Bug#448727: [Debian-in-workers] Bug#448727: Bug#448727: add new fonts released by ELCOT to ttf-tamil-fonts

And that is not remotely BSDish; BSD license allows modifications. But you better discuss this on debian-legal; I simply have no energy to discuss this there. My prediction is that this is not DFSG free. At first glance, I would say that the quoted license is not exactly a license but more a statement of intentions. From the wording of ELCOT I would say that their *intent* is probably to make the fonts available as widely as possible, without restrictions. So, either a BSD-like, a GPL-like or the Open Font License would qualify. I think it would be more productive to suggest ELCOT people to choose an existing license. Bug#448816: x-ttcidfont-conf: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review
Package: x-ttcidfont-conf Version: N/A Severity: normal Tags: patch Dear Debian maintainer, On Sunday, October 14, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review process concerning debconf templates for x-ttcidfont-conf. The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates, and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report. Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any objections, let me know in the next 3 days. Please try to avoid uploading x-ttcidfont-conf with these changes right now. The second phase of this process will begin on Sunday, November 04, 2007, when I will coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates. The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will receive an updated PO file for their language. Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to the debian-i18n mailing list. Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with. The call for translation updates and new translations will run until about Sunday, November 25, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of course, other changes are safe. Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact that I simultaneously work on many packages. Around DAY25, I will contact you again and will send a final patch summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates, updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations). Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash --- x-ttcidfont-conf.old/debian/templates 2007-10-06 19:14:48.506351309 +0200 +++ x-ttcidfont-conf/debian/templates 2007-11-01 08:06:44.527340083 +0100 @@ -1,38 +1,32 @@ +# These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english +# team +# +# If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask +# [EMAIL PROTECTED] for advice. +# +# Even minor modifications require translation updates and such +# changes should be coordinated with translators and reviewers. + Template: x-ttcidfont-conf/tt_backend Type: select Choices: freetype, xtt Default: freetype _Description: Backend to use for TrueType handling on X: - XFree86 4.x has two backends to handle TrueType fonts, FreeType and X-TT. - FreeType (a simple backend) is standard, while X-TT is alternative and - has a mechanism of decorating TrueType fonts that can create bold and - oblique faces from a single font. - . - If unsure, choose FreeType. - -Template: x-ttcidfont-conf/font_path_change2 -Type: note -_Description: FontPath of TrueType and CID managed by defoma is changed - TrueType and CID font paths which defoma manages have changed - again. Bug#427000: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the ca-certificates package
Dear maintainer of ca-certificates and Debian translators, On Thursday, October 11, 2007 I sent a notice to the maintainer of the ca-certificates Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS (bug #427000). I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other pending translations. The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in two weeks, so I will proceed with the NMU. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: ca cs da de es eu fr gl it ja nl pt pt_BR ru sv vi Among these, the following translations are incomplete: ca da gl pt_BR If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get a copy of this announcement BCCd to you. Please review the translation. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them directly to me so I can incorporate them into the package being built. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Sunday, November 11, 2007. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Bug#448325: marked as done (Incorrect installation order on NSLU2 with main-menu_1.22)
