Bug#560824: ejabberdctl srg_user_add command (provided by mod_admin_extra) fails most of the time

2009-12-15 Thread Rahul Amaram
Reopening the bug. The exact details can be found here:
http://www.ejabberd.im/node/3796 . This is the exact problem:

Let us say there exists a valid SRG 'group1' which has as one of its
displayed groups an entry which is not a SRG. Then adding a user to this
'group1' throws the error as shown below.

$ ejabberdctl srg_user_add 'admin' 'example.net' 'group1' 'example.net'
Problem 'error {case_clause,false}' occurred executing the command.
Stacktrace: [{mod_shared_roster,get_group_users,2},
{mod_shared_roster,push_members_to_user,5},
{mod_shared_roster,'-push_displayed_to_user/5-lc$^0/1-0-',5},
{mod_shared_roster,add_user_to_group,3},
{mod_admin_extra,srg_user_add,4},
{ejabberd_ctl,call_command,3},
{ejabberd_ctl,try_call_command,3},
{ejabberd_ctl,process2,3}]

I am not sure if this could be considered a bug but as far as I remember
this problem did not occur with the previous versions. Also the upstream
author was not able to reproduce this issue which means that this
behaviour could have been because of one of the applied patches.

I have identified the problem. It was a small bug in the script which
I was using to add shared roster groups. This bug may be closed.

I am sorry the bug got submitted before I could give the detailed
report. Anyway, this is the problem.

$ ejabberdctl srg_user_add 'admin' 'example.net' '1' 'example.net'

Kindly note that my ejabberd is patched with gssapi support and uses
ldap authentication with mysql backend. Is there anything which you
can infer immediately from the error message?

Rahul.

Bug#558784: apt: re-adds removed keys

2009-12-15 Thread Tollef Fog Heen

reopen 558784
thanks

]] David Kalnischkies

| While i could agree with you on a (very high) metalevel that this could
| be a valid configuration change, i have a few very simple practical
| reasons why not:
|
| - first of all: /etc/apt/trusted.gpg is not a configuration file
| [in dpkg sense] yes - it looks like one as it is in /etc - and it is in
| some ways a configuration file, but not directly if you compare it to
| "normal" configuration files like xorg.conf.

Yes, it's a configuration file. If it's not, this is an FHS violation
as only configuration files should be in /etc. Dpkg does not have a
concept of configuration files, it has a concept of conffiles which are
shipped in the package. The trusted.gpg file is not a conffile. That
it is not a text file is irrelevant
here. /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt isn't a normal text file you
sit down and configure either.

As to whether it's a valid configuration change: why is it not? Why is
adding more keys to the keyring valid if removing keys is not? Why does
even apt-key provide a «remove» command if that's not a valid change of
configuration?

| - apt depends on debian-archive-keyring. So it explicitly says that it
| requires the complete keyring to work correctly. A administrator who
| removes parts of this keyring therefore doesn't make a valid configuration
| change - he breaks the dependency apt has causing apt to do possibly
| strange things (behavior of applications with broken dependencies is
| undefined) - Including reimporting the keyring to fix it.
| (A segfault would be also possible.)

The dependency isn't broken, I have d-a-k installed on the system, apt
and apt-key can access that keyring just fine, if not apt-key update
would not work.

If an application segfaults because of a missing key in a keyring,
that's surely a bug in the package; this whole argument sounds like a
strawman to me.

| - A keyring is a keyring because the keys together form a ring of trust.
| If you don't trust a key in the ring, you can't trust the keyring
| (if this wouldn't be the case a keyring should be called "loosely coupled
| group of keys"), so if you remove a key you effectively remove the keyring.
| This is disallowed by the dependency (as said in the previous point).

No. GPG has a trust database where I can tell it how much I trust the
various keys. That does not have anything to do with whether they are
in a single file or not.

Bug#561323: python-coherence: Unnecessary dependency on ‘python-nose’

2009-12-15 Thread Ben Finney
Package: python-coherence
Version: 0.6.4-4
Severity: minor

A dependency on ‘python-nose’ was introduced to address Debian
bug#489198. However, the bug was actually caused by an unnecessary
error condition in the absence of that library.

The upstream bug https://coherence.beebits.net/ticket/146> was
fixed, and the code AFAICT no longer causes any problems without the
‘python-nose’ package. The dependency should be removed.

It's 'bad about' this decision, I like esmtp. One advance I see in
esmtp it alows a per-user configuration, which once let me decide for
esmtp instead of ssmtp (see: http://bugs.debian.org/219542 and
http://bugs.debian.org/181315).

