There is a patch [1] that adds support for magnets. The patch is regularly
updated and is in good shape. It has not been included into upstream (yet).

OK, got it.

However, are you sure that this file is UTF-8 encoded as the PO file
header says?

Actually, the file I sent is encoded in GBK. It's the first time I
translate PO file under MS Windows whose default keyboard-coding-system is
Chinese GBK. But I did check it using `msgfmt -v -v -v' before submitting,
and msgfmt complained nothing. Weird... My fault again. 8-(

It seems it probably uses one of the encodings used in the past for

Chinese, like BIG5 or GBhowever, I'm not competent enough in these
things to really know which one is used.

There is some ways to guess the encoding of Chinese text files. The most
reliable one is try to read it using differente candidate encodings in text
editor. But, iconv does this work perfectly as well. I always try to convert
the encoding of text file from one to another, like `$ iconf -f gbk -t utf8
< README.gbk > README.utf8'.

If iconv failed to do the job. The most probably reason is that a wrong
source encoding is specified. If the conversion completes without warning,
we got it! Although it's also an exhaustive method, it may help in some
occasions.

Thanks.

Bug#416835: (forw) [Pkg-shadow-devel] Bug#416835: /usr/sbin/useradd: contrary to documentation, useradd creates per-user groups

2007-03-30 Thread Christian Perrier
Any thoughts by others about this bug that was reported in Debian?

Please note that the "according to /etc/default/useradd" refers to the
default file we provide in Debian (attached), which is different from
the default file provided by upstream shadow.

Package: passwd
Version: 1:4.0.18.1-7
Severity: normal
File: /usr/sbin/useradd

according to /etc/default/useradd, useradd(8) is not capable of creating
per-user groups. its manual page does not mention that it can or will
do so. the manual page also says that when no group is specified, the
default group is "1". despite this, when useradd is invoked without -g,
per-user groups are created:

127/:~>id testuser
id: testuser: No such user
1/:~>grep testuser /etc/group
1/:~>useradd testuser
0/:~>id testuser
uid=1144(testuser) gid=1144(testuser) groups=1144(testuser)
0/:~>grep testuser /etc/group
testuser:x:1144:
0/:~>

"useradd -g users" will correctly add the user to the "users" group and
not create a per-user group.

either useradd should be changed to not create per-user groups, or the
documentation should be updated to say that it will do so. (the former
behaviour seems to make more sense, it's very unexpected that a
low-level utility like useradd will do such things.)

Bug#416876: mrxvt: DEBUG_X enabled by accident causing slowdown

2007-03-30 Thread Dave Benjamin

Package: mrxvt
Version: 0.5.2-2
Severity: normal

The mrxvt-0.5.2 source has a debugging constant defined that causes a very
noticeable slowdown, especially over a remote connection or when the
scrollback buffer gets large. I have waited awhile to report this because
I was expecting an 0.5.3 release (as hinted at in the following message),
but since this has not happened, I am still using a custom-compiled mrxvt
to get around this problem. It's a simple one-line fix, so it would be
nice to get this patch applied.

Thanks!
Dave

The following message is originally from the SourceForge forum, and can be
found at:

[Fixed] Slowdown in mrxvt-0.5.2 Click to flag this post
by Gautam Iyer-2 Oct 15, 2006; 11:51pm

Hi All,

I fixed the bugs reported by Roy Lanek and Garry Zhang. Both of them
reported that mrxvt-0.5.2 was a little slower redrawing the screen in
some situations.

The problem was a brain malfunction on my part. When coding, I had
enabled DEBUG_X in revision 168, and *forgotten* to turn this off! This
caused mrxvt to request synchronous processing of X events, and thus a
tremendous slowdown!

Attached is a patch that fixes this (alternately, use the version from
subversion).

I also noticed that some shared files from the subversion tree (terminfo
+ documentation) were missing in the released 0.5.2. Thus if Garry and
Roy both report the problem fixed, I will nuke the 0.5.2 release, and
re-release as 0.5.3. [And thanks to both of you for pointing it out. God
knows how long it might have gone unnoticed otherwise].

