This is fixed in the latest version in unstable: 1.1.3.0

The album images are now larger than before, but fixed at 137x137.
Let me know if this takes care of the problem, or if you'd still like
to keep the bug open for the sake of the image size.

Cheers,

John Stamp

This should be fixed in 1:3.6.2-4, though it will probably take some
time for this version to enter testing because of the glibc
transition.

I guess 'addictional' should be read 'additional'. :-)

I think that the maintainer accidentially killed the dh_shlibdeps call
in debian/rules while getting rid of the libgcompris packages. Simply
adding it back to binary-arch will generate the dependancies.

OK, I have been able to see something weird: I have created 2 folders
(namely SOURCE_FOLDER and TARGET_FOLDER). I have noticed that the
messages were not moved to from SOURCE_FOLDER to TARGET_FOLDER the
second time I move a mail in a short time and without doing anything
else before doing this (ie. not changing folder etc.)

The CAMEL_DEBUG=all is very verbose, but here is what I have seen when
the issue happens:
CamelFolder:get_message('INBOX/SOURCE_FOLDER', '68') =
class: CamelMimeMessage
mime-type: text/plain
content class: CamelDataWrapper

CamelException.setv(0x89750dc, 2, 'Failed to cache : No such file or directory')

Where it should be something like:
CamelFolder:get_message('INBOX/SOURCE_FOLDER', '70') =
class: CamelMimeMessage
mime-type: text/plain
content class: CamelDataWrapper
content mime-type: text/plain

I have also noticed that the fact I find my messages in the trash folder
is normal: the messages are not directly moved, but are instead copied
and then marked as deleted.

Does it help?

Bug#423476: Internal portaudio v19 libraries crash against JACK on AMD64

2007-05-11 Thread Emmet Hikory

Package: audacity
Version: 1.3.2-2
Tags: patch
Severity: wishlist

The JACK interface of the internal portaudio libraries used by
audacity do not have proper memory bounds checking for 64-bit
architectures (see bug 406754 for discussion). The decision taken by
the portaudio maintainer appears to have been to disable JACK for
architectures other than i386 and powerpc. Please consider the
attached patch as a similar workaround for the audacity package, until
such time as this issue is fullly addressed.

   Thank you.

Well I hope you'll consider the question. A few thoughts on humor...

It's like the code equivalent of a "sick joke", e.g.:

Kid: Mommy! Mommy! Daddy's on fire!
Mom: Quick! Get the Marshmallows!

I like some humor in computer texts. My favorite examples are Russ
Walter's 'Secret Guide To Computers', Leo Brodie's 'Forth' books, or
Michele Andreoli's 'muLinux' docs; all have concise information
leavened with humor. A weak example is the "...for Dummies" books
which pours gooey humor syrup over a hastily prepared dish, a cheap
artificial sweetener. Larry Wall's 'perl' humor falls somewhere in the
middle.

Now the 'kill -9' example isn't in such bad taste as:

# Play Linux Russian Roulette -- as root!
# Silently background delete 10 random files.
rm -f `locate --regex '.*' | rl --count=10` > /dev/null 2>&1 &

...which would be wrong to put in a man page.

Does sick humor belong in a man page example? I'd say only if it's
fantasy, (data), but not if it's functional, (code). To compare it to
another kind of program, the black humor of 'Missile Command', 'Eliza',
or even 'Grand Theft Auto' I'd accept as valid, (since those don't
harm the material world), but the obstructive humor of the virus
writer or cracker, though amusing to its author, is generally
inappropriate.

Summing up: if users can't run it, that's no example.

> ...I like the idea of playing the last so many number of files though but I
> don't like using the output of ls because many people alias ls to pass

Try '/bin/ls -c'?

Further examples:

# shuffle a deck of cards
seq 52 | rl

# garble a string
S="hello world"
echo $S | sed 's/\(.\)/\1\n/g' | rl | tr -d '\n' ; echo

# mix the words in a sentence
S="the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."
echo "$S" | sed 's/\( \)/\n/g' | rl | tr '\n' ' ' ; echo

# roll Monopoly dice (2d6) (needs 'dc')
dc -e "`seq 6 | rl -rc 2` + p"

# do that 5000 times, (slow!), make a sorted table of results
for f in `seq 5000`; do dc -e "`seq 6 | rl -rc 2` + p"; done | sort -g
| uniq -c

# same thing, only much faster
seq 6 | rl -rc 1 | while read a; do read b; echo $(($a + $b)); done
| sort -g | uniq -c

# print the words of a sentence in random colors
S="the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."
seq 31 40 | rl -rc 100 | for f in $S ; do read c ; /bin/echo -ne
"\033[$c\155$f " ; done ; echo

HTH...

