Bug#563230: Assertion failure in ecj-gcj on hurd-i386

Complete log can be found here: https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=vomsarch=hurd-i386ver=1.9.14.3-1stamp=1262278209file=logas=raw The previous version of voms (1.9.14.2-1) did build correctly on this architecture. There has been no changes in the java code between these two voms versions. The new voms version has built fine on all other architectures, including those that like hurd-i386 uses gcj as the default java implementation (hppa, kfreebsd-i386, kfreebsd-amd64). Package: libargtable2-0 Version: 9-1 libargtable2-0 does not contain libargtable2.so, which some binaries are compiled against. The file is in libargtable2-dev, for some reason. Bug#547278: elvis: does not start - the default font specification too restrictive
found 547278 elvis/2.2.0-11 severity 547278 serious thanks Hi Kapil, You wrote: I was looking at other X packages that need a font like xterm. There does not seem to be an explicit dependency and I think that is a good thing. The reason is that the X server (which is what provides the fonts) is not necessarily running on the same system as the program. I suppose we should default to (or fallback to) a font like fixed that is supposed to be on every X window system. I agree with this. But I raised the severity of this bug because it means elvis fails to work out of the box. If using a more standard font is too much trouble, could you Recommends: an appropriate package to make elvis work as expected? Bug#563237: jed-extra: not obvious how to use new modes
Package: jed-extra Version: 2.5.6-1 Dear jed team, I am looking for a simple editor that accepts vi bindings and supports syntax highlighting. Reading the jed-extra package description, I find | Enhancements include: [...] | * new or enhanced editor emulation modes for: | Vi, Cua, Brief so it looks like this might fit the bill. But xjed(1), /usr/share/doc/xjed/README{,.Debian,.Debian-startup}, and /usr/share/doc/jed-extra/README{,.Debian} provide no guidance that I can see how to use. xjed itself does not support vi keys and even hitting ^C to send it SIGINT does not result in any intuitive response (it says Quit! and just sits there expectantly), so I decided to kill it and avoid starting it again rather than expect guidance from that corner. Would it be possible to add some note to some README.Debian to help ex-pats from other editors to start out? Ideally, this would be a comment along these lines: To switch the default editor emulation mode for jed system-wide, run 'dpkg-reconfigure -plow jed'. To change it for a particular user, run 'jed-setup'. But if such a front-end is too much trouble, magic incantations to add to some file would be fine, too. I look forward to your thoughts. Bug#528453: Tagging #528453 wontfix
Hi, Jörg Sommer wrote: package jed tag 528453 + wontfix thanks This report didn't really describe a bug. It's more a (loosely) feature of Jed to check if the version used at runtime is at least as recent as the version used while building. As said before, this warning comes up everytime jed migrates faster to testing than libslang and vanishes when libslang migrated. We don't want to add a dependency to jed on the libslang version used at buildtime, because this would drive the dynamic dependency system of Debian useless—Debian's symbol bases dependency system is much more accurate than jed's loosely feature. Bug#562757: Summary and suggestions to a solution
I'll try to sum up the problems and solutions reported so far. I'll stress that these problems currently render NFS (v2, v3, v4) non-functioning on latest Debian sid. 1. [nfs-common pkg] needs rpcbind-ONLY dependency: we have to remove portmap dependency. (#562757) 2. [rpcbind pkg] rpcbind lacks an init script (#563053) + I've already suggested an init script in that bug page. + upon postinst/prerm, run rpcbind start/stop, respectively. + also, probably rpcbind package should conflict with portmap. === Michael: to me it seems that NEED_STATD is YES not due to some smart fstab autodetection, but simply because default is YES. (/etc/init.d/nfs-common:75). As far as I understand it's not easy to autodetect whether the sysadmin wants NFSv4 only or v3 or both, so I think that it's best to leave the current behavior as is, considering that NFSv3 is still widely used. It makes sense that a sysadmin should take an extra effort to disable NFSv3 and its daemons, like you did in order to avoid this bug. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#559775: [imagemagick][ CVE-2008-3134] News from upstream
About CVE-2008-3134 (bcc Petr because it seems to be in charge of imagemagick at suse) We had reviewed CVE-2008-3134 when it was first released and determined that the ImageMagick releases at that time did not suffer from the vulnerabilities. Its possible that older versions of ImageMagick (circa 2002) might have the vulnerabilities. DOS vulnerabilities are addressed with the -limit option. Its perfectly valid, for example, to convert a 20x20 pixel image but it may be disruptive to a multi-user system. A solution may be to set the disk limit to say 1GB so that any image that exceeds the limit causes ImageMagick to exit. You can set a system wide policy in recent releases of ImageMagick. Just edit policy.xml URL: http://support.novell.com/security/cve/CVE-2008-3134.html https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=CVE-2008-3134 We will therefore close thiis bug report, if nobody disagree. The return value is 0 because `--oknodo` lets s-s-d return 0 »if no actions are taken« (`man start-stop-daemon`). This seems to be due to some policy and implemented in #414929 [1]. 