Bug#445814: Further Investigations
Hello! further investigations showed that there was a change in the semantics how signals are delivered to a multithreaded application with the change to NPTL implementation. Therefore only one thread gets the signal SIGALRM and only one thread is able to handle the onTimer correctly. So i think the library needs a fix to still provide the functionality of timers with onTimer callback in each PosixThread. regards Mike -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#410028: cdcat segfaults often upon reading a cd
Hi, I have tested the cdcat that You have sent me. It no longer crashes on AVI files so far, much better this way than the distributional version. However, it still crashes. Usually on editation of media label, description and so on. It seems, that saving frequently helps preventing the crashes. So I assume that some kind of buffer gets filled or whatever. For example, if I add new medium, change the description, add another medium, and so on, after 2 or 3 media it crashes. However, if I save after each one, it dosen't crash. I hope this could be helpful.. Peter -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#445920: sg3-utils: Much too long (and pretty useless) package description
Package: sg3-utils Severity: normal This bug popped up when I went translating this package's description for the DDTP, in French. Listing each and every utility in the package makes the description insanely long, and therefore turns translation into a huge PITA. I don't really see the benefit for our users to know *in the package description* what does each utility provided by this package. Moreover, having it in the description means changing the list as soon as an utility is added. I suggest simply removing that giant list and move it into a README.Debian file.if it is not already somewhere in upstream's README files. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Package: acpi-support Version: 0.103-1 Followup-For: Bug #373660 I just installed this version of acpid trying to fix sleep issues on my T60p. Afterwards, acpi_fakekey 142 still has no effect. Bug#445916: psi: Segfaults on sparc when choosing the "User Info"
Package: psi Version: 0.11~rc3-1 Severity: important Steps to reproduce. 1) Create an account 2) Connect to the server 3) Choose any user and click User Info or press Ctrl-I. Additional notes. I'm running Debian Etch and I have backported this package from experimental. It refused to compile on etch because the configure script requires at least Qt 4.2.3 to be install while Etch has Qt 4.2.1. But since there are no differenses in the API between 4.2.1 and 4.2.3, I have manually dropped the requirement to 4.2.1 and then compiled it successfuly. I don't beleive that this can be reason for such a segfault. Bug#445915: feh --thumbnails and --full-screen does not work together
Package: feh Version: 1.3.4-2 Severity: normal I am trying to get feh to display ~1.5k images using the --thumbnails mode with the images that do not fit off-screen, and when I click on an image I would like that image displayed zoomed (in/out) to fill the entire screen. If I use --full-screen (-F) or --geometry 1920x1200 then the thumbnails window is forced into full screen which results in thumbnails that are a few pixels wide. Setting --thumb-height 64 --thumb-width 64 makes no difference, nor does setting --screen-clip 1. The (imperfect) work-around is to press v after you click on an image. Bug#445913: acpid: Allow laptop to sleep on lid close
Package: acpid Version: 1.0.4-7.1 Severity: normal Right now, the default acpid setup only turns off the display when a laptop closes, generating event/lidbtn, which runs lid.sh. Does the hybrid mutex performance fix in db 4.6.21 solve this problem? I've just rerun my tests using both BDB 4.2.52 and 4.6.21 and the behavior is as expected. On an otherwise idle machine, both perform well, completing our concurrency test in about 31 seconds. With a CPU-hog running in the background, the test with BDB 4.2.52 takes only 37 seconds, while BDB 4.6.21 takes 1:42. Watching with top you can see that BDB 4.6.21 gets a lot less CPU than BDB 4.2.52. This is the problem with using yield() on an NPTL system - whereas on most POSIX systems yield() only yields control to some other thread in the current process, on NPTL yield() gives up the CPU for the entire process. -- -- Howard Chu Chief Architect, Symas Corp. http://www.symas.com Director, Highland Sunhttp://highlandsun.com/hyc/ Chief Architect, OpenLDAP http://www.openldap.org/project/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#445912: ITP: docvert -- Converts word processor files to OpenDocument and HTML
