It might be orphaned, but it does not change fact that the problem lies

Bug#540958: libvorbis: CVE-2009-2663 vulnerability

2009-08-11 Thread Peter Samuelson

 CVE-2009-2663[0]:
 | libvorbis before r16182, as used in Mozilla Firefox before 3.0.13 and
 | 3.5.x before 3.5.2 and other products, allows context-dependent
 | attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption and
 | application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted
 | .ogg file.

I've applied upstream's patch[*] to the etch and lenny libvorbis releases:

http://p12n.org/tmp/cve-2009-2663/libvorbis_1.1.2.dfsg-1.4+etch1.dsc
http://p12n.org/tmp/cve-2009-2663/libvorbis_1.2.0.dfsg-3.1+lenny1.dsc

I'm prepared to upload the same patch to sid, as libvorbis 1.2.0.dfsg-6.
(I could upload a new upstream version, but I'd like to try and resolve
a dfsg situation there first.)

Bug#495949: grub-common: grub-probe segfaults

2009-08-11 Thread Jean-Luc Coulon (f5ibh)
Hi Félix

Well:
grub install (md0)' leads to the same error message

grub-install /dev/sda then grun-install /dev/sdb leads to other
problems: the device naming is not consistant from one boot to
 another. Sometimes I've md0 with /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1 and
 sometimes with sdb1 and adc1 while they are the same phisycal disks.
So /boot/grub/device.map doesnt reflects always the real (logcal)
 configuration of the system. This can produce erroror.

As I've seen there is a new version, I've tried again:

sudo grub-install '(md0)'

... and it failed with the following message

[jean-...@tangerine] % sudo grub-install '(md0)'
grub-setup: warn: Attempting to install GRUB to a partitionless disk.
This is a BAD idea.
grub-setup: error: Embedding is not possible, but this is required when
the root device is on a RAID array or LVM volume.

I had a look in my raid configuration:
The devices.map files has

(hd0)   /dev/sda
(hd1)   /dev/sdb

But depending the way the system start, the device name is not
consistant from a session to an other one.

This time md0 was /dev/sdb1, /dev/sdc1

Today /dev/sda was grabbed by an external USB disk…

I edited devices.map:

(hd0)   /dev/sdb
(hd1)   /dev/sdc

And this time everything went fine.
jean-...@tangerine] % sudo grub-install '(md0)'
Installation finished. No error reported.
This is the contents of the device map /boot/grub/device.map.
Check if this is correct or not. If any of the lines is incorrect,
fix it and re-run the script `grub-install'.

(hd0)   /dev/sdb
(hd1)   /dev/sdc

Is there a mean not to have to edit by hand devices.map each time the
system is rebooted? Maybe a warning as when the result is successful
about possibly wrong devices.map?

Regards

Jean-Luc

Bug#318133: icewm: Ctrl+Alt+h cannot be used as shortcut anymore

2009-08-11 Thread Thomas Arendsen Hein
The preferences files contains the line
# KeySysCollapseTaskBar=Alt+Ctrl+h
which shows the default behaviour without looking at the source.

If the user adds
KeySysCollapseTaskBar=
to his ~/.icewm/preferences he can use Ctrl+Alt+h as a shortcut again.

The changelog.gz file mentions this:
1.2.22pre1: 2005-06-28
- Added key binding: KeySysCollapseTaskBar

I propose closing this old issue.

Bug#540735: Work in progress

2009-08-11 Thread Didier 'OdyX' Raboud
Hi,

I spent time on this bug to understand what and what-elses… This work resulted
in two patches fixing the cannot import name options [0] and a runtime error
I had [1].

[0]
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-kde/trunk/packages/kdeadmin/debian/patches/01_system_config_printer_kde_cupsutils.diff
[1]
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-kde/trunk/packages/kdeadmin/debian/patches/03_fix_runtime_fail_type_mismatch.diff

What I understood so far is that kde4.py file from python-kde4 [2] is not
loaded by the system-config-printer-kde, where it should (obviously). A
possibility was to patch s-c-p-k to get rid of what needed python-kde4, but it
is an obviously broken solution. Finally, I found the necessary trick to make
s-c-p-k work :

# ln -sf /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.5/PyQt4/uic/widget-plugins/kde4.py
/usr/share/python-qt4/widget-plugins/
# ln -sf /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.5/PyQt4/uic/widget-plugins/kde4.pyc
/usr/share/python-qt4/widget-plugins/

[2] python-kde4: /usr/share/pyshared/PyQt4/uic/widget-plugins/kde4.py

My guess is that python-qt4 has a path problem and should be able to catch
those kde4.py{,c} files where they are. Does this mean that this (RC) bug
should be reassigned to python-qt4 ?

