Bug#445924: manedit: segfaults when trying to make a new manpage

2007-10-08 Thread Luca Bedogni
Package: manedit
Version: 0.8.1-3
Severity: normal

Hi
manedit segfaults when trying to open a new manpage from the button
"New", both with the new option and the new from template.
Opening a manpage from the file menu works well.

Regards

Bug#445923: ikiwiki: [INTL:fr] French program translation update

2007-10-08 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: ikiwiki
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

(this is a standard message, not customized for your package)

Please find attached the french translation of this package's
programs, proofread by the debian-l10n-french mailing list
contributors.

This file should be put as "fr.po" in the appropriate po/
directory. If this package is not a native Debian package, please
don't forget to forward this translation to the upstream maintainer.

Depending on the version of the build tools or the build process used
in the software, you may have to update the LINGUAS variable in the
configure scripts in case the french translation is a *new*
translation for this software/package.

Did this work fine with any earlier version of Mesa? Could you try with
7.0.1-1, 6.5.3, 6.5.2, ... ?

Bug#445814: Further Investigations

2007-10-08 Thread Michael Rumpler
Hello!

further investigations showed that there was a change in the semantics
how signals are delivered to a multithreaded application with the change
to NPTL implementation.
Therefore only one thread gets the signal SIGALRM and only one thread is
able to handle the onTimer correctly.
So i think the library needs a fix to still provide the functionality of
timers with onTimer callback in each PosixThread.

Mike

Bug#410028: cdcat segfaults often upon reading a cd

2007-10-08 Thread Mgr. Peter Tuharsky

Hi,

I have tested the cdcat that You have sent me. It no longer crashes on
AVI files so far, much better this way than the distributional version.

However, it still crashes. Usually on editation of media label,
description and so on.

It seems, that saving frequently helps preventing the crashes. So I
assume that some kind of buffer gets filled or whatever. For example, if
I add new medium, change the description, add another medium, and so on,
after 2 or 3 media it crashes. However, if I save after each one, it
dosen't crash.

I hope this could be helpful..

Peter

Bug#445920: sg3-utils: Much too long (and pretty useless) package description

2007-10-08 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: sg3-utils
Severity: normal

This bug popped up when I went translating this package's description for
the DDTP, in French.

Listing each and every utility in the package makes the description insanely
long, and therefore turns translation into a huge PITA.

I don't really see the benefit for our users to know *in the package
description* what does each utility provided by this package.

Moreover, having it in the description means changing the list as soon as an
utility is added.

I suggest simply removing that giant list and move it into a README.Debian
file.if it is not already somewhere in upstream's README files.

Bug#445919: dolphin won't open trash from desktop icon

2007-10-08 Thread Lance W. Haverkamp
Package: dolphin
Version: 0.7.0 (etch/stable)

When you set dolphin as the default file manager in KDE 3.5.5
(Etch/Stable): control center > file associations > inode > directory.
Then click on the Desktop trash icon you get the following error:

Malformed URL trash:/

You can open the trash properly from inside dolphin, but not by using
the Desktop icon.

I see this same bug has been reported in other distro's, so it does not
appear to be a Debian only issue.

(using Etch with kernel 2.6.18-4-486)

Bug#445917: gnome-power-manager: network not correctly restarted on resume

2007-10-08 Thread Jerry Quinn
Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 2.18.3-1
Severity: normal

When I suspend my laptop with a wireless connection, and then resume,
networking fails to resume correctly. This is a T60p with atheros chipset
and madwifi driver. After resuming, ifstate lists ath0 as running, but
the interface is not up. I have to do ifup --force ath0 or down and up the
interface to get a connection.

If I disable gnome-power-manager, things work as expected. The acpi-support

Nice, a bugreport on a package that isn't even in the archive yet :)
Thanks for reporting though, will be fixed with next upload...

