Bug#382870: texlive-latex-recommended: beamer.cls depends on pgfcore.sty which is not available
Hi all! On Die, 15 Aug 2006, Frank Küster wrote: /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/beamer/beamer.cls: File gfcore.sty' not found. /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/beamer/beamer.cls:305: Emergency stop. - Installing texlive-pictures solves this. Should texlive-latex-recommended depend on it then? That's one possibility. A recommends or suggests would probably be enough, though. After all its only one small component of texlive-latex- recommended that cannot be used without texlive-pictures. Another option would be to remove beamer and pgf from the texlive-* packages and depend/recomend/suggest the separate pgf and latex-beamer packages. Wasn't this the usual approach, anyway? latex-beamer seems to be fairly well maintained. $ apt-cache show pgf ... Version: 1.00-1 $ grep pgf CHANGES.packaging * upgrade pgf in texlive-pictures to 1.01 for compatibility fixes pgf should be updated or it will break *ALL* old documents when using pgf-1.00. latex-beamer is up2date. However if someone else who actually uses the program and is therefore more likely to pay attention to upstream development wants to take over the package, I would be pleased to give it away. Bug#383894: amarok: Does not work with MySQL 5.0.24
Hello again! For me it worked also (even without recompiling) as long as I didn't add songs to my collection, tried to rebuild the collection or wiped the whole database and amarok settings and started with a new one - the collection remained empty and no tables were created in the database. Maybe you could try to create a new database and try to use it with amarok. If it still works for you after this, I neither get the upstream bug report nor why it only works for me with this patch. But if you can confirm that changing the formatting to start with * solves the problem, I'll just do that. Don't! NEWS.Debian is just as it is supposed to be. My impression, which I think I got from an earlier apt-listchanges maintainer, is that NEWS.Debian is supposed to have individual entries in the same format as changelog.Debian. Whether that implies * I'm not sure; whether this is just a little secret or part of policy I'm not sure. I took the opportunity to re-read developer's reference 6.3.4 and adapted NEWS.Debian to conform to it. There was indeed an error since I didn't remember all of 6.3.4. Also, as a user I expect that all binaries with the same source will have the same NEWS.Debian, so I won't necessarily check the separate NEWS.Debian. If others are like me, it means the NEWS may escape human as well as automatic tools. As a user, I wouldn't care about source packages. I am vetoing the same NEWS.Debian in all exim4 binary packages. Please take this to the tech ctte, we need a clarification of the developer's reference. In the longer-run, apt-listchanges, package maintainers, and policy should all agree on what the deal is (format of NEWS.Debian and relation between packages from the same source). Policy is not the only thing to honor; especially since the policy editors tend to axe change proposals. Greetings Marc -- - Marc Haber | I don't trust Computers. If you still disagree, are you ok with referring this to the ctte? NEWS.Debian is defined as having the same format as a Debian changelog, and the format for changelog is defined in the policy manual. apt-listchanges honors that specification, and doesn't care about the conventional itemization, though you are required by policy to start each line with whitespace. I was not aware of the last part of the sentence, and have fixed the NEWS.Debian files in the exim4 package accordingly. Thanks for the nudge to reference the docs again. Bug#383708: NEWS.Debian per source or binary package? (was: Bug#383708: exim4-config: SPF-related documentation issues)

Buggy as a june meadow and suboptimally maintained. Things can change soon, as apt-listchanges has just gotten a new maintainer. Lack of support for this setup isn't a bug; NEWS.Debian has always been loosely defined as being just like the Debian changelog but with a different category of information. The Debian changelog has always corresponded to source packages, not binary packages, and so apt-listchanges has always treated it that way, and treats NEWS.Debian the same. Hm. Though I remember about NEWS.Debian being formated like changelog, I cannot remember that NEWS.Debian is per source package. It was not discussed, and apt-listchanges (are there any other tools which use this file?) has always used that interpretation. If I'm not mistaken, dh_installchangelogs defaults to copying the same NEWS.Debian file into each binary package, just as it does with changelog, so this was a reasonable assumption from my perspective. There can be multiple cases when some information for one binary package is important, but for another is useless. People reading NEWS.Debian (and people read that usually from installed binary packages) should only get information useful for them. Changelog is however read often in changes-files, and also in the source file, so having only one is right. It sounds like perhaps it is time to standardize this in the policy manual. -- - mdz -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

That way if one is editing multiple files those cannot be closed and opened in another window any more without recovery warning. I can't reproduce it here. What do you mean with on file close? Do you mean abandoned (using vim's manual terminology), that happens for instance when you :e a file while editing another one (in this case the latter is abandoned)? In this case the buffer of the abandoned file is unloaded only if 'hidden' is not set. Otherwise the file will still be loaded in vim, and it is normal that the corresponding swap file is not released. You can check if this is the case both with :set (and look if 'hidden' is one of the set options), and with :ls after having closed (using your terminology) a file. If you still see the closed file listed than it has not been really closed by vim. Bug#382465: bugs
I've been reviewing this bug the last hours. I can confirm that this bug is _not fixed_, tla is not usable in ia64, and I suspect is the same in the other arches. In ia64, there is present a misalignment warning, and a segmentation fault. I could correct the latter, and I'm investigating the former. I suspect the bus error in sparc is attributable to the same problem with the alignment. I'm still working on this, and I plan to reopen the bug as separate bug reports. -- Martín Ferrari

