Bug#531003: tunnel does not survive suspend

2009-05-28 Thread Michal Čihař

aiccu tunnel does not survive suspend and aiccu itself does not recover
from this state. Stopping and starting it again makes it work, maybe
dropping script in /etc/pm/sleep.d/, which would do restart on resume
would be good enough.

Are you really using nautilus in browser mode? In spatial mode there is
no sidebar.

Hi,

bug)

Somebody already filed a bug against initramfs-tools for this 530592,
but maybe it belongs more to lvm2. I don't know.
We had first a patch included which disables the usage of root=UUID= on
RAID and LVM.
Ubuntu had dropped it since we included it and they don't have a single
bug report that this doestn't work.
Our dmsetup got now an udev rule too for the disk/by-uuid symlinks and
it gets included into the initrd, so we thought this would be fixed on
Debian too. But seems like that's wrong.

The "Package Details:" section is correct, meaning that it includes the

only for installed packages pending an upgrade (but from what I know this is
writed
by the apt-listchanges tool).

Here it is the reported packages real status:

Bug#530790: [Fwd: Re: ld in hppa reports "no .eh_frame_hdr table will be created"]

2009-05-28 Thread Helge Deller
From: John David Anglin

I doubt this is the same bug as it would occur linking almost everything.

A testcase is needed to determine the cause. The message indicates there
probably is a dynamic relocation in .eh_frame. This is just a performance
issue (on hpux we are stuck with dynamic relocations -- well actually
we may be able to use segment relative relocations to avoid the problem,
but the support to do this isn't completely there).

What command-line parameters is the continuously started process started
with?

Do you confirm you have show_desktop unchecked and that the bug
disappears if you check it, or is it a different issue? (Well, probably
not so different…)

Is there another nautilus process running while this is happening? Is it
working correctly?

Could you resend your patch? It seems it got corrupted.

Why not join the Debian Multimedia team and have faad2 team maintained? You
don't have to give up on faad2.

To the Debian Multimedia team, would anyone mind if faad2 becomes team
maintained?

You probably down't even need to rebuild the udeb in order to test this.

What you can do is testing in expert mode, to be sure to you'll do the
install step by step.

Then procees ormally with the regular images up to the partitioning
step.

Then, before entering the "Disc partitioning" step, switch to console
2, open a shell and edit the relevant file (there is an editor in D-I:
nano).

This is a very clever way to deliver pre-installed laptops, indeed, so
I would welcome a patch allowing such preseeding of the passphrase.

Bug#530776: lvm2: lv not activated in initrd.img leading to a system able to mount /

2009-05-28 Thread Vincent Danjean
# the bug is due to grub-pc using UUID for the root=... command line
# kernel parameter
# I'm reassigning the bug even if, perhaps, lvm2 initrd script needs
# to support this situation (in this case, feel free to clone this bug)
reassign 530776 grub-pc
thanks

This bug is due to my grub upgrade:
2009-05-27 01:47:18 upgrade grub-pc 1.96+20090317-1 1.96+20090523-1
Without any warning, grub start to use an root=UUID=... kernel parameter.
It is breaking existing working setup because initrd lvm2 script only
activates lvm VG corresponding to the root partition (normal : it should
not touch anything that look like lvm2) but it detects the VG of the root
partition with its name (/dev/mapper/...). Using UUID breaks this behavior.

The workaround is to set GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true in /etc/default/grub

However, I do not think this is a fix because grub-pc breaks existing
working configuration on upgrade and it is not easy to find the root
of the problem if we do not already know this problem exists.

Vincent

Bug#530998: libxml2-utils: unhelpful error parsing infinitely recursive parameter entity

2009-05-28 Thread Drake Wilson
Package: libxml2-utils
Version: 2.7.3.dfsg-1
Severity: minor

Context: a file named loop.xml containing the following text (sans
initial vertical bar and space):
|
|
| %x;
| ]>
|

Running [xmllint loop.xml] produces the following output:
| Entity: line 1: parser error : internal error
|  %x;

| Entity: line 1:
| %x;
| ^
| Entity: line 1: parser error : DOCTYPE improperly terminated

The XML is obviously bogus, but the error messages could be improved:
ideally it would result in a graceful detection rather than an
"internal error".

