Here on amd64 private browsing doesn't work. When 'Private Browsing'
 gets selected in menu,
the warning about changing to private mode appears, but on clicking
 OK there is no further
action. The warning disappears and nothing happens. I'm afraid, I
 can't provide any traces
 because iceweasel-dbg is still v3.5.6.

Extra in "related to OOo". I mean, you have already one extension
package for OOo installed (-report-builder is not in the "standard set"
you would get when you did apt-get install openoffice.org)

Aha. And what if you installed a Debian kernel and then tried a upgrade?
Besides that, doesn't udev say what kernel it needs? At least it should
survive a 2.6.26 -> 2.6.3x upgrade as that is what will happen for Debian
stable users anyway.

Anyway, you didn't answer. What did you try to install OOo 3.2 on what
for a system? (package list if possible)

Hi!

There is something strange with the version informations in this bug.
white did report the bug with a version string which was used for the
NMU that zack did. This left the bug with only a fixed version and no
found version - meaning that the BTS thinks that _all_ previous versions
are affected by it.

I hope that my control message fixes the issue, I'll check the version
graph after the mail was received and hope that I can clean up the
issue so that the bug can both get marked as not affecting stable
(anymore) and also get archived properly (within the usual timeframe).

Thanks, and sorry for the inconvenience!

Bug#479708: [Pkg-javascript-devel] Bug#479708: ITP: xinha -- powerful WYSIWYG HTML editor

2010-03-01 Thread Hector Romojaro
Hi Marcelo,

Sorry for the delay, I've been talking with the upstream authors of both
dotlrn and openacs about using the xinha debian package instead of
providing their own one. They are using at least two own xinha plugins,
and may have modified others as well.

Should i join pkg-javascript to talk about it in its proper place :-)?

Cheers, Héctor

It looks at the _changes_ from --since up to HEAD (tip of the current
branch). However it makes sure that you're on "debian-branch" which is
indeed 'master' by default. If you're on a different branch it issues a
warning and aborts, trying to make sure you don't record changes from a
different branch.

Russ is running a large number of clients, I'm using storedconfigs with
mysql, have since they first came available and am running 0.25 right
now. I didn't need to setup any special ApacheMQ or puppetqd, but I have
a dedicated machine for puppetmaster and the storedconfigs database is
specifically only used for puppet on that machine. The client numbers
are probably also crucial here, I suspect Russ' numbers are much more
than mine, and you should always expect scaling issues and have to
adjust accordingly.

However, I *think* Bastian is perhaps asking if there are any known
working storedconfig setups with postgresql?

With puppet 0.24.8 I used stored configurations with postgresql
extensively, and with no trouble.

With 0.25.x, it seems I have to add puppetqd to make it not fall apart;
within minutes I had thousands and thousands of postgresql connections,
but have not managed to find out exactly why yet.

Bug#570581: garbage in buttons with fribidi 0.19.2-1

2010-03-01 Thread Daniel Kahn Gillmor
Package: whiptail
Version: 0.52.10-5+b1
Severity: normal

i'm also seeing the weird garbage in buttons in whiptail dialogs with
libfribidi0 0.19.2-1. If the data there is potentially random, it
could at some point emit terminal control characters, which would be a
particularly nasty surprise in a root terminal (e.g. during a
debconf-generate prompt).

Does that still happen if you get back to 24? Or even better: if you
let autoconfiguration do its job? If that's also gone for other depth
than 16, I'm going to close this bug.

Bug#572172: Input goes haywire with procps update

2010-03-01 Thread Dave Witbrodt
Package: procps
Version: 1:3.2.8-8
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

Upgrading to 3.2.8-8 from 3.2.8-7 causes X software to receive endless
amounts of input. For example, trying to run an email client is
impossible because the password dialog is overwhelmed with input before
I even press a key. Or, opening a text editor causes an endless stream
of whitespace to be entered into the buffer, without me pressing a key.

Downgrading to 3.2.8-7 solves the problem.

