Moreover, those are info needed by the maintainer to know what packages are installed on your system, so cutting off some of the package name or description is usually safe, since the maint knows enught about the package to map the cutted name to the real package name. Anyhow, what would be your suggestion? take the whole dpkg -l and use it for the report? When attempting to execute the command fakechroot fakeroot debootstrap --arch i386 --variant=fakechroot etch target I receive the message W: Failure trying to run: chroot /path/to/target dpkg --force-depends --install var/cache/apt/archives/base-files_4_i386.deb var/cache/apt/archives/base-passwd_3.5.11_i386.deb The contents of the target's /debootstrap/debootstrap.log are: dpkg: /home/zpalmer/sandbox/ztemp2/test7/lib/tls/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.4' not found (required by /usr/lib32/libfakeroot/libfakeroot-sysv.so) This leads me to believe that it either has something to do with the way debootstrap executes the fakechroot variant or something to do with how the fakeroot package is built. Either way, this prevents cross-platform fakechroot debootstraps. I still panics on boot, even with the scanner disconnected. There appears to be some difficulty with the interaction of the st tape driver and the megraid_mbox driver (assuming the problem isn't the st tape driver period, though I'd expect you'd already have more bug reports if that was the case, and the panic output on the screen says that the problem is in the megraid_mbox driver, though I can't see the entire panic due to it being larger than a single screen). Specifically, on line 140: 140:if ($this->{'cmp'} ? $this->{'cmp'}->($key, $node->key) < 0 141: : $key lt $parent->key) { 142: $parent->left($node); If you are using a custom compare function, it needs to compare $key to $parent->key, not $node->key. Package: debhelper Version: 7.0.15 Severity: normal File: /usr/bin/dh dh_auto_clean didn't seem to be called often enough in my real program, so I wrote a little script to make a test package "x" and run dpkg-buildpackage in it, twice. Various information, logs and a stack trace of the lockup here: http://bugs.digium.com/view.php?id=13192 I'm choosing severity "grave" because this effectively will allow someone calling in with particlar caller ID options/flags to lock up your PRI span on demand (i.e. DoS). Well, this is definitely a very nasty bug but from a release prespective I'd like to point out two things: a) You are one of the _very_ few people to experience this deadlock; I've experienced it once or twice in one of my (many!) installations all this time and noone else has reported it so far. Perhaps it has something to do with what the network sends to Asterisk, I'm not so sure myself. b) Asterisk is a very complicated program with dozens of threads and locks between them. I don't think we (as in, Debian) can solve this and I highly doubt that upstream will, at least in time for lenny. In summary, while I acknowledge that this breaks your setup -and believe me, I'd like to have this fixed as much as you do- I don't think it's a release critical bug and that it should prevent Asterisk from being shipped with our next stable release. Bug#493059: nfs with more than 16 groups. --manage-gids
Package: nfs-kernel-server Version: 1.0.10-6+etch.1 Severity: Wishlist Hi, The NFS protocol cannot transfer more than 16 groups which a user is member of. so when you have some directories that you can only access as member of a special group and you are in more than 16 groups, then access to that directories will not be granted. This is extremly hard to debug. I had this problem myself for several years now and worked around it by running applications by ssh -X on servers instead of on clients. The last days i wrote several debugging programs and finally found out, that depending on the amount of groups i am in, access will be granted or not. then suddenly i found information on the internet. there users said they also had such problems for years. some even claim "they switched back to windows" :-) The problem here definitly is that there is no information. you don't even find anything in nfs manpages or in configuration files. i think it is pretty common to be member of more than 16 groups today. It should be noted, that the problem exists in all versions of nfs, also in nfs4. i tested it. The only chance to get away with that problem is to add the "--manage-gids" option or "-g" to rpc.mountd. then it works - again in all nfs versions. also nfs4. I would say that option should be the default, but i found a debian bug report saying that then mac os x hangs on mounting that share. that should be checked. So my wish is: 1) the kernel (i don't know if client or server) MUST put some error message in the syslog like "nfs client: can only transfer 16 member groups. dropping some groups. expect random failures. Add --manage-gids to rpc.mountd" or so. Just a hint that there is something going wrong and what to google for! instead you are left alone without any kind of information at all. that's really bad! 2) --manage-gids should be default option 3) nfs in debian-etch should also support --manage-gids, not just in debian lenny. cya! erik -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#486974: Patch
tag 486974 patch thanks dp2dpGuBLm is a static function defined in camm_dpa.h. It contains an asm statement that defines some labels. It's inlined multiple times into the function that calls it. Since it defines the labels each time it's inlined, this causes the errors. If the compiler is GCC, camm_dpa.h attempts to prevent this behavior by defining a nested function within dp2dpGuBLm, but this doesn't work. GCC has supported a noinline attribute since at least 3.1.1 (but not 3.0.4) to specify that a function should not be inlined. Bug#493056: [python-odtwriter] The python-odtwriter is not correctly sizing images.
