Bug#428733: Coming back on this locking problem or samba with executables called from logon scripts

Hello Arno,

While doing a mass bug triage of bugs in the samba package, I went on
the issue you reported in http://bugs.debian.org/428733, where
executable files launched from Windows during logon scripts were kept
locked by samba.

I went on your very very long smb.conf file and first piped it through
testparm so that only parameters that differ from the default settings
are kept. See attached file.

To narrow down this problem, I would first recommend you to drop the
following parameters unless you have a very good reason for having
them:

[global]
smb ports = 139

I've already disabled this a while back.

name resolve order = lmhosts hosts bcast

I disabled this one too now.

deadtime = 10

I also already this a while back.

socket options = IPTOS_LOWDELAY TCP_NODELAY SO_SNDBUF=8192
SO_RCVBUF=8192

Same thing.

enhanced browsing = No

Same thing.

strict locking = No

I have disabled this now. Now that I think of it this could potentiolly
fix the problem.

dos filetime resolution = Yes

I disabled this too.

From discussions with Samba developers, tweaking those is generally
not recommendedwhatever you may find on so-called well-informed
sites (the socket options, specifically)

I'd also like to know whether you still experience that problem and
are in position to do further testing. At the moment you reported the
problem, i was mostly ignored, unfortunately, after you provided a
very big level 10 debug log.

Now that I've changed some of the settings you suggested I'll recheck
whether it fixes the problem. I'll report back ASAP.

Thanks for your efforts.

cheers,

Arno

ipython 0.9.1 has actually already been prepared for uploading to
experimental (due to the lenny freeze, see [0]) as soon as foolscap
enters unstable.

As noted in the bug report (see [1]) you can download both foolscap and
ipython packaged from my personal repository at [2].
I have been using the combination of both packages for more than a month
now and haven't found a single problem, so you should be safe to install
them.

Well, diverting a widely used binary against a completely unknown
binary that has no need to have that same name is a no-go as
well... But it could be shipped as /usr/bin/xgettext_tt or something
like that? It does not need to have the same name!

Bug#239111: following etch->lenny grub upgrade instructions locks up a system with XFS root

2008-12-11 Thread Robert McQueen
severity 239111 grave
found 239111 0.97-47
thanks

Sorry to drag this ancient bug up to RC status, but I just got *totally*
screwed by it. I've just upgraded an etch system to lenny, and following
the instructions in grub's NEWS.Debian file, I ran 'grub-install (hd0)'
after verifying my device.map in order to update the bootloader, under
the threat that my system would not be able to boot a >= 2.6.23 kernel.

Unfortunately, because of this grub-install hanging while my XFS root
filesystem is frozen, my entire (remote, headless) system is now
unresponsive on all of the ssh logins I had open to it, as well as on
its serial console, because any login activity ends up trying to write
to disk. (I could sysrq or powercycle it, but I'm not actually certain
whether the bootloader will be intact currently. Thankfully its the dom0
of a Xen system, and the mission-critical domUs are working still, so I
can risk a reboot over the weekend.)

Previously this bug has just been a minor annoyance because under d-i,
you can work around this freeze by going to the shell (which is in
memory in a different filesystem) and killing grub-install, unfreezing
the filesystem, and doing it manually. However, this is the first time
I've been enticed into using grub-install on a live system, and now I've
realised quite what a screwup this actually is. It's moved from a mild
annoyance for deviants like me who insist on choosing grub from the d-i
menu when using an XFS root, to a way to lock-up and potentially even
brick (I can tell you tomorrow evening) a running system.

As I noted, er, four and a half years ago[1], and by many previous
reporters, what the script currently does will *always* fail where /boot
and / are the same filesystem:
 xfs_freeze -f
grub --bullshit... # tries to write to the filesystem and log file too,
# will never make any progress because / is frozen
 xfs_freeze -u
On a live system, not only does this just hang the grub-install process,
but it effectively stops you from being able to log in to fix the
situation too.

1: http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2004/06/msg02301.html

Previous reporters have provided patches[2] to change the behaviour to this:
 xfs_freeze -f
 xfs_freeze -u
 grub --bullshit...
The failures of this approach (see below) are that grub might not
succeed in upgrading/installing, or that it might install an older
version of grub. It will, however, never freeze your system.

2:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=152;filename=xfs_freeze.diff;att=1;bug=239111

Earlier reporters on the bug in 2006 commented that the above doesn't
work reliably. This is due to #306966, which is present in etch's
kernel, and means xfs_freeze -f can return before the data is actually
synced. I've spoken to the XFS developers about this on IRC, and
apparently it was fixed upstream around 2.6.19 or 20. So actually,
applying that patch to re-order things like that will make this freezing
bug go away on lenny kernel system once and for all, and d-i won't need
to force LILO on XFS users any more. :)

However it /will/ re-introduce the race condition so that grub-install
fails when you're running under etch's kernel, but that's /much/ less of
a problem than locking up or bricking the system, because you can work
around it by just installing grub manually. So, definitely for lenny we
must apply a patch which fixes the script to do freeze / unfreeze / grub.

The only remaining issue is then: how old a grub can really not read the
2.6.26 kernel that comes with lenny?

If etch's grub /can/ read lenny's kernel, and it's only /older/ grubs
that have problems, then this race bug will affect a pretty small number
of people. We can just edit NEWS.Debian then to say "If grub-install
fails and you have XFS /boot and etch's kernel, reboot and try it
again". Any people with >3 year old Debian systems with XFS root and
grub are probably able to figure out how to reinstall grub manually.

If etch's grub /can't/ read lenny's kernel, then I guess we need to
provide a smoother migration path for people who are doing as I did and
running grub-install, so we can apply the patch with the sleep
workaround[3] and include a message:
"If you got a file not found error and use an XFS root filesystem,
please try re-running grub-install with the --sync-sleep=60 option to
work around a bug in the 2.6.18 kernel in etch."

3:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=179;filename=xfs_freeze.diff;att=1;bug=239111

Regards,
Rob

P.S. If we were being "enterprise", we'd probably push an etch kernel
patch which fixed the race condition with xfs_freeze, so people could
reliably upgrade their kernel and grub at the same time before rebooting
into lenny. But, eh, screw it.

P.P.S. The XFS developers would like to take this opportunity to remind
viewers that reading/writing the block device underneath a filesystem is
the true bug here, and that the grub shell should just be made to use
FIBMAP to find the stage 1.5

Bug#507475: git-doc CSS dependent, breaks down in text browsers

I think this is another asciidoc issue, as git merely specifies "verse"
format for this section. Probably the most friendly thing to do would be
to use

instead of

so that non-CSS browsers fall back to preserving the line boundaries
(which is what is making it look so unbearable in your text browser).
But it is definitely something to be fixed in asciidoc, not in the git
documentation.

oops occurs when usually the VT6120/VT6121/VT6122 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

Severity: normal

Note minimal input file and other files below.

My texlive-latex-base version is 2007.dfsg.1-4
My ghostscript version is 8.62.dfsg.1-3.1

I do: ps2epsi graphics.ps
to make graphics.epsi

Then I do: latex problem.tex
to make problem.dvi

Now, if I do: dvips problem.dvi
and look at the result with gv,
there are missing characters, as at http://imagebin.org/33420

But, if I do: dvips -j0 problem.dvi

everything is fine, as at http://imagebin.org/33421

Hi Loïc,

I tried to trigger the bug on Lenny with apt-xapian-index 0.13 and 0.15 but did
not manage. Is it reproducible on your machine with aptitude reinstall for
instance?

In my attempts to trigger the bug, I did:

- aptitude install apt-xapian-index (0.13)
- aptitude reinstall apt-xapian-index (0.13)
- dpkg -i apt-xapian-index_0.15_all.deb
- dpkg -i apt-xapian-index_0.15_all.deb (again)
- aptitude purge apt-xapian-index
- aptitude install apt-xapian-index (0.13)
- update-apt-xapian-index
- aptitude reinstall apt-xapian-index (0.13)
- dpkg -i apt-xapian-index_0.15_all.deb
- update-apt-xapian-index
- dpkg -i apt-xapian-index_0.15_all.deb

It was not sufficient to observe the bug.