Since you are also suspending maintainership of upstream too, this
mean if someone will adopt it probably also should adopt upstream's
development.
I would like to help maintaining esmtp in Debian, in particular from
packaging point of view, but I think taking over development is a task
to high for me.

Many thanks José for all your work you have done in it.

That sounds reasonable and I'm giving it another (additional) shot by
CC'ing debian-mentors. Maybe some of our working and prospective
maintainers is using genparse and willing to keep the package in shape.

2009-12-15 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear Debian translators,

I just announced the intent to build and possibly upload this package
in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all
other pending translations.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs de es fr ja nl pt ru sk sv

Among these, the following translations are incomplete:

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the unixcw package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Tuesday, December
22, 2009. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

Schedule:

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 : send the first intent to upload
Wednesday, December 16, 2009 : send this notice
Tuesday, December 22, 2009 : (midnight) deadline for receiving
translation updates
Wednesday, December 23, 2009 : build the package and upload it
Friday, December 25, 2009 : Christmas (just checking whether
someones reads this and catches the mini-joke)

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Sure. Looks like a good candidate to start a new project with ?
Especially since it contains more than 8 decades of data which can stand of
value even if just archived and maintained.

Probably we just host it on alioth and let interested parties contribute to
and use it.

Any suggestions on a different name ? Or should we just use the old one ?

Is this the hppa FTBFS? It looks like flowcanvas maybe suffering from
the same waf problem:

https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=flowcanvas;ver=0.6.0-1;arch=hppa;stamp=1260741002

Right, in general you shouldn't version build-deps to workaround buggy
versions.

Bug#561305: FTBFS [hppa] - waf hang

2009-12-15 Thread Paul Brossier
Hi,

The FTBFS is introduced with gcc-4.4 and was fixed with flowcanvas
0.6.0, which was recently accepted.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but since the flowcanvas package was recently
added to the archive, tightening the build-dependencies seems like an
overkill.

cheers, piem

Dear Sir,

I reported an issue to the linux kernel for the file :

But as reply they seems that this file is not supported by the developers of

So that's why you receive. Nobody owns this file, but well, ok. Everyone
contributes to linux, and we like linux.

So the issue.
My childrens do not the root password of the machine (luckily otherwise, would

Bug#561261: patch for configurable colours in unicode-screensaver, white-on-black default colours

get_pixel_resource() uses the standard xlib XParseColor()
for parsing colour strings. On a malformed input it
prints an error to the console and uses the defaults, which
seems pretty reasonable to me, since if you're messing
around with that you probably know what you're doing, and it
never crashes.

Here's a patch for a basic GUI configuration. For some
reason there doesn't seem to be a way to put labels on
select boxes, so I've kludged around it by prefixing each
item in the different select boxes with font color: or
background color: to avoid confusion. I also added a "show
fps" checkbox, like many other hacks have.

I do still think that white-on-black is a better default
than black-on-white, but it _is_ your software and you can
do what you like with it, and I'll still use it since I can
configure it. :) The only two places that you should need to
edit to change the default is the selectors in unicode.xml
and the options at the bottom of unicode.c.

cheers,
Christine

Bug#561315: konqueror: Broken interpretation of XML entities beyond BMP

2009-12-15 Thread Matias D'Ambrosio
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:4.3.2-1
Severity: normal
Tags: l10n

Unicode entities with a size of five digits (I only checked those in the
SMP, that is, starting with 1) are not displayed correctly if specified
as XML entities. The last four digits are used to select a character
from the BMP instead, resulting in meaningless text.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Go to http://www.alanwood.net/unicode/egyptian-hieroglyphs.html
2. Instead of hieroglyphs (as should be shown if one had the Aegyptian font
installed), japanese letters and other characters are shown instead.
3. Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kana#Kana_in_Unicode , and compare
the symbols shown in (1) with these, it can be seen that (1)'s 13041
corresponds to (3)'s 3041, 13042 with 3042, etc.
3. Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gothic_alphabet , it can be seen
that gothic letters, which are also in the SMP, are displayed correctly
(compare against the images), by looking at the source it can be seen
that they are not XML entities but rather straight unicode.

This only shows the bug for Egyptian hieroglyphs, but it's probably the
case for all non-BMP code points.

Bug#561312: Provide ri documentation in separate package (e.g., rails-doc)

2009-12-15 Thread Julian Mehnle
Package: rails
Severity: wishlist

Currently the rails package doesn't install ri documentation. Others have
complained (cf. #469524) about the rdoc docs already inflating the rails
package and have requested a separate docs package. I'd be happy if such
a, say, rails-doc package was created, if only to provide the ri docs,
which I'm using all the time. Right now I have to install rails
redundantly as a gem just to get the ri docs. :-(

-Julian

Bug#487380: (no subject)

2009-12-15 Thread J.M.Roth
I've had similar trouble with libnss-mdns.
In my case it was due to the upgrade to Lenny.

