Hi

Thanks a lot for the patch. I'll apply it and see if I can apply it
to "upstream" as well.

Best regards,

Do you have multiple outpus connected enabled when the crash happens? It
seems to be related in some cases.

Does
Option "FramebufferCompression" "false"
help?

Can you try with some other kernels? I sometimes felt like 2.6.18 didn't
cause any crash while >=2.6.22 does. Not sure about 2.6.24 or later.

Bug#466508: Package description makes 'ntop' sound like 'top' type console util.

2008-02-18 Thread A. Costa
Package: ntop
Version: 3:3.2-10.1
Severity: normal

The package description sounds like a console util:

% dlocate -s ntop | grep -A 5 Desc
Description: display network usage in top-like format
ntop is a Network Top program. It displays a summary of network usage by
machines on your network in a format reminiscent of the unix top utility.

It can also be run in web mode, which allows the display to be browsed with
a web browser.

Particularly "can also be run in web mode", which implies its usual
interface is not web mode. Yet 'man ntop' says a browser is needed:

% man ntop | grep -n -A 1 -m 1 browser
46:   stand-alone collector/display program.  A  web  browser  is
needed  to
47- access the information captured by the ntop program.

Hope this helps...

Bug#466507: 'man ntop' vagueness: 'the URL to access ntop is http://hostname:3000/'

2008-02-18 Thread A. Costa
Package: ntop
Version: 3:3.2-10.1
Severity: normal

% man ntop | grep -C 1 -in "http://hostname:3000/";
496-For example, if started with -w 3000 (the default port), the
URL to

498-cation,   e.g.   -w   192.168.1.1:3000,  ntop  listens  on
only  that

Line #497 is puzzling. I'm guessing 'hostname' is a dummy variable,
because it doesn't work as a literal. Yet the text refers to it
as though it were a literal, ("_the_ URL...").

I'd include a patch, but am uncertain as to the intended meaning:

1) "the URL format to access ntop is http://hostname:3000/, where "hostname"
   is the system's name, e.g. http://192.168.1.1:3000.

2) "the URL to access ntop is http://localhost:3000/";

...or something else? Most users would prefer #2, because (in most
xterms) they can click on the URL to open it.

Hope this helps...

Thanks, applying to svn.

Of course, the reason we didn't send out a call for translations is because
these are only draft debconf prompts, a stopgap fix for a regression in the
wild. So you may get an email soon enough asking for another translation
update :/

Hmmm... I didn't notice that's the same kind of error.
However, I wonder why the second one doesn't happen if I build from
amd64.tar.lzma.uu

I guess I should add :

We currently do not specially deal with bugs that have been filed
against a particular Source: package as opposed to a particular binary
Package:. In the future this will probably change, but for the time
being, that's how it works.

Sorry about the delay, I was offline for some time.

You are absolutely right, the $domain is read from /etc/mailname in my
installation, by a custom php function that did not chop() the return
value. If I do, it works. This is entirely my fault.

Please accept my apologies and close this bug.

I've just tried adding the URL
http://rss.cnn.com/rss/cnn_specialvideo.rss and it works for me in the
development version. Please try out the development version by following
the instructions on this wiki page:

   http://wiki.gpodder.org/running-from-svn

For 0.10.4, please also post the console output of running "gpodder
--verbose".

Does running the development version fix your problem? What is the
output of running "gpodder --verbose" with 0.10.4?

Bug#466503: dbus: Fail to remove stop scripts for runlevel 0 and 6 with file-rc and insserv

2008-02-18 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package:  dbus
Version:  1.1.4-1
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: incorrect-dependency

When upgrading dbus using dependency based boot sequencing, I noticed
this output:

  Fixing up dbus startup script runlevels and priorities...
  insserv: Warning, current stop runlevel(s) of script `dbus' (0 1 6 )
overwrites defaults (1 ).

Checking the symlinks, the runlevels 0 and 6 were indeed still linked
up, while they were no longer listed in the LSB header.

