 Hi,

It *seems* that I have the same problem.

Sorry, my problem is not libpango1.0-0.
I think it's a problem with fontconfig-config or fontconfig in unstable.
(Downgrading to libfontconfig1_2.3.2-7_powerpc.deb
libfontconfig1-dev_2.3.2-7_powerpc.deb fontconfig_2.3.2-7_powerpc.deb
fontconfig-config_2.3.2-7_all.deb solves my problem.)

Best regards,

Chinese font from package ttf-arphic-uming doesn't display well in

Hi,

Because grubconf is planned to be removed from the archive (see
#389090), the debian/control of the grub-splashimages package will have
to be fixed and not recommand grubconf anymore.

A tiny patch against debian/control is attached.

No, i didn't even get into gtk-di, i ended up in a somewhat messed up text di,
i don't know why. Let me retry this image with the radeon.

In this case i wonder where the bug is, in the framebuffer device or in

Should we start x-posting on directfb-devel to get an expert help?

Yes, this would be nice. Maybe you can introduce the problem, and i give a

This is *not* an error type, but really a note. Moreover, this only
happens with the SSL-enabled build which is *not* in the archive, but
the build system is provided for the users' convenience. Therefore,
you will *not* see it with the standard Debian package present in
the archive.

 * the following line in your config file:
 if [ -f /etc/ircd-hybrid/ircd.conf ]; then
tests the existance of the ircd.conf file, so the adjective possibly

I think it reflects the reality better, because this message occurs
*if* the config file exists.

 * the following line in your config file:
 if egrep -q '[\t ]*[^#]+servlink_path' /etc/ircd-hybrid/ircd.conf;
tests if there is a servlink_path directive, so the if-then
construction of your sentence is pointless.

Same comment here, because it occurs *if* the config file contains
the servlink_path directive.

For those two points, it is needed to inform the user why he got
the message.

May I take the opportunity of this bug to ask you to send a request for
review of the French translation to debian-l10n-french?

This is weird, because I did not touch any templates when revving
up the package to the new upstream release, so it is accurrate. Feel
free to do it yourself.

In any case, this is my understanding of this nonsense bug to my
mind. Joshua, feel free to remove the wontfix tag and to fix it
accordingly to your belief of what you wrote back then as a native
speaker. :)

Alternatively, if you so desire, you could apply the also attached
patch against the pt_BR translation distributed within Debian's
popularity-contest package.

Bug#389103: yafray: Please package 0.0.9 release; Comaintenance offer

2006-09-23 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Package: yafray
Version: 0.0.8-2
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

0.0.9 has been released a while ago (more than 2 months) and one would
like to use it, e.g. from Blender. I had a quick look at it and built a
package for that version, that you can find fetch using dget on the
description file[1] or by fetching manually from the repository[2]

 1. http://debian.asyd.net/debian/pool/main/y/yafray/yafray_0.0.9-1.dsc
 2. http://debian.asyd.net/debian/pool/main/y/yafray/

Here is the changelog entry I added, if you want to have a quick look at
it:

/= CHANGELOG ENTRY =\

yafray (0.0.9-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release:
maintenance update from 0.0.8, with some improvements to RAM usage and
  raytracing robustness.
  * Added myself as comaintainer, in the Uploaders: field.
  * Modified 01-scons-install-fix.dpatch to remove unneeded headers.
  * Added 10_gnukfreebsd_support.dpatch to add support for GNU/kFreeBSD
(Closes: #389073).
  * Removed 02-64bit-297295.dpatch since it has been integrated upstream.
  * Removed debian/ex.package.doc-base.
  * Bumped Standards-Version (no change needed).
  * Improved short and long descriptions in debian/control.
  * Improved debian/copyright:
 - added year to copyrights;
 - added pointer to /usr/share/common-licenses/LGPL;
 - changed FSF address.
  * Added Build-Depends: on autotools-dev since its config.{guess,sub} files
are used when building the source (in the clean target).
  * Repacked upstream source to remove debian/.

 -- Cyril Brulebois [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat, 23 Sep 2006 17:04:57 +

\= CHANGELOG ENTRY =/

Remaining troubles are:
 - a unclear copyright statement, some outdated mail addresses, which I
   already reported to upstream, I'm waiting for their answer;
 - and the trouble reported by lintian, about shlib file, but which
already existed in the former versions; and on which I'll be working
   soon.

As you might have guessed from the bug title and from the changelog, I'd
like to help you maintaining it. Would you accept me as comaintainer?

Cheers,

So, it is clear that directfb needs not only the per-card drivers for
acceleration, but also for normal usage.