Using aptitude, it pulled in recommended packages (not sure whether that
was disabled before, but hey, maybe aptitude's preferences were changed
as it got updated BEFORE the actual upgrade, as recommended by the Lenny
Release Notes).

Unfortunately, sun-java6-jre (mea culpa) recommended libnss-mdns, which
in turn depends on avahi-daemon, so all of that got installed although I
don't it. After removing it, make sure to restart crucial services, or
better yet, reboot the machine to be safe.

The judgment of the platform is difficult in SH.
For example, sh has sh1 sh2 sh3 sh4 sh5, and sh3 sh4 is bi-endian.
When user writes it as sh3el, there is little of sh3. Or there is it
when usr writes it as sh3.
big is sh3eb, and littte is sh3 in many cases.
I become much quantity only in a judgment sentence when I write all these.
Because I was simple and wanted to assume it sh*, I wrote it like a patch.
Of course I understand in the problem that you pointed out.

I write it below, I think that I should be able to support only sh4.
cpu-target of sh4 is sh4 and sh4a now. (There is sh4al, too, but ABI
is different.)
Therefore, I can revise this part as follows.

ifneq (,$(filter sh4 sh4a,$(OS_TEST)))
CPPSRCS:= xptcinvoke_linux_sh.cpp xptcstubs_linux_sh.cpp
endif

Do you think so?

sh3 is not already made by CPU vendor. There are few users having sh5.
I think about support only for sh4.

Yes , both do not have any problem.

What does it have to do with my request?
This non-root user can already cause the same serious consequences
without gparted (e.g. with a simple cat /dev/sdg).
More to the point, the fact that gparted refuses to do its job will just
force this user to either use lower-level tools that are even more
dangerous, or su to root, thus putting the whole system at risk since it
may then end up partitioning the wrong disk.

Tagging it as WONTFIX because we disagree might be OK, but I think
closing this bug is wrong because you did not address the problem.

Please find below a patch to address the issue for the default site,
including the 'all' site (see #513522).
As far as I can see this is not only in etch-backports, but in lenny too.

Choose for yourself whether you would like to do it this way or as in
#513522. I believe this code is clearer, especially in case one would
need to add more exceptions in the future (the if statement in #513522
might become lengthy).

Hi Debbie, first of all, thanks for the patch!

I'm a bit surprised though as I don't find a Ubuntu version where this
patch is applied. I also work very closely with Martin Pitt usually who
has been responsible for this package in Ubuntu and we share the same
Git repository so I would have expected that he commits this patch there
right away.

CCing Martin, just in case (but I think you already get a copy?)

Bug#561310: nmu: xml-security-c_1.5.1-2

2009-12-15 Thread Russ Allbery
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: binnmu

Hello folks,

Xerces-C 3.1 was recently uploaded, and Xerces-C changes its namespace
with each release. This means that libraries built against 3.0 cannot
be mixed with libraries built with 3.1. I uncovered this when preparing
to upload a new xmltooling package built against 3.1, which resulted in
missing symbols from xml-security-c since it was built against 3.0.

Could you rebuild xml-security-c against Xerces-C 3.1? I'll then be
uploading new versions of all of the packages that depend on xml-security-c
(namely the Shibboleth stack), since they all have new upstream releases
anyway.

nmu xml-security-c_1.5.1-2 . ALL . -m "Rebuild against Xerces-C 3.1."

Thanks!

We don't yet have clear permission to distribute this. However, it is
only required for a chip which is newly supported by the r8169 driver in
2.6.32. If the driver worked for you before, it will continue to work
now.

Want to report back that I upgraded some of the dependency libraries, the
backup bookmark problem is fixed. Here is the list of dependency libraries
which I only upgraded a few of them, and the backup bookmark problem is fixed :-

ii debianutils
ii libc6
ii libgcc1
ii libglib2.0-0
ii libgtk2.0-0
ii libnspr4-0d
ii  libstdc++6
ii procps
ii psmisc
ii xulrunner-1.9.1

It seems that iceweasel debian packages dependencies library checking needs
improvement.

nice, four minutes before I asked for such a patch!

It looks good a at a first glance. I’ll have a deeper look tomorrow or
so, add the required GUI options and change the default back to my
choice :-)

Did you test what happens if you pass an illegal string to the color
option?

