Bug#563230: Assertion failure in ecj-gcj on hurd-i386

2010-01-01 Thread Mattias Ellert
Package: ecj-gcj
Version: 3.5.1-1
Severity: important

When building voms 1.9.14.3-1 on hurd-i386 the build fails with the
following assertion failure error:

ecj-gcj: /var/tmp/hurd-20090404/./libpthread/pthread/pt-internal.h:109:
__pthread_enqueue: Assertion `thread-prevp == 0' failed.

Complete log can be found here:

https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=vomsarch=hurd-i386ver=1.9.14.3-1stamp=1262278209file=logas=raw

The previous version of voms (1.9.14.2-1) did build correctly on this
architecture. There has been no changes in the java code between these
two voms versions.

The new voms version has built fine on all other architectures,
including those that like hurd-i386 uses gcj as the default java
implementation (hppa, kfreebsd-i386, kfreebsd-amd64).

Package: libargtable2-0

libargtable2-0 does not contain libargtable2.so, which some binaries are

Since libargtable2.so is required for running compiled programs, it should be

Bug#547278: elvis: does not start - the default font specification too restrictive

2010-01-01 Thread Jonathan Nieder
found 547278 elvis/2.2.0-11
severity 547278 serious
thanks

Hi Kapil,

You wrote:

I was looking at other X packages that need a font like xterm.
There does not seem to be an explicit dependency and I think that is
a good thing. The reason is that the X server (which is what provides
the fonts) is not necessarily running on the same system as the
 program.

I suppose we should default to (or fallback to) a font like fixed
that is supposed to be on every X window system.

I agree with this. But I raised the severity of this bug because it
means elvis fails to work out of the box. If using a more standard
font is too much trouble, could you Recommends: an appropriate package
to make elvis work as expected?

Thanks,
Jonathan

If you don't use an old i386 this `garbage' shouldn't matter at all.
If you don't want to have it, the proper fix belongs in autoconf.
It's used for these ./configure options, generated by the AC_ARG_PROGRAM
autoconf macro:

Program names:
--program-prefix=PREFIXprepend PREFIX to installed program names
--program-suffix=SUFFIXappend SUFFIX to installed program names
--program-transform-name=PROGRAM run sed PROGRAM on installed program names

I know that at least the Fedora GRUB 2 packages uses this. So we just
can't remove that feature upstream. And I don't think it's worth to
diverge from upstream for this just to save a few CPU cycles.

Bug#563237: jed-extra: not obvious how to use new modes

2010-01-01 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Package: jed-extra
Version: 2.5.6-1

Dear jed team,

I am looking for a simple editor that accepts vi bindings and supports
syntax highlighting. Reading the jed-extra package description, I find

| Enhancements include:
[...]
| * new or enhanced editor emulation modes for:
| Vi, Cua, Brief

so it looks like this might fit the bill. But xjed(1),
/usr/share/doc/xjed/README{,.Debian,.Debian-startup}, and
/usr/share/doc/jed-extra/README{,.Debian} provide no guidance that I
can see how to use.

xjed itself does not support vi keys and even hitting ^C to send it
SIGINT does not result in any intuitive response (it says Quit! and
just sits there expectantly), so I decided to kill it and avoid
starting it again rather than expect guidance from that corner.

Would it be possible to add some note to some README.Debian to help
ex-pats from other editors to start out? Ideally, this would be a
comment along these lines: To switch the default editor emulation
mode for jed system-wide, run 'dpkg-reconfigure -plow jed'. To change
it for a particular user, run 'jed-setup'. But if such a front-end
is too much trouble, magic incantations to add to some file would be
fine, too.

I look forward to your thoughts.

Happy new year,
Jonathan

Bug#528453: Tagging #528453 wontfix

2010-01-01 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Hi,

Jörg Sommer wrote:

This report didn't really describe a bug. It's more a (loosely) feature
of Jed to check if the version used at runtime is at least as recent as
the version used while building. As said before, this warning comes up
everytime jed migrates faster to testing than libslang and vanishes when
 libslang migrated.

We don't want to add a dependency to jed on the libslang version used at
buildtime, because this would drive the dynamic dependency system of
Debian useless—Debian's symbol bases dependency system is much more
 accurate than jed's loosely feature.

Why not suppress the warning?