I then had a look at the postinst script, and found this code:

echo "Fixing up dbus startup script runlevels and priorities..." >&2
# update start scripts to use the proper priority
for l in 2 3 4 5; do
old=/etc/rc$l.d/S20dbus
new=/etc/rc$l.d/S12dbus
if [ -e $old ] && ! [ -e $new ]; then
mv -vf $old $new >&2
fi
done
# drop stop scripts in runlevels we don't install anymore
for l in 0 6; do
if [ -L /etc/rc$l.d/K20dbus ] && \
   [ "../init.d/dbus"  = "$(readlink /etc/rc$l.d/K20dbus)" ]; then
rm -vf /etc/rc$l.d/K20dbus >&2
fi
done
# update stop script to use the proper priority
if [ -e /etc/rc1.d/K20dbus ] && ! [ -e /etc/rc1.d/K88dbus ]; then
mv -vf /etc/rc1.d/K20dbus /etc/rc1.d/K88dbus >&2
fi

This code seem to assume that plain sysv-rc is used, and will fail
with file-rc as well as dependency based boot sequencing with insserv.
file-rc do not use these symlinks, and insserv will use different
sequence numbers.

In short, this way of updating the boot sequence do not work properly
in Debian. To get it working with insserv, one would need to not use
hardcoded sequence numbers. To get it working with file-rc, one would
need to use the features provided by update-rc.d. As far as I know,
the only working way to update the start and stop sequence in Debian
is to remove them all and insert them again.

Happy hacking,

It has not been added.
To be honest, I am surprised that anyone is still asking for it.
If you do use a "real" ftp proxy, it should be sufficient to use the
login and fqdn parameters. If you intend to use it with ftp-over-http
proxying, that would need a very different implementation (using the
http upload method), but I'm not sure whether any proxy supports that.

Which of the two would you need?

Kind regards

Bug#466502: xfce4-sensors-plugin: shows "0" for fan speed until move is moved over

2008-02-18 Thread Tino Keitel
Package: xfce4-sensors-plugin
Version: 0.10.99.4~svn-r3775-1
Severity: normal

On my Mac mini Core Duo, I use the applesmc driver to gather sensor
information. The sensors output looks like this:

$ sensors
coretemp-isa-
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 0:  +44.0°C  (crit = +100.0°C)

coretemp-isa-0001
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 1:  +41.0°C  (crit = +100.0°C)

applesmc-isa-0300
Adapter: ISA adapter
Master :1806 RPM  (min = 1500 RPM)
temp1:   +49.0°C
temp2:   +49.0°C

In the Xfce sensors plugin, the fan speed was shown with "0" after login.
However, the fan is always running with at least 1500 rpm.

The update interval is set to 30 seconds, and the 0 was shown for several
minutes after the login.

Then I moved the mouse over the sensor plugin display, and the fan speed was
immediately updated to the correct value.

Bug#466085: education-astronomy: Package uninstallable : "err 67: Custom distribution education does not exist"

2008-02-18 Thread Andreas Tille

On Mon, 18 Feb 2008, Fabrice Lorrain wrote:

I could. But I don't think it would made any difference.

Well, the problem occured with 0.824 which was different from 0.825.
In principle 0.825 should work _with_ and _without_ cdd-common - provided
that cdd-common is cleanly installed.

No, the pb was there before I installed cdd-common.

Which is not astonishing because 0.824 was broken and at least
according to your bug report you tried to install this and failed.
So you have some broken packages on your system and I would like
to make sure that this does not cause the trouble.

This where the trouble is :

$ ls -l /etc/cdd/
total 4
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 425 oct 23  2006 cdd.conf

and education-astronomy is clearly expecting something here.

Well, the postins says:

   if [ -d /etc/cdd -a -f /etc/cdd/cdd.conf ] ; then
  ...

so _if_ (and _only_ _if_) cdd-common is installed (/etc/cdd/cdd.conf
is part of this package) this is doing anything. So if you want to
solve your problem for the moment, just deinstall cdd-common (renaming/
removing /etc/cdd/cdd.conf might help as well)

Is a "mkdir /etc/cdd/education" a correct way to fix it or is there some
better way.

No, it will not really help. You might do this but then you will need
most probably /etc/cdd/education/education.conf as well. Currently the
only reason for these config files is to organise user-menus. If you
like to test this feature you might like to copy the file /etc/cdd/med/med.conf
from med-common or /etc/cdd/science/science.conf into this place.

