Thanks for work! One moment, though:

It seems you have not run msginit to produce correct info in this place.
Can you update the .po to fix this?

can you post the whole file? Maybe this is being overriden by a
.gbp.conf in the repo itself?

Bug#500430: gconf2: gconfd-2 not shutting down after user's logout

2008-09-28 Thread Juan Miguel Corral Cano
Package: gconf2
Version: 2.22.0-1
Severity: important

>From http://www.gnome.org/projects/gconf:

gconfd keeps me from unmounting my home directory, how can I get it to exit?

It should exit a couple of minutes after the last application using GConf has
exited.
You could put a "gconftool --shutdown" in your .logout script or the like,
if you want it to exit sooner.

Gconfd-2 will stay alive for about 30 secs after user has logged out.
Well, if you have nfs4 mounted homes, then debian will hang indefinitely
when you shutdown via gnome, since it will be unable to unmount the
filesystem because gconfd-2 is using it.
I am experiencing this on my network.

I think the best solution is to make gconfd-2 be shut down when
user logs out.

I have tried putting the line
gconftool-2 --shutdown
on /etc/gdm/PostSession/Default, but doesn't work.

Bug#500431: popularity-contest: cronned in daily instead of (announced on) weekly

2008-09-28 Thread William Dode
Package: popularity-contest

Severity: important

The cron used for popularity-contest is now cron.daily
On the man page it says weekly :
"Normally, popularity-contest is run from a cron(8) job,

It affect popbugs on debian-goodies package when popbugs is run before
popularity-contest (the data is missing).
Then popbugs says :
"Try running /etc/cron.weekly/popularity-contest by
hand to collect some data."

I don't know if i should report the bug on debian-goodies package...

Bug#500432: popbugs: popularity contest not more run on cron.weekly

2008-09-28 Thread William Dode
Package: debian-goodies
Version: 0.47
Severity: normal

When popbugs is run before the first run of popularity-contest it says
to run it from cron.weekly but popularity-contest is now run from
cron.daily (popularity-contest bug number 50043 because the man page of
it says also weekly)

If we change it to says to run popularity-contest from cron.daily it
will still not work since popularity-contest is configured to run only
on one fixed day (/etc/popularity-contest.conf DAY="2")

Don't know how to join this bug from theses two packages...

This is getting weird. Did you check if the user benp is in the valid
uid range [firstValidUid-lastValidUid]? If he is, it might make sense to
try out the XML backend instead of NSS for testing.

Bug#500434: rezound: Filenames containing UTF-8 characters are not displayed correctly

2008-09-28 Thread Stefan Broetz
Package: rezound
Version: 0.12.3beta-2.2

In an UTF-8 environment, file names containing special characters (e.g.
German umlauts) are not displayed correctly.

The issue went away after rebuilding from source and upgrading the
dependency on libFOX from 1.4 to 1.6.

Bug#496419: please remove convirt and cgiwrap from testing

2008-09-28 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Hi,

Here's a request to remove two security-bugged packages from testing:

convirt:
 * Has security issue spread around the code. There's a patch but
   it's necessarily invasive and untested.
 * No maintainer response to the security bug or any other open bug.
 * Package not in stable, doesn't seem a good idea to introduce it into
   stable when it's unmaintained.

cgiwrap:
 * Security issue with no adequate patch available.
 * Security sensitive application but unmaintained; last maintainer
   upload in 2005.
 * Many newer upstreams available.

thanks,
Thijs

Bug#500410: updated danish debconf po file for the package xawtv, v.2

2008-09-28 Thread Frank Damgaard
Package: xawtv
Version: 3.95.dfsg.1-8
Followup-For: Bug #500410

I checked with different TV-sets, VCR's, etc.
Seems that many either don't have danish og only partial
danish translations, so I must be too used to english

So I have translated the list of tv-systems/languages/region
in the attached updated da.po.

I had a little problem with "..-bcast" (broadcast), but since
the danish wikipedia also uses that word in danish sentences
I have kept "..-bcast" in the translation.

There are also some comments at the end of the file,
thes lines start with "#~" .
I am not quite sure if these line have to be there,
or may be deleted.

