Using lowercase was intentional. IN that case, we're speaking about
the daemon program itself, not the whole Software in general. Hence,
reviewers did choose to use the exact spelling of the daemon program name.

As a consequence, I do not agree this is a bug.

Bug#457154: gclcvs: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update

2007-12-19 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: gclcvs
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

If you do not already use it, you might consider using the
"podebconf-report-po" utility, which helps warning translators about
changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages.

The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators
when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf
templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week
for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA
process which requires time).

podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the
needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the
PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-)

Example use (from your package build tree):

$ podebconf-report-po

This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an
update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a
mail to send to these translators (you can also use the
"--languageteam" switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in
"Language-Team" field).

You can also use this utility to request for new translations:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will send a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with all the
needed information and material for new translators to add new
languages to your supported languages.

If you apply this policy, please forget about these remarks, of
courseThis message is generic..:-)

Bug#452595: Asterisk SNMP OID's not available.

> this OID
I tried to follow the documentation and verified that indeed it does not
work.
It appears that asterisk is unable to connect to the AgentX socket of snmpd.

This appears to be a permission problem, since asterisk drops its
privileges.

The agentXPerms configuration directive of snmpd.conf (as suggested by
Asterisk's documentation and snmpd's man page) is supposed to call
chmod/chown to alter the permissions of /var/agentx and /var/agentx/master.

This is not however the case, presumably due to a bug of snmpd.

To workaround this bug, try to change the permissions of /var/agentx and
/var/agentx/master. For example
chown -R asterisk.asterisk /var/agentx
This is far from ideal, since you'll have to execute this every time
snmpd is (re)started.

I'm reassigning the bug so that the Net-SNMP maintainers can have a look.

Thanks,
Faidon

Yes, you Manual actually wrote that:

So now I seem to begin to understand. Before, openmpi used to use
/usr/include/mpi.h (because I was just including /usr/include and the
packages compiled), right? Then you decided to do it the same way as
the other packages and thus you moved to /usr/include/mpi/mpi.h (I
completely agree!)?
This of course broke some packages, but the solution is just to import
/usr/include/mpi, the same way as with lam, or mpich

Bug#455226: Please add libexpat1-dev to Build Depends

2007-12-19 Thread Daniel Baumann

Hi,

libexpat is already pulled in through direct depends of libgtk2. There
is no way you can install libgtk2 (to fulfil the build-depends) without
having also libexpat.

Where/How did you manage to build it anyways?

Regards,
Daniel

Bug#456774: lm-sensors3 does not work

2007-12-19 Thread Svante Signell
Severity: serious
Tags: Patch

After looking at the calculations made in sensors3.conf causing the
problems I found that the difference between versions 2.10 and 3.0:
In version 2.10 the calculated values can be used in a subsequent
calculation, while it does not work for version 3.0 :-(, see code below:

compute in0 (24/14.7 + 1) * @ , @ / (24/14.7 + 1)
compute in5 (160/35.7)*(@ - in0) + @, (@ + in0*160/35.7)/(1+160/35.7)

As a workaround, I've changed the calculated 5V value with a fixed value
of 5V, see patch below for calculation of -12V and -5V values:

Is this supposed to work?

Could you *ever* generate a pdf of that with pdfxmltex?

If you want please use

Ah, maybe you mean /usr/include/mpi/mpi.h?

The md5sums are the same, but clearly this is not a symlink on my
system. I tried to include /usr/include/mpi in petsc4py and this seems
to work.

So, is a solution to your bug to include /usr/include/mpi and that's
it? I am worried it's not a symlink.

I meant octave2.9, numpy _now_ unnecessarily depend on atlas. Sorry
for the typo. :-)

Hi Manuel,

thanks very much for your reply. As you explained in your previous email,
I think the misunderstanding is, that you and Dirk think, that
/usr/include/mpi.h
is symlinked to /usr/lib/openmpi/whatever, right?

