Bug#495949: grub-common: grub-probe segfaults
Hi Félix Well: grub install (md0)' leads to the same error message grub-install /dev/sda then grun-install /dev/sdb leads to other problems: the device naming is not consistant from one boot to another. Sometimes I've md0 with /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1 and sometimes with sdb1 and adc1 while they are the same phisycal disks. So /boot/grub/device.map doesnt reflects always the real (logcal) configuration of the system. This can produce erroror. As I've seen there is a new version, I've tried again: sudo grub-install '(md0)' ... and it failed with the following message [jean-...@tangerine] % sudo grub-install '(md0)' grub-setup: warn: Attempting to install GRUB to a partitionless disk. This is a BAD idea. grub-setup: error: Embedding is not possible, but this is required when the root device is on a RAID array or LVM volume. I had a look in my raid configuration: The devices.map files has (hd0) /dev/sda (hd1) /dev/sdb But depending the way the system start, the device name is not consistant from a session to an other one. This time md0 was /dev/sdb1, /dev/sdc1 Today /dev/sda was grabbed by an external USB disk… I edited devices.map: (hd0) /dev/sdb (hd1) /dev/sdc And this time everything went fine. jean-...@tangerine] % sudo grub-install '(md0)' Installation finished. No error reported. This is the contents of the device map /boot/grub/device.map. Check if this is correct or not. If any of the lines is incorrect, fix it and re-run the script `grub-install'. (hd0) /dev/sdb (hd1) /dev/sdc Is there a mean not to have to edit by hand devices.map each time the system is rebooted? Maybe a warning as when the result is successful about possibly wrong devices.map? Regards Jean-Luc pgpws4Dj7SEOO.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#540735: Work in progress
Hi, I spent time on this bug to understand what and what-elses… This work resulted in two patches fixing the cannot import name options [0] and a runtime error I had [1]. [0] http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-kde/trunk/packages/kdeadmin/debian/patches/01_system_config_printer_kde_cupsutils.diff [1] http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-kde/trunk/packages/kdeadmin/debian/patches/03_fix_runtime_fail_type_mismatch.diff What I understood so far is that kde4.py file from python-kde4 [2] is not loaded by the system-config-printer-kde, where it should (obviously). A possibility was to patch s-c-p-k to get rid of what needed python-kde4, but it is an obviously broken solution. Finally, I found the necessary trick to make s-c-p-k work : # ln -sf /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.5/PyQt4/uic/widget-plugins/kde4.py /usr/share/python-qt4/widget-plugins/ # ln -sf /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.5/PyQt4/uic/widget-plugins/kde4.pyc /usr/share/python-qt4/widget-plugins/ [2] python-kde4: /usr/share/pyshared/PyQt4/uic/widget-plugins/kde4.py My guess is that python-qt4 has a path problem and should be able to catch those kde4.py{,c} files where they are. Does this mean that this (RC) bug should be reassigned to python-qt4 ? Best regards, OdyX -- Didier Raboud, proud Debian user. Package: gawk Version: 1:3.1.5.dfsg-4.1 Severity: minor Thanks for maintaining Debian's gawk package. It's important. It seems to me that awk's man page would be better if it were less terse, and explained that the exit command's expression determines the exit status returned by awk scripts. Bug#539609: RFA: file-rc -- Alternative boot mechanism using a single configuration file
retitle 539609 ITA: file-rc -- Alternative boot mechanism using a single configuration file thanks Hi, I request an adopter for the file-rc package. The package description is: This package provides an alternative mechanism to boot the system, to shut it down and to change runlevels. The /etc/rc?.d/* links will be converted into one single configuration file /etc/runlevel.conf instead, which is easier to administrate than symlinks, and is also more flexible. . The package will automatically convert your existing symlinks into the file method on installation, and convert the file back into symlinks on removal. Both mechanisms are compatible through /etc/init.d/rc, /etc/init.d/rcS, /usr/sbin/update-rc.d, and /usr/sbin/invoke-rc.d scripts. At the moment this package requires some action because it is required to implement insserv functionality here, see Bug#539591. At the moment I personally won't find the time to dig deep enough into insserv to code this. So I request for an adopter of this package. Michael Prokop and I would take the package. Bug#539591: file-rc: Need to use dependency based boot sequencing from now on