Curious,
Jonathan

How to reproduce:
# apt-get remove automake --purge
# apt-get install automake
# ls -la /usr/bin/automake /usr/bin/aclocal /etc/alternatives/automake

Workaround: after installing automake1.10 package the symlinks for automake are
working but they

/etc/udev/rules.d/z60_libticables2-1.rules should probably be replaced
by ATTR. (I think these should probably be ATTR instead of ATTRS, but I
don't have any of these physical cables to test myself.)

Bug#563242: ITP: gprbuild-4.4 -- a multi-language extensible build tool

2010-01-01 Thread Stephen Leake
Package: wnpp
version: 1.0
Severity: wishlist
Upstream Author : AdaCore (rep...@adacore.com)
URL : http://libre.adacore.com/libre/
License : GPL
Programming Lang: Ada
Description : a multi-language extensible build tool

A set of tools for processing GNAT project files. gprbuild runs tools
on the specified source files; gprclean removes the corresponding
built files; gprconfig configures both tools. It is highly
configurable; the default configuration supports compiling Ada,
Assembler, C, C++, and Fortran sources.
 .
This package contains the executables gprbuild, gprclean, gprconfig.

The package name includes -4.4 because it is tightly tied to gnat;
gnat is currently at version 4.4. Future releases of gprbuild will
coincide with future releases of gnat.

It might make sense to have the gnat meta-package install gprbuild
as well (the AdaCore distributions of the GNAT toolset do this).
However, gprbuild can be used without gnat.

Bug#563246: virtualbox-ose: Virtual Machines no longer start after apt-get upgrade

2010-01-01 Thread clayton
Package: virtualbox-ose
Version: 3.1.2-dfsg-1
Severity: important

After the latest update, when I start a Virtual Machine I get the
following error in a popup:

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine
Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)

followed by another popup that says:

RTR3Init failed with rc=-1912 (rc=-1912)
Please install the virtualbox-ose-dkms package and execute 'modprobe
vboxdrv' as root.

If I follow this advice, it does not fix the problem, I just get the
same errors again. I also tried to create my own vboxdrv using

m-a a-i virtualbox-ose

and that failed with build errors.
I am dead in the water.

Bug#563245: spamassassin: FH_DATE_PAST_20XX rule is a false positive since january 1st, 2010

2010-01-01 Thread Julien Reveret
Package: spamassassin
Version: 3.2.5-2+lenny1
Severity: important

spamassassin rule FH_DATE_PAST_20XX is obviously wrong since today (january 1st,
2010)

/usr/share/spamassassin/72_active.cf:header FH_DATE_PAST_20XX Date =~
/20[1-9][0-9]/ [if-unset: 2006]
/usr/share/spamassassin/72_active.cf:describe FH_DATE_PAST_20XX The date is
grossly in the future.

A simple fix would be to change the regexp to catch mails with a date in the
2011-2099 range but it means that one should change it every year... Since this
rule is heavy weighted, it should be fixed quickly to prevent false positives.

Bug#172113: apt-listchanges: diff for NMU version 2.83+nmu2

 Hello, folks.

I've prepared an NMU which is at [1]. It fixes bug 172113. Since the
original patch has been tested for some time in my own machine, and this
new version has been tested a little too, I consider it's safe to do the
 upload.

As both Pierre and Christian are in the LowThresholdNMU, I will ask my
AM or a friend to do the upload next year. :-)

please don't.

1- this package is on collab-maint, so rather find someone to review the
patch then push it there.

2- this is clearly not NMU material.

Bug#562757: Summary and suggestions to a solution

2010-01-01 Thread Oren Held
I'll try to sum up the problems and solutions reported so far. I'll stress
that these problems currently render NFS (v2, v3, v4) non-functioning on
latest Debian sid.

1. [nfs-common pkg] needs rpcbind-ONLY dependency: we have to remove portmap
dependency. (#562757)
2. [rpcbind pkg] rpcbind lacks an init script (#563053)
+ I've already suggested an init script in that bug page.
  + upon postinst/prerm, run rpcbind start/stop, respectively.
+ also, probably rpcbind package should conflict with portmap.

