Bug#511458: gnome-screensaver: Doesn't notice mouse movement while running Tux Paint

2009-01-10 Thread Andrew Ruthven
Package: gnome-screensaver
Version: 2.22.2-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

While having my daughter play with Tux Paint this morning, my screensaver
kicked in and locked the screen. Even though the mouse was being used.

To make matters worse, I wasn't able to enter a password as Tux Paint
was running fullscreen and had captured the keyboard (perhaps why Gnome
Screensaver didn't see the mouse movement?).

Cheers!

Well, to tell the truth, this description was taken verbatim from
the dma(8) manual page, just slightly reformatted :) But yes, I will
adapt it when actually writing the Debian package's description,
and mentioning Exim is a good idea indeed. Thanks!

Bug#511456: time: defaults to POSIX non-compliance

2009-01-10 Thread Bart Massey
Package: time
Version: 1.7-23
Severity: normal

GNU "time" has a --portability flag to get the
POSIX-mandated formatting of its output. The BASH "time"
builtin is used in /bin/sh invocations and is
POSIX-compliant. The combination of these features means
that it is difficult to write portable shell scripts that
examine the output of "time" but work under Debian. A
workaround is to set the TIME environment variable to the
POSIX format, but since other programs may use an
environment variable named something as generic as "TIME" in
other ways, one must be fairly selective about it; in any
case, it's a gratuitous painful wart.

The default behavior of "time" should be POSIX-compliant. A
flag and/or environment variable could instead give the
current non-standard behavior.

A patch to change this turns out to be fairly trivial. Comments?
Successfully tested for both regular and LVM partitioning (though not with
>1TB disk).

Ferenc: care to test this for >1TB?
Making the changes at runtime is trivial enough that custom debs should
not be needed.

Note: I've only included the change for the default recipes, but of course
they are all changed in the actual patch. partman-auto-lvm will need an
updated versioned dependency on partman-auto which is not yet included in
the patch. The installation guide will need to be updated as well, but
the change is backwards compatible.

Hi,

Thanks for reporting. I have packaged new upstream version of smc and the game
is not failing anymore with undefined symbol errors in cegui.

I am looking for a sponsor to upload it for me.

I'll ask you later, if the problem still so that I'll be able to close this bug.

Regards,

Bug#507545: Patch for some of the init.d scripts

2009-01-10 Thread Gordon Farquharson
Hi Petter

The zleds script has a K and and S symlink for each runlevel, because
zleds relies on the fact that K scripts are run with a 'stop'
argument, and S scripts are run with a 'start' argument. Passing the
'stop' argument to zleds causes it to run the leds script
(/usr/bin/leds) with a 'boot' argument before the argument that
indicates the runlevel, e.g rc2 -> rc0: '/etc/rc0.d/K05zleds stop' ->
'leds boot shutdown'. In this example, 'leds boot shutdown' causes the
Ready/Status LED to alternate between green and amber. Passing the
'start' argument to zleds causes it to run the leds script without a
'boot' argument before the argument that indicates the runlevel, e.g
rc2 -> rc1: '/etc/rc1.d/S99zleds start' -> 'leds singleuser'. In this
example, 'leds singleuser' causes the Ready/Status LED to turn amber.
Essentially, passing 'stop' to zleds indicates to the script that we
have started running the scripts in the new runlevel, and passing
start to zleds indicates that we have finished running the scripts in
the new runlevel.

Below, I've listed some example transitions from one runlevel to the
next runlevel (these are actually what /etc/init.d/rc does without
insserv installed) and the commands that are run in the zleds script.
Based on this output, and my analysis of /etc/init.d/rc, it seems to
me that insserv and doesn't do the correct thing when a service is
stopped and started in the same runlevel.

The PTS does show the upstream homepage.
I assume that the reason is that there is no homepage field in debian/control.

Hi,

I just wanted to add that even making
~/.stardict/stardict.cfg root owned

not help.
After running for some time stardict starts to ignore the
settings in the config completely.

This is rather annoying.

OK. I only verified it for smaller disk sizes as I was not aware that
there were two issues.

OK, but IMO this is more a structural flaw in partman-auto's recipe
specification than a bug in partman-auto-lvm. Unlimited should be defined
in some other way than "$random very high number which in practice will
always turn out to be not high enough".
Although with higher numbers we'll also run into overflow problems at some
point (and we should probably test for that somehow).

I think it would be more logical to specify unlimited as 0 or -1. Or even
some string like "none".

When I looked into this I did not read the full history of the BR; the
analysis in your last mail focussed on the units discrepancy only, so
that is why I focussed on that.

I'm not willing to take responsibility for the more invasive change of
your full patch at this point. If someone else want to review and test
it, that's fine by me. If not, we can revisit it after the release and
possibly fix it in a Lenny point release.

Hi all,

I had a look at 6.0d. First of all, it is unredistributable:

  aqwa『unzip-6.0d』$ head README
This is a public beta release of UnZip, version 6.00d, 2008 February 17

DO NOT DISTRIBUTE THIS ARCHIVE OUTSIDE THE INFO-ZIP GROUP!!
__ Cut here for public release ___
This is the README file for the 29 February 2008 public release of the
Info-ZIP group's portable UnZip zipfile-extraction program (and related
  utilities).

unzip60.zip portable UnZip, version 6.0, source code distribution
unzip60.tar.Z same as above, but compress'd tar format

(hence the CC to #496989)

Unzip version 6.0d compiles well with the /debian directory of 5.52-12. It
seems to have new Unicode facilities, that can be enabled by compiling with
-DUNICODE_SUPPORT. It adds two options:

-H use escapes for all non-ASCII Unicode
  -U ignore any Unicode fields

I did not manage to make something useful with them.

I downloaded Ubuntu's unzip package (5.52-12ubuntu1) and tested their -O
option. I confirm that it works and is very handy. The option seems to be
implemented by a single patch to unzip.c (and a reciprocal one to zipinfo.c).
The patch does not apply well to the 6.0d source as there are conflicts with
some parts modified to implement UNICODE_SUPPORT.

The Ubuntu's patch works by adding the -O option only when compiled with
-DUNIX, because of many #if(n)def UNIX statements. It is difficult to transpose
it without making it mutually exclusive with UNICODE_SUPPORT or managing
combinations of both. I did not go further. Have Unzip's upstream authors
reacted
to this issue? http://www.info-zip.org/zip-bug.html seems to be down…

Have a nice day,

Bug#408333: network-manager: allow-auto and hostname support missing

2009-01-10 Thread Osamu Aoki
Package: network-manager
Version: 0.6.6-2
Followup-For: Bug #408333

I realized that network-manager was not happy even if there is hostname
stanza as below

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
 hostname "mymachine"

I know it is documented behavior but I looked into source. I see
debian/patch/05-debian_backend.patch has

+ /* If the interface is listed and isn't marked "auto" then it's
+* definitely not okay to control it.
+*/
+   for (curr_b = ifparser_getfirst (); curr_b; curr_b = curr_b->next) {
+   if ((!strcmp (curr_b->type, "auto") || !strcmp (curr_b->type,
"allow-hotplug"))
+   && strstr (curr_b->name, iface))
+   blacklist = FALSE;
+   }
+
+ /* If the interface has no options other than just "inet dhcp"
+* it's probably ok to fiddle with it.
+*/
+   for (curr_d = curr_device->info; curr_d; curr_d = curr_d->next) {
+   if (strcmp (curr_d->key, "inet")
+   || strcmp (curr_d->data, "dhcp" ))
+   blacklist = TRUE;
+   }
+
+out:

and also found this bug report with pach adding "goto out"

I see few more problems remaining around here.

 * allow-auto is not taken care.
 * hostname line should be allowed.

"allow-auto" and "auto" are synonyms. (see interfaces(5)) This means

+   if ((!strcmp (curr_b->type, "auto") || !strcmp (curr_b->type,
"allow-hotplug"))

should be more like

+   if ((!strcmp (curr_b->type, "auto") || !strcmp (curr_b->type,
"allow-hotplug") || !strcmp (curr_b->type, "allow-auto"))

And for hostname

+   if (strcmp (curr_d->key, "inet")
+   || strcmp (curr_d->data, "dhcp" ))

should also skip "hostname" stanza. I guess something like (I am not quite
sure though):

+   if ((strcmp (curr_d->key, "inet")
+   || strcmp (curr_d->data, "dhcp" )) && strcmp (curr_d->name,
"hostname") )

Also nm_system_set_hostname and nm_system_get_mtu are empty function in
NetworkManagerDebian.c. Is this OK? Should not we use hostname and mtu
value?

(I know MTU stanza are only for static in Debian at this moment. For
DHCP, we need "pre-up /sbin/ifconfig $IFACE mtu 1454" to set it.
Parsing for this one may be too intrusive and fixing ifupdown to accept
MTU may be better. Then we can use MTU value from /e/n/i)

By the way, I have not tested patch attached to the parent bug report
nor checked latest experimental package situation.

Osamu

Comments/Problems:

I reused two hard disks which had previously been installed in another
Linux-based NAS system. They were partitioned with /dev/sd[ab]1
providing /dev/md0, /dev/sd[ab]2 providing /dev/md1 and /dev/sd[ab]3
both having some swap space. I would have appreciated an option to wipe
these partition tables and start from scratch, but that didn't seem to
be available.

In any case, I was completely unable to change anything the partition
layout, always getting errors about the kernel being unable to reread
the partition table, I'll have to reboot first, etc. In my frustration,
I tried the option to delete data on a partition, which was extremely
slow but didn't help at all. The error messages were all quite
unhelpful, providing no clue what was going on, and I imagine many
people would have given up at this point.

Eventually, I dropped to a shell and realized that the installer had
automatically added the swap partitions as swap space. "swapoff -a"
didn't do anything useful, I had to execute "swapoff /dev/sda3; swapoff
/dev/sdb3". After this, the partitioner worked as expected (though
again, an option to simply wipe the partition tables and start from
scratch would have been nice).

Of course you may have solved it independently of my musings.
Changing k -> K in free size computations as I suggested fixes swap
size with a 100 GB disk, but not with a 1.5 TB disk.

> And TBH I don't even see any 1TB issue in the original report and in your
> analysis I have not seen *why* we're hitting a 1TB boundary (or maybe
> I've missed it).

That was in my previous mail <87wsd51l6r@szonett.ki.iif.hu>. In
short: the maximal size of the unlimited partition is specified as
1,000,000,000 in the recipes, and the numbers there mean MBs, so
that's 1000 TB. Today that's big enough to be considered infinite in
all practical cases. However, perform_recipe_by_lvm rescales these
numbers to mean kBs (by multiplying them by 1000), EXCEPT when the
number is 1,000,000,000 (our supposed infinity) to avoid instant
overflow. So when using LVM, the maximal size of the unlimited
partition is only 1 TB, and that isn't big enough anymore. The size
of the would-be-unlimited partition is effectively capped at 1 TB,
so on a 1.5 TB disk swap will be 0.5 TB if it's given all the rest.

> Feel free to clone the BR and reopen it (or file a new report) for
> the 1TB limit issue.

I still think that the 1TB limit issue is this exact bug report. That
500 GB in the title is 1TB less than the size of the reporter's disk.

Bug#511451: ktorrent crashes after trying to remove torrent

Bug#471021: locales: EastAsianAmbiguous character width is always 1 in UTF-8

2009-01-10 Thread Masanori Goto
wcwidth() is legacy function so that it cannot handle wide, RTL and
combined characters correctly. An environment value to select its
behavior is one way, but it's just a hack and it's hard to specify in libc.

So, according to UAX#11 definition, it says we should return
1 for EastAsiasnAmbiguous characters unless a rigid signal
(like "language tag, script identification, associated font, source of data")
is available in UTF-8. It's sure that we can introduce such kind of change
for SJIS/EUC-JP, but it's hard to decide for ja_JP.UTF-8.

Overall, we have no way to expand wcwidth() correctly and rightly,
so I think each application should handle the actual font size of characters
instead of using wcwidth().

