Bug#463916: zsh: Should drop debconf note for obsolete file locations transition

2008-02-03 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: zsh
Severity: normal

The only debconf note used in this package deals with a very old transition
(RC files from /etc to /etc/zsh). I think it's now safe to assume that all
installations have moved these files.

Therefore, the debconf note and all debconf cruft is no longer needed.

I also propose dropping the code that moves configuration files (in
postinst) as this is a transition from a pre-etch package version.

Patch attached.

Strangely, I found no reference to debconf stuff in debian/rules. I haven't
checked carefully but I really wonder how the package was installing the
debconf templates..:-)

Bug#463915: libnss-ldapd: Segfaulting on AMD64

2008-02-03 Thread Thomas Antepoth
Package: libnss-ldapd
Version: 0.5+b1
Severity: important

On my AMD64 box the nslcd demon crashes quite frequently.

After the crash no mappings are resolved any more as far as they are fetched
from the LDAP server in the LAN. Local mappings still work.

Those crashes occur about ten to twenty times a day without any visible
action, although I was not able to find a way to reproduce the crash
reliably:

The syslog shows regarding this segfault nothing more than:

Feb 4 07:39:01 sofa kernel: nslcd[1077]: segfault at ac00b150 rip

Another crashed session which was done via "nslcd -d" on

The user having this UID 15325 is existing and resolvable by LDAP when
issuing an "getent passwd 15325" after a restart of nslcd.

A third session using "gdb" is yet to come and appended to this bugreport
later.

Bug#463011: Found in sid version, slight correction, upstreamed

2008-02-03 Thread Phil Miller
package openssh-client
found 463011 4.7p1-2
forwarded 463011 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
thanks

I just tested this using client versions packaged in Debian Sid and
Ubuntu Gutsy, and it worked as described on both. DISPLAY was set to
:10, even though another process was already listening on the relevant
port. However, step 2 of the reproduction recipe should have the
command as "netcat -l 6010 -vv" - the '-p' flag is an error.

As noted in the control section, I have forwarded this to Theo
DeRaadt, the point of contact for security issues found in OpenBSD's
software.

I hope to see this fixed soon. Keep up the great packaging work!

Phil

State 'R', while I was out today the PC was running a job, and
'index++' must of started when I turned on the PC; here you can see
the 'index++' has been running for 8 hours:

This bug may also be related:

#459611 was already assigned to 'swish++', perhaps this should
be morged this? Still, I'm somewhat confused as to where it really
belongs, as it's not yet clear what's going on.

Still bad -- while installing the new 'dhelp' v0.6.5, it stops here:

Er, then that's a problem since you said you did *not* try php5-common
5.2.5-1, and libapache2-mod-php5 depends on php5-common of the same version.
You seem to be doing something quite unsupported with the packages.

And this would explain why php5 was not enabled in apache2, because
libapache2-mod-php5 cannot be in an installed state if there's a version
mismatch between libapache2-mod-php5 and php5-common; and before it's in
state "installed", the module is not enabled for apache2's use (this is done
in the libapache2-mod-php5 postinst).

I think these two bug reports should be merged. There is at most one bug
here - and more likely zero bugs.

You should probably stick to using apt-get/aptitude for installing the

Bug#463914: pidgin-musictracker: Update interval and conditional/empty variable handling?

2008-02-03 Thread ADFH
Package: pidgin-musictracker
Version: 0.4.1-1
Severity: wishlist

Observing through debug window that musictracker seems to check every
ten seconds for a status update in music player (in my case, XMMS).

(17:03:24) core-musictracker: libxmms.so libxmms.so.1
(17:03:24) core-musictracker: Failed to load library libxmms.so
(17:03:24) core-musictracker: Got position 4460
(17:03:24) core-musictracker: Got state 2
(17:03:24) core-musictracker: Got title PERFORMER | | TRACKNAME
(17:03:24) core-musictracker: XMMS,PERFORMER,,TRACKNAME,2
(17:03:24) core-musictracker: Formatted status: XMMS: TRACKNAME (7:07) by
PERFORMER on
(17:03:24) core-musictracker: Filtered status: XMMS: TRACKNAME (7:07) by
PERFORMER on
(17:03:24) core-musictracker: Status set for all accounts

This happens every ten seconds, and I'm concerned that unless the
libpurple internals are realising that the message isn't actually
changing when I'm in the same track, that I'm flooding my buddies with
status updates.

