Bug#473187: aptitude: does not respond to key responsively with ~d...

2008-03-28 Thread Osamu Aoki
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.4.11-3
Severity: normal

I think it is recent feature for aptitude to search incrementally with
key input. This is good feature if we are just putting simple pacckage
name to prompt after pressing "/".

But once we place ~d into box, key response get super slow with longer
sting in the box. Even with new 2MHz Core2 duo, it can reach
unbearably slow level quite easily. Thus I am filing this not us
wishlist but normal bug.

It seems you implimented this incremental search function to "/" but not
to "l".

Since incremental search is very CPU intensive, it should be disabled
for complicated search. I suggest you disable incremental search when
"~" is entered into input search string box. I do not think incremental
search is needed in such case.

Bug#279741: metric for DHCP

2008-03-28 Thread Osamu Aoki
Hi,

This is about http://bugs.debian.org/279741

It is quite understandable this wishlist exists.

So I am adding this information here so people can have their wish
without waiting for this to be solved by ifupdown package.

Solution: install ifmetric package.

This package runs ifmetric command as hook script and does what is
needed aposteori. This package does not require any modification to the
existing packages.

the filename is in the ed2k link (maybe in UTF-8, I am not sure), this
problem is how to present a unicode file name in the disk. if locale

It seems to be an intltool bug about its cache handling. During build

I definitely agree -- the documentation for this stuff is horrible all

to improve HAL/Xorg hotplugging. They are in upstream git, but I don't
think the new features will make it down to distro's for a bit yet.

Bug#421580: Proposed patch for Debian package

2008-03-28 Thread Dave Hall
Hi Olivier,

Try the attached patch if you like. It won't be included in 0.9.16, but
should work for your purposes.

I am currently testing what I proposed in the earlier comment in a
private branch. That should make its way back into the phpgw tree at
some point.

Cheers

No, that's unacceptable, that changes behavior.

Why do you want to use such an old version of bash? pipefail has
around been since 2004, which is 4 years ago, and 2 releases back.

Bug#473185: Please don't use package not available on all archs as first alternative

2008-03-28 Thread Frank Lichtenheld
Package: libqt4-sql
Version: 4.3.4-2
Severity: wishlist

libqt4-sql currently depends on "libqt4-sql-ibase | libqt4-sql-mysql |
libqt4-sql-odbc | libqt4-sql-psql | libqt4-sql-sqlite |
libqt4-sql-sqlite2"

I would suggest reordering that so that a package that is available on
all architectures is listed first (libqt4-sql-ibase is only available on
a few architectures). This would make it easier for very dumb dependency
resolvers (like the one in sbuild for example) to handle this. This is
at least a problem with the build-dependency resolver of the
experimental buildds since that does a full recursion in the
build-dependency tree to search for dependencies from experimental.

See e.g. this build log:
http://experimental.debian.net/fetch.php?pkg=qimageblitz&arch=hppa&ver=1%3A0.0.4-2&stamp=1206756538&file=log&as=raw

Bug#473147: pppoeconf creates non-optimal /e/n/i (follow-up)

2008-03-28 Thread Osamu Aoki
Hi,

I have second thought, there can be another style too.

The intent of pppoeconf seems to have stanza for each interface which is
right and reasonable.

But if "auto dsl-provider" is used as in the case of pppoeconf, then
/etc/network/run/ifstate will contain dsl-provider=dsl-provider which is
wrong.

Let me propose new option 3. With this, /etc/network/run/ifstate will
have ppp0=dsl-provider and is right even in detail.

Option 3: (pedantically correct and use manual and ppp)
|auto lo
|iface lo inet loopback
|
|# comment out next 1 line for manual start
|auto eth0
|iface eth0 inet manual
|pre-up/sbin/ifconfig eth0 up
|upifup ppp0=dsl-provider
|down ifdown ppp0=dsl-provider
|post-down /sbin/ifconfig eth0 down
|
|iface dsl-provider inet ppp
|provider dsl-provider

(If dsl-provider in iface stanza line is replaced by ppp0 in option 3,
then "ppp0=dsl-provider" should be changed to simple "ppp0". I think
above example is nicer in style.)