Package: python-odtwriter Version: 1.3a-1 Severity: normal Tags: patch --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Odt writer is making mistakes about images in documents. The big one is that it's not calculating the correct size of the image. Steps to reproduce the bug: ### 1. Create a rst document with a image directive. The image itself is going to be 300dpi and 1500 by 1125 pixels in jpeg format. This creates a high-detailed image suitable for printing. Printers are much higher resolution devices then computer displays and thus require much higher resolution images in order to keep the image from being crappy looking. Higher resolution meaning higher density of pixels. 2. use rst2odt to create a odt version of the file. What should happen: ### The odt document created should create a document were the image is 5 by 3.75 inches. What does happen: # If you do not specify a scale or height and width option to the image directive then it creates very tiny images. Something like .22 inches square or something like that. Not sure how this happens. If you give a height and width data for the image directive then you end up with a massive image that spans the entire width of the page. One temporary fix: ## Only use images with very low resolutions.. like 96dpi. This is perfectly suitable to digital formats and displays, but is poor for anything that needs to be printed. My dirty hack: ## It seems that rst2latex gets this right and gets the image sizing correct. Maybe you want to look to them and see how it's done. But this is my 'fix':: /usr/share/pyshared/docutils/writers/odtwriter$ diff __init__.py init.old 1788,1796c1788,1790 < if ('width' not in node.attributes or 'height' not in < node.attributes): < < # Ok, I've modified this to give me width and height based on the < # DPI. not sure what the magic number 0.035278 is suppose to be < # for, so I got rid of it. I am pulling the DPI from the image using the PIL library then calculating the size and converting it to centimeters. So far this works for me, but I wouldn't be suprised if it causes problems for others. Other related issues and suggestions: # There is some niggling issues with how the images are set in the page. Sometimes if 2 large images are next to each other they end up fighting over the available page space and one ends up get shoved over the edge of the margins into 'unprintable' page space. What should happen is if 2 images are too large to fit together then you just end up with a page with a single image on it, then another page with the second image, followed by the text that is suppose to follow it. What may be a better fix to do is fix the restructured text stuff to allow users to specify DPI or 'density' of their images. The width and height stuff being measured in pixels is misleading since the actual physical size isn't ever going to be measured by pixels. This is one of those things that can be difficult to get right. The 'standard' for internet images and computer images is going to default to '96 dpi' since that is what the vast majority of the world's displays default to since they are using Microsoft Windows. This is fine. However modern OSes have the ability to scale their UI elements to match the display resolution. So if you have a circle that is one inch wide on a 7 inch display with 800x480 resolution (that's a small, high resolution display) it will still be a one inch circle on a 17 inch monitor with 1024x768 resolution (that's a large, low resolution display). So I don't know if it would be better to add a density option and default to 96dpi if user specifies wid

Bug#493053: /dev/kvm device access
Package: kvm Version: 71+dfsg-1 Severity: wishlist It would be nice if there was a standard way for users to get write access to /dev/kvm, without running kvm itself as root. The typical debian method, I guess would be to create a "kvm" group and use that group for /dev/kvm. Then one could give a normal user kvm access by adding them to the "kvm" group. I did this manually just to see if it would work: $ sudo addgroup kvm $ sudo chgrp kvm /dev/kvm $ sudo adduser miles kvm things seemed to work ok after that. Bug#493051: biococoa.app: Contents do not match name and description.
Package: biococoa.app Version: 1.6.0-7+b1 Severity: important Hi all, in the course of reviewing the Debtags for all our packages, I realised that there is a misunderstanding with biococoa.app. Its description corresponds to the library, but the package (source and binary actually only contain the demo application SequenceConverter. I really think that we should rename the binary package and change its description in Sid and Lenny. We can then add the missing library code in Sid, keeping biococoa.app as source package name and making two binary packages, biococoa.app and sequenceconverter.app. What is your opinion? (I volunteer for the work if you agree). We would probably need a bit of conflicts/replaces/provides magic. PS: we can of course wait for the end of Debconf to take a final decision. Bug#493047: dansguardian: Dansguardian fails with 'basic_string::_S_construct NULL not valid" on start
Package: dansguardian Version: 2.9.9.4-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable system: linksys NSLU2 with USB hard drive and USB NIC function: firewall for LAN bug: after clean install dansguardian will not start, init script gives the following: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ /etc/init.d/dansguardian start Starting DansGuardian: dansguardianbasic_string::_S_construct NULL not valid Error parsing the dansguardian.conf file or other DansGuardian configuration files failed! And yes, I have already commented out the UNCONFIGURED line at the top of dansguardian.conf. I saw this error and tried messing around with dansguardian.conf, changing anything that looked like it might have something to do with this error. Didn't fix anything. I did a clean reinstall after purge and still see the same error. Googled the error message and it pulled up a bunch of c++ pages so I figured this one would be out of my depth. Bug#493045: Segmentation Fault in cron console PHP Job