So if you want to solve the installation problem you should either
purge cdd-common or move /etc/cdd/cdd.conf to a different place.

But you are right there is a remaining problem in the education-*
packages because the code in postinst/postrm file is duplicated
(which is no harm if there is no /etc/cdd/cdd.conf file at all)
and I go back to the next cycle of fixing cdd-dev to fit the need
of Debian-Edu.

Kind regards

 Andreas.

Sorry, but that's suboptimal. And completely wasted effort, imho.

APT translators should work on the bzr repository. Sure that isn't as
fancy as Rosetta, but this is how their translation work will be used.

From what I know, translation work done in Rosetta is ignored and not
used in APT packages.

And, unless Rosetta becomes free software, there is no chance that I,
as APT i18n "helper", do any effort to sync translations from Rosetta
to the development repository.

The same stands for any other l10n effort done in Rosetta for other
languages. The only chance for translators to get their translation
for APT to be used is by reporting it as a bug report in Debian
BTS. So, sure, they can work in Rosetta but then someone has to take
care to report translation back to Debian (*and* check that the
l10n effort is not already managed by someone in Debian: I would for
instance veto any French translation coming from Rosetta).

I encountered the following problem on 2 systems, that were upgraded
several times from older debian stable releases and used custom compiled
kernels before.
apt-get install linux-image-2.6.18-6-686 aborted after the preinst
script with the message 'Ok, Aborting'
The reason was a missing 'do_initrd = Yes' statement in
/etc/kernel-img.conf and debconf set to Noninteractive. After changing
debconf to Dialog it was obvious what was missing.
Additional information instead of only 'Ok, Aborting' would be nice (and
would shorten the time to find the configuration error ;-)

2008-02-18 Thread Frédéric Brière
Package: git-cvs
Version: 1:1.5.4.1-1

After having cleaned up an imported CVS repo, deleting branches that
have been merged back (and one or two that had been created by mistake),
I tried running cvsimport again. I was a bit surprised to see it
recreate all the branches I had deleted (though I can understand why it
would do so).

The real issue, though, is that cvsimport re-creates these old branches
over the *current* state of the parent branch. (Moving tags in the
process, which is the one area in git where fixing mistakes is a PITA.)

Seems to me that cvsimport should check the timestamps and/or patchset
numbers, and either refuse to create an older commit from a newer one,
or perform a checkout to the appropriate branch point beforehand.

Would be nice if you could attach such a broken file to the bug
report :)

You could for example create a test file via
gst-launch-0.10 audiotestsrc num-buffers=1000 ! lame ! filesink
location=test.mp3

Then use easytag to add tags to that file and then

gst-launch-0.10 filesrc location=test.mp3 ! decodebin ! lame ! id3mux !
filesink location=test2.mp3

to create a test2.mp3 with the tags you set in easytag, but written by
id3mux.

This works fine for me btw... could you please give the output of
"locale" too?

Bye

Please note somewhere that this kernel only works as a domU kernel, and
not as a dom0 kernel. Yes, if someone is familiar with xen then it'll be
obvious, but it kinda sucks to have to stare at the screen of xen
hanging when trying to boot the kernel as dom0, because no error message
is provided.

apt-cache doesn't show any info about this, and neither does
/usr/share/doc/.

Severity: serious

Dear Maintainer,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a package that
should maybe be orphaned by its maintainer, because:

* Maintainer seems inactive. Last upload by maintainer was 2001. (Two
NMUs since, last one in 2006).

* New upstream has existed since 2003.
* I am unable to find an upstream source.
* Package is severely out of date.

If you think that it should be removed from Debian instead of being
orphaned, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
close this bug and do an upload also fixing the other issues.
Also, you can study the possibility of taking co-maintainers.

If you agree that it should be orphaned, send the following commands

Thanks. As you said the haskell-indent code is complex and I really
don't want to make it even more so. So I'll have to spend a lot more
time looking at your patch and trying to see how to fold it into the
code without making the code more complex.

Yes, this is a known problem. Fixing it will require some care because
as you noted the special syntax-table settings are used at various
places in haskell-mode.

Bug#466487: libauthen-smb-perl: should this package be orphaned or removed?