Installing the new kernel package "linux-image-2.6.32-trunk-amd64"
results in new warning messages like:

It looks like this firmware was removed from the kernel proper as part
of the non-free firmware removal process, which suggests that it should

Bug#561261: patch for configurable colours in unicode-screensaver, white-on-black default colours

2009-12-15 Thread A. Christine Spang
It just so happens that I was trying unicode-screensaver
today and decided that I would much prefer white text on a
black background as opposed to the opposite, though more
from an aesthetic point of view than particularly worrying
about screen burn-in.

I decided to try my hand at hacking up a solution myself.
Please find the attached output of git format-patch, which
can be applied to the current unicode-screensaver trunk via
git am. It changes the default colours to a black background
with a white foreground, but still allows those who prefer
other colorschemes to specify them via the -background and
-foreground options. This is my first time working with xlib
or xscreensaver, so I hope the patch isn't too bad.

One thing I didn't do was hack the xscreensaver config file
that would allow the user to configure the colours via the
xscreensaver-demo gui, but I doubt that doing so would be
too hard.

cheers,
Christine

Subject: [PATCH] customisable colorscheme via -background and -foreground

This commit also changes the default colorscheme from black
text on a white background to white text on a black background,
which is more canonical for a screensaver and potentially better
at avoiding screen burn-in.

The old behaviour can be gotten back by changing the screen hack
command to: unicode -root -background white -foreground black
in the xscreensaver or gnome-screensaver configuration.

thanks for your interest in the package. unicode-screensaver is not a
CRT-saving screen-saver anyways. Even with inverted colors, the static
"U+" in the lower left corner would burn in. But then, this use of a
screen saver is mostly obsolete, IMHO. It is purely meant for
entertainment.

But of course, the request to make the colors configurable is a valid
one. I like it that way, so it’s low priority for me, but I’d happily
accept a patch.

Greetings,
Joachim

file line ending: dos2unix and mac2unix. The text files stored under
Windows and DOS typically have two ASCII characters at the end: the
CR followed by LF code. The Unix and Linux store text files ending
only to LF and older Macs stored the files ending to CR. While modern
editors can read any one of them, there may be need to convert files
 to one format or another.
This is the classic utility developed 1989.

reassign 561289 initramfs-tools
severity 561289 minor
thanks

Hi,

Now, this is partially user error -- they are sing the script
that came with initramfs-tools, which does not work, instead of the
working script provided by kernel-package itself.

This is described in the README, and the man page of make-kpkg
(which mentiontions what needs to be done when using initrds).

I am reassigning as a minor bug since initramfs-tools CVS
apparently has code to support make-kpkg built kernel packages, but it
does not seem to be deploed. Feel free to downgrade/close.

Bug#561303: Depends on python2.4 without good reason

2009-12-15 Thread Jelmer Vernooij
Package: python-subvertpy
Severity: normal

Invoking setup.py seems to rewrite the she-bang line of
bin/subvertpy-fast-export from #!/usr/bin/python to
#!/usr/bin/python2.4, which then causes python-central to add an
explicit dependency on python 2.4.

This strict dependency is undesired, since subvertpy works fine with
other versions of python as well.

Bug#561302: O: esmtp -- User configurable relay-only MTA

2009-12-15 Thread José Fonseca
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the esmtp package.

The package description is:
ESMTP is a user configurable relay-only Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) with a
sendmail-compatible syntax. It's based on libESMTP supporting the AUTH
(including the CRAM-MD5 and NTLM SASL mechanisms) and the StartTLS SMTP
 extensions.
 .
ESMTP does not receive mail, expand aliases or manage a queue but can deliver
 mail locally via an MDA.
 .
This package contains the esmtp program.

I'm also the upstream developer and I'm suspending maintainership there
too.

There are other more popular alternatives like ssmtp. At the time I
wrote esmtp ssmtp didn't work for me, and I had spare time on my hands.
Now it is quite the opposite, and it's not worth to put any more time
maintaining these.

I am backporting latest atlas to testing.
Build completes without error, however install creates an
empty /etc/ld.so.conf.d/atlas.conf. Atlas is then not in linker cache
and all dependent packages fail.

Manually inserting appropriate path plus running ldconfig
resolves issues.
Since no package explicitly owns /etc/ld.so.conf.d/atlas.conf i am
guessing this is an install script bug.