Package: php5 Version: 5.2.6-2 Hi there, exactly since we upgraded to this package we get intermittent Segmentation Faults from two cron jobs each running a php skript every 5 minutes. During the last 7 days this happened 20 times. The scripts have not changed for months now and they ran without any problem at all. One example (content of the cron status mail): /bin/sh: line 1: 13954 Segmentation fault /sbin/mailbox_watcher >>/var/log/mailbox_watcher.log This mailbox watcher does some checks on a mysql DB and synchronizes possible changes with the filesystem on the harddrive. Nothing special and it seems that most of the time (99%) everything runs fine. What is also confirmed is that it does not depend on the code cases that are executed, this means it does not depend whether the check skript returns without having to synchronize or after doing so. I am simply not able to reproduce it. Although it keeps happening. Any thoughts on that? If you see any procedure, logs, etc I could try to narrow the problem down with, pls let me know. One word about the complexity of the two skripts. They are totally different. The one is just a "dirty" procedural code, the other is more object oriented with a class defined. See the first lines of this skript below: > #!/usr/bin/php5 > > define('_UNDEFINED',0); > define('_FATAL',1); > define('_CRITICAL',2); > define('_WARNING',3); > define('_INFO',4); > > define('_EXITTHRESHOLD',2); > > define('_CRLF',"\n"); > > class checkAuthDB { > > var $ident; > var $conf; > var $dblinks; > var $lastrun; > var $user; > var $logIsOpen; > var $logfp; > > function __construct($ident) { > > (...) Bug#493044: rsyslog: enable gssapi-krb5 authentication
Package: rsyslog Version: 3.18.1-3gss Severity: wishlist I haven't filed many Debian bug reports, hope this ends up in the right place. Please consider enabling GSSAPI input and output in the rsyslog package. The upstream package supports it. Enabling GSSAPI is pretty simple (adding --enable-gssapi-krb5 to the ./configure line). I built a version of the debian package that enables GSSAPI input and output by doing the following: - added --enable-gssapi-krb5 to the ./configure line - adding debian/tmp/usr/lib/rsyslog/omgssapi.so to rsyslog.install GSSAPI is entirely optional (but it's very nice for people who already have a kerberos infrastucture), so it seems reasonable to add the option for rsyslog. Perhaps it might be added as an 'rsyslog-gssapi' sub package. Bug#490193: this package is not in release state
severity 490193 grave thanks Hello there! trac-bzr currently in debian does not support trac 0.11, the version that will be shipped with lenny. This will make trac-bzr unusable. As this bug report states, there is a version that is not yet officially accepted by bazaar, and the maintainer will not package it until that happens (what i think is ok). best regards, Luis Matos -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#493042: mysql-query-browser: Process hangs connecting to remote database
Package: mysql-query-browser Version: 5.0~rc12-2.2 Severity: important mysql-query-browser hangs on attempting to connect to a remote database. Strace follows. Server version is MySQL-shared-enterprise-gpl-5.0.50-0.rhel4 MySQL-server-enterprise-gpl-5.0.50-0.rhel4 on a RHEL4.0 x86-64 system. 'status' on server shows: mysql Ver 14.12 Distrib 5.0.50, for redhat-linux-gnu (x86_64) using readline 5.0 On starting, a connection dialog prompting for Server Hostname, Port, Username, Password, and Default Schema is presented. On entering apropriate values, the dialog disappears. No further dialogs/windows appear. Strace shows the mysql-query-browser process hanging reading fd3, "EAGAIN (Resource temporarially unavailable). Process must eventually be terminated by the user. It _is_ possible to access the server using the 'mysql' commandline client both from server host itself, and remotely. 500 lines of strace follow: stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1017, ...}) = 0 stat64("/etc/lo
Bug#492958: libc6: fails to install if nspluginwrapper is installed
Hi, Could you please send me the output of: dpkg -l nspluginwrapper dpkg -s nspluginwrapper I've seen an error like this before and it was due to using alien to convert a Red Hat/Fedora package to Debian format and using that. FWIW, I've recently updated libc6 successfully with nspluginwrapper installed so suspect use of alien. Bug#492918: [PANIC][REGRESSION] linux-image-2.6.25-2-amd64: kernel fails to mount root on LVM2
Debian Bug Tracking System wrote: Thank you for filing a new Bug report with Debian. I also found the large-memory hack enough, even if I the problem didn't went away by itself when upgrading to 22.8-6. I also think that the fix, as it is now, will not help people upgrading from etch to lenny since their /etc/lilo.conf files will not contain 'large-memory' and the upgrade will not add it. Would it be possible to insert that option into lilo.conf, after asking the user to confirm that action? I know that modifying conf files is RC, but lilo.conf is not part of the package, so modifying it after confirmation seems ok, doesn't it? -- Regards, EddyP -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#493035: include gtk-qt-engine on KDE desktop
Package: gtk-qt-engine Severity: wishlist I have noticed gtk-qt-engine is currently not available on lenny (although it is on etch and sid). I suppose you're going to include it.