I haven't done anything to configure NetworkManager. The system has been

Bug#511450: bugs.debian.org: please make adopting packages easier

2009-01-10 Thread gregor herrmann
Package: bugs.debian.org
Severity: wishlist

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

When adoption O/RFA'd packages it's a (minor) pain to have to copy
the complete old bug title in the retitle command:
  retitle nn ITA: $rest_of_old_title_which_is_usually_rather_long

I was thinking about two possibilities that would make this easier:
* allow regexp (at least for the retitle command):
retitle nn s/^RFA: /ITA: /
* add an ita "alias" that just does the retitle + rename
ita nn

This idea is nothing important at all but I thought you might like
the fun with regexps :)

I did it intentionally to help checking/adjusting width of
the keys when creating keyboard layout.
For example, if I set the width of the Shift key too wide,
I can see it quite obviously by issuing xvkbd -debug.

Bug#511348: Patch - SOLVED

2009-01-10 Thread Lars Hanke

Hi Russ,

I think that Kerberos library functions must all return krb5_error_code,
which should be 0 if there is no error. So:

Probably this is something to discuss with the upstream. My personal
conviction is that functions with boolean semantic, shall be boolean
valued. The function has boolean semantic, which is stressed by naming
it as past participle. This idea had its share in confusing the original
authors of the code.

Of course the boolean expression can be moved to the caller as (0 ==
krb5_db_inited(...)) or !krb5_db_inited(...) as done in keytab.c and
using an error valued function. This would beautify the API, but wreck
the semantics.

If I'm right, reverting your patch and instead changing krb5_db_inited to
the following code should also fix the problem:

It does, but it does require a code change in adb_policy_init(), which
considers krb5_db_inited() as boolean valued - and KADM5_OK=0 is false!

Could you try that and see if I'm right?

See patch attached. It does work as well -- and modifies fewer files.
KADM5_OK is from a different set than the KRB5_KDB_ errors (and defined
in a different include), so I did not use that value.

BTW: Do you know, why kadm5_flush() is implemented by closing and
re-opening the database. This creates lots of entirely useless overhead,
if a real db is at the backend. And even for plain files POSIX flush()
should as reliable.

Regards,
- lars.

It would be interesting to see /proc/devices in the installer before
you reboot.

Grub can't be used if /boot is on LVM or it isn't an ext2 (or ext3)
partition. The contents of /proc/mounts would help.

Current Syslinux has a so-called hybrid mode, which creates images
which can be used both as an ISO or as an HD image. It isn't yet
available in Lenny, but may be a way forward.

The title of the BR is "Installer tried to use 500GB as swap". That part
I've tested and solved, so this particular BR is IMO correctly closed.

And TBH I don't even see any 1TB issue in the original report and in your
analysis I have not seen *why* we're hitting a 1TB boundary (or maybe
I've missed it).

Feel free to clone the BR and reopen it (or file a new report) for the 1TB

Bug#511449: linux-image-2.6.26-1-vserver-686: Problem with Vserver CPU scheduler, vserver never hold (hold-ticks always 0)

2009-01-10 Thread Mario Abajo Duran
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-vserver-686
Version: 2.6.26-12
Severity: normal

Hi, i was trying out the token bucket directly with lenny but seems that no
configuration
makes the guest vserver get hold.
The status and the configuration of the scheduler can be shown here:
  beta:/etc/vservers/amule# cat /proc/virtual/40001/sched
  FillRate: 1,1
  Interval: 1,8
  TokensMin: 750
  TokensMax: 2988
  PrioBias: 0
  cpu 0: 2 7 0 0 0 RI 1 750 2988 1/1 1/8 0 0
  cpu 1: 62829 22 0 0 0 RI 1 750 2988 1/1 1/8 0 0

The guest was running the "burnMMX" application for some time consumming 100%
of one of
the two cpu's.

The flags of the vserver are as follows:
  beta:/etc/vservers/amule# cat flags
  sched_hard
  virt_mem
  virt_uptime
  virt_cpu
  virt_load
  virt_time

  beta:/etc/vservers/amule# cat /proc/virtual/40001/status
  UseCnt: 5
  Tasks: 2
  Flags: 0016021f0110
  BCaps: 04ff
  CCaps: 0101
  Spaces: 1c020200

I hope it wont be a configuration problem, after reading quite a few
documentation from
linux-vserver.org and googling for examples, configurations and similar cases
like this
i reached the conclusion that maybe a bug.
Thanks in advance :)

I can accept this, but then this BR should not be closed, as the 1 TB
limit (which hit the reporter) remains. People with big disks can
still get huge swaps, as no LV can suck up more than 1 TB.

Sorry if I didn't manage to make that clear previously.

Interesting. Which status bar is this?

The one included in ion3, mod_statusbar.

Offline - only salut account configured). Should I file a separate

I'm going to guess you haven't ticked the box next to your account in

Unfortunately I did enable it, so the easy case has already been ruled

If this is true then please follow a bug I just filed in the upstream

I'll follow that one out of curiousity, though - at least once it's

While I do see your point, IMO it should depend on Gnome (or rather

expected.

Empathy as an application is quite usable without a status bar albeit

TBH, I consider that part an upstream bug. If it cannot connect to the
status bar for whatever reason, it should just open a regular

The "depend on Gnome" part was a step ahead, as it still isn't working
properly with some messages on the console that suggest something is
still missing.

Bug#511448: apt_listchanges.py throws 'locale utf_8_euro not found'

2009-01-10 Thread Jörg Wölke
Package: apt-listchanges
Version: 2.83
Severity: normal

Hello!

If you use locales like "de_de.ut...@euro", the script
/usr/share/apt-listchanges/apt_listchanges.py
throws an exception ("LookupError: unknown encoding: utf_8_euro"),
because of the (incorrect) use of "locale.getdefaultlocale()[1]" in
lines 93 and 165 in apt_listchanges.py. Python can't know all the
possible locales on all possible systems. So the recommended way
is locale.getpreferredencoding(), which uses the systems API.

After changing that in lines 93 and 165 in
/usr/share/apt-listchanges/apt_listchanges.py the error disappears.

TTBOMK, yes. sv_FI should basically be Finnish formats (including
Finnish collation rules, since the alphabet is the same), Swedish
language.

Nothing, I hope :)

Disclaimer: I'm certainly not an expert on the Finnish sublocale of
Swedish; I just know what the date & time formats should be.

Comments/Problems:

Up to the rebooting stage the install went wonderfully (my respect to
the developers). However, rebooting into the installed system failed,
as the initrd incorrectly identified the root device. As it turned out, the
root device specified on Lilo's kernel command line (root=fd02 in my
case) was incorrect. The initrd /init script interprets this argument
as a hex value (0xfd02), translating it into major and minor device
numbers according to the formula MAJOR = ARG / 256, MINOR = ARG % 256.
It then uses mknod to create /dev/root using these major/minor values
(253,2 in my case).

However, the _real_ root device (/dev/mapper/lenny-root_crypt in my
case) has a major/minor of 254,2, which is one major number higher than
the value specified. So to bump the major number up by one I simply
added 256 to fd02, which gave me fe02, wrote this down on a scrap of
paper together with the contents of /proc/cmdline, and rebooted. At the
Lilo prompt I manually entered the kernel command line copied from
/proc/cmdline, adjusting the value of 'root' to 'fe02', and bootup went
perfectly from there on. After logging in to my new system I ran lilo,
which fixed the problem permanently.

My question is this: Why is the installer using Lilo (which I thought
had gone out with the dinosaurs)? Using Grub, specifying the root
device in symbolic form (i.e. /dev/mapper/lenny-root_crypt) on the
kernel command line in grub/menu.lst and making some small changes to
the initrd /init script would simplify things enormously and make for a
trouble-free reboot after installing.

Another question: Isn't it time to make USB-stick install the default
method and providing ready-made USB-stick images to the users? It's
_so_ much more convenient than fussing with CDs (which are in addition
inherently unreliable -- and not every computer has a CD drive).

What follows is the script I used to make the install USB stick:

My words may have not been clear. Let me explain. The arrays exist. The
partition (one) exists on the raid 1 array. The filesystem exists on the
array. The data is already on the filesystem. This has been the case for
about 3 years, where my array is has been used as a pure data space, not a
live bootable OS.

The debian install process (partman or whatever is the current set of
scripts), does not recognize any the filesystem on the single partition.

I am not sure if the scripts simply do not see any partitions and just assume
one partition (i.e. if I had 4 and it sees only 1 empty partition). This was
the case in the older bug report #307470 from 4 years ago.

Also I am not sure if it sees my 1 partition, but merely not recognize the
partition type and filesystem (due to using Maximize/NC/Non-Compatible with
MS-DOS) option of cfdisk). Or a combination of both conditions.

> In the end you may also have problems booting the installed system.

I am reading this Linux-RAID Wiki:

http://linux-raid.osdl.org/index.php/Tweaking%2C_tuning_and_troubleshooting

Autodetection is deprecated it says. I have set 0xfd partition types for all
RAID partitions. It says only Superblock v0.9 is compatible with autodetect.
I have superblock v1.0. Maybe this is a cause for confusion of the software.

After reading the Wiki, the instructions seem vague, referencing different
"Methods" that do the same basic process, with minor variations using: LILO or
GRUB, raidtab, initrd or initramfs.

It seems I may have to remove 1 partition from the array, repartition,
reformat, install bootable Debian on a normal partition, copy data to degraded
array, configure to boot from the degraded array, and finally add the
install-partition back to the degraded array for the rebuild.

I do not understand why a RAID array that works fine can't be recognized by
the installer. I was hoping to avoid that rebuild work, or to understand and
fix whatever is not working in the install process to make it more robust and
less time consuming for pre-existing arrays.

More research and/or advice needed.

Leif

Hi,

I've built a debugging version and used valgrind on it. It doesn't run
at a playable speed, so I didn't play long, but I did find some memory
leaks and a variable which was used uninitialized anyway. The attached
patch fixes them.

Valgrind still complains about some other things, but these were the
largest blocks of memory lost.

Thanks,
Bas

Interesting. The document I've mentioned suggests otherwise.

Well, I do have one and at least KDE apps seem to be able to use it.

A workaround for this is to execute empathy again once you've already

Thanks for the hint, that did the trick. Running the same program
(that's using some global resource) twice is usually asking for trouble
so I didn't think of trying that.
Changing from "Offline" to "Available" doesn't work (it just stays at
Offline - only salut account configured). Should I file a separate bug
about that?

I'm tempted to close this bug as invalid because empathy really is
designed for the GNOME desktop, although it is very usable anywhere
with

a status bar (I run awesome, and I know another who uses xmonad with
gnome-panel).
While I do see your point, IMO it should depend on Gnome (or rather the
relevant parts) if it doesn't work without it. I'm running konqueror and
korganizer standalone as well and they do work as expected.

PS: Thanks both for your time and your fast response.

Bug#511443: ITP: langupdate -- locate and update translation files using Emdebian TDebs

2009-01-10 Thread Neil Williams
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Neil Williams

Initial upload to experimental until at least after the Lenny release,
possibly until the time of the Squeeze release. (This would have been the
same even if Lenny had already been released by now.)

* Package name: langupdate
  Version : 0.0.6
  Upstream Author : Neil Williams
* URL : http://www.emdebian.org/emdebian/langupdate.html
* License : GPL-3+
  Programming Lang: C, C++
Description : locate and update translation files using Emdebian TDebs

Emdebian separates translations from each package to reduce the
amount of required installation space. As packages are updated,
new translations may be added as well as new packages.
 .
langupdate checks the list of installed packages, calculates
the availability of translations for your locale and checks
 which translations are already installed.

langupdate also supports an autoremove mode so that when the list of
supported locales changes, redundant translation files can be removed.

In due course, langupdate could be usable with Debian TDebs using the
draft TDeb specification: http://people.debian.org/~codehelp/tdeb/
but that will take time. Meanwhile, langupdate will help support Emdebian
development, with a little help from the experimental auto-builders.
:-)

Context:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-embedded/2009/01/msg00012.html

Before release, langupdate will be adapted to work within Debian by checking
for the existence of relevant translation files before trying to install an
Emdebian TDeb containing the same file. One reason to have langupdate in
Debian at this time is to make it simpler to integrate langupdate into
Emdebian and easier to mix Debian and Emdebian Grip. In that way, even when
installed, langupdate will be a no-op unless the Debian admin has already
done some preparation to forcibly remove at least some translation files.

(Emdebian comes in two flavours - Grip which is binary-compatible with Debian
but smaller {~50%} and Crush which is cross-built with functional differences
in the packages and much smaller than Grip. Grip is automatically generated
from existing Debian packages without recompiling. Grip does not include all
Debian packages - only those that are relevant to devices running Grip.)

http://www.emdebian.org/
http://www.emdebian.org/emdebian/flavours.html
http://www.emdebian.org/grip/index.html
http://www.emdebian.org/packages/index.html

Both Grip and Crush are likely to be released alongside Debian 5.0 "Lenny".

http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/serendipity/index.php?/archives/144-Emdebian-Grip-Debian,-only-25-smaller.html

langupdate uses libapt-pkg-dev and libglib2.0-dev and is a very different model
to localepurge:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-embedded/2009/01/msg00016.html

langupdate can use other mirrors but defaults to the Emdebian TDeb repository,
http://www.emdebian.org/locale/
(which itself needs a bit of work before langupdate is actually uploaded to
experimental).

AFAICT that cleanup is also correct, but IMO it is not suitable as a
last-minute change for Lenny. Cloning the BR as a reminder to work on
this after the release.

This looks correct as well, but we should then do the same in partman-lvm
in choose_partition/lvm/do_option.

empathy defaults to its UI being "hidden" on first run. This means that
although it's running, the only visible sign of this is an icon in the
status bar. Clicking this icon will bring up the UI.

As you're using ion3, I'm going to guess you don't have a status bar,
and therefore you're not seeing any activity upon running empathy.

A workaround for this is to execute empathy again once you've already
started it -- the new instance will find the existing instance, pop up
its UI, and thenexit. Also note that empathy remembers your hidden
preference on exit so this should only be a problem once (but the destroy
signal simple minimizes the UI, not close the application).

I'm tempted to close this bug as invalid because empathy really is
designed for the GNOME desktop, although it is very usable anywhere with
a status bar (I run awesome, and I know another who uses xmonad with

Bug#425648: Fixed in QEMU Subversion repository

2009-01-10 Thread Håkon Stordahl
Hello. This problem appears to be the result of a bug in QEMU that
have been fixed in the Subversion repository, as the following log
message indicates:

target-i386: Fix jmp im on x86_64 when executing 32-bit code

When running grub-install (32-bit) on an x86_64 Linux system in qemu, it
hangs on a pagefault forever, because an integer overflow occurs on the
IP on "jmp im". This patch masks overflows for 32 bit IPs on a 64 bit
system, just like it is done for 16 bit IPs already.

Using this patch, x86_64 openSUSE installation works again.

Bug#511199: perspic: does not work at all: complains about find arguments / segfaults upon execution

2009-01-10 Thread Steve Cotton
Package: perspic
Version: 1.5-5.1+b1
Followup-For: Bug #511199

The original report appears to be missing vital replication steps, I can
make it crash with that stack trace on my machine:

Launch the app
File->Open
Choose directory
OK

File->New also crashes with this stacktrace; and confusingly requires that
you select an existing directory as the "new" filename.

Severity should still be grave - without File->Open and File->New, the
program doesn't do much. The only other things seem to do anything are
File->Exit, font selection, and Word->Define; the latter shows a dialog, but
interaction with it leads to a different crash.

BTW, This package uses GTK1.2 and has a popcon of 25.

packages.

You can check it out from:
svn+ssh://svn.debian.org/svn/svn/debian-med/trunk/packages/libbio-graphics-perl

I have looked at the source code and the copyright and did not found
any problem.

Kind regards and thanks for working on this package

I'll reassign it to metacity, though you may be able to work around the
problem by setting /apps/metacity/general/focus_new_windows in
gconf-editor. Openbox doesn't exhibit this behavior even when "focus new
windows" is disabled.

Sorry, I don't think that will happen in the next couple of years. The
TeX Task Force has been short of manpower for the last two years, and
not sitting idly waiting for work in the time before. We are not even
using CVS any more. AFAIK none of the members uses CVS for their private
work.

Personally, I must admit that I don't care whether this bug still exists
or not. If you do, I repeat my offer to give you write access to the cvs
repository for tests - I think the bug report contains quite clear
instructions what I did. If not, I also offer to help repeating the
procedure.

Please do not forget to mention Exim here, if you're talking about real
big MTAs :)

Bug#484018: springgraph: manpage doesn't document all ways to invoke

A user that knows what I/O redirection is knows that he can redirect stdin.
Indeed, the springgraph man page is not the place to be teaching those basic
Unix skills.

The fact that the bug may not affect most users does not justify closing this
report. Also, the problem is not just that some ways to invoke are not
documented, but that this situation can cause confusion for people assuming
that the manpage is standard.

Please provide a justification for closing or reopen.

So far so good. I have not had any Iceweasel crashes yet after an
hour of trying to make it happen. I seemed to have one Epiphany
crash, but I could not repeat it.

Bug#511431: xterm: wishlist allowSecurityRiskOps, allowEscSeqs

2009-01-10 Thread Paul Szabo
Package: xterm
Version: 222-1etch4
Severity: wishlist

Xterm uses allowWindowOps and allowFontOps, both defaulting to false,
see e.g.

  http://bugs.debian.org/510030

(and references therein about this being an old and recurring problem).
Both resources disable many useful operations, so some people explicitly
turn them on; but then they are exposed to security risks. As an
enhancement, I propose a new resource

  allowSecurityRiskOps

which (alone or in conjuntion with allowWindowOps and allowFontOps)
would control security-relevant parts ("whacking" un-sanitized strings
into the input buffer, set X properties and UDK, maybe paste64, VT200
modes, or re-enable setting the answerback message). Then (most of) the
functionality of allowWindowOps and allowFontOps could safely be turned
on (maybe by default even?), and it would be clear what is dangerous.

---

Occasionally I foolishly do "cat binary-file" and get annoyed by the
"1;2c" in the input buffer and/or the need to shift-M2 "soft reset"
and/or "stty sane" to proceed. As an enhancement, I propose a new
resource

  allowEscSeqs

that would control interpretation of any ESC sequences (except maybe
arrow keys); then paranoid people (who have no use for VT100 features)
could turn that off.

---

I do not attach patches to implement the above, do not want another
rejection of "your code is incorrect".

Cheers,

OK. First set of patches. This goes as far as getting the modules
shipped with Zaptel built . We still need to extend those to the other
modules we ship.

All of them are rather trivial backports of upstream changes. But then
again I see that the size of my message is 23k .

Bug#511429: libqt-perl(GNU/k*BSD): FTBFS: out of date libtool scripts

2009-01-10 Thread Petr Salinger

Package: libqt-perl
Severity: important
Version: 3.008-3.1
Tags: patch
User: glibc-bsd-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: kfreebsd

Hi,

the current version fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD,
because of outdated libtool.

The version of libtool used in libqt-perl is too old to correctly
support Debian GNU/k*BSD, libtool 1.5.2-1 or later is need.

Here is how to update the libtool in your package:

apply patch bellow for current autoconf

  cp -f /usr/share/libtool/libtool.m4 admin/libtool.m4.in
  cp -f /usr/share/libtool/ltmain.sh admin/ltmain.sh
  cp -f /usr/share/misc/config.guess admin/config.guess
  cp -f /usr/share/misc/config.sub admin/config.sub

  make -f admin/Makefile.common

It would also be nice if you can ask upstream to update libtool
in their next release.

Thanks in advance

 Petr

You can see for yourself: there isn't. And there should at most be one
-dbg package for all the emacs22 flavors to avoid archive bloat; since
it might be useful, I've played around with creating one. A debdiff is
attached, the size of the emacs22-dbg package is not so bad: 4.1
Megabyte for the .deb, 9.7 Megabyte for the installed files.

Note that I had to bump the debhelper compatibility level to 5 to make
"dh_strip --dbg-package" work properly.

Cheers,
   Sven

The version of libtool used in webcpp is too old to correctly
support Debian GNU/k*BSD, libtool 1.5.2-1 or later is need.

You can try to update the admin/ directory from the latest KDE SVN

and after thar run "make -f admin/Makefile.common".

It would also be nice if you can ask webcpp upstream to update libtool
