Unfortunately I don't use xrandr and different screen
sizes, so I can say nothing on this bug. The only thing
I definitely know is the following: the developers have
been informed about this bug and may be they even have
already corrected it.

Wouldn't it be too much trouble for You to build the
git-version of fluxbox? In the neighbour bug-treads I wrote
how to build it. Here for example: #375709

Some new settings are not finished yet in git-version,
however it is possible to estimate if this bug declares
itself or not.

Bug#482365: aptitude proceeds with install without permission to do so

2008-05-21 Thread Ross Boylan
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.4.11.2-1
Severity: normal

I consider this pretty serious misbehavior, since it results in
aptitude taking action without a request to take action. However,
this only happens in peculiar circumstances, namely an X failure
killed my who X session.

I ran aptitude in a KDE terminal and hit u, U, and g (i.e., start
upgrade). It downloaded the debs, checked for bugs (I don't think
there were any) and showed me the changlog. It then asked (roughly)
Proceed with upgrade (Y/N)?

Since one of the upgrades involved the kernel I was running, and since
I had a long-running computation I didn't want to risk interruptings.
I did not respond.

Hours later I locked the screen (running KDE, launched from
KDE). After some time, another user switched to her existing session
on another virtual terminal. After a couple of minutes my original X
session, which was not on the screen, crashed. At that point,
aptitude apparently decided to proceed with the installation:

May 21 21:30:24 corn kernel: Xorg[7160]: segfault at 01a4 eip
0818c49a esp bf98f9a0 error 4

The dpkg log shows action started shortly thereafter:
2008-05-21 21:30:37 startup archives unpack
2008-05-21 21:30:53 upgrade linux-image-2.6.24-1-686 2.6.24-6 2.6.24-7
2008-05-21 21:30:53 status half-configured linux-image-2.6.24-1-686 2.6.24-6

I speculate that aptitude either mishandled a signal to die or got
disoriented by the disappearance of the terminal it was in.

There are many possible culprits: X or KDE Terminal generated a bogus
character as X went down; apt-listchanges; apt; or any of the
libraries they depend on. Please reassign if appropriate.

Obviously it would be nice if X didn't crash, but this bug is about
how aptitude handles things when it does.

Bug#229285: [Pkg-awstats-devel] Suggestion for moving awstats to apache2 as default config.

I am fine with changing the default, as long as it is kept overrideable.
That is, setups favouring eg. lighttpd should work too.

Apache 1.3 used to use different access rights for logfiles than apache
2.x. Some instructions and/or setup might need an update now (but it is
quite some time ago I looked into it, so I may be wrong).

Apart from that your changes look sane to me.

Please go ahead (and we'll fix it together if things should break).

Yep, I only got the Python tracebacks on the first segfault, not the second.

No, the second client wasn't active on the LAN at either time; the
laptop that I use as the second client has been disconnected from the
LAN since Sunday morning, so all that's been happening is local
accesses and whatever p2p traffic has been active.

Bug#482364: gettext-el: patch for po-mode to save buffer when PO-Revision-Date is hold

2008-05-21 Thread Kobayashi Noritada
Package: gettext-el
Version: 0.17-2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi,

po-mode provides po-auto-replace-revision-date, an option for users to
decide whether PO-Revision-Date field in the header should be
automatically updated or not. However, when users choose holding that
field, by setting that variable to "ask" and answering "n" to "May I set
PO-Revision-Date? (y or n) " or by setting that variable to "nil", the
field is not updated AND THE BUFFER IS NOT SAVED. I've confirmed that
this issue represents in Emacs 21 and Emacs 22.

This may be a bug due to a fact[1] that Emacs considers the buffer is
saved when a hook in write-contents-hooks returns non-nil. So, I've
created a patch to fix the issue. Could you please apply it?

[1] http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/elisp/html_node/Saving-Buffers.html
(write-contents-hooks is renamed as write-contents-functions in
Emacs 22.1).

Many thanks,

Bug#482305: kernel 2.6.25-2-686 has xen support

2008-05-21 Thread Ian Campbell

> There is no problem with the Nvidia script, the problem is Nvidia does
> not support xen kernels.

