If udev is always a suitable replacement, why doesn't it just Provide
it?

The maintainer, *and* anyone having sent a mail to the bug should be
CCed by default. The current rules force maintainers to search by hand
all interested people in the bug log, which is insane when you have
large numbers of bugs to handle.

Hello,
Since the bts never sends messages to Uploaders but only to Maintainer
there is no problem afaict.

Right, that's how it works currently.

People interested in the bug should subscribe to the bug. As a
maintainer, you shouldn't bother emailing anyone but the bugnumber and
possibly -submitter if you want to make sure that the submitter is
also mailed.

Bug#434177: initscripts: mountnfs script doesn't wait for network to be effectively active

2007-07-22 Thread Julien Valroff
Package: initscripts
Version: 2.86.ds1-38
Severity: normal

Hi,

When booting, the first nfs mount declared in my /etc/fstab is not mounted as
the network connection
isn't yet effectively active.

I use a wireless connection with the madwifi driver with a WPA2 encryption
(wpa_supplicant).

Setting a tempo like 'sleep 3' at the top of the /etc/network/if-up.d/mountnfs
script does "fix"
the issue.

I guess there should be a proper way to determin if a network link is active
before trying and mounting
the NFS shares.

Cheers,
Julien

Any chance that this patch will be merged upstream? It looks like the issue is
still present in 2.6.22.

Package: scim
Version: 1.4.7-1
Severity: normal

Already discussed in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/scim/+bug/66104
And the problem showed up from version 1.4.6. Current transitional
solution is changing the value of "/FrontEnd/X11/Dynamic" in
/etc/scim/config or ~/.scim/config from "false" to "true", which is
known to unfortunately break deadkeys usage in European keyboard layouts.
So this walk around is only recommend when such problem shows up. Seems
further investigation is required.

2007-07-22 Thread Julien Petit
Package: tuxguitar
Version: 0.9.1-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,

I can't launch Tuxguitar. Here's a transcript:

In /usr/bin/tuxguitar, the JAVA variable is set to
/usr/lib/j2sdk1.5-sun/jre/bin/java:

export JAVA=/usr/lib/j2sdk1.5-sun/jre/bin/java

But on Lenny the java binary (for Sun JVM) are locate at:
 -/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.00/jre/bin/ for java 6
 -/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.11/bin/ for java 5

For my own use, I changed the JAVA variable to /usr/bin/java (which is a
link to a link to java 6 VM)

But i'm not sure it will work everywhere, because /usr/bin/java could be
a link to a non-Sun JVM like Kaffe.

Cheers,

Julien

Bug#434184: postgrey: Co-installation of libsys-syslog-perl triggers warning and changes syslog lines

2007-07-22 Thread Andreas Metzler
Package: postgrey
Version: 1.28-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

Installing libsys-syslog-perl (0.18-1) seems to slightly break postgrey:

*Before* installation:
Jul 22 10:54:30 argenau postgrey[5679]: Process Backgrounded
Jul 22 10:54:30 argenau postgrey[5679]: 2007/07/22-10:54:30 postgrey (type

As you can see, addition of libsys-syslog-perl has two side-effects:
#1 It triggers the warning noted in http://bugs.debian.org/425060
#2 The process ID is gone from the syslog entries (postgrey: instead
of postgrey[5679]:), therefore breaking the logcheck patterns.

I have stumbled upon this when running a backport of 1.28-1 on etch
with the dependencies noted at the bottom of the mail. It is also
reproducible on sid, using these package versions:

ii libberkeleydb-perl0.31-1 use Berkeley DB 4 databases from Perl
ii libdigest-sha1-perl 2.11-2 NIST SHA-1 message digest algorithm

Currently it's an Intel-based (in case tis would matter, which I doubt) amd64
system, running self-compiled kernel 2.6.22-rc7 (whose configuration is mostly
the same as for official Debian kernel, I only switched CPU optimization on
and USB suspend off).

> Also, please give us the exact error message that appears when the

Here's an excerpt from syslog:

Jul 19 09:48:11 kingu kernel: dpkg[30696]: segfault at rip

Jul 19 09:48:12 kingu kernel: rm[30697]: segfault at rip

Jul 19 09:48:32 kingu kernel: ls[30701]: segfault at rip
 rsp 709204e8 error 14

And so on, and so on. These segfaults come from dpkg trying to continua with
installing debs, then there are myriads of identical segfaults from the stuff
that's spawned by init, until I do a hard reboot. After this init crashes with
the same message.

Hope that helps. If I can provide any additional info I'll be happy to do it.

Good choice. Compile time default is overridden by TEXEDIT.
I think you had better define also MFEDIT and MPEDIT.

Bug#434124: More patch

2007-07-22 Thread Isaac To

Hi,

Create a patch which does similar things for the image (instead of
just the label), adding a text containing a number 2, 3, etc. in case
when more than one keyboard layout is using the same XkbLayout string.
Disclaimer: I'm completely new to Glib, Gdk and Gtk+, and I've read
just enough from the manual to be able to make up the patch, so I
cannot claim the patch to be rock solid.

Regards,
Isaac

Bug#434027: partman-crypto: loop-aes fails with "not supported by kernel"

2007-07-22 Thread Frans Pop
tags 434027 + pending
thanks

I've hit one snag implementing a fix for this. As losetup is not
available, we cannot "see" what precisely is loop-mounted on a certain
loop device, so we cannot loop over all loop-mounted devices and
unmount/remount them.

I've "solved" this by just assuming that we only use loop-mounting for the
CD image in hd-media installs. If a CD image is mounted, the image will
be unmounted, loop replaced by loop-aes, and finally the image will be
remounted.

I've included some sanity checks, so if something else is using loop,
partman should now fail in a controlled manner and with proper indication
in the syslog why it's failing.

Cheers,
FJP

Hello,

this seems to be a bug in libsys-syslog-perl 0.18 and has already be
reported upstream, and a patch has been provided.

It should probably be reassigned there, marked as forwarded to
http://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=21866 and tagged patch.
- The patch in the bugreport works for me.

Bug#427406: Still doesn't work.

2007-07-22 Thread Claudius Hubig
Hi,

I now tested it with Kernel 2.6.21, but hat the same result as
before: Keyboard and mouse input is blocked, killing Metacity helps.
Then, I removed libc6-i686, but that didn't solve the problem neither.

Additionally, the problem with aptitude doesn't occur here, it works
just fine.

When an example ssl virtualhost is added, the IE workaround should be

That's not been my experience at all. Simply re-instating the section in
its location in httpd.conf solved the problems I was experiencing.

Bug#434190: destar: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update

2007-07-22 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: destar
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

If you do not already use it, you might consider using the
"podebconf-report-po" utility, which helps warning translators about
changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages.

The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators
when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf
templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week
for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA
process which requires time).

podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the
needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the
PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-)

Example use (from your package build tree):

$ podebconf-report-po

This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an
update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a
mail to send to these translators (you can also use the
"--languageteam" switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in
"Language-Team" field).

You can also use this utility to request for new translations:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will send a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with all the
needed information and material for new translators to add new
languages to your supported languages.

If you apply this policy, please forget about these remarks, of
courseThis message is generic..:-)

Nothing you can really do. The Spanish translation is not
complete. This doesn't really harm: the screen containing them will be
shown in English because of this. So, in short, just ignore the
lintian warnings.

Of course, it would even be better if the Spanish translator(s) update
the translation.:)

Bug#434199: resolvconf script lockup

2007-07-22 Thread Jindrich Makovicka
Package: pdnsd
Version: 1.2.5par-2
Severity: important

Hi,

resolvconf script incorrectly expects the output
of /lib/resolvconf/list-records to be non-empty. When an empty list is
returned, the script hangs because cat expects data from stdin.

On my configuration, this bug disallows the machine to shutdown
correctly, and it also needs some Ctrl-C hitting to boot.

Patch attached.

Hi,

Your package is failing to build with the following error:

It seems that for some reason libtool it's using -fPIC and only -DPIC on
the files in the odbcinstQ directory. At first sight, all the previous
directories seem to be fine.

Hi,

please upgrade to the latest version (2:2.1.0-2). If the bug is still
there, send the output of '/usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg-core/script 3>&1'

Bug#434205: otrs2: Unneeded dependency on apache2 and libapache2-mod-perl2

2007-07-22 Thread Michael Bussmann
Package: otrs2
Version: 2.1.7-2
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I wonder if there's any easy way to remove the dependency of otrs2 on
apache2 and libapache2-mod-perl2 in the package. OTRS runs fine on
lighttpd here, but the package forces me to install apache2+mod_perl.

Maybe building a seperate otrs2-apache2 package (depending on apache2 +
libapache2-mod-perl2) would be an option so otrs2 could depend on
(otrs2-apache2 | otrs2-webserver) (the latter could easily be created
with equivs).

Cheers,
Michael

Probably, I'd love the hear one or even a patch! Since I have no
setup in which to confirm the bug, I'll have a hard time creating

fwiw I checked in a patch that adds /dev/null to the list of files

Hum... The scripts supplied in /usr/share/doc/collectd/examples/ are only
meant to be sample scripts how to generate graphs from the RRD files generated
by collectd. They are only meant to be a starting point for your own
experiments (this is mentioned in /usr/share/doc/collectd/README). I could
provide another README file in /usr/share/doc/collectd/examples/ similar to
http://git.tokkee.org/?p=collectd.git;a=blob;f=contrib/README. Do you think
that will help? I don't think that the package should contain information
about how to install a CGI script. This information can be found in other
places.

If at some point in time somebody steps up to provide a more sophisticated
solution it will be installed automatically.

I will add httpd-cgi to the recommended packages.

HTH,
Sebastian

In that case wouldn't it be better to leave the BR open in the hope that

I've adapted your patch to avoid the use of sscanf, see
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1758410&group_id=5095&atid=305095

I don't see how the attached script must be used. Am I missing the looping
script? Do I need a running server? Which commandline options must be used?

The patch contains the 'admin send-message', so your first part of the feature
request is fulfilled.
The request for server-side logging: is the '--debug' option not sufficient?
It contains a full transcipt of all messages that are sent.

Bug#434214: diff: cmp man page references wrong info page

2007-07-22 Thread Helge Kreutzmann
Package: diff
Version: 2.8.1-11
Severity: minor

In the SEE ALSO section of cmp(1) the following is stated:
The full documentation for cmp is maintained as a Texinfo manual. If
the info and cmp programs are properly installed at your site, the com-
   mand

  info diff

should give you access to the complete manual.

However, running "info diff" decribes the "diff" command, not the cmp
comand. It has to be "info cmp" (although only the man page is shown
again, hence this SEE ALSO section could also be removed).

Bug#434045: security-bug informations for horde3 package

2007-07-22 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Hi

What the attacker can do is the following:
* Set up a fake site.
* Trick some user to go to that site.
* Redirect the user to the real site and inject some fake login code or
  similar.

There are proof on security focus that it is possible:

[Base_HREF]/horde/[Horde_App]/login.php?new_lang=%22%3E%3Cbody%20onload=%22alert%28'XSS'%29%3B

I could not really understand how that is possible as the only place
where the code do not look like this:

isset($GLOBALS['nls']['rtl'][$GLOBALS['language']]

is in the mobild device handling code... However I have tested myself and
yes it is possible to do this kind of XSS things, so it must be some other
variable that is set somewhere.

In any case I'm uploading the sid version now.

Regards,

// Ola

Have a look how the database is handled in libnss-db (internal_setent in
src/db-open.c). It's simply opened without database environment.

Compare this to nss_cache_init for the DB_VERSION_MAJOR >=4 case in
cache.c of nss-updatedb: it first opens the db_environment, creates a db
handle and starts the transaction (txn_begin). So (what I think) we
should do is to protect the db->get calls in lookup() of libnss-db by
transactions and create a proper database environment in
internal_setent(). This would (at least I think so) make sure libnss-db
sees the "old database content" until the commit of the new content is
finished.

Docs are at:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/index.html

Especially the "Getting started with transaction processing":

http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/gsg_txn/C/index.html

I can cook up a patch during the week if you like, I'd be great having
something to test this on though, maybe a chroot or machine that can
access alioth's database? Maybe the libnss-db maintainer can should
comment on this?
Cheers,

Thanks for your report and your explanations. I'm more than willing

At the time I wrote this line it wasn't on my machine but anyway.

It seems rather permanent on my machines but anyway.

>
> So please remove the if [ -e /dev/net/tun ] and WRITE_ON_UDEV=false,

Alright, I did some tests now (with udev 0.105-4):

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# cd /dev/
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/dev# find -name tun
  ./net/tun
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/dev# rm net/tun
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/dev# ./MAKEDEV tun
udev active, devices will be created in /dev/.static/dev/
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/dev# find -name tun
  ./.static/dev/net/tun
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/dev#

At that point I have /dev/.static/dev/tun but no /dev/net/tun.
iodine uses /dev/net/tun so it would not work at that stage.

* reboot *

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/dev# find -name tun
  ./net/tun
  ./.static/dev/net/tun
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/dev#

Looks good.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/dev# find -name tun -delete
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/dev# find -name tun
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/dev#

* reboot *

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/dev# find -name tun
  ./net/tun
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/dev#

Conclusion: /dev/net/tun is there after a reboot both if I MAKEDEV it
before and if I don't. That's great.

I'm still hestitating to change the postinst because of the first test
above -- if there's no /dev/net/tun and the package is installed and
runs MAKEDEV tun then there's no /dev/net/tun and iodine won't work
until the next reboot.

Maybe I'm still misunderstanding the issue or not seeing the obvious;
in any case I'd be grateful for some further help.

Cheers,
gregor

Bug#433117: Rapid scrolling between desktop panels while running Totem crashes gdm with "gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error"

Brice,

  It's solid now.

I started an mpeg video w/ audio in Totem and then jumped back and
forth between portions of my 2x2 desktop for about 2 minutes like a

Previously to switch away from the part of the desktop with Totem
playing and then jump back a fraction of a second later was enough to
be blown back to the desktop login screen.

I'll try one or two more tests tonight or tomorrow night, but the
crashing is either fixed or much harder to trigger.

I'll try one of my test cases after I update and reboot. Since
yesterday morning there are another 20 updates for my system,
including xserver-xorg-input-kdb, gdm and nfs-common. Some of the
libraries affect a significant number of services, so manually
restarting each with be tedious at best.

Bug#430118: Some of your Debian packages might need attention (libxml-sax-perl #430118)

2007-07-22 Thread Niko Tyni
(let's move this from pkg-perl-maintainers to the relevant
 bugreport, #430118)

Yes, I think this is the minimal required change. It would emulate
the upstream behaviour for the most important part: all other parsers
override XML::SAX::PurePerl.

There's another problem about the current update-perl-sax-parsers system:
it's misusing /etc, since local changes are not preserved on upgrades.
Of course, there isn't much to really configure, but if somebody wants
to eg. remove XML::SAX::PurePerl from /etc/perl/XML/SAX/ParserDetails.d
(or truncate it to get the same effect), it's going to come back on
each upgrade.

I think it would be better to store the parser details under /var, say
/var/lib/libxml-sax-perl/ParserDetails.d, since their content is not
really configuration data anyway.

The resulting configuration file, /etc/perl/XML/SAX/ParserDetails.ini,
should be handled so that local configuration changes are preserved.
This could be done with eg. ucf.

FWIW, I would also prefer a priority-based system where the priorities
could be configured by the local administrator (but would have reasonable
defaults, of course.) This would make the behaviour more deterministic,
as packages could specify sensible priorities instead of being stuck
with the filesystem ordering of their names.

I don't think the format of the files need to be changed for this; the
priority could be encoded to the filename, preferably via symlinks as
usual with the *.d stuff.

This would need one more level of indirection; the current
/etc/perl/XML/SAX/ParserDetails.d directory could be reused for the
symlinks into /var/lib/libxml-sax-perl/ParserDetails.d. The links could
be named eg. "NN-", with NN specifying the priority and
the name of the parser.

Obviously, a symlink should only be created if there isn't a file
referring to the same parser already (to cater for local priority or
content changes). Preserving symlink removal by the administrator is a
bit harder, and would probably need an interface change so that other
packages would invoke update-perl-sax-parsers with different arguments
on upgrade and the initial install.

I can write a more detailed proposal if this sounds desirable; please
let me know what you think about this.

Cheers,

Hmm; what's /etc/defoma/config on your system exactly?

It's supposed to be a directory, and multiple packages shipping the
 same directory is certainly permitted.

 On my system:
gs-common: /etc/defoma/config
libpango1.0-common: /etc/defoma/config
libpango1.0-common: /etc/defoma/config/pango.conf
x-ttcidfont-conf: /etc/defoma/config
x-ttcidfont-conf: /etc/defoma/config/x-ttcidfont-conf.conf2

Bug#434221: procps: Doesn't document majflt, minflt format specifiers in manpage.

2007-07-22 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: procps
Version: 1:3.2.7-3

Hi,

I was looking for a way to list the page faults a process has got, and
the only thing I found was the "OBSOLETE SORT KEYS" which has:
m min_flt number of minor page faults
M maj_flt number of major page faults
n cmin_flt cumulative minor page faults
N cmaj_flt cumulative major page faults

Under the "STANDARD FORMAT SPECIFIERS" nothing is mentioned about the
page faults, but atleast those seem to work:
min_flt, maj_flt, minflt, majflt

Bug#434225: ntfs-3g: FTBFS: cannot find -lselinux

2007-07-22 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: ntfs-3g
Version: 1:1.710-1

Hi,

Your package is failing to build with the following error:
x86_64-linux-gnu-gcc -Wall -g -O2 -Wall -Wl,-z -Wl,defs -o .libs/ntfs-3g
ntfs_3g-ntfs-3g.o ntfs_3g-utils.o -pthread ../libntfs-3g/.libs/libntfs-3g.so

/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lselinux
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[3]: *** [ntfs-3g] Error 1

You probably also don't want to set that rpath, which might be caused by
an old version of libtool.

Bug#434224: evince: rotate should be in 'view' menu

2007-07-22 Thread Ramakrishnan Muthukrishnan
Package: evince
Version: 0.8.3-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

This is mainly for the upstream, not a debian-specific wishlist. I
guess debian-bugs will eventually reach the upstream, so filing it
here.

The "rotate" is currently on "edit" menu item. It is natural to
expect this in the "view" menu.

Regards
Ramakrishnan

Bug#434227: kdm: autologin: auto-lock fails when switching terminals

2007-07-22 Thread Rogier
Package: kdm
Version: 4:3.5.7-1
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

When using KDM with AutoLoginEnable=true and AutoLoginLocked=true,
and using a KDE session, the session lock can be avoided by switching
virtual consoles before the autologin starts (e.g. while the X
server is still starting up, or during the AutoLoginDelay).

Rogier.