/var/log/acpid

Bug#445916: psi: Segfaults on sparc when choosing the "User Info"

2007-10-08 Thread Max Dmitrichenko
Package: psi
Version: 0.11~rc3-1
Severity: important

Steps to reproduce.
 1) Create an account
 2) Connect to the server
 3) Choose any user and click User Info or press Ctrl-I.

Additional notes. I'm running Debian Etch and I have backported
this package from experimental. It refused to compile on etch because
the configure script requires at least Qt 4.2.3 to be install while
Etch has Qt 4.2.1. But since there are no differenses in the
API between 4.2.1 and 4.2.3, I have manually dropped the requirement
to 4.2.1 and then compiled it successfuly. I don't beleive that
this can be reason for such a segfault.

I haven't tested it yet on i386.

Bug#445915: feh --thumbnails and --full-screen does not work together

2007-10-08 Thread Allan Wind
Package: feh
Version: 1.3.4-2
Severity: normal

I am trying to get feh to display ~1.5k images using the --thumbnails
mode with the images that do not fit off-screen, and when I click on an
image I would like that image displayed zoomed (in/out) to fill the
entire screen.

If I use --full-screen (-F) or --geometry 1920x1200 then the thumbnails
window is forced into full screen which results in thumbnails that are a
few pixels wide. Setting --thumb-height 64 --thumb-width 64 makes no
difference, nor does setting --screen-clip 1.

The (imperfect) work-around is to press v after you click on an image.
This sets full screen mode, but only for the image window and not the
one contained the thumbnails.

Just one version which uses legacy sysfs/usbfs polling code instead of

Bug#440342: "grep -w" implies "-o"

2007-10-08 Thread Tony Abou-Assaleh
I am unable to confirm this bug. GNU grep 2.5.3 from ftp.gnu.org and from
Savannah CVS works fine with -w in that it does not imply -o. I tested
this on Mac OS X and Debian under different locales.

If you can reproduce this bug with the CVS or the release version, let me
know.

Bug#445913: acpid: Allow laptop to sleep on lid close

2007-10-08 Thread Jerry Quinn
Package: acpid
Version: 1.0.4-7.1
Severity: normal

Right now, the default acpid setup only turns off the display when a laptop
closes, generating event/lidbtn, which runs lid.sh. I would prefer it to go to
sleep, at least if running off battery. Others possibly prefer something
different, so this should be configurable.

sleep.sh allows gnome-power-manager to make the decision. lid.sh should
at least allow the same thing if not the ability to do this directly.

Does the hybrid mutex performance fix in db 4.6.21 solve this problem?

I've just rerun my tests using both BDB 4.2.52 and 4.6.21 and the behavior is
as expected. On an otherwise idle machine, both perform well, completing our
concurrency test in about 31 seconds.

With a CPU-hog running in the background, the test with BDB 4.2.52 takes only
37 seconds, while BDB 4.6.21 takes 1:42. Watching with top you can see that
BDB 4.6.21 gets a lot less CPU than BDB 4.2.52. This is the problem with using
yield() on an NPTL system - whereas on most POSIX systems yield() only yields
control to some other thread in the current process, on NPTL yield() gives up
the CPU for the entire process.

I haven't tested 4.6.21 yet. Looking at the diff from 4.6.19 I see they simply
inserted a yield() into the spinlock loop. I expect that this will introduce
other problems on NPTL systems, since yield()'s behavior is so unfriendly in NPTL.

Bug#445912: ITP: docvert -- Converts word processor files to OpenDocument and HTML

2007-10-08 Thread Francois Marier
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Francois Marier <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: docvert
  Version : 3.3rc2
  Upstream Author : Matthew Cruickshank <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.docvert.org/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: PHP
Description : Converts word processor files to OpenDocument and HTML

Docvert is a web application whic takes word processor files (typically .doc)
and converts
them to OpenDocument and clean HTML.
 .
The resulting OpenDocument is then optionally converted to HTML or any XML.
This is done
with XML Pipelines, an approach that supports XSLT, breaking up content over
headings or
sections, and saving those results to multiple files (e.g., chapter1.html,
chapter2.html,
...). The result is returned in a .zip file.
 .
Docvert has a user-friendly interface, and it's easy to integrate with other
software as it
uses a simple REST-style interface. The XML produced is easier to understand
and more
structured than the WordML or .DOC formats.