Have a nice day,

Bug#508526: wpasupplicant: Fix for current pm-utils

2008-12-11 Thread Martin Pitt
Package: wpasupplicant
Version: 0.6.6-1
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu ubuntu-patch jaunty

Hello,

In https://launchpad.net/bugs/307312 it was reported that current
wpasupplicant in experimental breaks suspend with current versions of
pm-utils (1.2.2.1). In particular, /etc/pm/sleep.d/action_wpa makes
the wrong assumption that pm-utils hooks are called with exactly one
argument, which is wrong. From HOWTO.hooks:

The actual sleep method being used will be passed as the second
parameter -- if your hook needs to handle suspend-hybrid (or any
other platform-specific sleep method), it should examine the second
  parameter.

Attached debdiff fixes it again.

Thanks for considering,

Martin

wishlist bug is for the actual release into the archive, of course. I

Bug#508525: ITP: maven-embedder -- Library used to embed Maven in any Java application

2008-12-11 Thread Ludovic Claude
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

Maven is a software project management and comprehension tool. Based on the
concept of a project object model (POM), Maven can manage a project's
build,
reporting and documentation from a central piece of information.
 .
Maven's primary goal is to allow a developer to comprehend the complete
state of a development effort in the shortest period of time. In order to
attain this goal there are several areas of concern that Maven attempts
 to deal with:
 .
* Making the build process easy
* Providing a uniform build system
* Providing quality project information
* Providing guidelines for best practices development
* Allowing transparent migration to new features
 .
This package ships a Maven Embedder which is used by the Maven CLI, by IDE
integration projects like Mevenide and potentially any tool that needs to
embed Maven's capabilities. You could embed Maven in a Continuous
Integration
application to run Maven build, an application lifecycle management (ALF)
tool, or Ant tasks that utilize Maven's functionality.

A patch implementing this behavior is attached. I've tested it on
css_descramble.mp3, as well as an MPEG 1.0 MP3, and it reports the
correct MPEG version in both cases. I have no MPEG 2.5 files on which

snapshot builds of 2.6.27 are already available - see the wiki page
Bastian directed you to. Obviously that's not the same as being in the
archive proper, but that's not going to happen till after lenny.

Bug#508524: lenny - regression - ffmpeg lacks important codecs

2008-12-11 Thread Peter Tuhársky
package: ffmpeg

version: 0.svn20080206-14

I'm trying the Lenny and I have found that ffmpeg, in attemp to encode a
file, claims an error:

Unknown encoder 'mpeg4'

Similar with mpeg2video, h264 etc. These worked well with etch. A quick
glance has shown that there has been similar problem with ubuntu recently
(Bug 254201). Is it going to be fixed until stable release of Lenny? This
renders the Lenny quite useless for me.

This has also been discussed in the past and is not equivalent with the
current situation. If we'd delay that message (which is essentially the
last message before reboot, the danger is that the reboot is already
taking place and thus the disk tray is automatically closed because of
the reboot process.

This is not a solution.

Bug#508522: zephyr: FTBFS on hurd-i386

2008-12-11 Thread Samuel Thibault
Package: zephyr
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Hello,

zephyr currently FTBFS on hurd-i386, because it unconditionnaly uses
MAXHOSTNAMELEN and MAXPATHLEN in a lot of places. The attached patch
defaults them to 4096. A proper fix would be to turn loops into dynamic
loops, but that would be a much more intrusive fix.

2008-12-11 Thread Thomas Bushnell BSG

thanks

I'm not sure I understand why you closed the wishlist bug. A freeze, as
I understand it, is not about *never* installing a new version, but
rather *waiting* until the release is made. It's perfectly normal to
have a wishlist bug for a new version--it's not a demand for anything,
still less a request for breaking the freeze--just a note, "hey, this
would be good."

Then, when the release is made, kernel version 2.6.27 (or later) can be
packaged and the wishlist bug closed. That's the point of wishlist
bugs.

There is nothing inappropriate about a bug (wishlist or otherwise) being
filed which cannot be closed during the freeze; the correct response, as
I understand it, is to leave the bug open, perhaps with an email to the
bug log explaining the situation.

But from the exasperated tone of your message, it seems likely that I
have misunderstood what a freeze means. I outline above my
understanding. Can you perhaps elaborate on what I have incorrectly
understood about what a freeze means?

Thomas

The text might not have been very clear, so let's try and make it
more clear:
MPEG 1.0: Neither bit is set
MPEG 2.0: MAD_FLAG_LSF_EXT is set
MPEG 2.5: MAD_FLAG_LSF_EXT and MAD_FLAG_MPEG_2_5_EXT are set.

