It's basically ready. Both twistedsnmp and pysnmp-se are available in
the repository of the python-modules team on alioth (and hence both ITP
are marked as pending). I'm test driving the draft packages daily and
they work properly. Tomorrow or Tuesday at last I will do the upload to
unstable.

Thanks for pinging me.

Hi,

I didn't notice that, and I must confess that checking popcon and
upstream statuses for each package we reported a bug against would be
quite a gigantic task, that's why we ping maintainers; thank you for
your time.

Well, guess I am to blame for this confusion: Didn't find Marc-André's
package initially, so I started independently.

Seems Marc-André likes the compact CDBS approach I found by
accident. ;-)

> Marc-André, Mathias: who is going to maintain the package for Debian?

I am very interested in getting that package into Debian (and Ubunutu).
So I am interested in keeping that package up-to-date. On the other hand
I don't have much knowledge about Debian package maintenance and I also
do not want to dive too deeply into this matter. So I am pretty fine, if
we both are listed as maintainer, but I'll also will not hide, when
Marc-André wants to focus on other things but the vala package. Just
need someone who tolds me, when I do not meet Debians packaging
standards.

My packaging variant should be found within this ticket. License? Didn't
expect I'd have to declare some license terms for stuff like packaging.
Expected packaging to happen under the same license as the packaged
application -- LGPL-2.1 in the case of Vala.

Oh, after reading the Marc-André's initial diff I see my mistakes.
Seems like Unbuntu is more lax regarding content of the copyright file.

Marc-André is not to blame for those regressions. It was me who didn't
pay enough attention to detail for the reason of not understanding them
all.

Config.guess and .sub are not updated anymore, as I removed
simple-patchsys.mk, which merges buildcore.mk from my rules file.

Going to update the diff right now.

These functions are hooks that themselves only are run if other OSes are

Bug#396037: libgl1-mesa-dri: i915 OpenGL severely broken

2007-04-01 Thread Martin Pärtel
Yeah, sorry, that was a messy post. I hope this one is a bit better.

* Behaviour with unstable packages:
libdrm2_2.0.2-0.1_i386.deb
libdrm-dev_2.0.2-0.1_i386.deb
libgl1-mesa-dev_6.5.1-0.6_i386.deb
libgl1-mesa-dri_6.5.1-0.6_i386.deb
libgl1-mesa-glx_6.5.1-0.6_i386.deb
mesa-common-dev_6.5.1-0.6_all.deb
xserver-xorg-core_1.1.1-20_i386.deb
xserver-xorg-video-i810_1.7.2-4_i386.deb

As described in the initial bugreport: OpenGL apps don't work unless
LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT is set. With LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT I get lots of
rendering artifacts (e.g. the sun is missing a quarter of its halo in
Celestia, textures blinking in nexuiz).

(xserver-xorg-core is the only package that has changed here since the initial
bug report. 1.1.1-18 => 1.1.1-20)

* Behaviour with old experimental packages from previous e-mail:
libdrm2_2.3.0-1_i386.deb
libdrm-dev_2.3.0-1_i386.deb
libgl1-mesa-dev_6.5.2-3_all.deb
libgl1-mesa-dri_6.5.2-3_i386.deb
libgl1-mesa-glx_6.5.2-3_i386.deb
mesa-common-dev_6.5.2-3_all.deb
xserver-xorg-core_1.2.0-4_i386.deb

- LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT causes the exact same rendering bugs but OpenGL
programs now work properly _without_ it (although with a warning about a
missing visual).

- Putting Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" in the device section fixes at least
a bug with Beryl/Compiz where windows don't redraw themselves in "texture
from pixmap" mode. Load "dbe" in Section "module" doesn't seem to have any
effect after all.

* Behaviour with latest experimental packages:
xserver-xorg-core_1.2.99.903-1_i386.deb
xserver-xorg-video-i810_1.9.93-1_all.deb
xserver-xorg-video-intel_1.9.93-1_i386.deb

Same as with the previous experimental packages as far as I can tell except
for some new issues:
- Exiting X or switching to a console VT while beryl is running almost always
causes the machine to freeze!

