Bug#540448: document CONCURRENCY in the rcS(5) manpage and add it to /etc/default/rcS
[Christoph Anton Mitterer] It seems that at least /etc/init.d/rc uses the CONCURRENCY which can be set in /etc/default/rcS . I'd suggest to add a line with the default value (which is none as far as I can tell from /etc/init.d/rc) and perhaps short documentation as suggested by bug #530582 and also to add documentation to the rcS(5) manpage... i.e. what the CONCURRENCY option is used for,.. and what it's different values (startpar, makefile, none) mean. It is not documented because it is an experimental feature that is intended to change. When it is working properly and safe to use for everyone, I plan to make it the default and drop the option completely. As for adding more information in /etc/default/rcS, that is not done to avoid dpkg conffile questions during upgrades. I believe the best option is to move the default settings into a non-conffile file, and thus have only the sysadmin touch the /etc/default/rcS file. Bug#540303: [Pkg-ia32-libs-maintainers] Bug#540303: lots of files left in /emul/ after removing ia32-libs
Christoph Anton Mitterer christoph.anton.mitte...@physik.uni-muenchen.de writes: Hi Goswin. On Sat, 2009-08-08 at 03:08 +0200, Goswin von Brederlow wrote: And have you asked dpkg to what package they belong (by path without /emul/ia32-linux)? I will try this tomorrow (are you still awake? already awake? or just not in Germany? ;) ),... but shouldn't dpkg -S /emul/ already list all files below /emul/, that are known to dpkg? I made a short test with dpkg -S /emul/ia32-libs/usr/lib/libutil.a There's a file with this name in libc6-dev and libc6-dev-i386,.. but both not below /emul Not if you had a /usr/lib32 - /emul/ia32-libs/usr/lib link when /usr/lib32/libutil.a was installed. Not sure which ones you mean but that's not unlikely,... as I'm usually upgrading every day (sid). That would explain cruft being left behind. Ah?! Isn't it guaranteed,.. that any files from a package are deleted when it's removed/purged or upgraded and the file was dropped in the newer version (perhaps apart from config files)??? So why can this happen? You installed a package with /usr/lib32/foo while /usr/lib32 was still a link. Then you upgraded libc6-i386 which removed that link and replaced it with a directory. Last when dpkg wanted to remove /usr/lib32/foo on upgrade it was already gone and nothing was removed. /emul/ia32-linux/usr/lib/foo remains behind. Cruft in /emul/ia32-linux/ is what one would expect from updates from the broken libc6-i386 to a more recent one. Since it only affects a minority of unstable users the maintainer felt it was ok to leave them with the pieces (i.e. clean up /emul yourself). Bug#525525: [Dctrl-tools-devel] Bug#525525: do not separate stanzas with empty lines when showing Description field only
On Sat, Apr 25, 2009 at 11:18:01AM +0200, Stefano Zacchiroli wrote: Hi, I was used to see the output of the various grep-dctrl tools as stanzas separated by empty lines. That makes such output RFC822 compliant and parseable with related tools, including python-debian. However, I noticed that if I specify as output field only Description, the empty lines separating output stanzas are not there. Quick examples to show the problem: [...] The problem is reproducible with the various grep-* tools. I've found no other fields acting as Description, so my best guess is that the bug relies somewhere in the code handling multi-line fields. It's not a bug, it's a feature, going way back to the early versions of grep-dctrl. It is caused by this conditional statement: if (args.num_show_fields 1) puts(); in the output code. And incidentally, it is independent of the name of the single field - I have no idea why you weren't able to reproduce this with fields other than Description (I was able to reproduce it with Maintainer, too). I don't remember why I wrote it like that. Probably to make it more user friendly, $DEITY help me. There's a lot to be said in favor of consistency of output format, but I am a bit wary of changing longstanding practice, since there might be user scripts relying on this behavior. Bug#540146: gentoo's patch and debdiff
Hello, I fix this bug yesterday in the git repository. Please contact me before working on it next time (I am not yet on VAC). I appreciate your work but I am sorry it is a duplicate (and not using the same approach, since I split the patch). Thanks anyway. Regards Sylvain Le Gall On Sat, Aug 08, 2009 at 05:59:04PM +1000, Steffen Joeris wrote: Hi I'd suggest going with gentoo's approach of using a separate oversized.h file. Any objections? I've tried building this, but the debdiff between the -dev binary packages was quite huge, so I am not uploading anything. Bug#538959: insserv/sysv-rc using dependency based boot sequencing break migration to file-rc
Those interested in file-rc should check out BTS reports #539591 (convert file-rc to order based on dependency information) and #539609 (reguest for adotion from the file-rc maintainer). I can see gettextize's --po-dir option which can be specified several times Oops, you are right. I was wrong. Since version 0.17, gettextize *does* support multiple --po-dir options. But cannot find any option in the info docs, nor anything in autopoint's code which would seem to support several po/ dirs. So I'm a bit confused now autopoint does it automatically. It infers the list of po/ dirs. Just try it. Or better yet, add it to the docs? What should I add to the docs, if a feature is automatic? If you want to reopen this bug report, please provide a test case (configure.ac, Makefile.am etc. with several po/ directories) and a sequence of commands, including an autopoint invocation, that supports your claim. Bug#540232: xz-utils: undeclared conflict with lzip
Jonathan Nieder wrote: Hi Daniel, Hi, Apparently [1] XZ Utils and Lzip both provide an lzdiff command. The XZ Utils version is meant for comparing .lzma files, though it also can compare .xz, .gz, and .bz2 files. From the Lzip manual I gather that its version compares .lz, .gz, and .bz2 files, but I couldn't tell whether it handles .lzma files. the manpage is not up2date (going to fix that, thanks for the pointer ;). lzdiff is just a shell script that wrapps over lzip, which means it can compare any format that lzip can decompress which in turn means that yes, it can compare lzma compressed files. For now, I'm making xz-utils conflict with lzip, but I don't think that's a good solution in the long term. ack, conflicts are bad and last resort only. Can Lzip handle .lzma files? If so, do you think it's worth using alternatives to manage the lzdiff name? If not, what do you think should be done (e.g., I could just not ship lzdiff --- its functionality is in xzdiff, anyway)? no hard feelings and no strong opinions, but from the namespace used in both packages, it would make most sense to me that lzdiff is in lzip, and xzdiff is in xz-utils. however, if you'd like to keep lzdiff in your package and think it's usefull, let's do an alternative then, no problem. If I boot with the screen attached, xrandr works exactly as I would expect it to (and as it works on my more modern intel-powered laptop). If I boot without the screen attached, xrandr works exactly as I would expect except that nothing is ever displayed on the screen. (Sorry for the delay: the affected machine is semi-retired, and doesn't have a screen anywhere near it.) -- Will signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#540429: asclock: [patch] option -position -0-0/-0+0 doesn't work as expected
On Saturday, 8. August 2009, Helge Kreutzmann wrote: Could you elaborate a little more? Asclock itself doesn't know it's size, it just assumes 1x1 + 1pixel border width. So if you set point of origin _not_ to upper left corner - you'll see the problem. from the manpage: -position [+|-]x[+|-]y specifies the starting position of asclock. The [+|-] works like the standard X-Windows x/y geometry option. But it doesn't work as the x/y geometry option. Compare it to xterm/xeyes/... -g -0+0. As I wrote before: asclock -p -0+0 does get displayed outside of the upper right corner, if you look closely enough you can see a 3pixel wide pane. got it? Most helpfull would be the information, which window maker you use with which setting for asclock and the difference you see before applying your patch and after. I do not use window maker at all. The bug isn't related to a window manger and if you want to go sure on testing turn it off. Bug#540152: Fails on unclean umount *every time*