Best regards,

OdyX

Bug#540991: gawk: Explain that the exit statement returns a status

2009-08-11 Thread Kingsley G. Morse Jr.
Package: gawk
Version: 1:3.1.5.dfsg-4.1
Severity: minor

Thanks for maintaining Debian's gawk package.

It's important.

It seems to me that awk's man page would be better
if it were less terse, and explained that the exit
command's expression determines the exit status
returned by awk scripts.

So, instead of saying

exit [ expression ]

the man page would say something like

exit [ expression for exit status ]

Thanks,
Kingsley

Could you please explain more. How do you know LXDE expects it on
/usr/share/lxde/config?

 This seems fixed upstream with rev 1815 but instead of waiting the new
 release, you could temporally change the sysconfdir flag on debian/rules
 to /usr/share instead of /etc.

To put config file under etc/ should be the goal in upstream. Maybe you
better report this bug to upstream?

Bug#539609: RFA: file-rc -- Alternative boot mechanism using a single configuration file

2009-08-11 Thread Alexander Wirt
retitle 539609 ITA: file-rc -- Alternative boot mechanism using a single
configuration file
thanks

Hi,
 I request an adopter for the file-rc package.

 The package description is:
  This package provides an alternative mechanism to boot the system, to
  shut it down and to change runlevels. The /etc/rc?.d/* links will be
  converted into one single configuration file /etc/runlevel.conf
  instead, which is easier to administrate than symlinks, and is also
  more flexible.
  .
  The package will automatically convert your existing symlinks into
  the file method on installation, and convert the file back into
  symlinks on removal. Both mechanisms are compatible through
  /etc/init.d/rc, /etc/init.d/rcS, /usr/sbin/update-rc.d, and
  /usr/sbin/invoke-rc.d scripts.

 At the moment this package requires some action because it is required
 to implement insserv functionality here, see Bug#539591.
 At the moment I personally won't find the time to dig deep enough into
 insserv to code this.

 So I request for an adopter of this package.

Michael Prokop and I would take the package.

Alex

Bug#539591: file-rc: Need to use dependency based boot sequencing from now on

2009-08-11 Thread Alexander Wirt
severity 539591 wishlist
thanks

 Package: file-rc
 Version: 0.8.11
 Severity: important
 User: initscripts-ng-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org
 Usertags: runtime-problem

 Hi. For Debian Squeeze, update-rc.d will change behaviour to order
 init.d scripts using dependencies. This means file-rc need to change
 to work like this too. The change has already been done in sysv-rc.

 Kel and me are working on fixing the migration problem that was
 introduced when sysv-rc made dependency based boot sequencing
 mandatory, to allow file-rc to be installed again. For file-rc to
 work properly, it also need to change to order scripts the same way
 sysv-rc do.

 Setting severity to important for now. Perhaps critical is a better
 severity for this issue?
This is stupid. You broke it, please repair it. Until dependency based boot
sequencing is part of the policy don't try to force people into it. Please
fix your own stuff first.

Alex

Bug#540794: Arch detection for dh

2009-08-11 Thread Wouter Verhelst
On Mon, Aug 10, 2009 at 12:11:41PM -0400, Joey Hess wrote:

  When reading the documentation page, the '-a' option clearly states 'Act
  on all architecture dependent packages', and therefore this does seem to

  to say 'all architecture dependent packages relevant for this
  architecture' would be more useful

 That's the -s flag, have you tried it?

Ah, no; I missed that. Thanks for pointing it out; I probably read the
whole manpage at some point when I wrote the initial nbd rules file, but
since that's so many years ago, I'm not surprised new features have
cropped up in the mean time ;-)

  while it would be unlikely that this
  would bebreaking anything that depends on the current behaviour (the
  current behaviour results in either building the same thing as this
  proposed behaviour, or failing outright).

 IIRC the reason -a does not do what -s does is because it made debhelper
 quite a bit slower since it needs to run dpkg-architecture (at least twice)
 for each command.

Oh, I see. Yes, that would be a good reason, I suppose.

 That speed issue may not be very relevant now (except for
 on, oh, m68k and arm?). And maybe that could be optimised.. in fact
 I think I just eliminated it.

 The only case I can imagine where the current -a behavior might be depended
 on is something using dh_listpackages -a to get a list of all binary packages,
 including ones not built for the current architecture, and doing something
 with it other than building packages. That seems unlikely.

Right.

 I don't think there's any particular reason for dh to have its current
 behavior -- it can run dpkg-architecture just once when figuring out
 which packages to act on. The change there looks to be this simple, though
 I need to test it:

... and your follow-up mail shows that there is a significant
difference.