Let me know,

GI

THEOREM (A. Katok) There exists a measurable set E of area one in
the unit square (0,1) x [0,1] together with a family of disjoint
smooth real analytic curves G(y) which fill out this square, so that
each curve G(y) intersects E in at most one single point.
PROOF. Define for p in (0,1) the piecewise linear map T on [0,1]
by T(x)=x/p for x in A=[0,p) and f(x)=(x-p)/(1-p) for x in B=[p,1).
It is easy to see that T is measure-preserving. Denote by T^n(x) the
n'th iterate of the map, that is T^n(x)=T(T^(n-1)(x)). For fixed p, code
x by an infinite sequence b(n)=0 if x(n)=T^n(x) in A and b(n)=1 else.
In terms of this coding, T corresponds to the shift map. By the strong
law of large numbers, for Lebesgue almost every x in [0,1], the
frequency of 1's in the associated symbol space is defined and equal
to (1-p). Let E be the subset of (p,x) in (0,1) x [0,1] such that
the frequency of 1's is equal to 1-p. It is a measurable set. Because
the intersection of E with each line {p} x [0,1] has full Lebesgue
measure, Fubini's theorem implies that E has Lebesgue area 1.
For x in [0,1] define y(p,x) = sum b(n) 2^n, where b(n) is the coding
of x. The sets G(y) = { (p,x) | y(p,x)=y } are disjoint and each G(y)
is a smooth real analytic curve.
[Proof: set p(0)=p,p(1)=1-p. From x(n)=b(n) p(0)+x(n+1) p(b(n)) follows
 x=x(p,y)=p(0)(b(1)+p(b(1))(b(2)+p(b(2))(b(3)+...) ...) ...)
 =p(0)(b(1)+b(2) p(b(1)) +b(3) p(b(1)) p(b(2))
+b(4) p(b(1)) p(b(2)) p(b(3)) +...)
 Set p(0)=p=(1+t)/2, p(1)=1-p=(1-t)/2. If |t| x(p,y). Since a given symbol
sequence b(n) can have at most one limiting frequency
lim (b(1)+ ... + b(n))/n = 1-p, it follows that each G(y) can intersect
E in at most a single point (p,x(p,y)).

Bug#416875: NTP depends on Perl

2007-03-30 Thread Juliusz Chroboczek
Package: ntp
Version: 1:4.2.2.p4+dfsg-2

Hi,

I've just spent some time trying to install a reasonably minimal
Debian system on a router. To my dismay, there was no way I could get
rid of Perl, as the NTP daemon depends on it.

This dependency is not necessary, as the daemon itself doesn't need
perl -- it's only the accompanying scripts that do.

Please change the ``Depends: perl'' to a Suggests (or perhaps a Recommends).

Thanks,

Juliusz

 Do not clean the --buildplace if it has the same contents as the

Indeed, this behavior should never cause a segfault on i386, but will cause
the problems seen on amd64 because of differences in how varargs are
represented.

The upstream description of the bug and requisite fix looks accurate to me,
though there is no explicit patch in the bug log, so please find one
attached. I have no immediate plans to NMU this since I don't have the
means to reproduce the original bug myself and prove that it's completely
fixed (just starting ekiga on amd64 isn't enough to trigger any problems,
but feel free to call sip: for a test :), but if no one else

Bug#408258: IPP2P

2007-03-30 Thread Theppitak Karoonboonyanan

Hi,

How is this going on? I had packaged it as part of my part-time
job and was wondering whether I should file ITP for it, because I
haven't used it myself and I don't think I know it well enough to
maintain it, before someone directed me to this bug.

If you like to see what I have done, I have put the source at:
http://linux.thai.net/~thep/debian/source/ipp2p/

If you have done it, just ignore this message. Otherwise, could
you consider taking it for maintenance?

Yours,

 ocaml-core's description says it depends on the emacs support package,
but I'm pretty sure it's referring to ocaml-mode, which it doesn't
declare any dependency on.

 Description : bring peace to the poor souls of crashed applications

The Debian Reaper collects the souls of crashed applications, and
gathers information from the process and the system to write a nice bug
report. The package can then find peace in the BTS.
.
Debreaper is meant to be a drop-in replacement for the GNOME signal
handler, but can easily be used by any other software. It attempts to
remain as simple as bug-buddy, and makes use of the user's configured
mail client to send the report.

Bug#338603: memtest86/memtest86+: please support GNU/kFreeBSD

thanks

Hi,

please find attached a patch implementing what Petr suggested. I know
that I didn't use a patch/unpatch rule, but the "dirty" (patched)
sources will only be used during the build on kfreebsd-*, so that
shouldn't cause too much troubles. I just tried to KISS.

Please note that I don't intend to NMU it, that was just a way for me to
propose a changelog entry and to call debdiff easily. ;-)

Ok, thanks.