Additionally, if I get a crap track in random play, and I'm "next, next,
next" through the tracks in my playlist for more than ten seconds, does
that mean my buddies potentially get three updates in 22 seconds? If
this is the case, perhaps it'd be best to introduce some configurable
throttling (or perhaps this is the case and just needs to be
documented or I'm suffering a case of "domestic blindness").

Also, some of my tracks don't have album information (as shown in
example above) or may be singles etc. - perhaps conditional formatting
code to allow exclusion of a particular string sequence in the message
if the variable is null/whitespace?

Lastly - just out of curiosity - the failed to load library libxmms.so,
I take it that's just because it tries libxmms.so, then libxmms.so.1?
Once it's done it once successfully, shouldn't it cache rather than
banging away at something it knows doesn't exist, or is this in case
people change their software config whilst pidgin running?

... arguably if a library were changed, and then it failed, perhaps then
one would fall back to checking both before complaining? Maybe this is
related to autodetect (though I have it set specifically to XMMS).

I don't doubt that it should be enough, I'm just trying to rule out a
relative difference in CPU performance that might explain why I can't
reproduce it.

Ah I misunderstood what you meant. The suspicious site also doesn't
slow down my system either.

Hmm. Any extensions installed? Can you try run in -safe-mode and see
if it makes any difference?

Bug#463901: mpd needs 'shout' audio output plugin compiled in package - Lenny

2008-02-03 Thread Decklin Foster
Brian Millan writes:

> Supported outputs:
> alsa ao oss pulse jack

Hmm. Unfortunately, this is not surprising. See #453746; we don't build
with libvorbis on arm, but rather libvorbisidec ("Tremor", the integer
decoder); e.g. the NSLU2 doesn't have a FPU so regular libvorbis is
unacceptably slow.

libvorbisidec, is, however, just a decoder; Shout needs to encode to
Vorbis as well, and so depends on libvorbis (floating-point). Therefore
if MPD is configured --with-tremor shout output is disabled. It *might*
be possible to hack things up to use Tremor for decoding but still link
against libvorbis for shout outputs, but this would probably be ugly and
you'd still end up with poor performance.

There doesn't seem to be a good answer here; sorry.

Yup, it was indeed. Will be fixed in the next release.

Package: lintian
Version: 1.23.42

Hi,

As best I can determine, Lintian was complaining about a changelog line
being too long, when it was 77 characters long, but it contained three
unicode characters in it. I'm guessing it was counting the unicode
characters as two characters each.

Huh. I feel like I'm losing my mind. I could have sworn that I checked
this at one point and the modules were linked with libperl on amd64, but
maybe I'm dreaming. /usr/bin/perl is liked with libperl on amd64 and not
on i386, but yeah, even in stable the modules aren't.

Could you enable the /etc/dhcp3/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/debug hook (by
editing it and changing RUN to "yes") and checking out the
/tmp/dhclient-script.debug file and telling me what new_domain_search is set

They all look like pretty dusty bugs.
But here's a secret, the first one (87574) was modified today!
That's right, because it isn't marked as e.g., "Modified 0 days ago" one
would never guess, unless they were an insider.
Therefore you should still mention when an item was modified, even if it
was not too long ago.

P.S., since the whole page is about the same package, then perhaps
don't say the Package: ... again on each item. Yes, do still say the version.

Bug#463909: bzr: Internal error with "bzr check"

2008-02-03 Thread Ming Hua
Package: bzr
Version: 1.1~rc1-1
Severity: normal

Dear bzr maintainers,

I am not quite sure if this is a bug in bzr on the bzr-svn plugin, I'm
reporting it to bzr based on the Python traceback.

On one of my machines, "bzr check" fails with an internal error. The
branch uses a rich-root format shared repository, the "upstream" branch
is a checkout of SVN upstream, and "packaging" branch is originally
branched from "upstream".

There were also some other complicated operations to this branch, such
as accessed by different versions of bzr (my home directory is mounted
in both Debian and Ubuntu), and pulling from another branch over
bzr+ssh:// protocol. I can not reproduce this error in another unstable
machine that installs the same bzr packages and uses a very similar
repository/branch layout, but on this machine it's 100% reproducible.
It seems this doesn't affect my daily use of this branch, however.