Bug#348641: keepalive within redir

2007-05-11 Thread Daniel Kahn Gillmor
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

tags 348641 + wontfix
thanks

Hi Andreas--

Sorry to take so long to respond to this feature request.

It sounds like you're suggesting that redir use TCP keepalive
settings. Note that this is different from openssh's
ServerAliveInterval and ServerAliveCountMax settings, and more
analogous to openssh's TCPKeepAlive option (man ssh_config for more
details).

the programming details of how this might be done are suggested here:

  http://tldp.org/HOWTO/html_single/TCP-Keepalive-HOWTO/

note that there are 3 prospective options for each connection (named
here following the sysctl convention):

 * time: how long without data until we decide to try to send
   keepalive packets

 * intvl: how often we send them once they're being sent

 * probes: how many unacknowledged keepalives should trigger failure

(plus, implicitly perhaps, whether we should bother with keepalive at
all, which i'll treat as the time == 0 case).

I'm concerned that the interface for redir is clumsy enough already,
though. i don't want to introduce 6 additional potential arguments (3
for incoming, 3 for outgoing) to a program that's already on the edge
of unwieldy.

Have you considered using socat for your purposes? I note that socat
contains options for all of these features. socat itself can be
unwieldy, but it is far more thorough and flexible than redir in terms
of what options it supports.

You may also be interested in libkeepalive:

  http://libkeepalive.sourceforge.net/

which would let you add this functionality to any program (albeit in a
cruder way: every socket would be set with the same keepalive
settings). libkeepalive isn't in debian yet, but you could file an
RFP for it (please cc me if you do this).

Given these other options, if you still feel that this functionality
belongs in redir, please followup here and we'll sort it out.

Regards,

No, I don't think it is the same issue here, as it happens with one IMAP
account.

> Is there any reason why the target folder
> shouldn't be writeable?
Not to my knowledge, as this behaviour only happens from time to time. I
have not yet been able to determin a precise action that allows me to
reproduce the bug every time I move message(s) from one folder to the
other. I thought at the beginning that it only happens when the target
folder was just created within evolution, but I couldn't confirm.

Yes, I will try this.

Bug#411012: Here, here!

2007-05-11 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
I can confirm this. I am running Debian unstable and I did what James
did (downloaded the compiz-gtk .deb from experimental, unpacked it into
a directory and reconstructed the DEBIAN subdirectory, removed the
"Conflicts" line from the control file, remade it with dpkg-deb, and
installed with dpkg) and it is working fine.

(You'll have to take my word for it that those things are also all
actually running :) .)

Another thing. This should be fixed and compiz 0.3.6 moved from
experimental to unstable sometime in the not-too-distant future, because
currently the (legitimate, I assume) conflict between compiz 0.2.2 and
libmetacity0 >= 2.15.21 prevents anyone from having both compiz and
metacity up-to-date in unstable.

Bug#405865: googleearth-package: googleearth crashes with libarys from experimental

2007-05-11 Thread Wesley J. Landaker
Hi Chirstoph,

You reported this bug a while back. It's really a bug with Google Earth
itself, but I've left it open until we find a workaround or see that it's
closed out upstream.

A new minor version (not just patchlevel) of Google Earth is out, 4.1, which
is now supported by googleearth-package 0.1.0. You might try rebuilding
with the new Google Earth and the new googleearth-package, and see if this
problem still exists.

Bug#368547: expire-logs-days=0 hack can be reverted?

This issue was fixed in upstream 5.0.32, which is the standard in etch.
As a result, I'm thinking the disabled on expire-logs-days=0 hack in
my.cnf might reasonably be removed now and this bug closed. Just a
suggestion.