Bug#475097: powersaved: Thinkpad T60: Fn+F4 no longer suspends-to-ram machine

2009-05-28 Thread Andrew Pimlott
There appears to have been some progress on this bug. powersaved now
responds to Fn+F4. It seems to get the event from HAL (when I stop hal,
powersaved no longer responds). Wow, is the future really here?? No,
things are still badly broken:

- Fn+F4 suspends to disk, not ram.
- Fn+F12 does nothing.
- In /etc/powersave/events, there appears to be only one event
  (EVENT_BUTTON_SLEEP) we can respond to.
  - Have they never heard of separate sleep and hibernate buttons?
  - Where are the events even documented? (nowhere!)
- In /etc/powersave/events, the possible actions appear to be
  suspend_to_disk and suspend_to_ram.
  - Have they never heard of the most useful hybrid (aka s2both) mode?
  - Is there any setting to use hybrid mode for suspend? (no, it goes
through HAL, and HAL offers no such configurability)
- Digging through powersave_manual.txt.gz reveals several instances of
the string "novell", which pretty much explains all of the above.

Bug#530820: The standard is scheduled to be rethought

2009-05-28 Thread Shachar Shemesh
I'm a permanent guest at the Standards Israeli Institute's sub-committee
for Hebrew in computerized systems. Very recently, someone asked to
reopen the Hebrew keyboard standard to address precisely these types of
deficiencies. The standard is up for rediscussion sometime this year.
Hopefully, the new standard will address all missing characters, as well
as resolve the horrid location in which diacritics are currently placed.

Bug#530996: gthumb: overwrite dialog should suggest new name

2009-05-28 Thread Jack T Mudge III
Subject: gthumb: overwrite dialog should suggest new name
Package: gthumb
Version: 3:2.10.11-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

*** Please type your report below this line ***
When moving images around, if you happen to have two files of the same name, an
overwrite dialog appears. One of the options is to rename the new file; the
text box presents the original file name and allows you to edit that.

I find it's more useful if the textbox instead presents you with a suggested
alternate name, the way Konqueror's overwrite dialog does, so that you can
just select that radio box and click OK, rather than having to type into the
box (and keep track of how many similarly-named images you're trying to move).

I've included a patch that adds this functionality. If you have "Picture.jpg",
the name "Picture_1.jpg" will be suggested. If that isn't available, then
"Picture_2.jpg" will be suggested, and so on.

Upstream is very wrong. I personally don't have the energy to educate
them though, especially since the gnote upstream tried and failed.
According to the lintian lab on gluck only gnote is using that part of
the ABI, so I guess your solution is OK, I worry about apps not in

Bug#516820: e2fsck won't fix a filesystem with a broken block bitmap

2009-05-28 Thread Theodore Tso

thanks

I found the problem; the following patch should fix things, and I have
this checked into the e2fsprogs SCM.

commit 606638906a0229323d1b2871fdb0d45ea0e7ff62
Author: Theodore Ts'o
Date: Thu May 28 23:40:18 2009 -0400

e2fsck: Go back to the original superblock if the backup sb is invalid

In the case where the block group descriptors appear corrupt, e2fsck
will try to use the backup superblock. However, it could be that the
backup superblock itself is completely corrupted, in which e2fsck
should go back to the original superblock instead of refusing to fix
the file system.

Bug#530927: [Fwd: still have problems, commenting out search line in /boot/grub/grub.cfg]

2009-05-28 Thread Arthur Marsh

 Original Message
Subject: still have problems, commenting out search line in
/boot/grub/grub.cfg

Date: Fri, 29 May 2009 10:01:19 +0930
From: Arthur Marsh
To: 530...@bugs.debian.org

Hi, with the 20090317 release of grub*, I can boot fine with a /boot
within the first 1024 cylinders (/dev/hda1), and / on higher cylinder
numbers (/dev/hda7).

With the 20090523 release of grub, I can boot fine if I remove the
search line from /boot/grub/grub.cfg, I can boot fine with /boot on the
first 1024 cylinders, and / on higher cylinder numbers.

With the 20090523 release of grub, if I run the set command at the grub
prompt, I get:

prefix = (hd0,7)/boot/grub

where it should be:

prefix = (hd0,1)/grub

Regards,

Arthur Marsh.

Bug#530967: Bring Architecture description in line with current dpkg-source

2009-05-28 Thread Russ Allbery
Package: debian-policy
Version: 3.8.1.0
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

Based on previous discussion, here are proposed changes to the description
of the Architecture field to bring it in line with recent changes to
dpkg-source and to try to make the whole section clearer.