So it happens that I've just done my first real etch install onto a new
laptop. The desktop is great, but network-manager is /awful/ for my
purposes; not because I don't want a desktop applet managing my connection
-- I in fact do want this -- but because it stores all my wep keys under
lock and key, and as a result my wifi connection isn't brought up until I
log into the GUI. This is doubly-broken for me because I want to be able to
use Kerberos for network-based login *at* the GUI...

None of this is anything that I think should be RC for etch, though I look
forward to trying to help find a solution better-integrated with ifupdown
for lenny. In the meantime, I'll probably install waproamd for my own use.

Uh, I don't understand what you mean by "too". I was talking about what
*ifupdown* does with interfaces that are not marked 'auto', which is:
nothing. The interface is only managed by /etc/init.d/networking if it's
marked 'auto'; if it's marked allow-hotplug and *not* marked auto, it's
managed via the hotplug system exclusively.

Well, at this point the problem you're describing is not reproducible for
me.

I've set up my ethernet interface as:

 # The primary network interface
 auto eth0
 allow-hotplug eth0
 iface eth0 inet dhcp

I have manually disabled networking with NM. I have then run
/etc/init.d/networking restart, and the ethernet interface is brought up
successfully, and stays up.

So what I understand from this description is that 'allow-hotplug eth0' was
set, and 'auto eth0' was /not/ set, so this behavior of
/etc/init.d/networking is expected.

In Bug #416576, Frans suggested discussing these package priorities on
debian-devel. I haven't seen that.

I don't particularly care about the outcome of the discussion (and have no
real control over the package's priority anyway - the Priority field in the
Packages files is controlled by the ftpmasters' overrides files) but IMHO
it's a decision that needs rough concensus.

The clock-applet crashes after I double-click on a day from the calendar.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Click on the clock to show the calendar
2) Double-click on a day. The calendar will turn white/unresponsive
3) Click on the clock to hide the calendar again
4) Click on the clock once more to re-open the calendar

After step 4, Gnome says the clock-applet has crashed.

other programs without trying the wrapper, in case the PATH wasn't set to
include the programs in /usr/lib/gmt/bin. It would be nice if the GMT
wrapper could be used throughout.

Bug#413124: webdiff became netstiff / bug retitling

2007-03-30 Thread Stephan Beyer
retitle 413124 ITP: netstiff -- powerful tool to check for web page updates
thanks

Hi again,

> Finding a good and well sounding package name is complicated business.

So it's done and "webdiff" is renamed to "netstiff". Well, it's a rather
nonsense name without further meaning.
Well-sounding? That's a matter of taste.
Good? No, new users cannot divine by name, what the program is doing.
But: it's unique and, at least, rhymes on webdiff. ;-)

> I am not sure about what is the main focus of your package. At the first
> glance it looks like a websec remake in Ruby. I would at least refer to
> websec in the package description.

websec is ... different, a bit ;-) It has other features, e.g. producing
colored HTML output or sending mail.
And when I started doing work on netstiff/webdiff, I didn't know that
websec exists, of course. Otherwise, I think, I would never have begun
writing netstiff.

Now let's go:

* Package name: netstiff
 Version : 20070322
 Upstream Author : Stephan Beyer <>
* URL : http://pkqs.net/~sbeyer/tools/netstiff/
* License : GPL
 Programming Lang: Ruby
 Description : powerful tool to check for web page updates

netstiff (formerly known as webdiff) is a powerful and easy-to-use tool
which checks for web page updates. Several test criteria can be used:
diff, html, size, date, md5sum, regexp.
Using the default command (`get'), it will fetch the needed data from the
specified URIs and show you only those that changed or where the given
regular expression matches.
Using the `diff' command and diff criterion, netstiff will show you the
changes in unified diff format, like "diff -u" does.
If you use the html criterion, the `diff' command is able to filter HTML
tags or to use an external tool, like "html2text" or "lynx -nolist -dump"
to pretty-print the difference output.
Netstiff also comes with a built-in interactive configuration tool.

Regards,
Stephan Beyer

PS: I hope I've done it right.

René told me on IRC that he is using the GL stuff from the ATI
installer, but: other OpenGL applications worked and crack-attack could
be started, too.

So I guess that it is the new glibc with better (stricter) memory
management/checks in conjunction with broken ATI GLX libraries.
So, imho the bug could be closed, when it is sure.