Bug#423473: libqdox-java: Descriptions need improvement

2007-05-11 Thread Josh Triplett
Package: libqdox-java
Severity: normal

The current description of libqdox-java:

Description: High speed source parser for extracting from Java class/method
definitions
The parser skims the source files only looking for things of interest such as
class/interface definitions, import statements, JavaDoc and member
declarations. The parser ignores things such as actual method implementations
to avoid overhead (while in method blocks, curly brace counting suffices).
 .
The end result of the parser is a very simple document model containing enough
 information to be useful.

The short description has too many characters, and the long description does
not stand on its own separately from the short description. Suggested
replacement:

Description: Quickly parses declarations and Javadoc from Java source
qdox quickly parses Java source files looking for key items of interest:
  * class and interface definitions
  * member declarations
  * import statements
  * JavaDoc comments
 .
qdox ignores all other components of Java source, such as actual method
implementations, to avoid overhead. qdox returns a simple document model
containing only the declarations and containing enough information to be
 useful.

The current description of libqdox-java-doc:

Description: Documentation for the qdox package
 Javadoc only.

This does not describe qdox at all, and the long description does not stand on
its own separately from the short description. It should say something like:

Description: Documentation for qdox (javadoc)

This package contains the documentation for qdox, generated from Javadoc.
 .

OK. I got your key and verified that it is signed by a current Debian
Developer.

A few things about your package:

 - First, there has a been a new upstream release as of 5/2/2007, you
should update. (Please also see the note below about your changelog.)
 - The md5sums of the contents of the .orig.tar.gz don't match the
md5sums of the contents of the .xpi. (I understand that you had to tar
up the .xpi, which is why I did not just check the sums of the .xpi
and the .orig.tar.gz. However, the chrome/noscript.jar and
install.rdf files differ. The difference in the install.rdf is a
single character in a version string. The noscript.jar files
differ, but all of their contents are the same. This is just
something of which you need to be aware since you must always
   repackage your upstream release.)
 - Your changelog needs fixing. You have many entries, when in fact
this would be the first one to make it to the archive. Unless you
have widely released the package already, you should just have a
single changelog entry "Initial release. (Closes: #411403)".
 - I think you are going the long way about repackaging the upstream
release. The uupdate command supports zip files. I think that if
you simply download the .xpi, rename it to .zip and use uupdate, it
will figure everything out for you. I would play around with that
some, as it might save you time in the future.
 - In your debian/copyright file, the URL which it mentions from where
you obtained the software gives a 404. The new URL appears to be
   https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/722/
 - I really like how you got rid of all the crap sites from the
pre-packaged whitelist. However, this might confuse users who come
from using this somewhere else. It is best if you add a
README.Debian file and make note of which domains which are normally
   whitelisted that you have removed.
 - Your debian/rules file is very clean. (It looks much nicer than my
   first few packages :).
 - I like that you use dpatch and don't change the package files
themselves. Personally, I think the .diff.gz should never touch
anything outside of the debian/ directory.
 - Your watch file works. However, be aware that the site to which you
direct it does not have any release listed for more than two months.
If you can find a better one, that would be good. I think that since
the watch file supports parsing html links, you could point it at the
noscript.net download page. There is a "direct download" link on
   that page.
 - The package is lintian clean and linda clean. That is excellent. It
also passes piuparts. If you do not already do so, make sure that
you run these three tools on all your packages.

If you fix up these issues, I would be happy to sponsor this package for
you.

Regards,

-Roberto

Hi Christoph

Thanks, and sorry for the email miss. I'll get this fixed.

Bug#375215: udev startup error messages

2007-05-11 Thread David Marshall
Hi,

I'm sure that ithers have discussed this, so I apologise in advance for
going over old ground.

Is it possible to update the udev package or create a new package to
make sure all the groups required by udev are in /etc/group?

Thanks

Bug#423470: vdr-plugin-epgsearch: Description needs improvement

2007-05-11 Thread Josh Triplett
Package: vdr-plugin-epgsearch
Severity: normal

The current description:

Description: VDR plugin that provides extensive EPG searching capabilities
This plugin allows to search the EPG by defining search terms that
can permanently be stored in a list for later reuse. It supports regular
expressions and is capable of doing fuzzy searches. EPG-Search scans the
EPG in background and can automatically create timers for matching
search terms. Besides this it supports searching for repetitions,
detection of timer conflicts, sending Emails on timer events and
much more. Search terms can also be added and modified with VDRAdmin-AM.