This patch does not address the addition of architecture wildcards. I'd
like to take care of this first and then add that patch (and will have
some separate suggestions for it).

Bug#513881: reason for crash

2009-05-28 Thread Josh Metzler
I've been looking at konqueror-nsplugins, and I think I see why it is crashing
with gtk-qt-engine installed. Basically, nspluginviewer is a qt4 application
that loads plugins, including some that are gtk based (such as flashplugin-
nonfree). When such a gtk using plugin is loaded and gtk-qt-engine is in use,
both qt3 and qt4 are loaded. It is similar to the situation mentioned here:

http://labs.trolltech.com/forums/topic/414

Where Trolltech said it would not work with default builds of qt3 and qt4. So
I think the Conflicts is appropriate to add.

Margins currently are not screen-specific, so even if you have panels or

Notice that the port varies, for some reason.

What I think is relevant about my configuration is:
(on the exim4 server)
/etc/exim4/conf.d/main/01_exim4-config_listmacrosdefs-local:
CHECK_DATA_LOCAL_ACL_FILE = CONFDIR/conf.d/local/acl_check_data

/etc/exim4/conf.d/main/02_exim4-config_options-local:

/etc/exim4/conf.d/acl/40_exim4-config_check_data:
  .ifdef CHECK_DATA_LOCAL_ACL_FILE
  .include CHECK_DATA_LOCAL_ACL_FILE
  .endif

/etc/exim4/conf.d/local/acl_check_data:

message = This message was detected as possible malware ($malware_name).
  malware = */defer_ok

/etc/hosts:
172.20.2.91 ichi.iguanasuicide.net ichi

I looked at the package source, specifically malware.c and I didn't see
anything immediately wrong. I also didn't notice any Debian patches to the
file, so I suppose it could be an upstream issue, but I'm not sure.

Please, let me know if I can provide any assistance in resolving the bug.

No.

Make in fact sees the first prerequisite of your rule, and knows how
to rebuild it. Because these two prerequisites do not depend on each
other, when the build is run in parallel make is free to process them
together. And because make is smart enough to determine that your
.res file is an intermediate prerequisite whose own downstream
dependencies have not changed, it doesn't even attempt to rebuild it.

In fact some of make's own built-in rules are not parallel-safe...

Automake goes into great pain to circumvent such problems, and they
don't even use pattern rules because they're not portable.

Exactly.

> However if make decides to rebuild build-foo/lib.so for any reason,
> then doing so when there's no build-foo/rsrc.res file is a bug.

Right, that's why it succeeds the first time. BTW, this is perfectly
parallel-safe, I think:

build-%/lib.so: build-%/rsrc.res build-%/main.o
cat $^ >$@ || rm $@

build-%/rsrc.res: build-%/rsrc.rc
cat $< >$@ || rm $@

build-%/rsrc.rc: rsrc.rc.in
mkdir -p `dirname $...@`
cat $< >$@ || rm $@

build-%/main.o: main.c
mkdir -p `dirname $...@`
cat $< >$@ || rm $@

Here everything is treated like intermediary files, and because they
are always deleted, the commands are always run.

> Where do you see any dependency order issue in the makefile I
> posted?

I just suggested a workaround. A better one would be to use
.SECONDARY, as it's close to what you want in practice, I think: your
real sources are main.c and rsrc.rc.in.

> I think that not deleting the file if make is interrupted is wrong.
> .SECONDARY does not do this which is why I chose it as a better

Well, .PRECIOUS is useful in many situations, that's why it exists.
You are correct that sometimes it's not the right thing to use it.