You're talking about per-card framebuffer devices, not per-card DFB
 gfxdrivers, right?
On i386 the vesafb device can be used in place of card-specific fb
devices and DFB will run unaccelerated on top of it.
Does a device driver equivalent to vesafb exists for PPCs?

Forget it, there is something clearly wrong in my 2.6.18 based gtk-di build,
even the radeon has problems, so i probably did some error in the build. Will
investigate tomorrow.

Right; I believe that them being non-versioned is suboptimal, as it
leads to transition issues with anything that links against libgcj.
(The way it is now, we only get half the advantage of sonames on
libgcj.)

Changing this may be difficult, and it probably requires coordination
with upstream, but it seems clear that it's the right way to go. [Just
for those following along, with the conflicts everything that links
against libgcj has to be rebuilt before you can install (without
removing un-rebuilt stuff) anything that links against the new
libgcj.]

Bug#389105: graphviz: make functionality easier to discover

2006-09-23 Thread Joachim Berdal Haga
Package: graphviz
Version: 2.8-2.2

It takes some effort to discover what functionality is available, mainly
because of many different programs with no naming consistency and not
very descriptive names. I think a common prefix would help, but
meanwhile adding something like this to for example README.Debian is an
idea (found by dpkg -L graphviz and 19 invocations of man):

Graph layout programs

neato - filter for drawing undirected graphs
twopi - filter for radial layouts of graphs
circo - filter for circular layout of graphs
fdp - filter for drawing undirected graphs

gvpack - merge and pack disjoint graphs

After a large upgrade, I had problems running X with the (closed-source)

the latest version from the www.nvidia.com. No luck.

Next because of the change indirectory structure from in X, I decided to

Is there a way out of this (without complete reinstallation)?

Bug#389111: autocompletion fails on non-printable characters in directories

2006-09-23 Thread David Madore
Package: zsh
Version: 4.3.2-17
Severity: minor

zsh seems to autocomplete non-printable characters by representing
them as something like $'\377', but then it fails to understand them
when autocompleting one further level of directories.

For example, suppose we start in an empty directory (/tmp/test, say)
and use no config file at all (cd /tmp/test; HOME=`pwd` zsh), just to
make sure we load only the base completion module: then try

% export LC_ALL=C
% mkdir `/usr/bin/printf 'x\\377z'`
% touch `/usr/bin/printf 'x\\377z'`/corge
% cat x$'\377'z/

It will complete so far (if you type xTAB, it completes to
x$'\377'z/ as shown above), but no further (the corge part never
appears).

Interesting.. I wonder how this will work out. This kind of

In the meantime, I'll continue to use your old version (in Debian

I still recommend to use a recent original version as Debian did not

IOW, you can't take build-indep out of build.

However, sbuild is buggy, it seems; policy demands:

The simple workaround is just to move the dependency, as I've done in my

   answer is no.

Umm and what if you do
  LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libGL.so boson
  instead? Sorry about that error

This way it works. and the game moves at an acceptable speed (there
are some inconveniences, but it works) and the warnign is not
 displayed.

Ok, thanks, that helped a lot.
This means that mesa has problems with dlopen()ing libGL.so (which we do).
Further investigations showed that apparently RTLD_GLOBAL is required as
dlopen() flag for mesa's libGL.so - QLibrary (which we use for loading
libGL.so) does not specify this flag, so it may indeed be the cause of this
problem.
I have just committed a patch to boson subversion which loads libGL.so
manually using dlopen() and provides the RTLD_GLOBAL flag, so it _might_ be
fixed now.
However I cannot test this myself, as both of my systems have NVidia cards and
thus I don't have DRI drivers that support direct rendering anyway.

Could you try to compile current boson subversion and see if the problem still
exists?

Bug#389107: xmoto: items (strawberries, spikes, flower) only displayed in the minimap

2006-09-23 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Package: xmoto
Version: 0.2.1-1
Severity: important

Hi,

after an upgrade from 0.2.0-1, the basic items mentioned in the subject
are no longer displayed in the main screen, but only in the minimap. The
ghost is also not visible, although I double-checked that all options
WRT ghost are enabled. I have also to mention that I only upgraded xmoto
and nothing else. I didn't reboot or restart X either, so that looks
like being xmoto's fault.

Two contacts of mine reported that the upgrade was OK on their i386 with
nvidia driver. So it could be some problems WRT my radeon driver or my
architecture.