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Francois Marier <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> * Package name: docvert Version : 3.3rc2 Upstream Author : Matthew Cruickshank <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> * URL : http://www.docvert.org/ * License : GPL Programming Lang: PHP Description : Converts word processor files to OpenDocument and HTML Docvert is a web application whic takes word processor files (typically .doc) and converts them to OpenDocument and clean HTML. . The resulting OpenDocument is then optionally converted to HTML or any XML. This is done with XML Pipelines, an approach that supports XSLT, breaking up content over headings or sections, and saving those results to multiple files (e.g., chapter1.html, chapter2.html, ...). The result is returned in a .zip file. . Docvert has a user-friendly interface, and it's easy to integrate with other software as it uses a simple REST-style interface. The XML produced is easier to understand and more structured than the WordML or .DOC formats. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_CA, LC_CTYPE=fr_CA (charmap=ISO-8859-1) (ignored: LC_ALL set to fr_CA) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#214741: More info on this bug
Four years later (to the day, coincidentally), this bug still exists, though in a slightly different form. I've done some research and can provide a bit more information. If $myhostname isn't defined manually in the config file, Postfix uses gethostname() to query the system's hostname. $myhostname needs to be an FQDN, though, so if the name returned by gethostname() doesn't contain at least one dot, it appends the value of $mydomain if that's defined in the config file, or else the static string "localdomain". Notably, Postfix does *not* call gethostbyname() on the name returned by gethostname(), the way the "hostname --fqdn" command does. This'll work as expected if gethostname() returns an FQDN, but on a typically-configured Debian system, it doesn't. It returns a "short" hostname, and this leads to Postfix using e.g. "foo.localdomain" as $myhostname, even though "hostname --fqdn" returns "foo.bar.com". Steps to reproduce: * Install a fresh copy of Debian (current release is etch). * When asked for the machine's hostname during installation, enter "foo". * When asked for the machine's domain name, enter "bar.com". * Install Postfix, and choose the default "Internet Site" configuration. The "mail name" setting doesn't matter. * Remove the "myhostname = foo.bar.com" line from /etc/postfix/main.cf. This line is put there by debconf, and it works around the problem, but it's redundant and shouldn't be necessary. The machine already knows its FQDN, and the sensible default would be to use it. * Run "hostname --fqdn" and "hostname --domain". They will return "foo.bar.com" and "bar.com" respectively, as expected. * Run "postconf myhostname" and "postconf mydomain". They will return "foo.localdomain" and "localdomain" respectively. This is wrong. Postfix's behavior here suggests that the machine's hostname, as returned by gethostname() (i.e. the "hostname" command, without the "--fqdn" option) is supposed to be an FQDN. But that isn't the case on Debian, (nor on other common Linux distros AFAIK), and I don't see why I'd want my system configured that way anyway. There don't seem to be any clear guidelines or best practices on this matter. Since Postfix wants an FQDN for $myhostname, I think it should get the default value in the same way the "hostname --fqdn" command does: get the (probably short) hostname using gethostname(), and then call gethostbyname() on it to look up the FQDN. It's still possible to get something that isn't an FQDN on a misconfigured system, but at least the behavior would be consistent with that of the well-known hostname tool, and would work as expected with Debian's out-of-the-box configuration. (As an aside, it's possible to get an FQDN hostname in Debian by typing an FQDN into the hostname box during installation. It contradicts the instructions in that box, which say that "the hostname is a single word", but the installer is smart enough to skip asking for the domain name when an FQDN is entered as the hostname. But this causes problems of its own: the Postfix Debconf stuff thinks the machine's FQDN is "foo.bar.com.bar.com".) -- Mike Paul <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Bug#445901: docbook-xsl: Your wishlist idea is nonsense

My recommendation is not a MUST - if you don't like this practice or if you have no sf.net account to report your problem to upstream - well, then simply bother me. I cannot remember, that I ever attacked a bug reporter. However, I have to say the following: It is really that hard to first speak with upstream about a wish for a software, that MUST stay very close to upstream? You expect me to read *your* idea, then you expect me to think about *your* idea and then you expect me to express and discuss *your* idea/wish with upstream, although it wasn't my idea nor wish? Can you tell me, why this practice should have any advantage for you or me? It just increases the work I have to do. Discuss your idea with upstream and give me a pointer. If I like your idea I will contribute to the discussion. If not, it's completely your turn. In every case, it needs your activity. You will not win anything by reporting every wishlist entry to me, because I don't have access to upstream SVN nor do I make the design decisions. And about bug-reporting. It's not a MUST to report a bug to upstream first. Maybe my comment