Bug#214741: More info on this bug

2007-10-08 Thread Mike Paul
Four years later (to the day, coincidentally), this bug still exists,
though in a slightly different form. I've done some research and can
provide a bit more information.

If $myhostname isn't defined manually in the config file, Postfix uses
gethostname() to query the system's hostname. $myhostname needs to be
an FQDN, though, so if the name returned by gethostname() doesn't
contain at least one dot, it appends the value of $mydomain if that's
defined in the config file, or else the static string "localdomain".

Notably, Postfix does *not* call gethostbyname() on the name returned by
gethostname(), the way the "hostname --fqdn" command does.

This'll work as expected if gethostname() returns an FQDN, but on a
typically-configured Debian system, it doesn't. It returns a "short"
hostname, and this leads to Postfix using e.g. "foo.localdomain" as
$myhostname, even though "hostname --fqdn" returns "foo.bar.com".

Steps to reproduce:
  * Install a fresh copy of Debian (current release is etch).
  * When asked for the machine's hostname during installation, enter
"foo".
  * When asked for the machine's domain name, enter "bar.com".
  * Install Postfix, and choose the default "Internet Site"
configuration. The "mail name" setting doesn't matter.
  * Remove the "myhostname = foo.bar.com" line
from /etc/postfix/main.cf. This line is put there by debconf,
and it works around the problem, but it's redundant and
shouldn't be necessary. The machine already knows its FQDN, and
the sensible default would be to use it.
  * Run "hostname --fqdn" and "hostname --domain". They will return
"foo.bar.com" and "bar.com" respectively, as expected.
  * Run "postconf myhostname" and "postconf mydomain". They will
return "foo.localdomain" and "localdomain" respectively. This
is wrong.

Postfix's behavior here suggests that the machine's hostname, as
returned by gethostname() (i.e. the "hostname" command, without the
"--fqdn" option) is supposed to be an FQDN. But that isn't the case on
Debian, (nor on other common Linux distros AFAIK), and I don't see why
I'd want my system configured that way anyway. There don't seem to be
any clear guidelines or best practices on this matter.

Since Postfix wants an FQDN for $myhostname, I think it should get the
default value in the same way the "hostname --fqdn" command does: get
the (probably short) hostname using gethostname(), and then call
gethostbyname() on it to look up the FQDN. It's still possible to get
something that isn't an FQDN on a misconfigured system, but at least the
behavior would be consistent with that of the well-known hostname tool,
and would work as expected with Debian's out-of-the-box configuration.

(As an aside, it's possible to get an FQDN hostname in Debian by typing
an FQDN into the hostname box during installation. It contradicts the
instructions in that box, which say that "the hostname is a single
word", but the installer is smart enough to skip asking for the domain
name when an FQDN is entered as the hostname. But this causes problems
of its own: the Postfix Debconf stuff thinks the machine's FQDN is
"foo.bar.com.bar.com".)

Does the hybrid mutex performance fix in db 4.6.21 solve this problem?

I'd say upload only the client to non-free.

We should provide users a way to use their existent preforce servers but
we should not encourage new installations of perforce.

Sounds like a compromise to me :)

Bug#445901: docbook-xsl: Your wishlist idea is nonsense

My recommendation is not a MUST - if you don't like this practice or if
you have no sf.net account to report your problem to upstream - well,
then simply bother me. I cannot remember, that I ever attacked a bug
reporter.