That is true of the original Xen kernels (up to 2.6.18) but not of the
new Xen kernels (2.6.22+).

The original Xen port of Linux required that you build a specific Xen
kernel which would not boot on native and which made changes that broke
the Nvidia drivers, hence they check for CONFIG_XEN and abort if it is
enabled, they also added a load of #ifdef CONFIG_XEN stuff.

The new Xen port of Linux use the paravirt_ops infrastructure which
makes the support of Xen transparent to the rest of the kernel and also
allows one binary to boot on both native and Xen. Since the Xen support
is now transparent to the rest of the kernel both the check for
CONFIG_XEN and the #ifdef CONFIG_XEN code is obsolete and should be
removed from the nvidia drivers.

See http://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2008/05/msg00948.html for a
report that removing all the CONFIG_XEN checks fixes the issue, it did
for me too.

Sorry, I neglected to mention to check the symlink destination as
well. Is it also there? Are you no longer getting these errors then?

If it is there, I suspect that a rare error occurred in which the file
disappeared between the checking it was there and the loading of the
packages cache. Is it possible that an 'apt-get update' was called
while another apt-get call was still downloading? I suspect this may
be due to your modification of apt-p2p to allow for multiple machines
on a LAN to use apt-p2p like a proxy. Is that a possibility?

Thanks,
Cameron

This is also #230308 against perl.

Although there's the glibc precedent, the perl package doesn't really
want to know which packages need a restart. I wonder if the new dpkg
triggers would be a good solution for this.

You need to add a "testing" line (copy the one from Etch/stable and
change it into testing) to your /etc/apt/sources.list first, and then
run apt-get update.

I got another core file today.

Also since the Debian pulseaudio maintainer is not doing their job
properly, I forwarded this bug upstream:

Bug#481575: RFH: Bug #481575: courier: FTBFS

2008-05-21 Thread Christian Perrier
During the l10n NMU campaign, some work was done on "courier", in the
usual "l10n NMU" way:

-send an intent to l10n NMU
-wait for 10 days to get a reaction
-send a call for l10n updates and new translations
-wait for 8 days
-build the NMU

However, building the NMU fails and lead to /me reporting #481575.

As of now, I got no news from Stefan, the package maintainer, about
this package.

So, the work is still pending in my spool...

From what I see, fixing that bug is probably fairly easy for anyone
with a little more clue than me. So, may I request for clued people to
have a look at this bug report and help me (and indirectly the package
maintainer) to find a solution?

I have no specific interest in courier. I just want to move along...:)

PS: the package has another RC bug as it apparently provides non free
RFC documents.

Many thanks in advance to people who will have a look at this.

I don't remember exactly how this is handled, but those licenses are
accepted only for PHP, as per REJECT FAQ:
 http://ftp-master.debian.org/REJECT-FAQ.html

I suppose that the packages you cite were here before this
statement. There are bugs filed in this case. For example, for
php-net-socket:
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=332616
(not a very active bug)

This is quite unfair that already packaged packages can keep the
problematic PHP license and that new softwares are automatically
rejected on this basis. You might ask on debian-legal if the situation
has somewhat evolved on this situation.

No, those files are allowed to be distributed freely. Just add a note
(above the license) to tell that those files are not shipped in binary
packages. Otherwise, ftp-master might be a bit quick to reject the
package.

I do it for text-pattern: I just create the empty database and let the
installation scripts (a bit patched) do the remaining. This is quite
intrusive and difficult to maintain: textpattern was also trying to
create the database. Since this is not the case for phpmyvisites, you
can try to just create an empty database with dbconfig-common and let
phpmyvisites handle the remaining installation procedure.

Well, mentors is a good place for all kind of questions. And webapps is
a good place too since we are talking about a webapp.