This never explains the acronym EPG, does not point to any information about
about VDR (such as expanding the acronym and pointing at the main VDR
package), doesn't explain VDRAdmin-AM, and needs some grammatical and typo
fixes ("allows to search" should say "allows searching" or perhaps "supports
searches of", "Email" should not have a capital E).

Well, aptitude used to do this all the time, but now it only does
this if it can't find a package name or if you pass "-v" to turn on
verbose mode. See bug #258913.

Bug#423469: initramfs-tools: Type in ps3 pre-mount script

2007-05-11 Thread Paul TBBle Hampson
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.87b
Severity: normal

The file /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-premount/ps3
has the following line:
if [ "${line}" =! "${line#machine*PS3PF}" ]; then
That should be
if [ "${line}" != "${line#machine*PS3PF}" ]; then

It's a cosmetic issue on anything but a PS3, and on a PS3 it
won't modprobe the relevant modules.

Bug#423468: kid3: Add more columns to MusicBrainz results dialog

2007-05-11 Thread Felipe Massia Pereira
Package: kid3
Version: 0.7-3
Severity: wishlist

Please!

Sometimes you have good filenames, but you don't have track numbers (either
ID or in the filename). Then they are organized alphabetically:

01 aaa song
02 bbb song
03 ccc song
   etc.

If you get several results from the same album for "aaa song", you can't see
the song's name. It looks like that:

05 ...
06 | No result...
   | 11 aaa song / art / album [year]
   | 04 ccc song / art / album [year]
   +--

The only reference the user has is the number 01, which can be related to
the 01 above, but it's in another window. How does he know if it's 11 or 04?
The user can, indeed, slide windows and align them side by side to do the
match.

Other approach is to read all options. It there is only one option from that
album, then it's done. But if you get more than one option from the same
album, you have to see the song's name.

Adding the Title column to the dialog will solve it better. If it gets too
wide, it could be resizeable or optional (right click on the table header or
two checkboxes).

This problem occurs only for song titles because when you have track numbers
you can sort the list sequentially and then the row number is equivalent to
track numbers (unless there are tracks missing...).

Bug#423154: link to wiki.debian.org from the Press coverage page

It would probably be useful for someone to just indicate on the wiki
that every time they added something, they should submit the item to
-www; if someone is particularly active in dealing with the wiki page,
they probably should also be working on the press page too.

Perhaps just a link near the top pointing at the wiki page indicating
that the most recent press coverage may only be available on the wiki,
and the vetted press coverage still in the original page would be
best.

Bug#423467: gv: saved setup options ignored

Package: gv
Version: 1:3.6.2-3
Severity: normal

In the "State" > "Setup Options..." menu,
I set "Reverse Scrolling" and hit "Apply", "Save", and "Dismiss".
In that session, reverse scrolling works. When I quit gv and start it
again, reverse scrolling doesn't work.

Before doing this experiment, I had deleted ~/.gv .
I'm attaching the newly-created .gv . Apparently, reverse
scrolling is set there:

   GV.reverseScrolling:True

In my ~/.Xdefaults, I only have these lines

  gv*Foreground: #B1BDC8
  gv*Background: #1A2F40

regarding gv.

Thank you for your help,

I'm observing similar issues here. I'll shortly update the pachage to a
newer version (0.8.5). Let's see if it got fixed in the meantime.

Bug#423466: valgrind: Spurious warning on VT_GETSTATE

2007-05-11 Thread Samuel Thibault
Package: valgrind
Version: 1:3.2.3-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch:

Hi,

valgrind outputs a spurious warning on

ioctl(fd,VT_GETSTATE,&vt_stat);

==19992== Syscall param ioctl(VT_GETSTATE) points to uninitialised byte(s)
==19992==at 0x500AAB7: ioctl (in /lib/libc-2.5.so)

The vt_stat structure is not read by the kernel, and hence doesn't need
to be initialized. The attached patch fixes that.