2. It would be nice if the user could see nevertheless that Timidity did not run in background. I see two possibilities. a) Remove `--quiet` as an argument for s-s-d. The formatting of the output has to be adapted a little. $ sudo invoke-rc.d timidity stop # `--quiet` removed in script Stopping TiMidity++ ALSA midi emulation...No timidity found running; none killed. . . b) Adapt the init script to print an error message as in `libvirt-bin` [2] which uses a function »running« to check whether the process is running. But that should be the same behavior as implementing a). I do not know the reason why “all” other packages call s-s-d with `--quiet` too. Please tell me if you'd like the server address to debug this further yourself, or whether there are any command line utilities for NSS that I can use as the equivalent of gnutls-bin/'openssl s_client' to debug further. Because this coincides with the upgrade from 3.12.4 to 3.12.5 I am assuming that NSS made a similar policy change to GnuTLS, to stop trusting V1 CAs. My guess is that it is related to the fixing of #301283. As far as I can tell zlib is performing correctly here, the man-db process doing the decompression exits correctly having detected EOF and closed the file, then exits. The read() that's spinning with zero bytes is certainly not a zlib one, it reads data in 16384 byte chunks but that's a read of 65535 bytes (and the man-db debug output says the process that's spinning is a manconv one. That said, I can't immediately spot a problem in the man-db code and reverting the explict reporting of EOF in zlib makes man-db stop falling over so I'll upload a package just now. Thanks to those who worked on tracking this down and mitigating it. I was away over Christmas and so didn't see this report until today. The core problem was zlib sometimes truncating output by reporting EOF too early, which Mark fixed in 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3. This in turn exposed an infinite loop bug in manconv when it sees an incomplete multibyte character at the end of an input file. This only happened with multibyte legacy encodings, hence why a number of people reported this happening with Japanese pages. I've uploaded a fix for this in man-db 2.5.6-5. Here are the upstream changelog entries, for the record (I made a slight mistake in the first attempt, caught during testing): Fri Jan 1 13:26:21 GMT 2010 Colin Watson cjwat...@debian.org * src/manconv.c (try_iconv): Only handle iconv errors when iconv returned -1. Fri Jan 1 11:37:13 GMT 2010 Colin Watson cjwat...@debian.org * src/manconv.c (try_iconv): Handle iconv errors when attempting to convert the last input encoding to UTF-8 (Debian bug #562503). * src/tests/manconv-3: Add test for this. * src/tests/Makefile.am (TESTS): Add manconv-3. Mark, as far as I can see, you can drop the workaround in zlib 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-2. The fix in 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3 is sufficient even without the fix in man-db 2.5.6-5. -- Colin Watson [cjwat...@debian.org] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#550978: patch incomplete
Hi, I am the Fedora maintainer of gif2png and think that the supplied patch is incomplete. In main(), there is done | - strcpy(name, argv[i]); | + strncpy( name, argv[i], sizeof( name ) ); | ... | strcat(name, .gif); which could still overflow 'name'. I think that http://cvs.fedoraproject.org/viewvc/rpms/gif2png/devel/gif2png-overflow.patch?revision=HEADroot=extrasview=markup solves the issue better. It omits the changes in processfile() because main() guarantees that 'fname' is short enough. FWIW, 2.5.2 *is* affected; the -ENAMETOOLONG comes from the open(2) call. Applying a modified exploit like gif2png `perl -e print '/' x 1024`/a still triggers the issue. Bug#531937: autossh: diff for NMU version 1.4b-2.1
Hi Thorsten, On Fri, Jan 01, 2010 at 02:10:58PM +, Thorsten Glaser wrote: Dear Filippo, I have prepared an NMU for autossh (version 1.4b-2.1) to fix the RC bug #531937 (FTBFS on mipsel due to missing -fPIC) as well as another upstream configure.ac bug (which you tried to mitigate with 000_configure_with-ssh_fix.diff) and made it lintian-clean and bumped the S-V while here. thanks for your effort, it is much appreciated! My concern is that the NMU fixes too much things which are out of scope (assuming the scope was fixing the RC bug). Regarding the fix I'm not convinced attaching the config.h.in and configure diff is a good idea, running autoheader/autoconf at build time sounds better to me. Also, the package is in collab-maint (although in deb-maint, but I can move it to ext-maint if want to commit there) so fixes unrelated to the RC can be put there. filippo -- Filippo Giunchedi - http://esaurito.net - 0x6B79D401 Networking -- only one letter away from not working -- Unknown -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#563281: test_pbuilder-checkparams fails it pbuilder is not installed
Package: pbuilder Version: 0.195 Severity: important Tags: patch Justification: fails to build from source Hello, test_pbuilder-checkparams fails if pbuilder is not installed (e.g. when building pbuilder inside a pbuilder or on the buildds). I had to retrieve source code to understand how to use geeqie with LIRC, which shouldn't have been necessary. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-1-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_US.UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages geeqie depends on: ii geeqie-common 1:1.0~beta2-8 data files for Geeqie ii libc6 2.10.2-2 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libexiv2-5 0.18.2-1+b1 EXIF/IPTC metadata manipulation li ii libgcc11:4.4.2-8 GCC support library ii libglib2.0-0 2.22.3-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-02.18.5-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii liblcms1 1.18.dfsg-1.1 Color management library ii liblircclient0 0.8.3-5 infra-red remote control support - ii libpango1.0-0 1.26.2-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libstdc++6 4.4.2-8 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 Versions of packages geeqie recommends: ii exiftran 2.07-3 transform digital camera jpeg imag ii exiv20.18.2-1+b1 EXIF/IPTC metadata manipulation to ii imagemagick 7:6.5.8.3-1 image manipulation programs ii ufraw0.16-1 standalone importer for raw camera ii zenity 2.28.0-1Display graphical dialog boxes fro Versions of packages geeqie suggests: pn geeqie-dbgnone (no description available) ii gimp 2.6.7-1.1 The GNU Image Manipulation Program pn libjpeg-progs none (no description available) pn xpaintnone (no description available) -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
