Bug#535250: Please build with libcoin60-dev

2009-06-30 Thread Steve M. Robbins
Package: libopenscenegraph56
Version: 2.8.1-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

Please consider changing the build-deps to libcoin60-dev (coin 3.x)
rather than libcoin40-dev (coin 2.x). I've tried locally and
openscenegraph builds with coin 3.

I'd like to request removal of coin 2.x from the archive.

Thanks,
-Steve (coin maintainer)

As far as I know, it does behave as documented. The rescanning of
the interface is to pick up new IP addresses of the interfaces.
It will not try to resolve the names of the ntp servers/peers
again.

Bug#535249: linux-image-2.6.26-2-amd64: fails to work when hda is rerouted to hde

2009-06-30 Thread Micronius
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-2-amd64
Version: 2.6.26-15lenny2
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: renders package unusable

My desktop owns 1 IDE-controller on the motherboard and 2
PCI-RAID-IDE-controller
(without using the RAID-facility) on a PCI-card. My fstab contains the
following
lines:

# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
#
proc/proc proc defaults0 0
LABEL=wg-rootpart   /   reiserfs defaults0   1
LABEL=wg-bootpart   /boot   reiserfs notail  0   2
LABEL=wg-swappart   noneswap sw  0   0
/dev/hdb/media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0
/dev/fd0/media/floppy0 auto rw,user,noauto 0 0

My /boot/grub/menu.lst contains the following lines:

title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.26-2-amd64
password ..
root(hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.26-2-amd64
root=UUID=8e1b2e49-3dfb-4942-8eb6-9868733c5d15 ro splash=verbose
initrd /initrd.img-2.6.26-2-amd64

When I use

apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade

this does not work for upgrading the kernel. The following messages appear:

"

Booting the kernel

Loading, please wait ...

mount: mounting /dev on /root/dev failed:
   no such file or directory

[the same concerning /sys and /proc]

Target filesystem doesn't have /sbin/init.
No init found.

"
Then the system halts and does not work further.

Bug#535248: padre: Please drop unnecessary build dependency on locales-all

2009-06-30 Thread Fabrice Coutadeur
Package: padre
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

The package builds fine without locales-all, and as Ubuntu does not have
locales-all, it would be great if you could drop this unnecessary build
dependency.

Thnaks,
Fabrice

Bug#535247: gnome-panel: shutdown button exhibits erratic behaviour

2009-06-30 Thread Norbert Preining
Package: gnome-panel
Version: 2.26.2-1
Severity: normal

Pressing the shutdown button and selection "Shutdown" currently exhibits
a very erratic behaviour: Either it shuts down the computer, or it just
logs me out and goes back to the gdm welcome screen.

I am checking that now since weeks, and I couldn't find any pattern
in they way it behaves. The only idea (but without being able to
actually check that) was that if I su-ed a few times the shutdown
was only a logout.

All the best

Norbert

Sure, as discussed, as long as this is only temporary until we provide
a better interface, it seems wasted effort having to rewrite it twice.

Since the config.{guess,sub}.upstream file tests use "[ ! -f $file] && ...",
the command returns an non-success error code if the files do already exist,
causing make to exit. Changing the condition to "[ -f $file] || ...", similar
to the preceeding checks, fixes the issue.

Subject: [PATCH] Correct config.* tests so sequential "debian/rules build"
invocations succeed

Since the config.{guess,sub}.upstream file tests use "[ ! -f $file] && ...",
the command returns an non-success error code if the files do already exist,
causing make to exit. Changing the condition to "[ -f $file] || ...", similar
to the preceeding checks, fixes the issue.

Bug#535243: kfreebsd-kernel-headers: Wrong type in ?

2009-06-30 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Package: kfreebsd-kernel-headers
Version: 0.34
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Heya,

while working on hal on kfreebsd-i386, I've stumbled upon the following:
./hald/freebsd/hf-pci.c includes , but the latter uses
uint64_t for the pci_bar_io structure, instead of u_intNN_t for other
structures, and the compiler fails on that token.