I just checked this works as intended.

Option 1 and 2 (see below) will not have ppp0 line in ifstate but for
all practical purpose, dropping ppp0 will not have negative impact.
But for configuration helper script such as pppoeconf should create best
styled one.

These correct configurations can be set "manual start" mode by
commenting out pertinent "auto" line. Then you can install the ifplugd
package to change trigger for interface up/down to the plugging-in/out
of cable. That together with guessnet can automate selecting pppoe
connection and DHCP etc. when machine moves around environment.

I have updated this kind of Debian network tutorial of "Debian
Reference" and temporary hosting at:

 http://people.debian.org/~osamu/pub/getwiki/html/ch06.en.html

Osamu

PS: Let me recap what are other acceptable configuration:

Option 1: (I think this is best since it is simple.)
|auto lo
|iface lo inet loopback
|
|# comment out next 1 line for manual start
|auto eth0
|iface eth0 inet ppp
|pre-up/sbin/ifconfig eth0 up
|post-down /sbin/ifconfig eth0 down
|# create ppp0 interface which connects via eth0 connection
|provider dsl-provider

Option 2: (If you insist using manual instead of ppp)
|auto lo
|iface lo inet loopback
|
|# comment out next 1 line for manual start
|auto eth0
|iface eth0 inet manual
|pre-up/sbin/ifconfig eth0 up
|# create ppp0 interface which connects via eth0 connection
|up/usr/bin/pon dsl-provider
|down /usr/bin/poff dsl-provider
|post-down /sbin/ifconfig eth0 down

This means that pine, alpine, and UW IMAPd are okay with the suggested

Bug#470994: [Alpine-info] Permissions of user mailboxes in /var/mail

2008-03-28 Thread Mark Crispin

I apologize for not responding earlier; I was on vacation until Tuesday.

The answer to your question is:

"If I understand your question correctly, the answer is yes. It is OK for
mailbox files in /var/mail to be protected 0600 without any specific group
setting. In fact, this is the normal and expected protection for mailbox
files for the UW c-client library.

"Nothing in any version of Pine, Alpine, UW imapd, ipop3d, or any other UW
c-client based application has any dependency upon a mailbox file being
accessible by group mail.

"c-client based applications run without privileges (including without
setgid mail). Thus, they prefer that the protection of the mail spool
directory, e.g., /var/mail, be the traditional 1777. Although it is
possible to harass another user by creating fake locks, it is difficult to
do this anonymously if the mail spool is located on its own filesystem.

"Some systems set the protection of the mail spool directory to be 775
with the group set to mail. In that case, c-client based applications
require the installation of the external mlock helper tool, which is
distributed as part of the UW IMAP toolkit. mlock runs as setgid mail,
and tries to be as paranoid as possible in making sure that its access is
safe."

On Mon, 17 Mar 2008, Asheesh Laroia wrote:

Dear alpiners,

In Debian, the Policy currently says: "Mailboxes are generally mode 660
user.mail unless the system administrator has chosen otherwise. . . .
Mailboxes must be writable by group mail. "

This refers to the permissions of mbox files in /var/mail/. Josip Rodin is
trying to change this in Debian. In particular, he wants to remove the
requirement that the mbox files be writable by the mail group. I wanted to
ask the UW alpiners:

If Debian used mode 0600 for the mailboxes in /var/mail, would that be okay?
In particular, I'd like to know if it would cause locking problems for alpine
or the UW IMAPd. I'd be curious to also know if older versions of PINE would
also be okay with the changes.

Note that Josip's suggested change is simply to remove the "must be writiable
by group mail" sentence from the Policy, not to make a specific
recommendation. I mention 0600 for the user mbox files as an example; it
seems like the most restrictive the files could be to be useful, so if they
are less restrictive than that (al)pine should be fine as well.

As I understand things, this change would be fine - but better safe than
sorry when changing Policy!