If it was true, everything would be fine and imho that would be
according to the policy. Unfortunately, I think it is not true:

$ ll /usr/include/mpi.h
ls: /usr/include/mpi.h: No such file or directory

That's just my computer, it can be misconfigured. But it's the same
problem on buildbots:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=456869

As you can see there:

> /usr/lib/petsc/include/petsc.h:138:17: error: mpi.h: No such file or directory

if the mpi.h was in /usr/include, as you say, it would be found.

I am sad, that you think it is not a bug.

Imho, the right thing to do is to open this bug, leave it open, and
then try to fix it. Maybe it's a problem with update-alternatives
again,
as it used to be in the past. Could be. But, the end result is, that
libopenmpi-dev is not following FHS (for one reason or another) and
that is a bug (in my opinion). So let's open this bug and maybe
another one in update-alternatives, blocking this one?

I think there is some misunderstanding, I am sure you have thought
about libopenmpi-dev being compliant to FHS and that's why
you think it's not a bug, but I have my computer misconfigured (and
buildbots too). So where is your intended place for mpi.h?
/usr/inlude/mpi.h? Or /usr/include/openmpi/mpi.h? (Neither exist on my system).

Let's make this clear, and then try to fix this bug.

I would be glad, if you could Dirk reopen it.

Thanks a lot,
Ondrej

Bug#457152: qa.debian.org: Accurately represent Bugs/Patches available in the Todo section of PTS page

Hi,

The Todo section of the PTS page lists the number of patches, but this
number is misleading (see the reportbug PTS page) because it counts the
patches on merged bugs multiple times. One of the following two things
may be a good idea:

1. Don't count the patches on merged bugs multiple times

2. Reword "The Bug Tracking System contains NN patches, you should
include them" to "The Bug Tracking System contains patches to fix NN
bugs, you should include them." (or something on those lines).

Bug#457151: dpkg-dev -- should not reorder Build-Depends

2007-12-19 Thread Kumar Appaiah
Package: dpkg-dev
Version: 1.14.12
Severity: serious
Tags: patch

Dear dpkg developers,

Please see this thread for context, though I've pasted relevant stuff:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2007/12/msg00361.html

Well, here's a further diagnosis. For some reason, the order of
installed packages in the buildds (and my pbuilder) are being
reordered in alphabetical order.

See this old log. The apt-get command follows the same order as
specified in the package's Build-Depends:
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?&pkg=octave2.9&ver=1%3A2.9.17-1&arch=sparc&stamp=1195174810&file=log

But here, it is in alphabetical order:
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?&pkg=octave2.9&ver=1%3A2.9.19-1&arch=sparc&stamp=1197772112&file=log

And I saw the source package for octave2.9, here's the control:

Build-Depends: g++-4.1 (>= 4.1.1-4), debhelper (>= 5.0.0), autoconf, texinfo,
 texlive-latex-base, texlive-generic-recommended, g77,
 libreadline5-dev,
[snip]

Notice that refblas3-dev is _before_ lapack3-dev. Now, if apt-get is
called faithfully in this order, atlas does not come in. But if it is
reordered, the lapack3-dev dependencies are honoured first, and that
pulls in atlas3-base, which is the first alternate dependency, and is
satisfiable.

As this has caused enough damage already (e.g. octave2.9, numpy etc.)
not unnecessarily depend on atlas. Therefore, I chose to file this as
serious. Please feel free to downgrade severity if you feel so.

I've attached a trivial patch to prevent the ordering.

Thanks.

Bug#457149: python-gnome2: does not map bonobo.ui properly

2007-12-19 Thread Michael Johnson

Package: python-gnome2
Version: 2.20.1-1
Severity: important

When I upgraded from 2.20.0-1 yesterday, quodlibet stopped working for me.
It would generate the following error when starting from the command line:

ImportError: could not import bonobo.ui
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/quodlibet", line 304, in ?
main()
File "/usr/bin/quodlibet", line 45, in main
window = widgets.init(player, library)
File "/usr/share/quodlibet/widgets.py", line 53, in init
qltk.session.init()
File "/usr/share/quodlibet/qltk/session.py", line 22, in init
client.set_restart_style(gnome.ui.RESTART_IF_RUNNING)
AttributeError: '__main__.GnomeClient' object has no attribute
'set_restart_style'

After digging around, I discovered that the bonobo.ui error was the
problem.