I also noted that on the former version, the ghost wasn't well displayed
(looked a bit upside down, maybe due to some endianness) but I didn't
take time to report it on time. It could be related though (driver
behaving badly and/or arch-specific troubles).

Feel free to contact me so that I can check possible fixes (I can handle
.dsc dgetting)

Cheers,

PS: Tagging this bugreport important because it is barely playable,

Bug#389057: ircd-hybrid: Please rework the servlink-path-notice debconf template

2006-09-23 Thread Thomas Huriaux
Aurélien GÉRÔME [EMAIL PROTECTED] (23/09/2006):
 severity 389057 wishlist
 tags 389057 wontfix
 thanks

I think you misunderstood my bug and have not read my patch.

On Sat, Sep 23, 2006 at 06:31:01PM +0200, Thomas Huriaux wrote:
I've found the following problems with the
  ircd-hybrid/servlink-path-notice template:
  * the error type seems to be more appropriate for this template. See
also the recent discussion on debian-devel about note templates
displayed with a low or medium priority.

This is *not* an error type, but really a note. Moreover, this only
happens with the SSL-enabled build which is *not* in the archive, but
the build system is provided for the users' convenience. Therefore,
you will *not* see it with the standard Debian package present in
 the archive.

If this is not an error, raise the priority. If having this line in the
configuration file does not justify a high severity for the debconf
template, remove it.

  * the following line in your config file:
  if [ -f /etc/ircd-hybrid/ircd.conf ]; then
tests the existance of the ircd.conf file, so the adjective possibly
is pointless

I think it reflects the reality better, because this message occurs
 *if* the config file exists.

So if the config file *does* exist, you tell the user that the file
*may* exist? I would tell the user it *does* exist.

  * the following line in your config file:
  if egrep -q '[\t ]*[^#]+servlink_path' /etc/ircd-hybrid/ircd.conf;
tests if there is a servlink_path directive, so the if-then
construction of your sentence is pointless.

Same comment here, because it occurs *if* the config file contains
 the servlink_path directive.

So if the config file *does* contain the servlink_path directive, you
tell the user that the file *may* contain the servlink_path directive?
I would tell the user it *does* contain the servlink_path directive.

I'll update and review it.

In any case, this is my understanding of this nonsense bug to my
 mind.

No, this nonsense bug about this nonsense template is because Christian
used a 4-days old list for the MBF about debconf abuse, and I
updated the list today to find new ones. This template was not
db_input'ed in the previous binary package of ircd-hybrid, and was
therefore not included in the MBF.

Joshua, feel free to remove the wontfix tag and to fix it accordingly
to your belief of what you wrote back then as a native speaker. :)

Note that I mentioned different problems here (I opened only one bug as
they were for only one template, but seeing how you reacted once again,
I should have done it another way). Here is a clear list for Joshua if
he wants to fix it:
- debconf misuse/abuse
- use of a text obviously written for another code
- malformed title (this was only in the patch: a sentence without a
period does not make it a correct title)

Bug#389109: Launching gnome-terminal with a profile opens two windows

2006-09-23 Thread Peter Karlsson
Package: gnome-terminal
Version: 2.14.2-1
Severity: normal

Since bug 308226 was archived, I'll file a new report. I have now upgraded
the machine where the problem occurred to Etch, and the problem still
happens here.

My setup:
* Gnome desktop
* IceWM window manager
* One Gnome panel on the left-hand side of the screen, no main menu on top
* Gnome-Terminal set up with several profiles, one of them Pine
* One application launcher, with this command line:

gnome-terminal --title Pine --window-with-profile Pine --command
  /usr/local/bin/pine -d9 --geometry 90x57

Steps to reproduce:

1. Have no terminal windows open
2. Press the application launcher

Expected results:
One Gnome Terminal window displaying Pine in a 90x57 window should display,
using the Pine profile.

Actual results:
Two Gnome Termianl windows open, one with the properly configured Pine
profile, running Pine, and one in a standard 80x25, using the standard
profile.

at an earlier time. Obviously it is not used much since I'm not able to pinpoint
when it broke. I have a similar setup on another machine (running Etch) serving
another domain,
squirrelmail works fine there.. Perdition is running on the machine that has
the broken squirrelmail
(believe though that I did check it after installing perdition several months
ago though it might have
been the time it broke...can't remember). I tried tracking it down by
increasing the log levels at
various points, but the only info that it seems to report is the cross-realm
denied thing. The
squirrelmail src/configtest.php reports no problems.