For your entirely optional reading pleasure, the full text of Josip Rodin's
message can be found at
http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.devel.bugs.general/387931 - I'm
CC:ing the bug so this conversation can be recorded in the right place for
Debian people to review it; please keep the bug on the CC:s. Josip quotes a
message about pine from 1999 that can be found at
http://lists.debian.org/debian-policy/1999/06/msg00108.html ; it seems that
Brock was mistaken, and a response can be found at
http://lists.debian.org/debian-policy/1999/06/msg00124.html .

Bug#473182: kdebase: KDE applications waste minutes in launching

2008-03-28 Thread Rafael
Package: kdebase
Version: 4:3.5.8.dfsg.1-7
Severity: important

Sometimes KDE turns into a state in which some KDE applications as like as
D3lphin, Kate, kaffeine, amarok, k3b... take over minutes to load.
Sorry but i don't completly know what causes this, it some times happens when I
have been playing multiple small videos with Kaffeine.
I am experimenting the problem right now, today I have had KDE all day working
since 8:00 am, to 1:20 am (many hours), just using boinc-client, kget, amule,
and
Ares emulated with wine. All applications are pasive, processing and
downloading. When i have came from work, i have tested a downloaded video, and
following I
have found that multiple KDE applications take minutes
for launch, some of them may be never start (kaffeine for example).
I have seen this problem more times before, in other installations of Debian
lenny + KDE, but in this same computer.
I have passed a memtest86+ without finding error in RAM.
It is possible this bug to have relationship with #461636 and #405965 bugs.
If i run 'ps aux | grep "appname"' i can see the program in execution:

You can see kaffeine, but i closed it before. Interesting..

I try to kill kaffeine (main possible cause):

Now it is killed.

But problem persists:
I run again kaffeine and d3lphin, but after one minute they are not launched.
I see 'ps aux' again:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ps aux | grep kaffeine

rafael 28260 0.0 1.9 32088 19748 ?SMar28 0:01 d3lphin

They continue without launch after two munites.
A few seconds later d3lphin appears, it has been launched.
Around 15 seconds later other d3lphin appears (may be I started two d3lphins?).
Around 10-15 seconds later, kaffeine also appears.
They have taked around two minutes for launch.
Lets see now ps aux output:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ps aux | grep d3lphin
rafael6154 0.1 1.7 31436 18500 ?S02:02 0:00 d3lphin

rafael7383 0.0 0.0 3884 748 pts/3R+ 02:09 0:00 grep kaffeine

If you need more information, tell me.
Do you think that kaffeine could be the cause of all this?
See that in the first 'ps aux | grep kaffeine' execution, it seems to be locked
or frozen, because i previously closed it, but it still appears in ps aux.
In addiction i have said that other times this started playing small videos
with kaffeine. Interesting..

Sorry for this BIG report, you must be tired for reading, i hope for it to be
useful. THANKS FOR YOUR WORK.

Bug#473181: libghc6-xhtml-dev: hotlink should accept any HTML, not just an Html

2008-03-28 Thread Josh Triplett
Package: libghc6-xhtml-dev
Version: 3000.0.2.1-2
Severity: wishlist

When using this library, I often found it inconvenient to convert the
argument of hotlink to an Html myself by calling toHtml. I think
hotlink should instead accept any HTML a, and convert it by calling
toHtml. This should prove source-compatible with any existing
callers, since an Html qualifies as an HTML. This would change the
type of hotlink from

hotlink :: URL -> Html -> HotLink

to

hotlink :: HTML h => URL -> h -> HotLink

Notably, this makes it easier to curry hotlink, or to use it with
zipWith (if you have two lists) or uncurry (if you have a list of
tuples). For the simple case of a single HTML type, it allows passing
that type directly with no parentheses or $, rather than having to use
parentheses or $ around the call to toHtml in the argument.

Closing a bug about a typo usually means that the typo is not present

Why not? You could always download the latest files for your language
from and put them in
~/.vim/spell.

Bug#434562: Inability to reproduce

2008-03-28 Thread Anders Breindahl
Hi,

Going over my TODO, this came up. I did try to set up a such
repository-hosting machine, but had no success whatsoever.