I'm putting the error and the output of "bzr info --verbose" at the end
of this mail. I realize rich-root is no longer the default format, but
I'd appreciate if a fix or workaround can be provided. If you needs
more information, please ask.

Thanks,
Ming

Bug#463908: Fails to initialize USB on Dell OptiPlex 745 (maybe because of pnpacpi limits)

2008-02-03 Thread Michal Čihař
Package: linux-image-2.6.24-1-686
Version: 2.6.24-2
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi

I just tried 2.6.24 kernel and unfortunately I can not use it - this PC
has only USB ports to connect keyboard and USB does not work in 2.6.24.
First error message I get from kernel is:

pnpacpi: exceeded the max number of IO resources: 40

Then random USB errors start to appear:

usb 4-2: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
usb 4-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
usb 4-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
usb 4-2: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4

usb 4-2: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 6

usb 4-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
usb 4-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
usb 4-2: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 9

And it still continues in these errors. I'm not really sure if the
pnpacpi message is related to this USB problem or not, but at least it
looks suspicious.

I'm attaching boot logs of both 2.6.23 and 2.6.24 and it looks like
2.6.24 has found much more IO ranges which it is trying to reserve.

If you need any other infrmation, feel free to ask.

That's very helpful. Thank you for doing the detailed debugging!

I should probably just change it so that any error (including
ENOMEDIUM) that's not EPERM causes the cache entry to be flushed.
That should address your problem, and that should cause blkid to do
the right thing.

I agree that we're better off if perl links to libperl on all archs, so we
can maximize the use of RTLD_LOCAL. I think libltdl's API should also be
fixed.

Yeah, that's the fix; but libtool --install blows up nastily when you link
against something that's not a system library, *and* has a name that doesn't
begin with "lib", because -lback_ldap doesn't work very well for
relinking... :)

Hi,

Thanks for reproducing the bug with twm and providing the screenshots.

No problem. Glad to help.

There's a somewhat similar problem described in the upstream bug
tracker, but to be sure I have forwarded a copy of your report for the
upstream developers to decide.

See http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=510688

Thanks!

Thanks for your efforts on this bug. It would sure be nice to drop gv in
favor of evince, since gv's interface is sure klunky, but this bug is
currently a showstopper for me.

There's also epdfview which uses the same pdf backend as Evince.

Interestingly, epdfview displays the same behavior, but one decorations'
width instead of two...

Take care,

Reid

I was surprised to hear that perl modules were linked to libperl on !i386
(which would be the correct thing to do, I just didn't think the standard
perl build rules handled this). So I checked, and on my amd64 system:

$ ldd /usr/lib/perl/5.8.8/auto/POSIX/POSIX.so
libm.so.6 => /lib/libm.so.6 (0x2b02d4451000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x2b02d46d2000)
/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x4000)
$

So sure enough, I tried the test case from
, and:

# slapd
Error Can't load '/usr/lib/perl/5.8/auto/POSIX/POSIX.so' for module POSIX:
/usr/lib/perl/5.8/auto/POSIX/POSIX.so: undefined symbol: PL_sig_name at

I have no idea if this is a regression from previous perl builds, but it
looks to me like it's a general problem at this point.

Bug#463907: Creates tempfiles in a unsafe way

2008-02-03 Thread Frank Lichtenheld
Package: wml
Version: 2.0.11-1
Severity: serious
Tags: security

The following code in wml_backend/p1_ipp/ipp.src is obviously unsafe
(and actually causing practical problems during the Debian website
build):

$tmpdir = $ENV{'TMPDIR'} || '/tmp';
$tmpfile = $tmpdir . "/ipp.$$.tmp";
unlink($tmpfile);
$tmp = new IO::File;
$tmp->open(">$tmpfile") || error("cannot write into $tmpfile: $!");

Sadly enough this was fixed by the former maintainer for sarge but
apparently got lost when the new upstream was packaged for etch. See
the following code in sarge's version:

my $tmpldir = ($ENV{'TMPDIR'} || '/tmp') . '/ipp.XX';
$tmpdir = mkdtemp($tmpldir) or die "Unable to create temporary directory: $!\n";
$tmpfile = $tmpdir . "/ipp.$$.tmp";
unlink($tmpfile);
$tmp = new IO::File;
$tmp->open(">$tmpfile") || error("cannot write into $tmpfile: $!");

You could probably just use that again.