severity 539591 wishlist thanks Package: file-rc Version: 0.8.11 Severity: important User: initscripts-ng-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org Usertags: runtime-problem Hi. For Debian Squeeze, update-rc.d will change behaviour to order init.d scripts using dependencies. This means file-rc need to change to work like this too. The change has already been done in sysv-rc. Kel and me are working on fixing the migration problem that was introduced when sysv-rc made dependency based boot sequencing mandatory, to allow file-rc to be installed again. For file-rc to work properly, it also need to change to order scripts the same way sysv-rc do. Setting severity to important for now. Perhaps critical is a better severity for this issue? This is stupid. You broke it, please repair it. Until dependency based boot sequencing is part of the policy don't try to force people into it. Please fix your own stuff first. Bug#540794: Arch detection for dh
On Mon, Aug 10, 2009 at 12:11:41PM -0400, Joey Hess wrote: Wouter Verhelst wrote: When reading the documentation page, the '-a' option clearly states 'Act on all architecture dependent packages', and therefore this does seem to be consistent with the documentation. However, I believe redefining it to say 'all architecture dependent packages relevant for this architecture' would be more useful That's the -s flag, have you tried it? Ah, no; I missed that. Thanks for pointing it out; I probably read the whole manpage at some point when I wrote the initial nbd rules file, but since that's so many years ago, I'm not surprised new features have cropped up in the mean time ;-) while it would be unlikely that this would bebreaking anything that depends on the current behaviour (the current behaviour results in either building the same thing as this proposed behaviour, or failing outright). IIRC the reason -a does not do what -s does is because it made debhelper quite a bit slower since it needs to run dpkg-architecture (at least twice) for each command. Oh, I see. Yes, that would be a good reason, I suppose. That speed issue may not be very relevant now (except for on, oh, m68k and arm?). And maybe that could be optimised.. in fact I think I just eliminated it. The only case I can imagine where the current -a behavior might be depended on is something using dh_listpackages -a to get a list of all binary packages, including ones not built for the current architecture, and doing something with it other than building packages. That seems unlikely. Right. I don't think there's any particular reason for dh to have its current behavior -- it can run dpkg-architecture just once when figuring out which packages to act on. The change there looks to be this simple, though I need to test it: ... and your follow-up mail shows that there is a significant difference. While detecing it could work, it might also be reasonable to just have dh support a '-s' option; if that is specified, then dh should pass -s rather than -a to all the commands it runs. OTOH, having a snippet that says override_dh_gencontrol: dh_gencontrol -s is not quite as ugly as the ifeq() make construction that I'm living with now, would not result in dh having to pass -s to *every* command so would not slow things down quite as considerably, and is small enough that I would be able to live with it. Feel free to close without further mention if you're not going to do the autodetection or extra option to dh. -- The biometric identification system at the gates of the CIA headquarters works because there's a guard with a large gun making sure no one is trying to fool the system. http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2009/01/biometrics.html -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. The server is event-driven and manages all user objects as well as the communication between the connected clients. . Different from most other cooperation tools is the novel possibility of self-organisation and self-administration by the members within the virtual environment. . In the core, the system provides the following self-administrating functions: . * creation of rooms * granting of admission or access authorisations * administration and processing of objects or references to objects and documents located on other servers * carrying objects and passing them on to other users * use of rooms as cooperative media (e.g. Shared Whiteboard) . A more detailed description can be found on the website: http://www.open-steam.org/ . sTeam needs a mysql server, but it need not necessarily be installed on the same computer. . Bug#540749: [Pkg-libvirt-maintainers] Bug#540749: virt-manager: how do we enhance interoperability