- I wasn't able to have apache use postgresql for authentication. I
tried a fresh install, and used mostly the guide's configuration.
- I don't know whether my previous debugging is still applicable
- I don't suppose the bug is still relevant, but that's only per
  Stefan's suggestions.

For all I care, the bug may be closed -- but technically, I can't say
it's been resolved.

Regards, skrewz.

Bug#473179: libuuid should use useradd/groupadd

2008-03-28 Thread Michael Spang
Package: libuuid1
Version: 1.40.2-1+lenny1
Severity: important

The postinst uses useradd to add a user/group. Policy section 9.2.2 says:

Packages which need a user or group, but can have this user or
group allocated dynamically and differently on each system, should use
adduser --system to create the group and/or user. adduser will check for
the existence of the user or group, and if necessary choose an unused id
based on the ranges specified in adduser.conf."

Using useradd directly will ignore any user tuning of the ranges used in
adduser.conf.

Thanks.

It appears to be a). Any hints on how to figure out why nfs-common is

This is a duplicate of 416976. Su is behaving correctly. The kernel
is behaving correctly: it doesn't allow xterm to send signals to su
sessions for good reasons ;)

The problem is in bash that doesn't properly handle the case when it's
not permitted to SIGHUP all of its patriarchy.

Hmm? There was at least one fault (hint: double negative), ang gxine worked
fine?

That makes it an fglrx problem, then. You should reassign this bug
accordingly (to whatever package provides the X driver binary, *not* the
kernel module); see http://www.debian.org/Bugs/server-control for details.

Bug#473177: libboost-date-time-dev: time_formatters.hpp incorrectly formats fractional seconds using global locale

2008-03-28 Thread LeJacq, Jean Pierre
Package: libboost-date-time-dev
Version: 1.34.1-9
Severity: important
Tags: patch

The function boost::posix_time::to_iso_string_type() uses the
ostream::operator<<() function to write the time. This later function
will use the current global locale to format each of the elements of
the time. In particular, when the global locale is set to en_US, the
fractional will be formatted to be 123,456 when there are six digits,
which is incorrect.

The proposed solution is to temporarily imbue the ostream with the
classic locale to disable formatting. The attached patch only applies
this to the fractional seconds but it would be more robust to apply to
the other time components as well.

This defect has already been reported upstream
http://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/ticket/1726.

This defect is similar to Debian Bug#469771.

man "set" :
-e When this option is on, if a simple command fails for any of the
reasons listed in Consequences of Shell Errors or returns an
exit status value >0, and is not part of the compound list fol‐
lowing a while, until, or if keyword, and is not a part of an
AND or OR list, and is not a pipeline preceded by the ! reserved
word, then the shell shall immediately exit.

http://www.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/009695399/utilities/xcu_chap02.html#tag_02_08_01

So the behaviour for AND or OR list is not obvious for me ...
for example :
set -e
false && true
echo "no error"
returns : "no error".
by the way :
false && false also returns "no error" so what kills the script is not
the exit status in a list ...

So basically I agree && does not trigger an error . What I found out is
that inside a function the behaviour changes :

set -e
a() {
false && true
}
a;
echo "no error"

fails while :
set -e
a() {
false && true || true
}
a;
echo "no error"
succeed.

So my patch seems needed to get things working as lsb-base-logging.sh
make the list of calls in functions.
Best regards
Alban

Bug#473175: apt-listbugs: pinned packages are not automatically unpinned

2008-03-28 Thread Francesco Poli
Package: apt-listbugs
Version: 0.0.86
Severity: important

Hi and thanks for maintaining apt-listbugs!

I am experiencing a problem with its cron.daily script, though.
Some time ago, I pinned two packages in order to avoid installing
versions affected by a couple of bugs which I thought could have a
negative impact on my system.

/usr/share/doc/apt-listbugs/README.Debian.gz states:

| The pinning will be removed when the package no longer has any
| critical bugs, by cron.daily.