However, I have to say the following: It is really that hard to first
speak with upstream about a wish for a software, that MUST stay very
close to upstream? You expect me to read *your* idea, then you expect me
to think about *your* idea and then you expect me to express and discuss
*your* idea/wish with upstream, although it wasn't my idea nor wish? Can
you tell me, why this practice should have any advantage for you or me?
It just increases the work I have to do. Discuss your idea with upstream
and give me a pointer. If I like your idea I will contribute to the
discussion. If not, it's completely your turn. In every case, it needs
your activity. You will not win anything by reporting every wishlist
entry to me, because I don't have access to upstream SVN nor do I make
the design decisions.

And about bug-reporting. It's not a MUST to report a bug to upstream
first. Maybe my comment is a bit misleading here. But if you report a
bug to the Debian BTS first, I also have to file a bug-report to the
upstream BTS (I work closely with upstream doing bug-fixing and feature
adding, count my own entries in their tracker). So you again reduce my
work doing, what must be done: reporting the bug to upstream. In every
case, I will write and suggest patches if you report a bug. But I have
more time for these things, if I do not have to do all the things, users
could already have done.

In the case of docbook-xsl, this was a very good practice in the past
and you did not attach any kind of proof, that it does not work not that
it "[..] hasn't a hope in hell of working [..]".

> I have
> no idea what drugs you were on when you thought this might work
> (caffiene, EtOH, ...), but this hasn't a hope in hell of working.

My drugs are reasoning and common sense. But if you are going to keep
this offending discussion style, then do not expect any further answers
from my side.

I always appreciate ideas to improve things. But your insulting report
doesn't improve anything. Suggest a better practice and explain the
advantages of your proposal if you are really interested in improving
things.

I'll give you a week to send me a proposal or I will close this report.

Regards, Daniel

Bug#445909: pfstools: octave dependency should be optional

2007-10-08 Thread Miles Bader
Package: pfstools
Version: 1.6.2-1
Severity: wishlist

Given that most of the stuff in pfstools doesn't have any connection
with octave, it's a bit silly that octave gets dragged in as a
dependency -- octave is a huge package and in my experience often has
packaging problems[*].

[*] It was uninstallable for a while recently (and has been before too),
and indeed, when installing octave to satisfy the pfstools dependency,
the installation gave errors!

Ideally, the octave-related stuff should be a separate package, and
suggested/recommended by the pfstools main package. I think "suggested",
as octave support is more a "nice thing", and not needed for what I
think are typical uses of pfstools (in my case, hdr format conversion,
tonemapping, environment map format conversion).

Thanks,

-Miles

During subsequent checks, I found that pidgin always fails to connect

If I stop uploading, pidgin connects without a hitch. Are there

All the "../../../../" lines are confusing in that it's not clear

clear that they're there because someone was doing a little debugging

Bug#445906: boinc-client: SSL fails with ca-bundle.crt linked to ca-certificates

2007-10-08 Thread Greg Norris
Package: boinc-client
Version: 5.10.8-2
Severity: normal

With the supplied ~boinc/ca-bundle.crt, which is a symlink to
/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt, boinc-client is unable to
communicate with the World Community Grid project (which requires SSL).
The logfile shows the following error messages:

2007-10-05 20:21:45 [World Community Grid] Sending scheduler request:

2007-10-05 20:21:45 [World Community Grid] (not requesting new work or

2007-10-05 20:21:50 [World Community Grid] Reason: scheduler request failed

After replacing the symlink with ca-bundle.crt from upstream, everything
works as expected.

Bug#445904: ITP: php-xml-htmlsax3 -- A SAX parser for HTML and other badly formed XML documents

2007-10-08 Thread Romain Beauxis
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Romain Beauxis <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: php-xml-htmlsax3
  Version : 3.0.0~rc1
  Upstream Author : Harry Fuecks
* URL : http://pear.php.net/package/XML_HTMLSax3/
* License : PHP
  Programming Lang: PHP
Description : A SAX parser for HTML and other badly formed XML documents

This package contains files that are already present in some packages,
namely gallery, gallery2, knowledgeroot, and upstream's SPIP.

The licence of this file has been an issue since it was badly versioned
and should apply only to PHP.

