Bug#464832: 'glcpu' eats 100% CPU, displays nothing.

2008-02-08 Thread A. Costa
Package: glcpu
Version: 1.0.1-6.2+b5
Severity: important

Freshly installed and unconfigured. 'glcpu' eats 100% CPU, displays
nothing, not even an error message. There's no diagnostic
errors, like:

glcpu: error, no 'statd' server found at localhost 'fubar'. Abort.

...etc...

Close 'glcpu', and as 'root' start 'statd', and start 'glcpu' again; it still
displays nothing while consuming 100% CPU. I made a one line 'glcpurc'
file set to my local host; restarted both 'statd' & 'glcpu'; no change.
Tried running 'statd' as a user, no change.

If it matters, I can run other GLX programs, using:

% lspci | grep -i nvid
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV15DDR [GeForce2 Ti]
(rev a4)

Further investigation:

% strings `which glcpu` | grep statd
Check configuration and that statd is enabled on the hosts.

...so there IS an error message, but it never shows it. Therefore
the current version appears to be broken.

Hope this helps...

Btw. wouldn't it be better to just suggest gconf2 instead of
depending on it? I can not see, that dia really would use gconf.

2008-02-08 Thread A. Costa

On my system 'pdfcube' shows the top half of pages, but there's no keys

2008-02-08 Thread Steve Langasek
reassign 462445 sudo
found 462445 1.6.9p11-1
thanks

This is a sudo bug. The issue is the following code in
auth/pam.c:sudo_conv():

/* Is the sudo prompt standard? (If so, we'l just use PAM's) */
std_prompt =  strncmp(def_prompt, "Password:", 9) == 0 &&
(def_prompt[9] == '\0' ||
(def_prompt[9] == ' ' && def_prompt[10] == '\0'));

This assumes that def_prompt has been initialized before this point, but
this is a static variable which is only initialized in the pam_verify()
function which is only called when authentication is needed.

It's perfectly valid for session modules to call the PAM conversation
function, so that function needs to work whenever pam_open_session() is
called -- not just when PAM is being used for authentication.

Hey whatever works for you. I am a little surprised as this is a relatively
small and totally unintrusive patchset, but that's why there is one maintainer

I suggest something like "compatibility plugin for old SquirrelMail
versions"

...and develop more in the long description, maybe.

What is the proper capitalization of SM?
SquirrelMail or Squirrelmail?

I suggest "spam report plugin for SquirrelMail"

This avoids a verb sentence as synopsis ans also includes
"SquirrelMail" and "plugin" which are keywords for a package short
description of a SM plugin, IMHO.

Yes, libpam always opens /etc/pam.d/other even if it ends up not needing it,
to save a step in figuring out at the time the config is loaded whether all
of the {password, session, auth, account} components are present.

Yes, this is the current version of libpam-modules. That's not the version

Bug#454539: oosplash.bin: oosplash.bin spins at max cpu usage

2008-02-08 Thread Kevin Brown

I'm seeing exactly the same thing, on exactly the same architecture
(x86_64).

I've "fixed" it by replacing oosplash.bin with this simple shell script:

#!/bin/sh

d=`dirname "$0"`
exec "$d"/soffice.bin "$@"

Given that work in this arena is ongoing, and didn't make the cut for
2.5, I'm inclined to wait for this to come down from upstream, rather
than inventing our own solution now.

Bug#464734: topshelf: Does Not Start

2008-02-08 Thread Kripken
David,

Can you please try to run topshelf from the commandline and see what
errors you get? To do so, do

python /usr/lib/gnome-panel/topshelf.py

(assuming it has been installed to the default location). You can also
just run "python topshelf.py" on the unzipped tarball directly.

Please consider reopening this bug: I'm still getting a flickering
screen on my Dell Latitude D420 (no framebuffer on console).

Tell me if you need more info or if I've to try something (same
behaviour occurs if I try git xf86-video-intel-2.2-branch ).

Both of you guys requested this bug to be reopened. But the bug
submitter said the problem was fixed. So you are not experiencing the
same problem, maybe because your hardware is different.

You might want to try
Option "FramebufferCompression" "false"
and look at the following upstream bugs that may be related
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11239
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13326
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13418
If you don't find anybody with your exact problem there, feel free to
open a new bug report (http://bugzilla.freedesktop.org, product xorg,
component Driver/Intel), attach xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log, and tell them
which driver version you are using and when the problem appeared.