Bug#530588: provide activity_show_targets

2009-05-28 Thread Ryan Niebur
tag 530588 wontfix
thanks

Martin, Christoph, can you two please resolve your changes to
chanact.pl with upstream so that I don't have to redo any more patches
for this? if the patches were easy to refresh, I wouldn't have any
problem, but last time I had to re implement the features Christoph
added, which was difficult for me since I have no clue what chanact
does (and I still don't), so it was difficult to understand the
code. And the changes I made weren't tested at all (which I *hate*,
but Christoph seemed to think it would be fine..), since Christoph is
using a local, more patched version than in the package, and I still
have no clue wtf this thing does. if you don't want to send your
changes to upstream (I don't know why you wouldn't, but..), then just
make a local fork in ~/.irssi/scripts/ and implement it there. I will
strongly object to any more patching of this script in the package,
and want the existing patches in the package to be applied upstream or
removed. I also think that in general new features shouldn't be
implemented as patches in Debian packages, unless you're damn sure
that upstream will never touch the code again, which is clearly not
the case here, because then you have the risk that either upstream
will implement it themselves in a different way and break
compatibility for existing users or upstream will reject the idea and
then you're stuck maintaining the patch forever. In this case, it
seems that both of you have implemented the same feature in different,
incompatible ways, and I don't have enough knowledge of this script
anyway, so I can't really forward these sets of changes to upstream
myself...so one (or both) of you will need to take action on
this. Christoph, can I just drop your existing patches to chanact in
the package? since you aren't even using it from the package anymore,
and I'm assuming you only implemented the changes for yourself, that
seems to make sense...

Bug#515072: faad2: new upstream version 2.7

I'm somewhat out of the running for the moment (missing key, missing
familiar sponsor, missing time, etc.), and I don't wish to stand in the
way (i.e., I'm willing for someone to update the package), but I'm not
quite sure I'm willing to give up on the package entirely, for the
moment.

I attach a patch my changes to hand to date.

Due to the urgency, I haven't been able to build on amd64 (I have
no 64bit hardware at home), and have reverted the Architecture change
for -doc to Arch: all. I couldn't figure out why that was changed,
and lintian didn't tell me anything helpful. Can you explain, Elimar?

We can add it back on the next upload.

Bug#530357: still have problems, commenting out search line in /boot/grub/grub.cfg

2009-05-28 Thread Arthur Marsh
Hi, with the 20090317 release of grub*, I can boot fine with a /boot
within the first 1024 cylinders (/dev/hda1), and / on higher cylinder
numbers (/dev/hda7).

With the 20090523 release of grub, I can boot fine if I remove the
search line from /boot/grub/grub.cfg, I can boot fine with /boot on the
first 1024 cylinders, and / on higher cylinder numbers.

With the 20090523 release of grub, if I run the set command at the grub
prompt, I get:

prefix = (hd0,7)/boot/grub

where it should be:

prefix = (hd0,1)/grub

Arthur Marsh.

Bug#530796: xine-lib: FTBFS on Hurd

2009-05-28 Thread Marc Dequènes (Duck)

Coin,

Quoting Darren Salt :

Coin,

?

I'm a duck, so i say Quack (or Coin in french) :-).

Agreed, but sending the full version upstream would be good.

As such kind of problems are... numerous, this is done as a
best-effort basis. If it was to add Hurd-specific features, i would
agree not to accept such kind of patches, but in this case the
software itself does not respect standards. Fortunately, its works
well on the mainstream GNU/Linux system, but this is not to say this
non-Hurd-specific bug has not to be solved. I hope either we get time
to provide a better patch, or the upstream authors would be alerted
and come back to us to work together on a fix. Until then, i hope this
blocker will nevertheless be unlocked.

- hurd_support patch: a very short Hurd-specific patch to correct use of an
include file not needed and not existing on Hurd

Seems fine (so long as it doesn't break things elsewhere).

The __GNU__ symbol is defined only on the GNU system, aka Hurd.

- dvb_optional patch: we cannot build with DVB support on Hurd, due to
missing and currently unimplementable ioctls, so this patch, along with the
'reautogen' patch add the necessary configure option to deactivate DVB
support on Hurd

No.

The option is acceptable, but the test must be "= yes" on (at least) Windows
& Hurd and "!= no" elsewhere. I will *not* accept DVB being disabled by
default when building xine-lib on systems where the plugin is buildable and
will work.

I don't understand. The --disable-dbv is only added to the configure
options on Hurd, and as it reads itself, it intends to disable support
"on demand", while obviouly the original default to yes is kept.
Perhaps you mean the AM_CONDITIONAL test is badly done, in this case
please help me fix it, as i don't see what's wrong.

A patch series against http://hg.debian.org/hg/xine-lib/pkg/xine-lib-deb
would be much preferred since it can easily be applied upstream ("hg
transplant", mostly), though debian/rules might be a bit tricky.

(An "hg bundle"-generated file is fine for this.)

Arf. I guess this patch would go to trash if i don't do so, but i'm
not so happy having to learn every VCS in the world because a simple
unified patch is not trendy enough nowadays.