* Gordon Farquharson [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2007-10-31 23:33]: Thanks for resolving this bug, Joey. Not that it matters much anymore, but in my testing, I had used a locally built copy of main-menu_1.22 for arm when I built the installer. The flash-kernel-installer version was 1.4. Well, I used main-menu 1.21. I'm pretty sure the wrong menu number of flash-kernel-installer confused main-menu and fixing that resolved the problem. I suppose this would be worth a bug on main-menu assuming someone can verify it. That's definitely low-priority though. -- Martin Michlmayr http://www.cyrius.com/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#448832: txt2tags: Invalid blockquote with xhtml output
Package: txt2tags Version: 2.3-1 Severity: normal Tags: patch Hi, txt2tags fails to produce valid xhtml output in blockquote mode: $ txt2tags -t xhtml -H -i - -o - RET TABinvalid quotation CTRL-D blockquote invalid quotation /blockquote should be: blockquotep quotation /p/blockquote Please note that this is *unrelated* with the known problem described at the begining of /usr/bin/txt2tags: #XXX Paragraph separation not valid inside Quote # Quote will not have p/p inside, instead will close and open # again the blockquote. This really sux in CSS, when defining a # diferent background color. Still don't know how to fix it. Here is a fix for the problem I'm describing (NOT fixing the paragraph separation bug): /usr/bin/txt2tags, line 634 (and following) becomes: 'img' : 'img~A~ src=\a border=0 alt=/', 'blockQuoteOpen' : 'blockquotep' , 'blockQuoteClose' : '/p/blockquote' }, Once this patch has been applied: $ txt2tags -t xhtml -H -i - -o - RET TABvalid quotation CTRL-D blockquotep valid quotation /p/blockquote One could fix it a few lines above instead, in the html part (I don't know if BLOCKQUOTE without P is valid html). It's a very annoying bug (although quite easy to fix) because txt2tags produces otherwise nice valid xhtml (AFAICT). Bug#448800: [Pkg-bluetooth-maintainers] Bug#448800: bluez-utils: pand fails to register service
On Thu, Nov 01, 2007 at 02:25:00AM +0100, Alain Kalker wrote: Package: bluez-utils Version: 3.13-1 Severity: normal When executing sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart, pand fails to register a service with the SDP server. Stopping bluetooth and then restarting it after a reasonable pause does work. Enabling debug output and examining /var/log/syslog shows that pand tries to register the service before hcid has had the chance to start the SDP server, making this a nice example of a race condition. I don't know what the best fix for this would be. In my opinion, hcid should not daemonize before the SDP server is up. Adding a 'sleep 2' between stopping and restarting the daemons would be a quick fix, but reliability of this will depend too much on system load and performance. this is indeed racy, the newer version of bluez-utils ought to fix that by including all the services in the main executable. filippo -- Filippo Giunchedi - http://esaurito.net PGP key: 0x6B79D401 random quote follows: Date: Tuesday, 2002/10/22 - 08:09 dselect proves the existence of Satan. Bug#446324: lighttpd: stderr not closed
Michal Čihař wrote: My guess is that this code is opening fd 3 (stdout is fd 1, stderr is fd 2) and not closing it. Then Lighttpd inherits fd 3 and doesn't close it either. I've no idea who is supposed to close it though. Well I think lighttpd should close all open fds, Why? Doesn't POSIX or another standard indicate who should close them? Not leaking them in the first place would be even more secure I think. it's just good for security reasons anyway and I think I've seen this in some daemon (maybe ssh, I'm not sure). That's true, but how does the daemon know which fds are open and which are not and which ones should be closed? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#448837: libgps-dev: #include gps.h no longer work as expected
Package: libgps-dev Version: 2.34.dfsg-3 With gpsd version 2.33-4, the gps.h header file was self-contained and worked out of the box. This is no longer the case: % cat x.c #include gps.h % gcc -c x.c In file included from x.c:1: /usr/include/gps.h:105: error: expected '=', ',', ';', 'asm' or '__attribute__' before 'isgps30bits_t' /usr/include/gps.h:170: error: 'isgps30bits_t' undeclared here (not in a function) /usr/include/gps.h:172: error: expected specifier-qualifier-list before 'isgps30bits_t' % I believe this is a bug with the gps.h header file. Headers in /usr/include/ should work directly. Bernd Zeimetz told me on IRC that the workaround for this problem is to add #include gpsd_config.h in front of #include gps.h, and this work. But I believe this is changing the API for the gpsd library, and that the correct fix