It seems that the line

  import gnome, gnome.ui

is supposed to automatically load bonobo.ui. Unfortunately, it cannot, for
some reason. This, in turn, kill quodlibet.

Downgrading to python-gnome2 2.20.0-1 fixes the problem.

Thanks,
Michael

Bug#457146: manpages: capabilities(7) is missing text

2007-12-19 Thread Rafael C. de Almeida
Package: manpages
Version: 2.39-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

The capabilities(7) manpage states:

A full implementation of capabilities requires:

2. that the kernel provide system calls allowing a thread’s
capability sets to be changed and retrieved.

3. file system support for attaching capabilities to an
executable file, so that a process gains those capabilities when the
file is execed.

Clearly an item is missing. The missing item is:
1. that for all privileged operations, the kernel check whether the
process has the required capability in its effective set.

I haven't seen any crashes with 0.4.10-1+b1 so far (for example,
update+forget which often crashed seems to complete with no problems
now), so it should be relatively safe to assume it has been fixed.
Thanks!

Bug#457148: Display the date of 404s, and/or display only the most recent 404s.

2007-12-19 Thread Daniel Burrows
Package: visitors
Version: 0.7-3
Severity: wishlist

I'm not 100% sure since I've only been using visitors for a short time,
but it looks to me like visitors displays the top 404s for any page on
your site for all time. It would be more useful if old 404s expired and
if the most recent request date was displayed, so that I could be sure
that a URL I thought was fixed hadn't somehow developed new errors.
Another nice feature would be to suppress displaying 404s if there's a
later successful request to the same URL.

The ", pipe 3" has actually been there all along, and I believe it's
intentional. It is basically supposed to represent the number of
outstanding echo requests that ping expects to be in transit at any
given point. It's usually no greater than 1, in which case it's not
included in the summary. It's normally set when the RTT is greater than
the frequency with which requests are sent. In your case here, the
kernel isn't generating the Host Unreachables until 3 requests have been
sent, so it's set to 3. ping never shrinks the pipe value, so no matter
how fast echo replies or errors come in once it's been set, it never can
go back to 0.

I don't believe it should be printing the pipe value in cases similar to
the example you've provided...

Hi Ian. I'm having a tough time responding to this bug because I keep
changing my mind about what the response should be. On one hand, ping
is behaving as documented. From the description of -w from the man
page, ping "waits either for deadline expire or until count probes are
answered or for some error notification from network." But then again,
as you suggest, maybe Host Unreachables generated by the local host
should not be counted. I'm going to experiment with some changes to the
code and see how I like different behaviors.

Bug#454959: libxtemplate-ruby1.8: should be modified to use pkg-ruby-extras' standards (use cdbs, etc)

2007-12-19 Thread Barry deFreese

thank you

Hi,

Here is a patch to build libxtemplate-ruby1.8 with CDBS and the ruby
setup class. It also includes some other small fixes, a watch file, and
a standards version bump.

There is some funky stuff in the debdiff that I'm not sure where it came
from like changes to ext/Makefile.

Hope you can use it.

Thanks,

Barry deFreese

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
reportbug-ng needs to escape quotes in arguments passed to MUAs which use
quotes (e.g. KMail).

The attached patch fixes this.

Thank you.

Bug#457137: installation-guide: Korean PDF build with the new ko.tex fonts

2007-12-19 Thread Changwoo Ryu
Package: installation-guide
Severity: wishlist

The Korean TeX upstream authors decided to drop the old fonts
(latex-hangul-ucs-hlatex package) and released new macros/fonts.

So, this patch uses that new "ko.tex" fonts (ko.tex-base package)
instead of the old ones. Currently ko.tex-base package is in sid and
lenny.

Bug#457135: Confusing error "unable to create" for diverted files

2007-12-19 Thread dAniel hAhler
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.14.12
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
With diverted files the "unable to create" error is confusing. In the example
above, I've manually removed
the /usr/lib/nvidia directory while fiddling around with nvidia drivers.
The error refers to /usr/lib/xorg/modules/.. though, which is really confusing.