Bug#482361: mk-build-deps: don't use equivs

2008-05-21 Thread Felipe Sateler
Package: devscripts
Version: 2.10.27
Severity: wishlist

Not using equivs would be great. I have patched mk-build-deps to not
use it, but to avoid parsing of arch-specific dependencies (which I
presume equivs did previously) I used Dpkg::Deps instead.
It cannot be used while reading from apt-cache, but I think that using
apt-cache to get information instead of debian/control isn't useful
anyway.

Attached is a patch that does this (rather hacky).

Can you tell me why this file is missing? Perhaps the output of this
command would help (use sudo or run as root for proper permissions):

ls -lR /var/cache/apt-p2p/apt-packages

Also, if you could send the
/var/cache/apt-p2p/apt-packages/mirrors/emacs.orebokech.com:80/packages.db
file it would probably help too. It doesn't contain anything but a
listing of what should be in the the apt-packages directory (i.e.
nothing sensitive).

Thanks,
Cameron

Bug#482305: xen-disabled image?

2008-05-21 Thread Babstar
There is no problem with the Nvidia script, the problem is Nvidia does
not support xen kernels.
I'm all for a better solution to this problem, however, a huge number of
users have *no choice* as to which video card is installed in their
machines, are being penalized. Many others purchased cards on the basis
of previous support.
I would love Nvidia to open source their drivers, however no amount of
pressure seems to work...
Perhaps an alternative solution is for an explicitly xen-disabled
linux-image, allowing the nvidia module to be built, so users don't have
to reconfigure & recompile their own kernel.

Because they were originally translatable..:-)

Actually, thinking deeper, you could have left them translatable. That
still works as debconf will always return the English version on
Select templates even when choices are translated.

Anyway, I corrected my translation to make the choices names appear.

Bug#482153: linux-image-2.6-686: Driver b43 fails to recover from hibernate

2008-05-21 Thread Bhaskar S. Manda
I have also installed up-to-date firmware as specified at linuxwireless.org:
   b43 -> 4.150.10.5
   b43legacy -> 3.130.20.0

b43legacy doesn't do anything; the wireless device, wlan0, only
appears when b43 is loaded. In any event, the kernel autoloader loads
the right one automatically anyway.

The standard linux-image packages do not build the old bcm43xx
drivers, so I haven't tried those yet.

Bug#315669: Followup on libcgi-session-perl bug

2008-05-21 Thread Martín Ferrari
Hi,

while trying to isolate the described bug, I found that what was
happening is that Storable is causing Perl to segfault. I don't know
why aren't you seeing it, but I can consistently reproduce it as
described in http://bugs.debian.org/482355

With this short snippet I can make it fail:

perl -e 'use CGI; use CGI::Session; my $cgi = new CGI(); our $session
=  CGI::Session->new("driver:file;serializer:storable", $cgi,
{Directory=>"/tmp"});'

I'd suggest, as a workaround, to force your CGI::Session object to be
destroyed before the program ends. Also, as documented, you should be
calling flush() explictly. So this should solve your problem by now:

$session->flush();
undef $session;

Cheers, Tincho.

Hi, while trying to solve #315669, I discovered a bug in Storable, which
segfaults when called during global destruction. In the upstream bug
report you can find the test case and more information. I'm already
tagging upstream, since I could reproduce this in many other operating
systems.

Thanks.

Bug#482354: mutt: Why doesn't TAB completion editing work when changing Fcc: when it works on save to folder?

2008-05-21 Thread s. keeling
Package: mutt
Version: 1.5.13-1.1etch1
Severity: wishlist

Hi. I am surprised not to see this in the buglist (or maybe I missed
it, sorry).

When I'm saving a message, I type "s", I'm presented with a dialogue
that responds to tab completion. "=fa" returns "=family".

Why doesn't this work in the header editor, the bit after executing
$EDITOR and are back in mutt? I type "f" to change the Fcc: header,
and TAB is just dumb old TAB, drat.