===
Michael: to me it seems that NEED_STATD is YES not due to some smart fstab
autodetection, but simply because default is YES. (/etc/init.d/nfs-common:75).
As far as I understand it's not easy to autodetect whether the sysadmin wants
NFSv4 only or v3 or both, so I think that it's best to leave the current
behavior as is, considering that NFSv3 is still widely used. It makes sense
that a sysadmin should take an extra effort to disable NFSv3 and its daemons,
like you did in order to avoid this bug.

Lowering the severity given the lack of information.

*** Please type your report below this line ***
  Hangs sometimes when playing music.

Please try and provide more information, eg. what type of file (ogg,
 mp3
etc.) are you listening to when this happens?

Are there any error shown onto the console when the crash happens?

Does it happen in a particular sound environment?

Have you had a chance to study this issue?

Without reply from you within a relative short period of time, I will
close this bug.

2/ a specificity on ppc - which I haven't been able to find while

It should have nothing to do with the platform. I have not had much

something is wrong with the forking of the daemon process and the
permissions. I hope I will be able to take a look at it with pdb

 the weekend.

Have you had a chance to look at this issue?

After different tests on different systems, I still couldn't reproduce
it.

Bug#563220: gkrellm failing to connect to previously used host causes xfce4-panel to abort with an error

Hello Daniel,
thanks for your report, but there's something to adjust in it...

On Fri, Jan 1, 2010 at 04:05, Daniel Dickinson crazycsh...@gmail.com wrote:
 Package: gkrellm
 Version: 2.3.1-8
 Severity: critical
 Justification: breaks unrelated software

 On Lenny with some backports,

so something unofficially maintained :)

 1) GKrellM is an 'Autostarted Application' in XFCE4
 2) GKrellM has connected to a certain remote host on previous occaison and
 worked fine
 3) The host is take offline and the system with GKrellM is rebooted

so on the local host, when trying to connect to the remove host,
gkrellm crashed: is that correct? (I've inferred it, since it's not
clearly stated.) In any case, please try to run gkrellm with the
--debug option, selecting the relevant values (gkrellm -h will show
the ones to use) and report the output?

Also, trying with the new version in sid (soon there will be also the
fresh new upstream release there) would help.

 4) On login to XFCE4, the xfce4-panel aborts with an error
(something like Bad Drawable, 0 pixels)

can you be more generic...? no, really, without precise description
and logs, how can we debug the problem?

 5) The gkrellm monitor was set to not display in the window task list (i.e.
 currently open windows).

This is a breakage of unrelated software and thus critical severity.

no, those are simply a bug in xfce4-panel and a bug in gkrellm:
xfce4-panel should not crash if an autostarted app crashed (clone
retitle) and gkrellm should not crash. That said, severity is
downgraded.

If this is not reproducible on a Lenny amd64 system with XFCE, it may be that

can you please test it?

some backports package is partially at fault, however, this looks to me like
something is happening in GKrellM that should never happend AND it's the
occurence isn't defended against by xfce4-panel. (or maybe GTK).

it's xfce4-panel (if there's a bug in it) that should protect itself.

Judging from the path in which this executable is installed (/opt), this
is not a Debian program. Libargtable (the upstream), up until around the
point Debian started to ship it, would not include SO versioning,
resulting in applications linking with it being linked with the so
rather than the explicit version. It would seem that your program links
with such an old version (upstream released a properly versioned version
on December 23, 2005 - over four years ago). I would direct your bug to
the application.

In the mean while, there are two easy work arounds. Either:
1. Install libargtable2-dev
or
2. Create a symbolic link from /usr/lib/libargtable2.so.0 to
/usr/lib/libargtable2.so

Bug#563250: xvile: Warning: Cannot convert string lucidasans-10 to type FontStruct

2010-01-01 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Package: xvile
Version: 9.7y-1

Dear Brendan and Paul,

I was looking for a reasonably pleasant vi clone that supports
proportional-width fonts, and vile looks like a good starting point to
make one. Thanks for packaging it.

xvile emits the following message whenever I run it:

| Warning: Cannot convert string lucidasans-10 to type FontStruct

I do not have Lucida Sans installed.

Would it be possible to replace this with a more informative message
indicating why I would want Lucida Sans and what package contains it?
Failing that, maybe xvile could have a Suggests: or Recommends: field
added to its control file.

Regards,
Jonathan

Thanks for having asked the TexLive maintainers.

By the first half of January I will package the new upstream version of
Dynare. I will therefore include a patch for this TexLive issue (using
 double anti-slashes).

I'm not happy with that solution. IMO, it's up to dblatex to treat
filename/filename correctly. Otherwise, a lot of documents must be

2010-01-01 Thread Bastien ROUCARIES
About CVE-2008-3134 (bcc Petr because it seems to be in charge of imagemagick
at suse)

We had reviewed CVE-2008-3134 when it was first released and determined that
the ImageMagick releases at that time did not suffer from the vulnerabilities.
Its possible that older versions of ImageMagick (circa 2002) might have the
vulnerabilities. DOS vulnerabilities are addressed with the -limit option.
Its perfectly valid, for example, to convert a 20x20 pixel image but
it may be disruptive to a multi-user system. A solution may be to set the
disk limit to say 1GB so that any image that exceeds the limit causes
ImageMagick to exit. You can set a system wide policy in recent releases of
ImageMagick. Just edit policy.xml

URL:
http://support.novell.com/security/cve/CVE-2008-3134.html
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=CVE-2008-3134

We will therefore close thiis bug report, if nobody disagree.

Subject: timidity-daemon: No error message executing `invoke-rc.d timidity

Version: 2.13.2-7.3
Severity: minor

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Dear Debian hackers,

if Timidity is not running

$ ps aux | grep *timidity*
joe 25362 0.0 0.0 3124 812 pts/6S+ 13:13 0:00 grep
*timidity*

trying to stop Timidity should reflect that.

$ sudo invoke-rc.d timidity stop
Stopping TiMidity++ ALSA midi emulation
$ echo $?
0

Looking at `/etc/init.d/timidity` the executed command is the following.

start-stop-daemon --stop --quiet --oknodo --pidfile ${PIDFILE} \
  --name ${NAME} --retry 10

1. The return value is 0 because `--oknodo` lets s-s-d return 0 »if no
actions are taken« (`man start-stop-daemon`). This seems to be due to
some policy and implemented in #414929 [1].

2. It would be nice if the user could see nevertheless that Timidity did
not run in background. I see two possibilities.

a) Remove `--quiet` as an argument for s-s-d. The formatting of the
output has to be adapted a little.

$ sudo invoke-rc.d timidity stop # `--quiet` removed in script
Stopping TiMidity++ ALSA midi emulation...No timidity found running;
none killed.
.
.

b) Adapt the init script to print an error message as in `libvirt-bin`
[2] which uses a function »running« to check whether the process is
running. But that should be the same behavior as implementing a). I do
not know the reason why “all” other packages call s-s-d with `--quiet`
too.

I guessed the version for the BTS, but it has probably already present
since before fixing [1]. I am running 2.13.2-37 (Sid/unstable).

Thanks,

Paul

No problem with iceweasel, thunderbird, etc. but they don't appear to use the
split-out package of NSS.

I reported the same bug against gnutls, #563127. The maintainer found that
gnutls refused to accept the certificate because it was issues by a V1 CA.
Sadly I'm no X.509 expert so I don't know what that really means. The
certificate in question was issued in April 2009, so it's not exactly ancient.

Please tell me if you'd like the server address to debug this further yourself,
or whether there are any command line utilities for NSS that I can use as the
equivalent of gnutls-bin/'openssl s_client' to debug further.

Because this coincides with the upgrade from 3.12.4 to 3.12.5 I am assuming
that NSS made a similar policy change to GnuTLS, to stop trusting V1 CAs. If
this is the kind of thing that a user of NSS can override, please let me know
and I'll forward that information to the (evolution) upstream bug at
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=605773.

My guess is that it is related to the fixing of #301283.

As far as I can tell zlib is performing correctly here, the man-db
process doing the decompression exits correctly having detected EOF and
closed the file, then exits. The read() that's spinning with zero bytes
is certainly not a zlib one, it reads data in 16384 byte chunks but
that's a read of 65535 bytes (and the man-db debug output says the
process that's spinning is a manconv one.

That said, I can't immediately spot a problem in the man-db code and
reverting the explict reporting of EOF in zlib makes man-db stop falling
over so I'll upload a package just now.

Thanks to those who worked on tracking this down and mitigating it. I
was away over Christmas and so didn't see this report until today.