Maybe a -D (I tried __USE_BSD) or another include is missing? Or one
could just use the attached patch (I copied the path from the
000_bruno_haible.diff patch, I didn't install the whole sources)?

I can't reproduce this. Can you give me more information? Do you realize
that /var/log/pppstatus/ is only used when pppstatus is run by root and
that ~/.pppstatus/ is a directory where the log is written for non-root
users?

Sorry Petr, forgot to thank you in the changelog entry. Anyway, I've
written up some justification for people who might be wondering why that
is needed (I had to have a look, it wasn't all crystal-clear to me,
that's why I postponed a bit replying to this bug). Of course, that
might have been quicker if Matthias replied, since he is responsible for
the blt-dev change…

No NACK, I'm therefore uploading a package to DELAYED/1, see attached
debdiff. Thanks for prodding, Philipp.

As shown below, it seems that /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/99video freezes.

Ok, I see, the in-email-encoding of the headers is always translated to
utf8.

I will dig through the source and check what I can do, and report an
issue with the tracker.

Best wishes

Indeed, the fix is rather trivial, see attached debdiff.

Given the amount of time with no answer, fixed package uploaded to
DELAYED/2.

Bug#535239: grub-pc: Never asks debconf question about cmdline, doesn't take old values from menu.lst

2009-06-30 Thread Michael Stapelberg
Package: grub-pc

questions about my linux command line. Also, grub-pc failed to copy over
the rootfstype=ext4 parameter from /boot/grub/menu.lst which would have
prevented my system from booting (thus filing it as important).

Bug#486603: [PATCH] Use XCheckIfEvent() instead of select() in xscreensaver_command_response

2009-06-30 Thread James Vega
When using select() to poll for the XChangeProperty event that
clientmessage_response() generates, there is a race condition where the
select() may start after clientmessage_response() has already called
XChangeProperty(). In this case, the event is already on the X event queue,
so select() never sees a change on the fd being watched. This causes
xscreensaver-command to report that it didn't receive a response.

In place of using select(), XCheckIfEvent() is called using the new
is_xscreensaver_command_event predicate to see if the event we're waiting for
is already in the X event queue. If it isn't, we emulate the same timeout as
before by sleep()ing one second for a maximum of 10 XCheckIfEvent() calls.

In testing both the original xscreensaver-command and the patched version
using the following loop, every call to the patched version returned
successfully. The original version reported "no response to command" in 21 of
the 30 calls even though the xscreensaver daemon saw the command every time.

for i in $(seq 30); do xscreensaver-command -deactivate; done

Bug#535238: [usbmount] Partitions of USB-disk mounted to same mountpoint

2009-06-30 Thread Hans-Georg Bork
Package: usbmount
Version: 0.0.17
Severity: serious

Hi there,

I didn't use my USB-disk for two or three months now, but I know that I
never had any trouble ... in the meantime usbmount 0.0.17 came out and I
believe there is where the trouble starts. Unfortunately usbmount 0.0.16
isn't available anymore in debian repositories, so I cannot doublecheck
if it works with that.

My USB-disk (not flash) has two partitions: 1. vfat 2. ext3. Both
partitions are recognized and have no errors. When the disk is
connected, it is recognized and usbmount mounts them with correct FS
types, but both partitions on the exact same location (/media/usb0):

It seems that usbmount is in a race when checking the available
mountpoint and find it both times available ... it's just a matter of
luck which partition is mounted first. This might lead to data loss,
since a standard user might not recognize that there is such problem.

PS: It might be possible that the bug lies within udev which starts
usbmount simultaneous. If this is true, please forward to them.

Bug#535237: binutils: Please enable --build-id in ld by default

2009-06-30 Thread Emilio Pozuelo Monfort
Package: binutils
Version: 2.19.1-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I would appreciate it if the --build-id option for the linker
was enabled by default (with the sha1 hash if possible).

I'm working on the debug packages infrastructure and would like to
take advantage of the .build-id section to ship debugging symbols
from a webdav mount that people can use to automatically have
symbols for all their packages.

