Why do you need that flexibility? Are the packages causing you any
trouble?

You also have the possibility to remove acpi-support. It's not always
needed. :)

In the next apt upload that's supposed to happen soon IIRC. But there's
also the question of "Tasks", I'm not a sure a Recommends is enough for
the initiall install via the laptop task.

That's just ugly and annoying the user for nothing when we could avoid this
for a few kb.

Bug#435628: xfce4-terminal: crash when close tab with Ctrl+D or "exit" command

2007-10-09 Thread Yves-Alexis Perez
Hi,

sorry for this long time without answer. Do you still have this problem?
Were you doing something special at that time?

I clearly can't reproduce this, so it may be a problem in your setup.
Can you start the first xfce4-terminal from another terminal, reproduce
and see what it the complete error message?

Regards,

Bug#446047: kalign: Please enable bash-completion

2007-10-09 Thread Charles Plessy
Package: kalign
Version: 2.03-1
Severity: wishlist

It would be great to get bash completion for kalign, and for all other
alignment software as well. This improvement could be contributed
upstream as well.

Actually, I am already investigating how to do. But input is welcome !

New upstream version 2.12+ has it taken care of, mentioning that this

Bug#446046: ifupdown: ifup gives different results with each run, often leaving networking broken

2007-10-09 Thread Jason Winzenried
Package: ifupdown
Version: 0.6.8
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***
My box has two network cards, one ethernet card (using sky2) and one
wireless card (ipw2200). The ethernet connection is faster than the
wireless (802.11b) but I keep the wireless around as the router it is
attached to is easier to configure vis-a-vis port forwarding.

The sky2 is eth0, the ipw2200 is eth1. They have both coexisted
succesfully for a long while. As of recently though they do not (since
the problem is intermittent and networking sometimes works, I can't
pinpoint exactly when the change occurred, but was I believe in the
last couple weeks).

Both interfaces are assigned addresses from their respective routers via
DHCP: sky2 gets 10.0.9.*, ipw2200 gets 192.168.0.*

The problem is ifup seems to be getting the interfaces mixes up.

ifconfig currently shows
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:E6:82:E4:E0
  inet addr:192.168.0.107 Bcast:192.168.0.255
Mask:255.255.255.0
...
eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:6F:B0:53:E9
  inet addr:10.0.9.3 Bcast:255.255.255.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

and my connection works, even though eth1 (supposed to be ipw2200) has
an address in the range assigned by the router to which eth0 (sky2) is
physically attached.

iwconfig shows
eth0 no wireless extensions.

eth1 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"dlink"

According to iwconfig, eth1 is the wireless card (as it should be) but
ifconfig shows that eth1 has an address assigned by the wired router.
This _works_ but is highly strange.

Worse is that running ifup -a again (through /etc/init.d/networking
restart, or directly, or by rebooting or whatever) returns completely
random results. Running ifdown -a and then ifup -a right now shows
dhcpcd.sh: interface eth0 has been configured with new IP=10.0.9.4
dhcpcd.sh: interface eth1 has been configured with new IP=10.0.9.3

so now both interfaces have an address in the range assigned by eth0
(sky2)'s router. Doing the same thing again may show both with a
192.168.0.* address. It is completely inconsistent. The practical
effect is a 50/50 chance of no working network connection on any
reboot/networking restart/ifup -a

ifconfig now shows
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:E6:82:E4:E0
  inet addr:10.0.9.4 Bcast:255.255.255.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
...
eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:6F:B0:53:E9
  inet addr:10.0.9.3 Bcast:255.255.255.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

From what I understand modules may not always load in the same
order, and that sky2 might not always be eth0, and ipw2200 might not
always be eth1. But without even rebooting, to run ifup -a and come up
with different results each time is very disconcerting, and certainly never
happened before.

I just can't figure out why ifup gives different results each time
(not something that happened previously) and why both cards, connected
to different routers can appear to have an address assigned by the
same router, or both with an address assigned by the router to which
they are not connected, etc.

If the bug is elsewhere, I'd appreciate any assistance tracking it down.