Bug#561300: devicekit-power: can_hibernate property should be false when no swap exists

2009-12-15 Thread Debbie Beliveau
Package: devicekit-power
Version: 011-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu karmic ubuntu-patch

dkp_client_can_hibernate can return true even if the machine has no swap
partition. When determining the value of its can_hibernate property,
devicekit-power checks if the kernel supports hibernate and whether there is
enough swap space available to perform a hibernate. However, it does not seem
to account for the possibility that a machine may not have a swap partition
even though its kernel supports it. In this case, devicekit-power detects that
the kernel supports hibernate and treats the swap space as completely available
(therefore dkp_client_can_hibernate returns true). The attached patch modifies
devicekit-power to first check if a swap partition exists before calculating
how much is available.

*** /tmp/tmpXwgupz
In Ubuntu, we've applied the attached patch to achieve the following:

  * 05_no_swap_no_hibernate.patch: Have dkp_daemon_check_swap function 1st
check if swap exists before determining how much is free

We thought you might be interested in doing the same.

Bug#561298: debootstrap: download_main fails to iterate through components

2009-12-15 Thread Andres Salomon
Package: debootstrap
Version: 1.0.20
Tags: patch

There's a bug in the following code in download_main. I've left
comments in the code below describing it:

# Let's assume $p contains 'coreutils' for this explanation..
# $COMPONENTS contains at least 2 entries (ie, "foo bar")
for c in $COMPONENTS; do
local details=""
# $details contains ""
for m in $MIRRORS; do
local path="dists/$SUITE/$c/binary-$ARCH/Packages"
local pkgdest="$TARGET/$($DLDEST pkg "$SUITE" "$c"
"$ARCH" "$m" "$path")"
if [ ! -e "$pkgdest" ]; then continue; fi
details="$($PKGDETAILS PKGS "$m" "$pkgdest" "$p")"
# $details contains "coreutils -" if the package wasn't found in component
'foo'.
if [ "$details" = "$p -" ]; then continue; fi
# Assuming only 1 entry in $MIRRORS, break out of the loop..
...
done
# At this point, $details contains "coreutils -"
if [ "$details" != "" ]; then
break
# Whoops, coreutils wasn't actually found in 'foo'; it's actually in 'bar'.
# But since $details contains something other than "", we break out of
# the $COMPONENTS loop! Debootstrap then fails, because coreutils couldn't
# be downloaded.
fi
done

This bug is only triggered when you have multiple COMPONENTS, which is
presumably why no one else has hit this (see bug #561283, which allows
usage of multiple components w/ mirror_style main).

The patch below fixes this issue.

Bug#536245: ITA: graphviz -- rich set of graph drawing tools

2009-12-15 Thread David Claughton
retitle 536245 ITA: graphviz -- rich set of graph drawing tools
owner 536245 !
thanks

Hi,

At this point, I would like to formalize my intention to adopt graphviz.
In addition to myself I have been in discussion with Christoph Egger
and Sebastian Harl who have agreed to join me as co-maintainers.

Also, FYI, I have now committed my 2.24 packaging work to the git repo
on collab-maint. In order to avoid stepping on anyone's toes WRT the
current QA work, I've created a separate branch 'dev-2.24' for this.
The current plan is to merge this into 'unstable' when it is ready for
release and to leave 'unstable' for any 2.20 changes that may be
required in the meantime.

Cheers,

David.

Bug#561294: core.img is unusually large, grub-pc fails to install grub mbr.

2009-12-15 Thread Thomas Fjellstrom
Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.97+experimental.20091213-1
Severity: important

I get the following warning and error when I attempt to install or update grub:

/usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Your core.img is unusually large. It won't fit in
the embedding area.
/usr/sbin/grub-setup: error: Embedding is not possible, but this is required
when the root device is on a RAID array or LVM volume.

my / (root, boot) partition is a lvm volume, as is my swap. When I first
installed the OS (debian sid) a month and a half ago, everything including
grub-pc installed. And the machine would boot, albeit with grub taking several
seconds to actually show the boot menu (it would briefly flash to the grub
rescue cli).

sdf and sdg both have a single dos/pc style partition which are combined into
a md-raid1 volume, which is "exported" as a LVM2 volume group, which is where
/, /home, and swap live (as well as several KVM vm volumes).

I hessitate to reboot this machine as it hosts my firewall, a couple public
websites, and asterisk to handle my home phone. If grub failed, it would take
all my services down, including my internet for an unknown length of time.

The rest of the disks are unrelated, and make up a 5x1TB raid5 volume.

I asked about this on #g...@irc.freenode.net and one person said it might
be related to compiler options used, which bloat the size of the grub driver
modules.

Hi,

This error is coming from /etc/kernel/postrm.d/initramfs-tools,
which seems to be looking for a /boot/bzImage-2.6.32 for some
reason. The fix probably lies in the initramfs-tools script, so
 reassigning.