Thanks,
Emilio

As previously said, this is from cryptsetup. All I can, and now will,
do is to discard stdout output from these programs.

Maybe this would be a nice feature for insserv, if it shipped a small helper
tool that allows exactly that:
mighty_tool start|stop|restart
will start, stop, restart all services that depend on and are currently
running, in the correct order. wishlist bug?

And as additional information: The function dependend_services() in the dbus
init script immediately exits during boot/shutdown. So this statment is not
correct either.

Bug#535236: xserver-xorg: incorrect keycodes sent after upgrade to unstable

2009-06-30 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.4+3
Severity: important

After the upgrade of several packages to unstable, X now sends
incorrect keycodes, more precisely it seems to send keycodes
that correspond to /usr/share/X11/xkb/keycodes/evdev instead
of the usual /usr/share/X11/xkb/keycodes/xfree86, so that the
keyboard is hardly usable[*]. Since such a change has not been
announced in any NEWS file, I assume that it is not done on
purpose and is a bug.

[*] maybe due to my xmodmaprc.

Hmm you're not using the x11 video output module but SDL one.

Still strange that the same problem happen. Can you try to force x11 or
xvideo

-V x11 or -V xvideo

reassgin 529753 insserv
thanks

dbus does not call invoke-rc.d during startup or shutdown, so bouncing back the
bug report to insserv.

As kel wrote, it might be a ifupdown.d hook that is calling invoke-rc.d, please
check the files in /etc/network (grep -r invoke-rc.d /etc/network).

And regarding the "ugliness" of the dbus script:
> (By the way I find this /etc/init.d/dbus script ugly: It does on every
> start/shutdown what insserv alone should do for dependency sake)

This statement is simply not true (as I already explained to you).
insserv is for automatically calculation your init script priorities based on
the lsb header information, nothing more. As such it is not truly a dynamic,
dependency based init system, which allows to e.g. restart a service + all its
dependend services.

Cheers,
Michael

One thing I noticed today: this is per mount, not per session. IOW, I
now have two entries, and the prompt is displayed twice.

Description : Perl module that provides simple filename and
pathname matching
File::FnMatch::fnmatch() provides simple, shell-like pattern matching.
 .
Though considerably less powerful than regular expressions, shell patterns
are nonetheless useful and familiar to a large audience of end-users.

Bug#463807: RFH: wxwidgets2.8 -- help for wxwidgets2.8 is appreciated

2009-06-30 Thread Ryan Niebur
I will help with this, in hopes that a new version will be more stable
and fix the libwx-perl FTBFS bugs. Padre upstream strongly recommends
(by not allowing installation with older versions, unless we patch the
build system, which is what we did) the next version of wxwidgets
after what we have, because the version we have is "buggy".

Despite my only exposure to wxwidgets being through the Perl bindings,
and only using them since last week, I will be willing to work on this
package in the long term to keep it in shape for Padre.

I can probably help with RC bug fixing, upgrading to new upstream
versions, reviewing and applying patches, fixing trivial bugs,
forwarding/triaging bugs, and keeping the packaging in good shape, but
probably won't be very helpful for anything that requires a lot of
knowledge of wxwidgets, C++, or Python, since I don't know these.

Adeodato, may I start working and commit to the Git repository?

Bug#529753: insserv: at shutdown critics about invoke-rc.d stop

2009-06-30 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
reassign 529753 dbus
subject 529753 warning during shutdown because of invoke-rc.d call
thanks

As far as I can see, this is an issue with dbus or invoke-rc.d, not
with insserv. Reassigning to dbus as invoke-rc.d should really not be
used during shutdown as it is currently implemented.

Happy hacking,

Bug#535232: zsh: segfaults while trying to free in hend

2009-06-30 Thread Alec Berryman
Package: zsh
Version: 4.3.10-2
Severity: important

Recently (one or two weeks, probably when I upgraded to the current version of
zsh), I've been seeing intermittent segfaults - I'll run a command like less or
cd and my terminal will die on me. I've never seen it happen in a long-running
shell; if it makes it through the first few commands, everything works.