The answer gives gdb or valgrind, as you have already mentioned. ;-)

René, have you tried crack-attack with the reduced or extremely reduced
graphics mode? If other OpenGL applications really work, this can work,
too. ;-)

Stephan

Ok, well if that's the only argument, then it's not release-critical. I
might still consider accepting such a fix for etch depending on time
available and how straightforward the provided solution is, but the
reverse-dependencies of libbrlapi1 are not so numerous that a /non/-smooth
library transition for lenny would significantly handicap us.

libbrlapi1 is meant to ship a library. Currently, it also ships
/sbin/xbrlapi and /lib/brltty/libbrlttybba.so binaries. Later on, if we
need to upload a new libbrlapi2, that one will have to conflict with
libbrlapi1, hence preventing from installing both versions of libraries

Well, not per se; I'm using the standard mesa libraries with an intel 915
chipset, and it works fine.

Rene, you might want to run crack-attack under valgrind, to get better debug

Um, I don't see that this is a bug that needs to be fixed for etch, and I'm
generally not in favor of significantly reorganizing binary packages at the
last minute before release. Could you please elaborate why you've marked
this as 'serious'? It's normally not RC for a package to ship in a
stable release with the kind of bug described here, it just becomes RC to
fail to deal with it correctly in the next stable release.

(Hmm, I see that currently, policy 8.2 says "must not" about including
support programs in a shared lib package; I have no idea when that was
changed, but anyway it's not something being treated as RC for etch.)

Bug#416847: I can't reproduce the bug in sid

2007-03-30 Thread Maximiliano Curia
Hi,

I also could not reproduce the bug in sid, without any non-free gl tweaking (I
have an ati video card with the xserver-xorg-video-ati driver.

Anyway, I have a sid system, in the template I see only two differencies:
ii freeglut3 2.4.0-5.1OpenGL Utility Toolkit
ii libsdl-mixer1.2 1.2.6-2 mixer library for Simple DirectMed

So, could you try to upgrade these two, to confirm is the problem is with any
of those two libraries?

Bug#404148: kernel: data corruption with nvidia chipsets and IDE/SATA drives // memory hole mapping

2007-03-30 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Hi Steve.

As I've told you in my email before I just tested your patch with the
following results (used linux-source-2.6.18 (2.6.18.dfsg.1-12) from
testing, of course on an amd64 system):

- The patch applies without problems
- The kernel compiles with it without problems (at least with my config)
- It boots correctly
- and it automatically disables the hardware iommu (look at my dmesg below):

Bootdata ok (command line is root=/dev/sda1 ro snd-ice1724.index=0

So you see later on the kernel correctly reports to use the swiotlb.

I would say (although I'm by any means not kernel expert) that your
patch looks good and I _strongly_ recommend to include it in etch r0 (!!)...
You're the release manager,... so you should get managed this :-)

But I would say that you should add some notes to the release notes.

btw: I've CC'ed the mail to Andy so if you don't have time to do this he
might... uh and for Andy: have you already signed the etch release key
and did you have found some time to sign my personal key I gave you on
the last Stammtisch?!

Best wishes,
Chris.

Ah, yes. Which calls krb5_sname_to_principal to try to figure out what
credentials to attempt to acquire, which in turn does:

struct addrinfo *ai, hints;
int err;
char hnamebuf[NI_MAXHOST];

/* Note that the old code would accept numeric addresses,
 and if the gethostbyaddr step could convert them to
 real hostnames, you could actually get reasonable
 results. If the mapping failed, you'd get dotted
 triples as realm names. *sigh*

 The latter has been fixed in hst_realm.c, but we should
 keep supporting numeric addresses if they do have
 hostnames associated. */

memset(&hints, 0, sizeof(hints));
hints.ai_family = AF_INET;
try_getaddrinfo_again:
err = getaddrinfo(hostname, 0, &hints, &ai);
if (err) {
if (hints.ai_family == AF_INET) {
/* Just in case it's an IPv6-only name. */
hints.ai_family = 0;
goto try_getaddrinfo_again;
}
return KRB5_ERR_BAD_HOSTNAME;
}
remote_host = strdup(ai->ai_canonname ? ai->ai_canonname :
hostname);
if (!remote_host) {
freeaddrinfo(ai);
return ENOMEM;
}

if (maybe_use_reverse_dns(context, DEFAULT_RDNS_LOOKUP)) {
/*
* Do a reverse resolution to get the full name, just in
* case there's some funny business going on. If there
* isn't an in-addr record, give up.
*/
/* XXX: This is *so* bogus. There are several cases where
 this won't get us the canonical name of the host, but
 this is what we've trained people to expect. We'll
 probably fix it at some point, but let's try to
 preserve the current behavior and only shake things up
 once when it comes time to fix this lossage. */
err = getnameinfo(ai->ai_addr, ai->ai_addrlen,
 hnamebuf, sizeof(hnamebuf), 0, 0,
NI_NAMEREQD);
freeaddrinfo(ai);
if (err == 0) {
free(remote_host);
remote_host = strdup(hnamebuf);
if (!remote_host)
return ENOMEM;
}
}