But further readings of ftp-master's origianl answer revealead that
licencee is allowed to upgrade the licence to the most recent version.

However, this licence should apply to php realted packages only, not
webapps like this is the case for the packages above.

Therefore, even though the project is not maintained anymore, I plan to
package this piece of code since it seems used by many projects, and at
least we'll be able to do some QA on it more easily, which is an
important fact since this code is used to generate "safe" html code from
user's input.

bah, that was a useless reply.

Other people recommend a non-modular kernel, especially if no modules
are needed. There is no reason not to support this configuration.

Here's another patch, a little less quick and dirty than the one in
433708. Works for me, but I can't promise it doesn't break someone's
hook script somewhere.

Bug#445899: istanbul: Please make this functional for non-GNOME WMs

2007-10-08 Thread Roberto C. Sanchez
Package: istanbul
Version: 0.2.1-3
Severity: minor

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Unfortunately, it appears that unless your desktop has a notification
area (like GNOME), then istanbul is next to useless. I use WindowMaker
and I dislike having to switch to GNOME just to record my desktop with
istanbul. It would be quite nice if it included a command-line option,
like "--record-now" that would allow the user to run it and have it
start recording right away. I'm not sure how you would get it to stop,
perhaps have the user return the console where it was run and hit Ctrl-C
(the program can intercept the signal).

Regards,

Do you get any interesting logs in .xsession-errors ?

(it might help if you check outside of X, move the file away and then
restart it to see what is generated in this session)

You could try moving your .config and .cache (or just the xfce related
bits) out of the way temporarily to see if there's something in your
xfce config causing this too.

Package: gnome-mount

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
I tried to use gnome-mount to mount a my usb-flash (vfat partition volume).
So default vfat mount options are defined in gconf to 'shortname=lower, uid='
It's great, but I wan't to add flush extra option.
So I've done the following :
gnome-mount /dev/sda1 --extra-mount-options flush
But unfortunately default mount-options aren't keep.
I've tried to specify that fstype is vfat, but it still overwrite vfat mount
options.

Bug#445895: libcallback.so.0.0.0 and libavcall.so.0.0.0 mistakenly listed as requiring an executable stack

2007-10-08 Thread Eddy Petrișor
Package: libffcall1
Version: 1.10+2.41-3
Severity: normal

These commands show both shared objects provided by libffcall1 to need an
executable stack.

bounty:/usr/lib# readelf -l /usr/lib/libcallback.so.0.0.0 | grep STACK
  GNU_STACK 0x 0x 0x
bounty:/usr/lib# readelf -l /usr/lib/libavcall.so.0.0.0 | grep STACK
  GNU_STACK 0x 0x 0x

I believe that this is a mistake and is an issue on SELinux systems since it
requires lowering security protections.

Please see http://people.redhat.com/drepper/nonselsec.pdf for more information.

I tried running execstack -c on the the files in question and it worked. This is
not the best solution since execstack does not exist on all platforms and
because the issue should really be fixed in the source.

It picks it up with the shell globbing of *.txt I'll ask around to see
if someone with much better shell globbing knowledge than me can write
something so it does not pick that specific file up.

Otherwise I will explcitly remove it within the perl program.

No, I don't use any VCS. I am registering at alioth.debian.org right

We are going to have tow versions of gnome-pilot? Or just one without

In that case, please send the bug reports to the Bacula tracker directly. I
can't be in the business of figuring out what is a Debian and what is an

Bug#445890: libdspam7-drv-pgsql: incompatible escaping with psql 8.2, generates lots of warnings (HINT: Use the escape string syntax for backslashes, e.g., E'\\'.)

2007-10-08 Thread Peter Gervai
Package: libdspam7-drv-pgsql
Version: 3.6.8-5+b1
Severity: important

The driver generates a warning and a hint for every trained message under
psql8.2 and later:

HINT: Use the escape string syntax for backslashes, e.g., E'\\'.