- Even when Beryl is not running X prints the following on exit:
"(EE) intel(0): I830 Vblank PipeSetup Failed 0"

- X also always prints the following warning while starting up:
"(WW) intel(0): xf86AllocateGARTMemory: allocation of 10 pages failed
(Cannot allocate memory)"

- Some of Beryl's Emerald themes render incorrectly.

So the best combination for me was:
- Mesa 6.5.2-3
- libdrm2_2.3.0-1
- xserver-xorg-core_1.2.0-4
- xserver-xorg-video-i810_1.7.2-4 (the one in unstable)
- NO special envvars
- Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" if running Beryl or Compiz.

Debian and Ubuntu packaging are pretty close, but I think that, as you
noted, Debian has higher standards for some things like the copyright
file; beside, as a sponsor I have to enforce higher than average
 standards to new maintainers.
The real question is whether you, Mathias, accept responsability for
bugs in the Debian distributions or not. You can be listed as
Maintainer or Uploader in Debian, but only if this means that you can
be contacted for bugs in Debian and if you accept responsability to fix
RC bugs timely (or to call for help).
I hope I don't sound too "official", I wanted to make it clear what
should draw the line of who gets listed in the control file in Debian.

So, Mathias: are you interested in being listed as a Maintainer or
Uploader? I would certainly value your participation in the Debian
packaging as I've seen you contributed some patches to vala upstream.
 :)

Perhaps this is the occasion for you to work directly in Debian; as I
understand it, every upload in Debian can be merged in Ubuntu
semi-automatically. Who knows what charms you'll discover in Debian!

Not everybody does declare a license on the packaging. I think it's
legitimate to claim copyright and licensing given the amount of time
some packages need, but I rarely claim these myself.
However, as some persons do, and because the new dh_make templates
encourage this, I must double-check the licensing of anything used to
create Debian packages, such as your packaging here.

> Seems like Unbuntu is more lax regarding content of the copyright file.

Yes; I had to redo the copyright in all packages I grabbed from Ubuntu
until now due to these double standards. The Debian standards are
truly enforced by our ftpmasters. You can learn more in the NEW FAQ:
  which points at:

> Config.guess and .sub are not updated anymore, as I removed
> simple-patchsys.mk, which merges buildcore.mk from my rules file.

debhelper.mk will pull buildcore.mk as well; but you need to build-dep
on autotools-dev for config.guess and config.sub to be present in the
build environment, otherwise cdbs' buildcore can't update these.

 Bye,

PS: please send me packages as URLs to a .dsc which I can dget or attach
both the .dsc and the .diff.gz; it's far safer.

As I wrote, I believe there is two different bugs here.

Bug#366146: libfann: new upstream release includes debian packaging

2007-04-01 Thread Steffen Nissen

The 2.0.0 package was made and uploaded, but it was rejected due to some
problems with the versioning. I was not complete sure how to alter the
package so that it could be accepted, and due to various circumstances a new
package was not made at that point.

Later on I tried to contact the sponsor for the package, in order to get his
help, but with no luck. If anyone is interested in sponsoring the package
and help creating the new package, please let me know.

Steffen

script. GRUB Invaders is a very small (~4kB) multiboot compliant Space
Invaders clone which runs directly on a computer (i386), without an
operating system. It is meant to be started with the GRUB bootloader for
PCs [0,1].

The game is not *yet* in Debian [2] but is still waiting in the NEW
queue [3]. If you want to have a look at the package or want to try out
the game please have a look at mentors.debian.net [4].

Please find attached a trivial patch (~10 lines)
for /usr/sbin/update-grub which adds support for the game. It is
basically the same code used for GRUB 2 chainloading and memtest86(+)
but with the strings renamed.