Okay, thanks for the pointer. I argued my point of view in the upstream
ticket as well, let's see the outcome. I have no problem adding a few
lines in README.Debian to document this special case.

But your method to run tests will probably test the code in the source
package and not in the binary package (not verified though).

This is a bashism (and thus a policy violation):

$ grep -nH == /etc/init.d/cyphesis-cpp
/etc/init.d/cyphesis-cpp:29:if test "$?" == "0" ;

It can easily be fixed by changing == to =.

Bug#419475: linux-image-2.6.18-4-k7: erroneous behaviour of Realtek 8139, network practically unusable

2007-10-09 Thread Chris Purves
I am having the same problem. 2.6.18 kernel loads 3com card, but not realtek.
Attached are dmesg for working 2.6.8 kernel and non-working 2.6.18.

Bug#445711: ppp: IPCP sometimes results in bogus DNS address

2007-10-09 Thread Marcus Better
The changed behaviour after five ConfReq attempts is explained by #445951. The
reason we get so many rejects seems to be that pppd is ignoring the ms-wins
options that the other side wants. I don't know what the specs say about
that.

Bug#446043: Ignores gtk-toolbar-style = GTK_TOOLBAR_BOTH_HORIZ?

2007-10-09 Thread Trent W. Buck
Package: gpass
Version: 0.5.0-2
Severity: minor

In my .gtkrc-2.0, I have

gtk-toolbar-style = GTK_TOOLBAR_BOTH_HORIZ

which causes GTK2 toolbars to place toolbar button labels to the right
of the icons, rather than below the icons (the default). gpass seems
to ignore this setting.

Bug#446039: more information

2007-10-09 Thread Bert Riding
Further experimentation using non-debianised versions of both the kernel
and module source and builds seems to indicate that this problem is
caused by an interaction between the 2.6.23 source and the madwifi
source, and is not a problem with the debian madwifi-source package
itself.

Bug#446042: git-buildpackage: make output_dir a parameter

2007-10-09 Thread Yaroslav Halchenko
Package: git-buildpackage
Version: 0.4.0
Severity: wishlist

I am sorry if my request smells with svn-buildpackage too much.
Could you please make output_dir a parameter (cmdline + config) instead
of hardcoded

def main(argv):
output_dir = '..'

also, it would be terriffic if there were descrimination between
output_dir and tarball_dir (again stinks with svn-buildpackage) -- it
comes handy quite often.

now, top directory where I am trying to collect all my gitized packages
gets filled up with *tar *dev *dsc *changes quite fast. So my request is
pretty much to let me stock them elsewhere (and I do not consider
symlinks an appropriate escape away from .. issue ;-)).

please try again with the connectortable option and monitor changes I
suggested. your log shows that you are using the bios tables rather

Bug#446037: epiphany-browser: Epiphany-webkit command runs epiphany-gecko when another instance of e-g is open, and vice versa

2007-10-09 Thread Ben Bromley
Package: epiphany-browser
Version: 2.20.0-3
Severity: normal

When I run "epiphany-webkit" from the command line with an instance of
epiphany-gecko open already, another epiphany-gecko instance is opened.
This is confirmed by the "About" page, which still says that its powered
by gecko-1.8. If I have an epiphany-webkit instance open first, and
then run "epiphany-gecko" from the command line, another epiphany-webkit
instance starts.

this might be a gtk bug/regression for which I have developed a
patch/hack; it is available in the ubuntu bug:

  https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/144326

Direct link to patch:

  http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9669984/lp144326_gtk_fixes.patch

Ubuntu Changelog:
gtk+2.0 (2.12.0-1ubuntu3) gutsy; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/071_fix_gdk_window_null_crasher.patch:

due
due to gdk_window NULL values (LP: #144326)

 -- Sebastien Bacher <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Fri, 05 Oct 2007 14:10:06 +0200

If you have any questions or suggestions on how to improve the patch,
let me know.

If the patch doesn't help for this particular issue, please reassign
back. However, the patch above should be needed to fix print preview
crashes in iceweasel.

