplugin.la
libdocdevhelpplugin.la
libdocdoxygenplugin.la
libdockdevtocplugin.la

Running strace on kdevassistant shows that these files are not found
during startup.

I will be applying the attached patch to the next KDevelop upload.

Cheers,
Jeremy

This should be guarded with #ifdef XF86DRI (or whatever), and so should
 the relevant struct members.

Mmmm, _all_ structures use GL types. So including GL/gl.h
unconditionnally seems reasonable to me.

Or it just shouldn't be included if the
 whole file is GL-specific.

Well, in such case it should be added in from of every inclusion of
brw_structs.h, since this file always uses GL*int* types.

I'll try to improve the packaging in a few weeks, when there is less to
do at work. Lets hope the python-policy chaos settles down soon, because
the current state is very frustrating.

Bug#382986: default tw=0 for logcheck files

2006-08-21 Thread martin f krafft
also sprach Stefano Zacchiroli [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2006.08.21.0808 +0100]:
Well, yes, of course it could. But I would prefer more to have that kind
of files recognized by vim (don't know, 'ft=locheck'?) and add that line
as part of the ftplugin support for that kind of files ...

Fair enough, though I find it hard to imagine what other settings
are logcheck-specific, and syntax highlighting would be nice, but
probably quite hard. Logcheck files are simply lines of extended
regular expressions.

Are you willing to write a minimal support for that files?

Well, I don't know anything about vim ftplugin stuff yet. It's on my
list to do, along with the cleanup of all the hacks and cruft that
stowed up in almost 11 years of vi/vim use, but I just don't know
when I can get to it.

How about you add the autocmd I suggested, we mark this bug fixed
but leave it open, and when I get to vim, I'll write the ft stuff?

Thanks for the bug report. As Maximiliano Curia already mentioned the
package complies (more or less) to the new python policy which is why
there are no files in /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/gnomeosd.

I am unable to confirm the creation of the that directory though. It is
not included in the package, nor created at installation time.

Did you create this directory manually or was it a leftover from a
previous version of gnome-osd?

Hi!

I did again a clean recompile of the debian package and have to admit
that I was wrong - sorry that I asked you to test this if I should have
done it. Seems like the patch really is unnecessary now, but I just
wanted to help :-)

I guess a recompile instead would do it.

Don't know where the difference is, but if a simple recompiling does not

So long as it's fixed for etch, there shouldn't be a problem. With
the dependency being netkit-ping | iputils-ping, there may possibly
be slight complications once the removal happens, if tools like
dselect are used instead of apt-get (though I haven't tested), so it
would be nice to have it fixed sooner rather than later.

Just rechecking the dependencies, I think

ping | iputils-ping

would be better than just iputils-ping (for both the depends and
build-depends), to allow for other packages providing the ping
virtual package. The same applies to the heartbeat-2 package as well.

Thanks,
Roger

Hi,

Having installed new version of the packegs, I found that
isdnutils and makedev scripts are listed with the same startup
priority (S20) on runlevel 2. Due to alphabetic ordering,
isdnutils is started before makedev. However, it relies on
makedev having been run before it, so that MAKEDEV script is
already linked into /dev/. The workaround is to move
makedev startup to S19, or isdnutils to S21, but I don't know
what is more correct and convenient. Hope to see this resolved
in the next version of isdnutils.

Just grep for update-initramfs in /var/lib/dpkg/info/*.postinst.
I get uswsusp, cryptsetup, mdadm and udev on my machine.
They all simply call update-initramfs -u.

Okay, I admit beeing confused about the -u option. Though, those package

uses (from regular postinst files of kernel-image packages) the command
should be less invasive.

Bug#383999: failure to fetch external should not terminate svn

2006-08-21 Thread martin f krafft
Package: svn
Version: 1.3.2-5+b1
Severity: minor

I have my ~ in svn, and for that, I use almost 400 externals. Every
now and then, a site is unavailable. If I am running an update, svn
will then terminate:

Fetching external item into 'debian/pkg/hibernate/upstream.trunk'
svn: PROPFIND request failed on '/hibernate-script/trunk'
svn: PROPFIND of '/hibernate-script/trunk': 503 Service Unavailable
(http://svn.suspend2.net)

This is very annoying because I cannot recursively update the other
trees that follow after the failed tree in the depth-first-search,
and also because I have to relaunch the length procedure, iterating
over trees that have already been updated.

Unless there is a good reason why SVN should terminate if it fails
to fetch an external, I would appreciate if it just continued...