While detecing it could work, it might also be reasonable to just have
dh support a '-s' option; if that is specified, then dh should pass -s
rather than -a to all the commands it runs.

OTOH, having a snippet that says

override_dh_gencontrol:
dh_gencontrol -s

is not quite as ugly as the ifeq() make construction that I'm living
with now, would not result in dh having to pass -s to *every* command so
would not slow things down quite as considerably, and is small enough
that I would be able to live with it.

Feel free to close without further mention if you're not going to do the
autodetection or extra option to dh.

 Hi,
Hi,

 another occurrence of bad conflict handling follows. Unfortunately, once
 it had failed, and once I started again with debug options, the order
 made it possible to configure everything properly, so I can't reproduce
 it with debug info from the initial state. Hopefully, you'll figure out
 anyway. :)
Yes. This is another bug, which I fixed in master branch recently. The debug
output confirmed it.

Description: Environment for cooperative knowledge management
 sTeam provides a technical platform which allows groups of students, lecturers
 and any other groups to construct and arrange their individual and cooperative
 learning and working space.
 .
 sTeam consists of an object-oriented server connected to a database and Web,
 Java and other (ftp, irc, ...) clients. The server is event-driven and manages
 all user objects as well as the communication between the connected clients.
 .
 Different from most other cooperation tools is the novel possibility of
 self-organisation and self-administration by the members within the virtual
 environment.
 .
 In the core, the system provides the following self-administrating functions:
 .
 * creation of rooms
 * granting of admission or access authorisations
 * administration and processing of objects or references to objects and
   documents located on other servers
 * carrying objects and passing them on to other users
 * use of rooms as cooperative media (e.g. Shared Whiteboard)
 .
 A more detailed description can be found on the website:
 http://www.open-steam.org/
 .
 sTeam needs a mysql server, but it need not necessarily be installed on the
 same computer.
 .
 This package contains the sTeam server.

Bug#540749: [Pkg-libvirt-maintainers] Bug#540749: virt-manager: how do we enhance interoperability

2009-08-11 Thread Guido Günther
On Mon, Aug 10, 2009 at 12:30:12PM +0530, Ritesh Raj Sarraf wrote:
 The current version of virt-manager in Debian, when connecting to a
 Fedora 11 KVM VM, gives a very mis-leading error message.
 Attached screenshot with this bug report explains it.

 How does one mitigate such problems?
 All distributions almost share the same common codebase but still can't
 guarantee interoperability.

 In this case, the version of netcat shipped in Debian supports -q,
 where as the version in Fedora doesn't.
 I know I'm using testing/squeeze and this might be expected, but then
 how do we fix it. Is there any LSB compliance by the distributions ?
Netcat seems to become more and more of a problem in
libvirt/virt-manager. Different distros do use quiet different versions.
Not having -q makes connections hang (not terminate) on Debian so it
seems we have to jump through loops to figure out the right netcat.
Cheers,

 it detects.
 .
 'stress' is not a benchmark. It is a tool used by system administrators to
 evaluate how well their systems will scale, by kernel programmers to evaluate
 perceived performance characteristics, and by systems programmers to expose
 the classes of bugs which only or more frequently manifest themselves when
 the system is under heavy load.

Bug#541012: please add bug URL in emails (e.g. http://bugs.debian.org/123456)

2009-08-11 Thread Noèl Köthe
Package: bugs.debian.org
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

searching for solution of problems search engines often returns mailinglist
archives before our http://bugs.debian.org/ BTS when there is a reported
bug.

For expample:

http://www.google.com/search?q=debirf+random

returns three mailinglist archives on the first page but not our BTS directly.
People don't know that the best way would be to append the bug number
directly after http://bugs.debian.org/ to find all information and maybe
solutions.

IMHO it would be very helpful if the BTS URL e.g. http://bugs.debian.org/123456
of a mail would be added to the report (at the end?) like the bug number is
added to the subject.

I hope the idea is clear and not confusing.;)

Regards

Noèl

Description: LaTeX documentstyle from the American Physical Society (obsolete)
 REVTeX is an electronic publishing product of the American
 Physical Society. It is a set of LaTeX-based tags that can be
 used to prepare a physics manuscript for submission. If REVTeX
 tags are used consistently throughout a manuscript and published
 guidelines are followed exactly, it is hoped that the TeX
 manuscript file (called a compuscript) can be used by APS, OSA,
 AIP, and other participating member societies in production of
 author proofs. This package is now obsolete, REVTeX 4, provided by
 the package tetex-extra should be used instead. This package is kept

2009-08-11 Thread Anselm Lingnau
Thank you for your bug report, which I'm looking into at the moment. I don't
seem to be able to reproduce the bug in question -- can you send me a minimal
ABC file that reproduces it? That would be very helpful.

