Yes, someone should revert the mutex change.

Bug#441071: Package libGLU1-mesa breaks compi-fusion's expo plugin

2007-09-06 Thread Massimo Gagliasso
Sorry. I was wrong!!
I've just retested : with version 7.0.1-1 it works. I didn't restarted my
gnome session.
Of course I get other strange behaveoiurs due to different libGLU1-mesa
version.

To compile the test program I attached you have to install freeglut3-dev and
link with -lglut .

The OpenLDAP people were making some claims about performance wrt mutex
types, and I had recalled that only the on-disk locking was different.
Obviously I was misinformed.

It would help if you actually elaborated on the reasons because
although the version of anjuta in sid has bugs, so does the version in
Lenny.

The new version is much improved over the first attempt to upgrade
anjuta when the version in unstable had to be reverted by using the
epoch specified in your report.

Are you prepared to take on maintenance of anjuta1 in Debian
personally? i.e. a fork? You need to make a much more persuasive
argument if you expect the current maintainer to take on the
maintenance of TWO versions of anjuta in Debian. Keeping anjuta1 in
testing means that the maintainer has to fix bugs in both versions.

If you really, really want anjuta1 to remain, your only real option is
to create an ITP and package it yourself as a fork that can be
installed alongside anjuta2 and maintain it yourself in the absence of
any upstream support. I have no idea what would be involved in that
task - it could easily involve maintaining old versions of associated
libraries as well as the anjuta program itself.

What was the reason for that, anyway?

You can't change mutexes without changing the environment layout (data
structure sizes change), and to make matters worse, this is not
checked by the library.

Neither works for me, but there seems to be a different problem.
In both cases the last line printed is

  input: AT Translated Set 2 keyboard as /class/input/input0

that is, the freeze happens much earlier (before initializing SCSI or
IDE), and in this case I can reboot using ctrl-alt-del.

I forgot to point out that I use the amd64 arch, not i386. Maybe this
mismatch is the problem this time? (I used --force-architecture to be
able to install the above packages, and I guess that's a bad idea in
general.)

Bug#441157: autofs & nis - wrong startup order

2007-09-06 Thread Martin Hans
Package: autofs
Version: 4.1.4-13
Severity: normal

Hi,

If using the autofs and nis package together, the rc2.d startup order is wrong.
S19nis is started after S19autofs, hence the automount of home directories
specified by nis will not work after boot.

A simple rename of S19autofs (i. e. S20autofs) fixes the issue.

Best Regards

So now you know how the magic is done.

I've tagged this bug "upstream". I also found the docs I should have
read before (tty_ioctl(4), in case you were wondering). I'll see what I
can do about this bug.

Bug#441152: libdb4.4: 4.4.20-8 -> 4.4.20-9 breaks txn_begin

2007-09-06 Thread Adrian von Bidder
Package: libdb4.4
Version: 4.4.20-9
Severity: grave
Justification: totally breaks postgrey

(don't hesitate to shoot back if it turns out that postgrey or
libberkeleydb-perl is using libdb4.4 the wrong way :-)

See #441069: txn_begin seems to fail with 4.4.20-9. Downgrading to 4.4.20-8
makes the problem go away (doesn't matter which version the database was
created with.)

cheers

P.S.: I didn't reassign the bug because I want to keep it open against
postgrey as documentation for "my" users.

Bug#441069: postgrey: breaks after cleaining main database

2007-09-06 Thread Adrian von Bidder

Hmm. I'm using 4.4.20-8 from lenny. I just tried 4.4.20-9 and had exactly
this problem. I'll open a bug against libdb4.4, then. (Not reassigning
the bug because I'm sure another person will just file a duplucate if I
don't leave this open against postgrey.)

At least it doesn't break the database: downgrading to the version from
lenny again, and postgrey just continues to work.

Bug#441151: CGI options not working

2007-09-06 Thread martin f krafft
Package: bugs.debian.org
Severity: important

The form at the bottom pkgreport.cgi yields and error, it seems that
it does not seed the pkg= field and thus produces URLs like

  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?archive=0;repeatmerged=0

which causes this message:

  An error occurred. Dammit. Error was: You have to choose something

It would be splendid if this could be fixed soon. I'd prepare

Bug#441108: coreutils: watch file

Yes, I'd like for that watch file to be added to the Debian packaging.
This would benefit QA tools and persons wishing to generate reports
about upstream versions or to NMU or hijack coreutils in order to
update it to version 6.9, for example.

DEHS [1] is already functioning without the watch file, but
adding it to the package would make it more explicit and consistent.

Bug#441150: FTBFS: missing build-dependency on autoconf

I'm not going to apply this patch, because it could be the clock is
totally bogus, and in that case, you *do* want to do an fsck, because
it could have been a very, very long time since a check had been done.

My plan for fixing this given all of the whinging and "it's impossible
to fix this" is that distros who believe this can set in /etc/e2fsck.conf:

[options]
buggy_init_scripts = 1

 and this will cause e2fsck to allow the CMOS clock to be up to 24
hours into the future, to accomodate people who insist on setting
their CMOS clock to localtime, and yet can't manage to get their init
scripts to do the right thing at e2fsck time.

Bug#441143: linux-image-2.6.21-2-vserver-sparc64: Vserver unaligned access regression

2007-09-06 Thread Nathaniel Filardo
Package: linux-image-2.6.21-2-vserver-sparc64
Version: 2.6.21-5
Severity: normal

Booting 2.6.21-2-vserver-sparc64 will not start vservers with dlimits in
place, complaining "vdu: readdir(): Bad address" (meaning a return of
EFAULT). Further, vserver-stat produces its header but no servers,
despite that servers without dlimits were successfully started by the
init scripts.

Some stracing makes it look like the root cause is a getdents64() call
with its data pointer only aligned mod 4, not mod 8. However, booting
2.6.18-4-vserver-sparc64 works but gives a host of dmesg output like

Kernel unaligned access at TPC[4b72d0] filldir64+0x54/0x134
Kernel unaligned access at TPC[4b72ec] filldir64+0x70/0x134
Kernel unaligned access at TPC[4b72b8] filldir64+0x3c/0x134

when starting vservers. Despite these warnings it _works_, which is
key. This bug may be inappropriately filed -- I have no idea if the
important package is the kernel, glibc, or util-vserver, though from a
bit of code groveling I'd bet against the latter.

Requesting the attention of some guru. Thanks much.

Just for the archive, forwarding from asciidoc author Stuart
Rackham, not solution but workaround:

> In brief, I hope that new asciidoc will keep urls as is, instead of

To revert to version 7 behavior put the v7 compatibility
attribute on the command-line:

   -a asciidoc7compatible

> Also IMHO, the most common use of superscripts and subscripts are in
> math and chemical equations. In such case, the superscripts and
> subscripts are rather short. . .

To drop the super/subscripts definitions put the following lines in a
custom .conf file or change in your global asciidoc.conf file:

 [quotes]
 ^=
 ~=

Another trick, you can selectively choose which substitutions to
perform by setting the subs attribute at the start of a block, for
example:

[subs="specialcharacters,macros"]
~subscripts~ and ^super scripts^ quotes won't be substituted.
Nor will http://host/~user/file#_anchor_tag_str_[]

Bug#441142: xpdf font rendering bug

A recompile of xpdf's latest source (3.02 with 3.02pl1 patch) built
against freetype (2.3.5) and t1lib (5.1.0) (obtained from the xpdf and

The problem is that debian/config ignores /etc/default/mailgraph.
Unfortunately fixing debian/config is not enough because the old
debian/postrm uncoditionally removes /etc/default/mailgraph before
the new debian/config is called ...