Thanks,

I just purged and reinstalled bison, and /usr/bin/yacc is there.
So far this does not appear to be a bug in inn, which has always used
yacc.

For the time being, I suggest you fix your buildd and reschedule inn.

Bug#224469: Bug PING: woody boot-floppies

2006-08-21 Thread Nathanael Nerode
What exactly is the reason for the delay on this?

Just do it. Make a directory
ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/woody/boot-floppies-source
And place the source files (.dsc, .tar.gz, .diff.gz) for boot-floppies
(currently in sid) there.

This seems extremely straightforward, but it has been delayed for years.
No wonder ftpmasters have a reputation for nonresponsiveness.

Come on, just do it. It can't take more than fifteen minutes, can it?

Cc:ed in case ftpmasters aren't reading the bug trail (since I can't think
of any other possible reason for the delay).

and it cleaned up the lock file. The .tmp file won't get cleaned up

Ah, good to know.

Thus, this does not show your problem

Well, this is not the actual problem I am trying to isolate, it's
only a secondary one. My actual problem is that GPG truncates my
pubring.gpg every once in a while. And yes, that may well be because
I interrupt it when it takes too long to download a key while
reading mailing lists.

Stay tuned. Sorry this is taking so long.

yes... as i said i'm willing to accept the blame for it and a fixed

Since the fixed package has been uploaded, I think this RC bug must be
closed. It's currently blocking the fixed dbconfig-common from migrating
to testing.

Compiling and running the test (either directly or using make check)
will then create a debug file, test-date.trace. Would you mind
 attaching test-date.trace please?

The attachment is from a build on etch rather than sid.

Thanks, but I do need the output from the sid machine too, please.

This output indicates a timezone failure. All results are exactly 5
hours out.

Either the timezone is not properly set on this box or it is not being
correctly determined.

Please can you run this simple series (on all affected boxes):

date -u -d1995-03-26 06:00:00.0 -0500 +%H %Z

As these errors are machine-specific, I need to ensure that the debug
output is from the correct machine. Is it possible to get the debug
output on the original machine as well?

Margarita: Could you check the timezone setting for the hppa box that
completed the QOF build successfully, please? Would you also be able to
run the above test 'date ... ' commands, just for comparison? Thanks.

I'm trying to arrange ssh access to a hppa and possibly sparc machine
(as I don't have direct access to the Debian machines yet) via my local
LUG but until then, it's difficult to locate the real problem with the
timezone determination. Suffice to say it works on my current test
machines, the other buildd machines and at least one hppa machine.

The rest of the debug output and buildd logs was predictable as arising
from the timezone issue. This should mean a simple fix is available,
once someone can test directly on the affected machines.

Bug#384000: id-utils Fails to Parse Indented C Preprocessor Statements.

2006-08-21 Thread Vassilis Pandis
Package: id-utils
Version: 3.2d-11

Hello. This is a bug an Ubuntu user reported [1]:

mkid(1), and therefore xtokid(1), seem to get confused by indented C
preprocessor statements.

$ cat id-utils-bug.c
#include foo.h
#ifdef BAR
  #include bar.h
#endif
foo bar
$ xtokid id-utils-bug.c
foo.h
BAR
include
bar
h
foo
bar

The indented line is generating a token for `include', and `bar.h'
should be one token like `foo.h' was before it.

This is id-utils version 3.2d-10.

The submitter then followed up on the bug report with a solution:

It's fixed in GNU's CVS already, but id-utils is without a maintainer so
I guess that's why, despite the bug fix being in 1999, it hasn't made it
into a new release. Perhaps Debian can include some of the patches?

Bug#384002: eid prompt /regexp functionality broken

2006-08-21 Thread Vassilis Pandis
Package: id-utils
Version: 3.2d-11

Hello. This is a bug an Ubuntu user reported. You can find the original bug
report at
http://launchpad.net/bugs/52655. It would be nice if this were fixed in Debian.
Thanks
in advance!

$ eid MAX_NUM_DEVICE_EEPROM
MAX_NUM_DEVICE_EEPROM ../dev_common_defines.h ../dev_test_eeprom_impl.c
edit? [y1-9^S/nq] /test
edit? [y1-9^S/nq] /dev
edit? [y1-9^S/nq] q

The above /test should have opened vi on dev_test_eeprom_impl.c
The /dev should have opened the first file.
The / syntax stated that it will edit the first file that matches the
following regex.
Instead it just re-issues the prompt.
This has been broken a long time in debian and ubuntu.

Here's a patch:
