Same problem here on a IBM/Lenovo T60. When the radio switch is off, the
system hangs with a nice:

  BUG: soft lockup detected on CPU#0!

shortly after the ipw3945d loaded. There is nothing I can do but
restarting the machine and switching the system on.

Since this is happens to me on a Etch machine and causes the system to
hang, I upgrade the severity oft this bug (makes package unsuitable for
release).

My Kernel Version:
  2.6.18-4-amd64 #1 SMP Wed Feb 21 14:29:38 UTC 2007 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I am using amd64 here and it works fine. Could you please strace the
binary and/or run it in gdb to get more information?

concerning debconf templates for kdebase.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading kdebase with these changes right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Monday, March 26, 2007, when I 
will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
Saturday, April 07, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

On Sunday, April 08, 2007, I will contact you again and will send a final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

You try to fix 299145 by detecting the type of map by comparing its
name, and then specialcasing certain map element types. However, I
think it's better to just fix the map itself. For example in Flooded
Tunnel #2, one could replace the lowest "243" in the problematic shaft
with "0". What do you think?

  With 1280x1024 or 1024x768 @85 Hz modes xserver starts OK.
  When I try to use 1280x960 mode by adding it to SubSection
"Display" of Section "Screen", xserver starts with next to it mode.
  When I try to specify any Modeline, even given by DDC or
by "xvidtune -show" when all starts OK, xserver crashes with signal 11.
  I tryed set up option NoDDC and/or comment line 'Load "ddc"' in
Section "Module", but it seems that it have no effect - driver get DDC
from monitor anyway.
  And I don't see xserver-xorg-dbg package in the repository.

  Free ati/radeon driver have no this problem.

Hello,
well since ruby-yarv's development has kind of stopped (it has been 
merged to ruby1.9 meanwhile) it's an unnecessary effort to reupload it, 
since the package should be deleted immediately.
I even talked to Akira Yamada (responsible for ruby1.9 in debian) who 
told me he'll upload a recent ruby1.9 version soon. Thus ruby-yarv as 
package itself is obsolete.

This bug also occurs for Japanese manpages in my environment (i.e. on
mlterm, packages in pbuilder chroot for sid).  I'm sure this is
reproducible.  I cannot understand why it cannot be reproduced in
Daniel's environment...

I like the first change (s/that try to find/seeking/), but I personally like
the second part as it currently stands, with the "however" in the middle.

The script is actually the script that can be downloaded from the

This script worked fine with ejabberd but now does not work with wildfire.

I found a similar bug report on CPAN at the following url..

To the following..

delete($self->{SIDS}->{$currsid}) unless $currsid eq $sid;

This solved my issues..

Any ideas on whether this fix should be implemented in the distributed
version to make the package work with wildfire..?

I am using debian/testing, perl v5.8.8, libnet-jabber-perl/2.0-3 installed.

Bug#366478: bad documentation and poor installation

Yes, unfortunately I agree with this post. The docs are terrible with
this package and I've given up trying to integrate it with exim4 and
use it in general.

The package is pretty much useless, dspam_train does nothing and there's
not output with regard to any of the command that indicates there is
life.

The official dspam docs are useless and this is the first Debian package
I've completely given up on even though I've put a lot of effort into
it. It simply isn't useful as is.

that it only works when the src= or pkg= value matches the package name
from @p.d.o, so I'd like that when using pkg= it would add a user
for its source package as well.

Namely the change would be needed in source/debian/cgi/pkgreport.cgi,
around line 251 near 'add_user("[EMAIL PROTECTED]");', the
code would need to get the source package for $pkg and do an
additional add_user for that source package.

Checking a bit the sources, the problem seems to be that in
'source/debian/cgi/pkgreport.cgi (add_user)' $user->{"visible_cats"} is
used to decide which categories are hidden in the same way as in
'source/debian/Debbugs/User.pm (write)'.

But in 'source/debian/scripts/service' the code that deals with
usercategories sets $hidden but does not do anything with it.

Pretty sure wodim's info about dye types does not include the types
used in DVD media.  In fact, it appears that none of the ATIP disc type

mysql-server depends on mailx, and mailx depends on a mta. So, if you
remove ssmtp (your mta), you'll remove mysql-server.