Regards.

Rebuilding now under newer libquantlib. That should do it.

Thanks again, Dirk

the patch was made with the experimental version. It also seems to apply

Thanks for the bug report.
Unfortunately I won't have time to update it until maybe one week from now.

A patch is available at
http://people.debian.org/~naoliv/misc/imagemagick/SA35216.diff
This is the fix applied upstream (and upstream confirmed that this is
all the necessary things that need to be patched to fix the issue).

I would be very grateful if somebody could do a NMU for this fix,
while I don't have time for it (CCed security team).

Thank you very much!

Best regards,
Nelson

Bug#530958: clive downloads files from past requests

2009-05-28 Thread David Liontooth
Package: clive
Version: 2.1.13-2
Severity: normal

If you first download a file using the -rf mp4 option, and then download a
second file using the same option, clive tries to download the previous file
all over again:

# clive -rf mp4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqP8gNbtMyI&feature=channel_page

If you rename the files you downloaded first, clive will download the files all

Bug#530323: virtualbox.org packages should add "Provides: virtualbox-source"

Sorry for not having checked this.

I've assumed that the virtualbox-ose-source package would have the same
layout, but this has probably been changed in Ubuntu when moving to DKMS.

>> I could reproduce this as follows:
>> 1. Remove virtualbox-ose-source

>> (which leads to the problem)
>
> Sounds like a problem with the upstream package, huh?

Yes, and I've assumed that Debian might have the same problem.

I've filed a bug at virtualbox.org, proposing that they add a "Provides:
virtualbox-source", which would solve that problem (as far as I can see).

Another option I've tried has been to let virtualbox-ose-source conflict
with the upstream package names (virtualbox, virtualbox-2.0,
virtualbox-2.1, virtualbox-2.2), but this was a too quick/dumb shot,
since we (in Ubuntu) use those names in "Provides" for virtualbox-ose
itself.
(Felix reintroduced this changed (added some time ago by myself, but
then removed again) in his last merge from Debian; I'm not sure if it
makes any sense?!).

So, after all this does not appear to affect the package in Debian.
If the following works for you, all is fine at your side:

0. remove any virtualbox* packages
1. Install virtualbox-2.2, this will install a symlink:
/usr/src/vboxdrv-2.2.2 -> ../share/virtualbox/src/vboxdrv
2. Install virtualbox-ose-source
3. Remove virtualbox-2.2, e.g. by installing virtualbox-ose
4. Make sure that all files from virtualbox-ose-source are still
installed, and e.g. manually building the kernel module works

Bug#530321: virtualbox-ose: Drop /etc/vbox/vbox.cfg

2009-05-28 Thread Daniel Hahler
Yes, Felix is right about the testcase.

After all, you would have to purge virtualbox-ose and then install it
again to fix this (thinking as a user).

And yes, I've forgotten to adjust the following files:
./virtualbox-ose.install
./patches/09-initscript.dpatch

..and the submittodebian script apparently does not handle removed files
(probably).

Bug#530956: ufw: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates review

2009-05-28 Thread Jonathan Wiltshire
Package: ufw
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Tuesday, May 19, 2009, I notified you of the beginning of a review process
concerning debconf templates for ufw.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading ufw with these changes right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Monday, June 01, 2009, when I
will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
Saturday, June 13, 2009. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

On Sunday, June 14, 2009, I will contact you again and will send a final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Bug#530954: ia32-libs-gtk: Package name and description is misleading regarding Qt

2009-05-28 Thread Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer
Package: ia32-libs-gtk
Version: 2.7
Severity: wishlist

First of all, I really like the functionality of the package :-)

The problem with the package in regard to Qt is that it doesn't mention that it
provides Qt neither in the name (which results very misleading) or in the
package description.

I suggest you change the name of the package (but that means going trough the
NEW queue) or
create a ia32-libs-qt package. I guess I can wait that it goes trough the queue.

Sincerely, from a users' POV, it would me much bette rif they are two separate
packages.

Thank you very much for your work :-)

I fail to see why you can't just write a script, calling
that from cron and let the script properly evaluate the
return value. I also see no problem with returning 0 in this
case though but I might miss any setups in which this would
be a problem. Matthias, what is your opinion on this?