Description : A module for parsing, analyzing and manipulating latex
documents

This module provides a parser which parses and interprets (though not fully)
LaTeX documents and returns a tree-based representation of what it finds.
This tree is a LaTeX::TOM::Tree. The tree contains LaTeX::TOM:Node nodes.
 .
This module should be especially useful to anyone who wants to do processing
of LaTeX documents that requires extraction of plain-text information, or
altering of the plain-text components (or alternatively, the math-text
 components).

Bug#417041: console-data: patched qwerty/it.kmap with euro support

2007-04-01 Thread Federico Di Gregorio
Package: console-data
Version: 2:1.01-7
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

The attached it.kmap file has support for currency (euro, €) e cent
keycodes, using the standard altgr modifier. This is not enough to have
euro support in console (an appropriate font is necessary) but, at
least, solve half of the problem. (Selecting the right font is much
easier for a user than adding keycodes to their keymap.)

Hope this helps,
federico

Did you read the information given in the previous mail? If you read it

Bug#398198: Last update on pkg

2007-04-01 Thread Marc-André Lureau

Salut,

Loic, sorry for the mess, I was also a bit confused. Things are getting
clear now. And to state things better, I am perfectly happy if Mathias can
have the maintainership of the package. I will keep an eye on what's going
on, because it is very instructive for me too. I am probably as new as
Mathias in this world:)
The last diff proposed solve some of the remaining issues.

Still to do:
Add something like this in the changelog
* Diff accepted (Closes: #398198)

Add flex and pkg-config in build-dep.

Thank you guys!

Regards,

Bug#417044: gtk-qt-engine: Ships files in /usr/lib64/

2007-04-01 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: gtk-qt-engine
Version: 1:0.8~svn-rev31-3

Hi,

Your package is currently shipping files in /usr/lib64/kde3 on amd64
instead of /usr/lib/kde3. This will break systems in case dpkg tries to
remove the /usr/lib64/kde3 and /usr/lib64 directories.

The problem is that /usr/lib64 is not a directory, but a symlink, and
dpkg will remove the symlink and break the system.

The version in testing properly has it's files in /usr/lib/kde3.

Ah, so now I'm confused again: do you want to be listed in
Uploaders/Maintainer and take responsability for the package as well?
I don't care whether you want to be in Uploaders _or_ Maintainer, but
only whether you want to take responsability or not. :)

Guys, if you want to work together on the package, I suggest we start
importing it now in the Alioth collab-maint SVN. We can then all
subscribe to commits, uploads, and bugs individually.

Please let me know if it's ok for you to maintain the debian/ in SVN
on Alioth with the help of svn-buildpackage, and give me your Alioth
login so that I can request your addition to the collab-maint project
 as external maintainers.

Bug#417048: RFP: PtolemyII -- Heterogeneous Modeling and Design in Java

2007-04-01 Thread Martin Kolář
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RFP: PtolemyII -- Heterogeneous Modeling and Design in Java
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

Upstream Author : Prof. Edward A. Lee [EMAIL PROTECTED]
URL: http://ptolemy.berkeley.edu/ptolemyII/
License : UC Berkeley copyright
Programming Lang : Java
Description: Heterogeneous Modeling and Desing in Java

Ptolemy II is a software framework developed as part of the Ptolemy
project.
It is a Java-based component assembly framework with a graphical user interface
called Vergil. Vergil itself is a component assembly defined in Ptolemy II.

The Ptolemy project studies modeling, simulation, and design of concurrent,
real-time, embedded systems. The focus is on assembly of concurrent components.
The key underlying principle in the project is the use of well-defined models
of
computation that govern the interactions between components. A major problem
area being addressed is the use of heterogeneous mixtures of models of
 computation.

The Ptolemy Project (http://ptolemy.eecs.berkeley.edu) contains much more
information about the project. The work is conducted in the Department of
Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences of the University of California at
Berkeley. The project is directed by Prof. Edward A. Lee
(http://ptolemy.eecs.berkeley.edu/~eal) The project is named after Claudius
Ptolemaeus, the second century Greek astronomer, mathematician, and geographer.