The core problem was zlib sometimes truncating output by reporting EOF
too early, which Mark fixed in 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3. This in turn exposed an
infinite loop bug in manconv when it sees an incomplete multibyte
character at the end of an input file. This only happened with multibyte
legacy encodings, hence why a number of people reported this happening
with Japanese pages.

I've uploaded a fix for this in man-db 2.5.6-5. Here are the upstream

Mark, as far as I can see, you can drop the workaround in zlib

the fix in man-db 2.5.6-5.

RFC 3492 is not a problem as it's considered free according to

 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=489692

Can you explain why just including the tables is a valid workaround? As
far as I can tell from the copyright notice in the RFC, derivative works
still need to keep the license and include the copyright notice.

Cheers,

The solution is written down in `README.Debian` and [1] I guess. But
this in my opinion very cumbersome.

What are possible solution to this?

 1. Check for PulseAudio during install time and have a Debconf dialog to
 ask for the configuration?

I'm happy to accept patches improving compatibility with pulseaudio.
However personally I consider pulseaudio a horrible hack, and do not intend to
spend much time on it.

 2. Fix Timidity upstream to support and detect PulseAudio natively?

There is not much timidity upstream left afaik. Most work of the last years
seems to be windows compat fixes.

 3. …

to install the megaraid_mbox module manually, no success.

Is this the module that Debian 4.0 used to access the device? Full
lspci -n and dmesg output (after loading the module) would probably be
useful. Also, please try the current installer snapshot from
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/ to see if that works
better.

Tried an adaptec raid controller type I20 2100S this also failed in
disk detection, tried to load i2o module manually, this also failed.

Please provide the same info as above.

I finally got things working properly, I think. I installed the latest

I'm not sure this fixes the issue, or atleast not all of them.
Atleat some dictionaries set up all the symlinks themself.
Maybe bugs should get filed against those packages to remove

Bug#519006: mips/ld: non-dynamic relocations refer to dynamic symbol

2010-01-01 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Hi,

while fixing #531937 I found out how to create a very minimalistic
testcase. Apparently the diagnosis that ld cannot “override” libc
symbols with local symbols was correct.

I have created an attachment to the upstream-filed bug at:
http://sources.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=10144

I eventually fixed #531937 since the real bug was something else
that only happened to be noticed because of this toolchain bug,
but actually may have affected the programme negatively, so this
bug can be used for testing ☺

I tried but failed to reproduce the issue with

 http://people.debian.org/~doko/tmp/gfortran-4.5_4.5-20091226-1_hppa.deb

I did run lintian on hppa.

The error may be due to #562518, although I can't reproduce it myself in
paer's sid chroot; can you confirm whether you still see it? However,
the uninformative error message is very likely a bug in man-db, so I'll
take it.

Could you run this command and report its output?

Hi,

I've got exactly the same problem here with Evolution 2.28 and my
Googlemail-Account. It is caused by bug #561918 [1]. You should check
my message there.

Cheers

No problem with iceweasel, thunderbird, etc. but they don't appear to use the
 split-out package of NSS.

I reported the same bug against gnutls, #563127. The maintainer found that
gnutls refused to accept the certificate because it was issues by a V1 CA.
Sadly I'm no X.509 expert so I don't know what that really means. The
certificate in question was issued in April 2009, so it's not exactly ancient.

Please tell me if you'd like the server address to debug this further
 yourself,
or whether there are any command line utilities for NSS that I can use as the
equivalent of gnutls-bin/'openssl s_client' to debug further.

Bug#563263: [googleearth-package] Creates uninstallable packages (ia32-libs dependency)

2010-01-01 Thread Jason Heeris
Package: googleearth-package
Version: 0.5.7
Severity: normal

I used make-googleearth-package with the 5.1 installer on an AMD64
machine. The package it creates has (amongst others) these dependencies:

ia32-libs ( 15) | ia32-libgl1-mesa-glx,
ia32-libs (= 20080808)

In the absence of ia32-libgl1-mesa-glx (which does not appear to be in
the archives), this is not logically possible to satisfy :)

Bug#550978: patch incomplete

2010-01-01 Thread Enrico Scholz
Hi,

I am the Fedora maintainer of gif2png and think that the supplied patch
is incomplete. In main(), there is done

| - strcpy(name, argv[i]);
| + strncpy( name, argv[i], sizeof( name ) );
| ...
|   strcat(name, .gif);

which could still overflow 'name'. I think that

http://cvs.fedoraproject.org/viewvc/rpms/gif2png/devel/gif2png-overflow.patch?revision=HEADroot=extrasview=markup

solves the issue better. It omits the changes in processfile() because
main() guarantees that 'fname' is short enough.