Bug#530953: New version available: tsclient

2009-05-28 Thread Craig Andrews
Package: tsclient
Severity: wishlist

There is a new version of tsclient (2.0.1) available from
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=192483

Fedora is using this version, so bumping to it is not unprecedented.

Thanks!

Bug#530952: [python-clamav] Python 2.6 migration, missing --install-layout=deb

2009-05-28 Thread Julien Lavergne
Package: python-clamav
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

The --install-layout=deb flag is missing for setup.py. It's not a
problem for the actual Debian unstable, but the package will FTBFS when
the new python installation policy will be in place for squeeze [1].
It's also harmless to add it now (the package build fine with it).
It also cause a FTBFS on Ubuntu, and it generate a useless delta between
the 2 distribution.
Please consider adding this flag to debian/rules.

Thanks.

Julien Lavergne

Bug#530948: [pigment-python] Python migration, *-packages instead of site-packages

Hi,

Following the future changes for python in Debian [1], the location of
some files for python packages will change from site-packages to
dist-packages. To anticipate this change (already in place for Ubuntu),
could you please consider replacing site-packages occurrence in
python-pgm.install by *-packages to make the installation in both case
(before and after the migration) possible ?

Thanks.

Bug#530949: gcc-4.4: warns about idiomatic use of Berkeley sockets

2009-05-28 Thread brian m. carlson
Package: gcc-4.4
Version: 4.4.0-5
Severity: wishlist

With the attached C file, gcc-4.4 warns:

  lakeview ok % gcc-4.4 -O2 -Wall socket.c
  socket.c: In function ‘main’:
socket.c:20: warning: dereferencing pointer ‘sin’ does break strict-aliasing
rules
socket.c:21: warning: dereferencing pointer ‘sin’ does break strict-aliasing
rules
socket.c:19: warning: dereferencing pointer ‘sin’ does break strict-aliasing
rules
  socket.c:12: note: initialized from here
socket.c:23: warning: dereferencing pointer ‘sa’ does break strict-aliasing
rules
  socket.c:11: note: initialized from here

This is a standard and idiomatic usage of Berkeley sockets. AFAIK,
there is no other way to work with the sockets interface, and even if
there were, this method is extremely common, not to mention sanctioned
by POSIX.

gcc-4.4 should not warn with -Wall, which is supposed to be a sane
default with useful warnings. I don't mind if gcc-4.4 warns with some
esoteric option, but warning about sockets-using code with -O2 -Wall is
silly.

It doesn't rely on it - it calls it if it can, but ignores errors,
precisely so that it doesn't fail if delgroup is absent. I suppose I'll
make it check whether delgroup is present before doing this, though.

Package: reportbug-ng

Severity: minor

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hi!

When reporting bugs, for some packages (for instance, openoffice.org)
reportbug-ng shows a window which contains package specific information
about bug reporting. The text for openoffice.org is quite long, so the
window gets bigger than the screen: I can't read the whole text and
can't reach the OK button (I suppose there is one, as I didn't manage to
move the window in order to check it).

Maybe the text should be displayed in a box with panning bars.

I am running an MSI Wind Netbook with Intel 950 VGA.

After blanking screen (due to closing lid, locking screen, hibernate oder
suspend) the screen does not resume but stay
black. When moving the mouse it flickers. Keyboard remains responsive.

dmesg shows:

[drm:i915_get_vblank_counter] *ERROR* trying to get vblank count for disabled
pipe 0

gdm works fine after getting restarted.

The problem occurs with 2.6.29 as well as with 2.6.26.

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/linux/kernel/1035744 seems related, but
nomodeset did not help.

Bug#505711: FTBFS with GCC 4.4: missing #include

2009-05-28 Thread Vincent Favre-Nicolin
Hi,

Thanks for the bug report - I have indeed been working on fixing the gcc 4.4
compilation issues (using gcc-snapshot from ubuntu jaunty) - I have a new
beta version of Fox which includes an updated cctbx version. It also fixes the
error in Fox.cpp (strange error, I just rewrote tye same thing in two lines...).

The new beta is #1158 @:
https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=27546&package_id=162603

Incidentally, Fox will now honour CXX and CC (and LDFLAGS). I compiled with:
CC=/usr/lib/gcc-snapshot/bin/gcc CXX=/usr/lib/gcc-snapshot/bin/gcc make
unicode=1 shared=1 -j5

Also note that the library organization has changed - boost (more precisely,
the
subset of boost that Fox requires) is now inside the
cctbx.tar.bz2 file, since boost is tied to cctbx...