is to change the gps.h header to work out of the box, either by making it include gpsd_config.h or by generating it when the package is build to include the required defines. We may miss another backport from the trunk. Did someone check already ? Probably not; this discussion doesn't seem to be cc:ed to debian-mips? Plain upstream gcc head appears to work, gcc-snapshot fails to build with ICE. I hope to have time for it mid of next week. Is there any news on this? gcc-snapshot is fixed (it built on mips), and gcc-4.2 is the default compiler (although it still has problems: #441633). Could someone check and see if xulrunner now builds with gcc-4.2 or gcc-snapshot and report back? FWIW, iceape failed to build with gcc-4.2 with the same exact error that xulrunner had, so xulrunner is likely to fail too. Note that as is, xulrunner can't build with gcc-4.2 due to other visibility problems. It seems iceape and iceweasel finally built on mips. I'll give a shot with xulrunner. A testbuild succeeded for me, I missed to update the bug with that information. Thiemo -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#447526: similar problem
I've had similar symptoms while running iceweasel. We all know firefox/iceweasl has leaks, but in the past only it's process grew in memory footprint. For the past few weeks, I leave it open overnight on a site that auto-refreshes, both the iceweasl and X processes grow in memory use. Within 12 hours, all the 1G of RAM on my laptop will be used up. A good site that triggers this behaviour is http://www.theage.com.au, my local newspapers page. There's a fair few flash objects on there, and in these situations I usually blame that, but I have no proof. -- James Healy jimmy-at-deefa-dot-com Thu, 01 Nov 2007 21:58:06 +1100 signature.asc Description: Digital signature

So, could it be possible to reassign this bug to the proper package (gcc ? binutils ?) and mark it fixed for the appropriate version ? Bug#448808: svn-buildpackage: svn-inject fails when /tmp is mounted noexec
On 01/11/2007, Francois Marier [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Package: svn-buildpackage Version: 0.6.21 Severity: normal Thanks for the report. I know that mounting /tmp as noexec (for a bit of extra security) is not officially supported by Debian, but it is still common and it should be easy to fix. I see two ways to go about it: 1- Use mktemp to create a temp directory inside the current directory (where the package is currently being built, guaranteed to be executable). I'd rather have that directory in the build area instead, but since svn-inject doesn't use a build area, this is tricky. Also, if the inject is made without a checkout after the inject (-c 0) from a directory where write permissions don't exist, making the temporary directories in the current directory would lead to errors. Still, I am not sure which of the two scenarios is more exotic, but more importantly, which leads to the least surprise. I suspect that your scenario produce the least surprise since you have to explicitly disable noexec on /tmp, so you'd suspect that some things might go awry because of that. 2- Add a configuration option to specify the temp directory to use. I am really reluctant to add yet another option to all the svn-buildpackage utilities just for this issue. I would rather document this and ask people to redefine (for svn-inject) their TMPDIR instead. Maybe use an alias for svn-inject is a better idea. After all, this is what this variable is for. Does this work as expected? alias svn-inject=TMPDIR=. svn-inject What about a third solution? In the initialisation stage of svn-inject test if is possible to create and execute a temporary file with plain mktemp; if is possible, excellent, if not, redefine internally TMPDIR='.' (while dropping a message about the change) and hope for the best later in the run. Package: w3m-img Version: 0.5.1-5.1+b1 Severity: normal I do most of my work from within a persistent Screen session, and I regularly kill off urxvt and Xorg. This means that after the first couple of days, WINDOWID will be set (within the screen session) to a window that no longer exists. Normally this does not bother me; w3m-img simply stops working (images aren't displayed inline). Today, it appeared to cause a segfault. I invoked w3m thusly: w3m http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/screen-users It segfaulted -- not immediately, but a second or so after displaying the text. This is consistent with the time it would take w3m to fetch the inline image(s). WINDOWID was set to 8388612. Re-running the above command caused w3m to segfault every time, after the