Thank you very much!

Bug#541014: network-manager: regression - no longer possible to switch to wireless if network cable connected

2009-08-11 Thread Florian Lohoff
Package: network-manager
Version: 0.7.1-1
Severity: normal

Since the upgrade from the lenny version to 0.7.1 it is no longer possible
to switch to a wireless network when a network cable is connected. This is a
clear regression as functionality got lost.

When clicking on the wireless i get a DHCP renewal but the default route
stays on the wired network.

Also it is still not possible to switch off wired networking as it is possible
to switch off wireless networking.

Bug#540915: ejabberd in debian could'n be used with postgresql

2009-08-11 Thread Gerfried Fuchs
Hi!

* Ракуленко Александр Георгиевич r...@ruscobank.ru [2009-08-10 22:34:36 CEST]:
 The point:

 When you install ejabberd package in lenny or in sid ( 2009.08.11 ) it
 work's fine until you try to use postgresql as a backend for any
 module you get an error message in /var/log/ejabberd/ejabberd.log:

 =ERROR REPORT 2009-08-10 17:37:33 ===
 E(0.38.0:ejabberd_rdbms:67) : Start of supervisor
 'ejabberd_odbc_sup_ruscobank.ru' failed:
 {error,{shutdown,{child,undefined,'ejabberd_odbc_sup_ruscobank.ru',
 {ejabberd_odbc_sup,start_link,[ruscobank.ru]},
 transient,infinity,supervisor,
 [ejabberd_odbc_sup]}}}
 Retrying...

 this message continues to appear in log file. ejabberd seems working
 fine, except the functions, that depend on the backend, that uses
 postgresql.

 My ejabberd.cfg:
 taiga:~# cat /etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.cfg| grep -v '%%'| grep -v '^$'
 {odbc_server, {pgsql, 172.16.116.12, ejabberd, postgres, xxx}}.
 {pgsql_users_number_estimate, true}.
 {odbc_pool_size, 10}.
 {odbc_keepalive_interval, undefined}.
 [...]
 i read different erlang manuals and got, that you need
 pgsql.beam
 pgsql_proto.beam
 pgsql_tcp.beam
 pgsql_util.beam

 files somewhere in your ebin path.

 Almost. There is also a different posibility, which I use personally to
make ejabberd work with postgres: odbc. These are the settings I am
using for this:

#v+
{odbc_server, DSN=PSQLejabberd;UID=ejabberd;PWD=YouWish}.
[...]
{modules,
  [...]
  {mod_last_odbc,[]},
  [...]
  {mod_offline_odbc,[]},
  [...]
  {mod_roster_odbc,[]},
  [...]
  {mod_vcard_odbc,[]},
  [...]
]}.
#v-

 And of course it needs the packages unixodbc and odbc-postgresql
installed and the following parts in /etc/odbc.ini and
/etc/odbcinst.ini:

#v+
[PSQLejabberd]
Description = PostgreSQL
Driver  = PostgreSQL Unicode
Trace   = No
TraceFile   = /tmp/psqlodbc.log
Database= ejabberd
Servername  = localhost
UserName=
Password=
Port=
ReadOnly= No
RowVersioning   = No
ShowSystemTables= No
ShowOidColumn   = No
FakeOidIndex= No
ConnSettings=
#v-

#v+
[PostgreSQL Unicode]
Description = PostgreSQL ODBC driver (Unicode version)
Driver  = /usr/lib/odbc/psqlodbcw.so
Setup   = /usr/lib/odbc/libodbcpsqlS.so
Debug   = 0
CommLog = 1
UsageCount  = 1
#v-

 Granted, that's not most straight forward, but it works without any
problem or additional modules. For a start, adding that modules into the
ejabberd package would add a dependency on the postgres library, and
people would also want the mysql one in with its dependency - which is a
no-go.

 Having it in a seperate package might work out, but then, it actually
/does/ work through the odbc framework and I'm not totally convinced of
the benefit of doing it directly.

 So long. :)
Rhonda

Description: conservative garbage collector for C (development)
 Boehm's GC is a garbage collecting storage allocator that is
 intended to be used as a plug-in replacement for C's malloc.
 This package is required to compile and link programs that use
 libgc1.
 .
 Since the collector does not require pointers to be tagged, it does
 not attempt to ensure that all inaccessible storage is reclaimed.
 However it has typically been more successful at reclaiming unused
 memory than most C programs using explicit deallocation. Unlike
 manually introduced leaks, the amount of unreclaimed memory typically
 stays bounded.
 .
 This version of the collector is thread safe, has C++ support, and uses the
 defaults for everything else. Particularly, it does not work as a malloc()
 replacement.