Removing your mta is not a good idea, at least, you should replace it
with exim4 or any other. I don't think this is a bug.

PD. you can use LANG=C before the command to have an output in English.
e.g. LANG=C apt-get remove ssmtp

Well, the module was required, but a2enmod added it automatically,
along with mod_disk_cache.  Now it no longer does.

I think I've fixed this for the next upload (to be done in the next day
or two - I'm away from home but I'll still try), and I consider it a
release-critical upgrade issue, so I hope the release managers will
allow it into etch.

I'd like to see the ID code it's reportting.  Maybe it would help us
isolate certian issues, even if we don't know about the media.

none of these hints towards what I needed, a check for a chk 'n rm of my
stale /tmp/sylpheed-$UID lockfile.

These files are not lost, they are never built on architectures that do not
support compilation of ocaml to native code. This seems to be a bug in the
upstream Makefile:

cp $(OBJECTCMA) $(OBJECTCMXA) $(FULLCOQLIB)

This should accomodate for the fact that there may be no .cmxa files.

It sounds like a kludge to me, but I'm not the package maintainer so it's
not really my decision.  Anyway, I don't think nss-ldap has to retry
anything to cause udev error messages, just a single lookup seems to be
enough.

I can't reproduce the bug on the same machine anyway, without needing
to test the experimental version. But both liferea and libxul0d had
been upgraded (to 1.0.27-2 and 1.8.0.9-1 respectively). So, this
should be OK for etch.

Thank you for pointing us to /etc/adjtime. We had been getting other 
reports about this, but only very infrequently. As we did already set
/etc/default/rcS correctly, this has baffled us for a long time.

/etc/adjtime is unconditionally created by base-files (during base system 
installation) and so can just be modified in the clock-setup 
finish-install.d script.

Since 'automount' is already an objectclass there's no need to have it

The issue was mentioned by the upstream author of fail2ban and confirmed
by me on the debian system: distructor doesn't close socket properly so any
application which reinitiates its "subscription" once in a while (read -
cron/logrotate) is doomed to grow the number of opened sockets until it gets
exhausted.

Hi,

I'm raising this bug's severity, as it renders the package completely
unusable - and, besides, interferes with other packages (i.e. an
Apache2 with embperl enabled will just die). The patch is trivial (I'm
just updating the minimum required Apache and mod_perl versions, as
there was an ABI-incompatible change somewhere in the 2.0->2.2
transition.

This fix was tested in AMD64 and i386 systems.

Sorry, I'm not aware that --oknodo ever behaved differently; this has been
the documented behavior as far as I remember.

But it's certainly possible to get a false negative if using --exec with
--stop, as I mentioned, because s-s-d will simply fail to recognize that a
running process is one that should be stopped.  So maybe that's the problem
you're thinking of?

Surely not relevant to the problem at hand; I wouldn't mess with the kill
signals unless there's a concrete problem with stopping processes once
they've been identified.

I also ran into this on a Proliant and can confirm both the bug and
that the suggested patch does indeed fix it.  Given that
debian-installer uses grub-install, this will effectively break etch
installs on all HP Proliant servers.  It'd be very nice to get this
fixed for etch.  If you want me to upload an NMU, I'd be happy to do
so, just let me know.

Well, sorry, but I don't see how any other fix is possible for libnss-ldap.
It's a fact that udev does lookups for users/groups that are not guaranteed
to exist on the local system, and I don't think libnss-ldap should be
responsible for trying to munge the user's /etc/nsswitch.conf on boot to
avoid all LDAP lookups.

Alas, the maintainer of xkeyboard-config left Debian, and I was relying
on his experimental packages to test new upstream releases. I am not
able to build binary packages by myself with upstream sources: the
current package in Debian has one big monolithic patch, and I do not
know what I should keep or discard.

 Subliminal message to the new maintainer: swiching to patch managment
 in debian/patches would help a lot. I can try to do this if you are
 interested.

To make things even more difficult, I broke my mac keyboard three months
ago, and spend a long time with a PC keyboard in the meantime. I have
bought a happy hacking keyboard for mac recently, but unfortunately, its
keycodes are not the same as the mac keyboard, for instance the left alt
sends zenkaku/hankaku (I am very disapointed, but I still prefer it over
the enormous keyboards from Apple).