Bug#506627: pristine-tar: [GIT PATCH] Add built-in gzip support to zgz, and use it in pristine-gz

2008-12-11 Thread Josh Triplett
Package: pristine-tar
Version: 0.18
Followup-For: Bug #506627

I've added a built-in-gzip branch to my pristine-tar repository at
git://joshtriplett.org/git/pristine-tar .

This branch incorporates my cut-down version of GNU gzip into zgz, and
uses it to implement the --gnu option. This also adds support for using
--timestamp and --original-name with --gnu. Using this support, I
modified pristine-gz to do all of its compression with -c, feeding the
uncompressed file in on standard input and reading the compressed data
from standard output. This removes the need to give a temporary file
the right original filename and timestamp, and also eliminates the
complexity caused by zgz/gzip removing the uncompressed file after
compressing it.

Package: git-doc

Shouldn't /usr/share/doc/git-doc/*.txt only be in the source package,
as their output is already in *.html and the man pages.

That they are not ready for browsing is shown by e.g.,

Bug#508520: libosso: FTBFS on non-linux systems

2008-12-11 Thread Samuel Thibault
Package: libosso
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Hello,

libosso includes linux/limits.h, and thus of course FTBFS on non-linux
systems. In addition to that, it unconditionnaly uses PATH_MAX, while
that is not defined on systems which don't have such limit. The
attached patch just makes it use POSIX-compliant limits.h instead and
handle systems without a PATH_MAX limitation.

There are several minor spell errors in the french localisation pour
Mtink. The patch tries to fix all errors them but I probably miss some
of them. The patch has to be used against ./utils/Mtink.Fr. (If I

Bug#508518: command line tools leak activity to local users

2008-12-11 Thread Michael Gold
Package: gnunet-client
Version: 0.8.0b-4

The command line tools gnunet-search, gnunet-download, and gnunet-insert
only accept search terms, filenames, etc. as command line parameters.
This means that other users on the same system could monitor gnunet
activity by running ps or top.

Since gnunet is supposed to be anonymous, it should be possible to pass
parameters in some way that can't be observed -- for example, the tools
could prompt for parameters and read them from stdin.

Dear Maintainer,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a possible
candidate for removal from Debian, because:

* Buggy.
* Depends on Gtk1.2 which is scheduled for removal. (Trying to get ahead
of the game for Gtk1.2 removal).

* Package has no reverse depends or reverse build-depends.

If you think that it should be orphaned instead of being removed from
Debian, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
just close this bug and do an upload also fixing the other issues.

If you agree that it should be removed, send the following commands to

I installed the evince from experimental, and see no change. The glyph
for 'micro' is still rendering wrong... look at the capacitor values,
they should look sort of like 'uF' but the first glyph shows up here as
a sideways sort of squiggle that I don't recognize.

XML::Validate is a generic interface to different XML validation backends.

If you want to write your own backends, the easiest way is probably to

Install went smoothly.

It is imperative to choose the radeonhd driver over the radeon driver for the
onboard
ATI graphics card on the Asus M2A-VM HDMI motherboard. With the radeon driver
the
screen goes black for around 1s every 10-30s.

To make X.org recognizes the correct screensize with this motherboard, either
radeonhd v. 1.2.2+ is needed, or the HDMI card must be inserted, even if the
HDMI port isn't used.

A message is already displayed at the end to notify about reboot.

There is no need to "eject" prior that message. It can be done *after* and have
the message explain a little more:

... Please remove obstables at the front of CD drive. It will
be ejected before reboot takes place

This is a simple way to prevent damage to the CD drive.

It currently does not have a PO compatible format, but I suggested that

manpage still needs to be written even if diversion is used.

Not sure. Since I use it primarily for a mix of Perl and TT code, the

The first entry is wrong.

Also, I think it would be nice to have "exempt_group=sudo" in the
default /etc/sudoers.

It will be with the combination Coq 8.2 / OCaml 3.11. Some people in the
Coq development team are currently working on it. The basic idea is that
the ML part of ssreflect will be compiled into a plugin (.cmxs) that
will be dynamically loaded by Coq when needed.