Gruesse,
Frank Lichtenheld

Bug#463906: libapache2-mod-php5 fails to install mods

2008-02-03 Thread Cam Ellison
Package: libapache2-mod-php5
Version: 5.2.5-2

Installation of libapache2-mod-php5_5.2.5-2_i386.deb is incomplete: it
does not install php5.conf and php5.load
into  /etc/apache2/mods-available. php4.conf and php4.load are still
present, even though libphp4.so no longer exists.

Reinstalling has no effect. It was necessary to unpack and manually
insert the files. libphp5.so is installed, but shows the package date
for version 5.2.5-1 (it appears to be the same file).

This machine runs lenny/sid, kernel 2.6.23.

The php5-common package has nothing to do with apache2. Which version of
libapache2-mod-php5 is available according to 'apt-cache policy
libapache2-mod-php5'?

If you're pulling from an out-of-date mirror, then installing the newest
php5-common could leave libapache2-mod-php5 uninstallable.

Bug#463138: lintian: package-contains-empty-perl-directory and Perl 5.10

I'm going to just remove this tag from lintian entirely. Given that Perl
5.10 is coming soon and the empty directories don't cause problems, just
untidiness, I think it's better to have maintainers just leave the
directories for right now rather than possibly introducing FTBFS problems
by trying to fix it. The Debian Perl Group has good internal procedures
for testing things and can fix this for our packages, but since the real
bug is in Perl, I think the average maintainer is best off just ignoring
it until the bug is fixed there.

P.S.: just how does one track the doc package?:

Bug#463904: lapack: New upstream is much improved.

2008-02-03 Thread Jason Riedy
Package: lapack
Severity: wishlist

Lapack 3.1.1 upstream is much improved over 3.0.* but should be
backwards-compatable. You might want to upgrade along with the
gfortran transition.

Bug#463787: /etc/blkid.tab negates purpose of label-based mounts

2008-02-03 Thread Petr Vandrovec

Theodore Tso wrote:

OK, can you try the following? Right after you boot, can you try
running this command, and let me know whether it returns the correct
information?

blkid -t LABEL=vms6

Or you don't have to reboot; try changing the device name at the end
of the line for vmm6, changing it to be something like this:

/dev/sda5

(The above is all one line)

and then try the above line, and see whether you get the right
information.

Blkid has always done the right thing in this regard, and nothing has
changed here recently --- that's why I'm asking you what version of
e2fsprogs you upgraded from previously.

I'm wondering if the issue is that the kernel is taking longer to
autodetect your USB devices, so they simpler aren't showing up at
boot. If the above works after the boot process.

So I would try the following. Try corrupting /etc/blkid.tab so the
device information for vms6 is wrong, and then try the mount. If it
works, but it's not working at boot time, try adding a sleep 15 before
the mount -a command in the init scripts, and see if that fixes it...

It seems to have something to do with device nodes which do exists in
namespace, but returns an ENOMEDIUM on open (*). When I tried your
example, or /dev/sda5 & 0x805, or any other /dev/sd* node (/dev/sd* is
maintained by udev on my box), or non-existing node, or node which
reports ENXIO (/dev/.static/dev/sdk1, /dev/.static/dev/sdg5) everything
is fine.

But when I pointed entry to:

UUID="82a15e8d-bae0-4300-8329-dc89268a71c4"
TYPE="ext3">/dev/.static/dev/sdb1

(/dev/.static/dev/sdb1 is partition on device which returns ENOMEDIUM on
open)

it added correct line, but left incorrect in place as well. So blkid
now reports two results:

gwy:/home/petr# blkid -t LABEL=vms6
/dev/.static/dev/sdb1: LABEL="vms6"
UUID="82a15e8d-bae0-4300-8329-dc89268a71c4" TYPE="ext3"
/dev/sdg1: LABEL="vms6" UUID="82a15e8d-bae0-4300-8329-dc89268a71c4"
TYPE="ext3"

And monut reports 'No medium' - with either one or two lines in
blkid.tab (and while blkid adds correct entry, mount does not do anything).