On Mon, Aug 10, 2009 at 12:30:12PM +0530, Ritesh Raj Sarraf wrote: The current version of virt-manager in Debian, when connecting to a Fedora 11 KVM VM, gives a very mis-leading error message. Attached screenshot with this bug report explains it. How does one mitigate such problems? All distributions almost share the same common codebase but still can't guarantee interoperability. In this case, the version of netcat shipped in Debian supports -q, where as the version in Fedora doesn't. I know I'm using testing/squeeze and this might be expected, but then how do we fix it. Is there any LSB compliance by the distributions ? Netcat seems to become more and more of a problem in libvirt/virt-manager. Different distros do use quiet different versions. Not having -q makes connections hang (not terminate) on Debian so it seems we have to jump through loops to figure out the right netcat. Bug#541012: please add bug URL in emails (e.g. http://bugs.debian.org/123456)
Package: bugs.debian.org Severity: wishlist Hello, searching for solution of problems search engines often returns mailinglist archives before our http://bugs.debian.org/ BTS when there is a reported bug. For expample: http://www.google.com/search?q=debirf+random returns three mailinglist archives on the first page but not our BTS directly. People don't know that the best way would be to append the bug number directly after http://bugs.debian.org/ to find all information and maybe solutions. IMHO it would be very helpful if the BTS URL e.g. http://bugs.debian.org/123456 of a mail would be added to the report (at the end?) like the bug number is added to the subject. I hope the idea is clear and not confusing.;) Regards Noèl -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#541014: network-manager: regression - no longer possible to switch to wireless if network cable connected
Package: network-manager Version: 0.7.1-1 Severity: normal Since the upgrade from the lenny version to 0.7.1 it is no longer possible to switch to a wireless network when a network cable is connected. This is a clear regression as functionality got lost. When clicking on the wireless i get a DHCP renewal but the default route stays on the wired network. Also it is still not possible to switch off wired networking as it is possible to switch off wireless networking. Bug#540915: ejabberd in debian could'n be used with postgresql
Hi! * Ракуленко Александр Георгиевич r...@ruscobank.ru [2009-08-10 22:34:36 CEST]: The point: When you install ejabberd package in lenny or in sid ( 2009.08.11 ) it work's fine until you try to use postgresql as a backend for any module you get an error message in /var/log/ejabberd/ejabberd.log: =ERROR REPORT 2009-08-10 17:37:33 === E(0.38.0:ejabberd_rdbms:67) : Start of supervisor 'ejabberd_odbc_sup_ruscobank.ru' failed: {error,{shutdown,{child,undefined,'ejabberd_odbc_sup_ruscobank.ru', {ejabberd_odbc_sup,start_link,[ruscobank.ru]}, transient, infinity, supervisor, [ejabberd_odbc_sup]}}} Retrying... this message continues to appear in log file. ejabberd seems working fine, except the functions, that depend on the backend, that uses postgresql. My ejabberd.cfg: taiga:~# cat /etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.cfg| grep -v '%%'| grep -v '^$' {odbc_server, {pgsql, 172.16.116.12, ejabberd, postgres, xxx}}. {pgsql_users_number_estimate, true}. {odbc_pool_size, 10}. {odbc_keepalive_interval, undefined}. [...] i read different erlang manuals and got, that you need pgsql.beam pgsql_proto.beam pgsql_tcp.beam pgsql_util.beam files somewhere in your ebin path. Almost. There is also a different posibility, which I use personally to make ejabberd work with postgres: odbc. These are the settings I am using for this: #v+ {odbc_server, DSN=PSQLejabberd;UID=ejabberd;PWD=YouWish}. [...] {modules, [...] {mod_last_odbc,[]}, [...] {mod_offline_odbc,[]}, [...] {mod_roster_odbc,[]}, [...] {mod_vcard_odbc,[]}, [...] ]}. #v- And of course it needs the packages unixodbc and odbc-postgresql installed and the following parts in /etc/odbc.ini and /etc/odbcinst.ini: #v+ [PSQLejabberd] Description = PostgreSQL Driver = PostgreSQL Unicode Trace = No TraceFile = /tmp/psqlodbc.log Database= ejabberd Servername = localhost UserName= Password= Port= ReadOnly= No RowVersioning = No ShowSystemTables= No ShowOidColumn = No FakeOidIndex= No ConnSettings= #v- #v+ [PostgreSQL Unicode] Description = PostgreSQL ODBC driver (Unicode version) Driver = /usr/lib/odbc/psqlodbcw.so Setup = /usr/lib/odbc/libodbcpsqlS.so Debug = 0 CommLog = 1 UsageCount = 1 #v- Granted, that's not most straight forward, but it works without any problem or additional modules. For a start, adding that modules into the ejabberd package would add a dependency on the postgres library, and people would also want the mysql one in with its dependency - which is a no-go. Having it in a seperate package might work out, but then, it actually /does/ work through the odbc framework and I'm not totally convinced of the benefit of doing it directly. So long. :) Rhonda -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