Bug#518405: rkhunter: Rkhunter complains about comment in

2009-08-11 Thread Bernd 'Siggy' Brentrup
Hi,

when looking into this bug I noticed you mention a bogus test:

permitrootlogin=`cat ${I}/sshd_config | grep PermitRootLogin | grep -v #`

Try the following:
% grep PermitRootLogin | grep -v '#' EOF
PermitRootLogin no
# PermitRootLogin yes
PermitRootLogin yes # Allow root to login remotely
EOF
PermitRootLogin no
%

IIRC sshd uses the last occurrence of an option if it is given
multiple times.

I'd suggest you change your test to
% (cut -d'#' -f 1 | grep PermitRootLogin) EOF
PermitRootLogin no
# PermitRootLogin yes
PermitRootLogin yes # Allow root to login remotely
EOF
PermitRootLogin no
PermitRootLogin yes
%

Thanks
  Siggy

ps: I didn't read rkhunter code, judging only from your sample.

Bug#338867: abcm2ps: unexpected result with K:D =c

2009-08-11 Thread Anselm Lingnau
Hi Bart --

Sorry for sitting on this bug for so long. It seems that in the meantime the
consensus within the ABC community has changed such that »K:D =c« no longer
means »two sharps and then a natural sign before every c« but instead means »a
sharp sign on the f line and a natural sign in the c space«. For example, the
draft ABC music standard 2.0 says in section 3.1.14 (»K: - key«):

  Likewise, K:D maj =c or K:D =c will give a key signature with f sharp and
  c natural.

The current version of abcm2ps implements this correctly, so I'm closing the
bug report.

Thanks for calling it in, anyway!

Anselm

I don't use it presently. It is fairly unlikely I will in

Oh, ye olde days !

Well, this laptop's been apt-get upgraded over the years all
the way from Sarge, I think (I never did anything weird to
it, though). It was usually running Testing being upgraded a
few weeks after each Stable got released. So this file may
well have been left over at one stage or another.

 This file can be deleted completely. Its an heritage from kernels
 2.6.6.

Done. Makes no difference (as can be expected).

 Could you please rmmod snd_intel8x0m and test again.

That's the best solution.

FYI, I had similar problems when I did the lzip MacPorts port under

these utilities from his software and write a zutils package, that
would could support various compression formats. Other compression
software (such as gzip) should also drop them, in favor of zutils.

Here's the Zutils page from Antonio:

Zutils 0.1 is currently a preliminary version and doesn't support xz

Bug#539480: lists.debian.org: Proposed anti-spam measure

tag 539480 wontfix

Eugene Gorodinsky schrieb am Saturday, den 01. August 2009:

 Package: lists.debian.org

 As I understand there is a decision to keep the debian list open to all.

 This results in having to deal with a lot of spam emails. My
 suggestion is to have a list of authenticated senders and
 non-authenticated senders. Upon sending a message to the list, a
 non-authenticated sender will have an e-mail sent back to her with a
 request to confirm that the email was indeed sent from the address
 specified in its header and by a person (spammers use automation
 software and fake email addresses, so most of the spam messages won't
 be confirmed). The system could require the user to send another
 email, with an automatically generated confirmation code, to confirm
 that she sent the first email. Upon receiving the confirmation email,
 the original email will be published on the list. Additionally the
 non-authenticated sender may be added to the authenticated senders
 list. Any person who subscribes to the list will automatically be
 added to the list of authenticated senders.
Any kind of challenge response system is a no-go. I have seen to many of them
misused for denial of service attacks (spam senders are usally forged), also
having two challenge response systems playing ping-pong is really great.

Also its a general policy that our mailinglists are open.

So unfortunaly I have to tag your request wontfix.

Thanks

 this message continues to appear in log file. ejabberd seems working
 fine, except the functions, that depend on the backend, that uses
 postgresql.

 My ejabberd.cfg:
 taiga:~# cat /etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.cfg| grep -v '%%'| grep -v '^$'
 {odbc_server, {pgsql, 172.16.116.12, ejabberd, postgres, xxx}}.
 {pgsql_users_number_estimate, true}.
 {odbc_pool_size, 10}.
 {odbc_keepalive_interval, undefined}.
 [...]
 i read different erlang manuals and got, that you need
 pgsql.beam
 pgsql_proto.beam
 pgsql_tcp.beam
 pgsql_util.beam

 files somewhere in your ebin path.