Thanks for your efforts! Hasn't the ssh/ssl thing been fun? :-|

Bug#482352: libpam-runtime: login for nonexistent user fails without password prompt

2008-05-21 Thread Nicholas Fleisher
Package: libpam-runtime
Version: 0.99.7.1-6
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

At console login, an invalid username will cause the login procedure to
fail *before* it prompts you for a password. (I only discovered this
because I accidentally mistyped my username.) This allows someone to
discover, without ever logging in, whether a given username exists on
the system or not. Seems like an important security issue. The exact
same issue cropped up on Arch Linux last fall (Nov 2007), where it was
determined to be a libpam problem. I don't know enough to know which
libpam package precisely is involved, but I only have three on my
system: libpam-modules, libpam-runtime, libpam0g, all with the same
maintainer, so hopefully this is getting to the right person.

Relevant Arch bug report:
http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/8742

Apologies if I've reported this as too severe: it was dealt with as high
severity in Arch, and seems like a major issue to this layman. Wish I
could tell you more, but as far as I can tell that's the extent of the
problem; everything works just fine if you login with a name that exists
on the system.

Bug#482350: htag: Miscalculation of text width when processing Unicode characters

2008-05-21 Thread Ben Finney
Package: htag
Version: 0.0.23-2
Severity: normal

My collection of tag files is slowly being converted to UTF-8, and
'htag' is miscalculating the text width when formatting taglines that
contain Unicode characters.

Using this signature template (the '=' delimits the file content
in this message and is not part of the file):

=
--
 \@64R@ |
  `\ @64R@ |
_o__) @64R@ |
Ben Finney
=

I've attached this signature template, along with two sample tagline
files, 'wright.tag' and 'dna.tag'.

The following output was generated using the tagfile 'wright.tag',
which contains no non-ASCII characters:

=
--
\"I was in Las Vegas, at the roulette table, having a furious |
`\ argument over what I considered to be an odd number." -- |
_o__)Steven Wright |
Ben Finney
=

The following output was generated using the tagfile 'dna.tag', which
contains Unicode characters in every tagline:

=
--
\ “[On the Internet,] power and control will shift to those who |
`\ are actually contributing something useful rather than just |
_o__)having lunch.” —Douglas Adams |
Ben Finney
=

The first example is fine; the lines all occupy the specified with in
the template.

The second is incorrectly formatted: it seems the width of the
characters has been incorrectly calculated, resulting in text
occupying less space than specified in the template.

When you're implementing this, please add a --no-triggers option (or
something like that) to apt. This will be useful for things like d-i

Bug#482349: acpi-support: missing wireless on asus v2

2008-05-21 Thread graziano
Package: acpi-support
Version: 109-1
Severity: normal

Hello there,

I had to uninstall acpi-support because the last version (109-1) turned
off my wireless (iwl4965) for good at boot time, and since I am under
a project deadline I found more convenient to disable it. Uninstalling it
fixed the problem.

Descritption of the problem: the machine boots normally, soon the led of
the wireless comes on, and stays on for quite a bit, then it will turn
off (before I get console login or graphical login) and I cannot turn it
on anylonger. It may be a bad interaction with the iwl4965 (from latest
debian kernel 2.6.25 but locally compiled), which seems to refuse to
turn the radio on once turned off.

Hope you this report make sense to you, since I missed acpi-support :)

cheers

Bug#482348: ldapdns seemingly randomly stops responding

2008-05-21 Thread Jamie Thompson
Package: ldapdns
Version: 2.06-3.3
Severity: normal

I use ldapdns with djb's dnscache for my network, accessing a LDAP server on
localhost.

Periodically, ldapdns just seems to stop responding, with DNS requests failing
to resolve, both on remote clients as well as directly on the server via
localhost.

This then prevents dhcp clients working properly as the hostnames specifed in
the leases cannot be resolved and chaos comes to town. Luckily, the client DNS
caches usually give me enough time to notice and restart the service before
that happens, but not always.

I've worked on this, but have been unsuccesful so far. The libosp5 package
builds and works fine on all other architectures, and essentially nothing has
changed in the code since 1.5.2-3. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Bug#297317: Hook script

2008-05-21 Thread Jamie Thompson

I use the execute patch at home with some custom LDAP-editing shell scripts,
and it works quite nicely.