Ptolemy II is free for academic and commercial use. You an incorporate it
into products, but you need to include follow the instructions in the copyright
 notice.

Bug#398198: Last update on pkg

2007-04-01 Thread Loïc Minier
I checked the delta between your 0.0.8-2 and 0.0.8-3 diffs; the
"pre-build:: update-config" is useless, as I said cdbs will update
config.guess and config.sub automatically by default.

The copyright file is now good (even better than before), but the
 control file is lacking build-deps.

I'd prefer that you import stuff in SVN so that I can comment on a
version everybody agrees upon as the reference version. :)

/var/log/boot contains "(Nothing has been logged yet.)".

The machine is a quick etch install with very little changed (nothing related
to logging).

What is the default location for the log messages that you desire?

What about you look at the xen console while the guest boots and then

Bug#384653: bug with d-i parted and Sun disk labels

2007-04-01 Thread Josip Rodin
Hi,

I think I reproduced this the other day on my Fire v240.

Initially, the partitioner in d-i recognized all drives properly (which was
pretty cool to see!). But then, when I created a new disk label in order to
remove the old partitions (from Solaris), and went on to create a new one,
it only saw some 13 GB out of 36 total. This didn't bother me at the time
because I only wanted a 5 GB partition, but still, it was strange.

And later, after the system was installed, I went to create partitions on
another two 72 GB disks in the system, but only got 13 GB.

Then I went into fdisk, created a new Sun disk label, used the
custom+autodetect option, and pressed enter on almost all the options
(I only changed the RPM setting, but I don't see how that should have
affected the partition table), and now it seems fine, all ~72 GB are there.

One thing that struck me in fdisk was that I kept seeing the number of
8922 cylinders, both in the good and the bad result.

So now I checked the 36 GB disks again, and here it is:

% sudo fdisk -l /dev/sd{a,b}

Disk /dev/sda (Sun disk label): 27 heads, 107 sectors, 4425 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 2889 * 512 bytes

   Device FlagStart EndBlocks Id System
/dev/sda1 0 3380 4882410 83 Linux native
/dev/sda3 0 4427 6394801+ 5 Whole disk

Disk /dev/sdb (Sun disk label): 27 heads, 107 sectors, 4425 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 2889 * 512 bytes

   Device FlagStart EndBlocks Id System
/dev/sdb3 0 24618 35559877+ 5 Whole disk

The disks are physically the same, but the special 3rd partition seems to
be broken on the first (the one where I created that 5GB partition).

Should I send over the first 512 bytes of both of those disks?

Bug#315009: md (software) RAID missing in the installer for sparc

2007-04-01 Thread Josip Rodin
Hi,

I couldn't help but notice that there is no support for software RAID arrays
in the sparc installer.

All I found to document it was:

partman-md (24) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Fabio M. Di Nitto ]
  * RAID cannot be selected if we are on sparc AND the partiton starts at 0
otherwise there will partition table corruption happening in the first
512 bytes of the disk.
(NOTE: this will work only once patch for sparc/raid support will make it
   in parted)
[...]
 -- Frans Pop <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sat, 29 Apr 2006 03:30:04 +0200

Oddly enough, I can't seem to find the problem there, because parted code
doesn't seem to have exceptions for sparc...

Some more digging excavated me the bug #315009, saying the "Use as: physical
volume for RAID" option is missing. That bug was closed with:

Date: Thu, 20 Apr 2006 17:45:22 -0300
[...]
 parted (1.6.25.1-3) unstable; urgency=low
[...]
   * Apply patch to fix RAID usage in SPARC. Thanks to Fabio Di Nitto
 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (Closes: #355467)

So how come this didn't propagate into debian-installer for etch?