The attached patch tries to cope with this situation by
1) removing /etc/default/mailgraph only on package purge
2) once saving the values from /etc/default/mailgraph in a new
   debian/preinst

Bug#441139: libfltk1.1-dev: Does not depend on libxft-dev nor libxinerama-dev

2007-09-06 Thread Felipe Sateler
Package: libfltk1.1-dev
Version: 1.1.7-4
Severity: important

They are only suggested. This means I need to explicitly depend on them
although I don't explicitly use them:

% fltk-config --compile cseditor.cxx
g++ -I/usr/include/freetype2 -o cseditor cseditor.cxx /usr/lib/libfltk.a
-lXft -lXinerama -lpthread -lm -lX11

However cseditor.cxx doesn't directly use neither Xft nor Xinerama.

libxft-dev and libxinerama-dev should be at least Recommends.

I copy the admin/ directory from kapptemplate. So there isn't really
that much I can do in knetworkmanager about that (besides adding the
aforementioned Build-Conflicts).

I would be happy to see it become part of policy, but I don't consider
the issue important enough to try to convince people that their habits
of hardcoding paths are wrong -- except in specific cases where it
causes me trouble. When I discussed it with the menu maintainer, Bill
Allombert recently, he said:

| The full list of menu entries as of yesterday is there:
|
|
| There are 619 use of /usr/games/ out of 686 games.
|
| There are 3866 commands, 3532 of them using an absolute path.
|
| Hard-coded path in command field seems to be an entrenched historical
| practice. Strange stuff. Probably not worth the trouble to try to
| change that now.

> what I mean and care about that on your own? Or don't you see that

Since the menu files provide command strings that can be a whole shell
command, or even a sequence of commands, pdmenu can't just search the
path for the command string and show an error if it's not found. The
best that could be done would be to run the command and display an error
if it existed nonzero. But there are many reasons for a command to exit
nonzero, not just because the shell couldn't find it in the path. Some
commands might even exit nonzero after running more or less
successfully. So it's not really possible for pdmenu to display a
message that clarifies what's happening.

Bug#440946: pod2html: Various markup errors with (nested) definition lists

2007-09-06 Thread Frans Pop
I've sent an updated patch against 'bleadperl' upstream, including updates
for relevant testsets.

I'm not sure if testset updates are also needed for Debian, especially as
one test already fails (lib/Pod/t/htmllink.t) for 5.8.8-7.
The other relevant test (lib/Pod/t/htmlview.t) is currently OK.

Attached a patch for htmlview.t with needed updates for my patch. Let me
know if you want a patch for htmllink.t too, but that would then also
include a "blind" cleanup for the existing failures.

Cheers,
FJP

Bug#441138: Min-Max limits interpretation inverted for negative values

2007-09-06 Thread Bernard Jungen
Package: sensord
Version: 1:2.10.4-1
Severity: Important

Min-max limits meaning seems to be inverted here when negative (voltage)
values are involved, continuously setting off the alarm! Swapping the min-max
values in the config file fixes the problem, but then it's xsensors that
gets the limits wrong! Monitored chip is it87 and kernel is 2.6.18-4-k7.

Alas I had no chance yet to upgrade: a lot of work and the need for a stable
machine. Moreover I've noticed recently that further upgrades will need
upgrading some core packages other than apparently stable libc6.

To be honest, according to what I've read about Nvidia drivers, I don't
really expect the bug to really be fixed soon. Anyway, count on me to report
results when I upgrade.

Bernard.

ACK¹ - good point. But then the behaviour should be adjusted in
other packages according:

# grep -r 'Exec=.*bin/' /var/lib/menu-xdg/applications/menu-xdg/ | wc -l
502

There does not seem to exist any consensus how that should be
handled generally. I can't find an according policy inside
http://alioth.debian.org/docman/view.php/30046/2/menu-one-file.html#s3.6
as well. Do we care about the issue so it should become part of the

pdmenu as well: should I fill a separate bug report? Or do you know

php4(-dev) doesn't exist in unstable anymore.
IMO the only meaningful solution is to drop the php4-uuid binary
package.