You can turn off the reverse DNS lookup by setting rdns to false in
[libdefaults] in krb5.conf, but this means that the Kerberos library
doesn't canonicalize the hostname for you, which is a change in behavior.
As the comment notes, the Kerberos library really shouldn't be doing this,
but it's been done this way for so long that it's a disruptive change to
stop. This is really the wrong behavior for SSH in general, since SSH has
its own concept of host canonicalization that's handled through local
configuration, but Kerberos doesn't know it's being called by SSH.

However, before calling this function, gss_import_name creates a Kerberos
context, which means that this should all fail much earlier if one doesn't
have a krb5.conf file. So people who don't have krb5-config installed
won't see this, even if reverse DNS is broken. Unfortunately, the code
has no idea whether you have a ticket cache until much later, so if you
have the configuration available, this will all happen even if you don't
have Kerberos tickets (I think).

Personally, I think this bug lies with whatever package is installing a
broken reverse DNS setup that not only doesn't work but that takes forever
to time out. But I realize that it's annoying to people and users don't
really care *where* the problem is coming from.

Hi.

Running "autoreconf -vfi" does the same, alternatively.

Unfortunately, this isn't sufficient, since afterwards the build fails
with the following error:

Ah, we're back to a patronizing tone? Let me start an over/under but then
about when you pull the luddite rabbit out of your hat again. But I
digress...

Documentation of what, you ask? Well maybe of what I suggested before about
half a dozen times (and I can also send you snail mail letter if that helps
with your attention deficit disorder): list which mailers are known to,
respectively, fail and work. As helpful guidance, not in a prescriptive. And
Debian will buy you liability insurance in case you're afraid it doesn't work
with a mailer you listed,

All that is suggested is that you bloody grep through the 'accepted' and
'failed' piles and maybe count the occurrences. That's all.

You got the data. Use it. Save a kitten or two.

Bog standard. Like the ones that worked for ten times, and then mysteriously
failed. Because of a change you controlled, didn't announce, and refuse to
document.

Bog standard, as you say.

Whenever I click on the adept notifier, it wants to upgrade all
packages, even those marked as hold (or is this a bug in a
adept-updater?). Aptitude, apt-get get, and even dselect are all smart
enough not do this without at least asking for persmission first. It
would also be nice if the updater would ignore packages marked hold in
its little status icon, although I suppose that might be really part
of bug #386473.

This is not the only problem, config.{guess,sub} are outdated, which can
be solved by copyring autotools-dev's ones from /usr/share/misc, and
maybe automating this copying, as described in this package's
README.Debian.

Alternatively, "autoreconf -vfi" is OK, your package then builds fine.

Thanks alot for your work - and sorry for my late response.

Unfortunately, it seems to me that your patch will interfere with
PowerPC machines, that also use OpenFirmware. Looking briefly on a
Macintosh at hand, it contains devspec files in sysfs too, but not the
modules.ofmap that your patch seems to rely on.

Could anyone check if I am right - and perhaps figure out a sane way to
deal with the different openfirmware implementations?

I do not want to argue with you the relevancy of
non-distributor-provided kernels.

I do want to understand if in fact applying this patch causes problems
for any kernels that works without this patch.

 Given that it uses a temporary file, a fsync should be enough IMHO.
O_SYNC looks like an overkill.

Hi,

additionally, config.{guess,sub} are outdated, which can be fixed by
copying those from the autotools-dev package. This can also be automated
by applying the instructions in autotools-dev's README.Debian.

Alternatively, you could run "autoreconf -vfi".

Unfortunately, that is not sufficient, .so files are still missing, so I
guess that some tweaks are needed. [And that's why I'm not tagging this
bugreport with 'patch'.]