I've attached "strace blkid -t LABEL=vms6" output for case where there
was only bogus sdb1 entry in blkid.tab.

I suspect that problem is that volume in question was repartitioned &
reformatted recently - apparently it took udev some time to create nodes
in /dev, so blkid somehow found devices in /dev/.static/dev/sdX1, and
that triggered ENOMEDIUM problems on next boot - as for udev /dev/sdX1
would not exist, and so blkid would notice.

(*) I've looked at sources, and blkid has special case for
ENXIO/ENOENT/ENODEV. For ENOMEDIUM it reports back "returning
unverified data", and returns whatever it found in cache. I have no
idea what correct behavior should be - I'm sure in some cases users are
trying to mount drives without medium inside.

Yes, I believe so. As I understand it, the intention is future-proofing:
right *now*, the only thing update-desktop-database does is update MIME
databases, and hence dh_desktop does nothing if there is no MimeType
field, but this may not always be the case. With a dh_desktop call, any
future needs can be handled with a binNMU against the latest debhelper
should something additional be needed.

It's possibly mind-reading on my part, but I think that's what the
"currently be ignored" part is intended to get at.

Other developers are, of course, welcome to do what they wish.
However, my read of Policy is that it's not allowed, so I won't be
making the change to epydoc-doc. There's no reason Ubuntu can't
patch this on their end -- they've done that before with epydoc
(sometimes against my wishes, as a matter of fact).

This would be quite inappropriate. When moving between major PostgreSQL
releases you need to review, revise, reconfigure, and test your application.
If you don't want to do that, stay with the old major release. That is why
they continue to be maintained (at least upstream).

A user of LFS LiveCD reported a similar problem in the past. We were able to
solve this by adding the following lines to /etc/modprobe.conf:

options iwl3945 disable_hw_scan=1
options iwl4965 disable_hw_scan=1

Does this work for you?

While this is important, I think that having a functional bmpx 0.40.13
in lenny is more important. As such, downgrading severity.

I'll look into this after lenny. Thank you for your audit of this
package, it is indeed helpful.

With the iwlwifi modules in upstream and debian 2.6.24, I'm having
problems associating with anything other than WEP, and WEP outputs a lot
of debug info into syslog. I was once able to associate with WPA and WPA2
(under 2.6.23), but it wouldn't roam once it lost its connection first
time, until the module was rmmodded and modprobed again. Now I can't
associate at all, in 2.6.24.

I suspect those instructions may be out of date.

First, we get a 403 forbidden from apt-get update:
W: Failed to fetch
http://kernel-archive.buildserver.net/debian-kernel/dists/trunk/main/binary-amd64/Packages.gz
  403 Forbidden
W: Failed to fetch
http://kernel-archive.buildserver.net/debian-kernel/dists/sid/main/binary-amd64/Packages.gz
  403 Forbidden

Suspecting that http://kernel-archive.buildserver.net/debian-kernel
should be http://kernel-archive.buildserver.net/debian-kernel/build
I tried again, but there is no trunk directory under
http://kernel-archive.buildserver.net/debian-kernel/build/dists
only sid.

And finally, there's no binary-amd64 directory under
http://kernel-archive.buildserver.net/debian-kernel/build/dists/sid/main/
and
http://kernel-archive.buildserver.net/debian-kernel/build/dists/trunk/main/

And this is the problem. It *is* linked against libperl on every
architecture except i386, and on those architectures, the perl binary is
also linked against libperl instead of duplicating the code. I think i386
should be changed to match. This came up on debian-devel recently.

Can't we just link back_meta against back_ldap? Or is that what your fix

Did you test the perl backend using any XS modules?

The Debian OpenLDAP packages are linked against the system libltdl, which
opens all objects with RLTD_LOCAL instead of RTLD_GLOBAL. RTLD_GLOBAL is
what upstream libltdl uses, but it's not a sane behavior for a
general-purpose system library because it's completely unscalable and has
resulted in symbol clobbering bugs in the past; so the Debian package is
patched to use RLTD_LOCAL, which in turn is not usable for the case of
multiple levels of plugins where the plugins at the bottom level reference
symbols that they expect to be provided by the caller.