Thanks Ron. I'll have to either wait for spring break, or the next

Bug#440027: A patch to keep "consider recommends as dependencies" setting

2010-03-01 Thread Oliver Joos
I have made a patch to fix this bug. Please leave a comment if the
solution is good enough to merge. To test you need to unpack synaptic
0.62.x or later and then do:

$ patch synaptic-0.62.x/common/rconfiguration.cc .patch

The problem I found: synaptic once changed its config location
to /root/.synaptic/synaptic.conf. And because no other tool would ever
read this file, synaptic filters out all config tags that do not start
with "Synaptic::". That's why "APT::Install-Recommends" does not get
stored anymore.

In distros like Ubuntu it was decided in 2008 that the built-in default
"false" is not optimal. Therefore a file /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01ubuntu
was created, containing one line:

APT::Install-Recommends "true";

With that in mind I tried to make my patch as minimal-invasive and
robust as possible: whenever synaptic stores its config, a
file /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99synaptic is also written, containing the
above line ending with "true" if the corresponding checkbox is checked
or "false" otherwise. This file overrides preceding files
like /01ubuntu. And if writing fails for some reason then the only
consequence is a message sent to stderr.

I tested this patch against synaptic-0.62.7 and it works for me.

could you please follow the instructions outlined in the second part

Bug#572170: openoffice.org: when a macro removes a macro library from a doc, the save option is grey

hello friends, rene,

i've done a macro to remove libraries of macros from a document.
the document was saved, so the save option is grey.
i've run the macro, which removed the libraries indeed.
but the save option remained grey as before.

this is the macro:
sub libRemove()
oLibs = ThisComponent.BasicLibraries
If oLibs.hasByName("autocontract") Then
oLibs.removeLibrary("autocontract")
End If
end sub

Bug#572036: libnet-ssh2-ruby1.9.1 and libnet-ssh-ruby1.9.1: error when trying to install together

2010-03-01 Thread Tatsuki Sugiura
Hello,
Thank you for reporting.

Ouch! I didn't notice net-ssh2 was already packaged...
It's my mistake. But I cannot revert version.

So I should remove libnet-ssh-ruby from arhive. Because
net-ssh 2 already packaged, net-ssh 1 was not needed basically.

Extra in what regard? I can't do an apt-get upgrade or apt-get
dist-upgrade because of udev problems (I compile my own kernels
here, and I am still trying to get around to getting a "modern"
enough kernel that udev can work with). I don't NEED any extra
packages, as most of what I do personally is emacs/LaTeX or
emacs/DocBook. But, I often install other stuff because it helps
if someone sends me a DOC (or other M$ file).

Hi,

I've already tried the new 2.6.32 kernel and it works well. Actually the
2.6.27 kernel was already fixed (after a few .x updates). However the
problem was also present in Network-Manager in lenny, but this is fixed in
the version I found in lenny-backports. It's definitely fixed in
Squeeze...but the problem remains in Debian plain stable.

Bug#572162: iceweasel: hangs and consumes 100% of the CPU on exit

2010-03-01 Thread Raphael Geissert
Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.5.8-1
Severity: important

Hi,

I think that since the last version that reached testing, on exit, iceweasel
(firefox-bin actually) hangs consuming 100% of the CPU.

During normal execution I see one parent firefox-bin process and 10 childs, but
when closing iceweasel and the bug presents there's only the parent and one
child. The parent is the one consuming the CPU resources.

Stracing the parent shows a zillion executions of the following call:
poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN|POLLOUT}], 1, -1) = 1 ([{fd=3, revents=POLLNVAL}])

The child process on the other hand does this over and over again:
futex(0xb703d388, FUTEX_WAIT_PRIVATE, 367, {0, 999711540}) = -1 ETIMEDOUT
(Connection timed out)
gettimeofday({1267493322, 25064}, NULL) = 0
futex(0xb70618e0, FUTEX_WAKE_PRIVATE, 1) = 0
clock_gettime(CLOCK_REALTIME, {1267493322, 25288739}) = 0

The only solution is to manually kill the two processes, otherwise it is even
impossible to launch iceweasel again.