This package is required to compile and link programs that use libgc1. . Since the collector does not require pointers to be tagged, it does not attempt to ensure that all inaccessible storage is reclaimed. However it has typically been more successful at reclaiming unused memory than most C programs using explicit deallocation. Unlike manually introduced leaks, the amount of unreclaimed memory typically stays bounded. . This version of the collector is thread safe, has C++ support, and uses the defaults for everything else. Particularly, it does not work as a malloc() replacement. Hi, when looking into this bug I noticed you mention a bogus test: permitrootlogin=`cat ${I}/sshd_config | grep PermitRootLogin | grep -v #` Try the following: % grep PermitRootLogin | grep -v '#' EOF PermitRootLogin no # PermitRootLogin yes PermitRootLogin yes # Allow root to login remotely EOF PermitRootLogin no % IIRC sshd uses the last occurrence of an option if it is given multiple times. I'd suggest you change your test to % (cut -d'#' -f 1 | grep PermitRootLogin) EOF PermitRootLogin no # PermitRootLogin yes PermitRootLogin yes # Allow root to login remotely EOF PermitRootLogin no PermitRootLogin yes % Thanks Siggy ps: I didn't read rkhunter code, judging only from your sample. -- bsb-at-psycho-dot-informationsanarchistik-dot-de or:bsb-at-psycho-dot-i21k-dot-de O ascii ribbon campaign - stop html mail - www.asciiribbon.org signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#338867: abcm2ps: unexpected result with K:D =c
Hi Bart -- Sorry for sitting on this bug for so long. It seems that in the meantime the consensus within the ABC community has changed such that »K:D =c« no longer means »two sharps and then a natural sign before every c« but instead means »a sharp sign on the f line and a natural sign in the c space«. For example, the draft ABC music standard 2.0 says in section 3.1.14 (»K: - key«): Likewise, K:D maj =c or K:D =c will give a key signature with f sharp and c natural. The current version of abcm2ps implements this correctly, so I'm closing the bug report. Thanks for calling it in, anyway! Anselm -- Anselm Lingnau, Friedberg, Germany . ans...@strathspey.org We may define »faith« as the firm belief in something for which there is no evidence. Where there is evidence, no one speaks of »faith.« We do not speak of faith that two and two are four or that the earth is round. Bug#539480: lists.debian.org: Proposed anti-spam measure
tag 539480 wontfix thanks Eugene Gorodinsky schrieb am Saturday, den 01. August 2009: Package: lists.debian.org Severity: wishlist As I understand there is a decision to keep the debian list open to all. This results in having to deal with a lot of spam emails. My suggestion is to have a list of authenticated senders and non-authenticated senders. Upon sending a message to the list, a non-authenticated sender will have an e-mail sent back to her with a request to confirm that the email was indeed sent from the address specified in its header and by a person (spammers use automation software and fake email addresses, so most of the spam messages won't be confirmed). The system could require the user to send another email, with an automatically generated confirmation code, to confirm that she sent the first email. Upon receiving the confirmation email, the original email will be published on the list. Additionally the non-authenticated sender may be added to the authenticated senders list. Any person who subscribes to the list will automatically be added to the list of authenticated senders. Any kind of challenge response system is a no-go. I have seen to many of them misused for denial of service attacks (spam senders are usally forged), also having two challenge response systems playing ping-pong is really great. Also its a general policy that our mailinglists are open. So unfortunaly I have to tag your request wontfix. So long. :) Rhonda Hi, thanks for your reply. Well, i know about the odbc framework... I still think, that something should me done, because the debian user, who installed a