Hence, my understanding is that no manual intervention is required
in order to have those packages unpinned when the scary bugs are
fixed or no longer release-critical.

OK, my current /etc/apt/preferences is:

| Explanation: Pinned by apt-listbugs at Wed Jan 16 21:34:06 +0100 2008
| Explanation: #454965: ttf-opensymbol: uninstallable
| Explanation: #452718: ttf-opensymbol non-installable
| Package: fontconfig
| Pin: version 2.4.2-1.2
| Pin-Priority: 1000
|
| Explanation: Pinned by apt-listbugs at Sat Feb 16 19:24:37 +0100 2008

dependency
| Explanation: #466052: installation-reports: GRUB installation failed
| Package: apt

The system executes cron.daily scripts via anacron everyday, but nothing
seems to change in this file.
However:

  * #454965 and #452718 were merged together and then downgraded from
 severity `serious' to `important' (on Sun, 23 Mar 2008)

 release-critical bugs

 Thu, 21 Feb 2008)

I expected to see my /etc/apt/preferences modified as follows:

| Explanation: Pinned by apt-listbugs at Sat Feb 16 19:24:37 +0100 2008
| Explanation: #465241: bibtex2html has been installed with an unmet
dependency
| Package: apt
| Pin: version 0.7.9
| Pin-Priority: 1000

Instead, I still see both packages pinned (and thus not upgraded!).

Indeed, if I manually run the following command, I get an output identical
to my current /etc/apt/preferences file:

  # /usr/share/apt-listbugs/aptcleanup
  Explanation: Pinned by apt-listbugs at Wed Jan 16 21:34:06 +0100 2008
  Explanation: #454965: ttf-opensymbol: uninstallable

Explanation: #466052: installation-reports: GRUB installation failed
  Package: apt

I cannot understand what's going on.

I tried to perform a debug test on fontconfig, as suggested in
/usr/share/doc/apt-listbugs/README.Debian.gz .
I ran the following command-line:

  # (echo 'VERSION 2'; echo '' ;
ls -1 /var/cache/apt/archives/fontconfig_*.deb |
sed 's/^/x x x x /') |
/usr/sbin/apt-listbugs apt -d \
2> /tmp/apt-listbugs.debug.stderr \
1> /tmp/apt-listbugs.debug.stdout

The two generated files are attached.
The final part of /tmp/apt-listbugs.debug.stdout seems to suggest
that apt-listbugs is willing to let the upgrade of fontconfig happen...
Nonetheless, my /etc/apt/preferences file still pins the package,
and aptitude refrains from upgrading it.

What's wrong?
What did I fail to understand?

Thanks for your attention.

Bug#412661: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the xcdroast package

2008-03-28 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear maintainer of xcdroast and Debian translators,

On Thursday, March 13, 2008 I sent a notice to the maintainer of the xcdroast
Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS (bug #412661).

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in two
weeks, so I will proceed with the NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to: ca cs da de es eu fi fr gl it ja nl pt
pt_BR ru sv vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete:

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the xcdroast package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Tuesday, April 08,
2008. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Thursday, March 13, 2008 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Saturday, March 29, 2008 : send this notice
Tuesday, April 08, 2008 : deadline for receiving translation updates
Wednesday, April 09, 2008 : build the package and upload it to
DELAYED/0-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Thursday, April 10, 2008 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Bug#472872: myldap_has_objectclass(): myldap_get_values() returned NULL in syslog

First of all to reply to your earlier mail, reporting bugs is fine for

The reason that nss-ldapd does a lookup for the objectClass for each
user entry is to not return a password information if it is of type
shadowAccount (it tries to return it with shadow instead).

In any case exposing password hashes through NSS is a bad idea and not
really needed for anything with pam_ldap.

Anyway, I've removed the warning message in svn and it shouldn't fill up
your logs with the next release. (the warning message did not really add
much to the functionality)

That would be a solution but not something I would want to implement. If
it were some sort of search already I could add it but since this is an
attribute lookup like any other.