2007-05-11 Thread Eduardo Silva
Package: gcompris

After installing the package libsdl-mixer1.2, it runs, therefore
libsdl-mixer1.2 should be marked as a

Is there any reason why the patch provided by Gerard W. Patterson 3

For this to be a real bug, this means blosxom must be conflating the GET
and POST options with global variables in the script. This almost
certainly means it is open to several other attack vectors in the same
way that php scripts are when register globals is turned on. Please say
it ain't so, and please, someone who likes the package, it sounds like
it might be time for an audit.

Bug#416512: removed disk && md-device

2007-05-11 Thread David Greaves
[Another repost - DNS/ISP/MX problems didn't seem to make it to any of the lists
or debian bugtrack, sorry cc's]
Sorry, rushed email - it wasn't clear. I think there is something important here
though.

Oh, it may be worth distinguishing between a drive identifier (/dev/sdb) and a
drive slot (md0, slot2).

Hmm, the the kernel advised hotplug to remove the device from /dev, but
 you
don't want to remove it from md? Do you have an example for that case?

Sorry; so it was, as you said, "the only one".
Once you unplugged drive B, drive A was the only drive in the array. From the OS
perspective.

> that relevant?
Not immediately - which is why I don't think it's an error or an I/O and hence
doesn't deserve an I/O event count increment.
(which is what I meant by "Who updated the event count though?")

So md should distinguish between "removed" and "removed and out of sync".
(aside : what does 'failed' mean anyway? What does it give you that you don't
know better from event count?)

Yes, but I think that's only the same as saying they all have the same UUID -
'human you' doesn't (directly) care/know about the event count match status -
you just want a working array.

Ah, now here I think it's relevant to tell the other drive(s) that the unplugged
drive is not only removed - it's failed.
There's a minor error handling optimisation - md could know that a drive was
removed so not even bother writing to it, just mark it failed in the remaining
drives.

I think so: a remove event shouldn't update the event count to other drives. A
failed write should (of course).

Well, not 'of course'.
If I do I/O to slot1 and slot2 then the event count goes up.
If slot3 is missing, fails etc etc then why do we tell slots 1+2?
Surely md would just do an event count comparison on assembly?

Yes, so, assuming my proposal, in the case where you hot remove sdb (not fail)
then hot add sdp (same drive slot different drive identifier, maybe different
usb controller) the on-disk superblock can reliably ensure that the array just
continues (also assuming quiescence)?

I realized now that, oddly enough, Nagios documentation is not clear on
this. http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/2_0/xodtemplate.html#host says:

host_name: This directive is used to define a short name used to
identify the host. It is used in host group and service
definitions to reference this particular host. Hosts can
have multiple services (which are monitored) associated with
them. When used properly, the $HOSTNAME$ macro will contain
this short name.

alias: This directive is used to define a longer name or description used
to identify the host. It is provided in order to allow you to more
easily identify a particular host. When used properly, the
$HOSTALIAS$ macro will contain this alias/description.

address:This directive is used to define the address of the host.
Normally, this is an IP address, although it could really be
anything you want (so long as it can be used to check the
status of the host). You can use a FQDN to identify the host
instead of an IP address, but if DNS services are not
availble this could cause problems. When used properly, the
$HOSTADDRESS$ macro will contain this address. Note: If you
do not specify an address directive in a host definition,
the name of the host will be used as its address. A word of
caution about doing this, however - if DNS fails, most of
your service checks will fail because the plugins will be
unable to resolve the host name.

Which is to say - there is no really exact way for a plugin check to know
which variable is right for the Host: header, because we don't know whether
people put random garbage in their host_name/alias variables. For all we
know, they may be using domain names, rather than IP addresses, even though
it's not recommended. The problem is in those variable names, really - their
names mean something, but their value doesn't have to.

Nevertheless, I think you should try changing the default to use either
$HOSTNAME$ or $HOSTALIAS$, and see if there's fallout.

If necessary, the fallback procedure would be to add a separate set of
checkcommands which use the above variables in a more layered manner.

Bug#423460: script/server defaults to Mongrel, not yet packaged for Debian

2007-05-11 Thread Gunnar Wolf
Package: rails
Version: 1.2.3-2
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

As of the latest Rails, the webserver for testing the development
environment has changed its defaults from Webrick to Mongrel:

$  ./script/server
=> Booting Mongrel (use 'script/server webrick' to force WEBrick)
=> Rails application starting on http://0.0.0.0:3000
=> Call with -d to detach
=> Ctrl-C to shutdown server

   from ./script/server:3:in `require'

   from ./script/server:3

Of course, running 'script/server webrick' as advised cures the
problem - but, with Mongrel not yet available, the default should be
changed!