Petr, could you please have a look at that or ask me to? I'll keep on

I just tried to build this package FS and eveything looks fine to me:
the build terminates with no error and .so files are there, so I guess

Resizing an ext3 partition on /dev/hdg3 using gparted failed with errors

report (see attachment), 'ls /dev/hd*' and 'cat /proc/partitions' seemed
to indicate /dev/hdg3 was no longer recognized by the system.
Luckily, rebooting and executing by hand the failing commands remedied
the situation.

Bug#416683: vm: Incompatible with Debian voting software

2007-03-30 Thread Dirk Eddelbuettel

You ztill so miss the point that it's laughable. It is about
DOCUMENTATION as well as the principle of leastt surprise.

Devotee fails on both. But sure, keep sending insulting emails.
That'll help. Not.

Well, you may disagree, and we almosted fighted in erkelenz over this, but if
someone is using an ancient kernel not in current etch or lenny, then he
should use the version of yaird which goes with it, namely the sarge version.

It is very probably that the absence of this patch will break yaird in lenny
even, or also the etch upgrade kernel at mid-live we have planned.

Furthermore, ancient kernels are no more supported in debian/etch anyway, due
to udev if nothing else, and the upgrade path does recomend upgrading the
kernel early on.

So, if you want to use a pre-etch kernel, then you should use the accompanying
pre-etch yaird.

Friendly,

Sven Luther

This looks like it's the smtpd that is receiving a connection from
somewhere. The problem might also be on the other side of the
connection.

Which seems to suggest to me it's either the client that's doing
something wrong, or some corruption between the client and the server
due to some switch or router going bad or something.

Bug#401043: gnome-panel: clock applet displays wrong time for appointments

> the clock applet displays incorrect time information for me.
> I've imported a web calendar; evolution correctly shows the events at
> 10am, but the clock applet always has them at 11am. (note that I'm in
> GMT+1)

Hi.

I have seen this a couple of times too now, it seem the timezone data is
not being used correctly in some cases.

For a couple of appointments I created a week ago, the timezone data was
not set at all, (Evolution still showed the correct time, but the applet
was one hour late). When I create a new appointment now, timezone data
is set and both Evolution and the applet show correct time.

As for your calendar, the first time I added it I could reproduce your
bug, and the timezone didn't seem to be used by evolution. At the moment
I don't seem to be able to add it at all (nothing shows up in Evolution
for the dates).

I found an old upstream bug about this behaviour, if I can reproduce the
bug again I will reopen it.

Hi,

this is not (or no longer) accurate, since the builds doesn't fail,
rather the packages are useless, since there are no .so files in them.

Alternatively, running "autoreconf -vfi" gives a successful and correct
build.

So feel free. Or is all ou can do is harangue other people to

This is bullcrap. It is not "This is the way we have always
done it" -- this is about basic competence on the part of the voters,
and their taking responsibility for learning how to do a basic thing
like send mail that meets 10 year old standards.

No new way of doing things is being peoposed. You are merely
whining about not being spoonfed, about not doing basic lookup on
google that tells even novices about how to send mail securely.

This whole lack of taking personal respnibility for sending
mail, and for learning how to use your tools, does not meet any
sympathy from me, which is hwat this whole whinge session has been
about.

Oooh, please, please, spoon feed me is not what I expect from
my peers, and is not somthing I am going to support.

Hi,

this is not (or no longer) accurate, since the build doesn't fail, but
the packages are lacking a part of their content, like: no .so file is
present in them.

You can also run "autoreconf -vfi" instead of these instructions, the
build is then OK and correct.

Um... nothing.

It doesn't start at all. The shutdown you see was a previous mysql version.
It worked before I did an apt-get upgrade (but I didn't write down what version
I had as I didn't expect any problems). I couldn't get it to work, and I
reinstalled from the version in etch. When I reinstalled the unstable version
to get the log message, it stopped the mysql from etch, which is what the log
I sent you was.

Or is the new build depending on a particular kernel feature at compile time?
I am asking because I compile my own kernel and it is not the "latest" kernel
series; squid also gives me problem since a number of months ago and I was
told that squid will never be fixed, so I am setting apt to hold squid to
avoid the new builds from getting installed.

It's on the /var partition which is 63% full. There is 231M available.

Bug#409217: Still problems, but have I found the answer?

2007-03-30 Thread Chris Bell
Hello,
 Apt-proxy stores its data in /var/cache/apt-proxy with owner aptproxy and
group nogroup with permissions 700 (not sure why there is restricted read
access). It then tries to read the Release and Release.gpg files (and
probably all others) in /var/lib/apt which are owned by root, with no other
access allowed, instead of /var/cache/apt-proxy where it does have access
permissions. It is therefore unable to provide these files. Not even
aptitude running on the box that is also running apt-proxy is able to obtain
these files from apt-proxy.