This is under KDE, in case it makes any difference (which I don't think, but
you never know).

Cheers,

Bug#563963: ann: diff for NMU version 1.1.1+doc-2.2

2010-03-01 Thread Simon McVittie
The -2.2 NMU doesn't seem to be in DELAYED, but in any case the given patch
does indeed looks very hackish, and shouldn't be necessary if libtool is
working correctly.

It seems to be possible to fix it without rummaging in .libs, by removing
AC_DISABLE_FAST_INSTALL from (the patch that adds) configure.ac.

We're running 0.24 with stored configs enabled. We had to set up ApacheMQ
and puppetqd to make it work, though, since enabling stored configs
directly in the puppetmaster caused them to fall apart under any load
whatsoever.

We still see regular MySQL connection errors from the puppetmasters, but
it's down to a dull roar.

This is with 0.24, though; we haven't yet upgraded to 0.25.

Do you expect the ctte to override the severity or demand a specific
fix? The former can be done, but the latter will (almost certainly)
require a patch before that happens.

Bug#572158: live-helper: Allow installation of i386 debs with amd64 images

2010-03-01 Thread Patrick Matthäi
Package: live-helper
Version: 2.0~a8-1
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

we are using live-helper as disaster recovery CD and update CD for firmwares
delivered by HP.
All the HP firmware updates (also the HP RAID maintenance tools like hpacucli)
need the deprecated libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2_2.95.4-27_i386.deb library to work.

Installing this package from etch work on both systems, lenny and squeeze for
the updates.. Anyway we have to include it with our recovery CDs.

In the live helper faq there is described, how to add my own deb's to the
live-cd (copying it to the specific chroot folder), that is working, if the
deb == build-arch.

Anyway I tried to build an amd64 image with
libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2_2.95.4-27_i386.deb,
but live-helper ignores this deb file, because i386 != amd64 (without any
warning).

I would wish, that live-helper is also able to add i386 debs to amd64 builds.

Could you please copy/paste the *exact* compilation error.
I believe this is due to the fact that CMake does transitive linking.
If a library Foo links against libtcl8.5.so.0, there are cases where
cmake will try to link to both -lFoo and -ltcl8.5 when -lFoo only is
sufficient.

As a simple work-around one need to install the -dev package for tcl8.5

I think the problem is that it doesn't support `GETINFO pid` correctly. When I
remove that from gpg-agent I get the password window and the rest works as
expected.

So please implement GETINFO correctly for >= gnupg2_2.0.9. I move that up to
serious because this makes it complete unusable for everyone using it with
gpg-agent.

Hi,

as a "workaround" you could install the console-setup package (I tried
1.53, but older versions might work, too) which replaces the
functionality of /etc/init.d/keymap.sh from console-common and does no
longer cause the boot process to be interactive for serial console UTF-8
setups (previously requiring Ctrl-C to abort a blocking unicode_start).

While this is sad, that's good to know.

If you have a few more minutes, it'd be very nice if you could report
this bug on upstream's bugzilla following instructions at [1], Cc'ing
me, so that I can mark this bug as forwarded there.

 1. http://intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html

What could be of some help to make sure you're getting almost all
messages: ssh from another box, install the various libdrm*dbg,
*-intel-dbg, -core-dbg, and attach X inside gdb. This might help you
get a backtrace if X is segfaulting and if no other traces of that are
kept.

G'luck.

Bug#572048: tomcat6: fails to start after upgrade to v6.0.24-2

2010-03-01 Thread Ludovic Claude
Hello Teodor,

The changes were motivated by the fact that jscv is unreliable (see
#561559) and is hard to use when you need to setup Tomcat with ports <
1024. Upstream maintains the catalina.sh script and recommends its use.
We were kindly assisted by a Tomcat expert (Jason Brittain from
MuleSoft) in this transition. With this script, it is now possible to
use authbind easily if the ports are under 1024.