Find attached a patch that rips out the php4 package.

"There is an RFC" is not always a good excuse for breaking existing systems.

"Admins can disable it" is not a good argument when one common class of
the breakage is all the systems that _don't_ disable it hammering
systems that have round-robins set up to distribute load. More
generally, "we added an option so your bug is fixed" is a common
fallacy.

getaddrinfo was around for many years before RFC 3484. It's been in
glibc since 1996. So you're saying that developers writing code in
the 90's should have somehow been aware of an RFC that was published in
2003.

BTW, I'm seeing some programs that use getaddrinfo and still don't have
the RFC 3484 sorting behavior. Is this controlled by the AI_ADDRCONFIG flag?

I was intending to do that myself, but please do beat me to it.

The real fix would be to find out why RTC time is not obtained (time
to debug qemu and linux kernel).

Eek. I kind of try to shy away from oldstable support. If it's
easy-enough fix, it could be fixed, if not, I'd rather document as
non-supported.  Opinions?

The first one makes a point to which I party agree, but also disagree.

It's atleast in the spirit of the rfc to prefer one that's on the local
network. It might be the intention of rule 9, but then rule 9 isn't
very well written.

In the case the server has 2 addresses assigned, I doubt that you're
going to advertise the local one outside. So you're atleast have a
different response for an internal and external query. I don't see
why the interal query should also return the external address.

I already suggested that maybe rule 9 should be limited to the common
prefix length of the netmask you're using. An other option is that you
extend rule 2 to have the same behaviour with ipv4, and that 10/8,
172.16/12 and 192.168/16 should be considered organization-local.

Ulrich Drepper actually called site-local in the second document, but
I think organization-local would be the right "scope" for it.

Like my T43, where I don't even have a securityfs in the kernel, no matter
what I do (and I do have a tpm, it is enabled, and the drivers are loaded).
I must search more for this thing, apparently... probably I need to change
some kconfig option.

We can just mount it. It is like tmpfs, so we could just check if it is
available in /proc/filesystems, and if it is, mount it. But *what* should
be the parameters for that mount command?

It should be umounted along with sysfs and procfs (i.e. last, or never).

Bug#441134: bsdgames: debian/menu invokes binaries inside Exec= without full path

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application

When selecting 'worms' for example inside application menu of pdmenu
and /usr/games isn't inside $PATH you can't invoke worms (there's a
very short flicking error message on the bottom of the screen only).
The same problem applies to other binaries inside bsdgames as well.

Would be great if the Exec= lines of debian/menu of bsdgames could
provide the full path to the applications instead of the binary
names only.

Bug#441083: sshpass breaks shopt -s checkwinsize

This bug isn't about storing passwords. sshpass doesn't store passwords, it
leaves that up to the program that invokes it. Right now, my program does
store passwords in plain text (base64 actually), but the plan is to move the
passwords into something like kwallet, which stores the passwords encrypted
against a passphrase.

As a side note, storing passwords in plain text (which is not the issue here)
is no less secure than using public key authentication with a weak or empty
passphrase. Either way, if your secrets file is compromised, it's bad.

MIT Kerberos stores its master key unencrypted on the disk, by the way.

> and so I am a bit reluctant to make the

I understand your reservations, and I think the warnings in the package
description and the man page are more than enough warning. As a package
maintainer, there is little you can do beyond that; You can't prevent users
from posting their private SSH keys on Usenet, for example.

Oh, it uses a different tty? I think there might be an ioctl that sshpass
needs to handle, then.

  The point is, there is an RFC, and we put a patch so that admins can
disable it using gai.conf.