Bug#560738: make-kpkg: should install architecture-dependant headers

2009-12-15 Thread Manoj Srivastava
severity 560738 minor
thanks

Hi,

Cross compiling kernel-headers is a pretty esoteric use
case. The usual workaround is to just keep the surces around, and
cross compile the modules based on the built sources, not on kernel
headers. Minor bug since either this should be supported or the lack of
 support documented.

After reporting this to Debian and engaging on follow-up discussion, it turns
out that bcp copies the data if the ioctl() call to clone the file fails, as
can be seen from the Python code (which I should have read, but didn't...).

Unfortunately the ioctl() call is failing both in bcp and in cp --reflink.

Here's partial strace output from the latter.

cp --reflink testfile testfile2

open("testfile", O_RDONLY) = 3
fstat(3, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=0, ...}) = 0
open("testfile2", O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_EXCL, 0644) = 4
fstat(4, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=0, ...}) = 0
ioctl(4, 0x40049409, 0x3) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument)

Kernel 2.6.32 (debian Sid), x86-64 architecture.

Suggestions welcome.

The config of the D-I kernel is identical to the config of the
corresponding kernel on installed systems, or else it is available from
the corresponding linux-image package. For reasons of size and memory
usage including the file will not be included in images.

Bug#558406: gnome-keyring-daemon doesn't work on GNU/kFreeBSD

2009-12-15 Thread Emmanuel Bouthenot
reopen 558406
thanks

Hi,

Sorry to reopen the bug, but the first patch was not the good one and
it doesn't fix the bug at all.

Attached is a patch which definitely fix this bug.

I'm also CC-ing the debian-bsd@ list. Even if the patch fix the bug,
i'm not really statisfied. I suspect a deeper problem on how socket
credentials should work on kFreeBSD.

from egg/egg-unix-credentials.c

--8<- line 100 -
#if defined(HAVE_CMSGCRED) || defined(LOCAL_CREDS)
if (cmsg.hdr.cmsg_len < CMSG_LEN (sizeof *cred) ||
   cmsg.hdr.cmsg_type != SCM_CREDS) {
fprintf (stderr, "message from recvmsg() was not\n");
return -1;
}
#endif

=> always return -1
>8--

If the previous test is disabled then if fails on:

--8<- line 122 -
#elif defined(HAVE_CMSGCRED)
  cred = (struct cmsgcred *) CMSG_DATA (&cmsg.hdr);
  *pid = cred->cmcred_pid;
  *uid = cred->cmcred_euid;
#elif defined(LOCAL_CREDS)

=> uid is always 0, it should be the user id (eg. >= 1000)
>8--

The fact that the source code builds fine and
HAVE_CMSGCRED/LOCAL_CREDS are defined makes me feel that something is
weird.

I will be glad to get debian-bsd@ folks opinions on it.

Regards,

That's right. The files that require a newer dpkg are the
{early,later}-readahead init scripts (they are both generated from a
single file in the source package) and the daily cronjob.

There's no real reason to use s-s-d on the daily cronjob, as /usr is
already mounted, so I could simply make that change directly on the
package. Feel free to file a wish.

Cheers,

Bug#561225: coreutils: cp --reflink fails with Btrfs file system

2009-12-15 Thread Jason White
Jim Meyering wrote:

It opens both files and then performs the ioctl() call:
ioctl(4, 0x40049409, 0x3) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument)

>
> Even better, can you do that using stock upstream coreutils-8.2,

This may not be necessary. If I run strace on bcp, it turns out that its
ioctl() call encounters the same error:

ioctl(3, 0x40049409, 0x4) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument)
and thus the suggestion that bcp (by behaving like --reflink=auto) is masking
the issue appears to be exactly on point.

Bug#561276: geany does not escape '\\' in replace string

I could not reproduce this. Could you please give a step by step example of
what you did to trigger it?

I used a text file with (created with echo 'try to replace me \t' >test_file):

try to replace me \t

And replaced "me" with \t, if "Use escape sequences" was not checked it
inserted a literal \t, else it inserted a tab. Using \\t and "Use escape
sequences" it inserted the literal \t else it inserted the literal \\t.

I even tried replacing the literal \t in the file using \t and no "Use escape
sequences", and \\t and "Use escape sequences".

Everything worked as expected, so the exact case you are seeing might be
necessary to reproduce this?

Thanks for your report and I hope you have time to lend another hand on this.

  Damián.