Bug#383034: Some diagnosis

2006-09-23 Thread Dave Beckett
Nigel: you say:
I connect to my Debian system from OS X (latest) using 'ssh -Y'. Using
  gdb xsane, I get: [crash]

when I do the same from OSX, it works just fine but does nothing
since I don't have a scanner.

I probably can't test things like:
  dimensions:3120x1050 pixels (1055x355 millimeters)
in your configuration. That's an expensive monitor.

There is a possibility this might be caused by
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7953
which has a fix in git (attached).

Bug#389116: Makefile for building policy modules?

2006-09-23 Thread Uwe Hermann
Package: selinux-policy-refpolicy-src
Version: 0.0.20060911-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

AFAIK Fedora has a /usr/share/selinux/devel/Makefile or something which
you can copy into a directory, add foo.fc+foo.if+foo.te and then type
'make' (at least that's how I understand it - I didn't test) in order
to build the foo.pp which you can then install via 'semodule -i foo.pp'.

What's the Debian way to build and add additional policy modules
when you're using the targeted or strict packages?

Maybe both should ship such a Makefile (and some other required files
maybe, such build.conf?). Ideally, you should be able to easily add
new modules if you just install -targeted/-strict (and not
the -src policy).

Also, the README.Debian in all policy packages should probably document
how this works.

Bug#389113: package ntp tries to overwrite /usr/sbin/ntpd which is in package ntp-simple

2006-09-23 Thread Alvaro Herrera
Package: ntp
Version: 1:4.2.0a+stable-9
Severity: important

I was doing an apt-get update which included an upgrade of packages ntp,
ntp-simple and ntpdate. During the unpacking on ntp, I got this:

Desempaquetando el reemplazo de ntp ...
dpkg: error al procesar
/var/cache/apt/archives/ntp_1%3a4.2.2+dfsg.2-2_amd64.deb (--unpack):
intentando sobreescribir `/usr/sbin/ntpd', que está también en el paquete
ntp-simple
dpkg-deb: el subproceso paste fue terminado por la señal (Tubería rota)

Rough reverse translation is:

Unpacking the replacement of ntp ...
dpkg: error while processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/ntp_1%3a4.2.2+dfsg.2-2_amd64.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/sbin/ntpd', which is also in package ntp-simple
dpkg-deb: the paste subprocess was ended with signal (Broken pipe)

Following that, package ntp-simple was upgraded to 1:4.2.2.+dfsg.2-1.

After the error, I restarted (apt-get -f install) and it successfully
installed the package ntp and continued configuring the rest of
packages. So this sounds to me like a trivial packaging bug in the
transitional package.

I can understand that one now with the finally correct explaination

Sorry, without knowing the package that looked like an error. But I was

Can you explain that one? What code are you talking about?

The code I quoted in my first mail:

If this code wasn't there, I could have understood the possibly existing

have been added only after the text of the template was written.

  - malformed title (this was only in the patch: a sentence without a
period does not make it a correct title)

 Same here.

The short description of a note/error/text template should be considered
as a title (see the dev-ref). In my patch, there is
|-_Description: ircd-hybrid should not configure servlink_path variable
|+_Description: servlink_path variable not configurable

This is an upstream problem, there is a line missing from the desktop

at the end of the /usr/share/applications/kde/yakuake.desktop
it should appear inside the System menu.

A fine entry is made in the Debian menu Entry under Shells.

Yeah, because i added this entry with the Debian packaging.

Bug#388116: More info needed

Looking at the end of the backtrace:

#3 0xb78fc844 in cairo_show_glyphs () from /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2

In Cairo 1.2.4 and earlier (I looked back to 1.0.0) there is
no code path between cairo_show_glyphs() calling cairo_font_options_create()
or between cairo_surface_reference() calling cairo_xlib_surface_get_display()
so there must be some other corruption problem happening.

There is a small chance this is the same thing as
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=383034
which has something that looks like an upstream fix in
  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7953
if we believe the problem is in #3 cairo_show_glyphs() and
think anything above that is bogus.

Otherwise, I'll need a backtrace against cairo compiled with debugging
on.

I agree with that

build *IS* called by the dpkg-buildpackage and as such by the build
daemons which *IS* in the Debian policy [1]. dpkg-buildpackage -B first
calls the build target and after that the binary-arch target.

What dpkg-buildpackage does, doesn't really matter -- what matters is policy.
build _must_ build the _entire_ package:

The `build' target should perform all the configuration and compilation of
the package.

IOW, you can't take build-indep out of build.

However, sbuild is buggy, it seems; policy demands:

The `Build-Depends-Indep' and `Build-Conflicts-Indep' fields must be
satisfied when any of the following targets is invoked: `build' [...]