Brice

As it doesn't seem to be the same bug as the upstream bugs I opened a new
bug report #14437 at bugzilla.freedesktop.org

Bug#464824: sisu: Conform with Vim addon policy

As of the 1:7.1-022+1 upload of Vim, /usr/share/vim/addons is not

Bug#464817: bicyclerepair: Conform with Vim addon policy

2008-02-08 Thread James Vega
Package: bicyclerepair

The README.Debian and README.vim imply that this plugin is automatically

Since this package is orphaned, I will do a QA upload to fix this issue.

Bug#464815: dia-common on AMD64 sid fails with wrong architecture detected with older libgconf2

Bug#464811: yaskkserv: /etc/init.d/yaskkserv: DICS doesn't work

2008-02-08 Thread Tatsuya Kinoshita
Package: yaskkserv
Version: 0.3.8-1
Severity: normal

In /etc/default/yaskkserv, when the line

DICS="SKK-JISYO.L.yaskkserv SKK-JISYO.zipcode"

is enabled, /etc/init.d/yaskkserv fails as follows:

# /etc/init.d/yaskkserv restart
/etc/init.d/yaskkserv: line 69: [: SKK-JISYO.L.yaskkserv: unary operator
expected
Restarting yaskkserv: yaskkserv.

The cause of this problem is [ $DICS ] in /etc/init.d/yaskkserv.
Please use [ -n "$DICS" ] or so.

BTW, "SKK-JISYO.zipcode" seems to be a typo. Please correct it
to "SKK-JISYO.zipcode.yaskkserv".

Even with "orthogonally" in the mix, that seems redundantly
chatty. Is this right?

Aside, why don't they just say perpendicular? :-) Orthogonal's
shorter to type? Thanks, have fun.

Bug#464628: sometimes 'tweak' bails after "^X w"

2008-02-08 Thread A. Costa
On Fri, 08 Feb 2008 02:44:06 -0500
Daniel Kahn Gillmor <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

> Have you been able to reproduce the error as a non-privileged user?

Not yet, and I've tried. I thought it might be because '/dev/hda'
was 20G, and maybe something got maxed out. But just as you said, the
bug also happens with regular smaller files.

Today I can't get it reproduce as 'root'... no, I had a different size
'xterm':

echo $COLUMNS $LINES
97 32

Stretching the 'xterm' to 99x34 as before, the bug still happens. So
changing the terminal size makes a difference.

This may be related, or might be a separate bug:

As root, when 'tweak' starts we see the first line looks like:

    7F 45 4C 46 01 01 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 .ELF

...the last ".ELF.." part is ASCII, as is common with hex dump programs.
If the width is increased to 24, the first line looks like:

    7F 45 4C 46 01 01 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 00 03 00 01 00
00 00

...there's no ASCII portion. I'd expected the width increase to keep the
ASCII, or
complain.

Press with the width at 24, and 'tweak' fails with:

3 53809 /lib/ld-2.7.so
   bf88e000-bf8a3000 rw-p bffeb000 00:00 0

2008-02-08 Thread Jamie Thompson

I got everything working for me again temporarily by telling saslauthd to use
ldap directly instead of via pam.

Can you tell me how you did that? Thx!

In /etc/default/saaslauthd set your mechanism to "ldap".

You then need to create the file /etc/saslauthd.conf, into which I put:

ldap_servers: ldap://127.0.0.1/
ldap_bind_dn: ...
ldap_bind_pw: ...
ldap_search_base: ou=Accounts,dc=jamie-thompson,dc=co,dc=uk,dc=.

There's a full complement of other settings, but these were enough for me.

That (and the other results) are pretty conclusive: it really is
marked as auto-installed, and so this is a problem with "show".

Bug#464800: nvidia-glx-legacy-71xx: No GLX: "(EE) GLX is not supported with the Composite extension"

2008-02-08 Thread A. Costa
Package: nvidia-glx-legacy-71xx
Version: 71.86.01-1
Severity: important

As shipped, 'nvidia-glx-legacy-71xx' is broken; running a GLX app
(e.g. 'glxgears') will fail with errors like:

Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".

...and '/var/log/Xorg.0.log shows:

(EE) GLX is not supported with the Composite extension

Adding the following to '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' fixes it:

Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Disable"
EndSection

...then restart 'X'. More information here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/restricted-manager/+bug/91064
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia

...and here:

zgrep -A 37 -n "app-u"
/usr/share/doc/nvidia-kernel-legacy-71xx-source/README.gz | tail -n 38 | less

Yet it isn't documented in 'nvidia-glx-legacy-71xx':

% grep -i composite `dlocate -L nvidia-glx-legacy-71xx` 2> /dev/null
Binary file /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.so matches
Binary file /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so.71.86.01 matches
Binary file /usr/lib/libXvMCNVIDIA.so.71.86.01 matches
Binary file /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so matches

Suggested fixes:

1) An install script can check 'xorg.conf', and if necessary add the
   needed config line.

2) Failing that, document the problem, and the above fix. Perhaps
with an installer that checks 'xorg.conf' then issues a warning
   if necessary.

Hope this helps...

I've looked deeper into this, and find that this is not a regression. The
ldapsearch from OpenLDAP 2.3 linked against OpenSSL would also abort the
connection if given a certificate that didn't match the requested hostname.

If you (or someone else) think this behavior is wrong, please file a
separate bug report; otherwise I defer to the existing upstream behavior.

And this one is now fixed in subversion.

Bug#464797: tightvnc: FTBFS on Arm

2008-02-08 Thread Paul Brook
Package: tightvnc
Version: 1.2.9-21
Severity: important

Justification: fails to build from source

Package fails to build on ARM. Looks like confusion between
Arm32Architecture and ArmArchitecture in the configure scripts.

Patch below fixes the system detection file to generate the defines that
the rest of the config is expecting.

Thanks for the reply. Here is the chain of links:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ll /usr/lib/libmpi.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 2008-02-09 01:56 /usr/lib/libmpi.so ->

/usr/lib/openmpi/lib/libmpi_f77.so.0.0.0
/usr/lib/openmpi/lib/libmpi_f90.so.0.0.0
[...]

So only the file:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls /usr/lib/openmpi/lib/libmpi.so.0.0.0
/usr/lib/openmpi/lib/libmpi.so.0.0.0

is installed. Any ideas why is it so? I think it could be some left
over, I know I had similar problems before. The solution was to
uninstall everything (I did try this), and then remove some links
using update-alternatives (I didn't try this yet).

Well, I forgot to mention this package in my list of bugs! :-)

Anyway, this is fixed in SVN, and the upload should happen as soon as
lapack hits testing.

From: Jim Breen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Subject: EDICT, KANJIDIC, etc. licence & Debian
To: Kobayashi Noritada <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Greetings,

Some one pointed out to me the Debian bug report at
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=445020

I have upgraded the licence statement for those files to
use CC by-sa 3.0, and also added the version number. I think that
meets your suggestions.

Best wishes

Bug#464796: ia32-libs: building i386 libraries

2008-02-08 Thread Javier Serrano Polo
Package: ia32-libs
Severity: wishlist

Dear ia32-libs maintainers,

I've been working in some scripts that do as follows:

  * grab a requested i386 package
  * get the libraries and relevant documentation from the package
  * adjust dependencies
  * build an amd64 package

This is intended for libraries. A variant allows to repackage
applications, though I prefer to compile them with the repackaged
libraries.
Resulting packages are free from the ia32-libs dependency.

I've been able to build zsnes, nspluginwrapper, fenix and wine (full
version). I've also tried a repackaged zsnes.

These scripts need to be improved of course and I'll be working on them.
Please let me know if you're interested in integrating this into Debian.

Bye.

It seems it's not spamassassin, but your syslog which makes Lire choke.

Please try to run:

 while read wday month day time year pid level rest;
 do
  echo $month $day $time localhost spamassassin$pid $rest;
 done < /var/log/spamd/spamd.log | lr_log2report spamassassin > spam

.

This would mangle your syslog stuff to a more common format, likely
understandable by Lire.

Please report if this helps.

Thanks, Bye,

Joost

Bug#366507: Pcmcia cardbus disabled

2008-02-08 Thread dean yesDEAN
Hi,

Sorry, it's difficult to get information across. Getting back into machines,
and things are either too old and/or too broken, and/or not set up yet.
Was hoping on getting past the live cd stage, but networking is cardbus. :-(

-

knoppix is using apm, which seems to work (acpi is better on a 770z, it is
said).
Still have to figure out acpi, and what's installed, and... debain seems to try
acpi.

I have the problem on a ThinkPad 770z. Works fine with knoppix 5.0.1:

Ok, I can reproduce this problem. There are two remaining issues here, that
I can see:

- the behavior of "TLS_REQCERT allow" appears to be equivalent to
"TLS_REQCERT try" in its handling of wrong certificates
- with GnuTLS, subjectAltName values are not being validated properly

I'll have a look at both of these issues.

It's on all of my computers. Some misconfiguration of update-alternatives on my

Bug#464793: xserver-xorg-video-intel: VT switching after using OpenGL and second display produces system freeze

2008-02-08 Thread Soenke
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.2.0.90-3
Severity: important

Hi everyone,

the following problem came up with the xorg intel driver:

When using an external monitor on my laptop (switching it on and off with
xrandr) as well as glxgears or keyjnote (both OpenGL apps), the system will
sometimes freeze (black screen, no ssh, no alt+sysrq, just power off) on
switching to a virtual console.

Steps to reproduce:

- connect external monitor
- use xrandr --output VGA --same-as LVDS or --left-of LVDS to activate
  external display
- open glxgears or keyjnote (haven't tried any other apps yet)
- close glxgears
- optional: switch off external monitor
- switch to VT

Reproducibility:

Seems random. Sometimes VT switching works for many cycles of
switching VGA on and off, using glxgears/keyjnote and/or XVideo and even
suspending to ram
in the meantime. Sometimes not.

If more info is needed, I shall gladly try to supply it. I will be testing the
most recent git snapshot next.

Regards,

Soenke

P.S.: Xorg.0.log is from freshly started server, Xorg.0.log.old from crashed
server

phpldapadmin now just presents me with a blank page. No errors, nada.

If I look at the logs the request are going through, and if I stick a print
statement I get the expected headers warnigns. Likewise, if I rename the config
file it tells me I need to configure it, so I'm not entirely sure where to go
from here.

Bug#455283: It works for me.

2008-02-08 Thread Raúl Sánchez Siles
  Hello:

I don't know about you for me flash is working correctly on amd64 and almost
correctly on i386.

I have kdelibs and kdebase 4:3.5.8.dfsg.1-7 on unstable with
flashplugin-nonfree 1.1.3.

I would like to hear any feedback to check if this is finally solved.

BTW, I've known that upstream included a yet newer patch solving some minor
issues, maybe we could see it on 3.5.8..dfsg.1-8

  Thanks.

Bug#464787: status:open seems to miss forwarded bugs

2008-02-08 Thread Joey Hess
Package: devscripts
Version: 2.10.15
Severity: normal

Subject is just a guess about why "bts select src:xgalaga status:open"
does not list #149743, which has this state as I write this:

Forwarded bugs -- Normal bugs (1 bug)

  • #149743: xgalaga starts when i want to turn sounds off
Package: xgalaga (2.0.34-18); Reported by: "Matus \"fantomas\" Uhlar"
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Forwarded to [EMAIL PROTECTED]; 5 years and 242 days
old; Modified 5 years and 242 days ago.

And thus why tagpending refuses to tag it:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~package/xgalaga>tagpending
Warning: #149743 is closed or does not belong to this package (check bug no. or
force).

Hmm, yep, it shows up as forwarded:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~>bts select src:xgalaga status:forwarded
149743

So tagpending should check for both open and forwarded bugs then.

Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I fought with initramfs-tools for some time because I had not noticed
the warning in the man page that script names must match
[a-zA-Z0-9_]+. (I admit I don't read entire man pages when I just need
to quickly check how to do something.)

So I had a script named
/etc/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-premount/tuxonice-resume, and had
to scratch my head for a while when it was silently ignored by the
initrd creation process (I think even -v didn't say anything about
it).

I don't know if there's another purpose for the restriction besides
ignoring backup files, but perhaps at least emitting a warning when
ignoring a script which doesn't match a known backup file pattern
(i.e. something like *~ and *.bak) would spare some time for others
who have yet to hit this issue without, I hope, being too invasive.