By the way, is there any specific reason why you don't want to allow
lookups of objectClass of any entries?

Ah, you are right:

dopio:~# tar xfz /fast/debmirror/debian//pool/main/e/e3/e3_2.71.orig.tar.gz
dopio:~#

That is somewhat puzzling to me. Why would 't' print errors when 'x'
does not?

Thanks. Could it be related to the symlinks? Maybe the maintainer used
another tar implementation to create the tar archive?

Bug#472068: Fatal error during launching gxine

2008-03-28 Thread merlin
Hello,

In my last mail I said I'm using Ati Catalyst 8.3. During update on new
Kernel 2.6.24 I lost kernel modul (fglrx-kernel-2.6.24-1-amd64) or fglrx
was prapared for old kernel.

Important is that I tried run gxine on this clean Kernel /safe out from
software by Ati/ and there wasn't no fault in this situation and gxine
worked all right. I was testing to play Audio CD and any film in MPEG 2
or 4?? in it.

When I made instal fglrx-kernel again, than the gxine didn't work
again.

sincerely M Kovarik

Bug#471380: Intent to NMU viewvc to fix pending po-debconf l10n and security bugs

2008-03-28 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear Debian maintainer,

The viewvc Debian package, which you are the maintainer of, has
pending bug report(s) which include translation updates or fixes
for po-debconf, namely bug number 426876 (and maybe other similar bugs).

Even if we're still far from the release of the next Debian version,
letting such bugs sleep in the BTS is simply lowering
the chances that your package interaction with its users may be done
in something else than the English language. It is also not
encouraging for translators.

I have the intention, as part of a more general action of the Debian
i18n Task Force to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for viewvc in order to fix this as well as all pending translations
for the debconf templates.

I will also, while doing that, package the 1.0.5 upstream version that
fixes several security issues.

Of course, an upload made by you would even be better...:-)

Such changes are always harmless, which explains why I safely consider
building NMU's for such issues even though they're obviously non critical.

The schedule for the NMU (in case it happens, that is if you agree with it
or if I don't receive any answer in 14 days) is roughly the following:

Friday, March 28, 2008 : send this notice
 Saturday, April 12, 2008 : post a NMU announcement to debian-i18n with
you
 (maintainer) CC'ed
Tuesday, April 22, 2008 : deadline for receiving translation updates
Wednesday, April 23, 2008 : build the package and upload it to
DELAYED/2-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Friday, April 25, 2008 : NMU reaches incoming

If you intent to upload yourself, please notify me so that I interrupt
the process on my side.

In case I upload an NMU, I will subscribe to the Package Tracking System for
viewvc and follow its life for 60 days after my NMU in order to fix
any issue potentially introduced by my upload.

Let me know, as soon as possible, if you have any kind of objection to this
process.

If you'd rather do the fix yourself, I will of course leave the package
alone. Same if you have reasons not to do the update now.

After upgrading to the latest version of nfs-common my nfs mapped
drives stopped mounting on system start. I tried to mount them manually - no
success, timeout occured. I had to downgrade to 1:1.1.1-14 so it works
again. It's my first bug report - I think it's grave, but the report
tool says that it should occur on different systems to be grave and I
don't have different hardware configurations to test it on them.

This prompt is not in shadow, but in PAM (pam_unix or pam_userdb modules).

Bug#473169: ipsec: gssapi-auth broken

2008-03-28 Thread Greg Harris
Package: racoon
Version: 0.6.6-3.1etch1

I just sent this email upstream but due to racoon/ipsec-tools being compiled
with --enable-hybrid and --enable-gssapi it is currently impossible to do
gssapi-auth in Debian. The patch at the end of this email appears to fix
the problem under Debian Etch.

The bug itself is below (a patch to fix is available at the end of this
message):

if ((iph1->mode_cfg->flags & ISAKMP_CFG_VENDORID_XAUTH) == 0) {
   plog(LLV_ERROR, LOCATION, NULL,
"Hybrid auth negotiated but peer did not "
   "announced as Xauth capable\n");
   return -1;
}

Both the xauth extension [draft-ietf-ipsec-isakmp-xauth-06] and GSSAPI
extension [http://tools.ietf.org/id/draft-ietf-ipsec-isakmp-gss-auth-07.txt]
to ipsec use the private authentication identifier range starting at 65001.