Bug#416863: Causes FTBFS with GCC 4.3: meaning of "inline" changed in C99

2007-03-30 Thread Martin Michlmayr
Package: libglib2.0-dev

Bug#416862: O: mutt-ng

2007-03-30 Thread Elimar Riesebieter
Package: mutt-ng
Severity: normal

I hereby want to orphan mutt-ng as ist isn't maintained upstream
anymore [0]. To synchronise the package with mutt and fix the new
and upcoming security issues isn't my intetion as I then have to
carry over the upstream work.

[0] http://mutt-ng.supersized.org/

The best would be to remove it out of the pool as it actually only
resides in experimental. It was a great idea to create a mutt by
user-wishes. but I think mutt 1.6 will be a well featured one and
hopefully the sidebar patch will be adoptet by upstream or at least
by the mutt maintainers?

Thanks Andreas Kremmair <>,
Rocco Rutte <> and Nico Golde <> for
their great work to the package.

Elimar

Hi.

This is not exactly accurate: the package builds, but incorrectly,

And what does it say before that? I.e. when it starts? Maybe something
interesting there.

The only reason I know why mysql completetly "stoppes" but still not crashes
is when it tries to write but there is not enough space on the disc.

Do you use innodb so that it maybe tries to extend the table space? On
which partition is it?

2007-03-30 Thread Nicolas
Package: postfix
Version: 2.4.0-1
Followup-For: Bug #416765

Hello,

Postfix doesn't start on my system either. It worked fine for several years,
but since the last upgrade, it doesn't start.
I tried /etc/init.d/postfix start. It says:
Starting Postfix Mail Transport Agent: postfix.

However, it's not started. Moreover, there's no error message in any file of
/var/log

Nicolas.

The evidence so far appears to show that bts is correctly generating a
message to control@ and that it's leaving your machine. I've CCed the
BTS administrators on this message.

Do you have a message-ID for the mail you sent?

ever arrived at bugs.d.o?

Bug#416847: not starting

Package: crack-attack
Followup-For: Bug #416847

Hi René,

it's working here.

> *** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x006c1760 ***

Because crack-attack is completely written in C++, I think the bad
free() call is done by a library, for example Gtk+ or mesa.

Perhaps, mesa (libgl1-mesa-glx/libglu1-mesa) is the bad guy, because
my libGL.so, libGLU.so, ... have been overwritten by the NVidia installer
and all the other libraries and versions are the same that you use.
(But I don't see a corresponding bug report for the mesa libraries.)

We're using TLS with postfix 2.3.6-1. One of our servers reported the
following errors a few times:

I tried this command you suggested several times and wasn't able to
reproduce the error:

openssl s_client -starttls smtp -crlf -connect localhost:25 -bugs -no_ssl2

Actually, this happened a few times and hasn't happened since, so I'm
inclined not to worry too much about it.

Thanks for your help.

This really should have been fixed in 0.9.8c-4. This has also been
fixed upstream in the 0.9.8c version. No version in etch should be
affected by this bug.

You're also like the only one complaining, so I have the feeling
something else is wrong.

Can you tell me a little more about the problem you're seeing? Is it
easy to reproduce? Can you reproduce it using openssl?

Is it a self written application, or something else that's available
in Debian?

Do you know what the other side of the connection is using?

There are some other "bad record MAC" bugs open. I think most of them
are related to multithreaded applications that don't use the
CRYPTO_set_locking_callback() and CRYPTO_set_id_callback() functions.

I believe the reason I didn't propose a patch to do this was precisely
because of --cflags handling, since xft does include some fontconfig headers
that clients will need to find the path for.

Thanks for the detailed info, Sven.

I did notice shortly after firing off that email that indeed the ofmap
file is present for a 2.6.18 kernel, only not for that ancient 2.6.8
kernel I was looking at at first.

This raises another question: It seems to me that this patch will fail
for kernels that offers devspec in sysfs but does not ship with a
modules.ofmap file.

If so, applying this patch will cause yaird to stop working on older
kernels that worked before.

Kind regards,

I'm not sure what the bug is. If I knew, this bug would be tagged +
patch.

It appears that I even get a syslog message that the message is sent,
but nothing happens.