I got the attached backtrace.

Bug#535231: plasma eats up the whole cpu

2009-06-30 Thread Patrick Winnertz
Package: kdebase-workspace-bin
Version: 4:4.2.4-1+b1
Severity: grave
File: /usr/bin/plasma

since several days I've huge problems concerning plasma. From time to time to
time
it eats up both cpus on my dualcore. Please note that I used nowhere the
calendar
plugin, which is known to create a similiar bug. to be honest I have a blank
screensaver and no plasmoid in my workspace except the basic stuff (nm, power,
clock,
device handler, login/logout, kde menu). That's all.

the only option here is to do a killall -9 plasma, wait 5 minutes and restart
it.

As this renders the whole desktop unusable this is a RC.

Greetings
Winnie

Heya,

I'm getting the following on a sid kfreebsd-i386 (although it's not

Could you please drop the '\'? Folding (with a leading space) is the
(RFC2822) way to go here. Patch attached.

That is spotted since dpkg-dev 1.15.3, see commit
fe930e9bb3e195825cce98e4abe825459a7e81e7 in dpkg.git

I'm not sure it will happen on the kfreebsd-* buildds once #535225 is
fixed, but in that case, I'd like mpi-defaults to be fixed ASAP. If you
want, I can keep you posted about the libopenmpi-dev fix, let you know
if this bug is a blocker for us (for boost, schroot, sbuild…) and upload
an NMU if you like.

2009-06-30 Thread Derek B. Noonburg
You can get something close to this by binding a mouse button (or key
press), something like this:

bind ctrl-mouseRelease1 overLink "run(echo %u)"

If there's a command that will copy text to the clipboard (I'm not sure
if there is, but it seems like there ought to be), you could use that in
place of "echo".

I'll look into adding a right-button-menu option for this.

Bug#535227: cron: still bad package description

2009-06-30 Thread Justin B Rye
Package: cron
Version: 3.0pl1-106
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

Last June I submitted bug #485452, which pointed out an error and
some stylistic problems in cron's package description. The fix did
not apply my suggested patch directly; it dealt with the factual
error, but turned some portions of the text into word salad.

# Package: cron
# Description: process scheduling daemon
# The cron daemon is a background process that runs particular programs at
# particular times (for example, every minute, day, week or month), as
# specific in the in a crontab. By default, users may also create
# crontabs of their own so that processes are run on their behalf.

The line "as specific in the in a crontab" needs corrective surgery.

# Users may also install crontabs so that processes are run on
# their behalf, though this feature can be disabled or restricted to
# particular users.

This paragraph is redundant. If you insist on keeping it, throw out
the last sentence of the previous paragraph.

# Output from the commands is usually mailed to the system administrator
# (or to the user in question); you should probably install a mail system
# as well so that you can receive these messages.
# .
# This cron package is configured by default to do some basic daily system
# maintenance tasks, such as ensuring creating copying key system files.
# Additional maintenance tasks are available on external packages, such as
# 'checksecurity'

The line "such as ensuring creating copying key system files" is
severely garbled. The last sentence needs work too: tasks aren't
"on" packages, and what are "external" packages, anyway?

# The lockfile-progs package is recommended as it will prevent
# /etc/cron.daily/standard from running multiple
# times if something gets jammed.

(This is looking rather ridiculous now that there's a perfectly good
file-locking tool in Stable's Essential coreutils, but that's a
separate issue.)

I suggest... no, come to think of it this time I even _recommend_
that you adopt the attached patch.

2009-06-30 Thread chaica
tags 435818 patch
thanks

Hi,

Here is a patch to use gnupg-agent to store the passphrase in order to
only enter once your passphrase during a session.

- it checks if the GPG_AGENT_INFO variable is defined.
- if so, it means gpg-agent is or was running, so we can try to use it.
- if gpg-agent is not running, gpg will ask the passphrase as usual.
- If gpg-agent is running, it will ask the passphrase the first time
with pinentry. Next time you use reportbug in the same session the
passphrase won't be asked.