Bug#508511: ITP: maven-debian-helper -- Helper tools for building Debian packages with Maven

2008-12-11 Thread Torsten Werner
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Torsten Werner

* Package name: maven-debian-helper
  Version : 0.1
  Upstream Author : Torsten Werner
* URL : http://wiki.debian.org/Java/MavenBuilder
* License : Apache-2.0
  Programming Lang: Java
Description : Helper tools for building Debian packages with Maven
Maven is a software project management and comprehension tool. Based on the
concept of a project object model (POM), Maven can manage a project's build,
reporting and documentation from a central piece of information.
 .
Maven's primary goal is to allow a developer to comprehend the complete
state of a development effort in the shortest period of time. In order to
attain this goal there are several areas of concern that Maven attempts
 to deal with:
 .
* Making the build process easy
* Providing a uniform build system
* Providing quality project information
* Providing guidelines for best practices development
* Allowing transparent migration to new features
 .
This package makes it possible to use Maven for building Debian packages.

The license seems to be homogeneous (no surprise to you, but
unfortunately not the case for all packages :)), but you want to add
lots of copyright notices (note that the FTP team does not require to
separate them out, just listing all copyright notices will do, you
should have
one line per copyright holders with the years in front).
All but one copyright notice I found while reading through the - er -
largish diff can be found by "rgrep -i '(c)\|copyright' .".
The two remaining ones (I found) are
in boost_1_37_0/boost/detail/utf8_codecvt_facet.hpp:
Andrew Lumsdaine (he is listed as author, but in other occasions
the university is credited for the copyright)
and the
Institute of Transport, Railway Construction and Operation,
   University of Hanover, Germany
has multi-line copyright notices that should include the full qualification.
There is a tool licensecheck in devscripts that might help keeping such
information up to date, but unfortunately I'm ignorant of the details of
the operation.
Please ping ftpmaster in mail or me (tomv_w) on IRC when you have
packages uploaded, I'll look at them as soon as I get a free minute on
the weekend (probably won't have net on the train tomorrow, sorry...).

Kind regards

The problem with installing that in /usr/bin is that

(1) .pl extension is to be avoided, and if we obey that rule,
(2) the package would have to conflict with gettext, on which depend
~50 other packages.

dead-end *sigh*

Coincidentaly, I also need the nice xgettext.pl TT support. I use the
following shell function to override the gettext's xgettext:

xgettext() {
perl -w -e 'use Locale::Maketext::Extract::Run qw(xgettext);
xgettext(@ARGV);' -- "$@"
}

I agree this is not very ideal.

How about installing xgettext.pl as /usr/bin/xgettext-lexicon? That
could work, provided someone writes a man page for it :)

Bug#508509: Incorrect runtime dependencies?

2008-12-11 Thread Onkar Shinde
Package: libhibernate3-java
Version: 3.3.1.GA+dak1-2

I believe that libhibernate3-java has following incorrect
dependencies. Please correct me if I am wrong.

1. java-gcj-compat-dev - should be removed.
2. java-gcj-compat | java2-runtime - should be changed to
java-gcj-compat-headless | java2-runtime-headless
3. glassfish-javaee - although glassfish-javaee is a build dep, how
much of it is actually needed at runtime. Are there no alternatives?
Does it make sense for a library to depend on a server?

Also the debian/build.xml file specifies source 1.5 (source attribute
of javac task). So either this should be changed to 1.4 or
java2-runtime* should be changed to java5-runtime*.

Actually, it does nothing if an identical configuration already exists
(ignoring the name you give).

try this:
ip tunnel add test1 mode ipip remote 1.2.3.4
ip tunnel add test2 mode ipip remote 1.2.3.4

Result: test1 will be added, test2 won't because the configuration is
identical to test1 which already exists.

Your example, missing both remote and local is identical to the
"always existing" tunnel interface that gets added as soon as you load the
module. (ie. sit0 for sit, tunl0 for ipip, ...)

from linux-2.6/net/ipv4/ipip.c:

static struct ip_tunnel * ipip_tunnel_locate(struct net *net,
struct ip_tunnel_parm *parms, int create)
{
...

for (tp = __ipip_bucket(ipn, parms); (t = *tp) != NULL; tp = &t->next) {
if (local == t->parms.iph.saddr && remote == t->parms.iph.daddr)
return t;
}
if (!create)
return NULL;

... otherwise create it here...
}

This function gets called with create==1, but it'll never create the
tunnel interface because the for loop matches in both our cases discussed
above.

Not very obvious for the user...