is a bit misleading here. But if you report a bug to the Debian BTS first, I also have to file a bug-report to the upstream BTS (I work closely with upstream doing bug-fixing and feature adding, count my own entries in their tracker). So you again reduce my work doing, what must be done: reporting the bug to upstream. In every case, I will write and suggest patches if you report a bug. But I have more time for these things, if I do not have to do all the things, users could already have done. In the case of docbook-xsl, this was a very good practice in the past and you did not attach any kind of proof, that it does not work not that it "[..] hasn't a hope in hell of working [..]". > I have > no idea what drugs you were on when you thought this might work > (caffiene, EtOH, ...), but this hasn't a hope in hell of working. My drugs are reasoning and common sense. But if you are going to keep this offending discussion style, then do not expect any further answers from my side. I always appreciate ideas to improve things. But your insulting report doesn't improve anything. Suggest a better practice and explain the advantages of your proposal if you are really interested in improving things. I'll give you a week to send me a proposal or I will close this report. Bug#445909: pfstools: octave dependency should be optional
Package: pfstools Version: 1.6.2-1 Severity: wishlist Given that most of the stuff in pfstools doesn't have any connection with octave, it's a bit silly that octave gets dragged in as a dependency -- octave is a huge package and in my experience often has packaging problems[*]. [*] It was uninstallable for a while recently (and has been before too), and indeed, when installing octave to satisfy the pfstools dependency, the installation gave errors! Ideally, the octave-related stuff should be a separate package, and suggested/recommended by the pfstools main package. I think "suggested", as octave support is more a "nice thing", and not needed for what I think are typical uses of pfstools (in my case, hdr format conversion, tonemapping, environment map format conversion). Package: tuareg-mode Version: 1:1.45.4-3 Severity: minor Editing a file sometimes leaves lines highlighted as if they were comments or strings. Bug#445172: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#445172: xfce4: XFCE doesn't register keyboard shortcuts on startup; acts as if Alt were constantly pressed
Simon Huggins wrote: ::snip? SNIP!:: Hrm, how bizarre. Your locale is en_US is there anything odd about your keyboard setup in your X config? Can you give us the lines you have? I've attached my X config. I'm currently running with the binary driver, though the problem persists regardless of whether I use "nv" or "nvidia." Do you have any Xmodmap files or any other local keyboard config that might be getting in the way? Not that I'm aware of. This was a clean install when I ran into the problem Note that I installed the Debian base and then installed everything else by hand with apt-get/aptitude. This has worked flawlessly on a number of machines I've set up in the past, which is why I'm so confused. Does this still happen if you just use startx? It does happen if I still use startx. I noticed that if I merely kill xfce-mcs-manager and xfwm4 and start them over again (without touching any settings stuff), it just starts working properly. And as a new development, when I start X, xfwm4 either isn't started or dies immediately. I have no idea whether or not this is related to the original problem or something different. Nonetheless, as I noted above, once I start it manually (from a terminal), it works as expected. Actually, now that I think about it, I believe the xfwm4 not starting properly happened about when I added the composite stanza to my xorg.conf (this in relation to debian bug 445323). --xsdg Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "X.org Configured" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice"Mouse0" "CorePointer" InputDevice"Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" EndSection Section "Files" RgbPath "/etc/X11/rgb" ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/cyrillic" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi" FontPath "/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType" EndSection Section "Module" Load "dbe" Load "glx" Load "record" Load "xtrap" Load "extmod" Load "dri" Load "GLcore" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" Option "CoreKeyboard" Option "XkbRules" "xorg" Option "XkbModel" "pc104" Option "XkbLayout" "us" Option "XkbCompat" "" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "Monitor Vendor" ModelName"Monitor Model" VertRefresh 40-150 HorizSync 31.5-64.3 DisplaySize 324 243 EndSection Section "Device" ### Available Driver options are:- ### Values: : integer, : float, : "True"/"False", ### : "String", : " Hz/kHz/MHz" ### [arg]: arg optional #Option "SWcursor" # [] #Option "HWcursor" # [] #Option "NoAccel" # [] #Option "ShadowFB" # [] #Option "UseFBDev" # [] #Option "Rotate"# [] #Option "VideoKey" # #Option "FlatPanel" # [] #Option "FPDither" # [] #Option "CrtcNumber"# #Option "FPScale" # [] #Option "FPTweak" # #Option "DualHead" # [] Identifier "Card0" # Driver "nv" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "nVidia Corporation" BoardName "G72 [GeForce 7300 SE]" BusID "PCI:2:0:0" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Card0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth24 SubSection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "1280x960" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1280x960" EndSubSection EndSection Section "DRI" Mode0666 EndSection Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" "Disable" EndSection