I didn't know what exactly the file does nor how it is used, but:
a) it is a file in /usr/lib which means it is very likely that it is executed
by another program of the package, and might result in weird errors and not
easy to detect by the user
b) using $[] is even deprecated in bash, and its usage on shells that don't
understand it results in that expression being used as any other string,
which may cause weird errors
c) it is humanly impossible to verify the usage and pourpose of every affected
file of every affected package (of the ~660 with some sort of bashism) within
a reasonably short period of time.
d) and it is easier and faster to fix it than to reply to the bug report :)

Cheers,

Hello,

the bug you reported is a KDE bug. Please report it via
Help -> Report bug... menu item of the respective application
or by visiting https://bugs.kde.org/ and following instructions
to report a new bug.

Debian Qt/KDE maintainers do not have resources to deal with
non Debian-specific bugs and therefore it is unlikely that
your bug will be solved if you do not report it to KDE developers
directly (unless it is/has been reported by somebody else).

Whenever you open a bug report on the KDE bug tracking system, or
you find that the bug has been already reported on it, you can couple
both this Debian bug and the KDE bug together by sending the mail with

Bug#530855: make -j2 fails to rebuild intermediate file

I take this to mean that the lack of file B does not mean that targets
that depend on it must be rebuilt. Instead make follows the trail until
it finds B's prerequisites takes their timestamps into account instead
of B's timestamp.

However I do not take the above as meaning that targets that depend on B
can be rebuilt without rebuilding B.

Here's the example they give in the previous paragraph:

,
| Sometimes a file can be made by a sequence of implicit rules. For
| example, a file `N.o' could be made from `N.y' by running first Yacc
| and then `cc'. Such a sequence is called a "chain".
| ...
|
| However, even if `N.c' does not exist and is not mentioned, `make'
| knows how to envision it as the missing link between `N.o' and `N.y'!
| In this case, `N.c' is called an "intermediate file". Once `make' has
| decided to use the intermediate file, it is entered in the data base
| as if it had been mentioned in the makefile, along with the implicit
| rule that says how to create it.
`

So here N.o depends on N.c which depends on N.y, all through implicit
rules. If make where to try to rebuild N.o without first creating an N.c
file then it would be a bug.

But let's say we have something like this:

%.o: %.c foo.h
some command

Now N.o would still depend on N.c and ultimately on N.y, but it would
also depend on foo.h. And you're telling me that because of this extra
dependency, make would be right to try to rebuild N.o without first
creating N.c?

This would in effect mean that N.o depends on N.c *or* foo.h.

I don't see how this could be considered anything but a bug.

So applied to the makefile I posted it means that there is no reason to
rebuild build-foo/lib.so just because there is no build-foo/rsrc.res
file. Following the implicit dependencies make sees that
build-foo/lib.so only needs to be rebuilt if rsrc.rc.in or main.c are
newer.

However if make decides to rebuild build-foo/lib.so for any reason, then
doing so when there's no build-foo/rsrc.res file is a bug.

> chained rules is a luxury,

Hmm, not sure where you're going with that but...

> so you'd have to take the necessary steps to convince make about the
> order of dependencies.

STOP STOP STOP

Where does this 'order of dependencies' come from? Where do you see any
dependency order issue in the makefile I posted?

Where, in the makefile I posted, do you see any dependency, explicit or
implicit in the build commands, between rsrc.res/rsrc.rc.in/rsrc.rc and
main.o/main.c?

,
| .PRECIOUS
| The targets which .PRECIOUS depends on are given the following special
| treatment: if make is killed or interrupted during the execution of
| their commands, the target is not deleted. See Interrupting or Killing
| make. Also, if the target is an intermediate file, it will not be
| deleted after it is no longer needed, as is normally done. See Chains
| of Implicit Rules. In this latter respect it overlaps with the
| .SECONDARY special target.
`

I think that not deleting the file if make is interrupted is wrong.
.SECONDARY does not do this which is why I chose it as a better
workaround.

Bug#530939: mcs: easy fix for FTBFS on Hurd

2009-05-28 Thread Marc Dequènes (Duck)

Package: mcs
Version: 0.7.1-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: debian-h...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: hurd

Coin,

Please consider applying this patch to your next upload and help push
this fix upstream. Using PATH_MAX unconditionally is an important
POSIX incompatibility. On Hurd PATH_MAX is not needed and not defined,
thus the FTBFS. This fix works around this problem, even if relying on
dynamic allocation when it is undefined would be a better solution
(but the patch would be harder and more intrusive).