Can you give me more details about your setup. It looks like an upgrade,
so what other packages or webapps have you installed? Can you provide
the Tomcat logs in /var/log/tomcat6.

Thanks,
Ludovic

Bug#572155: dh_pysupport: does not properly detect strange default Python versions

2010-03-01 Thread Jonathan Wiltshire
Package: python-support
Version: 1.0.6.1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

If /usr/bin/python is not a symlink to python*, dh_pysupport always evaluates
it to be smaller than the supported versions, and so generates a dependency
like this: "Depends: python (>= 2.5) | python2.5". This is undesirable.

The attached patch avoid reinventing the wheel by using pyversions to get the
current default version. If pyversions returns an error code, so does
dh_pysupport; otherwise it uses the version that pyversions declared to be the
default. This behaviour alerts the maintainer to a problem with their build
environment.

Note: my Perl is not strong, so feel free to implement it differently, or to
change the error string.

Bug#100808: mawk: gsub doesn't respect ^ when the pattern matches the empty string

Jonathan Nieder wrote:

Sigh. Since anchors can appear in the middle of a regex, it is not
nearly so simple as that.

Here’s a fixup to the patch from 1.3.3-20090727. It only addressed
the problem for anchored regexps (anchored at the start) matching the
empty string.

The POSIX regexec() function provides a REG_NOTBOL flag for cases
like this. mawk needs to expose it when using an external regex
and implement it for the internal one.

-- %< --
Subject: [PATCH] gsub: Fix match of anchored regexp

A start anchor in first argument to gsub is being ignored in some
cases:

 $ echo aa | mawk '{ str = $0; gsub(/^a/, "MATCH", str); print str; }
 MATCHMATCH

To handle repeat matches, gsub runs recursively on the rest of the
string. If the rest of the string starts with the anchored
expression, gsub can make spurious matches. So check for this case
and reject the matches.

The same problem could occur if an _unanchored_ regexp matches the
empty string: after a legitimate match, gsub would run recursively on
the rest of the string and match again. Luckily, Mike Brennan already
handles this and has skipped those matches since version 0.97 (maybe
even earlier). ;-)

The solution: after a legitimate match, reject anchored matches just
as if they were empty. This was half-implemented in mawk
1.3.3-20090727, but the fix only applied to anchored _empty_ matches.

Even this patch is not enough to handle such complicated examples such
as

 echo aa | mawk '{ str = $0; gsub(/(^a)/, "MATCH", str); print str; }

Hi

As I consider this issue much more severe than #500454 and it looks like
*nothing* has happened. Even a revert would have been better. And at the same
time maintainer has a track record of ignoring non-rc bugs.

Please override the maintainer.

Hi,
The next release of Debian (6.0, code name Squeeze) will be based
on 2.6.32. Please test the current 2.6.32 from unstable/testing and tell
us whether the problem persists. If so, we should report it upstream
to the kernel.org developers.

be installed in both Debian stable, testing and unstable
installations.

Bug#572144: lshell: The default configuration allows run every system command

Thank you for reporting this. You are absolutely right that the
default configuration of lshell permits this, and it should not.

I have already corrected this bug in the upcoming version of lshell.

A temporary fix would be to add "$" in the forbidden list:
---8<---8<---
## a list of forbidden character or commands
forbidden : [';', '&', '|','>','<', '$']
---8<---8<---

I am working on getting the new version out very soon.

Kind regards,
 Ignace M

i don't think it's a policy violation.

should be included at all)

This stuff is so messy in the Pd sources, I think its hard to say that
its a private header. There should be a distinction between private
and public, but there isn't really in practice.

- miller has a _very_ ugly naming scheme, that is non-standard at
best.

the names of the header-files are meaningless and will only cause
confusion for about everybody else.