A longer description is at:
http://mailing-list.nuclearelephant.com/6068.html

Which basically comes down to:
...you'd probably be better served rewriting dspam's quoting routines to use
PQescapeStringConn(), so as to ensure correct quoting is used...

which should be applied to at least to pgsql_drv.c line #1234.

(I see no other obvious occurences of the said problem.)

i'm sorry but your initramfs-tools is not from debian,
we _never_ shipped with an modprobe -Q argument in those boot scripts.
check the following on any debian initramfs-tools release:
egrep -r modprobe /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-premount/

also to diagnose your error i would need the actual error output
and btw yaird is not supported, for initramfs debugging see

i see that is the explanation, so you'd need to reinstall a bunch
of stuff in that case.
apt-get --reinstall install initramfs-tools.

but i'm sorry cross distro changing is not supported,
you are pretty much on your own in that case.
i'd recommed using debian-installer to get a clean root on your
swap or such for a start, see daily build images

OTOH I'm always reluctant to see new things enter non-free when there
is perfectly suitable alternatives. I mean git, hg, bzr, or even the
horrible svn can do what p4 does, or even way better.

in your changelog entry.

As ardour has a code copy of libsndfile which is affected by
this, ardour is vulnerable. I looked at ardours build log
and this library is at least built. If it is not used to
link against please close this bug.

That seems reasonable. Do you think it worthwhile to close and reopen
the database forcibly every so often, to prevent this?

Bug#445887: Regression: seems to need restart to notice change of sound sink

2007-10-08 Thread Reuben Thomas
Package: rhythmbox
Version: 0.11.1-1+b1
Severity: normal

If I change the sound sink for gstreamer, I have to restart rhythmbox
before this is noticed. I change the sink using:

gconftool -t string -s /system/gstreamer/0.10/default/musicaudiosink $sink

(I do this so I can assign the action to a hotkey.)

In 0.10.x, Rhythmbox noticed the change next time it started playing a
track. Rhythmbox 0.11.1 doesn't seem to notice unless I restart it.

Do you have debsums installed? How fast/slow is debsums compared with
rkhunter?

I saw debsums use a debconf question for it. Maybe you can steal the
code. :)

Bug#445888: tuareg-mode: font-lock doesn't like comments or strings

2007-10-08 Thread Ivan Jager
Package: tuareg-mode
Version: 1:1.45.4-3
Severity: minor

Editing a file sometimes leaves lines highlighted as if they were
comments or strings.

The problem seems to be because when opening a
comment, the next two lines are colored as comments, but when closing a
comment, only the next line is updated, so the line after that stays
colored like a comment until it is edited again. Same thing applies to
strings. Closing the buffer and reopening the file gets the right colors
of course.

Here is a small example:
= BEGIN FILE ===
(*remove me and then type me again *)
let x = 1
let y = 2
let z = 3
= END FILE =

Let me know if you can't reproduce it for some reason.

Thanks,
Ivan

Packages for 0.16 are already in work, when mono-addins 0.3 is released,
they can be uploaded to debian/unstable (probably this week).

the problem persists regardless of whether I use "nv" or "nvidia."

Do you have any Xmodmap files or any other local keyboard config that
might be getting in the way?
Not that I'm aware of. This was a clean install when I ran into the problem
Note that I installed the Debian base and then installed everything else by hand
with apt-get/aptitude. This has worked flawlessly on a number of machines I've
set up in the past, which is why I'm so confused.

Does this still happen if you just use startx?
It does happen if I still use startx. I noticed that if I merely kill
xfce-mcs-manager and xfwm4 and start them over again (without touching any
settings stuff), it just starts working properly.

And as a new development, when I start X, xfwm4 either isn't started or dies
immediately. I have no idea whether or not this is related to the original
problem or something different. Nonetheless, as I noted above, once I start it
manually (from a terminal), it works as expected.

Actually, now that I think about it, I believe the xfwm4 not starting properly
happened about when I added the composite stanza to my xorg.conf (this in
relation to debian bug 445323).