Since the perl package in Debian is not linked against libperl, perl
extensions also cannot be linked against libperl since this would cause two
copies of the perl XS symbols to be loaded. So perl modules have dangling
symbol references that are expected to be resolved by whatever dlopen()s
them, but if the perl interpreter itself is loaded via dlopen(RTLD_LOCAL),
the perl symbols are not visible to the very perl extensions that it's
loading, regardless of what flags the perl interpreter itself uses when
calling dlopen().

Stephen and I were just discussing this extensively this morning in
connection with freeradius, which has the same problem in Debian for
rlm_perl; I'm pretty sure this analysis is correct, but I'm open to the
possibility that it works by some means I haven't thought of so am
interested to hear of any test cases you have for this.

BTW, a similar bug was reported recently (... in the past 3 months or so;
and possibly only via the mailing list) on the OpenLDAP package because
back_meta references symbols from back_ldap but doesn't link against it, so
back_meta in Debian can never see those symbols even if back_ldap is loaded
first. I have a possible fix for this (which btw is detected by upstream's
'make test'), but have been reluctant to implement it so far because it's an
ugly thing involving making symlinks to back_ldap to keep libtool happy.

Ultimately, I think it was a poor decision for the libltdl authors to create
an interface that doesn't support specifying crucial flags like RTLD_GLOBAL
and RTLD_LOCAL when opening objects, as this has left us with use cases
which have mutually exclusive requirements. Perhaps it's time to try to
persuade libltdl upstream to add a fixed interface.

Okay, thanks.

I could have sworn that this wasn't happening with 2.3.30 or
thereabouts... oh, I know what the difference is. I was testing on
amd64. Right, now I understand.

This is that problem that's caused by Perl modules not being linked with
libperl on i386 (but not on any other architecture) and instead
duplicating the symbols between perl and libperl and leaving them
undefined in the modules. This works correctly if the modules are linked
with libperl, which they are on amd64 and Debian's other architectures.

You're right, this isn't closed; it's just i386-specific.

When building git-core, it shows this error:

http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=git-core;ver=1%3A1.5.4-1;arch=i386;stamp=1202045722

It doesn't need cvsps package in build-depends?

I would just comment out the cipher list directive completely on upgrade
and document the need to correct it manually if desired in NEWS.Debian.
The most common use of this directive is to restrict use of weak ciphers,
which GnuTLS doesn't support in the first place.

It is unforunate that GnuTLS doesn't support the same general keywords as
OpenSSL, and it seems like that would be easy enough for GnuTLS to add.
Maybe a wishlist bug against GnuTLS is in order?

After some more thought, I think this should actually be a job of
Bazaar itself, since it should not be specific to bzr-builddeb.

Should we reassign this bug to bzr?

You've probably seen that a new grub has been uploaded, which should solve
this issue for unstable and etch.

However, there are also plans to use the Lenny Beta release of the installer
for "Etch+1/2" installations: installs of Etch, but with a newer kernel
(either 2.6.22 or 2.6.24).
As I don't expect the etch version of grub will be changed to support 256
byte inodes, we need to solve this in the installer.

I already have a patch for this (and tested that it works), but would
appreciate your confirmation on the solution. Note that this fix will not
affect installs of lenny or sid.

Is it correct that _only_ grub and thus only i386 and amd64 are affected?
Or phrased differently, is it enough to only change the default back to 128
for i386 and amd64, or should we also do that for other arches (even if
just to be on the safe side)?

The "fix" I have is ATM to execute the following command (in the D-I
environment) before the start of partitioning:
   sed -ir "s/(inode_size =) 256/\1 128/" /etc/mke2fs.conf

This works with the current conf file, but if needed I could make that a bit
more generic, for example:
   sed -ir "s/(inode_size =) .*/\1 128/g" /etc/mke2fs.conf

What do you think?

In general, could you please keep the debian-boot list (or maybe even just
d-d-a) informed if any other changes are planned that could affect people?

Cheers,
FJP

Reinstalling of php5-common doesn't install the file despite it

I suppose the file was "lost" during upgrade from sarge to etch,

I think it's important to make all upgrade processes as automatic as possible.