There already is a versioned dependency, but it goes the other way, from
clamav-daemon to clamav-base. Introducing one from clamav-base to
clamav-daemon would (besides being incorrect) make a circular dependency,
which Debian has so far been trying to avoid.

Cheers,

 Version: 1.0-1

This package provides two tools for manipulating the IO scheduler:

fincore is a command that shows which pages (blocks) of a file are in core
memory. It is particularly useful for determining the contents of the
buffer-cache.

fadvise is a command used to give file advisory information to the operating
system. Its "--dontneed" option is particularly useful in that it causes the
files' pages (blocks) to be evicted from the buffer-cache.

I personally am not happy with that approach promoted by default
because it runs lintian on the host. I agree it's easy and useful to
do this, but I prefer the approach of running lintian in the build env.
   This is particularly useful when:
 - uploading for another release (preparing an upload for etch from sid,
or for lenny from sid, or for sid from lenny)
 - uploading for another distro (preparing binaries for Ubuntu from
   Debian)

I'm using a hook for this (attached).

I'm happy if we implement both approaches, but I wouldn't like pbuilder
to push people in relying on tools from the host to build packages
which might be targetted at something else.

What software is responsible for unmounting on your system? is it PAM?

I would guess this software needs to wait longer for processes to
 shutdown, such as gconf.

I think gnome-session could try to shutdown gconf, but I'm not sure how
easy that is with the WM also using gconf.

Bug#500157: interim solution for rescue

2008-09-28 Thread Paul Menzel
Dear DDs,

first of all for others who suffer from a similar problem.

1. If you have access to a different computer with a floppy drive or CD
burner, you can use grub-mkrescue or install grub-rescue-pc to get a
floppy or CD to boot your system.

2. If 1 is not applicable, I found the only solution is to find a
computer (or use qemu) where you have installed or can install GRUB
Legacy. Then you can use one of the howtos available on the Internet to
prepare a boot media (e. g. USB drive) to boot your system.

Status update follows in the next message.

First of all, do I understand the commands correctly?

2. To make these changes to take effect, grub-install /dev/md0

Bug#500441: Please document the braille support in the release notes

2008-09-28 Thread Simon Bienlein
Package: release-notes

You can use the Debian Installer very good with a brailledisplay. For
this reason the bootparameter brltty should be documented in the release
notes.

That is interesting if the brailledisplay isn't detected automatically
or if another brailletable shall be used.

If you have choosen an item in the bootmenue then you have to press the
Tab key. Now you find yourself in the line with the standard used
kernelparameters. Further bootparameters can be typed in imediately.

For brltty there is the following syntax:
brltty=driver,device,table

All operands are optional. You can find the detaills to the meaning of
the operands under .

For my brailledisplay I always type in the following:
brltty=ht,ttyS0,de

Thank you very much in advance for the further documentation.

Well it looked promising, but no - the lockup still appears to be
reproducable. The patch I used to test is attached. Let me know if I
made any mistake in backporting it (it should apply cleanly as the
last patch in the debian/patches/series file).

I'll see if I can get a useful backtrace when I have a bit more time
where I can afford to have the phones offline.

Kevin.

I noticed that 1.4.21 -> 1.4.22 cleared quite a few deadlocks (see the
"DEADLOCK_AVOIDANCE" macro).

Can you give a reproducable deadlock scenario?

Bug#483868: DSPAM will not start in daemon mode with this patch applied

2008-09-28 Thread Göran Weinholt
Hi,

I upgraded from 3.6.8-8.1 to 3.6.8-9 yesterday and then the dspam
daemon wouldn't start any more. I suspect the fact that it no longer
runs as root (Bug #483868) is to blame:

Sep 28 12:52:23 industria dspam[5640]: Daemon process starting
Sep 28 12:52:23 industria dspam[5640]: Could not bind to :24: Permission denied
Sep 28 12:52:23 industria dspam[5640]: Daemon mode failed to start
Sep 28 12:52:23 industria dspam[5640]: Daemon process exiting

In the example configuration file, ServerPort is 24.

There *is* a licensing problem that should be solved by at least by
fixing debian/copyright. This is a RC bug (policy violation, doesn't
respect DFSG by requiring the user to be bound to additional license
terms, i.e GPL ones).