FWIW, 2.5.2 *is* affected; the -ENAMETOOLONG comes from the open(2)
call. Applying a modified exploit like

  gif2png `perl -e print '/' x 1024`/a

still triggers the issue.

Bug#563265: videosetting doesnt work using phonon-backend-xine

2010-01-01 Thread Andreas Marschke
Package: phonon-backend-xine

Severity: normal

Hi,

using the phonon backend and applications such as bangarang or dragon player
which both use the videoWidget().setHue/.setSaturation()/.setBrightness()
functions the applications arent actually changing the videowidget settings.

I asked the upstream people(#xine on freenode) and according to them its a
post-plugin
chain issue. I can not actually comment on that as I am only using it not
working on it.

Is it possible that it is a build time issue?

Cheers,

Can you explain why just including the tables is a valid workaround? As
far as I can tell from the copyright notice in the RFC, derivative works
still need to keep the license and include the copyright notice.

I'm not a lawyer, I only read that in the bug report. I've just googled
for some relevant mails and found

The follow-up by Simon Josefsson is also interesting.

Bug#563270: grepmail: options to parse mbox in reverse order and to stop after a while

2010-01-01 Thread Josip Rodin
Package: grepmail
Version: 5.3033-4
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

For date-based searches, if there was an option to search the input from
bottom to top, and/or to stop after reaching a specified number of hits,
it would be significantly faster than what we get now. For example:

% ls -l randommbox
-rw--- 1 joy joy 29640019 2010-01-01 12:32 randommbox

% time grepmail -d 'since 5 days ago' randommbox | grep -c ^Date:
23
grepmail -d 'since 5 days ago' randommbox 14,88s user 0,31s system 99% cpu
15,201 total
grep -c ^Date: 0,00s user 0,00s system 0% cpu 15,200 total

% time tail -1 randommbox | grepmail -d 'since 5 days ago' | grep -c Date:
23
tail -1 randommbox 0,00s user 0,00s system 0% cpu 0,946 total
grepmail -d 'since 5 days ago' 0,92s user 0,07s system 98% cpu 1,007 total
grep -c Date: 0,00s user 0,00s system 0% cpu 1,005 total

The trouble with the tail(1) above is that it's just a guess.

As I wrote you in answer to your private mail:

The big step is not to package PNP4Nagios itself but to package Kohana

i just tested qemu 0.12.1 and the support seems to be improved for
mips, mipsel and powerpc. debootstrap --foreign works well enough to
create a chroot. then copying the appropriate /usr/bin/qemu-* to

 dpkg errors...

You mean 0.12.0-rc1? Or 0.11.1 (which is what I tested with; did I
screw something up)?

Can you explain why just including the tables is a valid workaround? As
far as I can tell from the copyright notice in the RFC, derivative works

I'm not a lawyer, I only read that in the bug report. I've just googled

The follow-up by Simon Josefsson is also interesting.
I'll have a look at depending on the system heimdal and simply stripping
all of the heimdal sources from the samba4 source tarball. We were going
to do that anyway at some point. That way, we should be able to avoid
worrying about the RFC's altogether.

Bug#563273: fcron's default systab: please consider that /etc/cron.{hourly,daily,weekly,monthly}

2010-01-01 Thread Alexander Kurtz
Package: fcron
Version: 3.0.1-1.3
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch
thanks

Hi,

currently the default systab shipped with fcron contains this:

  alexan...@alexander:~$ cat fcron.orig/var/spool/fcron/systab.orig
  !bootrun(true),nice(15),serial(true)
   03 03 * * * run-parts --report /etc/cron.daily
   17 03 * * 7 run-parts --report /etc/cron.weekly
   02 04 1 * * run-parts --report /etc/cron.monthly

Firstly, it seems that /etc/cron.hourly is (intentionally?) missing.