Bug#417050: photon: Original images aren't displayed

2007-04-01 Thread mmassonnet
Package: photon
Version: 0.4.4-1
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***
If you run this command:
photon --thumbsize=50x50 --sizelist=0 -o photon ../images
photon will create a gallery, and copy the images from the source
directory verbatim (without any modification). Now if these files are
different then jpeg files, the html generated files will contain only
.jpg extension. Therefore I can display the images in their original
size.

A workaround is to execute:
for html in *.html ; do cat $html | sed -r \
's,(original)/([0-9]+)-(projet-tuteure)\.jpg,\1/\2-\3.png,' \
> $html ; done
afterwards.

Bug#417052: FTBFS with GCC 4.3: missing #pragma implementation

2007-04-01 Thread Martin Michlmayr
Package: ctsim
Version: 4.5.2-1.1
Usertags: ftbfs-gcc-4.3
Tags: patch

Your package fails to build with GCC 4.3. Version 4.3 has not been
released yet but I'm building with a snapshot in order to find errors
and give people an advance warning. I don' think this is really new
about 4.3, but it seems 4.3 exposes a problem that has been there
before. When you use #pragma interface (as you do), you really need
to use #pragma implementation too.

However, the GCC people think that #pragma should usually not be used
at all, so I suggest you use the #pragma interface. If it really
failed on FC4, maybe its's worth investigating why?

Background about this bug:

Yes.

> listed as ftp.in.debian.org). can i just leave it as the round-robin?

no, because :
- all the mirrors of ftp.us.d.o don't carry the same architecture
(saens.debian.org that is part of ftp.us.d.org doesn't carry hurd-i386)
If you will mirror from saens, all hurd-i386 packages of your mirror
will be removed.

- issues can happen, let us assume ftp.us.d.o is composed of A and B.
when both A and B are ok, no pb.
 * day 0 : A is now out of date and/or broken, but your are lucky, the
when you resolved ftp.us.d.o, B has been choosen.
 * day 1 : A is still out of date / broken, but this time, you resolve
to A, so you sync with the bad outdated mirror and delete all uptodate
files you fetched from B.
 * day 2 : pb on A not yet solved, but this time the ip returned is the
one of B, you fetch again all the files you deleted the day before.

and so on ..

Ok, so you have to specify in your script a upstream mirror with
hurd-i386.

Right this is indeed fixed in xserver-xorg. I tested against
1:7.1.0-7

I'm not quite sure what to do to the bug though? Reassign it to
xserver-xorg, mark it fixed in that version and mail -done perhaps?

Bug#417056: clamd.pid file is deleted after executing /etc/init.d/clamav-daemon reload-log

2007-04-01 Thread Virgo Pärna
Package: clamd
Severity: important

When /etc/init.d/clamav-daemon reload-log is executed, then
the clamd.pid file is deleted (there is message in clamd log file about
reloading log file). If you run /etc/init.d/clamav-daemon reload-log
again, then the log file does not get reloaded. As a result, after first
logrotate rotating clamd logs stops working. Same is true for freshclam
also.

The r stands for read, w stands for write. tcp_rmem affects the downloads,
tcp_wmem affects the uploads.

I'm not sure how the broken routers react, but I'd guess that the tcp_rmem
is the culprit because most non-advanced users do more download than upload.

The first value in those files is the minimum window size, the middle is the
default, and the third value is the maximum. TCP window size can (and
should) be stretched as allowed by the hardware; if you enlarge it, you make
more bytes go through the pipe in the same time intervals, so you need to
have CPU power to process it and memory to hold it. And so do all hops on
the packet path (routers and switches alike).

The thing that happened was that the kernel developers got tired of the
years-old fixated default maximum, and made it vary according to local
hardware parameters.

Here's an example default from a 2.4.31 machine:

% cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_{r,w}mem
409687380 174760
409616384 131072

(You can see there how killing off TCP window scaling altogether would have
been a bad idea - no packets would have been allowed to grow even a little
bit past the default size, as they were allowed in the old kernel versions,
even if by a fairly small amount.)