The debug output with -D110:

With the attached patch the error will look like the following instead:
dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/xserver-xorg-core_2%3a1.4.1~git20071212-1ubuntu2_i386.deb

 unable to create `/usr/lib/nvidia/libwfb.so.xserver-xorg-core.dpkg-new' (while
processing
`./usr/lib/xorg/modules/libwfb.so'): No such file or directory

I think using this format makes sense also for normal (non-diverted files),
because it points out the exact file where
the error occurred.

Bug#454954: libprogressbar-ruby: should be modified to use pkg-ruby-extras' standards (use cdbs, etc)

2007-12-19 Thread Barry deFreese

Hi,

After looking at this package, I don't think it is possible to use the
cdbs ruby classes on this package. It has no setup.rb, install.rb, or
extconf.

It is basically two Ruby files and that's it.

Even 0.9 from upstream is pretty much the same.

BTW, here is a watch file for the package if you are interested.

version=3

http://0xcc.net/ruby-progressbar/ruby-progressbar-([\d.]+)\.tar\.gz

Thanks,

Barry deFreese

Bug#457134: Can't unpack files with whitespace in the filename

2007-12-19 Thread Erich Schubert
Package: unp
Version: 1.0.13
Severity: grave

now it seems unp can't handle filenames with whitespace anymore:

'test archive.zip': not found
'test archive.zip' - unknown extension, checking with file
'/tmp/'\''test archive.zip'\': not found
'/tmp/'\''test archive.zip'\' - unknown extension, checking with file
unzip: cannot find or open /tmp/'test archive.zip', /tmp/'test
archive.zip'.zip or /tmp/'test archive.zip'.ZIP.
'/tmp/'\''test archive.zip'\' - unknown extension, checking with file

So filename escaping isn't working right yet.

The state of your system is perfectly well-defined, stable, and not in
the least dangerous, even if it does require manual recovery by the
system administrator (who should be in attendance during upgrades). It
also does not appear to be a problem introduced by the Debian openssh
packages.

Where did this "NoneEnabled yes" come from? The openssh packages didn't
put it there; I've double-checked by searching everything back to
version 1:3.6.1p2-9 from September 2003, which is the oldest I have
handy. Perhaps you were using a locally-patched version of openssh which
adds this option, in which case it's the responsibility of whoever's
providing this patch to maintain it. sshd will not start with
unrecognised configuration options; those options might represent an
important part of somebody's security policy and it's better to force
the system administrator to do something about it than to start up in
what might be an insecure state.

Bug#352811: Similar problem here

2007-12-19 Thread Mark Whitis

frame-parameters is a function, but not interactive, so you cannot
invoke it with M-x. You could paste the following line

(last (frame-parameters))

(last (frame-parameters))

((font . "-*-fixed-medium-r-normal-*-16-*-*-*-*-*-fontset-standard"))

But that is after, I switched fonts. Lets try again, flying blind:
((font . "-urw-nimbus mono
l-regular-r-normal--17-120-100-100-p-100-iso8859-1"))
Now, there is a catch. That font is not available according to
xfontsel - the last "100" (after
the -p-) must be replaced with * or 0 to get a valid font. I.E. the only
valid avgWidth is 0. That seems like a font bug but emacs should be

doing a better job of selecting a font.

BTW, it takes multiple seconds for emacs to load the new font.

And no .Xdefaults either? Also, what does "xrdb -query" print?

nope, just .Xauthority and .Xscrc (X-Lite Voip phone)
 xrdb -query

Bug#457131: O: mp3wrap -- Utility for MP3 wrapping (rolling multiple MP3s into one)

2007-12-19 Thread Paul Melnikow

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Command-line utility that wraps multiple MP3 files into a a single,
playable MP3, without losing filenames or ID3 information, and without
reencoding. Also supports archiving non-audio data such as playlists,
info files, and cover images inside the MP3. These files can be unpacked
later (using mp3splt, e.g.); ordinary MP3 decoders can play the entire
audio stream as one long track.

2007-12-19 Thread Paul Melnikow

Package: wnpp

Mp3Splt is a command line utility to split MP3 (VBR supported) and Ogg
Vorbis files into smaller files without decoding. Useful for splitting
albums, either manually, using freedb.org data, or .cue files and for
splitting based on length or on periods of silence in the file.