I can't argue with the ugliness. I think the problems caused by
omitting the header will cause more confusion than including it. I
don't think many people browse /usr/include for headers that to include.

- i think, header-files should actually be packaged in a puredata-dev
package

Yes, I agree. I have no objections to that idea whatsoever. I think
that should happen in conjunction with the creation of a pd-common
package that includes pdsend, pdreceive, the directory structure for
installing, and the /etc/init.d/puredata /etc/default/puredata scripts.

I think it is still worth it to accept this version of the 'puredata'
package as a stepping stone towards the puredata-dev. idea.

Arnout, what's the status of this bug? Did it reoccur, did you switch to a more
recent kernel? If so, does the problem persist?

That sounds like a good idea.

Which also applies to "qmake" (as it is now) as well. "qmake-qt4" is at
least consistent on all Debian Systems, without needing a
Build-Conflicts on Qt3's qmake.

Bug#567606: virt-manager: Still seeing something like this on 0.8.3-2

2010-03-01 Thread Alex

Hi Cole,

On 03/01/2010 03:12 AM, Cole Robinson wrote:

I cannot choose bridged networking when creating a VM with virt-manager
connecting to a remote box. If I use X forwarding to run virt-manager on the
vm machine, I can choose the bridged network devices.

Remote bridge enumeration depends on libvirt interface support, which depends
on netcf, which I don't think knows how to speak debian network configuration.

Running 'virsh iface-list' should show your bridge on the remote host: if it
doesn't, virt-manager won't offer it as an install option.

Hmmm, it's weird, indeed:

case:~# virsh iface-list
error: Failed to list active interfaces
error: this function is not supported by the hypervisor:
virConnectNumOfInterfaces
Yes, it does not work, but virt-manager running on the host lists the
bridged network interface- and choosing it works. But virt-manager
connecting to the hypervisor through ssh, does not.

Cheers,

Alex

Is there still a request for the ctte to override the maintainer on
the severity of this bug?

FWICT, Anibal agrees that this is a bug, and currently the only issue
is how to best fix both it and #500454.

I also tried lenny+openoffice.org+openoffice.org-report-builder to
squeeze and then (after fixing the java-gcj-compat mess[1]) to sid[2].

Also works

Grüße/Regards,

René

[1] apt-get install gcj-jdk gcj-jre gcj-jre-headless
[2] a direct lenny->sid upgrade would (probably due to the same mess)
remove -report-builder, -writer2latex etc.

Bug#158481: mawk: Crash when using gsub

Morgon Kanter wrote:

> At least we know the problem. Seems like a stack overflow error to me.

Yes. In case someone is interested in working on this:

gsub() was written in a bit of a quick and dirty way as far as I can
tell. It is recursive, but it does not need to be.

Overview of current gsub():

 1. Look for a match. No match → hoorah!
 2. Copy the replacement string.
 3. Okay, we found a match.
IF the match was an empty match at the start of the string
and such matches are disallowed (they are allowed for the
first match):
case 1: The whole string is empty. Throw away the replacement
string. The modified string will be empty, too.

case 2: The regexp to match was anchored. Throw away the
  replacement string.  There can be no more matches;
the modified string is the current string.

case 3: Unanchored match. Throw away the replacement string.
The match was disallowed, so we have to start matching
with the next character. So save the first character
from the source string in the buffer for the replacement
string and call gsub() to deal with the rest.
OTHERWISE (i.e., the match is not at the start of the string,
or empty matches at start are allowed):
  a. Front consists of all characters up to the match.
  a. Figure out the value to substitute (replacing the &s
with copies of the matched string)
  b. Call gsub() on the rest of the string.
 4. Concatenate the three pieces (front, middle, and back) and
return the result.

So there are many fronts and middles for previous stack frames
being collected, but it would be perfectly reasonable to collect
them all in one go. If the string to collect them is allowed to
grow quickly enough, it would avoid a lot of unnecessary copying.

Hope that helps,
Jonathan