Bye,

Bug#535226: ifupdown: no possiblity to configure an autoconf-only IPv6 interface

2009-06-30 Thread Michael Stapelberg
Package: ifupdown
Version: 0.6.8+nmu1
Severity: normal

The only options for IPv6 configurations are loopback, static, manual and
v4tunnel. However, one may want to use an interface only for IPv6 with
autoconf. This is very simple, as you just have to put the interface up.
Therefore, the workaround looks like this:

interface eth0 inet6 manual
post-up ifconfig eth0 up
post-down ifconfig eth0 down

Please implement an option like 'interface eth0 inet6 autoconf'.

Hi,

thanks for the tweak in Build-Depends for libibverbs on non-Linux archs,
but that's not sufficient, there's the Depends line of libopenmpi-dev
that needs tweaking too. Please find attached a patch that implements
what would be needed.

It would be really great if you could fix that ASAP, so that we can give
boost a try, which we need for schroot and finally sbuild. Since we're
bootstrapping kfreebsd-*, having fast answers would really help. I can
take care of an NMU if you like.

(Having sbuild would help people handle their build environments and
build attempts very easily, that's why I tracked that down ASAP and
initially filed #535202.)

Oh, and I checked the .la files on kfreebsd-i386, there's no mention of
libibverbs there, which I first thought we might have to strip; it looks
like the build system does its job properly, which is a nice surprise.
:)

Umm, only just noticed (sorry about this) but the patch you included in
the bug report is already included in gpe-calendar 0.92, the current
version in Debian unstable and testing.

I actually uploaded 0.92-1 the same day that the bug was reported.

I've been unable to reproduce the bug in 0.92-1.

Please re-try with 0.92-1 (or 0.92-2 which is pending an upload soon)

If I don't hear from you, I'll close this bug as already fixed.

Bug#525938: Element Hiding Helper is a different story

2009-06-30 Thread Wladimir Palant
The fact that it "works" with Element Hiding Helper is an entirely
different story. In Firefox 2.0 the element hiding rules are only
applied after the page is reloaded so Element Hiding Helper injects a
stylesheet into the already open page - it is basically hiding
"manually". This functionality is no longer required with Firefox 3 and
will be removed soon. It doesn't change the fact that the real element
hiding mechanism isn't functional in Iceweasel for some reason.

Bug#535224: ITP: libnetdude -- framework to netdude program

2009-06-30 Thread Joao Eriberto Mota Filho
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Joao Eriberto Mota Filho

* Package name: libnetdude
  Version : 0.11
  Upstream Author : Christian Kreibich
* URL : http://netdude.sourceforge.net
* License : specific
Description : framework to netdude program

libnetdude is the base of the netdude program. It is the core of the framework
and the place where the packet manipulations are performed. It allows you to
implement trace file manipulations at a much higher level of abstraction than
code written directly on top of the pcap library. It also provides a
command-line interface that directly lets you script all packet-mangling
capabilities provided by the set of plugins you have installed. Libnetdude's
 features include:

 * Convenient abstractions for trace files, trace parts & areas, packets,
   filters, and packet iterators.
 * Ability to edit arbitrarily large traces (subject to the large-file size
limit on your OS). Traces are navigated using timestamps and fractional
   offsets.
 * Ability to insert and delete packets.
 * Flexible plugin architecture: Protocol plugins allow interpretation of
arbitrary protocol data. Feature plugins provide helpful building blocks
(like anonymizers, statistical analyzers, demultiplexers, etc.) in a reusable
   fashion.
 * Structured packet data. Raw packet data is interpreted as much as the
installed protocol plugins permit it to. No need to write your own protocol
   analyzer any more.
 * Familiar tcpdump output: libnetdude can associate a tcpdump process with each
trace file, providing tcpdump's familiar output for individual packets. The
GUI application is making extensive use of this.

I'm talking about Subject and From headers. This is a sample From
header using utf8:

From: Michal =?UTF-8?B?xIxpaGHFmQ==?=

And this is a sample Subject header using iso8859-1

Subject: ubuntu =?ISO-8859-1?B?dmVyaORsdA==?= sich seltsam

Both are converted to utf8 when invoking mu-find with just a pattern.