BTW, I have filed an ITP for Mongrel some time ago, but not given
enough followup. Filipe Lautert, from the pkg-ruby-extras group, has
been working on it. I will ping him to check on the status and
hopefully upload soon. Of course, when Mongrel is uploaded, I think
Rails should add a recommends: relation on it.

Greetings,

Bug#423459: debian-cd: No longer supports adding packages from a "local" repository

2007-05-11 Thread Frans Pop
Package: debian-cd
Version: 3.0.2
Severity: important

While in Bhutan, I did some work adding packages from a local repository
to CDs. This worked fine then (before the debian-cd restructuring) by
setting LOCAL=1 and having LOCALDEBS point to some directory outside the
mirror.

The current debian-cd possibly still supports "local" if it is _part_ of
the mirror structure, but not if LOCALDEBS is set outside the mirror
structure. IMO this is an important regression, especially for CDDs.

A build where I tried that resulted in:
Using ISOLINUX boot-disks image on CD1
  Starting the md5sum.txt file
  Placing packages into image 1
Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at
/home/fjp/projects/debian-cd/tools/add_packages line 53, chunk 1.
unable to stat file
/srv/debmirror-sarge/debian/binary-i386/base-config/base-config_2.53.10.3_all.deb:

No such file or directory
make: *** [image-trees] Error 2

This clearly shows that it looks under the mirror directory, while that
version of base-config was actually in:
/srv/debmirror-sarge/debian-local/dists/sarge/local/binary-i386/base-config/

The main problem seems to be in make_disc_trees, which does not know about
LOCALDEBS at all, although I suspect there are problems elsewhere as
well.

Bug#423461: http.cfg/check_http flawed arguments (-H/-I confusion)

2007-05-11 Thread Josip Rodin
Package: nagios-plugins-basic

Hi,

The config file change provided in #292124 had a bug: it gave the IP address
($HOSTADDRESS$) to the check_https command in both the -I and -H parameters.

Since the meaning of the -H parameter is to modify the Host: HTTP header,
putting an IP address in it is fairly clearly nonsensical. Instead,
the *name* should be put inside; the name of the virtual host.

The argument passed to -H should be $HOSTNAME$ instead.

Note that -I should be kept, so as to avoid having HTTP* checks depending
on DNS.

I noticed this for check_https, but the same actually applies to
check_http as well. You may also want to change check_squid to use
-H $HOSTNAME$ -I $HOSTADDRESS$.

Please fix this. TIA.

Bug#416512: removed disk && md-device

2007-05-11 Thread David Greaves
[Repost - didn't seem to make it to the lists, sorry cc's]
Sorry, rushed email - it wasn't clear. I think there is something important here
though.

Oh, it may be worth distinguishing between a drive identifier (/dev/sdb) and a
drive slot (md0, slot2).

Sorry; so it was, as you said, "the only one".
Once you unplugged drive B, drive A was the only drive in the array. From the OS
perspective.

This bug is a result of two factors:

1) A bug in libsbuild handling of the controlling TTY. Basically,
outputting a debugging message in a static initialiser before
std::cerr was initialised resulted in a segfault.

2) The 10mount shell script doesn't error out if schroot-listmounts
   fails.

Both of these issues should be fixed shortly.

Sorry for a delay in replying--my mail system is delivering mail

What exactly do you mean by this? Create serial getties even when the
install is not done over serial console?

Which serial port would you want to use for that? What happens if there is
not another computer connected to that serial port but some other device?

If an install is done over serial console, we already do keep the serial
getty, so I really don't understand what you are getting at here.

Bug#307257: About winbind 3 and squid with ntlm authentication (Debian Bug #307257)

2007-05-11 Thread Luigi Gangitano

Hi all,
I was hit by this bug myself last week, while installing an NTLM
authenticated squid.