   Almost. There is also a different posibility, which I use personally to
 make ejabberd work with postgres: odbc. These are the settings I am
 using for this:

 #v+
 {odbc_server, DSN=PSQLejabberd;UID=ejabberd;PWD=YouWish}.
 [...]
 {modules,
[...]
{mod_last_odbc,[]},
[...]
{mod_offline_odbc,[]},
[...]
{mod_roster_odbc,[]},
[...]
{mod_vcard_odbc,[]},
[...]
 ]}.
 #v-

   And of course it needs the packages unixodbc and odbc-postgresql
 installed and the following parts in /etc/odbc.ini and
 /etc/odbcinst.ini:

 #v+
 [PSQLejabberd]
 Description = PostgreSQL
 Driver  = PostgreSQL Unicode
 Trace   = No
 TraceFile   = /tmp/psqlodbc.log
 Database= ejabberd
 Servername  = localhost
 UserName=
 Password=
 Port=
 ReadOnly= No
 RowVersioning   = No
 ShowSystemTables= No
 ShowOidColumn   = No
 FakeOidIndex= No
 ConnSettings=
 #v-

 #v+
 [PostgreSQL Unicode]
 Description = PostgreSQL ODBC driver (Unicode version)
 Driver  = /usr/lib/odbc/psqlodbcw.so
 Setup   = /usr/lib/odbc/libodbcpsqlS.so
 Debug   = 0
 CommLog = 1
 UsageCount  = 1

   So long. :)
 Rhonda

Hi, thanks for your reply.

Well, i know about the odbc framework...
I still think, that something should me done, because the debian user,
who installed a ejabberd
packeage is misinformed.
If you want to use it with pgsql you probably go to config and search
for pgsql or postgres there. And use see:

%%
%% PostgreSQL server:
%%
%%{odbc_server, {pgsql, server, database, username, password}}.
%%
%% If you want to specify the port:
%%{odbc_server, {pgsql, server, 1234, database, username,
password}}.

Of course if you never install ejabberd manually you'll think it's all
you have to do to connect
ejabberd to your pgsql server.
So, my opinion is that you have do one of the following:
- add a comment to ejabberd.cfg, saying that debian ejabberd package
works with sql only throw odbc
- rebuild ejabberd so, that it couldn't use native mode at all
- add a package with erlang-pgsql and erlang-mysql (with *sql dependencies)
(of course i'd prefere adding a package with erlang-pgsql :-) )

otherwise user is misinformed why his ejabberd doesn't work properly.
i only figured it out with the help of my comrade, who uses freebsd, and
therefor knows
what you need to compile to make ejd working.
this is russian linux comunity forum:
http://linuxforum.ru/index.php?showtopic=88957
where i started to solve the problem. people there use native postgres mode.

thank you.

Bug#541024: FTBFS: build-dep on gone libmysqlclient15-dev package

2009-08-11 Thread Riku Voipio
Package: akonadi
Version: 1.2.0-1

Since version 5.1.37-1, libmysqlclient15-dev is gone. The package still
exists in the archive, but is uninstallable. Any package still build-depending
on libmysqlclient15-dev will FTBFS. This is filed against akonadi, since it
is blocking a bunch of other (kde) packages from building, and thus would
profit more from a urgent fix. But I'm sure there are other packages still
build-depenging on libmysqlclient15-dev too.. From the build logs:

Installing positive dependencies: cdbs debhelper cmake automoc quilt

Bug#539541: FTBFS with GCC 4.4: missing #include

 MM == Martin Michlmayr t...@cyrius.com writes:

MM Your package fails to build with GCC 4.4, which has cleaned up
MM some more C++ headers. You always have to #include headers
MM directly and cannot rely for things to be included indirectly.

MM You can reproduce this problem with gcc-4.4/g++-4.4 from
MM unstable.

This has already been reported upstream by another user, so I expect the
upcoming upstream release will fix it.

Thanks for the report.

Bug#540961: xulrunner: CVE-2009-2663 vulnerability

 Hi,
 the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities Exposures) id was
 published for xulrunner.

 CVE-2009-2663[0]:
 | libvorbis before r16182, as used in Mozilla Firefox before 3.0.13 and
 | 3.5.x before 3.5.2 and other products, allows context-dependent
 | attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption and
 | application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted
 | .ogg file.

 This does not affect versions 1.9.0.12 and earlier, so no updates
 are needed for the stable releases.

The summary you pasted suggest that before 3.0.13 is affected, which
would mean that xul 1.9.0.12 would be affected too; but OTOH, 1.9
branch didnt have any libvorbis/codec support afaik. So this feels
like a typo in the CVE. Anyway. xul should probably be updated to .13
anyway in stable.

