Bug#572433: scsiadd: Scsiadd ignores command line arguments that it doesn't understand
Package: scsiadd Version: 1.96-1.1 Severity: normal Scsiadd provides a great way to accidentally remove the primary hard drive, as it seems to ignore command line arguments that it doesn't understand, rather than failing with an error message. This means that if someone typos the host value, they can end up with the channel number being interpreted as a host number. Been there, done that. Bug#572439: SA-CORE-2010-001 - Drupal core - Multiple vulnerabilities
package: drupal6 severity: critical tags: security * Advisory ID: DRUPAL-SA-CORE-2010-001 * Project: Drupal core * Version: 5.x, 6.x * Date: 2010-March-03 * Security risk: Critical * Exploitable from: Remote * Vulnerability: Multiple vulnerabilities DESCRIPTION - Multiple vulnerabilities and weaknesses were discovered in Drupal. Installation cross site scripting A user-supplied value is directly output during installation allowing a malicious user to craft a URL and perform a cross-site scripting attack. The exploit can only be conducted on sites not yet installed. This issue affects Drupal 6.x only. Open redirection The API function drupal_goto() is susceptible to a phishing attack. An attacker could formulate a redirect in a way that gets the Drupal site to send the user to an arbitrarily provided URL. No user submitted data will be sent to that URL. This issue affects Drupal 5.x and 6.x. Locale module cross site scripting Locale module and dependent contributed modules do not sanitize the display of language codes, native and English language names properly. While these usually come from a preselected list, arbitrary administrator input is allowed. This vulnerability is mitigated by the fact that the attacker must have a role with the 'administer languages' permission. This issue affects Drupal 5.x and 6.x. Blocked user session regeneration Under certain circumstances, a user with an open session that is blocked can maintain his/her session on the Drupal site, despite being blocked. This issue affects Drupal 5.x and 6.x. VERSIONS AFFECTED --- * Drupal 6.x before version 6.16. * Drupal 5.x before version 5.22. SOLUTION Install the latest version: * If you are running Drupal 6.x then upgrade to Drupal 6.16 [1]. * If you are running Drupal 5.x then upgrade to Drupal 5.22 [2]. Drupal 5 will no longer be maintained when Drupal 7 is released [3]. Upgrading to Drupal 6 [4] is recommended. If you are unable to upgrade immediately, you can apply a patch to secure your installation until you are able to do a proper upgrade. These patches fix the security vulnerabilities, but do not contain other fixes which were released in Drupal 6.16 or Drupal 5.22. * To patch Drupal 6.15 use SA-CORE-2010-001-6.15.patch [5]. * To patch Drupal 5.21 use SA-CORE-2010-001-5.21.patch [6]. REPORTED BY - The installation cross site scripting issue was reported by David Rothstein [7] (*). The open redirection was reported by Martin Barbella [8]. The locale module cross site scripting was reported by Justin Klein Keane [9]. The blocked user session regeneration issue was reported by Craig A. Hancock [10]. (*) Member of the Drupal security team. FIXED BY The installation cross site scripting issue was fixed by Heine Deelstra [11]. The open redirection was fixed by Gerhard Killesreiter [12] and Heine Deelstra [13]. The locale module cross site scripting was fixed by Stéphane Corlosquet [14], Peter Wolanin [15], Heine Deelstra [16] and Neil Drumm [17]. The blocked user session regeneration issue was fixed by Gerhard Killesreiter [18]. All the fixes were done by members of the Drupal security team. Here is the patch, please check it. Hey, thanks for that. Did you check the themes were indeed looking the same before and after? Oh, trying this themes with widget factory brought me to the problem :) The patched themes really differ, especially progressbar and toggle and check buttons. Obviously simply changing hilight_ratio to highlight_shade doesn't do the things. I'll try to figure it out about this. Unfortunately I' not gnome or gtk developer and can't quickly fix this bug. Bug#572442: sparc 2.6.29+ NMI watchdog deadlock on Sun Fire V240 etc
Package: linux-2.6 Severity: serious Tags: upstream patch Hi there, Ever since kernel 2.6.29 came out, several classes of sparc machines have been unable to upgrade, because they would get stuck while initializing the new NMI watchdog code. The process of trying to figure it out is mostly documented in this long-running mailing list thread that spanned many months: http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2009/08/msg5.html http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2009/09/msg00018.html http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2009/10/msg00015.html http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2009/11/msg00034.html http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2009/12/msg0.html Had this gone unattended, sparc release requalification might have been in trouble, because the bug affects the Fire V240 sparc buildd machines as well as Jurij Smakov's test machine, and that's a lot in our little universe :) Fortunately David Miller came to the rescue and personally debugged the problem on one of the buildds, and fixed the problem. His solution, that we are currently running on schroeder.debian.org, is attached. Please include the patch in the sparc kernel package so that we can test it widely, preferably ASAP. TIA. - Forwarded message from David Miller da...@davemloft.net - Date: Wed, 03 Mar 2010 09:11:41 -0800 (PST) Subject: Re: Sparc release requalification Ok, I think I fixed it. Attached are two versions of the fix, the first attachment is for 2.6.33 and the second one is for any kernel 2.6.32 and previous. Give it a good test on any machine you've seen this problem on and let me know how it goes. Thanks. From 8a4fd1e4922413cfdfa6c51a59efb720d904a5eb Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: David S. Bug#572446: installation-report: unusual configuration fails to boot after installation