This bug was fixed, however testing an installation with separate root and /boot reveals that it is the manpage that was wrong not quik-installer's behaviour (so quik-installer will need to be fixed by returning to the old behaviour). quik just mounts 1 ext2 partition and reads etc/quik.conf, loads kernel and initrd from the pathnames indicated in quik.conf. If I'm not mistaken, dh_installchangelogs defaults to copying the same NEWS.Debian file into each binary package, just as it does with changelog, so this was a reasonable assumption from my perspective. from dh_installchangelogs manpage: | debian/package.NEWS files can also be used. So, dh_installchangelogs has a default (and that is to share the files), but maintainers can decide different on a (binary) package to package basis - which sounds sensible to me. It sounds like perhaps it is time to standardize this in the policy manual. I agree to that. But I want to know if this is just a bug or a new feature I can rely on, in which case it should be documented appropriately; at least a note in the changelog would be a good idea, so that people won't report this as a bug. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.16-2-686 Locale: LANG=en_US, [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages bash depends on: ii base-files3.1.14 Debian base system miscellaneous f ii debianutils 2.17 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii libc6 2.3.6-15 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libncurses5 5.5-2 Shared libraries for terminal hand bash recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#383894: amarok: Does not work with MySQL 5.0.24
Johannes Adams [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Hello again! Hi, here it works (after recompiling) just fine. I can add new songs to the collection, I can even wipe the database out and create a new one. However, after the upgrade to MySQL 5.0.24 I could not even connect to the db. Don't know where the difference is, but if a simple recompiling does not help you, the patch has to be applied, IMHO. olli -- GnuPG-Key: http://www.sopos.org/pgp/olli.asc GnuPG-Fingerprint: F27A BA8C 1CFB B905 65A8 2544 0F07 B675 9A00 D827 NP: Nothing -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#379245: heimdal KCM
On Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 10:45:16AM +1000, Brian May wrote: I have been requested to add KCM to the Debian packages - see bug #379245. Based on my limited understanding, KCM is a system wide daemon that keeps track of user's Kerberos tickets, in memory, so they don't need to be stored in /tmp. Does this mean other programs wanting to read tickets (say, rpc.gssd from nfs-common) will have to be patched to read the tickets? In that case, I very much object to having this by default before etch :-) /* Steinar */ -- Homepage: http://www.sesse.net/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#383982: release-notes: Describe replace of kernel-image package with linux-image package
Package: release-notes Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system Hello, the kernel package has been renamed from kernel-image-* into linux-image-*. But there is no depandancy between kernel-image-* and linux-image-* (see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=377228 ). So when upgrading from Sarge to Etch, linux-image is not selected for install by aptitude dist-upgrade But udev is selected for upgrade and would be downloaded. But udev 0.93 depends on kernel = 2.6.15 which is not in Sarge nor selected to be installed. So aptitude stops. Without the information that the kernel package is now named linux-image the system can't be repaired and further calls of aptitude makes the problem even worse. For example, aptitude would uninstall aptitude. Hi! I did again a clean recompile of the debian package and have to admit that I was wrong - sorry that I asked you to test this if I should have done it. Bug#383985: heartbeat: dependency update: netkit-ping removal
Horms [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: On Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 10:22:42AM +0100, Roger Leigh wrote: netkit-base (netkit-ping) is due for removal from unstable and testing (see #383960). As a result, your package dependencies need updating as follows: Thanks for letting me know about this. Is there any urgency in making an upload for this? So long as it's fixed for etch, there shouldn't be a problem. With the dependency being netkit-ping | iputils-ping, there may possibly be slight complications once the removal happens, if tools like dselect are used instead of apt-get (though I haven't tested), so it would be nice to have it fixed sooner rather than later. Just rechecking the dependencies, I think ping | iputils-ping would be better than just iputils-ping (for both the depends and build-depends), to allow for other packages providing the ping virtual package. Bug#383992: isdnutils: startup disorder against makedev
Package: isdnutils Version: 1:3.9.20060704-2 Severity: normal Hi, Having installed new version of the packegs, I found that isdnutils and makedev scripts are listed with the same startup priority (S20) on runlevel 2. Due to alphabetic ordering, isdnutils is started before makedev. However, it relies on makedev having been run before it, so that MAKEDEV script is already linked into /dev/. The workaround is to move makedev startup to S19, or isdnutils to S21, but I don't know what is more correct and convenient. This is a bug an Ubuntu user reported [1]: mkid(1), and therefore xtokid(1), seem to get confused by indented C preprocessor statements. $ cat id-utils-bug.c #include foo.h #ifdef BAR #include bar.h #endif foo bar $ xtokid id-utils-bug.c foo.h BAR include bar h foo bar The indented line is generating a token for `include', and `bar.h' should be one token like `foo.h' was before it. This is id-utils version 3.2d-10. The submitter then followed up on the bug report with a solution: It's fixed in GNU's CVS already, but id-utils is without a maintainer so I guess that's why, despite the bug fix being in 1999, it hasn't made it into a new release. Bug#384002: eid prompt /regexp functionality broken
Package: id-utils Version: 3.2d-11 Hello. This is a bug an Ubuntu user reported. You can find the original bug report at http://launchpad.net/bugs/52655. It would be nice if this were fixed in Debian. Thanks in advance! $ eid MAX_NUM_DEVICE_EEPROM MAX_NUM_DEVICE_EEPROM ../dev_common_defines.h ../dev_test_eeprom_impl.c edit? [y1-9^S/nq] /test edit? [y1-9^S/nq] /dev edit? [y1-9^S/nq] q The above /test should have opened vi on dev_test_eeprom_impl.c The /dev should have opened the first file. The / syntax stated that it will edit the first file that matches the following regex. Instead it just re-issues the prompt. This has been broken a long time in debian and ubuntu.