Have fun and thanks,

Bug#446036: exim4: please compile against openssl instead of gnutls

2007-10-09 Thread Stephen Gran
Package: exim4
Version: 4.63-17
Severity: normal

Hello,

The subject pretty much says it all. I see that there are a half dozen
TLS related bugs open in the BTS about odd failures that will most likely
disappear if you use the more robust implementation. Additionally,
openssl uses less system entropy for the same cryptographic strength
(there go your bugs about the gnutls random seed) and most importantly
for me, openssl actually supports full certificate chain lookups, so
you can be guaranteed that this cert was signed was signed by that ca.
gnutls does not, to the best of my knowledge.

I fully understand the desire to assist gnutls, but until it provides a
comparable feature set at a comparable performance level, I think that
the default MTA in Debian could do slightly better. It's not as if
there's a licensing issue - there is an explicit excemption for openssl.

Ordinarily I would make a 'please do such and such in the packaging'
bug severity: wishlist, but given how many other open bugs appear to be
directly related to this choice, and how far gnutls is from providing some
fairly crucial features, I think that wishlist is too low a priority.
That being said, I am not interested in BTS ping pong and won't argue
if you decide to downgrade the bug.

Thanks,

Bug#446035: zim: make trayicon transparent

2007-10-09 Thread Nicolas Évrard
Package: zim
Version: 0.20-1
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

Zim's trayicon background is not transparent and thus looks ugly when used
in a transparent panel. I think that changing the icon's background
should make everything look good.

Thank you.

Bug#446033: aiccu configure script takes a long time

2007-10-09 Thread Ansgar Burchardt
Package: aiccu
Version: 20070115-5
Severity: normal

The aiccu configure script starts `/usr/sbin/aiccu brokers' which times
out after more than one minute with the following error message:
`Warning: Couldn't find global Tunnel Brokers List, please check your
DNS settings and read the FAQ.'

The only FAQ item related to this seems to be a broken DNS server that
cannot fallback to TCP (I'm behind a cheap DSL router so this might be
true).

Also, the configure script runs `aiccu brokers' several times even when
it fails: One time to pipe the result through sort, and one more time
to pipe it through grep. This way updating aiccu makes me wait for
several minutes.

Hi,
The following was released on:
http://secunia.com/advisories/27117/

be

|
| The vulnerabilities are caused due to boundary errors in the vorbis input

|
| Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code.

Is there a reason to still keep kbd around? Is there something in
kbd that console-tools doesn't do?

For whatever reason DDC tends to be unreliable on XPRESS chips.I
think it may be a clock issue. Without DDC, the server is not able to
find any modes for the output. you'll have to add a monitor section
and link it with the output in question. see this page for more:
http://www.intellinuxgraphics.org/dualhead.html
then add modelines for your monitor
something like:

Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI Technologies Inc RS480 [Radeon Xpress 200G Series]"
Driver "radeon"
Option "DRI" "false"
BusID "PCI:1:5:0"
#Option "Monitor-LVDS" "Generic Monitor"
Option "ConnectorTable" "5,2,1,4,5,1,2,2"
Option "monitor-DVI-0" "Generic Monitor"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Generic Monitor"
Option "DPMS"
Option "Enable" "TRUE"
HorizSync 30-100
VertRefresh 50-61
Modeline "1280x1024" 109.00 1280 1368 1496 1712 1024 1027 1034 1063

After every update aiccu asks for the tunnel broker again although it is
already configured (and working just fine).

It should be enough to ask for this information once.

No, it is a Dell 6400 from 2007, bought new a month or so before
debconf. Not all laptops with ACPI have nVidia or ATI graphics cards.

IIRC, recommends are installed automatically these days, even with
apt-get.

Options for telling the user include big scary warnings from the init
script or syslog messages or some kind of dbus notification.

This smells like a compiler regression in g++-4.2 or even a buggy
buildd ... 2.0.0.4.dfsg1-2 built successfully with g++-4.2 and from
what i see there hasn't been a single change for the s390 code since
then.

Reassigning accordingly ...

(if there is evidence that icedove can help to workaround and someone
has a patch, feel free to assign back or clone or something.)