Il giorno 10/mag/07, alle ore 02:30, Jim Barber ha scritto:
This should probably be raised as a bug (wishlist?) with the squid
maintainers to have this setting changed in the example file (and
default config file if it's set) as it breaks the use of the
winbindd_priv group.
Do one of you winbind maintainers want to do that, or do you want
me to do it? :)

squid_effective_group was set to allow default permissions on cache
and log files to user/group proxy. If squid_effective_group is
changed as something else, startup script fixes permissions on the fly.

While the fix is easy and administrators can apply by themselves, I'm
now planning to disable the default setting and add user proxy
(default squid user in Debian package) to winbindd_priv group at
install time. This should fix this issue in the default installation.

Regards,

L

Package: dpkg-dev

hi!

I have the following Architecture line in my control file:
Architecture: i386 ia64 powerpc sparc hppa amd64

When I try to bulid my package, i get some weird warnings from
dpkg-architecture when invoked thru dh_gencontrol, dpkg-genchanges and
others.

Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at
/usr/lib/dpkg/controllib.pl line 279.
Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at
/usr/lib/dpkg/controllib.pl line 287.

I get around more than 50 of these during the package build.

if I change the Architecture line to Architecture: i386, these warnings
go away.

They wasn't present with version .13

The build seems to finish nicely - but these warnings doesn't look nice

/Sune

So, from the transcript you sent, it *is* building a valid package, but it's
named "googleearth_+0.0.8-1_i386.deb", which I agree is probably not what
you were expecting. Is this correct?

This comes up because when it doesn't recognize the version and you
use --force, it uses a blank version, which is then augmented with the
googleearth-package version (hence "+0.0.8-1" instead of
the "4.1.7076.4458+0.0.8-1" you were expecting).

Anyway, I can fix this in the next version if this is all that's going on.
If these is some other problem, like the package built is actually bad,
that might be a separate issue, which you should file separately.

Bug#423450: audacious-plugins_1.3.3-2: FTBFS: versioned b-d on libcurl3-gnutls-dev

2007-05-11 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: audacious-plugins
Version: 1.3.3-2
Severity: serious
Tags: sid

Hi Adam,

The libcurl package has bumped sonames, so all packages depending on
libcurl3 need to be rebuilt for libcurl4. An attempt to do so for
audacious-plugins fails, because audacious-plugins has a versioned
build-dependency on libcurl3-gnutls-dev, which is now a virtual package:

 dpkg-checkbuilddeps: Unmet build dependencies: libcurl3-gnutls-dev (>= 7.9.7)
| libcurl-dev (>= 7.9.7)
 dpkg-buildpackage: Build dependencies/conflicts unsatisfied; aborting.

A full build log can be found at
.

Please update your package's build dependencies to refer to the appropriate
libcurl4 -dev package, so that the curl transition can move forward for
lenny.

Thanks,

It could be a hardware conflict between your network interface and
graphic board. Do they use the same interrupt line according to
/proc/interrupts?
If you had a PC, I would have told you to look in the BIOS for
"plug-n-play OS" or so, but since this is a mac I don't know.

By the way, when did this problem appear? Did you have Xorg+network
working fine before? What did you upgrade in the meantime?

Brice

Hrmpf. Seems indeed the case. This one looks (and probably actually is)
another incrnation of the "check for update" bogusity, but aparently the
extension manager needs it :/

Will be in the next upload.

Bug#383316: Derivative works for songs

Mmmmh, the author says

| The song "Ryu´s theme" is a heavy metal version of the Ryu´s Song in
| the famous videogame Street Fighter 2

I really cannot remember the original Ryu's theme (it's been a looong
time since I last saw Street Fighter 2 in an arcade, and the audio is
usually set pretty low volume in arcades anyway...), hence I'm not
qualified to evaluate by myself.

However, if the author says that it's a metal version of Ryu's theme, I
think he means that the melody is the same, even though the musical
genre is changed.
*If* this is the case, I would call it a "cover" and hence I'm afraid it
qualifies as an adaptation or derivative work of the original
soundtrack, which is copyrighted by CAPCOM (most probably).

I would leave it out.

There's another issue with the remaining four songs, though.
Is their source available?
I mean: what's the preferred form[1] for making modifications to the
songs? Is this form available?

I ask it because I'm convinced[2] that DFSG#2 mandates the distribution
of source, even for works whose license does not mandate it.
Moreover, I see that some of the songs have a comment that claims
"Made with Sony ACID Pro 5.0". Are they made with this proprietary
sequencer[3]?
If this is the case, I'm afraid that those songs Build-Depend on
non-free software...