Please remove the package ao40tlmview. It provides a tool that is no longer

Accidently closed the bug report with my last email.
But then again, I think hal's behaviour in this case is correct so
closing the bug report was ok after all.
The package shouldn't just silently install leaving you with a
non-functioning hal installation.
That the installation aborted gave you a clear hint that something with
your system was not in order (borked system dbus) and allowed you to fix
it. Much better than hal silently upgrading without notice.

Cheers,
Michael

Well I agree that it /should/, but it never has, and alpha as an
architecture isn't covered by the LSB. It should implement POSIX, but OTOH
I have no idea why it was necessary to specify such a function in POSIX, nor
why dash needs to use this instead of the % and / operators.

libchipcard3 build depends on libgwenhywfar38-dev which is obsoleted by
libgwenhywfar47-dev. libgwenhywfar38-dev is not going to be reintroduced
again. Now, libchipcard (>= 4) is in the archive and makes libchipcard3
obsolete. So, ftp-masters, please remove libchipcard3 from the archive.

The only package still build-depending on libchipcard3 is libaqbanking,
which is already updated (to use libchipcard instead) in experimental.
So, as soon as libaqbanking >= 3 hits unstable, libchipcard3 can safely
be removed from the archive.

Sorry for this somewhat jolty transition of libgwenhywfar. I should have
prepared it a little more. On the other hand I learned a lot, and
promise to do it better the next time.

  Micha

xorg.conf was working before update.
Xorg log didn't contain any error other than the one shown.
If you still think it may be helpful I can seppuku X and save a full
log.

What surprised me was there were a lot of xorg packages waiting on
hold and they became all upgradable after upgrading aptitude.

I'd take it as a warning to avoid update, or update with care, rather
than a real "bug report".

Bug#457124: gitk: view definition dialog uses white background regardless of theme

2007-12-19 Thread Paul Wise
Package: gitk
Version: 1:1.5.3.7-1
Severity: normal

The gitk view definition dialog ignores the theme colours and just uses
white as the background for the text box. I use a dark coloured theme
called Mist Khaos. The attached screenshot shows what the view
definition looks like for me. As you can see, it is unusable unless I
type then select the text to see what I typed. The boxes that need to be
fixed are the "Commits to include" and the "Files & directories to

Package: ttf-khmeros
Version: 5.0-1

By default the decorative Khmer OS Metal Chrieng font is preferred over
the normal Khmer OS font. This is undesirable as it is not designed for
readability.

Here is some output from fontconfig:

The attached config file, if placed as /etc/fonts/conf.d/65-khmer.conf
causes Khmer OS to be preferred for sans-serif and serif and Khmer OS
System to be preferred for monospace.

Here is some output from fontconfig after adding this file:

Please create an update for ttf-khmeros that installs the attached
fontconfig snippet properly. It would be good to get this long-standing
problem fixed in Debian.

Bug#456782: ITP: tcpwatch -- tcpwatch is a recorder for HTTP requests in Python

but this is a misconception because the program *can* be used
individually, and it was also developed much earlier than whatever
/usr/lib/package you might think is appropriate. And last but not
least, you find eg. sendmail in /usr/libexec on BSDs, but not in
/usr/lib/sendmail/sendmail on Linux, don't you?

Anyway, I'll put the program where I think it fits, and it will be in
accordance to packaging rules.

Bug#457121: lua5.1: Lua stack is too small for a script that takes over 2048 arguments

2007-12-19 Thread Norman Ramsey
Package: lua5.1
Version: 5.1.2-4
Severity: normal

I just got this rather unhappy result:

: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 10445 ; label-by-hand -udir /home/nr/tmp/tt2 *
lua5.1: stack overflow (too many arguments to script)

It seems to me that the Lua interpreter should accept as many
arguments as the local operating system is willing to provide. This
number is fairly fuzzy (see http://tinyurl.com/nn8yd for a good
discussion of the issues), but the current default of 2048 is
unreasonably small for a stock Debian system. ARG_MAX is 131072 on
this system, so supposing we assume each argument is an 8.3 pathname
with a trailing null, even leaving room for some environment this is
space for about ten thousand arguments. I suggest that when Lua is
built for Debian that line 445 of luaconf.h be changed so that
LUAI_MAXCSTACK is more in that range.