Bug#446030: RFA: kbd -- Linux console font and keytable utilities

2007-10-09 Thread Anton Zinoviev
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

[Please add me to your CC list.]

I request an adopter for the "kbd" package.

Actually it was never my intention to maintain "kbd", but its
maintainer was the group "Console utilities maintainers" and it seems
currently I am the only member of this group... :)

Here are the reasons why I am unable to maintain "kbd" properly and
why a new maintainer is wanted:

  1. I have absolutely no experience in compiling utilities like the
utilities in "kbd". I am not sure I will be able to fix
any compilation errors if such errors occur.

  2. While I have some experience in the script part of the package, I
can not effectively watch these scripts because their effect is
canceled by the scripts in the package console-setup (which I
 maintain).

  3. (This is not a kbd-related problem.) Recently I am unable to
process the email messages I receive as promptly, as a Debian
 maintainer should do.

I think the package is currently in a more or less clean state. I
haven't fixed #443645 and #443606 because I think the new maintainer
should decide what should be done (these bugs are easy to fix but they
allow two alternative solutions). There are patches in BTS about
#190385, #190386 and may be #190387 but I haven't tried to fix things
I don't understand. As of #399531, in BTS there is a suggestion how
to fix. And the only bug without a solution in BTS is #437248.

Given pkgreport.cgi:191
if (exists $param{pkg}) {
 $param{package} = $param{pkg};
 delete $param{pkg};
 }

I guess $param{pkg} should not be read, but $param{package}

Bug#446029: kmilo: volume does not work when there are several sound cards (e.g. USB headset inserted)

2007-10-09 Thread Felipe Massia Pereira
Package: kmilo
Version: 4:3.5.7-3+b1
Severity: normal

Steps to reproduce:
1. Insert a second sound-card (usb headset)
2. Use volume keys or even the volume keys in the headset

The volume control is only for sound card 0.

I'd like to make USB headset default sound card when it's inserted. Don't
know if it's possible (maybe alias snd-card-1 to onboard and alias
snd-card-0 snd-usb-audio in /etc/modprobe.d).

Anyway, Kmilo volume could change volume for all sound cards in the system.

Are shell (or whatever) patterns allowed in ALLOWDEVFILE ?

If not, Tim won’t be able to whitelist /dev/shm/pulse-shm-1633006343,
since this file’s name changes everytime pulseaudio is restarted.

It may then be a bit premature to close this bug.

Bug#443606: Improvements for kbd?

Yes, of course. Some time ago the pkg-kbd group had a few members.
While it was never my intention to maintain kbd, I had to when the
number of the members of this group reduced to me. :)

I think this package will have soon a new maintainer and thats why I
haven't reacted yet on these bugs.

> Recently, I filed two bug-reports concerning kbd, namely #443645 and
> #443606. For the first one, I made a small solution to the problem,
> which I could extend further, if this wanted. Do you think it is
> worth continuing with it or should I just skip it? :)

Regarding #443645, I think that by default unicode_start should not
change the font at all. However I think it is the rignt of the new
maintainer to make the decision about this.

Regarding #443606, the reason this problem happens is the following
fragment in /etc/init.d/console-screen.kbd.sh:

if [ "$RUNLEVEL" = S ]; then
LIST_CONSOLES=0
elif [ -z "$LIST_CONSOLES" ]; then
# Wait for getty to provide TTYs
sleep 3
LIST_CONSOLES=`sed -e '/^ *#/d' /etc/inittab | grep 'tty[0-9]*$' | awk -
F: '{printf "%s ", $1}'`
fi

I have no idea why if RUNLEVEL is S (and it is S when the script is
invoked), then only the first console is configured. I also don't
know the purpose of this "sleep 3" command. In the scripts of
console-setup there is no such "sleep" and I am unaware of any problem
caused by this (the command "unicode_start >ttydevice" works even if
ttydevice is not opened).

Thanks for testing.

So we can consider this bug to be a clone of Debian bug #358929, which
has been fixed (by applying this very same patch) in cdcat 1.01b-2,
now available in Debian testing.