You are hiding the problem by downgrading severity.

What I am not sure of is that mixing GPL licensed code and OpenSSL
derived code prevent Python to be distributed in this form or just
programs using both pieces of code to be distributed.

Remeber, my deadlock only occurs when the bristuff patches have been
applied.

I don't know that I can give you an easy way to reproduce it yourself,
but I can certainly reproduce this at will here. All I need to do is

Bug#498761: Almost unusable package

2008-09-28 Thread Vincent Bernat
Hi Jonny!

With this bug, trac-git is "almost" unusable: we cannot click on a
patchset without getting a 500 error. Therefore, only repository
browsing work. Please, consider applying this patch and pushing it to
lenny.

Thanks.

Can you please give a full trace (both 'pri debug span N' and 'core set
verbose/debug' with verbose/debug logging enabled)?

What version do you use exactly?

One string is left fuzzy, still:

#. Type: select

msgid "china-bcast"

Doesn't matter. These lines are "obsolete strings", ie strings that
were used in the past in this file but are no longer used.

If they reappear, keeping them would automatically bring back the
translation they carry, so I generally suggest to not drop them.

Hello.

http://mp3splt.sourceforge.net/mp3splt_page/ says that there's mp3splt-gtk,
which is a graphical front-end for mp3splt. Please package it (as separate
package with mp3splt dependency), and please upgrade both to 2.2 version.

Thanks.

Bug#500295:

2008-09-28 Thread Andrea De Iacovo
Hi

Maybe you're right but the problem is still really not critical.
wp-config.php looks for something like /etc/wordpress/config-$host.php
so my question is: if someone has unauthorized and maliciuos access
to /etc/wordpress (or, maybe, to /etc/*?) is it a wordpress problem?

However I'll try to find a better way to look for the correct
configuration file: maybe reading a local list of authorized config
files?

Thank you for reporting.

Cheers.

Bug#500448: should handle DocBook acronym elements as inline

2008-09-28 Thread W. Martin Borgert
Package: po4a
Version: 0.34-2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Currently po4a makes it hard to translate the sentence:

"We celebrate the GNU Project's 25th Birthday."

because it's split in the po file into three parts:

"We celebrate the" + "GNU" + "Project's 25th Birthday."

So you can't change the word sequence, but in e.g. German it has
to be:

"Wir feiern den 25. Geburtstag des GNU-Projektes."

Patch: Just move the line (~94) of Docbook.pm to the
inline elements (~177).

So I guess d->read_audio() (which is scsi_read_mmc2B() here) for some
reason doesn't fill the buffer, and this result is not checked. And
now I really don't know what to do any further ;-)

Bug#500450: linux-image-2.6.26-1-686: suspend to disk, does not always resume

2008-09-28 Thread Per Andersson
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-686
Version: 2.6.26-5
Severity: important

Resuming from suspend to disk does not work every time. When it fails it
"loads" the image to resume and when done loading prints "Suspending to
console" to the screen then just hangs there.

If I recall correctly it works to resume the first time after a fresh
reboot but the next suspend to disk does not resume correctly. After a
power cycle suspend works again (one time, above behaviour is repeated).

To track that it misses builds for mips/mipsel (which is an regression

Yes, that's quite right. There may have been a time when README.Debian
contained information not available elsewhere, but that's not true any
more.

I'll drop it from the next set of package builds.

Bug#500452: flickrfs: adding user to fuse group not good enough

2008-09-28 Thread clayton
Package: flickrfs
Version: 1.3.9.1-8
Severity: normal

I just tried flickrfs for the first time. Out of the box, I got an
error:

fuse: failed to open /dev/fuse: Permission denied
Please make sure that user is added to the fuse group.

I added myself to the fuse group, logged out, logged back in, and got
exactly the same error. As it turns out, /dev/fuse was only accessible
by root on my system:

crw-rw 1 root root 10, 229 2008-09-28 19:09 /dev/fuse

After changing the group to fuse:

crw-rw 1 root fuse 10, 229 2008-09-28 19:09 /dev/fuse

everything seems to work fine.

Bug#500420: Segmentation fault running kismet_server

2008-09-28 Thread Francois Gurin

I need more information as kismet_server works i386 and armel

Does kismet_server segfault in all configurations or just when connecting to
the drone?

Does this happen when you run kismet_server on i386 debian and point it at the
drone?

Does this happen when you run kismet_drone from the package on i386 (or on the
slug) and use that as a capture source?

Is there anything in your logs? Ar eyou running out of memory?

Can you provide your kismet_server.conf, the version and origin of
kismet_drone, a trace?

Thanks,

Isn't this a bug of our upgrading tools, that should prefer to install a
new, non-obsolete package A that Provides: B, rather than keeping a
no-longer-present-in-the-lists B installed?

Bug#500454: ssmtp: AuthUser/AuthPass visible to all users

2008-09-28 Thread Roger Leigh
Package: ssmtp
Version: 2.62-1
Severity: important

Because ssmtp is run by the user invoking sendmail, its config file is
required to be readable. However, this results in disclosure of the
username/password used for SMTP AUTH on the relaying mail server.

Please consider fixing this.
Example methods:
Add an ssmtp group, change the ownership and permissions of /etc/ssmtp/*
to root:ssmtp 0640 or 0660, and make ssmtp/sendmail root:ssmtp and
setgid so that when run by a user, it runs as group ssmtp and gets
permission to read the file; the user won't ever have permission to
read. You could also use the existing "mail" group, if appropriate.

You could also do this using setuid to root or a ssmtp user, but this is
unnecessary and has potential security implications that a simple setgid
change would not.

This won't require any code changes; it's simply an
ownership/permissions tweak.

Thanks,
Roger

Though I don't push this bug fix to lenny, I'll fix this bug for

Bug#391849: Bug still in testing/unstable: error: invalid use of undefined type 'struct quicktime_s'

2008-09-28 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Hi,

This (RC) bug is still marked as found in testing and unstable. What
happened:
- Bug was reported against 1:0.9.10+debian-2
- 2:0.9.10+debian-3 got uploaded to experimental
- bug got closed in unstable in 2:0.9.7-1

And the current version in unstable is based on the version that got
uploaded to experimental.

I'm guessing this got fixed in 2:1.0.0+debian-1 with the soname change?

This bug is caused by a broken UTF-7 data, and can be prevented by
the new upstream version Mew 6.1 or later. Will fix soon.

Hi Release team,

Version 0.11.5 of ELinks is a new upstream bug-fix release that fixes
some very important bugs over 0.11.4 (already in Lenny).

The complete list of changes from 0.11.4 to 0.11.5 is:

* critical bug 1027 in user SMJS: make elinks.keymaps treat null and
"none" as equivalent actions, avoiding a segfault
* critical bug 1030: an assertion used to fail in the search dialog
on systems that lack a usable
* major bug 503: various fixes in parsing and updating of elinks.conf
* bug 698: Attach controls to the intended form even if it is
incorrectly nested in a table. (Was broken in 0.11.4.)
* build bug 1021: fixed uninitialized variable in http_got_header
* build: don't use libgnutls-openssl, which is no longer GPLv2
  compatible in GnuTLS 2.2.0

One of these (bug 698) is a regression from 0.11.3 to 0.11.4

Would you consider a freeze exception for 0.11.5? I will prepare an
upload in case a freeze exception is granted for 0.11.5.

Cheers,

Possibly. But as long as those tools don't support that it will have to be
solved in the packages themselves.

Feel free to clone the bug to apt/aptitude/whatever if you feel that
should be implemented, but I'd think that would be squeeze material, not

Bug#500457: gimp-ufraw: confused by hugin TIFF output

2008-09-28 Thread Laurentiu Pancescu
Package: gimp-ufraw
Version: 0.13-1+b2
Severity: important

The UFRaw plugin for Gimp wrongly activates itself when I try to load
a TIFF file produced by Hugin in Gimp (UFRaw probably thinks the TIFF
file comes from a camera, but it can't decode it and I can only get a
completely black image in Gimp). I think UFRaw is confused by the
EXIF data that Hugin includes in the generated file, since if I strip
the EXIF data by converting to PNG and back to TIFF with ImageMagick,
I can load the resulting TIFF file without any problems (UFRaw doesn't
automatically appear). I can send you an example TIFF file that
reproduces the problem - is it ok to attach it?