Regards,

Sami

Since this is an orphaned package you are of course free to do a QA
upload yourself :)

Or would you prefer someone else taking care of that?

It appears that this bug has not actually been fixed. The package is
failing to build on all the autobuilders, with the same error as before.
The problem is this:

@@ -26,6 +26,7 @@

 config.status: configure
dh_testdir
+ export CFLAGS
# Add here commands to configure the package.
./configure --host=$(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE) --build=$(DEB_BUILD_GNU_TYPE) \

This only exports a value of CFLAGS that is already set as a shell variable,
but CFLAGS is only being set as a *make* variable. What you need to do is
this:

 CFLAGS = -Wall -g -DLDAP_DEPRECATED
 export CFLAGS

I assume this worked for you when building locally because you set this
variable while testing the package, polluting your build env and hiding this
error.

Bug#462882: Sending ObjC messages on the gdb prompt fails with syntax error

2008-02-08 Thread David Ayers

David Ayers schrieb:

OK, I've now tried gdb-trunk and gdb-6.5 on both Etch and Lenny. Both
gdb's fail to detect ObjC files on Lenny yet succeed on Etch. Therefor
it seems that gdb proper is not responsible for the issue and this bug
report most likely belongs to a different package.

Since the gcc packages in Lenny have been updated since the report I
rebuilt the ObjC code. Yet to no avail. Next I'll try to test some
older versions of GCC to try to identify the culprit as time permits.

But I'd like to keep this bug report open until we can point to the real
issue (and a new bug report).

Cheers,
David

Bug#464786: gtkpbbuttons sometimes prevents audio from working (makes /dev/dsp busy)

2008-02-08 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: gtkpbbuttons
Version: 0.6.9-1
Severity: normal

Each time I tried to play audio (ogg stream), I got an error. For
instance, with ogg123:

ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:866:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
ALSA snd_pcm_open error: Device or resource busy
Error: Cannot open device alsa.

I tried other devices, like oss, and still got an error. Ditto with
VLC using esd (/dev/dsp: Device or resource busy). I saw with lsof
that gtkpbbuttons was using /dev/dsp0. I killed the process... and
alsa and esd now work again.

Note: I restarted gtkpbbuttons and no longer have this problem. So, it
seems that under some conditions, gtkpbbuttons is locking /dev/dsp.

The attached patch seems to fix it. Reviewing the example test-clock.log
file gives exactly the expected results: RTC slow by -1000 PPM,
suggested adjustment +86.4 secs/day.

| $ adjtimex --review=test-clocks.log

|sys_error = 0 +- 10 ppm
| (no suggestion)
| current tick = 1 freq = 0
| note: clock variations and unstated data errors may mean that the
| least squares solution has a bigger error than estimated here

However the same half-way calculation (giving -999.5 instead of -999 or
-1000) exists also in two other places, for sys_error, and for sys-cmos
difference. I suspect it may require a review by someone who understands
the math.

Bug#464779: Versioned symbols should be dropped, and libcurl3-gnutls/openssl packages should be replacing each other

2008-02-08 Thread Mike Hommey
Package: curl
Version: 7.18.0-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

It seems to me, but you can correct me if I'm wrong, that nowadays, the
https/ssl API in curl is backend agnostic, i.e. the API and ABI is the
same between libcurl-gnutls and libcurl-openssl. Which means
applications building against libcurl, whatever license they are
released in, use a standard ABI that can be provided at runtime by any
of these 2 packages. Reverse dependencies could then depend on a virtual
libcurl3 package that would be provided by both.

And not depending on a specific backend using incompatible license,
rdepends licensed under the GPL without openssl exception should be
distributable just fine.

I see amd64 has given these warnings already in ELinks 0.11.3,
but there they didn't break the build, because configure was not
run with --enable-debug and so it did not add -Werror to $CFLAGS.
Please try the appended patch.

There has been a similar warning in src/network/ssl/socket.c, at
the gnutls_transport_set_ptr call. That could also be silenced
with an extra cast, but this would in principle also require
changing the code that converts the pointer back to an integer,
and I can't find where that happens, so I'm not changing it now.
Perhaps there is no such code and the call could just be removed.