aforementioned short delay. w3m managed to print 4/4 images loaded Making the terminal smaller (fewer COLUMNS and ROWS), I got 3/3 images loaded instead. Making the terminal larger, w3m printed HTTP/1.1 200 OK, and the entire screen was cleared, printing Aborted in the top left and the shell prompt on the next line. Suspecting w3m-img was at fault, I tried env -u WINDOWID w3m http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/screen-users This did not result in a segfault. Furthermore, it displayed the images inline onscreen! Attached are the output of `env' and `xprop' (after clicking on the urxvt window). I'm not sure WHY it's segfaulting; hopefully I've provided enough information. I am running a custom compilation of urxvt from CVS: $ urxvt -h rxvt-unicode (urxvt) v8.3 - released: 2007-08-01 options: xft,styles,combining,blink,encodings=eu+vn+jp+jp-ext+kr+zh+zh-ext,frills,selectionscrolling,wheel,cursorBlink,pointerBlank,scrollbars=NONE Usage: urxvt [-help] [--help] [-display string] [-tn string] [-geometry geometry] [-C] [-iconic] [-/+rv] [-/+ls] [-/+j] [-/+ss] [-/+ptab] [-/+si] [-/+sk] [-/+sw] [-/+ut] [-/+vb] [-/+tcw] [-/+insecure] [-/+uc] [-/+bc] [-/+pb] [-bg color] [-fg color] [-hc color] [-cr color] [-pr color] [-pr2 color] [-bd color] [-fn fontname] [-fb fontname] [-fi fontname] [-fbi fontname] [-/+is] [-name string] [-title string] [-n string] [-sl number] [-embed windowid] [-depth number] [-/+override-redirect] [-pty-fd fileno] [-/+hold] [-w number] [-b number] [-/+bl] [-/+sbg] [-lsp number] [-mod modifier] [-/+ssc] [-/+ssr] [-xrm string] [-e command arg ...] $ ls -hl `type -p urxvt` -rwxr-xr-x 1 twb users 2.5M 2007-10-06 01:42 /home/twb/.bin-x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu/urxvt -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-3-amd64 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_AU.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_AU.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages w3m-img depends on: ii libc6 2.6.1-6 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgc1c21:6.8-1.1conservative garbage collector for ii libgdk-pixbuf2 0.22.0-11The GdkPixBuf image library, gtk+ ii libglib1.2ldbl 1.2.10-19The GLib library of C routines ii libx11-62:1.0.3-7X11 client-side library ii w3m 0.5.1-5.1+b1 WWW browsable pager with excellent w3m-img recommends no packages. -- no debconf information env.txt Description: Binary data WM_STATE(WM_STATE): window state: Normal icon window: 0x0 _NET_WM_PID(CARDINAL) = 18481 WM_PROTOCOLS(ATOM): protocols WM_DELETE_WINDOW, _NET_WM_PING WM_LOCALE_NAME(STRING) = en_AU.utf8 WM_CLASS(STRING) = urxvt, URxvt WM_HINTS(WM_HINTS): Client accepts input or input focus: True Initial state is Normal State. window id # of group leader: 0x64 WM_NORMAL_HINTS(WM_SIZE_HINTS): program specified minimum size: 6 by 12 program specified resize increment: 6 by 12 program specified base size: 0 by 0 window gravity: NorthWest WM_CLIENT_MACHINE(STRING) = baal WM_COMMAND(STRING) = { urxvt } _NET_WM_ICON_NAME(UTF8_STRING) = 0x73, 0x63, 0x72, 0x65, 0x65, 0x6e WM_ICON_NAME(STRING) = screen _NET_WM_NAME(UTF8_STRING) = WM_NAME(STRING) = xwininfo: Please select the window about which you would like information by clicking the mouse in that window. xwininfo: Window id: 0x64 (has no name) Absolute upper-left X: 0 Absolute upper-left Y: 0 Relative upper-left X: 0 Relative upper-left Y: 0 Width: 1596 Height: 1200 Depth: 24 Visual Class: TrueColor Border width: 0 Class: InputOutput Colormap: 0x20 (installed) Bit Gravity State: ForgetGravity Window Gravity State: NorthWestGravity Backing Store State: NotUseful Save Under State: no Map State: IsViewable Override Redirect State: no Corners: +0+0 -4+0 -4-0 +0-0 -geometry 266x100+0+0

Bug#448800: [Pkg-bluetooth-maintainers] Bug#448800: bluez-utils: pand fails to register service
On 01/11/2007, Alain Kalker [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Package: bluez-utils Version: 3.13-1 Severity: normal When executing sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart, pand fails to register a service with the SDP server. (Discaimer: I am putting in just ideas, unfortunately I don't have the time to turn them into actions.) What about adding a status function to the script and wait until the SDP server is up or until a timeout occurs (of course, before testing if the SDP server is up there should be a check to see if the SDP server is enabled, if such a scenario is possible). -- Regards, EddyP = Imagination is more important than knowledge A.Einstein -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#421792: /var/lib/dpkg/info/*.md5sums inherits from package