[1] this is the most widely accepted definition of source code (it's the
one found in the GNU GPL)
[2] however, surprisingly enough, release managers don't seem to agree
with me for non-programmatic works...

Hi Sven,

The libcurl package has bumped sonames, so all packages depending on
libcurl3 need to be rebuilt for libcurl4. An attempt to do so for tclcurl
fails, because tclcurl has a versioned build-dependency on
libcurl3-gnutls-dev, which is now a virtual package:

Hi Anand,

Attempts to rebuild pam-http in unstable for the libcurl3 -> libcurl4

2007-05-11 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: pycurl
Version: 7.15.5-1

Hi Domenico,

You might have heard about the libcurl3 -> libcurl4 transition in unstable.
;) One of your packages, pycurl, is failing to build because it has a
versioned build-dependency on libcurl3-gnutls-dev, which of course is now a
virtual package:

 dpkg-checkbuilddeps: Unmet build dependencies: libcurl3-gnutls-dev (>=
7.15.4-1)
 dpkg-buildpackage: Build dependencies/conflicts unsatisfied; aborting.

A full build log can be found at

Please update your build dependencies to the new package name so that the
curl transition can proceed to testing once glibc is unblocked.

Bug#423184: openoffice.org: Segfaults on startup

2007-05-11 Thread Linas Žvirblis
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello,

I can confirm this. I tested 2.2.0-6, 2.2.0-7, 2.2.1~oof680m15-1,
2.2.0-5, and 2.0.4.dfsg.2-7 (in given order) - none of them work. It is
not a clean install, just a list of what I tested TODAY. At least
2.2.0-5 did work before.

My system is mixed Unstable/Experimental, which I upgrade often. My best
bet was that his was caused by recent upgrades of either libc6 or
libglib2.0-0, but going to earlier versions (libc6 2.5-5, libglib2.0-0
2.12.9-2) has no effect, so it must be something else. Still searching.

My video driver is proprietary fglrx, but it was not updated for quite
some time. Rebuilt it today just to be sure, no difference.

Bug#383316: Final Packages?

2007-05-11 Thread Miriam Ruiz

2007/5/11, Matthew Johnson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

I'll update svn.

Thanks, :)

I'll downoad it and have a look. A friend of mine is probably testing the
packages (I guess his computer would be clean enough for this). I'll try
them in my lappy too.

I'll probably get another musician to make some songs for FoF and put them
in Debian, so whatever infrastructure we choose, should be able to cope with
that :)

Greetings, and thanks :)

Though, packages.d.o bug is certainly the same as mine:
apt-listchanges is only (I mean was ;p) tracking source package
versions, and source package versions don't get incremented on binNMU.

The problem could also be more tricky as I guess DDPO is tracking
uploads, but I don't have this problem.

FWIW, I have the fix in my git tree :)

Hello Steve,

The above BTS reassign action is to bring you in contact with
other people in Debian who work on Nvidia stuff. ( Hi Randall! :-)
Where Christian Perrier suggested to open new bug about the X window
system issue, is he right. My reason for continueing on this bugreport,
is because it has history about your enthousiasm.

Go further with the pursuit. I see that you enjoy it!

Cheers

Bug#423442: Emacs loads to much from site-start.el

2007-05-11 Thread Peder Stray

Package: emacs21-el
Version: 21.4a+1-5

startup.el contains a path to load debian-startup, this is within the test
for site-run-file, an thus should adhere to the documentation of the
site-run-file variable which states:

Don't use the `site-start.el' file for things some users may not
like.

The patch also contains the following line:

;; It's in here because we want -q to kill it too.

But -q / --no-init-file does not affect that block, --no-site-file does.

The files that -q affect are .emacs and default.el, loading of the last
one can be inhibited with:

(setq inhibit-default-init t)

in .emacs.

Thus, either move the loading of debian-startup to default.el, or split
loading of non-default packages on the two files so that users can inhibit
loading of anything that affects how emacs behaves or looks with
inhibit-default-init from their .emacs file.

No it's not, in fact I don't remember having ever seen a binNMU
changelog now that you say it. I'll try to investigate.