It's these manual interventions which defeat many if not most people.

We need to cater to users of applications who use postgres but who have never
otherwise even heard of it and are unfamiliar with the commandline environment
as well as the system programmers and database gurus.

I think an automatic upgrade with an opportunity to not upgrade (for disk
space, known problems, or whatever) is the way to go.

If any resultant fallout is then addressed the world becomes a better place.

Well, I tested the Perl backend in slapd a while back and it worked for
me, so I really do think this bug is closed. That's why I closed it. If
it isn't working for you, could you please report the exact error messages
that you're getting against the current version of the OpenLDAP slapd
package?

Hey,

This is in all likelihood not fixed (I am struggling with similar
issues in freeradius, and I can guarantee the same techniques
are not working there, and we both use the Debian ltdl). See
https://bugs.launchpad.net/openldap/+bug/90812 for more reports of it
being broken.

Ah, ok, I don't really know much about Debian. Anyway, my python-openal
package does not depend on libalut0 [1], if I interpret this right (not
sure there is a better way to check dependencies..).

Also, after installing libalut0 [2], the problem does not go away.

Not sure it matters, but I tried using ldd on the python module, and it
also does not indicate a dependency on libalut [3].

And it really is possible something is wrong on my system of course, I
have a quite a few non-Debian packages and lots of packages from third
party apt sources, so it wouldn't be the first time :P Any ideas how I
could check if something like that is causing trouble? I also just
re-installed python-openal, but it wouldn't change anything.

Bug#462958: bug in pam/pam_ldap

2008-02-03 Thread fireshark3
Hi,

since the last update, sasl seems to invert the realm and service parameters
and my clients aren't able to authenticate to the mail-server anymore. I have
more or less the same configuration of that described above.

I tested sasl with following command:

testsaslauthd -f /var/spool/postfix/var/run/saslauthd/mux -u [EMAIL
PROTECTED] -p test -s imap

And I got following output from sasl:

saslauthd[6677] :cache_get_rlock : attempting a read lock on slot: 64

saslauthd[6677] :cache_lookup: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [service=]
[realm=imap]: not found, update pending

saslauthd[6677] :cache_un_lock : attempting to release lock on slot:
64
saslauthd[6676] :handle_sigchld : child exited: 6677

After three of these tests I get "size read failed 0:" on the client console
and a "Segmentation fault" from saslauthd.

The realm service parameter is empty and the realm contains the service name:
[realm=imap]. If I use services other that imap and pop, everything is fine.
Prior to the update, everything went fine. Unfortunately, I do not have the
update mail anymore and I could not determine what files were been updated but
I'm pretty sure there is a problem with the pam_ldap package. The files "
/etc/pam.d/imap" and " /etc/pam.d/pop" contain:

authsufficient pam_ldap.so
account requiredpam_ldap.so

> I got everything working for me again temporarily by telling saslauthd to use
> ldap directly instead of via pam.

Can you tell me how you did that? Thx!

Best regards.

I intend to fix this bug along with the upload for the new upstream

But if anyone wants to NMU it before that time, that's fine with me as well.

To the best of my knowledge, none of these configurations achieve that goal.
While there's lore among Debian developers to the effect that
"Conflicts/Replaces" will trigger the package manager to pull in the new
package automatically as a replacement for the obsolete package, I have
never seen this happen in practice with any of the frontends.

The only two configurations that I know to achieve this purpose are:

- create a dummy package under the old package name, which depends on the
  new package name
- keep the old package name for the new version of the software

Cheers,

Bug#463891: man-db: /usr/local should come before /usr

Just as /usr/local/bin comes before /usr/bin, /usr/local/share/man and
/usr/local/man (if found) should come before /usr/share/man and
/usr/man (if found), so that man pages for locally installed programs
are found first, just as the commands themselves are.

Apologies, I missed the request for more info.

I'd love to be able to say that the problem has been resolved, but
unfortunately the bug is still present in linux-2.6.22.

Bug#463877: (no subject)

2008-02-03 Thread Francois Marier
Hi Mauro,

That looks like a weird problem.

Could you provide the full debug log (I think the button is called "Show
debugging information") from the burn window? It may contain some details
that would allow us to identify where the problem lies.

Thanks,

Francois