Here's an example default from a 2.6.18 on a machine with 384 MB RAM:

% cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_{r,w}mem
409687380 524288
409616384 524288

And here's an example default from a 2.6.18 on a 2 GB RAM machine:

% cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_{r,w}mem
409687380 4194304
409616384 4194304

I never checked exactly what the parameters for this new variation are,
but AFAIR RAM size is one of them.

This worked out well for the vast majority of people, but as always, there
are machines that don't follow protocols and can't handle these variations.
This is somewhat similar to the TCP ECN situation; Linux kernel using
features and finding a few bumps in the wild.

Bug#417060: rpmstrap: fakechroot/fakeroot support

2007-04-01 Thread Paul Wise
Package: rpmstrap
Version: 0.5.2-2
Severity: wishlist

It would be nice to be able to make chroots without having root access.
fakeroot and fakechroot are a couple of ways to achieve that, it would
be nice if rpmstrap supported them.

Bug#416676: gnokiid silently terminates after reading config file

Hi,

That is incorrect. You can use it just like a usual modem.

However, gnokiid reads the config file and then silently

gnokiid should print on stderr:

Doesn't it?

Bug#417067: lintian: outdated-autotools-helper-file doesn't apply if package build-depends on autoconf/automake

2007-04-01 Thread Jordà Polo
Package: lintian
Version: 1.23.28
Severity: normal

According to the detailed error message for
«outdated-autotools-helper-file», packages that don't depend on
autotools-dev do not update config.{guess,sub}.

But I'm not sure about that... it is possible to use `autoreconf' and
force an update of the auxiliary files, build-depending on autoconf and
automake only. Since automake depends on autotools-dev already, and the
involved files aren't directly used at all (autoreconf takes care of it),
there is no real need to build-depend on autotools-dev too.

Patch for a t-p-u 0.9.1.-1.1 package is attached.

It actually works around the upstream broken build system wrt l10n issues.

Here's the output of dpkg-parsechangelog:

Source: democracyplayer
Version: 0.9.1-1.1
Distribution: testing-proposed-updates
Urgency: low
Maintainer: Eddy Petrișor <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Date: Sun, 1 Apr 2007 16:23:02 +0300
Closes: 401569 401569 402262 402262
Changes:
 democracyplayer (0.9.1-1.1) testing-proposed-updates; urgency=low
 .
   * Non-maintainer upload.
   * Fix incorrect plural form for Romanian (Closes: #401569)
   * Correct typos and also update both, the Brazilian Portuguese
and the Spanish translations (Closes: #402262). Patches were took
from 0.9.2.1-2.1. Also modifed a little the Spanish one to remove a couple
 of warnings during package build
   * ugly fix to install all available translations in the package, not only
ones that have .mo files already compiled in the upstream source
(Closes: #402262, #401569) - this works around the broken upstream build
system that is present in the upstream source
   * add gettext as a build dependency to allow the former

These changes were neede because the upstream build system does not rebuild and
install the .mo files at each build, as it would be normal, but instead it just
installs the mo files which are present in the upstream source. This has the
side effect that although there are 30 po files in the upstream source, only 12
mo files are installed, and (probably) all of them are outdated wrt to the po
files in the source.

This is the main reason why neither 0.9.2.1-2 nor 0.9.2.1-2.1 did really fix the
bugs 401569 and 402262.

Bug#417068: abbreviation "DTD" used in long package description

2007-04-01 Thread Fabian Greffrath
package: openoffice.org-dtd-officedocument1.0
version: 2.2.0-1
severity: minor

Hi Rene,

the package description says:
(...)
This package contains the DTD of the OpenOffice.org 1.x(!) XML
file format.

I think at least in the long package description the phrasing "Document
Type Definitions (DTD)" should be used instead of only the
abbreviation.