Bug#445906: boinc-client: SSL fails with ca-bundle.crt linked to ca-certificates

Upstream's ca-bundle.crt comes from the cURL sources. It is the same file that
curl_7.17.0.orig.tar.gz contains as curl-7.17.0/lib/ca-bundle.crt, however it
is not shipped in any cURL .deb package.

WCG's issuer certificate has the common name "Entrust.net Secure Server
Certification Authority" and both files, curl-7.17.0/lib/ca-bundle.crt
and /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt, contain this certificate bas64
encoded. cURL's ca-bundle.crt additionally contains this certificate in clear
text. Could this be the problem? I need to investigate further.

Grüße,
Frank

Bug#446026: pulseaudio: Please apply module-tunnel fix from PulseAudio ticket #49

2007-10-09 Thread Nikita V. Youshchenko
Package: pulseaudio
Version: 0.9.6-2
Severity: normal

Please apply patch from http://pulseaudio.org/ticket/49

Without that patch, chain of two pulseaudio servers (one on application
server where user session runs, other on terminal from where user
accesses the session) too often stop working.

I've tested the patch with debian pulseaudio 0.9.6-2 package, and it
really fixes the problem.

Bug#446021: Acknowledgement (gnumeric: The count() function returns the wrong result.)

2007-10-09 Thread Kingsley G. Morse Jr.
It now seems to me that the following works

=count(indirect("a1:"&address(1,4)))

and I find myself wondering whether

1.) my original bug report used the wrong syntax
and

2.) somehow gnumeric failed to

a.) catch it or

b.) warn about it.

Thanks,
Kingsley

Hello,
I've written a patch to include an additional CLI switch (-0 or
--add2list) to include the newly created patch (or edited but still
missing from 00list) in debian/patches/00list.

Hope you can include this in dpatch (and obciously any changes is
welcome).

Regards,
Sandro

Bug#446024: mailsync: undocumented server config item; wrong? behaviour

2007-10-09 Thread Paolo
Package: mailsync
Version: 5.2.2-1
Severity: minor

hi,

we've some example lines in doc/examples/mailsync but no clue about how/if
such syntax/option can be combined - eg.:

 - is ssl/norsh valid/pointless?
 - imap/norsh implies imap/rsh is default? how to tell which rsh to use?
 - why rsh (as default?) in 1st place

Also, in 5.2.1-2 this server spec

  {localhost/user=uname/imap/novalidate-cert}

works but sounds weird: 'novalidate-cert' seems pointless while talking to
plain imap; yet without it mailsync bails out with:

Error: Certificate failure for localhost: self signed certificate: ...

5.2.2-1 is even more funny, it won't work either way - with server spec above
it bails out with:

Error: TLS/SSL failure for localhost: SSL negotiation failed

5.2.2-1 doesn't like /imap/ at all, wants /ssl/.

So, I think that some of the c-client doc should come with mailsync as well,
since it's needed to setup 'stores' (without being fluent in imap).
I'd suggest to include into the example/mailsync the following snippet from

#--[/usr/share/doc/libc-client2002edebian/naming.txt]--
#...
#III. Remote names
#
#All names which start with "{" are remote names, and are in the form

# "/norsh" do not use rsh or ssh to establish a preauthenticated

# "/ssl" use the Secure Socket Layer to encrypt the session
# "/validate-cert" validate certificates from TLS/SSL server (this is the
#default behavior)
# "/novalidate-cert" do not validate certificates from TLS/SSL server,
#needed if server uses self-signed certificates
# "/tls" force use of start-TLS to encrypt the session, and

# "/notls" do not do start-TLS to encrypt the session, even

OMG! That's why it's still unavailable in Debian =\ I didn't knew
about PHP Licence incompatibility with GPL before.

So what do you guys think about wrapper package, which allows installing
eaccelerator like
$ make-eaccelerator-package
?

As I understand all this legal issues it will be ok.

Is this still relevant or important? The omniorb4 package seems to
replace omkdepend with `gcc -M -MD -MG'. I have no idea why as there
is no mention of it in the changelog, but it seems to work fine.