  Note also that old calls like gethostbyname still return address
randomly. It's somehow accepted that people using getaddrinfo should be
aware of the RFC requirements wrt orderings, and that applications for
whose DNS resolutions round robins may matter should implement their own
randomization.

Bug#419482: Kernel 2.6.18 - ALI15X3 driver too optmistic about UDMA

2007-09-06 Thread Steve McIntyre
Hi,

I reported this problem initially to the Debian BTS back in April, but
I've not had a chance to follow up on it since - the moment I got the
system up and running again, it needed to keep running as a build
daemon for us. Now I've got some downtime to allow me to delve
further...

On the "cats" machines that we use for arm buildd work, it seems the
kernel is too aggressive in enabling UDMA support for the onboard IDE
chip:

  ALi Corporation M5229 IDE (rev c1)

aka

00:11.0 IDE interface: ALi Corporation M5229 IDE (rev c1) (prog-if fa)
Control: I/O+ Mem- BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop-
ParErr+ Stepping- SERR- FastB2B-
Status: Cap- 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium
>TAbort- SERR- id;
#endif /* CONFIG_WDC_ALI15X3 */

return 0;

if (m5229_revision <= 0x20) {
return 0;
} else if ((m5229_revision < 0xC2) &&
#ifndef CONFIG_WDC_ALI15X3
   ((chip_is_1543c_e && strstr(id->model, "WDC ")) ||
(drive->media!=ide_disk))) {
#else /* CONFIG_WDC_ALI15X3 */
   (drive->media!=ide_disk)) {
#endif /* CONFIG_WDC_ALI15X3 */
return 0;
} else {
return 1;
}
}

Looking back at the equivalent code in 2.4.27 (the previous kernel
this machine ran), that's rather different:

static u8 ali15x3_can_ultra (ide_drive_t *drive)
{
#ifndef CONFIG_WDC_ALI15X3
struct hd_driveid *id   = drive->id;
#endif /* CONFIG_WDC_ALI15X3 */

if (m5229_revision < 0xC1) {/* According to ALi */
return 0;
} else if ((m5229_revision < 0xC2) &&
#ifndef CONFIG_WDC_ALI15X3
   ((chip_is_1543c_e && strstr(id->model, "WDC ")) ||
(drive->media!=ide_disk))) {
#else /* CONFIG_WDC_ALI15X3 */
   (drive->media!=ide_disk)) {
#endif /* CONFIG_WDC_ALI15X3 */
return 0;
} else {
return 1;
}
}

So it would seem there has been a regression here - the assumption now
is that versions between 0x20 and 0xC1 can use UDMA fine unless there
is a WDC drive attached, but the old code wouldn't try UDMA at all on
chips older than rev C1.

In case it's relevant, I have a Samsung drive attached:

hda: SAMSUNG SP0411N, ATA DISK drive
ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14
Probing IDE interface ide1...
Probing IDE interface ide1...
hda: max request size: 128KiB
hda: 78242976 sectors (40060 MB) w/2048KiB Cache, CHS=16383/255/63, (U)DMA
hda: cache flushes supported
 hda: hda1 hda2

I have the machine out and ready to experiment with if any more
details are needed to help solve this problem.

Not really active.
I have got a new job, changed location, moving again in 3 weeks, was
on holiday last week and will be on holiday the next two weeks.

Over a month ago I tried to upload a new version of this package, but
my previous sponsor stopped all his sponsorings. I asked in debian.mentors
for a new sponsor but there was little responce and I replied too late
to it.

The source of my new packaged version was no longer available and the
one person responding requested a new package with the lastest source.

I still havn't found the time to fullfill this request. Sorry for that.

I will be able to create a new package in 3-4 weeks. In the mean
time, anyone willing to help or take over the package is welcomed.

Bug#438179: glibc's getaddrinfo() sort order

2007-09-06 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Hi,

I'm not agreeing with the glibc maintainer(s) about wether getaddrinfo()
should sort the results or not. I think the current way it sorts things
does not work at all in IPv4, and I think it hurts more than it does
good.