I'm not sure whether this answers your question. Could you reask for the
missing parts?

Bug#516507: Possible fix for sparc FTBFS

2009-06-30 Thread Jurij Smakov
Hi,

One possible way to fix the problem is to increase the size returned
by ASSOC_ELEM_SIZE macro, defined in mailbox/assoc.c, by one, i.e. to
change the line 61 in mailbox/assoc.c from

#define ASSOC_ELEM_SIZE(a) ((a)->elsize + sizeof(struct _mu_assoc_elem) - 1)

to

#define ASSOC_ELEM_SIZE(a) ((a)->elsize + sizeof(struct _mu_assoc_elem))

That will make element size to be 12 on sparc, guaranteeing that each of
them will be word-aligned. Assuming that all manipulations rely only on
the ASSOC_ELEM_* macros and don't do any assumptions about that size
themselves, it looks like a fairly safe way to fix it. I've confirmed
that it builds successfully and all tests pass with this change on sparc.

Best regards,

I guess, I triggered the same bug. KVM 84+dfsg-2 starts Win XP with
kernel linux-image-2.6.28-1-686 successfully, but with
linux-image-2.6.29-2-686 or linux-image-2.6.30-1-686 the XP boot seems
to halt, when the Windows XP boot logo should appear.

P.S. No success with linux-image-2.6.30-1-686 either, which reached
Debian/sid. When I start the Windows XP image in kvm with
virt-manager, the virtual BIOS appears and I can choose with F12 the
boot medium, but the Win XP splash logo does not appear. The console
window remains dark. It is possible, that XP is running in the
background, because I see no error message - but if so, I have no
graphics output. - When I boot with linux-image-2.6.28-1-686, XP
starts, how it should. A few weeks past, and I have no idea.

Yes, because at boot time, the machine isn't connected yet.

> As far as I know ntpd will behave correctly when it can't reach a
> nameserver.

But in that case, why isn't there a script in /etc/network/if-up.d
to restart ntpd? In fact there was one in the past, but it has been
removed probably because:

ntp (1:4.2.4p0+dfsg-1) unstable; urgency=low

This version of ntp will periodically rescan the network interfaces to
pick up new and deleted interfaces. This should supplant most or all
of the various workarounds in use such as restarting the daemon in
  /etc/network/if-up.d/ or /etc/ppp/ip-up.d/.

 -- Peter Eisentraut Thu, 3 May 2007 11:32:29 +0200

So, ntpd doesn't behave as documented.

2009-06-30 Thread Leszek Koltunski
Package: gnome-control-center
Version: 1:2.26.0-1
Severity: normal

I caught this. Way to reproduce:

1) I open gnome-keybinding-properties and add a 'Custom Shortcut' which ,
on press of 'XF86Bluetooth' ( mapped to Ctrl-F5 here ) is supposed to
launch the following script /home/leszek/test.sh:

#!/bin/sh
echo CALLED >> /home/leszek/test

2) I press Ctrl-F5 and the script indeed gets called.
3) I reboot the comp
4) the script does NOT get called anymore.
5) xev confirms that Ctrl-F5 still generates a keypress.

Just like the original submitter said, this ONLY manifests itself with those
special XF86*** keys.

On the other hand, if that package is only ever useful on Linux, it
probably could be added to the P-a-s database (Packages arch specific)
and dropped from libopenmpi-dev's dependencies for non-Linux archs.

That was my first impression given the infiniband stuff, but since it
finally built, I proposed a patch anyway.

Could you please confirm or infirm that?

Bug#535201: Acknowledgement (openvpn: Racecondition can kill OpenVPN tunnels until one side is manually restarted)

2009-06-30 Thread Sven Trenkel
Actually, openvpn doesn't use "read", it uses "recvfrom". And Linux does
not keep reporting this error until the socket is closed, but until the
next "sendto" to the same host/port. This means that this bug doesn't
appear most of the time, just in some situation where openvpn waits for
the remote system without doing a "sendto" between "recvfrom" calls.