Regards.

Hi,

/usr/share/doc/docbook-xsl/README.gz refers to
http://wiki.docbook.org/topic/ManPages which does not exist. Maybe the
page has moved somewhere? I didn’t find it imediatelly, though.

Greetings,

Bug#530943: [openoffice.org] oowriter shows an error dialog and doesn't start

2009-05-28 Thread Giovanni Mascellani
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1:3.1.0-4
Severity: important

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Just after having upgraded openoffice.org to 1:3.1.0-4, I can't run it
anymore. More specifically, if I call it (both from shell or from menu,
using "soffice" or "oowriter" or "oo") it shows the blue
splash screen, but then, instead of loading the main window, shows a
dialog with written in it:

The application cannot be started.
The user interface language cannot be determined.

The only available choice is "OK", which causes openoffice to be closed.

I'm setting severity to important, because right now I can't use it.

Thanks, Giovanni.

Bug#530874: Acknowledgement (ia32-libs: Broken libasound, crashes upon init)

reassign 530874 lib32asound2 1.0.20-1

thanks

I thought libasound was still provided by ia32-libs, but as it happens
it's not the case, so reassigning to where it belongs.

Some more details as the issue won't be fixed as easily as I first
thought it would :)

I'm seeing a segfault in libasound when initializing the SDL sound
output. This happens with a 32bit build of zsnes on amd64.

Using a libasound copied from an i386 system works fine.

JB.

Bug#528661: elinks eternally stuck in SSL negotiation phase

2009-05-28 Thread Simon Josefsson
The problem is a buggy server, see the upstream bug about this [1], so I
don't see anything that can/should be changed in GnuTLS.

Rather than closing this bug, we could re-assign the problem back to
elinks as a wishlist bug to provide better error handling in this
situation.

A naive solution would be to disable TLS1.1 in elinks. Here is a patch
against elinks to accomplish that.

I'd say no, because the variable is used because of some reason.

Where did you find those? I'm interested so that I can improve the scanner.

It depends on the usage of pushd/popd; if they are used with no parameters it
is usually the simplest way to avoid them, yes.

So after a bit of discussion, it seems that the right method is not to
open up relaying. As sort of documented in bts(1), you shouldn't be
using reportbug.debian.org:587 for messages going to places that
aren't bugs.debian.org. The existance of reportbug.debian.org:587 is
entirely for cases where someone is unable to properly configure
/usr/lib/sendmail or doesn't know what their upstream smarthost is for
reporting bugs; anything outside of that requires a real functional
MTA.

Bug#530820: #530820: xkb-data: Please add il variant to replace underscore with hebrew hyphen

2009-05-28 Thread Shai Berger
>The hyphen is already part of the 'lyx' variant.

True, but that variant also makes numerous other changes, such as removing the
uppercase latin letters from shifted letters.

>I don't think any separate character should have its own group.

I share the sentiment, and would prefer it if the basic layout were changed to
behave like my proposed "katef" variant. However, making that change to an
established layout seems much worse than introducing a variant.

>
>There are symbols missing, indeed.

Besides the hyphen, I can come up with the traditional quotation marks (U+201E
and U+201C) and geresh/gershayim (U+05F3 and U+05F4). I don't see obvious
places for the quotations, though; and I'm not sure replacing the single and
double quotation marks with the geresh and gershayim is an improvement.

Anyway, if your point will be satisfied by renaming the variant from "katef"
to, say, "traditional" so that it makes more sense to include other symbols in
it, I have no objection whatsoever. All I really want is a variant that
behaves like basic, except that it has the maqaf-katef accessible (on second
thought, the quotations are a nice-to-have, too; instead of braces?).

>But I'm not sure that this is the right place to add them.

Isn't that exactly what layout variants are for? What other places do you
contemplate?

Agreed, but sending the full version upstream would be good.

Seems fine (so long as it doesn't break things elsewhere).

No.

The option is acceptable, but the test must be "= yes" on (at least) Windows
& Hurd and "!= no" elsewhere. I will *not* accept DVB being disabled by
default when building xine-lib on systems where the plugin is buildable and
will work.