(221 smtp102.sbc.mail.re2.yahoo.com) uid=1000

So is the message getting lost in transit? or is bugs.debian.org
silently dropping it?

Bug#416860: O: mutt-ng

2007-03-30 Thread Elimar Riesebieter
Package: wnpp

The config.{guess,sub} are also outdated, which you can fix easily by
copying those from the autotools-dev package (/usr/share/misc) over the
oudated ones. You could want to automate this copy, which is explained
in autotools-dev's README.Debian.

Running "autoreconf -vfi" is also OK.

nice lesson Erik, now is my turn.

i) no, it isn't, clearly, a shell error, if you read the whole line i
hope you'll see only ONE double quote. Every normal sysadmin would note
that. At the first check.

ii) let's strace runner process with DAEMON_ARGS="-w -t 300 -p 5000 -l
/home/netflow/ -D -u nfcapd -g nfcapd -x "/home/netflow/stuff/process.sh
%f\"" :

lattepiu:/home/oggei# strace -fp 17533 2>&1 | egrep process

[pid 17543] execve("\"/home/netflow/stuff/process.sh",
["\"/home/netflow/stuff/process.sh"], [/* 17 vars */]) = -1 ENOENT (No
such file or directory)

have you got the point, now ?

For the moment, i made a shell script /usr/local/bin/nfcapd already
configured for my needs.

I suspect some bad habit of start-stop-daemon (!), in fact is a not so
common practice to pass via command line multi-word params for daemons.
So maybe it still doesn't manage shell escaping very well.

Do you want help me to track down this one ?

Bug#416859: FTBFS with GCC 4.3: the meaning of "inline" changed in C99

2007-03-30 Thread Martin Michlmayr

Your package fails to build with GCC 4.3. Version 4.3 has not been
released yet but I'm building with a snapshot in order to find errors
and give people an advance warning. In C99 the meaning of "inline"
changed, see http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=31389

Bug#416858: ekiga: GUI does not show up

2007-03-30 Thread Willi Mann
Package: ekiga
Version: 2.0.3-5
Severity: important

Ekiga does not come up with a GUI. The process seems to hang when I
start it. However, it makes a very strange connection to an FTP server:

$ LANG=C netstat -anpe --tcp --udp | grep ekiga
tcp0 0 192.168.1.101:48979 195.58.170.15:21 ESTABLISHED 1000
22916 8443/ekiga

Wireshark shows that it tries to resolve www.wmi.at, where wmi.at is the
domain name of this machine, and 195.58.170.15 is www.wmi.at. The
connection only contains messages from the FTP Server:

220 ProFTPD 1.2.10 Server
421 Login Timeout

There isn't even a note on the command-line, explaining what it does,
even with debug set to 4. (which only shows detection of the multimedia
devices)

Note that it works on one of my other machines.

Bug#416857: FTBFS with GCC 4.3: the meaning of "inline" changed in C99

2007-03-30 Thread Martin Michlmayr
Package: tcpreplay
Version: 2.99+3.0.beta11-4
Usertags: ftbfs-gcc-4.3
Tags: patch

Your package fails to build with GCC 4.3. Version 4.3 has not been
released yet but I'm building with a snapshot in order to find errors
and give people an advance warning. In C99 the meaning of "inline"
changed, see http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=31389
A patch for this problem is below.

Bug#416856: svn-buildpackage: Copies unversioned files explicitly listed in svn:ignore property

2007-03-30 Thread Mike McCallister
Package: svn-buildpackage
Version: 0.6.16etch1
Severity: normal

I normally keep some unversioned files in my working copy that I use
during development but do not want distributed as part of the source
.tar.gz. In order to avoid having these files clutter my "svn status"
output, I use the svn:ignore property on the directory to exclude them
by name and by pattern (e.g., ignore "testfile" and "testfile-*.gz").
This causes svn status to be quiet about the listed files/patterns
(meaning, it does not list them as "?" status files).

The 0.6.16etch1 version of svn-buildpackage includes unversioned files
that are listed in the svn:ignore property in the built .tar.gz file.

Based on my reading of
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=414547;msg=51, this
is a bug. It seems like svn-buildpackage's behavior should be
functionally equivalent to that of "svn export". "svn export" skips
files that unversioned, whether they are listed in the svn:ignore
property or not.

The same files are excluded from the built .tar.gz file if they are
not listed in the svn:ignore property, which is the behavior I would
expect. This is a suitable workaround for now, although it makes my
svn status output cluttered and unpleasant to look at.