So definitely, the keyboard will be missing in Etch. However, I am quite
confident that jp106 is quite a good aproximation if you do not use the
eisu and kana keys. The support for these keys has been added in
upstream's sources, as documented in
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8503. If it works, the next
step is to make applications such as anthy aware of the keys.

I'm not entirely happy with the current situation either.
But as etch is about to be released soon, any time I invest now will
probably be lost time, because the patch won't make it into etch. And NM
0.7 (which brings support for static IP configurations upstream) will be
released in the foreseeable future.

I'm not sure it's a bug or "a feature" : with etch and Grub 0.97,
grub-reboot seems to only works well if "default" is set at "saved" in 
menu.lst.


But on sarge and grub 0.95, grub-reboot works without this (I had 
"default 0"

and was able to boot on 1 with grub-reboot, for example).

Is this a bug or not ?

repository but it has been reported against yasm in Ubuntu Feisty and it also

Thanks for finding these two, the one I responded to is a different, but
looking at the two bugreports they seem to contain everything thats
needed. So yes mark the bug as forwarded.

It would also be cool if one of the patches could be incorporated into
the debian package until upstream picks them up. Would save me and
probably others fixing the files every time xkb-data is updated.

in the case that no postgres server is running the libpq SSL_free() is
never called, and no segfault happens.  from the manpage for SSL_free():

 SSL_free() also calls the free()ing procedures for indirectly affected
 items, if applicable: the buffering BIO, the read and write BIOs,
 cipher lists specially created for this ssl, the SSL_SESSION.  Do not
 explicitly free these indirectly freed up items before or after calling
 SSL_free(), as trying to free things twice may lead to program failure.

i'm not sure if the error strings cound as "indirectly freed up items"
or not, but it seems to be part of the problem anyway.  i'll bring this
to a wider audience tomorrow to see if someone who knows more about
sharing libssl between multiple libraries has anything to say.

This text is taken verbatim from the AisleRiot Manual V2.12.

Moving the cards is reasonably obvious. Assuming you have a right-handed mouse,
left-click on a card and drag it somewhere. Release the mouse button to deposit
the card.
 
If a card can be moved to the foundation(s), you do not need to drag it. You
can double-click on it and it will move. If a sequence of cards can be moved to
the foundations, you can generally move the sequence as one move.

Double clicking a card will send it to a foundation, if that is possible. This
is useful for cleaning up large numbers of cards at the end of a successful
game.

In games which have a stock pile you can redeal it by clicking on the empty
space where it was. Be warned that some games only let you do this a limited
number of time. Watch for the Redeals Left message at the bottom of the
window.
 
A useful tip to know is that right-clicking on a face-up card which is
partially obscured by a card laid over it will raise it so that you can see
what it is.

So we wrongly exit to early when using a display manager. Please also
keep in mind, that gdm is by default run at S21 and Debian doesn't have
a early_login variable.

And indeed, I don't get the full boot process listed in the final bootchart.png.

The cleanest solution imo would be to add a stop script
"stop-bootchartd" which runs at /etc/rc(2345)/S99stop-bootchartd" and
which stops bootchartd instead of grepping for running processes.

I do tg-admin quickstart, tell it to use 'identity' and get a model with
these classes:

so far so good, but after customizing them a bit[1], I noticed weird
behaviours in the toolbox.  It turns out that the toolbox has a
different, very personal idea of those tables:

  class TG_User(InheritableSQLObject):
  class TG_Permission(InheritableSQLObject):

This causes all sorts of funny misbehaviours when using the toolbox and
the application: tables created by the toolbox won't work with the
application (they'd miss the extra custom fields), but the toolbox won't
be able to edit the user tables created by the application (trying to
add a user gives me "An error occurred: global name 'identity' is
not defined").

Plus, there's no obvious way to recreate the database tables as 
"tg-admin sql create" will create broken user tables.  Here's a
work-around script for that:

Hello,

The problem is that the parent directory of a file cannot be renamed at
the same time this file is renamed. The directory must be renamed
separately.

The attached patch make sure that
 * only the file names (not directory names) are renamed.
 * directories are renamed separately

A third column had to be added to keep a correct string representation of
the renamed path (otherwise a path can be a mix of latin-1 and utf-8)

No, no changes were ever made that would eliminate the udev error messages.
The change that was made was to prevent the system from *hanging* at boot.

There are currently two competing TeX distributions in Debian: tetex
and texlive.  They cannot both be installed concurrently.  lhs2tex
currently depends only on tetex; therefore texlive users cannot
install lhs2tex.

If (as is probably the case) lhs2tex works with texlive, the
dependencies should be changed from

tetex-base, tetex-bin

to something like

tetex-base | texlive-base, tetex-bin | texlive-base-bin

I don't know if this is precisely the correct dependency; you (the
maintainer) should probably check with the Debian texlive maintainers.

I've found some issues in the blackjack game. The parameter variation is
ignored (or I don't know how to use it, the manual says nothing):

$ blackjack --variation Vegas\ Downtown
$ blackjack --variation=Vegas\ Downtown

And I still see a Vegas Strip game. Further, if I don't put a variation,
this errors suggest a bug in the code:

$ blackjack --variation

(blackjack:9879): GLib-WARNING **: GError set over the top of a previous
GError or uninitialized memory.
This indicates a bug in someone's code. You must ensure an error is NULL
before it's set.
The overwriting error message was: Unknown option --variation

Other issue is the new game / restart game commands. The both seem to do
exactly the same: to restart the card deck and clear the table. But
neither of them reset the money counters. For doing this, you have to
go to preferences (!!).

It is also worth noting, that the spanish translation is very poor.

This is a known problem (#399572) but this permission is the specification
of upstream code. If we give a+r permission, these backends won't work.

During CUPS is working under root owner, I don't want to do such
not necessary configuration. Another idea is that using copy instead of
hardlink in postinst then setting permission 700.
But it seems be too late to merge it for Etch and we CUPS team is
planning to migrate Ubuntu-based cupsys for post-Etch.

To be honest, I'd just like to see Network Manager require explicit
configuration in order to start when it notices that the system has a
configuration it can't understand.  That way the user would have to
explicitly enable Network Manager and therefore we wouldn't get the
current problems where it gets installed for some reason (I think some
packages suggest or recommend it) and disrupts other software.  If
someone does want to run Network Manager in a situation where it doesn't
understand the software then they could always configure it to start and
deal with whatever other software might be disrupted as they see fit.

Any support for additional configurations would be nice but as you say
it'll never be everything.

Yes, I should never send patches when I am tired :-) I was trying
something along the lines of the code below.

option in /etc/default, and, of course the result was fine after

Bug#415904: [Linux, ti_usb-serial] Removing (obsolete) firmware blobs, making driver usable (without udev scripts)

1) In current form, i.e. without udev scripts, driver is unusable.

2) Two binary firmware blobs for different devices are staticaly included
   in the driver. While they are written to be GPL, Windows(R) driver
   package for such devices includes separate fimware files, thus providing
   updated ones and making blobs useless. Userspace helper was adopted to
   load that files. Filenames were taken from standard TI ez430 USB device
   driver package, where usb-serial is an interface.

3) To make driver usable usb_driver_set_configuration() crutch from
   2.6.19 was taken, it applies without conflicts on usb sources. This
   one is used to setup device and driver without need of any hotplug
   scripts.

4) Initial version was made in hurry in December, but updated patch was
   sent and conformed by upsteam author to work.

5) The upstream author lastly updated driver in 2.6.11. Some work was made
   to 2.6.13, but it wasn't posted to mainline. Now author wants to update
   his patch set, include some more binary blobs in the driver, or use
   userspace helper. Anything from my patch set he may include, but i asked
   him to provide his update first, and then i will post my.

Result: ~24k of RAM is saved, works without additional udev scripts, uses
default (udev) userspace firmware load helper.

Cons: User must symlink or copy firmware files from standard driver
  package to '/lib/firmware/'.

Patches were posted in debian-kernel and can be downloaded via Gmane

Unfortunately committers are not the same as contributors. A lot more 
people have contributed text to the release notes through mails to the 
debian-doc mailing list and bug reports that were committed by the people 
who have edited the release notes.

A code review shows that findlibs is only supposed to be invoked on binaries
that don't link against glibc, which is not the case here.

And as noted, the bug apparently doesn't manifest with -f directory,
only with -f cpio.

I think the most likely explanation is an incompatibility with glibc 2.5,
due to a bug in one of cpio, glibc, or perl.