Sven Joachim writes (Re: Bug#421792: /var/lib/dpkg/info/*.md5sums inherits from package): Ian Jackson [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: These files are generated during package building as DEBIAN/md5sums, and that file's permissions and ownership are inherited by the installed file. (I have just tested this with a pre-1.14.8 dpkg just to be sure.) Are you sure? For the binutils package this does not seem to be the case; the version in my apt cache does not have an md5sums file. Probably the submitter's binutils.md5sums file was created by debsums. I don't use debsums but I was under the impression that it just made checks against md5sums generated from or included in .debs. That's what the package Description says anyway. I see from debsums's bugs that you're right. Yes, because dpkg was not even involved in creating the file; the bug should get reassigned to the debsums package (arguing that the debsums script should assure that the files it creates are world-readable) Benoit: do you have debsums installed ? or closed as a local misconfiguration (a umask of 077 for root is certainly not TRT). I think that it's a configuration which ought not to break dpkg. Ian. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#420846: please test 0.6.22
Hello Andreas, The 0.6.22 version has been released to experimental (due to the big set of changes introduced). That version no longer writes by default .svn/deb-layout at every run. The writing happens only if this is explicitly requested via the --svn-savecfg option. Since calling svn-bp with --svn-tag and --svn-savecfg doesn't seem to make sense (you either want to tag, or you want to create a skeleton local override), I would like to close this bug. Would you please test svn-buildpackage 0.6.22[*] and check if this bug appears in any other form when tagging (without --svn-savecfg)? Thanks in advance. Bug#417407: installing to a box with suspended system
On 31/10/2007, Frans Pop [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On Wednesday 31 October 2007, Michal Suchanek wrote: I tried to use the installer on a box which had a Linux system suspended on one disk. As I noticed that os-prober mounts the partitions I did not try to resume. According to the software suspend documentation this could cause serious data loss, especially since the filesystem loses consistency while *mounted*. I also think that trying to do an installation on a system that has an OS in suspended state is not very smart. _Any_ installation of an OS is inherently risky as you can never be sure exactly what changes it may make on disk. Compounding that risk by having operating systems suspended is something you should know to avoid as a user. We could add a warning about that in the installation guide, but I don't think there is much more that we can do than that. I would personally qualify any data loss resulting from that as being caused by user error. I have to agree with Frans on this, by definition a new installation can even result in data loss and making backups is advised. I would say that leaving a system in a suspended state fails from the beginning in the area of did not do a backup as you were advised. -- Regards, EddyP = Imagination is more important than knowledge A.Einstein -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#448855: (pas de sujet)
After a little research, I'm wondering if this is an issue (although maybe not a bug?) with mount, and not fuse. From 'man mount': When the proc filesystem is mounted (say at /proc), the files /etc/mtab and /proc/mounts have very similar contents. The former has somewhat more information, such as the mount options used, but is not necessarily up-to-date (cf. the -n option below). It is possible to replace /etc/mtab by a symbolic link to /proc/mounts, and especially when you have very large numbers of mounts things will be much faster with that symlink, but some information is lost that way, and in particular working with the loop device will be less convenient, and using the user option will fail. The last line says that with /etc/mtab as a symlink to /proc/mounts, the user option will fail. I assume that fuse mounts have an implict user option? The strange thing is that 'mount' works fine, while it is 'umount' that fails. I have confirmed this same behavior with a normal filesystem, ie. a local ext3 filesystem specified with the user option in /etc/fstab is mountable but not unmountable by a regular user when /etc/mtab is a symlink to /proc/partitions. I clearly don't understand what all the issues here are, but I thought I would at least point this out. jamie. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