Bug#561293: emacs23: misc-fixed font looks strange

2009-12-15 Thread Boris Hollas

Package: emacs23
Version: 23.1+1-4
Severity: normal

I use -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal-*-*-120-*-*-c-*-iso8859-15 as default
font for emacs. If I type $a_1^2$ in latex mode, numbers 1 and 2 appear in
a font that looks very ugly. Normally, emacs uses a smaller font for sub-
and superscripts in latex mode. The same is true for font
-misc-fixed-*-*-*-*-16-*-*-*-c-*-iso8859-15.
Also, if I use the font,
-misc-fixed-medium-r-normal-*-*-100-*-*-c-*-iso8859-15, the font shown in
emacs is quite ugly.

I removed /etc/fonts/conf.d/70-no-bitmaps.conf and fc-cache -f to enable
bitmap fonts. Apart from this, my font configuration is unaltered from the
default Xorg install.

These problems are not present on FreeBSD 7.2.

Fixing this will involve:

  1) teaching cdebconf to handle the "escape" capability, as implemented
  in debconf;

  2) teaching debconf-set to use it.

As it stands, shoving data that contains newlines through debconf-set
breaks the debconf protocol, since the data after the newline is
interpreted as a new command.

Gary,

I just came across the same problem today. It appears to be a feature in
the firmware of

the drive. Here's a link I found about disabling it.

  http://www.msfn.org/board/lg-gh22ns50-bluebirds-removal-tool-t135300.html

Unfortunately the fix is for a Windows system so I haven't tried it
since mine is Linux.

My mistake; "Use regular expressions" needs to be on.

In "try to replace me with \t", with Find = "me":

Replace = "\t" replaces "me" with a tab
Replace = "\\t" replaces "me" with a backslash followed by a tab
Replace = "\\\t" replaces "me" with two backslashes followed by a tab

The correct behaviour (iirc) is to escape "\\" into "\"; so that:

Replace = "\t" replaces "me" with a tab
Replace = "\\t" replaces "me" with the literal string "\t"
Replace = "\\\t" replaces "me" with a backslash followed by a tab

Bug#561290: gxmms2: dragging multiple files in the playlist editor randomizes their order

2009-12-15 Thread Friedrich Delgado Friedrichs
Package: gxmms2
Version: 0.7.0+git20090608-2
Severity: normal

Reproduce:

 - Click on icon with tooltip "Open playlist editor"
 - open tab "Playlist"
 - click on one file
 - hold shift
 - click on another file and hold mouse button 1
 - drag group of files and drop (release mouse button 1) at new position

the result is a jumble.

Expectation:
 - insert the group files in the place where they were dropped
 - insert them in the order they previously had

Bug#561289: kernel-package: initramfs-tools not called after install, though run-parts tries to

2009-12-15 Thread Edouard Gomez
Package: kernel-package
Version: 12.031
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Trying to install a Linux kernel built with kernel-kpkg won't
result in a bootable kernel after reboot.

This is a typical output from a succeeded install:
$ LC_ALL=C sudo dpkg -i linux-image-2.6.32_2_amd64.deb
(Reading database ... 121446 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace linux-image-2.6.32 2 (using
linux-image-2.6.32_2_amd64.deb) ...
The directory /lib/modules/2.6.32 still exists. Continuing as directed.
Examining /etc/kernel/preinst.d/
Done.
Unpacking replacement linux-image-2.6.32 ...
Examining /etc/kernel/postrm.d .
run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postrm.d/initramfs-tools 2.6.32
/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32
Setting up linux-image-2.6.32 (2) ...
Running depmod.
Examining /etc/kernel/postinst.d.
run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools 2.6.32
/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32
run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postinst.d/pm-utils 2.6.32 /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32

The tricky part is that /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools
decides to do nothing when getting 2 args.

Moreover, no bootloader update script is executed.

Looking at kernel-img.conf(5) and kernel-pkg.conf(5) does describe
good old posthooks to call update-grub, but they're marked as
obsolete.

Am I missing some stuff that changed in the last packages ?

PS: i use kernel-kpkg since a long long long time, 2.6.18
maybe so I cleaned up kernel-img.conf so that it doesn't
use old variables anymore, nor obsolete vars. But this makes
it nearly impossible to get a booting kernel.