2008-02-18 Thread Barry deFreese

Package: libauthen-smb-perl
Version: 0.91-3
Severity: serious
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: proposed-orphan

Dear Maintainer,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a package that
should maybe be orphaned by its maintainer, because:

* Maintainer seems inactive. Last upload was 2004.
* RC bug older than 60 days.
* I am unable to find an upstream source. I have searched CPAN and with google.
* Package is severely out of date.
* Popcon of 82.

If you think that it should be removed from Debian instead of being
orphaned, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
close this bug and do an upload also fixing the other issues.
Also, you can study the possibility of taking co-maintainers.

If you agree that it should be orphaned, send the following commands
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (replace nn with this bug's number):

reassign nn wnpp
retitle nn O:  --

If you think it should be removed, send the following commands instead:

reassign nn ftp.debian.org
retitle nn RM:  -- RoM;

Bug#466486: can't prevent indenting at newline when pasting

2008-02-18 Thread Drew Parsons
Package: jed
Version: 1:0.99.18+dfsg.1-9
Severity: normal

I use jed from a X terminal. When I copy&paste with the mouse, the
text gets indented with each newline.

This problem is addressed in /usr/share/doc/jed/README.Debian, with a
variety of solutions offered.

A2: Temporarily change the keybinding by doing:
  1. M-X local_setkey("newline","^M")

- this does work, thanks. But it's inconvenient to set manually like
this each time.

A3: Bind "newline_and_indent" to a different key. In jed.rc do e.g.:
 setkey("newline_and_indent", "\e^M");   % Key_Alt_Return
  setkey("newline", "^M");
A4: Use the fact that Jed can tell whether there is
input pending after the carriage return. Define in your jed.rc (or any
other file evaluated at startup):
 public define newline_indent ()
  {
 if (input_pending(0))
   newline();
  else
  call ("newline_and_indent");
 }
  setkey("newline_indent","^M");

Neither of these solutions A3 or A4 work. I've tried placing either
of them in ~/.jedrc, moving that to ~/.jed/jed.rc, copying it to
/etc/jed.d/99newline-noindent.sl.  Nothing works.

Could you review these instructions in README.Debian to confirm if
they are still valid, and provide corrected instructions?

Thanks,
Drew

Bug#466485: uqm: manual is now impossible to find

2008-02-18 Thread Drake Wilson
Package: uqm
Version: 0.6.2.dfsg-5
Severity: wishlist

I see that the non-DFSG-free content for Ur-Quan Masters is mostly
available at http://uqm.debian.net/. I also see that the manual is
non-DFSG-free, and is therefore part of the upstream distribution but
not the Debian package in main. This is good. However, I also see
that the manual does not appear to be distributed at the secondary
repository either, nor in the primary non-free APT repository (there
is no "uqm-doc" package or similar that I can detect). I also see
that there is no indication in the package description of where to get
the manual, nor anything in /usr/share/doc/uqm about it; the closest
thing I can find is a description in the changelog that says that the
manual was removed, and (if you read it carefully enough) lets you
know implicitly that you have to go to upstream in order to find it.

This would be okay if there were enough in-game help to be able to
tell what anything means, but there is not, creating an unintended and
frustrating metagame. "You have been placed in command of a small set
of spaceships, with no memory of how any of the controls work or what
your mission is..." Finding the manual on the Web took several steps
and blind alleys, because it only seems to appear inside the upstream
sources.  This is not optimal.

I would suggest putting the manual into a secondary uqm-doc package in
non-free, if possible, and mentioning this in the uqm package
description. (GFDL'd docs and the like have precedent for being moved
to non-free rather than removed entirely, at least. I don't know
whether CC-BY 2.0 is acceptable for non-free or not.)

Bug#466482: Locales: es_CR.UTF-8 lacks 12-hour format in LC_TIME

2008-02-18 Thread Niko Cavallini Araya
Package: locales
Version: 2.7-8
Severity: normal

Hi my current locale es_CR.UTF-8 lacks 12-hour format definition in LC_TIME.
This is needed by the clock applet in gnome-panel to provide the option to
allow 12-hour clock format. Reading (1) it is said that the format definition
in en_GB could be used instead. AM/PM are the correct ways to specify 12-hour
format.