The simple workaround is just to move the dependency, as I've done in my
 patch.

Both ways are workarounds indeed as sbuild should just call build-arch
when it exists but it does not. This has been discussed before, see for
instance the some code in cdbs [1] and some threads on the lists [2,3]

My work around is to only build the arch-dependent part in build (yes,
this does not follow the letter of the policy but is done before) and
only build the arch independent part when binary-indep is called.

Your workaround is to include all the build dependencies for the
architecture independent parts in the Build-Depends as well so both
parts are build in the build target.

I think both are equivalent but I prefer the former as it keeps the
build daemon from building and installing unnecessary stuff.

The second way is more policy compliant but makes Build-Depends-Indep
worthless as the architecture independent parts are build time and time
again.

Best would be to fix sbuild, but without that I prefer the first option.

Greetings Arjan Oosting

I just checked it myself, the patch is included into 2.0.4rc1, slightly

(p[-2]8)|p[-1]; }
//inline sal_Int32 NEXT_S32( U8* p ) { return (sal_Int32)NEXT_U32(p); }

NEXT_S32() is really not used in gcach_ftyp.cxx.

The problem is that the bytecode interpretation doesn't work, I just asked

Thanks for pointing out this problem, I'll look into it ASAP.

Bug#389107: xmoto: items (strawberries, spikes, flower) only displayed in the minimap

2006-09-23 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Cyril Brulebois [EMAIL PROTECTED] (24/09/2006):
The ghost is also not visible, although I double-checked that all
 options WRT ghost are enabled.
Oh, my bad, false alarm. Looks like I didn't restarted the game
accordingly with all my changes I attempted to have it back, that's
fixed now. If I sum up this up correctly, it looks like when upgrading,
if the ghost was already activated, I wasn't able to see it, I had to
modify some options and rerun xmoto. But I have surely messed up
something. My bad...

I also noted that on the former version, the ghost wasn't well
displayed (looked a bit upside down, maybe due to some endianness) but
I didn't take time to report it on time. It could be related though
(driver behaving badly and/or arch-specific troubles).
That's fixed now.

The major problem, which is item invisibility and the subject of this
bugreport, still remains, though.

Cheers,

I can't reproduce this on my system, thus I am downgrading this to
severity important.

I tested:
ii mono-mcs 1.1.17.1-3 Mono C# compiler
ii muine 0.8.5-1+b1 Simple playlist based music
player
ii tomboy 0.3.9+dfsg-2.1 desktop note taking program
using Wiki style links

on:
ii mono-jit 1.1.17.1-3 fast CLI JIT/AOT compiler for
Mono

Please show the output of munine too.

What about other applications? non-gui things like mcs or monodis

If they fail too, please try a hello world C# application, here the
code:

class MainClass {
static void Main() {
System.Console.WriteLine(Hello World!);
}
}

compile that with mcs test.cs (eh that could be a problem :-P)
and run with mono ./test.exe

You can also try:
mono --debug test.exe
or
strace -f mono test.exe

lib trick there as it is not frozen?

I don't think it matters, but it's up to the X maintainers.

Bug#298427: A cleaner workaround than moving /lib/tls out of the way

2006-09-23 Thread Sam Morris
Creating the file /etc/ld.so.nohwcap should prevent /lib/tls and other
tricksy alternative library directories from ever being accessed. This
seems cleaner than renaming the /lib/tls directory, since your work will
be undone the next time you (re)install the libc6 package.

Hi,

The problem here is that xserver-xorg-video-tdfx is lacking some
included headers, and the getsecs macro does not get expanded, so
module ends up with an unresolvable symbol which makes X crash.
The error can only be seen on the console.

Attached a patch which can be imported into the quilted package. It
fixes a missing header for the abs function as well.

Hi,

This new version got a Build-Dependency on libreadline5. I cannot see
where this library is being linked against in rtorrent, if it's an
indirect dependency that should be reflected in the package directly
needing this library. Second thing is, if that library would be really
needed, the proper package to Build-Depend on would be libreadlin5-dev
which is the one providing the .so symlink.

Hi guillem, this is needed by `bc' and `libreadlin5' is the dependency
that needs `bc', not `libreadlin5-dev'.

Is reflected in the used of `bc' during the Build, if I delete this
dependency then fails to build.

Please, explain better which is the problem.

Thanks for your report.
Cheers!

the editor works fine.

I'm far from being a Debian policy expert, but I suppose it should be
possible to either link the config file from /usr/share to /etc, or
something similar.

Thanks!