It does however mean that I have to merge the patch into the source package every time there's an important update though, which given that I also
used the LDAP config patch ( now thankfully available pre-packaged as http://packages.debian.org/lenny/dhcp3-server-ldap ), made for a painful merge
that as such only got performed when a dependency issue raised it's head (case in point, I'm still running 3.0.4-12).

Well, another dependency issue has occurred (libldap/dhcp3-server-ldap/perl/cyrus-admin/etc) so a rebuild is on the cards and and I'd like to
resurrect this old bug, as whilst I now only have to merge the execute patch in, it does still leave me with non-standard packages littered about,
which is less than ideal, especially since this functionality is so incredibly useful.

Looking this over, I'm concerned that this translation may not have been
what you intended. It looks like the literal choices here are still being
translated, which means that the user would see options mentioned in the
text that aren't available in the select (which can't be translated
because it's literal command-line options to the server).

Could you check to see if this is correct?

Hi - I just figured out that it is a missing dependency of lib32nss-mdns

someone else already did that. Just want to confirm that this is the

Bug#482345: grub-install fails to read /boot/grub/stage1

2008-05-21 Thread Nicolas Évrard
Package: grub
Version: 0.97-39
Severity: important

Hello,

I'm trying to switch from lilo to grub on my macbook.
As per [1], I made sure the gpt/mbr table are in sync:

kinder:/etc# gptsync /dev/sda

Current GPT partition table:
 # Start LBA End LBA Type
 1 40 409639 EFI System (FAT)
 2 409640 88490023 Mac OS X HFS+
 3 88752168176832551 EFI System (FAT)
 4 176832552234441607 Basic Data

Current MBR partition table:
 # AStart LBA End LBA Type
 1 1 409639 ee EFI Protective
 2 409640 88490023 af Mac OS X HFS+
 3 * 88752168176832551 ef EFI System (FAT)
 4 176832552234441607 0b FAT32

Status: Tables are synchronized, no need to sync.

Anyway grub-install fails to read /boot/grub/stage1

kinder:~# grub-install "(hd0)"
Searching for GRUB installation directory ... found: /boot/grub
The file /boot/grub/stage1 not read correctly.

Using find in the grub shell does not work either:

grub> find stage1

Bug#482326: krb5: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update

Hi Christian,

If this is the right thing to do for translation, I don't want to
second-guess you, but I did want to double-check just to be sure. On
the templates below, the strings "nopreauth", "full", "disable", and
"none" are command-line arguments to the KDC and must be exactly that.
However, they appear to be translated in your translation.

Was that intentional? I was assuming that translations would want to keep
the literal strings since people have to use that value (if, say, they
change /etc/default/krb5-kdc by hand), but I may be missing a subtlety
here. Note that the options in select aren't translated, because of this
constraint, so the references in these templates won't match the options
the user is presented with if they're translated.

Bug#482336: keyjnote: crashes while displaying a PDF file which renders fine in Xpdf

2008-05-21 Thread Yaroslav Halchenko
didn't reproduce the bug -- went through ok - didn't stall at any
slide... didn't crash after...

lets first verify that your /tmp/ had sufficient amount of space ;) and
then your RAM (and virtual memory) -- total amount of VRAM needed for
caching your presentation is around 460MB. not sure what was max size of
rendered page -- but I guess it would be great if your /tmp had at least
100MB free?

Bug#46084: xmcd: old bug no longer present

2008-05-21 Thread Jason Cormie
Package: xmcd
Followup-For: Bug #46084

unlike the ancient report from 1999, xmcd does seem to behave these days
and respect the options saved by the user.

I've looked in both debian and upstream changelogs and can't see
anything specifically fixing this, but a lot of time has passed and code
has changed.

I think this bug should be closed.

I'm interested in IPv6 support too, in the form of uploads of 3.1pre to

Bug#418889: Nouveau packaging

2008-05-21 Thread Christopher James Halse Rogers
I'm RAOF, maintainer of the Ubuntu PPA mentioned earlier. I've recently
changed the libdrm package in my PPA to produce a module-assistant using
drm-modules-source package, which might make inclusion in experimental a
bit easier.