Yes, yes, I know, the package has been ready since the day of the
release. I was hopping to do the upload myself instead of asking a
sponsor, but I've been waiting for my debian account to be created for
one month, now...

Guess I will have to find a sponsor again.

Bug#445883: CVE-2007-5226 remote denial of service

2007-10-08 Thread Nico Golde
Package: dircproxy
Version: 1.0.5-3
Severity: grave
Tags: security

Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) id was
published for dircproxy.

CVE-2007-5226[0]:
| irc_server.c in dircproxy 1.2.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to
| cause a denial of service (segmentation fault) via an ACTION command
| without a parameter, which triggers a NULL pointer dereference, as
| demonstrated using a blank /me message from irssi.

If you fix this vulnerability please also include the CVE id
in your changelog entry.

The null pointer dereference itself is not that big kind of
a problem here but since this also means to lose the data
you want to read while you are away I mark this as grave.

For further information:
[0] http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2007-5226

Kind regards
Nico

Hi,

thanks for the link!

Sorry for my mistake. I have tested it again and it works now. I dont know why
my first test does not work. But that does not matter now. I hope to fix this
tomorrow for stable and for unstable.

Thanks.

Bug#441652: gnome-pilot: Only sync once

2007-10-08 Thread Arjan Oosting
Hi Felipe,

gnome-pilot currently has some issues when compiled with HAL support as
you might have noticed:

Op maandag 08-10-2007 om 23:23 uur [tijdzone +0200], schreef Paco Queen:
> Compiled following Arjan's instructions (except for a little errata in

Maybe we should upload a version without HAL support to unstable for the
time being? Do you have the time to prepare
an upload or can/should I do a NMU?

BTW: do you use a version control system for the gnome-pilot Debian
package? If you do, could you provide a link to the VCS? If you don't
have a VCS yet it might be a good idea to set something up (on Alioth
for instance.)

Greetings Arjan

As noted near the top of the report, it's 2.2.4-1 built locally from
source with openssl enabled.

That's not legacy behavior. However, it is rather
obtuse code (esp when seen only via strace) because it
tries hard to be both secure and efficient.

Thanks for the report.
That was fixed upstream just a day or two ago:

Bug#445882: RFA: xxdiff -- a graphical file and directories comparison and merge tool

2007-10-08 Thread Tomas Pospisek
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the xxdiff package.

I'm orphaning the package since I'm not using it (I use vimdiff instead) and
since
I genereally want to shed responsability. The package is in good state IMHO,
it's
usable, nice and pretty mature and doesn't require much attention or
maintenance.
Upstream hasn't been very active for a while as well.

It has smaller issues with font handling though, that would be nice to look into
however seems to run fine on the vast majority of setups.

The package description is:
A powerful tool for viewing the differences between two or three files,
or two directories, and can be used to produce a merged version. The
texts of the two or three files are presented side by side with their
differences highlighted with colors for easy identification. Among its
 features are:
 .
  * can compare two files, three files, or two directories (shallow and
recursive);
  * horizontal diffs highlighting;
  * files can be merged interactively and resulting output visualized and
saved;
  * can unmerge CVS conflicts in automatically merged files and display
themi as two files, to help resolve conflicts;
  * fully customizable with a resource file;
 .
The scripts that accompany xxdiff can be found in the xxdiff-tools
 package.

Perforce is an absolutely *excellent* VCS with the unfortunate
distinction of being proprietary. SubVersion can do most (but not all) of
what it does, albeit 10 times slower. Still, I've migrated all of my stuff
over to subversion, because, well, subversion is free. Perforce is free (as
in "free beer") for open source developers, if you want more than 2 users on
one VCS server, you have to sign a contract, get a license, give the
perforce people full access to your repo, sign a new contract whenever you
server's IP address changes, and renew each year

It all started with Knoppix 5.0. From there I perform the regular apt-get
update / apt-get ugrade cycles. That worked OK until recently.

I'm very much willing to provide more info.