So I edited two lines in /usr/share/i18n/locales/es_CR
LC_TIME
...
am_pm   "";""
t_fmt_ampm
""
...

Then regenerated the locales and the problem was fixed.

This could also be usefull for other spanish locales.

Please consider this change.

Hmm, looks like that one could be a missing build dependency, which
means there's at least *one* thing I might be able to do something
about... So, try installing lib32z1-dev, what happens then?

(In principle Wine should not have to build-depend on that, the freetype

there's no way to achieve that easily...)

Bug#466481: RFA: dirdiff -- Display and merge changes between two directory trees.

2008-02-18 Thread Steve M. Robbins
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

The package is very stable: last upstream release was > 2 years ago.
But there are a couple of bugs that could be addressed by someone with
interest and proficiency in tcl. I lack both, so I hereby request an
adopter for the dirdiff package.

The package description is:
 Dirdiff can handle up to 5 trees. It displays a main window with a
 list of the files which are different between the trees, with colored
 squares to indicate the relative ages of the versions. A menu allows
 you to display the differences between any two of the versions in
 another window. Another menu allows you to copy the file from one
 tree to another.

The only place in the source code that any jade command is called is
in doc/docbook/Makefile.jade, which is not used by defualt (Makefile.in
is), so I don't see how this could possibly fail. Are you using that
Makefile.jade instead?

I cannot reproduce this, and will probably close this report in few

The current plan is to stablise the 3.1 packages, then figure out a
transition plan from dhcp3 named packages to just dhcp-named packages. Once
that is done, I'll consider packaging version 4.

Yes: ftplib3 and falconseye-data.

OK, I can guess where this is going: the report lists orphaned SOURCE
packages for which I have at least one BINARY package installed.

Consider this, instead, a request that the output be enhanced to
show (optionally?) the binary packages currently installed.

Thanks,

That's interdiff reporting a problem.
diffstat isn't part of interdiff.

If you run

diffstat \
nagios-plugins_1.4-6sarge2.diff.gz \
nagios-plugins_1.4-6sarge1.diff.gz

it'll read both files and print out the sum of the two.

Assign it back to dselect. As noted in the dependencies, it's linked
with libncurses rather than libncursesw.

Bug#443935: The 2nd Debian Openoffice.org bug triage - bug #443935

Dear Lior,

thanks a lot for your efforts with OpenOffice.

Although I now can display the japanese characters correctly in
OpenOffice, I am not sure that it is because of a change of the
openoffice.org packages or because I added an extra font package.

I would recommend to open in a fresh install the .odt file that I
attached earlier in this bug report. If OpenOffice displays boxes while
Nautilus displays the characters correctly (they were pasted in the bug
report), then I would say that there is a problem somewhere. Otherwise,
I think that we can close this bug.

I may have an opportunity to do this test this week-end. If not, do not
hesitate to ping me later.

Have a nice day,

Bug#466477: libgnutls26: Failure to talk with IBM ldap/http servers

2008-02-18 Thread Richard A Nelson
Package: libgnutls26
Version: 2.2.1-3

linked against the gnutls library.

While investigating why my slapd ldap caching wasn't working - and
remote ldap authentication started failing, I found this in the
ldapsearch debug output:
TLS: can't connect: A TLS packet with unexpected length was received..

To isolate the problem source, I installed gnutls-bin and compared
gnutlts-cli and openssl s_client output:

Bug#460503: sox: Similar, but maybe not quite identical problem

2008-02-18 Thread Greg Kochanski
Package: sox
Version: 14.0.0-5
Followup-For: Bug #460503

For me, too, sox fails to play anything.
This is a .wav file that plays via aplay and also plays via sox on an old
RedHat installation.

$ play data/BP.wav
play soxio: Failed reading `data/BP.wav': unknown file type `auto'
$ file data/BP.wav
data/BP.wav: RIFF (little-endian) data, WAVE audio, Microsoft PCM, 16 bit, mono
16000 Hz
$

However, this fails:
$ sox data/BP.wav -t alsa default
sox soxio: Failed reading `data/BP.wav': unknown file type `auto'
$ sox -t .wav data/BP.wav default
sox soxio: Failed reading `data/BP.wav': unknown file type `wav'
$

This fails with and without the libsox-fmt-ao package installed.

However, unexpectedly, I note that libsox-fmt-base was not installed(!).
Certainly, it's not something I ever removed.

Install that, though, and I get the older problems:
$ play data/BP.wav
play soxio: Failed writing `default': unknown file type `ao'
$

And, when I finally install libsox-fmt-ao,
then it actually works!

So, clearly, there are dependency problems associated with sox.

Bug#446080: vim-latexsuite: Broken items in addon registry

2008-02-18 Thread Mike Fogel
uhm, this bug makes the default install and configuration of
vim-latexsuite not work. Shouldn't this bug be "important" not normal?
 I see it hasn't been fixed in sid yet. And this was reported 4 months
ago.

The patch:

in /usr/share/vim/registry/vim-latexsuite.yaml

remove the lines:

  - ftplugin/tex/brackets.vim
  - ftplugin/tex/texviewer.vim

that's it...

Thanks.

Strange, not happenning here (in an etch box with tons of dict-common
backports). Will try in a real sid tomorrow.

If possible, please provide as much info as possible, locale, debdiff

I apologize because this patch includes *two* security patches:
- [jan] SECURITY: Fix privilege escalation in Horde API => from 2.1.6
- [cjh] SECURITY: Fix unchecked access to contacts in the same
  SQL table (Bug #6208). => from 2.1.7 (patch spoken in this thread)

For 2.0.2, I include one more security patch:
- [cjh] Close several XSS vulnerabilities with address book and
  contact data. => from 2.0.5

For easy reviewing, I include comments in my patches like:

// backport security patch from Turba 2.*.*

Yes, they started the process of creating one. We're waiting it.

Bug#466474: can't use anjuta with non-gnome projects

2008-02-18 Thread jasen
Package: anjuta
Version: 2:2.2.3-3
Severity: important

Previously I was using anjuta (version 1.x) (mainly as an editor) with GTK+
projects that
were built using SCons. SCons was chosen over autotools as I could not convince
the
latter to build GTK+ programs using mingw32 (windows cross compiler debian
package)

now Anjuta refuses to touch the projects :(
"Cannot find a valid project backend" - whaever that means.
and something about "Gnome Build Framework" which doesn't seem to be a
debain package...

Bug#465816: Setting the interface to half-duplex fails

Adam Karkowski wrote:

I've seen a few similar reports in the past couple of days. Setting the
adapter in half-duplex mode seems to fix it, at least for some people.
I'm working on cleaning up the code stylistically for upstream 2.6.26
right now, but my test hardware should arrive next week, and then I'll
really be able to dig into this. Please use ethtool to put the adapter
in half-duplex mode, and let me know if that does or does not fix it.

-- Chris

I tried setting the interface to half-duplex but it stubbornly refused to let
me. The problem, as well, persists. From my xconsole:

Feb 19 10:29:30 hades sudo:  adz : TTY=pts/0 ; PWD=/home/adz ; USER=root ;
COMMAND=/usr/sbin/ethtool -s eth1 duplex half
Feb 19 10:29:30 hades kernel: ATL2: eth1 NIC Link is Up<100 Mbps Full Duplex>

Feb 19 10:31:41 hades kernel: txd read ptr: 0x135c
Feb 19 10:31:41 hades kernel: txs-behind:0x800102ab
Feb 19 10:31:41 hades kernel: txs-before:0x000105be

Note that regardless of whether I set it to full or half, the driver responds with "ATL2:
eth1 NIC Link is Up<100 Mbps Full Duplex>". Similarly, trying to change the speed
does nothing:

Feb 19 10:43:04 hades sudo:  adz : TTY=pts/0 ; PWD=/home/adz ; USER=root ;
COMMAND=/usr/sbin/ethtool -s eth1 speed 10
Feb 19 10:43:04 hades kernel: ATL2: eth1 NIC Link is Up<100 Mbps Full Duplex>

Note the requested speed (10) and what the driver responds with (100). So, I
decided to change what the driver advertises to 100/half-duplex:

Feb 19 10:44:00 hades sudo:  adz : TTY=pts/0 ; PWD=/home/adz ; USER=root ;
COMMAND=/usr/sbin/ethtool -s eth1 advertise 0x004
Feb 19 10:44:04 hades sudo:  adz : TTY=pts/0 ; PWD=/home/adz ; USER=root ;
COMMAND=/usr/sbin/ethtool -s eth1 duplex half
Feb 19 10:45:28 hades sudo:  adz : TTY=pts/0 ; PWD=/home/adz ; USER=root ;
COMMAND=/usr/sbin/ethtool -s eth1 advertise 0x008
Feb 19 10:45:28 hades kernel: ATL2: eth1 NIC Link is Up<100 Mbps Full Duplex>
Feb 19 10:45:33 hades sudo:  adz : TTY=pts/0 ; PWD=/home/adz ; USER=root ;
COMMAND=/usr/sbin/ethtool -s eth1 advertise 0x004
Feb 19 10:45:41 hades sudo:  adz : TTY=pts/0 ; PWD=/home/adz ; USER=root ;
COMMAND=/usr/sbin/ethtool -s eth1 advertise 0x008
Feb 19 10:45:41 hades kernel: ATL2: eth1 NIC Link is Up<100 Mbps Full Duplex>

As you can see, no error (no ouput of any kind), but the interface stops
working altogether. Normalcy is only restored when I set it back to
100/full-duplex (0x008).

Crap. Clearly waiting for 2.6.26 is not viable here. I'll post a fix on my
site as soon as I have one, and send an announcement to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] I suggest you subscribe:

https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/atl2-test

PS: I decided NOT to wrap this email to a sensible width so that the xconsole
messages will survive intact.

Thank you.

Bug#340373: spellcheck should allow use of fallback language

2008-02-18 Thread Drew Parsons
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1:2.3.1-4
Followup-For: Bug #340373

Now that #227655 is fixed, we do have an Australian dictionary, so my
own documents are happy. I therefore do not need the fallback
mechanism myself.

I'll leave this bug open however for other environments, since the
fallback mechanism exists in /etc/openoffice/dictionary.lst but is not
automated. For instance I see there still isn't a Canadian English
dictionary (there is a South African one). Would Indians like an en IN
option? Do Latin Americans get es ES ?

The open question then is whether the OpenOffice developers think it's
reasonable for users to manually add the fallback to
/etc/openoffice/dictionary.lst, in the way which Gary explained.

Or would it be a better solution to allow this to be managed in
software as part of the OpenOffice UI, or at least as a Debian
postinst option? That would certainly be nicer for users.

So I'll leave this bug open for now.

Drew

Bug#466473: Wget -r -k: strips closing tags from changed urls.

2008-02-18 Thread Jacob Emmert-Aronson
Package: wget
Version: 1.10.2-3
Severity: minor

The -k flag to wget mishandles the code for hyperlinks.

Let's say that the web page http://foo.com/bar/index.html contains a
hyperlink to http://foo.com/bar/baz.html. The html code for this
hyperlink would be:

  http://foo.com/bar/baz.html>display text

Now, the command wget -h -k foo.com/bar/ downloads both pages and
*should* change the code of the hyperlink to the following:

  display text

Instead, the closing tag is removed leaving only

  display text

If there is any text following the display text, it is also included
as part of the hyperlink. This is mainly a cosmetic issue as the text
is still displayed, but it is certainly not desirable. It should be
fairly straightforward to correct the script to prevent the closing
tag from being removed.

I tried setting the interface to half-duplex but it stubbornly refused to let
me. The problem, as well, persists. From my xconsole:

Feb 19 10:29:30 hades sudo:  adz : TTY=pts/0 ; PWD=/home/adz ; USER=root ;

Note that regardless of whether I set it to full or half, the driver responds
with "ATL2: eth1 NIC Link is Up<100 Mbps Full Duplex>". Similarly, trying to

Note the requested speed (10) and what the driver responds with (100). So, I
decided to change what the driver advertises to 100/half-duplex:

Feb 19 10:44:00 hades sudo:  adz : TTY=pts/0 ; PWD=/home/adz ; USER=root ;

Adam.

PS: I decided NOT to wrap this email to a sensible width so that the xconsole
messages will survive intact.