Speaking with upstream, they very much do not want the 3d portion
shipped at all, anywhere. It doesn't just need a git snapshot of mesa,
it needs a git snapshot of a branch of the experimental gallium-0.1
branch of mesa. Accordingly, I don't ship the 3d portion in my PPA, and
it would be courteous to not ship it in experimental.

I'd be happy to help push to experimental, but I don't currently have a
bare-metal Sid install, so driver testing is a little difficult!

Description : Firmware loader for M-Audio DFU audio devices

This packages allows you to use M-Audio's DFU audio devices
with Linux. These devices require a firmware download before
an operating system driver (e.g. ALSA's snd-usb-audio) can
 access them.
 .
 Supported devices:
  - Sonica
  - Ozone
  - MobilePre USB (some newer models work without the loader)
  - Transit
The loader is not required for some newer models of the above devices,
 like the Ozone Academic.

Bug#482339: po-debconf: podebconf-report-po uses poor HELO hostname

2008-05-21 Thread Russ Allbery
Package: po-debconf
Version: 1.0.13
Severity: normal

podebconf-report-po, when sending mail via the local server, appears to
use a HELO string of the unqualified local hostname. This isn't a valid
argument to HELO per the SMTP standard as I understand it; I believe
HELO requires a fully-qualified domain name. Postfix configured to
reject non-FQDN HELOs (which is a helpful anti-spam measure that stops
quite a bit of bogus mail) therefore rejects the mail.

The fix is probably as simple as using hostname --long instead, but I
haven't looked at the code.

Bug#475932: The newest gkrellmd is trying to replace my working init.d with the problem described here

2008-05-21 Thread Daniel Dickinson
Package: gkrellmd
Version: 2.3.1-2
Followup-For: Bug #475932

I'm in the process of running apt-get upgrade and have been prompted to replace
my /etc/init.d/gkrellmd. The diff reports

- start-stop-daemon --start --quiet \
- --exec $DAEMON -- --pidfile /var/run/$NAME.pid $DAEMON_OPTS
+ start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --pidfile /var/run/gkrellmd.pid \
+ --exec $DAEMON -m -b -- $DAEMON_OPTS
echo "$NAME."
;;
   stop)
echo -n "Stopping $DESC: "
- start-stop-daemon --stop --quiet --pidfile /var/run/$NAME.pid \
- --exec $DAEMON
+ start-stop-daemon --stop --quiet --pidfile /var/run/$NAME.pid
+

My start is correct, the one that is trying to be put in won't work. Putting
--pidfile as an option to start-stop-daemon for an application that deamonizes
on it's own (like gkrellmd) rather than using start-stop-daemon --background
will fail to create the pidfile because start-stop-daemon see the daemonized
process as having exited and thus not having a pid (even though it is really in
the background, not a true exit).

grekllm takes --pidfile as an argument and can create the necessary pidfile
without start-stop-daemon, and that is what I do.

I do need such a web-application. Until smbledger is ready I'll continue
to maintain sql-ledger in a low-maintenance mode.

Thus I transform this bug into a RFH (Request for help) so that if anyone
want to take over the responsibility of this package, he can.

I just uploaded the latest upstream version to sid. If you want to be
removed from the Maintainer field, let me know.

Cheers,

Bug#453487: Severity of "should this package be orphaned/removed" bugs

2008-05-21 Thread Nico Golde
Hi Anibal,
you marked this bug as pending quite some time ago and I
heard rumours a new upstream version was uploaded to NEW.

What happened to this upload?