If the xauth code sees one of its authentication ids being used with a
different vendor code it returns -1 and the phase2 negotiation fails. This
is incorrect behavior as other authentication extensions differentiated by
vendor ids share the same private authentication. The xauth code is
currently aborting the phase2 negotiation before any other authentication
extension can run.

I believe the correct behavior should be to warn the user that something
fishy might be going on and return 0 from this function. This is the same
behavior that a non-private authentication code would have. Once returned
the phase2 negotiation could continue with other authentication extensions
(GSSAPI).

I originally encountered this problem on a Debian Etch system attempting to
do GSSAPI authentication with ipsec-tools 0.6.6-3.1etch1. The problem still
appears to be in the latest ipsec-tools release. Below is a patch that I
have tested against 0.6.6-3.1etch1 with success:

I have been testing this with a variety of packages, including
reverse_cross builds and cross-compiler builds of gcc-4.2 (there are
upstream problems with gcc-4.3 right now) and a mix of other Emdebian
packages and it works perfectly.

Thanks for committing this fix, it will help Emdebian enormously.

Viewing the bug reports from the position of unstable is a reasonable
default. [The link from PDO is saying "check out bugs for
mysql-server-5.0" and the BTS says "the ddefault view for all bugs is
unstable"]

That said, in this instance it could be changed to pay attention to
the distribution selected, which would be a feature enhancement.
That's pretty much up to the PDO administrators, since I don't have a
huge opinion about it either way.

Bug#448501: Status update on debfoster's removes-too-much bug

2008-03-28 Thread Florian Weimer
I'll be unable to work on this during the next week, and haven't managed
to make substantial progress so far.

Here's what needs to be done: /var/lib/dpkg/status needs to be read
twice, once to gather the installed package versions (this a new pass),
and another time to do the dependency extraction (the current pass).
During depedency extraction, version information in
Depends/Recommends/Suggests needs to be parsed (new code) and compared
to the installed versions (comparison code needs to be copied from dpkg
or apt, preferably the latter). A conditional dependency which cannot
be fulfilled by the currently installed package version should be
dropped.

Ideally, this should be moved into the actual package pruning process,
but this would require changing the data structures, turning package
names/references into package/version pairs. This change is rather
invasive, that's why I want to avoid it.

(It is quite impressive how many people end up with bad permissions on

The output in 1.11.1 of "wget --spider -nv URL" changed to:

$ wget -nv ix.de
2008-03-28 21:29:24 URL:http://www.heise.de/ix/ [32557] -> "index.html" [1]

Hi!

I reported bug #447084 and I am still experiencing it, unfortunately.
During the discussion and the tests that I performed (see the bug log),
I developed the strong suspicion that the problem may lie in libx11-6
(I am currently using version 2:1.0.3-7 from testing).

Is bug #447084 a duplicate of bug #364014 ?
Should bug #447084 be reassigned to libx11 and merged with #364014 ?

It works perfectly, thanks Raphael.

I've been testing it on a variety of existing Emdebian packages and it
works exactly as requested.

Closing this and #453267 would provide sane cross-building support
native to dpkg in Lenny and that is fantastic news. It may not sound
like a big event to the rest of Debian, but IMHO this warrants being
listed as one of the major improvements between Etch and Lenny for
anyone interested in embedded development.

I may be the one filing the bugs but there are lots of other people who
want to use Debian as their platform-of-choice when developing embedded
software.

Thanks for committing this improvement to dpkg!

OK. Why doesn't it do what module-assistant does?

I could add a static config.h and extraversion.h to the package as we don't
need to worry about versions with backported changes in Debian, unlike some
other distributions I could mention. However we're switching to a more
autoconf-like way of detecting kernel features, which will mean that in future
it's essential to run a script before compiling any source files. I'll try
using the filechk rules in kbuild to do this.

