Bug#508216: Updated version of de.po
Quoting Helge Kreutzmann (deb...@helgefjell.de): Still, I used the file you just sent in case something else was changed in the meantime because of a late review or something. Well, I removed a few more full stops I noticed due to your remark. Be careful to remove full stops only on the short part of note and error templates. The long parts should remains as complete sentences. I suggest using podebconf-diplay-do, of course... signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#507650: minicom works, virsh console does not work over qemu+ssh
retitle 507650 virsh console dom should work for remote connections severity 507650 wishlist On Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 08:44:23PM +0100, martin f krafft wrote: Even though virsh console now works locally, doing the same via qemu+ssh from a remote system exhibits exactly the same behaviour when I try to connect to it via qemu+ssh. It seems that virsh tries to open the *local* /dev/pts/*, which is a little suboptimal. :) virsh console is currently strictly local, it simply opens the pty specified in the XML config. It also assumes you have the permission to access the device (so while you can manage the vm as non root you might to be root to read the serial console). Ideally this would be routed to libvirtd itself for permission checking and remote console forwarding. Cheers, -- Guido signature.asc Description: Digital signature

My searches didn't find much discussion of it here, or any packages in the archive using it yet. A copy follows. Please cc the bug report on relevant replies. My concerns are the infinitely-recursive definition of Software in 1, deemed acceptance of the licence by downloading (possibly before seeing the licence) in 3.1, the disconnected advertising requirement in 5.3.4.3 and the choice of Paris as venue in 13.2. There seems no obvious GPL-upgrade escape route this time. It's not a DFSG matter, but I'm mildly irritated by the use of US English by EU-tax-funded groups! CeCILL-B FREE SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT Notice This Agreement is a Free Software license agreement that is the result of discussions between its authors in order to ensure compliance with the two main principles guiding its drafting: * firstly, compliance with the principles governing the distribution of Free Software: access to source code, broad rights granted to users, * secondly, the election of a governing law, French law, with which it is conformant, both as regards the law of torts and intellectual property law, and the protection that it offers to both authors and holders of the economic rights over software. The authors of the CeCILL-B (for Ce[a] C[nrs] I[nria] L[ogiciel] L[ibre]) license are: Commissariat ? l'Energie Atomique - CEA, a public scientific, technical and industrial research establishment, having its principal place of business at 25 rue Leblanc, immeuble Le Ponant D, 75015 Paris, France. Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique - CNRS, a public scientific and technological establishment, having its principal place of business at 3 rue Michel-Ange, 75794 Paris cedex 16, France. Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique - INRIA, a public scientific and technological establishment, having its principal place of business at Domaine de Voluceau, Rocquencourt, BP 105, 78153 Le Chesnay cedex, France. Preamble This Agreement is an open source software license intended to give users significant freedom to modify and redistribute the software licensed hereunder. The exercising of this freedom is conditional upon a strong obligation of giving credits for everybody that distributes a software incorporating a software ruled by the current license so as all contributions to be properly identified and acknowledged. In consideration of access to the source code and the rights to copy, modify and redistribute granted by the license, users are provided only with a limited warranty and the software's author, the holder of the economic rights, and the successive licensors only have limited liability. In this respect, the risks associated with loading, using, modifying and/or developing or reproducing the software by the user are brought to the user's attention, given its Free Software status, which may make it complicated to use, with the result that its use is reserved for developers and experienced professionals having in-depth computer knowledge. Users are therefore encouraged to load and test the suitability of the software as regards their requirements in conditions enabling the security of their