Kind regards
Nico

Bug#482337: linux-image-2.6.24-1-amd64: rfkill switch doesn't work with iwl4965 driver

2008-05-21 Thread Marco Zaccheria
Package: linux-image-2.6.24-1-amd64
Version: 2.6.24-6
Severity: important

The rfkill switch doesn't work, so I can't use my iwl4965 card. It's
strange because my Debian system doesn't work also with a custom Vanilla kernel
(2.6.25-4) that
I've prevously used on Etch (while now I've installed Lenny from
scratch) and that did work on that system. And this kernel worked also
after a migration of the Etch machine to Lenny (updating the sources.list for
the migration), so it seems
not to be stricly related to the Kernel (it worked for me).
I've tried using different versions of firmware (the one included in the
"non-free" branch and all others downloaded from Intel web site), but
nothing happened.
I'm using successfully this card with other Distros (kernel 2.6.24)
This is my lsmod:

And...

cat /sys/bus/pci/devices/*/rf_kill

So it is disabled. Note that the switch is phisically at the "RFKILL

Thank you

Bug#482336: keyjnote: crashes while displaying a PDF file which renders fine in Xpdf

2008-05-21 Thread Francesco Poli
Package: keyjnote
Version: 0.10.2-1
Severity: important

Hi!
Thanks for maintaining keyjnote in Debian!

I think I found a bug, though.
Steps to reproduce:

  * download the following PDF presentation (from
http://e-privacy.winstonsmith.info/2004/interventi.html)

   $ wget http://e-privacy.winstonsmith.info/2004/atti/ep2004-Poli-remailers.pdf
   $ keyjnote ep2004-Poli-remailers.pdf

  * wait for the first slide to show up
  * click on the screen with the middle mouse button

the screen is subdivided in small thumbnails of the various slides,
which are gradually rendered as the caching process goes on.

  * wait for the caching process to complete

the caching process seems to hang on the slide titled
_Debolezza: pinger incoerenti_ and never seems to complete

  * click on the above-mentioned slide

  the slide shows up

  * press the spacebar in order to move to next slide

  boom!
the program crashes with the following error messages:

Bug#143307: dpkg: Also experiencing this crash after trying to upgrade my SID, which pulled in the Perl upgrades

2008-05-21 Thread Gunter Ohrner
Am Mittwoch, 21. Mai 2008 schrieb Raphael Hertzog:
> How did you get out the problematic situation?

Good question - I did several things at once and I don't know which
helped. Sorry, I'm not sure which of these measured really helped. :-( I
fear I've been "the" typical user in this regard

- I waited a few days before trying to upgrade again, as my system was
still running, I had to rely on it for a few days and didn't want to
mess it up completely during that time.

- I manually downgraded dpkg, which worked to my surprise.

- I'm not sure if I did anything else which could have affected the
upgrade. Maybe I also manually configured a bunch of packages with
problematic dependencies for removal using aptitude.

When I upgraded the system one or two weeks later using the older dpkg
version, the upgrade succeeded.

Maybe updated perl packages fixed something?

Greetings,

  Gunter

Is autoaudiosink not working in some actual case? If so, I think we
should address that with the GStreamer folks. While I think they can
probably be removed, we do also offer the ESD and ALSA settings. It
seems to me that people that aren't running under GNOME don't want to be
going into gconf to change their settings, assuming they even have
gconfd installed in the first place.

Yes, same here. Looks like some deprecated package for kde
libs. I couldn't find that either in current source
packages. Marco, where did you get this information?

Having revisited the -dpkg thread on quilt packages (which I vaguely
remember reading at the time), I realised that one of the problems was
that I was building the packages with dpkg-buildpackage rather than
dpkg-source -b so the diffs were skewed to start with.

After some further experimentation with converting a quilt-using package
to the new format and then modifying it, the change makes much more
sense :-) I'll commit a patch shortly; testing welcome.

Blocking appropriately. Thanks for finding out yourself.

This also explains why I wasn't able to reproduce this, I only have
stable and unstable systems, not testing.

Greetings
Marc

Thanks a lot. It's committed.

I unfortunately had to add a new string. Thus I'm sending the updated
ru.po

If you have time to translate this string before this week-end, that would
be great.

Thanks in advance,

checks for non-emptyness of the signal string, I suppose.

Which shell executes this, and which version of lsb-base do you have
installed?

Ok, the -n is bogus, and a bit more digging shows that this is actually
bug 478871 (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=478871)

That just hasn't migrated to testing yet which it happens to be
installed. Sorry for the noise.