On Thu, Aug 06, 2009 at 06:13:29AM -0400, Theodore Tso wrote: On Thu, Aug 06, 2009 at 10:23:55AM +0200, Wouter Verhelst wrote: When this happens, on reboot, the system always complains that the superblock of my / filesystem (an ext4 one) has its last mount count in the future, which is an 'unexpected inconsistency' and causes it to drop to a root login, asking me to perform a manual fsck. Since this happens every time, I think the 'unexpected' part of the above is a bug, and an annoying one at that. E2fsck requires that the system clock be correct when it runs. I bet your trashy laptop not only has a bad design where you don't notice that you are running out of memory, but also that it doesn't have a separate CMOS to maintain your CMOS memory and time-of-day clock after your primary battery has died. As a result, when you restore power to your laptop and reboot, I suspect what is happening is that your time-of-day clock is insane at the time when e2fsck is running, and so it's deciding that it needs to do a full check of the filesystem due to it being too long since the last time the filesystem was checked, or some such. That was my first thought. However, I consider this unlikely, given: - The problem did not happen when I was running the system off of ext3 rather than ext4 (at least, I do not remember that to be the case). - I filed this bug report while on the train, after it had just happened. I did not have network there, so it was not a matter of the system clock being wildly incorrect and me not noticing because NTP fixed my clock before I could log on, or some such. What message is e2fsck printing to explain why it thinks a full filesystem check is warranted? I'm almost 99% certain it's time-related. There is no message other than the 'UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY' message. The check is the normal 'fsck -a' check that is done at bootup, which finds that error and tells me to fix it. -- The biometric identification system at the gates of the CIA headquarters works because there's a guard with a large gun making sure no one is trying to fool the system. http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2009/01/biometrics.html -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#540505: ldap-account-manager: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update
Package: ldap-account-manager Version: N/A Severity: wishlist Tags: patch l10n Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors. If you do not already use it, you might consider using the podebconf-report-po utility, which helps warning translators about changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages. The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA process which requires time). podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-) Example use (from your package build tree): $ podebconf-report-po This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a mail to send to these translators (you can also use the --languageteam switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in Language-Team field). You can also use this utility to request for new translations: $ podebconf-report-po --call This will send a mail to debian-i...@lists.debian.org with all the needed information and material for new translators to add new languages to your supported languages. Bug#531101: backported patch works
gark...@mailueberfall.de wrote: Today, I backported the patch from git to the current glib2.0. Worked well and solves both the DISPLAY environment problem (as well as the nautilus crash when using the newer glib2.0 from experimental to which nautilus probably wasn't compatible to). I'd love to see this patch in unstable soon. :) Actually I've just looked into this and that upstream change is already in unstable, furthermore gio/gdesktopappinfo.c is exactly the same in the unstable and experimental packages. Were you using glib 2.20.4 from unstable, or 2.20.1 from testing? signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
Bug#540508: mysql-dfsg-5.1: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update
Package: mysql-dfsg-5.1 Version: N/A Severity: wishlist Tags: patch l10n Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors. If you apply this policy, please forget about these remarks, of courseThis message is generic..:-) -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash # Translation of mysql-dfsg-* debconf templates to French # Copyright (C) 2004-2009 Debian French l10n team debian-l10n-fre...@lists.debian.org # This file is distributed under the same license as the mysql-dfsg-* packages. # # Translators: # Christian Perrier bubu...@debian.org, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009. msgid msgstr Project-Id-Version: fr\n Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: mysql-dfsg-...@packages.debian.org\n POT-Creation-Date: 2009-08-04 19:28+0200\n PO-Revision-Date: 2009-08-08 14:56+0200\n Last-Translator: Christian Perrier bubu...@debian.org\n Language-Team: French debian-l10n-fre...@lists.debian.org\n MIME-Version: 1.0\n Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8\n Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n debian.org\n X-Generator: Lokalize 0.3\n Plural-Forms: Plural-Forms: nplurals=2; plural=n1;\n #.