systems and/or data to be ensured and, more generally, to use and operate it in the same conditions of security. This Agreement may be freely reproduced and published, provided it is not altered, and that no provisions are either added or removed herefrom. This Agreement may apply to any or all software for which the holder of the economic rights decides to submit the use thereof to its provisions. Thanks for the tip Daniel. For my part, I think that the issue was introduced with a new icedove package (2.0.0.17-1). I was upgrading from a old sid, with probably one of the first icedoved releases (which was working fine). And I switched my Xorg video driver from nv to nvidia at the same time. I noticed quite a few changes on font rendering, maybe it could be linked with the dpi issue ? Anyway, problem solved by switching to 0. Bug#504027: postfix: Some chroot issues in init.d script (+ patch)
Patch update concerning the creation of the chroot: 1. Made copying of files other than regular files possible, this is useful for links and files like /dev/urandom. Directories are still skipped. 2. Made sure that the postfix user is able to read files in the chroot that are not group readable on their original location. As the default group ownership is postfix, I just added chmod g+r on the chroot file. 3. If files were world-writable on their original location, make it also writable for the postfix group in the chroot. Bug#508552: vm: sends garbled non-ASCII in default setup
Package: vm Version: 8.0.11-1 Severity: important In VM's default setup messages containing non-ASCII characters are sent as Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-2022-jp. They look garbled in every MUA (Gnus, VM, Rmail, Icedove) I've tried. If an iso-2022 encoding is used at all, at least Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-2022-7bit should be used, which would make the messages readable in Emacs-based MUAs. Note that this applies to messages sent in VM under emacs22, with emacs-snapshot the situation is even worse: all non-ASCII characters silently disappear when the message is sent! This can be worked around by setting vm-mime-8bit-composition-charset to utf-8 which makes VM send messages as Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8, although the docstring for vm-mime-8bit-composition-charset wrongly claims that this variable has no effect. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.27.8-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages vm depends on: ii emacs-snapshot [emacsen]1:20081205-2 The GNU Emacs editor (development ii emacs21 [emacsen] 21.4a+1-5.6 The GNU Emacs editor ii emacs22-gtk [emacsen] 22.2+2-5 The GNU Emacs editor (with GTK use ii make3.81-5 The GNU version of the make util ii ucf 3.0011 Update Configuration File: preserv vm recommends no packages. Bug#508553: ITP: fx2pipe -- Pipe data in or out of an Cypress FX2 device
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Uwe Hermann u...@debian.org * Package name: fx2pipe Version : 0.6 Upstream Author : Wolfgang Wieser wwie...@gmx.de * URL : http://www.triplespark.net/elec/periph/USB-FX2/software/fx2pipe.html * License : GPLv2 Programming Lang: C Description : Pipe data in or out of an Cypress FX2 device FX2Pipe is a user-space utility which can be used to pipe data in or out of an Cypress FX2 device (CY7C6801xA). . It has a build-in firmware for the 8051 controller integrated in the FX2 chip. Upon startup, FX2Pipe will download that firmware onto the controller and also pass additional information (like the direction of the transfer, the FIFO width, etc.), then take the FX2 out of reset and begin the transfer. . The transfer works by submitting a number of URBs (normally 16) which are then enqueued and processed by the kernel as soon as possible. Once an URB is processed, it is returned back to the program which will in turn submit another URB hence having always a couple of URBs enqueued in the kernel. The reason is simple: -2 has been uploaded without including -1 changelog entry (dpkg-buildpackage -v), so nothing strange has happened. Thanks, I was unaware of that option. I'll make sure to use it when preparing source packages for upload. This would have been avoided if the same revision was used even in further modification of the same on-work package. That unfortunately causes other problems, not least of which is difficulty distinguishing in correspondence between packages that are actually different but have the same version string. It's cleaner and simpler to discuss separate uploads if they are separate in the changelog, too. Bug#506713: Will the fix go to lenny?
Ok. Seems that bug is fixed in experimental. Two questions. 1) Will this version be uploaded to unstable and then to testing before lenny is released? 2) According to Ben, any library on SPARC is a subject to this bug. I think it is rather hard to create a list of libraries which have functions which return structures and refer to the global data. So, potentially every library can suffer from this. Will all libraries be recompiled due to this bug? Bug#508485: fop: executable does not work; binary package dependency needs updating

Funny. But I hadn't spotted all of them, so thanks for you report. I didn't actually use your patch as such, sorry, but it is fixed anyway. Please expect an upload within a few minutes, just the time for me to check it autobuilds fine. Thanks for your quick replies and quick fix. I have tested fop with openjdk-6-jre by running my personal (non-simple) XSL-FO programs and made sure it works well. If I find some errors potentially due to non-Sun runtime, I'll report it. ;-) Thanks a lot, -nori -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#508558: Add sloc2html to sloccount package
Package: sloccount Version: 2.26-3 Severity: wishlist sloc2html is a tool which visualises the sloccount output, it is available from the author homepage: http://www.dwheeler.com/sloccount/sloc2html.py (http://www.dwheeler.com/sloccount/ ) and it is also available under GPL. Since this is capable of beautifying the output (putting it in an html form) it would be very nice if this file could be added to the standard upstream sloccount package. Do keep in mind that: - The original file (I also attached it sloc2html.py.orig) contains an error, there's a comma missing. - All 'extra' languages should be added in sloc2html.py, as an example I added 'sloc2html.py' where both this comma is fixed and where I added support for xml and vhdl files (see also bugs 508556 and 508557 ) -- Elie De Brauwer #!/usr/bin/env python # Written by Rasmus Toftdahl Olesen r...@pohldata.dk # Modified slightly by David A. Bug#508559: gimp: quitting while saving leaves corrupt image file
Package: gimp Version: 2.2.13-1 Severity: important When you quit GIMP while saving an image, the image file can be left corrupt (truncated) without any warning. How to reproduce: - Make a copy (to avoid real data loss while testing) of a somewhat larger image file (so saving will take a few moments). I tested it with PNG and JPEG images, but it might affect other formats as well. - Open this file in GIMP. - Without making any changes in this or any other open file in GIMP, press save (ctrl-s), then quit (ctrl-q) while still saving. - GIMP will quit without any warning or confirmation (as it does when there are unsaved changes). Saving is aborted in the middle of the file, leaving it corrupted. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? You can edit plain TeX, LaTeX, ConTeXt _and_ Texinfo files with it. Once AUCTeX is activated it will be used for the file types it supports. At least in AUCTeX 11.82 you can define for which modes it should be used by customizing the variable `TeX-modes'. I don't know abou 11.55 at the moment. The sequence is simple: 1) I execute the script containing: f2c -f coeff_rot_nadl_juan.f gcc -c -O5 coeff_rot_nadl_juan.c 2) Then I compile and main program and executes it using: gcc -o filou_exe -O5 oscillations.c coeff_rot_nadl_juan.o -lm -lf2c\ filou_exe where the fortran routine is coeff_rot_nadl_juan.f, and the main program (written in C) is oscillations.c This works properly in my i386 machine (with ETCH), but it doesn't in my amd64 machine. In amd64 case: (1) and (2) compiles with no errors (and no warnings neither), but it crashes when I execute the program (i.e. when I execute filou_exe) The errors produced are: structure input model type: CESAM5.* fmt: read unexpected character apparent state: unit 37 named gr1r_s3.osc last format: (4i10) lately reading sequential formatted external IO Aborted The errors are all referred to readout an ASCII file (gr1r_s3.osc) containing both numbers and strings (with scientific formats) So it seems that there is a problem when translating to C or when compling with gcc this translated into C code. Ain't it quite easy: fai generates a list of packages which should be installed. There is a list of packages installed on the system already, dpkg -l. Diff. I think that would be a quite nice feature to have, also for the quite common case where the user is root on the machine and installs packages manually over time. (So the default should be to just list those packages, and then there could be an optional switch to softupdate, to also remove them.) Bug#491500: tomcat5.5: keeps open file descriptors for the terminal
I've also got caught by this problem which causes ssh sessions to fail to close and tomcat restart's to hang ant build scripts. The problem seems to be in the Debian specific patch to jsvc which added support for redirecting stdout/stderr output to syslog. That patch doesn't close the parent processes stdout/stderr files after detaching. Bug#374644: xine-ui: ctrl/shift key press emulation implementation broken
Hi Ben! You wrote: I've made a few important fixes to avoid zombie processes (an existing bug) and file descriptor leakage. The new version of this patch is below. Unfortunately when I gave this code some serious testing I found a race condition in xdg-screensaver that can leave child processes hanging around if the user toggles between pause and play rapidly. There also seems to be a bug in xprop, which it relies on, that means the screensaver might not be resumed when we quit. So I can't recommend this fix at the moment. How severe are these bugs? Looking at #508125 (that is the xdg-screensaver bug you mean, right?), it doesn't look too bad. Also #508126 doesn't look like it should be holding back the release. Would it be ok to apply your patch and fix #508125 and #508126 post-lenny? Bug#508392: Handling of confliciting conffiles
severity 508392 serious retitle 508392 Handling of conflicting conffiles broken found 508392 1.14.23 found 508293 1.13.25 thanks Hi, I reconsidered the severity of this issue and came to the conclusion that this a policy violation. Apart from this it is a regression (although it already entered Etch). So I consider severity serious adequate. To the rationale: The policy declares what the Replaces field is for in [1]. Firstly, as mentioned before, it is usually an error for a package to contain files which are on the system in another package. However, if the overwriting package declares that it Replaces the one containing the file being overwritten, then dpkg will replace the file from the old package with that from the new. It does not explicitily say that dpkg has to stop, when one package contains files of the other but no Replaces relationship is set, but it says that including a file that is owned by another package without setting a Replaces header is an *error*, which IMHO implicits defines that dpkg would need to stop or at least warn if it is about to replace files of another package. If you disagree, please lower the severity again. But please fix it for Lenny anyway. Having regressions over *two* stable releases in one of our core tools wouldn't really speak for our release quality :( Best Regards, Patrick [1] http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-relationships.html#s-replaces -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#506001: xine-ui: xine causes left ctrl keyup events every 20 seconds
clone 506001 -1 reassign -1 totem found -1 2.22.2-5 thanks Hi Tim! You wrote: Ah, it's the anti-screensaver measure documented in bug 374644. Would setting 'xset s' parameters be a more portable, less annoying way of disabling the screensaver temporarily? Or perhaps detect the presense of xscreensaver etc on the current display, and run 'xscreensaver-command -deactivate' periodically. Note that even performing this pressing-of-the-ctrl-key countermeasure only when fullscreened is not sufficient - those of us who have multiple screens like to display xine fullscreen on one monitor and do real work on another monitor :) Note also, that this likely breaks accessibility: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=595976 And it has the potential to break other applications on the system too (hence, grave, causes dataloss). Since it clearly simulates pressing the control key down regardless of whether it or another key is already down[1], it will happily press control down when someone has another key down that when in combination, will cause damage. For instance, imagine I am typing the w key into a browser window just as xine comes along and presses ctrl helpfully for me. Totem seems to suffer from the same bug, so cloning it and reassigning to totem. The relevant code is here (line 264): http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/totem/trunk/lib/totem-scrsaver.c?view=markup I have checked that the relevant cod eis actually present and in use (HAVE_XTEST is defined) in the version in lenny. Easy fix might be to force XTEST off, although libxtst6 might be used for other parts of the code. It simulates alt keypresses instead of controls, but I don't think that makes a lot of difference. Bug#460695: alpine: uw-mailutils already ships mailutil
Hello Asheesh, others. * Asheesh Laroia [Thu, 06 Mar 2008 19:47:24 -0800]: Supporting new drivers means patching the uw-imap source included with alpine. I believe it makes good sense to instead patch alpine the use the shared (Debian-patched not-approved-by-Mark Crispin) libc-client package and if Alpine invents additional patches for the uw-imap source in addition to the current Maildir patch then consider applying them to that shared library instead, for the benefit of php and others using it, in addition to Alpine. If we find that some patches (possibly including the current Maildir patch) may not be stable enough to force all Debian users of uw-imap and other C-lient-based software, then we could maybe extend the build routines of uw-imap to package several flavors of th c-client library with different patches applied. This seems like more trouble than it's worth. I hardly see the benefit at all, actually. But tell me if I'm missing something. It is very important to make an effort that the same code is not compiled from different source packages. That is, if package X ships a copy of library L, which is packaged separately in Debian as well, and the configure script of X wants to compile that private copy of the library and link statically against it, then Debian prefers that the configure script of X be modified so that X links against the packaged version of L. This is so becuase code duplication increases the amount of work the security team has to perform if a security hole is discovered in L; and exposes users to unknown vulnerabilities if the code duplication between X and L is not known by the security team. For more details, you can check with the security team. Because all of this, I would suggest that you check the viability of linking alpine against the packaged version of libc-client. If, after checking, you think it's not feasible, I suggest you contact the security team to see how to proceed. Bug#508546: [Logcheck-devel] Bug#508546: unecessary bashism
On Friday 12 December 2008 17:27:50 Gerfried Fuchs wrote: What would be the real gain of it? Because actually, I don't really see it. Especially, what's the deal with calling this severity important? If anything it is wishlist, not? Can you please explain what does upset you so much about this? It's not if bash would be any totally obscure and not available shell, it's the default shell in most linux distributions out there and I wouldn't know a single system that doesn't include it, and that includes cygwin for windows. I'm not upset, i'm just noting that logcheck can run on any posix-compatible shell by simply changing one bashism. One bashism does not justity the need of the whole bash. It strikes to me as obvious, but then again important is not justified. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#508480: iodbc: Segfaults when asking for the available DSNs
Hi Fabricio, Package: iodbc Version: 3.52.4-5 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable iodbctest program segfaults when called with no arguments and ask for the available DSN (pressing ?) configured in /etc/odbc.ini. When run through GDB, it spits this message: Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x2af26515bfe0 in strcmp () from /lib/libc.so.6 Below are the /etc/odbc.ini and /etc/odbcinst.ini files pasted. -8-/etc/odbc.ini-8 ODBC Data Sources] The problem is that you are missing a character on the previous line: it should read: [ODBC Data Sources] If you fix that typo, iodbctest will work fine. I will fix the underlying problem in the code so this core dump will not occur in the next release, however with this improper section header it would mean that you would get an empty list and not see your ldap entry. Note that this typo does not mean you cannot use the ldap DSN, using iodbctest DSN=ldap or iodbctest Enter ODBC connect string (? shows list): DSN=ldap Best regards, Patrick -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#508571: horde3: pgsql create script fails
Package: horde3 Version: 3.2.2+debian0-1 Severity: normal Tags: patch The create.pgsql.sql script fails (running postgresql 8.3.5). After creating and switching to the horde database, it fails to create new relations with error permission denied for schema public. The script erroneously grants CREATE on the database, which only allows creation of new schemas: GRANT CREATE on DATABASE horde to horde; \c horde horde; The script should grant CREATE on the schema: \c horde GRANT CREATE ON SCHEMA public TO horde; SET ROLE horde; Also, the script should probably run inside a transaction. After the script fails, the user is left the horde user and an empty horde database. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages horde3 depends on: ii apache2 2.2.9-10 Apache HTTP Server metapackage ii apache2-mpm-prefork [httpd] 2.2.9-10 Apache HTTP Server - traditional n ii libapache2-mod-php5 5.2.6-5server-side, HTML-embedded scripti ii libjs-scriptaculous 1.8.1-5JavaScript library for dynamic web ii php-log 1.10.0-1 Log module for PEAR ii php-mail 1.1.14-1 PHP PEAR module for sending email ii php-mail-mime 1.5.2-0.1 PHP PEAR module for creating MIME ii php5-gd 5.2.6-5GD module for php5 ii php5-mcrypt 5.2.6-5MCrypt module for php5 Versions of packages horde3 recommends: pn fckeditor none (no description available) ii locales 2.7-16 GNU C Library: National Language ( ii logrotate 3.7.1-5Log rotation utility pn php-date none (no description available) pn php-dbnone (no description available) pn php-file none (no description available) pn php-services-weather none (no description available) ii php5-cli 5.2.6-5command-line interpreter for the p ii php5-pgsql5.2.6-5PostgreSQL module for php5 pn tinymce2 | tinymcenone (no description available) Versions of packages horde3 suggests: pn chora2none (no description available) ii enscript 1.6.4-13 Converts ASCII text to Postscript, ii gettext 0.17-4 GNU Internationalization utilities pn gollemnone (no description available) pn imp4 none (no description available) pn kronolith2none (no description available) pn libgeoip1 none (no description available) pn libwpd-tools none (no description available) pn mnemo2none (no description available) pn php-net-imap none (no description available) pn php5-auth-pam none (no description available) pn php5-mhashnone (no description available) pn ppthtml none (no description available) pn rpm none (no description available) pn source-highlight none (no description available) pn turba2none (no description available) pn unrtf none (no description available) pn webcppnone (no description available) pn wvnone (no description available) pn xlhtmlnone (no description available) -- no debconf information -- $Horde: horde/scripts/sql/create.pgsql.sql,v 1.1.10.17 2008/05/27 14:24:37 mrubinsk Exp $ -- -- Uncomment the ALTER line below and change the password.