Any input?

Bug#446021: gnumeric: The count() function returns the wrong result.

2007-10-09 Thread Kingsley G. Morse Jr.
Package: gnumeric
Version: 1.7.12-1
Severity: normal

Thanks for maintaining gnumeric.

I find it very useful.

I happened to notice what appears to be a bug in
the count() function. Here's how to duplicate the
bug.

 Put 1 in A1
 Put 2 in B1
 Put =address(1,2) in A3
 Put =count(A1:$B$1) in A4
 Put =count(A1:address(1,2)) in A5

A5 returns 0, but as you can see from cell A4, it
should return 2.

I wouldn't be surprised in countif() and sum()
have similar bugs.

Thanks,
Kingsley

I know; I specifically told top and ps to report threads, and they
still claim that pidgin only has one.

Bug#442912: MH filenames

2007-10-09 Thread Celejar
Hi Hiro and list,

The developer / maintainer of the Mail::Box::MH Perl module seems to
assume that (non-empty) MH folders always contain a message with the
filename '1' [0]. Sylpheed clearly doesn't follow that convention.
Does anyone have any information about the MH specification?

rest of the bug report for context)

Can you please elaborate here?

londonlaw installs two user issued commands under /usr/games:
/usr/games/london-client and .../london-server. Both are python scripts
with a '#!/bin/env python'-shebang. Do you propose here to replace these
two upstream supplied scripts by shell constructs which do nothing else
than figuring out the default python version?

After having spoken to him in person at debconf this year, I can assure
you that this is not the case.

I tried it and I can not see any advantage. After all the text on the
picture “The Journey Begins” came up, pinugs sucks nearly all cpu power.
I don't accept this. Nothing happens and the cpu gets burned.

Bye, Jörg.

This is due to a change in dialog in version 20070227:

+ remove a redundant chunk from checklist.c which reported status a
second time if the help-button was pressed but no item-help option
was in effect (Andre C Barros).

I'm talking with the author to readd this code.

The problem is, that this code told us with was the current item under
the cursor when the help button was pressed. Without this information we
can't call dpkg -s (or now orphaner call it wrong) which leads to the
message seen above.

Bye, Jörg.

That's the code we are talking about:

Bug#432032: libpango1.0-0: Japanese characters rendered invisible

The problem is that I cannot reproduce it with my font and pango-view either
anymore. However, the bug’s still visible in both Thunar and Exaile.

Also something strange: the text "最新动漫游戏音乐排行榜" is rendered as " 动
戏 乐 " in Thunar. A notable fact about this is that also only those three
characters are hinted in this Icedove mail window (and in pango-view), the other
ones are not. So it must be something about from which fonts the missing
characters are gathered to display the text. Obviously two (or more) different
fonts. The one which’s characters are not displayed seems to cause the trouble.
A strace on pango-view tells me that the fonts "KochiGothic Regular" and "simhei
0" are invoked.

Is there some way to get to know which parts of a text where rendered by using
characters from which font?

> Where can I get your font?

You’ll have to search the web, that’s how I got it. I can also send it to you if
you want to do some testing.

Regards, Mathias

Bug#388160: acpi-support: please support ibm docking/undocking

2007-10-09 Thread Bart Samwel
Hi there,

I've picked up the maintainership of acpi-support a while ago, and I'm
willing to look into implementing this (if only to get rid of the bug
report thats muddying my view of the remaining real bugs ;-) ).

Could you please provide me with, for docking and undocking:
1. the output of the command "acpi_listen" (which should be run while
(un)docking)
2. what's logged in /var/log/syslog

This will help me figure out what needs to be done.

Cheers,
Bart

Bug#425342: acpi-support: Doesn't work with diskless (nfsroot) computers

2007-10-09 Thread Bart Samwel
Hi Greg,

Unfortunately I don't have a diskless computer, so could you perhaps tell
me what's not working about it? It never comes up again because of the
missing network? I guess that might be a problem. I wonder if the vanilla
kernel even supports this, I'd have to check.

Cheers,
Bart