2007-12-19 Thread Mark Whitis
Package: openssh-server
Version: 1:4.6p1-7
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

This bug is rated critical because it breaks "apt-get upgrade" and
leaves the system in a dangerously unstable state.

The package will install when you remove the offending line from

It is possible that out of around 1000 packages upgraded,
openssh-server was the last to be configured and apt-get didn't really

No notable changes were necessary, if I remember correctly.

Removing libdirectfb-0.9.25 definately helped. Splashy now generally works,
although not perfectly:

1) After about 5% progress while booting, the boot process stalls (with
Splashy visible) until F2 is pressed, at which point booting continues
(Splashy still being displayed).

2) After logging into X, there are some small black spots near the top of the
screen. This is X.org 1:7.3+8 with NVidia drivers 100.14.19-1 compiled from
source.

You are wrong, sorry :p
Just open one .la file and you will understand.

They are supposed to hide the complexity of dynamic libraries.

For example, if you are linking thanks to libtool with a dyn library,
you can use the .la file to link it.
And if this library has dependencies, the .la will tell you that. It
will also provide you the name of the library, linker flags, version

Example:
# grep dependency myGreatLibraryWhichNeedsPcre.la
dependency_libs=' -L/usr/lib -lpcreposix -lpcre'

I hope I am clear on this ;)

The reasoning for dropping the .la files was that we don't build .a
files. My understanding is that .la is useless without .a, so installing
them did not make much sence to me. Or am I wrong here?

That was the reasoning why I did that.

That was my reason for handling it that way.

Moving it to /usr/include/mpi.h would mean to move everything under the
mpi packages' subdirectories to /usr/include, handling the common
filenames via update-alternatives. This is quite complex because one has
to work around #220044 and friends as we do now for the libs. It also
requires changes in the other packages, so we should provide patches for
them too and coordinate stuff like that. I don't see it as problem. It
comes in handy if you compile multiple MPI packages like Nicholas does
with gromacs.

2007-12-19 Thread Davide Mancusi
Package: fortunes-it
Version: 1.99-2

There is a spelling error in one of the quotes by James R. F. Quirk.
Presently it reads:
"Io non credo nell'astrologia. Se ci credessi, sarei un

It should read:
"Io non credo nell'astrologia. Se ci credessi, sarei un
Acquario, e gli Acquari non credono nell'astrologia."
Note the "Acquari" in the second line, instead of "Aquari".

$ grep Aquari /usr/share/games/fortunes/it/*
/usr/share/games/fortunes/it/italia:Aquari non credono nell'astrologia."
/usr/share/games/fortunes/it/italia.u8:Aquari non credono nell'astrologia."

That applies to everyone: I don't like the tone of the recent emails and
would be glad if we could all calm down and keep the discussion at a
technical level, so we can spend our time on working on Debian and not
flaming each other.

mpi.h is provided in /usr/include/mpi via update-alternatives, as every
other include file needed by an MPI implementation is, so I do not see
the problem here. I don't find a reference in the policy that states
that one is not allowed to symlink to where the files reside in the
filesystem. Actually, all packages using update-alternatives I looked at
so far put their stuff in /usr/lib/package. If that's wrong, we can
correct that. But from what I saw this is common practice. mpich even
has files in /usr/lib/mpich/bin. IANADD, so I may be wrong and looked at
broken packages. Could you please give me some insight how a solution
would look like in your eyes? Thanks in advance!

I guess there's some misunderstanding here. mpi.h is located
in /usr/lib/openmpi/include so it does not conflict with other MPI
packages. But this directory is symlinked to /usr/include/mpi via
alternatives, along with the compilers. So this ensures that the mpicc
you use matches the /usr/include/mpi/mpi.h that is used and therefore
prohibits conflicts. This is true for all MPI packages that provide
mpi.h and mpicc (and similar compiler wrappers). So
including /usr/include/mpi in your include file search path is the right
thing to do. Given that, it does not matter if your package compiles for
example against openmpi or lam4.