I appreciate your opinion. In the opinion of the Debian Boost
packagers, we have adapted adequately to the competing demands of
keeping Boost up-to-date with not breaking all the Boost-using
packages with every update.

Certainly it's not the only argument. In addition to that, we've got
people emailing constantly asking for Boost 1.37.

Correct. I double-checked the build-dependencies and noticed there is
one package (openturns) build-depending on boost1.36. I wrote this
right into the bug so as to avoid confusion. Perhaps I could have
been more clear.

Joerg missed this originally and suggested immediate removal on the
assumption that no Debian packages use it.

Thank you. I look forward to having Boost 1.37 processed in a
day or two.

This document looks fine to me, using evince from experimental and
poppler 0.8.7-1, but I might have overlooked something.

Does this work if you install poppler-data (from non-free?).

Bug#508506: drupal6: PostgreSQL database should have UTF8 encoding

2008-12-11 Thread Christoph Haas
Package: drupal6

Severity: normal

Drupal suggests that we use UTF8 as a database encoding when working
with PostgreSQL as a backend. It's not easy to convert an existing
Drupal database from the default SQL_ASCII so it would be nice if the
dbconfig would choose UTF8 by default.

Hi,

It would be nice to install xgettext.pl (currently provided in

support for Template Toolkit sources.

Bug#508503: RFP: libdata-validate-email-perl -- common email validation methods

2008-12-11 Thread David Moreno
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: libdata-validate-email-perl
  Version : 0.04
Upstream Author : Richard Sonnen .
* URL :
http://search.cpan.org/~sonnen/Data-Validate-Email-0.04/Email.pm
* License : Perl's
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : common email validation methods

This module collects common email validation routines to make input
validation, and untainting easier and more readable.

All functions return an untainted value if the test passes, and undef
if it fails. This means that you should always check for a defined status
explicitly. Don't assume the return will be true. (e.g. is_username('0'))

The value to test is always the first (and often only) argument.

I'm interested in that software, but I'm a bit worried on how the
package could be done. Last time I used it, it was necessary to generate
a new coq toplevel... Is it now possible to load it on the fly?

Bug#508403: pbuilder-satisfydepends-experimental doesn't always try higher versions

Can you try the newer version? There should be a pbuilder from bpo,
and if you are a DD, you should probably have a sid box to develop on
anyway...

OK, I've moved all the necessary stuff over to a lenny box, and confirm
that it works with lenny pbuilder with standard pbuilder-satisfydepends
and with pbuilder-satisfydepends-experimental.

Amusingly enough the "build a dummy package and let aptitude sort it
out"

approach is exactly what I was thinking of as a solution to a similar
problem the day before. Now I get to point at pbuilder-satisfydepends as
an example solution for the other problem - thanks! :-)

Weird, we already fixed a similar bug very recently:

Bug#508497: text rendering fails on some documents

2008-12-11 Thread Bdale Garbee
Package: evince
Version: 2.22.2-4

I've stumbled over various rendering problems with evince before, and mostly
just lived with them. One such example is the data sheet for the Linear
Technologies LTC1682 charge pump regulator IC, in which the text labels on
the schematic at the bottom of page one render some weird glyph instead of
the expected symbol for 'micro'. Both xpdf and acroread get it right:

http://www.linear.com/pc/downloadDocument.do?navId=H0,C1,C1003,C1039,C1
133,P1747,D1952

Today, however, I stumbled over a document that evince fails to render in a
much more dramatic and devastating way, that again both xpdf and acroread
handle just fine:

http://www.jst-mfg.com/product/pdf/eng/ePH.pdf

In this datasheet for a JST 2mm connector series, all of the text for
dimensions in the mechanical drawings, and most of the dimensional text in
the tables, fails to render at all. No visible errors or warnings, the image
is just displayed without the associated text.

On this document, xpdf streams errors like this in the invoking shell window:

Error: Unknown character collection 'Adobe-Japan1'

However, the resulting rendering is virtually identical to the rendering from
acroread, and completely useable.

Are you running the kernel-driver? Please post the output of

# cat /proc/asound/version

We won't fix 1.0.13. The latest is 1.0.17 (experimental) or at least
1.0.16 in lenny/sid.

Hmmm... I had started to fix these dependencies ages ago in the SVN,
but for some reason I didn't upload them. Funny. But I hadn't spotted
all of them, so thanks for you report.