Bug#535221: osm2pgsql: consider including 900913.sql in the package?

2009-06-30 Thread Timo Juhani Lindfors
Package: osm2pgsql
Version: 0.66.20090526-1
Severity: wishlist

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Mapnik

instructs that I should import some "900913.sql" which is "included
with osm2pqsql". However, the debian package contains no such file.

Any idea how essential this is? I see the file in the source package,
maybe it should be included in the binary package as well?

The wiki page links to

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Osm2pgsql

which says that osm2pgsl can be installed with apt-get. So if user
should get "900913.sql" via some other means than apt-get I think we
should document that in the wiki. (Yes I know bugs.debian.org is not
for bugs in the openstreetmap wiki but...).

In Ubuntu, we've applied the attached patch to achieve the following:

  - debian/patches/22_fix_not_printable_string.dpatch: Don't try to
show unprintable characters.
  - debian/control: Add missing Build-Depends on libglade-dev

We thought you might be interested in doing the same.

You can test the 'unprintable bug' by trying to add text, then pressing ctrl+d
(or ctrl+ many keys, really). The patch isn't UTF-8 aware, but neither is the
surrounding key press code, so I didn't bother redesigning it.

The libglade fix is because libgnomeprintui no longer pulls it in for us.

You are the 3rd person now that has run into this problem. There seems
to be some bug in libapt that causes a buffer oveflow in the cache and
a segfault instead of a message that the Cache-Limit needs to be
increased. At least that is what I guess.

I have radeon mobility (M76) card and I'm not using KMS. I also don't
get stale content on text VTs (just black screen).

Ops, right:

orig_x = 0x0, orig_y =  0x1
ext_mem_k = 0x
orig_video_page = 0x0
orig_video_mode = 0x3
orig_video_cols = 0x50

cl_magic = 0x0, cl_offset = 0x0
lfb_linelength = 0x400
red_size = 0x8, red_pos = 0x0
green_size = 0x8, green_pos = 0x0
blue_size = 0x8, blue_pos = 0x0
rsvd_size = 0x8, rsvd_pos = 0x0
vesapm = 0xc000:0x9eda
pages = 0x12
vesa_attributes = 0xbb
capabilities = 0x0

vesafb is not picking up the right options:

both pages and Pseudocolor values look wrong. With older grub I get:

Bug#535215: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Blank screen after suspend i830 chipset

2009-06-30 Thread Arsuk
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.3.2-2+lenny6
Severity: normal

After suspend the screen is blank. Switching to another console leaves
the screen blank. I can do ctrl&alt&F2 then log in blind and reboot. I
can also access the system with ssh etc. Revovering from hibernate
works
fine.
The PC is a Dell C400 notebook with the i830 chipset.
I cannot find any errors in the syslogs or X11 logs. It simply looks
like the driver fails to turn the screen on after suspend restores from
RAM.
Note, I have two Debian systems. Suspend / resume works fine with the
system where I use the 'nv' driver.

PS: I have tried VBErestore with true and false and it makes no
difference.

Thanks!
Indeed, /etc/nsswitch.conf contained this entry:

hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4

and there is no such thing as a /lib32/libnss_mdns4_minimal on my
system.
Removing the "[NOTFOUND=return]" part resolves the problem, though
I don't understand why: based on libc.info, I would expect that in
the absence of a libnss_mdns4_minimal, 'unavail' would be returned,
not 'notfound'.

Anyway, the problem is now gone for me, but it would be nice if it
could be fixed in the distribution. My current system is a fresh
install done a few weeks ago, and I did not edit this file by hand,
so apparently it was set up like this by some package, though I don't
know which, nor why...

Regards, Pieter-Tjerk

That's exactly my point. Will the second module be loaded still if the
first one didn't fail to load (i.e. the probe failure isn't communicated to
userspace)?

Hm, apparently it's the kernel postinst that invokes depmod, not
update-initramfs.