ejabberd packeage is misinformed. If you want to use it with pgsql you probably go to config and search for pgsql or postgres there. And use see: %% %% PostgreSQL server: %% %%{odbc_server, {pgsql, server, database, username, password}}. %% %% If you want to specify the port: %%{odbc_server, {pgsql, server, 1234, database, username, password}}. Of course if you never install ejabberd manually you'll think it's all you have to do to connect ejabberd to your pgsql server. So, my opinion is that you have do one of the following: - add a comment to ejabberd.cfg, saying that debian ejabberd package works with sql only throw odbc - rebuild ejabberd so, that it couldn't use native mode at all - add a package with erlang-pgsql and erlang-mysql (with *sql dependencies) (of course i'd prefere adding a package with erlang-pgsql :-) ) otherwise user is misinformed why his ejabberd doesn't work properly. i only figured it out with the help of my comrade, who uses freebsd, and therefor knows what you need to compile to make ejd working. this is russian linux comunity forum: http://linuxforum.ru/index.php?showtopic=88957 where i started to solve the problem. people there use native postgres mode. thank you. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#518511: Patch for the crash
Hi, i tested the patch and it works even for me: krfb doesn't crash anymore on client disconnect, thanks! Moreover i had another problem (don't know if i am the only one given that i haven't see any related bug report...) : I run krfb on a Debian Lenny amd64 dual core system; connecting from another pc with krdc client, krfb deny the connection saying the password is wrong (while i'm 100% sure the password is correct). Well, after verified that using krfb version 4:3.5.7-4~bpo40+1 (from etch-backports: install just fine on Lenny) i'm able to connect, i go through the kfrb source code and found the only differences between 3.5.7 and 3.5.10 was upstream revision 794662: http://websvn.kde.org/?view=revrevision=794662 . Then i reverted r794662 and the above problem on kfrb 3.5.10 has gone. Just my two cents, Andrea. Bug#539176: Please special-case the kernel so that all bug reports are filed against the source package
Hi Moritz On Mon, Aug 3, 2009 at 19:42, Moritz Muehlenhoffj...@inutil.org wrote: Hi, On Wed, Jul 29, 2009 at 17:45, Moritz Muehlenhoffj...@debian.org wrote: Package: reportbug Version: 4.5 Severity: wishlist The linux-2.6 source package is a bit special in comparison to other packages because the names of the binary packages change frequently (every 2-3 months with the release of a new kernel version). Currently, most bugs are reassigned manually to the linux-2.6 source package. It would be nice if all bugs filed against the kernel in reportbug were always directed towards the linux-2.6 source package. Of course we'd be more than happy to help you with this, but I got some thoughts: - wouldn't you lost the information about what kernel the bug is about? It's true that in the Sys info below we got: Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) but that's the running kernel. What if a user want to report a bug against another version of the kernel (for example that can't boot) than the one running? How do you manage this? That's usually mentioned in the bug report itself. It's quite a cornercase and I think we can ignore it. ok then - would you please be so kind to provide us the stricter regular expression to match a binary kernel package? :) this way we can match the current bin package name against the regex and do the voodoo magic to force the report against linux-2.6 (yeah, this also means that if you change the binary name structure, you should communicate us back the new regexp). I could write myself, but I think that you would end up with a much better one ;) The following matches should be safe: linux-doc-2.6* linux-headers-2.6* linux-image-2.6* linux-libc-dev linux-manual-2.6* linux-patch-debian-2.6* linux-source-2.6* linux-support-2.6* linux-tree-2.6* Oh, only now I think of it: does all those bin packages come from linux-2.6 source package? if so, I think we can check if the source package is 'linux-2.6' and force to assign all bugs for its bin pkgs to it. What do you think? The kernel developers have mentioned that they don't intend to change the kernel versioning scheme in the foreseeable future and by current development speed it'll take 17 years until 2.6.100 is released :-) eheh :) Cheers, -- Sandro Tosi (aka morph, morpheus, matrixhasu) My website: http://matrixhasu.altervista.org/ Me at Debian: http://wiki.debian.org/SandroTosi -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