Bug#561288: davical: PAM auth: full name extraction is too generous

2009-12-15 Thread gregor herrmann
Package: davical
Version: 0.9.7.6-0
Severity: minor

Hi Andrew,

when adding a user from the pam db the full name gets extracted in
drivers_squid_pam.php with:
$fullname = trim( exec("getent passwd | grep ^" . $username ." | cut -d \":\"
-f5"), ' ,' );

When the fields in /etc/password contain a phone number this leads to
a nice full name like:

gre...@colleen:~$ getent passwd | grep ^gregoa | cut -d: -f5
gregor herrmann,,,+43 123 4567890

which is probaly not intended :)

Sorry for the missing patch & cheers,
gregor

2009-12-15 Thread Edouard Gomez
Package: kernel-package

The error comes frfom the fact the .deb still ships a vmlinuz-2.6.32 file, but
no
bzImage-2.6.32 file. I find myself editing the postinst script in the
/var/lib/dpkg/infos/linux-image${kernel version}.postinst

my $kimage = "bzImage"; # Should be empty, mostly
with
my $kimage = "vmlinuz"; # Should be empty, mostly

then i must issue this command:
$ sudo apt-get -f install

So that postinst is executed and gets the name correctly guessed.

The kernel has been built as follows:
$ hg clone http://kernel.org/hg/linux-2.6
$ cd linux-2.6
$ hg up -C v2.6.32
$ cp $data/linux-2.6.32.config .config

Overwritten the "old" udev.conf with the new one just extract and:

Can be? I only do those pass!
Like now and after a lot of tries, I cannot reproduce the problem :(

Bug#561036: installation-reports: Debian-Installer for PPC (daily-netinst 20091210) lacks support for powerbook5, 6 internal keyboard

If you can tell us exactly what is needed to support the internal
keyboard

(some kernel module probably?), we'll be happy to include it.

Does the installed system support the internal keyboard? If it
does, then a

start could be to compare the module list and/or the syslog from the
installer and the installed system.
You can find logs from the installation in /var/log/installer.

(We cannot do this ourselves as it's likely nobody active on the D-
I team

has the hardware.)

Cheers,
FJP

In the installed system the internal keyboard is properly supported.
After comparing installer-lsmod und lsmod of installed system it
looks like

the missing kernel-module is 'hid_apple'.

See the attached 'diff -y installer.lsmod running.lsmod'.

(it also would be a nice-to-have if the d-i team includes the .config
of the
kernel used in d-i in the .iso - could help to reproduce/research
such failures)

Bug#561279: segfault on "udevadm info"

This is weird, because not much happens after printing the message:

help(udev, argc, argv);
udev_selinux_exit(udev);
udev_unref(udev);
udev_log_close();

What happens if you do not modify the default udev.conf?

Please manually build the package, run the udevadm binary from the build
directory in gdb and get a stack trace with "where".

Bug#561283: debootstrap: honor --components when using mirror_style 'main'

2009-12-15 Thread Andres Salomon
Package: debootstrap
Version: 1.0.20
Tags: patch

I have a mirror that requires mirror_style 'main' (because the top-level
Release file lacks an md5sum list for Packages). However, when using
a mirror_style of 'main', the COMPONENTS list is hardcoded to 'main'.
This is fine if we're not specifying a component list via command
line. However, if we're passing debootstrap --components=foo,bar,baz,
it should really be attempting to use those components.

This patch updates download_main_indices to respect --components.

Bug#561282: gnome-session can not start gnome-wm

2009-12-15 Thread Petri Kaurinkoski

Package: gnome-session-bin
Version: 2.28.0-4
Severity: important
File: /usr/bin/gnome-session

I updated my Debian/testing as I normally do a week ago and among other
things a new version of gnome-session-bin was installed. After the
update, I
realized that the window-manager is not started normally anymore.
Now all
windows I open by clicking launchers in the gnome-panel are started
without

normal window frames and I can not move them on the desktop. The system
becomes, well, not unusable, but very hard to use, and definitely not
normally usable.

I do understand that this may be directed towards the wrong package,
but I

am sure you can easily reallocate this report appropriately.

The first few lines from .xsession-errors are:

gnome-session[3319]: WARNING: Unable to find provider 'gnome-wm' of
required component 'windowmanager'

GNOME_KEYRING_SOCKET=/tmp/keyring-oQDCaE/socket

I do not know if any other than the first line are relevant to this
problem, but they might so they are here.

Could you please help me to solve this problem.

Best regards,

Petri Kaurinkoski

Bug#561281: /lib/udev/rules.d/85-hwclock.rules screws up time on udevadm trigger if hw clock is not UTC

2009-12-15 Thread anomie
Package: util-linux
Version: 2.16.2-0

/lib/udev/rules.d/85-hwclock.rules attempts to adjust the system clock
when /dev/rtc0 becomes available. However, it uses --systz rather than
--hctosys, which means that instead of reading the RTC it just assumes
that the system clock is the correct UTC time and adjusts it based on
/etc/localtime. This works fine on boot on recent 2.6 kernels, but if
"udevadm trigger" is called (or /dev/rtc0 is re-announced for some other
reason), it screws things up.

For example:
