Bug#570611: [ubuntu-mythtv] Bug#570611: ITP: mythtv -- A personal video recorder application

2010-02-19 Thread Mario Limonciello
Andres:

Additionally; i'd recommend you do this for a 0.23 based build. They're
doing RC next week and targeting release next month, so it would make more
sense to be able to support that (especially since patches on top of /
replacing ffmpeg will change significantly I expect)

Bug#557783: update

2010-02-19 Thread Dennis 123321
Well, some of us may not be as understanding of all of these
dependancy issues as you...

If I can technically get it from http://www.lamaresh.net/binary.php, I
simply did not understand how it was not able to be packaged here.
That is all, I am sorry if it annoyed you!

Hi Wakko,

Thanks for the bug report. As this is a munin issue rather than a debian
issue, this should be handled upstream. I've forwarded this bug to the
upstream bug tracker.

If you get a chance to write the patch, please include it there, so it can be
incorporated in a future munin release.

Regards,
Tom Feiner

Bug#570612: Missing option to copy files to a different location inside the chroot

2010-02-19 Thread Goswin von Brederlow
Package: makejail
Version: 0.0.5-7
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I'm missing an option to copy files from outside the chroot to a
different location inside the chroot.

Say I want to make a jail for apache. 'makejail apache.py' will then
see an access to /etc/apache/httpd.conf and copy that file into the
chroot. Using just that mechanism means that I have apache running
outside and inside the jail with identical config. The same happens if
I specify 'forceCopy=["/etc/apache/httpd.conf"]'. More usefull would
be if one could copy a different file so that thet jailed apache has a
specialized configuration.

I'm suggesting the following:

forceCopyTo When initializing the jail, copy the files matching
these patterns to the specified destination
according to the rules used by the Unix shell.

No tilde expansion is done, but *, ?, and character
ranges expressed with [] will be correctly matched.
If a destination ends in / specifies a directory
and the source file(s) are copied there under their
original name. If the source pattern matches
multiple files then the destination must end in /.

   Format: [["src1", "dest1"],["src2", "dest2"]]

   Default: []

Bug#570532: linux-source-2.6.26: patch required for yealink.c

2010-02-19 Thread shizuma
yealink uses two URBs that submit each other. This arrangement cannot
be reliably killed with usb_kill_urb() alone, as there's a window
during which the wrong URB may be killed. The fix is to introduce a
flag.

Skype is unreliable whenever the device is connected. The system
will eventually freeze completely. No magic key; resetting the
computer is not enough to get it rebooted. One have to power it
down.

Hi,

I'm requesting a patch to the yealink module to fix an error
like usb_submit_urb failed -2 when used with a K2B box.

More info: http://marc.info/?l=linux-usb&m=121482783614488&w=2

What is the impact of this error?

Ben.

Bug#570611: [ubuntu-mythtv] Bug#570611: ITP: mythtv -- A personal video recorder application

2010-02-19 Thread Mario Limonciello
Hi Andres:

I appreciate this effort! If we can really see this to a reality, I'll
gladly help push more of the ubuntu specific things that are making mythtv a
good experience on Ubuntu up to Debian.

I'm a little worried however on using the system ffmpeg. Upstream frowns
upon this currently, so I think it's best to make sure that the solution
that is developed has their approval / works properly. Solving the
dlopen'ing of lame may be a better short term goal with upstream.

Just to be clear, I don't mean this to be replacing the current packaging from
Ubuntu solely to make it work for Debian. I intend the packaging to be
configurable so that the appropriate configure options, build dependencies, and
so on will be implemented for Debian and Ubuntu.

I do look forward to working with you all :)

Bug#568652: Remove from Debian instead of moving to non-free?

2010-02-19 Thread Ansgar Burchardt
Hi,

considering we have at least two other Perl modules (Email::Send and
Email::Sender) that allow sending multipart mails via SMTP and that
libmail-sender-perl has no reverse dependencies, what about removing the
package from Debian instead of moving it to non-free?

Bug#570611: ITP: mythtv -- A personal video recorder application

2010-02-19 Thread Andres Mejia
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Andres Mejia

* Package name: mythtv
  Version : 0.22
  Upstream Author : Isaac Richards
* URL : http://www.mythtv.org/
* License : GPL-2
Programming Lang: C, C++, Perl, Python,
Description : A personal video recorder application

MythTV is a PVR (Personal Video Recorder) application that implements the
following, and more, with a unified graphical interface:

 - Basic 'live-tv' functionality. Pause/Fast Forward/Rewind "live" TV.
 - Video compression using RTjpeg or MPEG-4
 - Program listing retrieval using XMLTV
 - Themable, semi-transparent on-screen display
 - Electronic program guide
 - Scheduled recording of TV programs
 - Resolution of conflicts between scheduled recordings
 - Basic video editing

NOTE: The old ITP (bug #311367) has long been closed and the
pkg-mythtv-maintainers team seem to be dead (they haven't responded to an email
I've sent some time ago [1]). This will be another attempt at getting MythTV
into Debian. I will be basing the packaging from the packages that are currently
distributed through Ubuntu.

Some work has already been done towards getting mythtv into Debian. Take a look
at
Vcs-Git: git://git.debian.org/git/collab-maint/mythtv.git
Vcs-Browser: http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/mythtv.git

For a start, I've already implemented a way for mythtv to build and run with
system libraries for ffmpeg, version >= 4:0.6~~svn20100124-1, which will be the
next ffmpeg upstream version to be uploaded. Next would be to have mythtv work
with FFMpeg from the 0.5 branch in SVN (like the current packages in sid). This
would than follow with having mythtv use libmp3lame via dlopen. There's also
an interest upstream to use vorbis as a replacement/alternative to mp3.

Bug#570610: wx-common: Does not support wxWidgets 2.8 in Lenny

2010-02-19 Thread Michael Stovenour
Package: wx-common
Severity: important

Lenny provides wxWidgets packages for v2.6 and v2.8. However wx-common only
supports v2.6
in Lenny. The wxWidgets development installs (libwxgtk2.8-dev and
libwxbase2.8-dev) can not
be used on packages that use autotools without one of the files in wx-common;
wxwin.m4.
Ideally there would be a wx2.8-common that is dependent on libwxbase2.8-0
available in Lenny.
A work around is to manually extract wxwin.m4 from the wxWidgets v2.8 source
package and copy
it to /usr/share/aclocal.

IMO, wxwin.m4 should be part of the "libwxbasevX.X-dev" packages but a
wx2.8-common package
for Lenny would suffice.

Hi,

% ls -lh /tmp/chroot
ls: cannot access /tmp/chroot: No such file or directory

On the other hand if I create /tmp/chroot first then I get the
expected result, a chroot with bin/ls and required libs.

I think makejail should create the chroot directory if missing or at
least abort with an error.

Bug#570609: askpass.py is not executable

2010-02-19 Thread Andrew McNabb
Package: pssh
Version: 2.0-2

Someone submitted a pssh bug, and it looks like it's being caused
by a bug with the Debian package that you might want to be aware of.
Here's a link:

http://code.google.com/p/parallel-ssh/issues/detail?id=8

It appears that the problem is that the executable bit is not set for
/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.5/psshlib/askpass.py.

Bug#570608: jhead: confusing manpage

2010-02-19 Thread Ian Zimmerman
Package: jhead
Version: 1:2.90-1

The description of the -cmd option in the manpage is extremely confusing,
and the examples only make it worse:

1. groff eats the double quotes around the subprocess command line, so
the fact that this must be passed as a single argument to jhead is lost.

2. both examples use an -r flag, which is not mentioned anywhere else

I did not force a particular hdf version, so there is an issue with the

Aptitude did not select all new versions itself, so I did it until it
looked reasonable (see above). With that set of package versions I can

The package description is:

CurlFtpFS is a tool to mount FTP hosts as local directories. It connects to a

Based on FUSE (filesystem in userspace) and the cURL library, CurlFtpFS has
some features that distinguish it over other FTP filesystems:
 * support for SSLv3 and TLSv1
 * connecting through tunneling HTTP proxies
 * automatic reconnection if the server times out
 * conversion of absolute symlinks to point back into the FTP filesystem

Bug#569633: upgrading to 5.0-11 broke my tftp setup also

2010-02-19 Thread Eric Cooper
My netboots were failing with the same error ("Only absolute filenames
allowed"). Before the upgrade, tftpd was run by inetd, and I had
specified "-s /var/lib/tftpboot".

After the upgrade, it was a standalone daemon, and
/etc/default/tftpd-hpa contained:
# /etc/default/tftpd-hpa

TFTP_USERNAME="tftp"
TFTP_DIRECTORY="/var/lib/tftp"
TFTP_ADDRESS="0.0.0.0:69"
TFTP_OPTIONS=""

Note there was no -s or --secure in TFTP_OPTIONS, and the directory
had "silently" been changed from what I had used in /etc/inetd.conf.

Even after running "dpkg-reconfigure tftpd-hpa", the question about
additional options said "leave it at the recommended default value",
but the text dialog was empty -- I had to type in "--secure" myself.

At the very least, a NEWS file explaining the changes would have been
a good idea.

Bug#570603: libc6: fallocate and posix_fallocate do weird system calls

2010-02-19 Thread Drake Wilson
Package: libc6
Version: 2.10.2-6
Severity: normal

Two C source files are attached. One of them uses Linux fallocate()
and one uses posix_fallocate() from POSIX:2001. Both are ostensibly
supported by eglibc. I'm running a stock kernel from unstable (some
background text removed):

  $ uname -r
  2.6.29-1-amd64
  $ dpkg -l linux-image-2.6.29-1-amd64
  ii linux-image-2.6.29-1-amd64 2.6.29-3 Linux 2.6.29 image on AMD64

Each of the C programs will attempt to open and truncate a file named
"file", then allocate one MiB of space for it, changing its size.
Here's what happens instead:

  $ strace ./linux
  [...]
  open("file", O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC, 0666) = 3
  fallocate(3, 0, 4503599627370496, 6895618648722965280) = -1 EOPNOTSUPP
(Operation not supported)
<< The hexadecimal representations of those two numbers are
 0x0010 and 0x5fb228a05fb10320. >>

And:

  $ strace ./posix
  open("file", O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC, 0666) = 3
  fallocate(3, 0, 4503599627370496, 1048576) = -1 EOPNOTSUPP (Operation not
supported)
<< This is followed by an emulation of posix_fallocate using one-byte
 pwrites. Jesus. >>

This is obviously bogus.

This feels like libc screwing up the system call parameters, which is
why I'm reporting it here, but I'm not certain of that. It could also
potentially be strace or the kernel, in which case please reassign as
necessary, as usual.

Bug#570602: apt-rdepends does not autocomplete package names

2010-02-19 Thread Umang Varma
Package: apt-rdepends
Version: 1.3.0-1.1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,
apt-rdepends does not autocomplete package names when using the Tab
key. To reproduce I try apt-rdepends pyth. This does not get
autocompleted to python. However, with apt-cache policy pyth the
name is completed (indicating that pyth should autocomplete to python).

Thanks

Hello, thank you for your help. Unfortunately copying the newly created
files did not fix the issue for me. I was able to run make in the big
endian directory of espeak 1.41.01 source directory I downloaded and
then open the binary file which created phondata phonindex and phonetab
copied them to /usr/share/espeak-data/ but I'm still getting
segmentation fault error message when trying to run espeak. Did I do
anything wrong? Thanks.

This seems to be caused by the same issue as bug #562192, upstream bug

I will apply the same fix and upload.

Bug#570598: move dwww to "suggests" instead of "recommends" for libitpp-doc

2010-02-19 Thread Scott Howard
Source: libtipp
Version: 4.0.4-2
Severity: wishlist

libitpp-doc recommends dwww, so dwww is automatically installed by
default when a user installs libitpp using synaptic, apt-get, etc.
dwww depends on apache and a lot of other packages that many users do
not want. Installing libitpp-doc thus ends up installing apache on a
system.

Please move the current "recommends" in dwww to "suggests" to avoid this.

Bug#570595: git-core: git-rebase -i stumbles over empty (squashed) commits

2010-02-19 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Fri, Feb 19, 2010 at 07:59:35PM -0500, Frédéric Brière wrote:

> I'd argue for the empty commit, since I didn't actually remove anything

> wish.

Hmm, there is something subtle here then. When rebasing a patch series
with rebase or am, if one of my patches is already included upstream, I
would want it excluded, not replaced with an empty commit. Indeed,
that is something rebase already does by using rev-list --cherry-pick
--left-right to generate the list of commits to apply.

  apply A --- E --- apply C [upstream]
 /
 base --- A --- B --- C --- D [master]

should become and does become

 base --- apply A --- E --- apply C [upstream] --- B --- D [master]

On the other hand, if one of my patches was already an empty commit,
or in your case where the effect of commits to be squashed cancel each
other out, it makes sense to say the intention is to create an empty
patch, I agree. If I had wanted to remove the patch, I could always
explicitly remove it from the list.

The problem comes in a third case: what if some of my patches were
included upstream, with some other changes squashed in?

  apply A+C --- E [upstream]
 /
 base --- A --- B --- C --- D [master]

rev-list --cherry-pick will correctly note that my patch is not among
those included upstream, so rebase will try to apply it. If the
squashed-in change doesn’t conflict with my change, that will succeed
without conflicts, resulting in an empty patch. I would like that
patch to be omitted from the resulting history.

 base --- apply A+C --- E [upstream] --- B --- D [master]

How to achieve both? One could (and maybe should) use heuristics
like “empty commits should be forward-ported without complaint”.
In more complicated situations like squashes, I think the best thing
is to ask the human driver which situation we are in: is this an empty
marker, with an important commit message, or a superseded patch to
discard?

I will look into improving the error message. If you have other ideas
for improving the behavior and a little time, I encourage you to patch
git-rebase--interactive.sh to try them out and send the results to
g...@vger.kernel.org.

For php-adodb, php-ssh2, php-imlib, php-clamav, and php-apc: yes.

The zeroc-ice build failure appears to be just that the package was built
against php < 5.3 but with a patch that requires 5.3 (no compatibility with
old versions was added to the patch). Since we anyway need it to be built
against 5.3 please give it back on mipsel and sparc.

Ok. I was mostly worried about the time it would take to get it built on all
the architectures, but I now see that mips* seem to be doing better.

I'd argue for the empty commit, since I didn't actually remove anything
from the rebase list. I can always go back and purge it later if I so
wish.

In this case, you'll notice that the final version of that commit is not
an empty one. I would expect a squash to retain all messages, or a
fixup to retain the message of the first commit, regardless of what
happens in-between. Be sure to keep that in mind when coming up with a
fix.

Thanks for the report. I see two problems here:

First, when there are no changes to apply, rebase -i and am produce
confusing messages and abort without giving the user much guidance.
They should let the user know that one can use --skip to
continue.

Second, perhaps an empty patch is not worth stopping for anyway.

Were you expecting rebase -i to produce an empty squashed commit or
to skip the empty change?

Jonathan

Bug#570596: fpm2: disable actions that require a row to be selected

2010-02-19 Thread Frédéric Brière
Package: fpm2
Version: 0.76.1-1
Severity: wishlist

Ideally, fpm2 would disable (gray out) toolbar button and menu entries
which require a row to be selected when this is not the case, instead of
popping up an error window on activation.

Bug#570595: git-core: git-rebase -i stumbles over empty (squashed) commits

2010-02-19 Thread Frédéric Brière
Package: git-core
Version: 1:1.7.0-1
Severity: normal

git-rebase -i will complain and halt if it ever finds itself producing
an empty commit when squashing. I encountered this when attempting to
fix a branch full of "do X, do Y, undo X, undo Y, do Z instead" junk.

Here's a simple demonstration:

  $ git init

  $ echo foo > foo
  $ git add foo
  $ git commit -m foo

  $ echo bar >> foo
  $ git commit -a -m bar

  # This undoes the previous commit
  $ echo foo > foo
  $ git commit -a -m foo2

  $ echo baz >> foo
  $ git commit -a -m baz

  $ git rebase -i HEAD~3
  # Squash all three commits into one

  Could not apply 06c1a34... foo2

Bug#570594: Haskell binNMUs

2010-02-19 Thread Joachim Breitner
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi Release Team,

for Haskell libraries we now have a system of provides and depends in
place that guarantees that an ABI change in one of the packages makes
broken reverse dependencies uninstallable, similar to what the ocaml
people do.

We were not using it from the start for dependencies on the packages
that are bundled in the compiler package "ghc6", such as base.
Unfortunately, the ABI hash of this package changed for some arches at
some point, breaking all previously built packages and causing lots of
FTBFS on the buildds.

Such a change is expected to happen very rarely, but we want to be
prepared. Therefore, from ghc6-6.12.1-10 on, ghc6 also provides virtual
packages corresponding to the ABIs contained in them. We need all
haskell library packages to be rebuild with ghc6-6.12.1-10.

The following list is a collection of binNMUs and build-ordering
depwaits to cause such a rebuild. It does not give back any packages
state Build-Attempted, though. I’ll go through that list tomorrow...

Thanks for scheduling,

Joachim

Bug#564181: Gnulib TP template out of date?

2010-02-19 Thread Colin Watson
Hi,

While looking through my Debian bug reports, I came across
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=564181, and went to
check whether the corresponding updates had been applied to the PO file
held by the TP. The translator had indeed updated the PO file there as
I requested.

Unfortunately, the POT file is very out of date
(http://translationproject.org/POT-files/gnulib-1.0.0.1991.dbebf.pot
says 2009-03-20), and so many of the strings that Yuri had translated in
the patch he sent to the Debian bug tracking system simply weren't
available for translation at the TP.

Could a Gnulib maintainer send an updated POT file to the TP robot?

Thanks,

So I have now changed LANG = in /var/lib/vdradmin-am/vdradmind.conf to LANG =
sv_SE and that fixed the nameofday http://87.227.108.179/vdr_dayname.png part.

But it still fails the recording part from what I guess it is not converting
the charset=ISO-8859-1 back to UTF8 when it receives the input from the browser
when recording a program.
This one http://87.227.108.179/vdrutf8.jpg it display the program name correct
in the recording webpage and then wrong when looking at the webtimer page when
it use the input of the browser.

Lucky you. I've held back upgrading to X.Org 7 for two years because
of xawtv, but finally gave up. I could never get xawtv3 to work
correctly, and didn't have much success with xawtv4 either.

This program badly needs some serious love and care... :(

Bug#570275: mutt: bug with MUTT : ran from crontab, not working at all, and it is useful to send from cron

2010-02-19 Thread Antonio Radici
tag 570275 +wontfix
thanks

Hi,
so as I said before the problem is not a bug with HTML but a problem
with your usage, as the manual page says and NEWS.Debian says the syntax
to add an attachment was changed to work on all POSIX compliant system.

This was not my change but something introduced by mutt developers,
present and future versions of mutt will have this syntax and if I
revert this only on Debian that means that scripts using mutt >= 1.5.19
and sending attachments will work in a certain way on non-Debian systems
and in another way on Debian systems, this is simply not acceptable.

Our responsability is to fix bugs as sgmentation fault or anything that
disrupts user functionalities, our responsabilities is not to revert the
way the option are handled by the *official* software because otherwise
it will break behavior between distribution.

The only way you can have this fixed is escalete it to the mutt
developers (http://bugs.mutt.org/) and ask them to revert their change,
once they do it and release a new version I will include it as part of
the official version.

Cheers
Antonio

Bug#568838: lvm2: initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/lvm2 does not wait to detect LVM on devices that need time to appear

2010-02-19 Thread StalkR
Package: lvm2
Version: 2.02.54-1
Severity: normal

On my embedded system the root filesystem is on an LVM volume on an SD card.

On a lucky day, the SD card gets recognized soon enough and
scripts/local-top/lvm2 achieves to activate logical volume so that the root
filesystem can be mounted.

The other days, the SD card does not get recognized soon enough and
scripts/local-top/lvm2 fails to activate logical volume (volume group cannot be
found), then scripts/local:pre_mountroot() complains that rootfs cannot be
found and ironically waits ROOTDELAY for the rootfs to appear... but this
cannot happen since lvm2 only is responsible for volume activation.

Just as in pre_mountroot(), I suggest to wait for the logical volume to appear.
I attached a patch with a working solution: it scans with lvscan until the
logical volume appears or until ROOTDELAY is reached. Note that in case
detection fails after ROOTDELAY it does not return and it still tries to
activate volume in order to inform the user with the error (unable to find LVM
volume).

Bug#570593: devicekit-disks: devkit-disks-daemon defunct: cd automount doesn't work

2010-02-19 Thread Peter Weiss
Package: devicekit-disks

Severity: important

Automount of cd-rom in gnome doesn't work anymore on two different machines at
nearly the same update level.

Automount in KDE works well. Also is it possible to detect and mount the disks
with "devkit-disks --poll-for-media"

One thing is strange: I recognized that when only one cd-drive is installed
everything works fine.

Why do you guys even try to "bump" anything here? I've already given an
explanation, in this very bug report, not too long ago, of what I'd need
to be able to update, and as long as that's not available, no amount of
"bumping" or "pinging" on *this* package is going to make one bit of
difference. Not unless you first manage to get the package I've
previously explained I'm waiting for an update to, to finally get updated.

The fix in 3.6.5-1 was just a workaround which broke any system not
running UTF-8. 3.6.5-2 fixes the problem at it's root.

That shouldn't happen there must be another bug hidden somewhere. Please
provide the following information:

1. The output of the `locale` command
2. cat /var/lib/vdradmin-am/vdradmind.conf | grep LANG
3. cat /etc/default/vdr | grep VDR_
4. cat /etc/default/locale | egrep 'LC|LANG'
5. cat /etc/environment | egrep 'LC|LANG'

Good news: I fixed that, and I am going to maintain this package. Now,
that bad news is that I am not a Debian Developper, so the fixed package
will only be uploaded to Debian when I find a DD to review and upload
it.

The man page explicitly recommends zeroing si_pid and checking for a
nonzero value, the way parallel does.

If parallel called waitid() with no child to wait for, then it would
have a bug in its control logic (ie, a fencepost bug) that would probably
manifest in other ways than the exit code; such as running too many or
too few parallel processes.

At this point all I have is speculation that parallel is broken, but
nothing to go on to fix it. I'll need a command line, a test case, a
strace, or *something*.

Yes, indeed. Thank you for your patch. I am going to maintain this

FWIW: I completely agree. If libfile-copy-recursive-perl >= 0.38 is
needed and there are older versions in the archive then a versioned
dependency is warranted.

This is caused by the fact that the epstopdf program was moved from the
texlive-extra-utils into the texlive-font-utils in unstable. Adding the
later to Build-Depends-Indep should fix the present bug.

I am no more a DD, so if a good soul from the Debian Scientific Computing
Team is lurking this bug report, please fix it.

Bug#511417: Raid1 resync does not run in the background

I do now.
I'm quite surprised though. Any attempted by other programs to access the
devices should cause the resync to slow down the the "min" value which is
really quite slow.
So my guess is that something is going wrong with the detection of "other
programs accessing the device".

Can you tell me a bit about the configuration of your storage - what devices,
what connections, and LVM in use, what raid levels, partitions, etc.

Michael,

Thanks for surfacing this issue, I have forwarded the issue upstream as you may
of seen from my earlier email.

One issue is that for '--without-included-ltdl' to work, it needs to be
supported in the configure script, which in a lot of cases it isn't :-(

I have been revewing a few packages which rdepend on libltdt7 to see how they
have setup configure to address this issue.

Something like:

configure.ac:
dnl
dnl Check for libltdl
dnl
AC_CHECK_LIB([ltdl],[lt_dlinit],,
[AC_MSG_ERROR([[libltdl not found]])])

Will perform the check, but then things get complicated in terms of changing
paths, ensuring that the imbedded copy doesn't get built/ linked against.

Do you have any code snippets from best practise for using the system provided
libltdl?

Thanks,
Mark

I think it's best if bash handles it.

The link above is useless in this case: the file isn't supposed to be modified
by the user (in fact, it should belong to /usr/share/, we're already working
on this upstream), so the maintainer shouldn't care about possible changes. I
believe just removing the file if the version from which the user is upgrading
is 3.1dfsg-9 is sufficient. I'm reassigning the bug.

Kindly,
David

Bug#570589: iceweasel: Double clicking the url/awesome bar crashes Iceweasel

2010-02-19 Thread Diederik de Haas

Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.5.8-1
Severity: normal

When I double click on the url/awesome bar, Iceweasel crashes.
This did not happen before the upgrade to 3.5.8-1, so till 3.5.6-2 it worked
normally.

I haven't done a stacktrace before, so I hope I've done it correctly (see
attachment).
And I don't know if it's normal when having a debugger attached, but the crash
didn't
happen then, but I could also not normally close iceweasel. Stopping the
debugger also
stopped Iceweasel.

2010-02-19 Thread Andreas U. Trottmann
Hello,

I can confirm that on amd64 / x86_64, this package does not
build. As far as I can tell, the error message is correct, and
indeed libipq.a must be built with -fPIC.

My knowledge about debbugs is a little rusty, but it should be
appropriate to reassign this bug to the iptables-dev package
which contains libipq.a

The following patch against the iptables_1.4.2-6 source (which is
used to build iptables-dev) fixes the problem and makes perlipq
build on amd64:

Bug#568106: programs belong in /usr/bin/

2010-02-19 Thread Pierre Chifflier
Hi all,

I'm adding David (pgTAP author) in CC: of this discussion.

David: this is about finding if binaries (pg_prove and pg_tapgen) should
be stored in /usr/bin (if it is common to all postgresql versions) or in
/usr/lib/postgresql/*/bin if it is version-specific.
The complete discussion can be found here:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=568106

If it's version specific, I think I should add the version to the name
of the binary package.

BR,
Pierre

Bug#564190: Response for postgresql

2010-02-19 Thread Martin Pitt
Hello Nabil,

Nabil Servais [2010-02-18 22:29 +0100]:
> After discussion, we will wait the next release of postgresql.
> But how I could participate for avoid this sort of regressions?

Binaries go to testing-proposed-updates in Debian for a while before
they land in -updates. Similarly, in Ubuntu the updates stay in
-proposed for a while, where they get tested, before they move to
-updates. Feedback, in particular about regressions, is highly
appreciated for those. Upstreams' QA is generally pretty good, and we
have a range of automatic test cases as well, but unfortunately these
do not cover every corner case.

Thanks,

Martin

We use it as part of the buildd triggers, I guess it's not
easy to run this yourself. I estimate that it returned 0 in about
5% of the time, so failed in 95% of the cases.

Like I said it probably will, but I'm not sure there is any
guarantee in that case. In any case I think it's a bad idea
to not look at the return value.

Which is my main problem. It probably calls waitid() when there
nothing to wait for anymore or something like that. In any case
that "return -1" is my problem.

You're right, I thought it was different with waitid(), just saw
strace showing it as -1.

I'm a bit confused by pgtap on first sight. It builds against a
particular server version (8.4), but does not itself have a versioned
package name, and only links/depends on libpq5, no server.

 * Is pgtap client side only, in other words, does it work with
several server versions? In that case, binaries should go to
/usr/bin, as Peter and Ben suggested.

 * If this is a server-side extension, i. e. is linked against a
particular server version and won't work with any other, then the
binary should have a versioned name, and we need to manage the
   binaries through pg_wrapper.

Please see /usr/share/doc/postgresql-common/architecture.html for some
more details about how this is designed.

Thanks, and have a good weekend,

Martin

P.S. Just don't let you confuse with "Use appropriate ‘debian/dirs’
file for single-package source". Using an explicit package name, such
as debian/pgtap.dirs is just fine, and causes less confusion if you
ever add a second binary package.

Yes, the executable bit was lost when trasmitting the diff. A patch is
included that ensures the helper is executable. Meanwhile, you can fix
this by using
chmod 0755 /usr/lib/ConsoleKit/run-seat.d/nvidia_helper.ck
/lib/udev/nvidia_helper

No, I'm not sure of that. I'm quite happy for the correct solution to
be implemented, whether it's the patch I proposed or something else.

Consistency in the treatment of these binaries is valuable.

is more likely to be in the wrong.

The signature for that function is:
   FriBidiLevel fribidi_log2vis
   (
const FriBidiChar *str,
const FriBidiStrIndex len,
FriBidiParType *pbase_dir,
FriBidiChar *visual_str,
FriBidiStrIndex *positions_L_to_V,
FriBidiStrIndex *positions_V_to_L,
FriBidiLevel *embedding_levels
   );

str is the input string, and len is the length of this string; str need
not be terminated with a 0 character. In 0.10.9, the visual_str buffer
would have had to be len+1 characters long because fribidi_log2vis would
write a 0 character at visual_str[len]. In 0.19.2 it no longer does
this, which matches the semantics of the input string. But it doesn't
seem to be documented which behavior is intended. I even went to the
upstream CVS, and it seems that this behavior was silently changed in a
rather large code refactoring on 2004-06-07.

At line 295 of newt.c, newt calls fribidi_log2vis passing the length of
the input string (not counting the terminating 0 character) and never
makes sure that the output buffer is actually terminated. In 0.10.9 this
worked fine, but now with 0.19.2 you end up with random garbage after
the button texts.

One simple fix would be to just set out[len] = 0 at line 296 to ensure
proper string termination.

Bug#562012: squid3: Memory filling during file download

2010-02-19 Thread lepton0
Hello,

to reproduce this bug try to run this commands :
{ echo -ne "HTTP/1.1 200 OK\r\nVary: *\r\n\r\n"; while [ 1 ]; do echo -n
'a'; done } | nc -l 80

and then connect to http://localhost using squid.

I believe that following patch should solve the problem :

Bug#570558: lintian: not reporting dh-clean-k-is-deprecated

So far as I can see, there isn't a problem here:

| $ lintian-info -t dh-clean-k-is-deprecated
| N: dh-clean-k-is-deprecated
| N:
| N: This package calls dh_clean -k in its debian/rules file and declares a
| N: debhelper compatibility version of at least 7.
| N:
| N: debhelper 7 deprecated dh_clean -k in favour of dh_prep.
| N:
| N: Refer to the dh_clean(1) manual page for details.
|
| $ cat mantis-1.1.8+dfsg/debian/compat
| 5
|
| $ grep debhelper mantis-1.1.8+dfsg/debian/control
| Build-Depends: debhelper (>= 5), quilt, po-debconf

"dh_clean -k" was deprecated in debhelper compatibility level 7. mantis
declares that it follows compatibility level 5, where running "dh_clean
-k" is perfectly acceptable.

Unless I've missed something, I believe this bug should be closed as
lintian's behaviour is correct.

Regards,

Adam

Bug#570579: xulrunner: please reconsider recommends for GNOME packages

2010-02-19 Thread Frans Pop
Package: xulrunner
Version: 1.9.1.8-2
Severity: important
Tags: d-i
X-Debbugs-CC: task...@packages.debian.org

I was very surprised when I upgraded a KDE system to find that xulrunner
tried to pull in all sorts of GNOME packages. It was quite a bit of work
to unselect everything that got pulled in through those Recommends.

I'm talking about the Recommends for:
- libdbus-glib-1-2
- libgconf2-4
- libgnome2-0
- libgnomeui-0
- libgnomevfs2-0
And the deps for those packages are far from trivial.

I guess the change was introduced in 1.9.1.6-2 with:
   Merge xulrunner-1.9.1-gnome-support into xulrunner-1.9.1.

But I question if the Recommends of those packages is policy compliant as
Recommends should only be used for packages "that would be found together
with this one in all but unusual installations" [1].
And that's only true for systems running a GNOME desktop environment. For
systems running KDE the GNOME packages are not needed and even in a lot of
cases very much not desired.

I also question the value of the Recommends: if a user is running GNOME
they will all be installed already anyway!

As Debian Installer now installs Recommends by default and the desktop
tasks installs iceweasel for all desktops, this means that all those GNOME
packages would get installed on KDE desktop systems by default,

As iceweasel is supposed to be desktop environment independent, I urge you
to reconsider this change. IMO the current Recommends make iceweasel
unsuitable for default installation.
I also feel that for packages like iceweasel integration support for
specific desktop environments should always be optional.

Cheers,
FJP