Bug#536576: [reportbug]: debsums: can't open $PACKAGE file ... (Permission denied)

2009-08-11 Thread Sandro Tosi

 block -1 by 536576
 retitle -1 reportbug: pass --ignore-permissions (once available) to debsums

 I don't want to make this change,

strange...

 failing to open files *should* fail

what does this error say to the user running debsums?

- is it ok that the file can't be read?
- is it a problem?
- is the file there but it's the directory (tree) that can't be accessed?
- the file is there, and I can't ready (because I don't have
permissions), that's ok, but is the file corrupted or not?

I can live with it, can the normal user do the same? I doubt it. You
should really start thinking about users instead of lines of code to
write.

 and result in a !0 return code,

the same return code of all other errors?

 so I will add an option
 --ignore-permissions for reportbug to use.

This is a workaround, not a fix. If I can't access a file I can's say
*anything* about it's corruption or not, so _at the very least_ you
should say:

I can't access ... because of missing permission, so I can't check
if the file is corrupted or not.

that's what a user wants to hear.

Bug#322567: reportbug: [improve checking] the following files appear to be missing or changed

Hello Ryan,

On Mon, Aug 3, 2009 at 02:45, Ryan Nieburryanrya...@gmail.com wrote:
 Hi!

 the debsums output already makes clear what the problem is.

did you actually read the bug report? if so, could you please explain
what it's made clear in this output:

Getting status for mon...
Verifying package integrity...
There may be a problem with your installation of mon;
the following files appear to be missing or changed:
debsums: checksum mismatch mon file /usr/share/doc/mon/examples/mon.cf.gz

What is the problem? is the file missing? is the file changed? or removed?

 how about changing this message (in reportbug):

 the following files appear to be missing or changed:

 to:

 debsums found the following problems with files installed from $PACKAGE:

if you clearly state what the problem is; for example

debsums: missing file ...
debsums: changed file ...

etc.

 so that debsums can be more clear.

that's of course welcome.

 I don't see the need to complicate the
 return codes just for the purpose of user output.

what? complicate the return codes?

maybe because it's the UNIX standard way to differentiate programs errors?

There is not only 0 and 1/-1 , there are plenty if examples out there.

 I do still think
 that this buglet should be fixed and I think we can come to a
 solution that works for everybody.

I proposed something, you just pushed that back. Now, how do you want
to address this bug (clear examples please)?

Bug#518405: rkhunter: Rkhunter complains about comment in

 Hi,

 when looking into this bug I noticed you mention a bogus test:

 permitrootlogin=`cat ${I}/sshd_config | grep PermitRootLogin | grep -v #`

 Try the following:
 % grep PermitRootLogin | grep -v '#' EOF
 PermitRootLogin no
 # PermitRootLogin yes
 PermitRootLogin yes # Allow root to login remotely
 EOF
 PermitRootLogin no
 %

 IIRC sshd uses the last occurrence of an option if it is given
 multiple times.

 I'd suggest you change your test to
 % (cut -d'#' -f 1 | grep PermitRootLogin) EOF
 PermitRootLogin no
 # PermitRootLogin yes
 PermitRootLogin yes # Allow root to login remotely
 EOF
 PermitRootLogin no
 PermitRootLogin yes
 %

You are right, and this was already fixed in the latest release.
The code is now:
grep -i '^PermitRootLogin[   =]' ${SSH_CONFIG_FILE} | tail -1

Which detects the last option only.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#541032: assertion failed: store_client.cc:430: STORE_DISK_CLIENT == getType()

2009-08-11 Thread axe
Package: squid3

Hi,

as specified in Subject I get following error in cache.log:
2009/08/11 06:54:31| assertion failed: store_client.cc:430:
STORE_DISK_CLIENT == getType()
2009/08/11 06:54:35| Starting Squid Cache version 3.0.STABLE8 for

Asking on the Squid User mailinglist I found out, that this bug has been
fixed in 3.0.STABLE18.

See this bug:
http://www.squid-cache.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=2155

Is a bugfix possible?
As explained in the bug my Squid crashes also a couple times per day (which
is critical).

Thank you,
Thomas Jackowski

Bug#518511: Patch for the crash

2009-08-11 Thread Andrea Iacovitti
Hi,
i tested the patch and it works even for me: krfb doesn't crash anymore on
client disconnect, thanks!

Moreover i had another problem (don't know if i am the only one given that i
haven't see any related bug report...) :
I run krfb on a Debian Lenny amd64 dual core system; connecting from another
pc with krdc client, krfb deny the connection saying the password is wrong
(while i'm 100% sure the password is correct).
Well, after verified that using krfb version 4:3.5.7-4~bpo40+1 (from
etch-backports: install just fine on Lenny) i'm able to connect, i go through
the kfrb source code and found the only differences between 3.5.7 and 3.5.10
was upstream revision 794662:
http://websvn.kde.org/?view=revrevision=794662 .
Then i reverted r794662 and the above problem on kfrb 3.5.10 has gone.