I didn't actually use your patch as such, sorry, but it is fixed
anyway. Please expect an upload within a few minutes, just the time for
me to check it autobuilds fine.

  Cheers,

Bug#508491: [PATCH] moreutils: vipe aborts on empty input

2008-12-11 Thread Anders Kaseorg

Package: moreutils
Version: 0.33
Severity: important
Tags: patch

If you run vipe with empty input, it aborts:
  $ echo -n | vipe
write temp: at /usr/bin/vipe line 46, chunk 1.

The line in question is:
  print $fh  || die "write temp: $!";
Perl parses this as
  print $fh ( || die "write temp: $!");
which is not what was intended.

This is why perlop(1) recommends using the lower-precendence or operator
for control flow. The attached patch replaces "|| die" with "or die"
everywhere, fixing this problem.From 4159ef570f21193a4bd27db2fc636fd2214f99c4 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001
From: Anders Kaseorg
Date: Thu, 11 Dec 2008 14:36:36 -0500
Subject: [PATCH] Replace "|| die" with "or die".

Previously vipe would abort on empty input, because Perl parses
  print $fh  || die "write temp: $!";
as
  print $fh ( || die "write temp: $!");

This is fixed by using the low-precendence or operator for control
flow.

Bug#507650: minicom works, virsh console does not work over qemu+ssh

retitle 507650 virsh console just hangs, cannot connect remotely
thanks

Even though virsh console now works locally, doing the same via
qemu+ssh from a remote system exhibits exactly the same behaviour
when I try to connect to it via qemu+ssh.

It seems that virsh tries to open the *local* /dev/pts/*, which is
a little suboptimal. :)

Bug#508489: [hppa] invalid module format when loading xfs.ko

Switching from the linux-image-2.6.26-1-parisc kernel to the
linux-image-2.6.26-1-parisc64 kernel allowed me to load the module, but
there were still issues with using XFS that I'll file in another bug.
This bug should be only for the the module loading problem with the
non-64bit kernel.

This is a RC bug. That it does affect testing or not is irrelevant
with respect to its gravity. But if it does not affect testing, then the
best way to make sure it is understood by the BTS is to tell him, which
is what I'm currently doing.

I tried upgrading to 2.6.26-11. Although I didn't see any more Bad
SMB errors in the log, the kernel did log a bug trace to the terminal
I was in at the time before the system froze again. This time syslog
didn't get written before the lockup so I can't include that trace.

At the time of the second freeze, I was recursively removing a
directory tree from a Samba 2.2.8 server located on an OpenVMS host.
The first freeze before the upgrade may have been related to activity
on the same server.

Comments/Problems:

During the install I wanted to create an XFS partition on /dev/sdb, but
that option wasn't available. After the install I tried doing this by
hand, but I couldn't even load the xfs module:

# modprobe xfs
FATAL: Error inserting xfs
(/lib/modules/2.6.26-1-parisc/kernel/fs/xfs/xfs.ko): Invalid module
format

In dmesg I see:
[17182155.252000] module xfs relocation of symbol xfs_btree_read_bufs is
out of range (0x3ffefffe in 17 bits)

This looks pretty similar to bug #350482:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=350482

It was suggested that the module is just too big:

kdebase is not a problem [1], b0rked jack-audio-connection-kit [2] on alpha is
the problem. I strongly believe that 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-6 could be unlocked as is
if jack wasn't blocking it.

Bug#508124: Unblock suggestion: m2crypto

2008-12-11 Thread Asheesh Laroia

Howdy again Debian Releasers,

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=508124 is indicated as a
lenny+sid RC bug. This is a duplicate of #484364 (by the time you see
this, I will have merged them).

python-m2crypto 0.18.2-1 has a critical bug that it is missing an import.
The attached debdiff fixes this and one other housekeeping issue. As it
is a tiny patch, and it fixes a release-critical bug, I believe it is
appropriate to be allowed to flow into Lenny.

I'm explicitly CC:ing the maintainer of python-m2crypto and my AM, so they
both clearly know what I'm up to.

As always with my "unblock suggestions," I'm not the maintainer nor
Debian-Release, so this is just a suggestion. But I do think it is the
right course of action.

I was not clear in the original mail, excuse the noise: 0.18.2-2 in sid
fixes the issue, and it is that package that I believe should flow into