Secondly, if there are no packages which have put something into
/etc/cron.{hourly,daily,weekly,monthly} dpkg will remove the directory
which (in my case) results in useless system mails like this one:

  From: fcron r...@alexander
  To: r...@alexander
  Date: Fri, 01 Jan 2010 07:10:34 +0100
  Subject: fcron sys...@alexander run-parts --report /etc/cron.monthly

run-parts: failed to open directory /etc/cron.monthly: No such file or
directory
Job run-parts --report /etc/cron.monthly terminated (exit status: 1)
(mailing output)

If there are no objections, I suggest applying the attached patch.

A happy new year to everyone!

Bug#563231: /etc/freeradius does not purged upon purge command to aptitude

2010-01-01 Thread George Shuklin
В Птн, 01/01/2010 в 14:12 +0100, Josip Rodin пишет:

If freeradius is purged by aptitude (aptitude purge freeradius),
configuration files (/etc/freeradius/*) does not removed.

  Steps to reproduce:
  aptitude install freeradius
  aptitude purge freeradius

  Expected behavior:
no /etc/freeradius (and no any files in /etc/freeradius).

  Actual behavior:
Catalogue /etc/freeradius with it content does not removed.

What *exactly* remained in your case?

/etc/freeradius/
-rw-r--r-- 1 root freerad 929 Sep 7 2008 dictionary
-rw-r- 1 root freerad 61497 Sep 7 2008 radiusd.conf

And I found, that purging together freeradius, freeradius-common, and
freeradius-utils remove /etc/freeradius. Now I don't know, bug this is
or not...

Alan Jenkins wrote:

 To reproduce:

 $ du -x

This almost certainly means that you have a corrupted file system.
 NOTIFY YOUR SYSTEM MANAGER.
The following directory is part of the cycle:

Thanks for the report.
I confirm that this still happens with the latest.

For now, I suggest you use e.g.,

du --exclude=/mnt -x /

Unless such bind mounts appear to be common,
I may just leave the current semantics as they are.

By the way, would you want du to traverse each
root partition directory twice?

Bug#563277: xbacklight: upgrade from 1.1 to 1.1.1 to work with new name for Backlight property

2010-01-01 Thread Michael Kaminsky
Package: xbacklight
Version: 1.1-1
Severity: normal

The current version of xbacklight (1.1) looks for the xrandr property
called BACKLIGHT. Some new video drivers (e.g., radeonhd 1.3.0)
are now calling that property Backlight, and the current xbacklight
reports No outputs have backlight property.

The newest version of xbacklight (1.1.1) looks for the property under
both names (according to the git changelog [1]). Can we upgrade the
Debian package?

Also, version 1.1.1 corrects bug #509306.

mitigate with 000_configure_with-ssh_fix.diff) and made it
lintian-clean and bumped the S-V while here.

thanks for your effort, it is much appreciated!

My concern is that the NMU fixes too much things which are out of scope
(assuming the scope was fixing the RC bug).

Regarding the fix I'm not convinced attaching the config.h.in and configure
diff is a good idea, running autoheader/autoconf at build time sounds better
to me.

Also, the package is in collab-maint (although in deb-maint, but I can move it
to ext-maint if want to commit there) so fixes unrelated to the RC can be put
there.

Bug#563281: test_pbuilder-checkparams fails it pbuilder is not installed

2010-01-01 Thread Michael Bienia
Package: pbuilder
Version: 0.195
Severity: important
Tags: patch
Justification: fails to build from source

Hello,

test_pbuilder-checkparams fails if pbuilder is not installed (e.g. when
building pbuilder inside a pbuilder or on the buildds).
The reason is that pbuilder-checkparams source files from
/usr/lib/pbuilder which aren't there (as pbuilder isn't installed). One
sees the error if the redirection of stderr in
test_pbuilder-checkparams:test_debuildopts() is temporarily commented out:
,
| ./pbuilder-checkparams: line 24: /usr/lib/pbuilder/pbuilder-loadconfig: No
such file or directory

file or directory
| ./pbuilder-checkparams: line 257: BUILDPLACE: Build root directory is not
defined
`
It seems to be sufficient to define BUILDPLACE before
pbuilder-checkparams is sourced (and continue to ignoring the error
about the non-existant files). With this change the testsuite works (and
succeeds).
