thanks for your hint regarding the plugin debug package!

Thanks! Seems upstream has commited some fix to CVS regarding this

Bug#521325: At least 0.6.12-5 of the package works

2009-04-02 Thread Kay Hannay
Hi,

I have the same problem here on three different machines. All machines
are running Debian testing with the latest updates. DBUS is sending
the events on the system message bus, but ivman does not care. This
behaviour changed a few weeks ago. In the beginning I thought that I
changed something that brakes the functionality, but now it seems that
ivman is responsible.

On all of my machines, ivman is running in user mode with a specific
user configuration. The system-wide ivman is disabled.

I installed version 0.6.12-5 of the package and it works fine. I don't
know whether there are more recent versions available. The problem at
least occurs on 0.6.14-3.1.

Best regards

 Hi!

I would like to be able to easily switch between different user agent
strings (it's useful for some stupid web sites that refuse to work
when you announce yourself as a browser and/or platform they don't
 want to know anything about...).

 I followed the instructions on
 http://www.geticeweasel.org/useragent/
and installed the User Agent Switcher (which is apparently distributed
under the terms of the GNU GPL v3 license), along with the
Firefox 2 (Windows XP) definition file.

It seems to work, but... doing all these steps manually is really
unpractical (and repeating them for each user and/or box is a real pain).
It would be great if the User Agent Switcher add-on were already
included in the Debian package, along with some common definition
files (such as Firefox 2 (Windows XP)).

 Could this be done, please?
 Pretty please?

No. What can be done, though would be to have a package for the
extension.

Mike

Bug#522251: dictd: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2009-04-02 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: dictd
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Sunday, March 15, 2009, I notified you of the beginning of a review process
concerning debconf templates for dictd.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

However, please try to avoid uploading dictd with these changes
right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Sunday, April 05, 2009, when I
will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Sunday, April 26, 2009. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or
changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around Monday, April 27, 2009, I will contact you again and will send a final
patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Bug#522253: no longer shows the reader in iceweasel

2009-04-02 Thread Damyan Ivanov
Package: libopensc2
Version: 0.11.7-1
Severity: important

(This is pretty much grave to me; I use 'important' as I assume the
problem is related to the type of reader I use)

Since the upgrade from 0.11.4-5 to 0.11.7-1, the reader is no longer
shown in iceweasel, making it impossible to use.

With 0.11.4-5 I'd see 8 OpenCT reader (detached) entries under the
opensc security module in iceweasel, first two being populated when the
reader is plugged.

With 0.11.7-1, I see 16 Virtual slot entries and none of them
populates when the reader is plugged.

The reader is OmniKey CardMan 6121 USB.

With both versions the default reader.conf is not changed (i.e. it is
what the .deb ships).

Downgrading solely libopensc2 to 0.11.4-5 is sufficient for iceweasel to
see the reader again (after restarting it), even if all the rest of the
opensc packages stay at 0.11.7-1.

With both versions, opencs-tool -l shows the reader when plugged and
opensc-tool -a shows some 'ATR' in hexadecimal so I suspect something
is wrong in the communication with iceweasel. The security module loaded
is /usr/lib/opensc-pkcs11.so.

I'd gladly suply any other information you'd need or try different
things to help you solve this.

Still works, I built the package 11 times (i386 sid cowbuilder
   chroot) without any problems.

h...for me it FTBFS in my sid i386 cowbuilder chroot (should be up
to date), but works fine in my sid amd64 schroot (up to date for sure)
and my i386 sid schroot (probably not up to date) and my squeezish
  development system...

The getprotobyname part suggests it's looking for /etc/protocols,
maybe it's just missing a build-dependency on netbase?

indeed that does fix the problem. (at least for me)

You need to set the title format correctly. My guess is you haven't done
that.

XMMS/Audacious 1.3: Title format needs to be set as '%p | %a | %t' in
the players preferences. Delimiter choice '|' can be changed in
musictracker settings.

It should be noted somewhere,it is on the homepage but being in the
README or somewhere more obvious would help.

SPI does not accept copyright assignments on behalf of Debian. Without an
explicit transfer of copyright, there's no legal theory under which SPI is
the copyright holder of this work, because this does not constitute a Work

I've fixed this in the file being committed, as well as fixing Rudy's
original copyright statement.

This (and many other occurrences of the same change) are a question of
vocabulary preference, not of correctness, and up to this point the Debian
Spanish translation team has preferred to use the term fichero. I see
that you requested review of this translation on the debian-l10n-spanish
list before forwarding it to us as a bug report, but that no one replied.
Unless you can point to a clear statement of the debian-l10n-spanish team
that the preferred terminology has changed, I'm unwilling to take this
change; as a maintainer, I'm unwilling to have my packages caught in the
cross-fire of a dialect war.

translated (or the translation should be given in addition to the original

please feel free to propose an update.

(OTOH, it's also not critical to get the translation of this string right,
since it only applies to upgrades from OpenLDAP 2.3 and those are not
supported for squeeze.)

The final po file as committed to the repo is attached.

Bug#522262: RFA: twofish

2009-04-02 Thread Branden Robinson
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the twofish package.

The package description is:

This package contains a header file and static library implementing the
Twofish cryptographic algorithm, one of the five finalists in the AES
(Advanced Encryption Standard) competition sponsored by the United States's
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

The main properties of this library are:
 * Free: The library can be freely used for any application. (For details see
the licensing terms and disclaimer in the source code file itself.)
 * Fast: The code has been optimised for speed, at the expense of memory use
   and code size.
 * Easy to use: Care has been taken to make the code easy to integrate into a
larger project. Extensive comments explain how to perform the integration
and how to use the library.
 * Portable: The default code is written in fully portable C. By adjusting
certain macro definitions the user can provide platform-specific code for
certain functions, which can improve the speed.
 * Documented: Extensive documentation is available in the comments of the
source files. This includes information about integration, optimisation
for specific platforms, the library API, and detailed explanation of all
   the code.
 * Self-testing: Extensive self-tests are run every time the library is
   initialised.
 * Large: The code has been optimised for speed, which leads to the use of
large tables. No attempt has been made to minimise the code or data size.

Because the interface of this library has not yet been declared stable by
its author, Niels Ferguson, it is currently available only as a static
library, not as a shared object.

Hi,

I don't know anything about logcheck and the patch does not seem to be complete.

Where should I drop this file? Apparently there are multiple /etc/logcheck.*
directories.

Could you provide a complete patch (against the source package) or at least more

I did not change anything related to the resolution or to the options in

[CCing upstream author, and including his spamfilter bypass token:

I request an adopter for the read-edid package.

The package description is:
 read-edid consists of two tools:

get-edid uses a VESA VBE 2 interrupt service routine request to read a 128
byte EDID version 1 structure from your graphics card, which retrieves
this information from the monitor via the Data Display Channel (DDC).

parse-edid parses this data structure and outputs data suitable for
inclusion into the XFree86 or X.org configuration file.

get-edid uses architecture-specific methods for querying the video
hardware (real-mode x86 instructions on i386, Open Firmware device tree
parsing on PowerMac) and is therefore only available for i386 and powerpc
 architectures.

 Hi Felipe,

The Debian Multimedia Maintainers will be dropping libjack0.100.0-0
soon, so you should switch to using upstream's default name. Changing
  libjack0.100.0-0 to libjack0 in debian/control and dropping
  debian/patches/80_libjack.dpatch should be enough.

Unfortunately not in the longer term, there is a more serious bug that
amsynth does not work with JACK 2 at all (for example, the current
 upstream 1.9.2 release of JACK).

I have contacted the upstream author of amsynth about this, but it seems
the application would need a partial re-write, as the way it currently
 opens JACK ports is non-standard.

For the short run it doesn't matter, because jack2 is not going to be in
debian soonish, and we are transitioning from versioned jack packages to
unversioned ones, so this should be fixed anyways.

BTW, where can I find information on jack2? I can't find anything other than
the source tarball in jack's webpage.

Saludos,
Felipe Sateler

Bug#522220: statsvn: Improbable values in activity charts

I'm unsure, but I think that statsvn counts commits as one commit
per file. I don't have the means to check that now, but would that
make sense ?

I think statsvn did also severely overestimate the number of code lines.

From what I remember, statsvn counts changed lines as LOC: if you
have one file with one line that you've changed hundreds of times,
you'll get a high line count.

I'll try that on a dummy repository some time later.

  Cheers,

As I Have thorsten the bt and he posted it there, boost was involved in the
backtrace [1]
and given the histories of OOo (interestingly not 3.0.1 but 3.1.0 only, hmm..)
breaking on boost updates I tried building with boost 1.35 and boost 1.34.

1.35 - crashes too
1.34 - works

So I'll just enable the build with 1.34 for experimentals packages again. At
least temporarily.
When 1.34 is removed and we don't have a fix yet I don't like to have to revert
to internal
boost, but that's probably what I need to do :/

Let's see..

Bug#247985: wget: OMG! It doesn't download custom error pages.

2009-04-02 Thread spg
Package: wget
Version: 1.11.4-2
Followup-For: Bug #247985

Wget should have an option to actually save the message it receives
after any non-200 HTTP result code. Sometimes there are really
useful information in that pages.
As an example for a use-case:
wget is used to monitor a site periodically and that site reports some details
in 404 page, that are used for diagnostics. It is not possible to record that
   information with wget. Why?

-- System Information:
Debian Release: 5.0

Also what's with the dot between Kerberos and framework?

The same typos are also in the README file. Perhaps that should be
edited as well (and rewrapped for good measure).
I've fixed this upstream, it'll be pulled in with the next release.
Thanks.

Bug#521872: [Build-common-hackers] Bug#521872: makefile-vars.mk clobbers LDFLAGS and others

2009-04-02 Thread Martin Pitt
Hi Jonas, hi Peter,

your reasoning makes sense to me entirely, thanks for the analysis.
(I'm not a build system guru either, I just know that they all suck :-) )

I set the Ubuntu bug to wontfix for now.

Thanks,

Bug#195299: nmap: 'massping' breaks certain ping scans

2009-04-02 Thread Fyodor
On Wed, Apr 01, 2009 at 04:46:35PM -0400, Justin Azoff wrote:
I used git bisect against git://git.debian.org/~lamont/nmap.git to track this
down to a commit, and the result was d37f15389455ff474c00223cbf18be4117cedd76.

 The changelog for that says:

+o Included David's major massping migration project. The same
+ underlying engine is now uses for ping scanning as for port
+ scanning. We hope this will lead to better performance and
+ accuracy, as well as helping to de-bloat Nmap. Please test it out
+ and report your results to nmap-dev! For more details, see
 + http://seclists.org/nmap-dev/2007/q3/0277.html

 the test I ran was:

 time sudo nmap --host_timeout 2000 -n -sP -PE a.b.0.0/16 -oG - | grep
 'Status: Up' -c

I verified that with the previous rev
 (f501df2e2a74f0bc8ce35a9ddc67d6864afddf96) the results are:
 num: 3868
 time: 9:36

 with d37f15389455ff474c00223cbf18be4117cedd76 the results are:
 num: 291
 time: 1:11

so it runs in 1/10th the time, but finds 1/10th the hosts.

As a workaround I changed the timeout to 3. That finds the expected
number of hosts, and still runs in about 13 minutes.

Unfortunately I'm not sure what the fix for this is :-) It may be
working as designed and something just needs to be documented better...

Hi Justin. If you can reproduce this with the latest version of Nmap
(4.85BETA7), we'd be happy to hear about it and might be able to fix
it upstream. You can obtain the latest version of Nmap at
http://nmap.org/download.html. Then you can find bug reporting
instructions at http://nmap.org/book/man-bugs.html.

Nmap 4.62 was released on May 3, 2008.
So it is almost a year old now.

Cheers,

Sure, but with that kind of error message it is quiet difficult to
figure out, what's wrong. And choosing generic/generic when I know
exactly what operating system I want to run within the guest, wouldn't
 come in my mind :-)

A chance to already select the NIC model on creating the guest would be
 great.
I've requested this upstream some time ago but they want to keep the

virtinst api has all that's needed.

Bug#522264: dovecot-auth startup failure with libicudata40.so

2009-04-02 Thread Steffen Ille
I've switched back to dovecot Version 1.1.12-1 and it also NOT worked in
the first try. So I changed some settings and tried around with the
/etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf and the result was, that if I got under an
special limit with two settings the error occured again and when I rised
these settings to an higher value it works:

login_process_size = 64 # SUGGESTED
login_process_size = 16 # WORKS
login_process_size = 8  # DIES WITH ERROR

auth_process_size = 256 # SUGGESTED
auth_process_size = 32  # WORKS
auth_process_size = 16  # DIES WITH ERROR

Maybe this helps to come behind the cause.
I believe in Version 1.1.13-2 this should fix it, too.

The romanian translation of the UI has just passed 60%. While it cannot

I should get it from ftp.linux.cz from DEV300?

Yes, as Alex Szasz has mentioned in the mail discussion last week from the
 branch for 3.2

OK. But then I don't feel really good applying a to-be-3.2 GSI to 3.0, but I'll
do it for the 3.1
packages.

Besides that, unless something serious happens - I don't plan a 3.0.1 upload
anymore... :(
But if there should be one I'll rethink whether this could be included.

Actually 60% is translated and validated, and around 90% if I am not
mistaken translated but not reviewed yet.

Ah, OK :)

From a valgrind log with piding:
http://downloads.jhr-online.de/valgrind.txt

This looks very much like a problem in either liblrdf0 or libraptor,
causing memory corruption. I'll reassign this to liblrdf0 as it's the
next package in the stack ;)

From the valgrind log it seems that pidgin uses libxml for parsing the
XMPP protocol while liblrdf uses libraptor which uses libxml for parsing
RDF files. Now there seems to be some kind of conflict between those,
maybe because raptor overrides some error function from libxml which
confuses pidgin. Maybe it's simply impossible to use libxml directly
from an application that also uses libraptor

In any way there are a lot of memory corruptions here and the crashes
always happen at different places it seems. And I don't think it's a
gst-plugins-bad bug at all as the only thing it does (related to this
problem) is calling lrdf_read_file() with some RDF file.

Bug#503367: Again: Bug#503367: plink: file conflict with putty-tools

2009-04-02 Thread Daniel Leidert
Andreas Tille wrote:

in October last year there was a longish discussion about name space
pollution regarding plink. If you like to spend some time you should
read the complete log of #503367 [1].

I decided to put an end now on this issue to make sure it will
not remain as is for ever and renamed the entry in /usr/bin.
This is explained in README.Debian of this package (see svn[2]).

Two questions are left on my side:

1. On the one hand plink upstream claimed on their website[3] that
Debian *has* renamed plink to snplink (which is not really true
because the discussion ended without any real action). But Gentoo
went the same road to follow Debian.

So there is one established way which is accepted upstream to
   handle this problem.

On the other hand there is this other biological project which
has a snplink as well.[4] While chances are not really high
that this software will also be packaged - you can not know.

What about using /usr/bin/PLINK? I can't find a requirement in the
policy to use lowercase characters for a binary/script. Maybe I missed
it?

So what is better: Just seeking for another name which hopefully
is singular and asking upstream as well as Gentoo to change as
well or live with the small risk to run the same circle of name
space pollution in case the other snplink will be packaged?

2. Is the information that plink was renamed to snplink visible
enough or should I rather use a debconf note to make users really
aware what they have to do?

Well, a NEWS entry is mandatory in this situation. I would further
suggest to put this information into the package description too and
of course leave an entry in README.Debian.

Regards, Daniel

 * merge changes from new upstream version
 * make a few changes
 * generate changelog with git dch debian -N newvers, dist == UNRELEASED

 * test, make a few more changes
 * try to generate updated changelog

the result is git dch gets confused and assumes that i'm building on top of
the latest version mentioned in the dirty copy of the changelog, and then
dies when it can't find a tag for that version.
I'm sure I'm missing something but wouldn't this be fixed by using:
git-dch -N newvers -S -a

It would be nice if the long description of your package could consist

The program 'firefox-bin' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 115 error_code 8 request_code 145 minor_code 3)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Bug#522216: rxvt-unicode: patch for tabbed

2009-04-02 Thread Gerfried Fuchs
Hi!

* Gerfried Fuchs rho...@debian.at [2009-04-01 20:34:01 CEST]:
Find attached the patch for the file and the complete file for
convenience - including a hint that it lacks copyright informations. ;)

... I unfortunately did a small mistake in the patch:

 +   if (not defined $self-{ctrlcurs}
 +  || $self-{ctrlcurs} =~ /^\s*(?:off|false|0)\s*$/i) {
 +  $self-{ctrlcurs} = 0;
 +   } else {
 + # true, default
 +  $self-{ctrlcurs} = 1;
 +   }

This snippet is unfortunately wrong in its logic. The proper part would
be:

   if (defined $self-{ctrlcurs}
   $self-{ctrlcurs} =~ /^\s*(?:off|false|0)\s*$/i) {

Please find attached an updated patch and the complete file for
convenience.

 Thanks. :)

Hi!

It would be nice if the long description of your package could consist
of full sentences[1], the first part isn't really one.

So long, and thanks for your great work nevertheless!

I couldn't recover my old DB file but I remember that although
db4.7_dump could parse the headers, using db4.7_dump -d a file.db
which should have dumped everything, only the metadata was displayed,
not the data itself.

Bug#515908: [oprofile] It's already trying to link libbfd.a but failing

2009-04-02 Thread Michel Dänzer

See #450607... Although I specifically mentioned in
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=450607#10 that the
patch requires re-generating configure, apparently that wasn't done. :(

Note that in the meantime linking libbfd.a also requires -lz. For now
this may require adding a build-dependency on zlib1g-dev, though
probably binutils-dev should actually depend on it.

After changing that and running configure, none of the generated
binaries link dynamically against libbfd for me according to ldd.
Probably debian/patches/libbfd-gui.patch should just be modified
accordingly.

I'm unsure, but I think that statsvn counts commits as one commit

It would probably explain the result, but would not really make sense
because in Subversion commits are truly atomic. Counting each file
commited as a separate commit is very misleading. However, the
distribution of files commited might be an interesting statictic, too.

Thanks for your effort,

I don't know anything about logcheck and the patch does not seem to be complete.

Logcheck files are installed with dh_installlogcheck (link below). I'll

Could you provide a complete patch (against the source package) or at least more
detailed instructions how to correctly use it.

If I do a complete patch, which version do you want it against?

I couldn't recover my old DB file but I remember that although
 db4.7_dump could parse the headers, using db4.7_dump -d a file.db
which should have dumped everything, only the metadata was displayed,
 not the data itself.

Ok, I can confirm this here with a simple test case that registers as
version: 7 according to db_dump: creating it with db3_load I'm unable to
see the data, creating it with db4.2_load I am. My understanding is that
this is supposed to be supported since it's a version 7 db in both cases, so
I'm reassigning this to the db package.

Bug#503367: Again: Bug#503367: plink: file conflict with putty-tools

2009-04-02 Thread Andreas Tille

On Thu, 2 Apr 2009, Daniel Leidert wrote:

Maybe I missed
it?

A Plink was discussed and refused [1] and finally *any* rename has the
same problem - it breaks existing scripts. I personally would not have
a problem to use any case variation.

Well, a NEWS entry is mandatory in this situation. I would further
suggest to put this information into the package description too and
of course leave an entry in README.Debian.

I'll do so.

Thanks

 Andreas.

Bug#522277: analog: Only reads first stream in multi-stream bz2 log files

2009-04-02 Thread Andrew McCarthy
Package: analog
Version: 2:6.0-17~lenny1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Multi-stream bz2 files are created if you concatenate two normal bz2
files. Analog's current code stops at the end of the first stream. This
happens without error, and simply shows up as an unexplained failure to
read to the end of the log file.

The attached patch checks if the end-of-stream is also the end-of-file,
and if not, it opens the next stream and continues on.

A workaround is to use
UNCOMPRESS *.bz2 bzcat
in your configuration file, thus overriding the built-in bzip code.

Bug#522276: apt-get dist-upgrade ignores some downgrades when pinning

2009-04-02 Thread John Hughes
Package: apt
Version: 0.7.20.2
Severity: normal

Working in a somewhat strange environment I have a private repository
that includes some (deliberately) out of date packages. I use a pin in
order to get apt to use my packages in preference to the standard ones.

apt-cache policy shows that my packages are candidates for use, for
example:

# apt-cache policy dpkg
dpkg:
  Installed: 1.14.25
  Candidate: 1.14.22.ssi1
  Version table:
 *** 1.14.25 0
500 http://ftp.fr.debian.org lenny/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 1.14.22.ssi1 0
   1001 http://deb.openssi.org lenny/openssi Packages

And

# apt-cache policy udev
udev:
  Installed: 0.125-7
  Candidate: 0.080-1
  Version table:
 *** 0.125-7 0
500 http://ftp.fr.debian.org lenny/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 0.080-1 0
   1001 http://deb.openssi.org lenny/openssi Packages

If I try to do a apt-get dist-upgrade it will try to downgrade some
packages, but not all. Why?

# apt-get dist-upgrade

Notice it didn't want to upgrade udev?

If I manualy try to install udev it does say it's going to downgrade.

This used to work (on Etch and Sarge).

I know that downgrades are not recommended, but this is rather a bore.

Thanks Adam for the pointer.

I am cloning a bugreport to debhelper, where the actual error is
triggered.

With this change is bash/posh[1], I guess anyone not using dash as
/bin/sh and runs debconf-using maintainer scripts under set -u will
suffer.

[1] at least the bash change is not yet in sid, only in
experimental; not sure about posh

There is a bug reported against bash related to this:

Bug#522278: rdiff-backup: --test-server doesn't work when --restrict is in use

2009-04-02 Thread Andreas Olsson
Package: rdiff-backup
Version: 1.2.7-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu jaunty ubuntu-patch

As of rdiff-backup 1.2.6 --test-server always fails if --restrict is in use on
the recieving side. See
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rdiff-backup/+bug/349072 for more
information.

This can be solved by backporting a patch provided by upstream.

*** /tmp/tmpTsrfhx
In Ubuntu, we've applied the attached patch to achieve the following:

  * Makes --restrict and --test-server work together again (LP #349072)
  * Adds dpatch, to handle 01_fix_restricted_test-server_option.dpatch

We thought you might be interested in doing the same.

Bug#520095: autofs: 100% reproducible on NFS root for the last two releases

2009-04-02 Thread Anton Ivanov
Package: autofs
Version: 4.1.4+debian-2.1

I had the same problem on NFS root with Sarge and it still exists in Lenny.

Prior to Sarge the autofs init script was checking if the mountpoint dirs
exist and if not - creating them. Without this it is broken on NFS root
systems (100% reproducible).

Bug#522150: amsynth: Depends on libjack0.100.0-0

2009-04-02 Thread Daniel James

Hi Felipe,

jack2 is not going to be in
debian soonish

JACK 2 has been the upstream release since February, so I hope it will
be in Sid soon.

we are transitioning from versioned jack packages to
unversioned ones, so this should be fixed anyways.

Well, JACK 2 is a complete rewrite so there are likely to be other issues.

BTW, where can I find information on jack2? I can't find anything other than
the source tarball in jack's webpage.

If you look under the former upstream name 'jackdmp' (Jack Daemon for
Multiple Processors) then you will find more information, e.g.
http://www.grame.fr/~letz/jackdmp.html and
http://lac.zkm.de/2005/papers/letz_et_al.pdf

Cheers!

A Plink was discussed and refused [1]

IMO just changing one character is not good. But the renaming it to PLINK
- how the whole project is called, seems sufficient to me.

Further the article you linked contains just a user opinion and states
no annoying and ugly - maybe this should have been not or so - I
don't know. But it's just a user opinion, not a TC decision or
recommendation.

and finally *any* rename has the
same problem - it breaks existing scripts.

That's true. But I could imagine, that a rename from bin/plink to
bin/PLINK gets more support from upstream and maybe upstream then
is willing to implement this on the upstream side (use PLINK instead
of plink and make plink a symbolic link (or a copy at Windows)
for backwards compatibility).

E.g. the html-xml-utils author also changed *several* binary names
because of conflicts with existing tools on request (he simply
made a new major release 5 with the new names). PLINKs upstream
can't ignore the conflict. putty is not a program you cannot
expect in scientific pools. I would say: there is a good chance,
that you'll find putty in e.g. university PC pools especially
in those, also providing Windows as os.

Bug#522281: certtool does not ask for a key's passphrase if it is using a template

If you attempt to use a pkcs8 private key with a template file, and that

error:

certtool: importing --load-privkey: ca-key.pem: Decryption has failed.

I am not sure which is worse - putting the passphrase in the template
file or asking questions in batch mode, but the patch to allow the
latter is simple:

Possibly the if clause could be extended so that an option can be added

alternatively, that the batch process can be interrupted to ask for the
passphrase if necessary).

Bug#522283: unable to install lilo on degraded RAID device ( failed disk is the first in array )

2009-04-02 Thread Christian Schöniger
Package: lilo
Version: 1:22.8-7
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

If the first physical device of a RAID1 array is faulty or removed, lilo fails
to install.
It doesn't get valid informations about the device (md: RAIDset device 0 =
0x) and didn't resume with the next disk.
In raid.c lilo should loop through all devices ( for (pass=0; pass
raid_limit; pass++) )
to get the disk geometry. But raid_limit is set to md_array_info.active_disks (
1 ) and getting
informations about the faulty or removed device is skipped.

The attached patch really scans all devices to get all required information.

Bug#475852: confirmed for 2.6.26 and 2.6.29

2009-04-02 Thread Pablo López Martín
I have the same problem as David. I confirm bug in kernels 2.6.26 and
2.6.29. I'm using an ALPS Touchpad in my Toshiba Satellite Pro M10.
Advanced features in X like vertical/horizontal scrolling don't work
because kernel doesn't recognize the mouse as a touchpad but as a PS/2
Generic Mouse. I've looked in launchpad/google/debian bugtrack systems
and this problem affects a lot of distros/hardware. All points it's a
problem with the input subsystem. I've seen reports of people that say
adding i8042.nomux=1 on boot fixes it for them. It doesn't for me. It's
not a hardware error (at least in my case) because touchpad works
flawless in windows. It does look like a regression because this
touchpad usd to work for me on a debian of 4 years ago (sorry i dont
remember kernel version because i did a fresh install on this long
forgotten laptop).

Sorry for my sucky english and worse presentation skills, tell me if
you need any more information attached.

Thanks in advance,

~ Pablo

Bug#521949: CVE-2009-0790: DoS

2009-04-02 Thread Steffen Joeris
Hi Rene

Unfortunately, this doesn't apply as dpd code seems to have moved out of
demux.c (I didn't find any of the patch context). Have you had contact with
 openswan upstream concerning this bug?

Isn't the vulnerable code in programs/pluto/ikev1.c?

Cheers
Steffen

Bug#522284: sarg: getword loop detected (bug in utils.c, name_month function?)

2009-04-02 Thread Vaclav Smilauer
Package: sarg
Version: 2.2.5-2
Severity: important
Tags: patch

On squid-generated data, sarg fails with the message. This started only a few
weeks ago.

 /etc/cron.daily/sarg:
 SARG: getword loop detected.
 SARG: searching for 'x2c'
SARG: Maybe you have a broken record or garbage in your access.log file.

Running with some debugging output, I found that this problem is triggered from
util.c:339, in void name_month(char *month). The last call of getword from this
function passes sizeof(month) as string length argument, but sizeof(char*) is
always
4, since it is a pointer. Instead, it should be strlen(m), which is the string
from
which the month name is to be taken.

Patch below, I ask someone for a quick review.

Regards, Václav Šmilauer

Bug#404640: Still insecure?

2009-04-02 Thread Alexander Kurtz
Hello Julien,

If my message has been FUD, I'm really sorry for that. However I believe
that there are a few things we should be talked about (calmly).

  1. is bullshit,
I agree that one can argue about that point. It is certainly necessary
for some users to configure mt-daapd remotely. However, can you please
explain me, why this is enabled by default? CUPS is also reachable from
localhost only, in it's default setting, but I'd bet that one can
configure this.

  2. is debatable, but really not a big deal either, it's a matter of
 policy,
As you said, it's a matter of policy. However, predictable passwords are
never good, are they?

  3. is wrong, plain and simple,
You are right. This has been fixed completely. No further discussion
needed.

  4. is wrong on the permissions, correct on the plaintext password.
You are right. But I still think that a hashed pw would be _better_.
It _might_ be even better to take the root pw like CUPS does.

I wanted to thank you for your immediate response. I hope we will find a
good solution together, but even if we don't we have at least discussed
the problem which is always better than not discussing it.

Best regards

Alexander Kurtz

Bug#514379: firebird2.0-classic-common postinst script does not create proper user:group

2009-04-02 Thread Damyan Ivanov

thanks

-=| Fabricio Cannini - Yahoo, Fri, Feb 06, 2009 at 08:25:57PM -0200 |=-
 Package: firebird2.0-classic
 Version: 2.0.3.12981.ds1-14~bpo40+1

When performing its instalation routines, the said script does not create the
 proper user:group tuple.

Was there an error message?

Something like this, in firebird2.0-server-common.postinst, would
 solve the problem:

According to adduser(1), --group alone shall be sufficient:

  Add a system user
If called with one non-option argument and the --system
option, adduser will add a system user. If a user with
the same name already exists in the system uid range (or, if
the uid is specified, if a user with that uid already
exists), adduser will exit with a warning.

By default, system users are placed in the nogroup group.
To place the new system user in an already existing group,
use the --gid or --ingroup options. To place the new
system user in a new group with the same ID, use the --group
 option.

Running the above command in a fresh chroot runs fine. Even with
adduser from Etch. I looked at the changelog and see no changes that
would alter that behaviour between the Etch version and now.

So, how can I reproduce that?