I can only speak for myself, but I did not know what the package
contains until I searched the web for "DTD". ;)

Cheers,
Fabian

Hi everybody,

I just made what I hope will be the last source commits to the CVS. I
will notify the translators mailing list so they update the
translations before KCheckGMail 0.5.6 is released.
Pierre, you can now have the latest version by installing the package
from http://deb.atomo64.puffinhost.com/

Bug#417073: parted: trouble growing an old ext2 partition

2007-04-01 Thread J S Bygott
Package: parted
Version: 1.7.1-3
Severity: normal

Parted says "You found a bug in GNU Parted!".

But even before it said that, a resize command seems to have failed silently.

I'm attaching a log file with details. I'm going to leave the offending
partitions alone for a while, in case you get back to me for further details.

At the start of the logfile, we have
 5 7230MB 9377MB 2147MB logical ext2/usr
 6 9377MB 10.2GB 806MB logical ext2(old /var) to be deleted
 7 10.2GB 11.8GB 1612MB logical ext2/home
 8 11.8GB 12.0GB 197MB logical ext2(old /tmp) to be deleted

My plan was to delete the partitions currently numbered 6 and 8, and
grow /usr and /home to fill the new space.

As the logfile shows:
 - my first attempt to resize 5 failed silently (this seems bad!)

 - my second attempt gives a lot of warnings of the type:
Warning: Block 786702 shouldn't have been marked (0, 1)!
   and then:
Error: Attempt to read sectors -2--1 outside of partition on /dev/hda.
Ignore/Cancel? c

 - when I cancelled, parted said that I'd found a bug, and then:
Error: SEGV_MAPERR (Address not mapped to object)Aborted

Later by contrast, removing (the old) 8 and growing /home worked perfectly.

It seems to me that:

 - it's bad that the first resize failed *silently*

 - some documentation on what the warnings mean and whether they are
safe to ignore would we welcome

Trying the same resize again gives the same errors. For the time being, I'm
not going to try anything else with that partition and that free space, in
case you want some more information, a backtrace or something.

I can give more details of the partition's history:

(January 2000)
- win98SE installer used to make /dev/hda1; win98SE installed there
- slink installer used to make other partitions
- only further change in seven years was updating the swap-partition type

(March 2007)
- booted testing etch from /dev/hdb

- dumped the disk layout with "sfdisk -d"
(for clarity, I've added another column to show the normal mount points)

# partition table of /dev/hda
unit: sectors

/dev/hda1 : start= 63, size= 13349952, Id= b
/dev/hda2 : start= 13350015, size= 257040, Id=83, bootable/
/dev/hda3 : start= 13607055, size= 13092975, Id= 5
/dev/hda4 : start=0, size=0, Id= 0
/dev/hda5 : start= 13607118, size= 256977, Id=82 swap
/dev/hda6 : start= 13864158, size= 256977, Id=82 swap
/dev/hda7 : start= 14121198, size= 4192902, Id=83 /usr
/dev/hda8 : start= 18314163, size= 1574307, Id=83 /var
/dev/hda9 : start= 19888533, size= 3148677, Id=83 /home
/dev/hda10: start= 23037273, size= 3662757, Id=83 /tmp

- used parted 1.7.1-3 from testing to make successful changes to /dev/hda
  as follows:

- rm 6 (old-style 128MB swap partition for kernel < 2.1.xxx)
- rm 5 (old-style 128MB swap partition for kernel < 2.1.xxx)
- resize 3 7230 13670 (shrink extended partition now that swap is gone)
- resize 2 6834 7033 (grow root partition by 50%)
- mkpartfs primary linux-swap 7033 7230 (single bigger swap, ~192MB)

- new output from "sfdisk -d"
# partition table of /dev/hda
unit: sectors

/dev/hda1 : start= 63, size= 13349952, Id= b
/dev/hda2 : start= 13350015, size= 385560, Id=83, bootable /
/dev/hda3 : start= 14121135, size= 12578895, Id= 5
/dev/hda4 : start= 13735575, size= 385560, Id=82 swap
/dev/hda5 : start= 14121198, size= 4192902, Id=83 /usr

/dev/hda8 : start= 23037273, size= 3662757, Id=83 /tmp

- used parted 1.7.1-3 to make more changes as follows:

- resize 8 23037273s 23422769s (down to size by which /home will grow)
- mkpart logical ext2 23422833s 25125659s (this will be the new /var)
- cp 6 9 (paranoid: use cp (not move) so I can mount both for 'diff -R')
- mkpart logical ext2 25125723s 26700029s (this will be the new /tmp)
- cp 8 10 (paranoid again)

- rebooted; did my paranoid checks; ready to erase the old partitions
- rm 6 (the old /var), see logfile
- failure to grow /usr (the reason for this bugreport)
- rm 7 (the new minor number for the old /tmp)
- success with growing /home

I'm including a patch for the problem below, but I'm not sure whether
are more problems.

Hi Rene,

AFAICT the Tango icons are licensed under the 'CC by-sa 2.5' license
which is considered non-free by Debian (see tango-icon-theme package). I
do not know if the icons shipped with OOo are under the same license,
but if they are, at least this package would become non-free and make
OOo possibly contrib.

The copyright file for the OOo packages does not tell about the licenses
for the icon sets. Furthermore it states that the sources were obtained
from http://download.openoffice.org/1.1.0/source.html which reveals,
that the information contained in this file is outdated anyway.

However, if this is bug is false alarm, please accept my apology and
close it or downgrade severity appropriately. The debian/copyright file
should be reviewed nevertheless.

Cheers,
Fabian

Bug#417078: FTBFS with GCC 4.3: missing #includes

2007-04-01 Thread Martin Michlmayr
Package: adplug
Version: 2.0.1-4
Usertags: ftbfs-gcc-4.3
Tags: patch

Your package fails to build with GCC 4.3. Version 4.3 has not been
released yet but I'm building with a snapshot in order to find errors
and give people an advance warning. In GCC 4.3, the C++ header
dependencies have been cleaned up. The advantage of this is that
programs will compile faster. The downside is that you actually
need to directly #include everything you use (but you really should
do this anyway, otherwise your program won't work with any compiler
other than GCC). Some background of this can be found at
http://gcc.gnu.org/PR28080

You can reproduce this problem with gcc-snapshot from unstable.

Bug#417087: madwifi-source: module load problem with 2.6.20

2007-04-01 Thread Anders Boström
Package: madwifi-source
Version: 1:0.9.2+r2156.20070225-1
Severity: important

After upgrade to 2.6.20.2 and madwifi 1:0.9.2+r2156.20070225-1, my
computer hang during boot, at module load of the madwifi modules.

Ctrl-C breaks up the hang, but X fails to start after this.

If I disable loading of the madwifi-modules during boot, the system
boot fine.

'modprobe ath_pci' hangs, and Ctrl-C don't work. kill of the
khelper-started modprobe-process breaks up the hang.

I can get the madwifi-driver working by this sequence:

# modprobe wlan
# insmod /lib/modules/2.6.20.2/kernel/drivers/net/ath_hal.ko
# insmod /lib/modules/2.6.20.2/kernel/drivers/net/ath_rate_sample.ko
# ifup ath0

modprobe of ath_rate_sample or ath_hal tries to load ath_pci and
hangs. This is strange as neither ath_rate_sample nor ath_hal is
dependent of ath_pci according to modinfo.

If seems like ath_pci fails due to missing ath_rate_sample when I run
'modprobe ath_pci' without prior manual load of ath_rate_sample, see
dmesg output below.

I have the same problem. It turns out that there's a permission
problem. For some reason, the postinst script which corrects the
ownership of /etc/at.deny did not work. I have at 3.1.10 installed,
but:

burnside:~ # ls -l /etc/at.deny

Weird or what?

It seems to behave more or less like in the past (format slightly
changed) so yes, it seems a good solution. OTOH, it seems other params
are also needed to keep the old behaviour about log reports, so
probably worth documenting too that they should be added, not just -W,
if you want old style; or even put as commented out line in shipped
config file.