Yes, yes, I know, the package has been ready since the day of the release. I was hopping to do the upload myself instead of asking a sponsor, but I've been waiting for my debian account to be created for one month, now... Guess I will have to find a sponsor again. Bug#445883: CVE-2007-5226 remote denial of service
Package: dircproxy Version: 1.0.5-3 Severity: grave Tags: security Hi, the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) id was published for dircproxy. CVE-2007-5226[0]: | irc_server.c in dircproxy 1.2.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to | cause a denial of service (segmentation fault) via an ACTION command | without a parameter, which triggers a NULL pointer dereference, as | demonstrated using a blank /me message from irssi. If you fix this vulnerability please also include the CVE id in your changelog entry. The null pointer dereference itself is not that big kind of a problem here but since this also means to lose the data you want to read while you are away I mark this as grave. Hi, thanks for the link! Sorry for my mistake. I have tested it again and it works now. I dont know why my first test does not work. But that does not matter now. I hope to fix this tomorrow for stable and for unstable. Thanks. Frank pgpUoF7bZhps0.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#441652: gnome-pilot: Only sync once
Hi Felipe, gnome-pilot currently has some issues when compiled with HAL support as you might have noticed: Op maandag 08-10-2007 om 23:23 uur [tijdzone +0200], schreef Paco Queen: > Compiled following Arjan's instructions (except for a little errata in > apt-get build-dep) and confirmed. No HAL, no sync problem. > > Thanks, Arjan. Maybe we should upload a version without HAL support to unstable for the time being? Do you have the time to prepare an upload or can/should I do a NMU? BTW: do you use a version control system for the gnome-pilot Debian package? If you do, could you provide a link to the VCS? If you don't have a VCS yet it might be a good idea to set something up (on Alioth for instance.) Greetings Arjan signature.asc Description: Dit berichtdeel is digitaal ondertekend

Bug#445882: RFA: xxdiff -- a graphical file and directories comparison and merge tool
Package: wnpp Severity: normal I request an adopter for the xxdiff package. I'm orphaning the package since I'm not using it (I use vimdiff instead) and since I genereally want to shed responsability. The package is in good state IMHO, it's usable, nice and pretty mature and doesn't require much attention or maintenance. Upstream hasn't been very active for a while as well. It has smaller issues with font handling though, that would be nice to look into however seems to run fine on the vast majority of setups. The package description is: A powerful tool for viewing the differences between two or three files, or two directories, and can be used to produce a merged version. The texts of the two or three files are presented side by side with their differences highlighted with colors for easy identification. Among its features are: . * can compare two files, three files, or two directories (shallow and recursive); * horizontal diffs highlighting; * files can be merged interactively and resulting output visualized and saved; * can unmerge CVS conflicts in automatically merged files and display themi as two files, to help resolve conflicts; * fully customizable with a resource file; . The scripts that accompany xxdiff can be found in the xxdiff-tools package. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.21-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#445866: ITP: perforce -- closed source revision control system
Florian Weimer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Seems to me that this depends on Perforce. D'oh. > > (I don't know anything about Perforce. Perhaps it's really dangerous > software. But perhaps it's just non-free.) Perforce is an absolutely *excellent* VCS with the unfortunate distinction of being proprietary. SubVersion can do most (but not all) of what it does, albeit 10 times slower. Still, I've migrated all of my stuff over to subversion, because, well, subversion is free. Perforce is free (as in "free beer") for open source developers, if you want more than 2 users on one VCS server, you have to sign a contract, get a license, give the perforce people full access to your repo, sign a new contract whenever you server's IP address changes, and renew each year - Tyler -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