I'm seeking input from the tech-ctte on how to handle this.

Hi,

The pbuilder-satisfydepends invocation in qemubuilder passes options

the help message is displayed when trying to do sarge builds.

It is therefore impossible to build packages for Sarge with current
qemubuilder in Sid.

In the mean time while this bug was on, the harddrive developed a
surface failure and the environment no longer exists. I remember trying
to remove every additional package and doing several reinstall, but the
problem persisted. Perhaps that was related to the unforeseen disk
failure.

Bug closed.

Hi Marco,

I am going to prepare a new mdadm package soon and it would be nice
if you could send me the udev rules file for that (and maybe some

The implications of the bug are clear. This is about use scenario.
Storing a password in plain text truly is less secure than using private
keys (especially with ssh-add), and so I am a bit reluctant to make the
use of sshpass as a replacement to public key authentication too easy.

Well, you knew about SIGWINCH, which I didn't :-)

It's more to do with the fact that when run through sshpass, the ssh
process is connected to a different TTY than the one used by sshpass and
the parent process. If passing SIGWINCH along to ssh is all it will take
to make things work, I will gladly do it. If it takes starting to figure
out what goes wrong and why, I somewhat doubt I'll invest the time
(though, if you write a patch, I'll incorporate the fix into upstream,
of course).

I'm attaching the changes I made to debian/control and debian/rules to
get 2.2.1 to build in pbuilder but note the lack of a dependency on
g-wrap, just guile-g-wrap, just as the g-wrap maintainer expected.

The change to debian/rules just tweaks the generation of the .xpm file
because the upstream icon name has changed.

The debian/control changes involve:

1. retain guile-1.6-slib (not present in guile-1.8)

2. migrate to guile-1.8 (this could be dropped as guile-1.6-slib brings
in guile-1.6 and guile-g-wrap brings in guile-1.8 whereas gnucash
actually only builds with guile-1.6 currently and fails if only
guile-1.8 is installed!)

3. Specify the current g-wrap version to ensure we get the right one

4. Replace libgwrap-runtime0-dev with libgwrap-runtime-dev from g-wrap 1.9.9

One patch failed to apply when updating from 2.0.5 to the 2.2.1 tarball.

I haven't tested the 2.2.1 package yet but there appear to be
significant changes in the libraries that exist in the 2.2.1 package -
debdiff reports lots of foo.so.0.0.0 files replaced by foo.so.

Strangely, 2.2.1 also builds successfully against the old g-wrap and
doesn't show the bug in guile-1.8 that affects current SVN and 2.0.5 -
despite both using guile-1.6 and guile-1.8.

(I wish gnucash would finally drop guile - it causes far too many
problems for the amount of functionality gained.)

Bug#441131: apt-get: ignores file:// line in source.list

2007-09-06 Thread Stefan Völkel
Package: apt-get
Severity: normal

With the attached source.list apt-get ignores locally available packages
and instead downloads it from the internet.

Reordering the lines in sources.list did not have any effect.

How does it fail? It prints a notice (not even a warning) and that's
correct. It also exits with 0. You should just turn of AUTOSTART in
/etc/default/mdadm, since that does not work anyway in your case.
I added an FAQ entry.

Superblockless arrays are a thing of the past, why do you want to
use them?

How about changing the warning to

  letting initramfs assemble auto-detected arrays.

and making it an info message? Anyway, auto-detection requires
superblocks, so you have nothing to worry about.

I'll happily accept patches which solve this to your liking and
still prevent hundreds of users with unbootable systems.

Yours is a corner case. Please submit patches which split the
package into mdadm and auto-mdadm. I won't do it as I see no reason
for that. Debian's mdadm integration works for most cases out of the
box. This is what Debian is: it makes things easier for the
administrator. If you don't like what it does, well tell it (hint:
AUTOSTART).

With the AUTOSTART reference and the de-escalation in place, the
pending 2.6.3-1 upload shall close this.

Bug#441130: qemubuilder: leaves tty unusable

2007-09-06 Thread Jean-Baptiste Note
Package: qemubuilder
Version: 0.39
Severity: normal

Hi,

The latest (git) version of qemubuilder does not reset the terminal
properly despite the call to fix_terminal().

It leaves the terminal in bad need of a 'stty echo'.

My guess is that the close(0) which happens in:

  if ((child=fork()))
{
  /* this is parent process */

  close(sp[1]);
  close(0);

  FD_ZERO(&readfds);

makes the call to fix_terminal useless, because the fd 0 is now
closed. Indeed, removing close(0) fixes the bug. However, I'm not sure
if it's the right thing to do (I'm not sure why close(0) is there in the
first place either. It does not seem to be a problem to keep it open.)

Kind regards,
JB

Bug#441129: gnucash: fails to start after upgrade of g-wrap 1.9.9

2007-09-06 Thread Neil Williams
Package: gnucash
Version: 2.0.5-1.1
Severity: normal

This is just to help others who may have stumbled upon this problem and
to try to minimise the number of duplicate bug reports against gnucash.

gnucash 2.0.5-1.1 cannot work with g-wrap 1.9.9-1 which has just entered
unstable. See #441103.

After g-wrap is installed, gnucash fails to start.

If guile-g-wrap 1.9.9-1 is also installed, then gnucash crashes:

"/usr/bin/gnucash": not in executable format: File format not recognized

The backtrace is attached, indicating a problem in the gwrap calls.

I'm continuing to test but see also #435578 where the current gnucash
stable release appears to build against g-wrap 1.9.9 - although the
actual binaries are untested.

Note the versions of g-wrap and guile-g-wrap in the output below. What
is not shown is
ii  libgwrap-runtime2 1.9.9-1

Hence in #441103, it is this transition that is at the heart of the
problem. libgwrap-runtime0 remains installed alongside libgwrap-runtime2
but the version of g-wrap being called is that compatible with
libgwrap-runtime2, not the libgwrap-runtime0 linked against gnucash.

Great! I'm looking forward to a smooth transition.

I think so.

Yes! Please send patches! We really need to get an upload of the
current stable branch in Debian soon. Some work has already been
contributed towards this end. If you've sent patches already and I've
missed them, please re-send - things have a way of getting lost in my
mailbox.

See svn://svn.systemimager.org/svn/systemimager-debian/trunk for
current status.

I'm more than happy to hand systemimager off, but I'd prefer it be to
someone who has been contributing for a while since its a rather
complex package. Of course, if this doesn't happen in the next couple
months I'll probably just need to orphan it and let someone else claim
it w/o the transition period.

IT consulting. Some customers are using password authentication on their
machines, and the scenario doesn't warrant setting up public key
authentication (users need to be able to deny me access by merely changing
their root password).

Programs like "vim" and "less" aren't responding properly to changing the size
of my xterm, which is a pain if I'm watching a log or something like that.

My uneducated guess is that sshpass isn't passing on SIGWINCH to the ssh
process.

Bug#441123: udev does not create /dev/root

2007-09-06 Thread Tobias Knieper
Package: udev
Version: Version: 0.114-2

Hello,
my kernel reports via cat /proc/mounts that / is beeing mounted at /dev/root,
but /dev/root does not exist. A guy in #hal on irc said that its udevs job to
create that device node.

The outcome of this is that lshal reports that is_mounted from that device is
false, even if its perfectly mounted at /.

I'm currently running a self compiled 2.6.21 kernel. CONFIG_BLK_DEV_RAM and
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_INITRD are not set. CONFIG_RAMFS=y (forced)

I hope I got the things correctly together and you get what my problem is.

Thanks a lot,
Tobias Knieper