Just my two cents,
Andrea.

PS.
thanks again for the patch.

Bug#421524: ignore parameter seems not to work

2009-08-11 Thread Andreas Unterkircher

Hello,

I have the same problems here on machines having a fullfeed
of Internet routes (~290k).

But the suggest -I parameter seems not to work with 5.2.3-7etch4.

I tried

/usr/sbin/snmpd -f -Lsd -Lf /dev/null \
 -u snmp -I -var_route -p /var/run/snmpd.pid

as well as

/usr/sbin/snmpd -f -Lsd -Lf /dev/null \
 -u snmp -I -var_route,ipCidrRouteTable,inetCidrRouteTable \
 -p /var/run/snmpd.pid

But in both cases snmpd still locks up for a while at 100% CPU usage.

Regards,
Andreas

  Okay, no problem. I was just checking some RC buggy packages. As long as
  the package is fit for Lenny release this shouldn't be a problem.

 That was over a year ago now, and the mentioned upload never
 materialised. In fact, the only uploads since (including the version
 that made it into Lenny) have been a couple of NMUs. It's also the only
 package still blocking the transition of nautlius-cd-burner to testing.

Since the quoting is less than clear to me let me just state that I was the one
sending the bug report but am not related to the package. Any yes, I second the
idea of removing the package.

Bug#539176: Please special-case the kernel so that all bug reports are filed against the source package

 Hi,

  The linux-2.6 source package is a bit special in comparison to other
  packages
  because the names of the binary packages change frequently (every 2-3
  months with
  the release of a new kernel version). Currently, most bugs are reassigned
  manually to the linux-2.6 source package. It would be nice if all bugs
  filed
  against the kernel in reportbug were always directed towards the linux-2.6
  source package.

 Of course we'd be more than happy to help you with this, but I got
 some thoughts:

 - wouldn't you lost the information about what kernel the bug is
 about? It's true that in the Sys info below we got:

  Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core)

 but that's the running kernel. What if a user want to report a bug
 against another version of the kernel (for example that can't boot)
 than the one running? How do you manage this?

 That's usually mentioned in the bug report itself. It's quite a
 cornercase and I think we can ignore it.

ok then

 - would you please be so kind to provide us the stricter regular
 expression to match a binary kernel package? :) this way we can match
 the current bin package name against the regex and do the voodoo magic
 to force the report against linux-2.6 (yeah, this also means that if
 you change the binary name structure, you should communicate us back
 the new regexp). I could write myself, but I think that you would end
 up with a much better one ;)

 The following matches should be safe:

 linux-doc-2.6*
 linux-headers-2.6*
 linux-image-2.6*
 linux-libc-dev
 linux-manual-2.6*
 linux-patch-debian-2.6*
 linux-source-2.6*
 linux-support-2.6*
 linux-tree-2.6*

Oh, only now I think of it: does all those bin packages come from
linux-2.6 source package? if so, I think we can check if the source
package is 'linux-2.6' and force to assign all bugs for its bin pkgs
to it.

What do you think?

 The kernel developers have mentioned that they don't intend to change
 the kernel versioning scheme in the foreseeable future and by current
 development speed it'll take 17 years until 2.6.100 is released :-)

eheh :)

I maintained at in early 2000 and even then was discussing with Joey

at, iirc I was somewhere near completion when a paid job stopped
my work on OSS stuff for some time.

The package seems to have collected bugs over the years (59!) making
me think of skimming over some old tapes for my code and finish the
rewrite.

But, as I already told you on another thread, I won't contribute
substantially to Debian without having a vote (nagged DAM on sunday).

 Hi James,

 While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a possible
 candidate for removal from Debian, because:

  * No upload since 2006

No changes upstream since 2006, no bugs filed to fix.

  * Low popcon
  * Better (at least, more used) alternative available: libgfshare-bin

That's true.

I'm not particularly attached to the package, but I'm not sure about
removing it. Allow me to ponder it for a while.

I'm happy to have the package fall out of testing while I decide though,
so I'm leaving the bug as it is.

Thanks,

James

2009-08-11 Thread Adrian von Bidder
Heyho!

Just saw that upgrading python-turbojson from 1.2.1-2 to 1.2.1-4, which
pulled in python-peak.util 20090610-2 and python-peak.rules 0.5a1+r2600-1,
fixed this, paster tginfo and paster serve both work now.

First from Flash and from the preferences menu within Explorer NT you neither
should ever debug the BIOS over a Ultra bus, nor must remove a front-side bus