Ben.

Version: 1.2.12
Severity: minor

Hi,

The /usr/share/doc-base/maint-guide-pl file contains the following line
Author: Josip Rodin, Paweł Tęcza, Marcin Owsiany
which seems to be encoded in ISO-8859-2. Although it wasn't documented, such
encoding was never supported by doc-base.

While installing doc-base files, recent versions of install-docs try
to convert to UTF-8, but since ISO-8859-1 is assumed, the result of
such recoding will be obviouslly wrong. Could you please manually recode
the file to UTF-8 in next version of your package?

Regards,
robert

Bug#473167: string concatenation segfaults

2008-03-28 Thread Ulrich Eckhardt
Package: gdc
Version: 4.1.2-13

The attached program segfaults. This affects e.g. torustrooper but I guess any
nontrivial D program is affected, too. Note that I'm running on PPC, which
might be an important part in this. When run, it displays

 test1 foo
 Segmentation fault

When run in gdb, the backtrace is:

 #0 0x10022e9c in _d_arraycatT ()
 #1 0x10002a50 in _D4test4testFAaZv ()
 #2 0x10002adc in _Dmain ()
 #3 0x1002fef4 in _D9dgccmain211_d_run_mainUiPPaPUAAaZiZi2goMFZv ()
 #4 0x1002fffc in _d_run_main ()
 #5 0x10027f98 in main ()

I hope this is precise enough, I have little experience with D (below is my
first program...) so just tell me if you need anything else.

cheers

The problem is in the selinux-doc package, which tries to register two
different documents (`Implementing SELinux as a Linux Security Module'
and 'Configuring the SELinux Policy') in one doc-base file.

Wget has zero support for chunked transfer encodings (and therefore, for
HTTP/1.1). It will only ever send HTTP/1.0 requests, which means that a
HTTP/1.1 response is illegal (as is the chunked encoding).

Obviously, we'd like to see this changed; but it's not a bug; more of an
obsolescence.

Bug#434362: There is still a problem with negation on some objects

2008-03-28 Thread Vincent Bernat
tags 434362 + moreinfo unreproducible
thanks

Hi !

I am unable to reproduce this bug in 2.1.17. Negation of complex object
creates a special chain where RETURN target is used when the non negated
object matches. Therefore, everything seems fine. However, I don't find
any bug corresponding to this behaviour between 2.1.8 and 2.1.17.

I have tried to negate an address range and a group of objects
successfully. Could you provide some example file where you get the
behaviour you describe?

Thanks.

Right. Inputting Résumé seems to work fine for me without building with
ncursesw. What doesn't work for you that needs it?

-- Asheesh.

I'm not sure what alpine gets from libcurses. We use escape sequences from
terminfo/termcap to move the cursor around and that's pretty much it. So
unless I'm missing some critical piece, it doesn't seem like it would make
any difference.

Programming/OCaml is a valid section. Quoting the section 2.3.3 of
doc-base manual:

  Programming
IDEs, debuggers, compilers, APIs, libraries, programming languages.
Documentation related to only one specific language should be put in
subsection named like the language, for example:
*  C
*  C++
*  Java
*  Perl
*  Python
*  Ruby

The list contains only examples and is not (and most probably never be)
complete. I can add OCaml to it in the next release.

Obviously! APIs of language Foo, even automatically generated, should go
to Programming/Foo.

Ah, I see. That seems to be because D-I extrapolates it from locale settings,
which... (see below)

We all know Windows is faulty, but country setting is at least expected to be
correct. Though, if user (or OEM) chose the wrong option when installing it,
one can always fix it later (in Control Panel I guess) or override it by
choosing expert mode.

Yes, now I agree with you. I'm uploading anyway a patch with doesn't
search for icons only in classic.small, but also in square.small.
Moreover, it wipes out the absolute icon path from elemstyles.xml and
makes josm search icons automatically in the correct path.

until the X server is restarted. It's been proposed for 1.5 upstream [2]
but also fixes the problem for 1.4.