You're right, /usr/include is still the search path. To the best of my
knowledge the current behavior is in agreement with policy since we
provide mpi.h under /usr/include. It's just in the mpi sub-directory to
not get in conflict with other MPI packages. (MPI should be MPI, right?)

Unfortunately, dpkg and other tools that can scan for files in packages
are not aware of symlinks created by update-alternatives. So you just
might have missed /usr/include/mpi.

Hope I was able to clarify the issue. And I don't think it's a bug as
well.

Manuel

the FHS (and debian by extension) doesn't provide support for /usr/libexec.
in every case i know of, contents of what would otherwise have gone

Bug#457116: motion init script seems to start even if I use the default motion.conf

My problem is that I don't want to start any motion daemon, because I
use motion to do video with my webcam, but not all the time. So I keep
the initial motion.conf with:

SO I think there is a bug somewhere, isn't it ?

Ah-ha, I've found the problem. The order of the "install" depends

install: install-indep install-arch

Otherwise the -common tree isn't populated.

I would like to make an NMU to primary address the FTBFS with GCC 4.3 (which
actually happens because the patches do not get applied as I already pointed
out in #455414). The fix for #455414 will probably also fix the current FTBFS
of 1.5.1.6-2 on amd64 so that labplot can migrate to testing again. Besides
this and since you are encouraging NMUs, I would also like to change some
things that are normally not done in an NMU (such as updating the
Standards-Version, adding the Homepage field, etc.). My proposed NMU-diff is
attached. I am currently testing the NMU and when I am finished with it, I
will send the final diff to #455414.

Hi Steve,

I've prepared a patch for 445396 with some more changes as we (Debian
Python Modules Team) seems to be a co-maintainer for your package :-)
(dunno why you didn't inject it in the SVN)

You can also easily get rid of all lintian warnings (and remove lintian
override) by removing shebang from all .py files (these files should
not have them). I didn't do it, because I don't know what patch system

I tend to agree here, given that one of (if not the main) primary uses
of sbuild is to check that sources will autobuild correctly on the
main buildds, using the other sbuild. This is one place where we
definitely need to be compatible.

However, I wouldn't be opposed to adding a command-line and/or
configuration option which would allow the user to alter this, so long
as it is not the default behaviour. Adding a variable to
Sbuild/Conf.pm is pretty easy, as is a new command-line option. If
you would like to make a patch for that, that would be super.

I have committed all of the other changes, as the diff below. If you
do a "git pull" or a fresh "git clone", you should get this.

I have read the discussion in the bug report. If it is anywhere else, please
point to it instead of playing smart-ass.

From the fhs:
/usr/include : Directory for standard include files.
/usr/lib : Libraries for programming and packages

mpi.h surely only fits in first category.

Bug#457112: inkscape: 2 becomes 1, 1->0,...

2007-12-19 Thread franck
Package: inkscape
Version: 0.45.1-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

Inkscape takes the liberty to render differently the numbers existing in svg
files.
When an svg contains the number 3, inkscape show and print 2. Others numbers
are also shown and printed minus 1.

Example:
1) save following text in 'mytest.ps' file

%!PS-Adobe-2.0
%%DocumentPaperSizes: letter
%%EndComments
%%EndProlog

%%Page: 1 1

[
% charxpos ypos fontsize
[(1) 21.00 199.00 12.00]
[(2) 32.00 199.00 0.00]
[(3) 43.00 199.00 0.00]
[(4) 54.00 199.00 0.00]
]   { {} forall dup 0.00 ne {
/Helvetica findfont exch scalefont setfont
} {pop} ifelse
moveto show} bind forall

showpage
%%Trailer

2) convert above .ps to .svg
pstoedit -f plot-svg mytest.ps mytest.svg

3) open 'mytest.svg' with any viewer (vim, gthumb...).
It still contains the numbers '1 2 3 4'

4) open 'mytest.svg' with Inkscape
It shows and prints the numbers '0 1 2 3'

Funny bug :-)

Regards,
Franck