I didn't find any way to prevent gimp-ufraw from activating for a specific
image - the only way seems to uninstall the package (I don't want to convert
the Hugin TIFF two times with ImageMagick every time, it's much too slow on my
old PC, almost 30 minutes for a 40 MP panorama).

No, sorry. As I've previously requested multiple times in duplicate
bugs, if you want to send a patch for this, please make it a patch that
allows the opensc library to be loaded via dlopen. I do not want to be
piggy-in-the-middle in an argument between people who want opensc and
people who don't want to copy more files into their chroots, nor do I
want to maintain another binary package and suffer from combinatorial
explosion.

Please file this as a separate bug so that I can track it effectively.
In general filing multiple patches in the same bug is not a good idea.

Naturally, /dev/audio and /dev/dsp don't exist either. Manually loading
the modules works and creates the devices, though:

Bug#500157: status update

2008-09-28 Thread Paul Menzel
Dear DDs,

I am posting a status update about what I did and what my questions are.

As written before I can boot my system from a CD, where GRUB Legacy is
started from where I have to edit the commands by hand on every boot.

Press 'e' to edit to

root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.26-1-686 root=/dev/mapper/root
initrd /initrd.img-2.6.26-1-686

and then 'b' for boot and this works. I have just the first disk, I
called A before, connected, because I do not know how dm-mod/mdadm would
sync the disks again.

I did

$ sudo grub-install /dev/md0
Installation finished. No error reported.
This is the contents of the device map /boot/grub/device.map.
Check if this is correct or not. If any of the lines is
incorrect,
fix it and re-run the script `grub-install'.

(fd0) /dev/fd0
(hd0) /dev/sda
(hd1) /dev/sdb

and

$ sudo grub-install /dev/sda
Installation finished. No error reported.
This is the contents of the device map /boot/grub/device.map.
Check if this is correct or not. If any of the lines is
incorrect,
fix it and re-run the script `grub-install'.

(fd0) /dev/fd0
(hd0) /dev/sda
(hd1) /dev/sdb

to be sure. Reboot. Still the same problem.

I took a look at my /boot/grub/grub.cfg. I see set root=(md0) in a lot
of places. I looked at /etc/default/grub and /etc/grub.d/ but did not
find (grep -e md0 *) anything where this option is configured.

Than I changed md0 to hd0 in /boot/grub/grub.cfg and than
grub-install /dev/[md0|sda] . Still the same.

Reading [1] I deleted the lines with search and uuid, because I have a
RAID setup, but to no avail. I did also have no success in implementing
the echo $root commands. But I think it does not even get to this point.

In /etc/default/grub I activated

GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true

reading [2], but also no luck. After grub-update there were still lines
containing search and uuid in my /boot/grub/grub.cfg!?

How can I make sure, that grub-install is actually changing something?

Do you have any further suggestions? I will no try out the version in
experimental.

Thanks,

Paul

2008-09-28 Thread Charles Plessy
Subject: installation-reports: No boot after reading help, and no mouse (but
the rest is fine).
Package: installation-reports
Severity: important

Hi,

after reading help, pressing enter does not manage to boot the
installer, but crashes with the following message:

Could not find kernel image: linux

Other problem, the mouse did not work (immobile pointer). I could
install using the tab key however.

Everything else went fine, congratulations. I found the question about
console-setup a bit difficult for non-experts.

Bug#486744: Looks like an epiphany problem, in the end...

thanks

I tried two approaches, one looking much better than the other.

The first patch (the longest one) solves the crash, while apparently
keeping epiphany's zoom behaviour of keeping zoom level on a website,
but changing the zoom level back to 1.0 when going to a new website.

The second patch (the one-liner) solves the crash too, but has odd
behaviour wrt zoom level when going back/forward in history: it keeps
the current zoom level when going on a new website, but will reset to
1.0 when hitting the back and forward buttons.

The first patch sounds like the right fix, though I don't know what
weird side effects could show up.