Package: installation-reports Version: 2.38 Severity: normal So I thought for sure this would work: PXE boot the installation system http://people.debian.org/~joeyh/d-i/images/daily/netboot/netboot.tar.gz Do the install, and configure the two 18GB SCSI disks as follows: /dev/md0 raid1 swap /dev/md1 raid0 xfs / Each raid volume is made up of two partitions, and those two volumes are the only ones on the system. Installation completed, however on stable/lenny, I get an error trying to install grub to the MBR of the first disk. It worked (or appeared to work) on this latest testing version. Anyway, it cannot boot that way, which I sort of figured, so I intended to PXE boot the kernel and initrd all along. I set that up, but it fails to mount the root filesystem. Problem 1: It fails to load the sd-mod module, so there are no SCSI disks, so of course it can't initialize the raid subsystem and mount /. Problem 2: On testing/squeeze, even if I load sd-mod by hand, and then try to re-run scripts/local-top/mdadm, I get a bunch of errors saying there is no raid signature on sda or sdb. Bizarre. You're stuck at that point, there's nothing you can do. I was able to hack the initramfs on lenny and get the netbooting to work. Just adding the sd-mod to the modules file didn't get it done, so I grossly hacked scripts/local-top/mdadm in the initramsfs to load sd- mod and then wait for 15 seconds. That seemed to do the trick, although it still doesn't find the root filesystem right away, it goes asleep for 10-15 seconds, then finds it and proceeds. I built the initramfs with the following command on the system using rescue-mode: mkinitramfs -r /dev/md1 -o /boot/initrd.img-2.6.26-2-686-netboot 2.6.26-2-686 -- Package-specific info: Boot method: network Image version: current stable/lenny and this week's and last week's testing Date: 15-02-2010 Machine: dual P-III Tualatin 2GiB server Partitions: hurricane:~# df -Tl FilesystemType 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/md1 xfs34827776583376 34244400 2% / tmpfstmpfs 1038192 0 1038192 0% /lib/init/rw udev tmpfs 10240 592 9648 6% /dev tmpfstmpfs 1038192 0 1038192 0% /dev/shm hurricane:~# swapon -s FilenameTypeSize UsedPriority /dev/md0partition 497848 0 -1 hurricane:~# fdisk -l /dev/sda Disk /dev/sda: 18.3 GB, 18351959040 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 2231 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0x83098309 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 1 62 497983+ fd Linux raid autodetect /dev/sda2 63223117422492+ fd Linux raid autodetect hurricane:~# fdisk -l /dev/sdb Disk /dev/sdb: 18.3 GB, 18351959040 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 2231 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0xec77eac0 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 1 62 497983+ fd Linux raid autodetect /dev/sdb2 63223117422492+ fd Linux raid autodetect Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot: [O] Detect network card:[O] Configure network: [O] Detect CD: [O] Load installer modules: [O] Detect hard drives: [O] Partition hard drives: [O] Install base system:[O] Clock/timezone setup: [O] User/password setup:[O] Install tasks: [O] Install boot loader:[E] Overall install:[E] Comments/Problems: I was able to hack my way around the problem in lenny. Bug#504623: Java AWT and non-reparenting WMs
Is this a symptom of the problem mentioned here: http://awesome.naquadah.org/wiki/Problems_with_Java If so, given that this bug keeps popping up: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=568509 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=496812 and will continue to do so until the JDK7 version that finally fixes it gets widely deployed, perhaps the READMEs for the various Java packages should have mention of the relevant fix, depending on the version of Java in question (as per the awesome wiki page). It would probably help if it was also mentioned on the Debian Wiki, as at present it's not at all obvious what's causing this problem (at least it took me ages to find the various places where it's mentioned). Bug#570766: System hangs on X startup (855GM, KMS disabled)
Richard Kojedzinszky kri...@cflinux.hu (04/03/2010): Dear Cyril, Hi, I've not tested older kernels with modeset=1 option, but the truth is that with a debian upgrade did things go wrong. most likely either the X server upgrade or the -intel upgrade; many users reported such issues. I will test with an older one, with modeset=1 also. I will report the results. Anyway, could you please tell me where can i find older xserver-xorg-video-intel packages? I think the way forward is finding what happens with recent kernels (and recent X components), so that they can be fixed if needed. Bug#572452: git-buildpackage: git-import-org --fast-import does not look up realname of current user
Package: git-buildpackage Version: 0.4.65~3.gbp3ceaa3 Severity: minor Hi, I thought to try --fast-import, since I had some problems with normal import adding files that were ignored by upstreams .gitignore (and thus didn't show up in git status when I cleaned the tree before importing). Anyway, after importing using --fast-import, I noticed that it had created the upstream import commit using just my username as author name, instead of my full name (from /etc/passwd). Looking at the code, it seems that GitRepository.get_author_info() tries to emulate git's behaviour, but apparently neglects to do a /etc/passwd / NSS lookup when it uses the current username as a name. It seems this is a matter of doing name = pwd.getpwnam(name)[4].split(',')[0] after getting the value of $USER, with some error handling of course. However, isn't there some way to let git do all this stuff instead of recreating git's name guessing algorithms in gbp? That would of course be a lot better and more predictable... Gr. Bug#87515: logrotate never trims its state file
package logrotate severity 87515 normal tags 87515 patch Hi, this bug still exists in version logrotate: 3.7.8-4 While I don't have situations like the one described by the bug reporter, I noticed that on some of my machines the state file gets confusing, since I changed locations of logfiles some times and the old log states remain for ever. As logrotate developed a little bit since the reporting of this bug, solutions of message #10 are not valid anymore. The least frequent rotation is 'yearly' since version 3.7.7-1. A different approach could be flagging the status records of log files we found plus flagging the status records of log files of which rotation is configured with 'missingok' and in the end write out only such state records that got flagged in this way. The downside of this approach is that you loose the states of currently *missing* log files, if their rotation is configured with a glob file name pattern. While loosing the state means only that this log files could possibly get rotated earlier than it would be the case now. What do you think? I attached a patch. You can sent this file privately to me if you don't want expose these information (= which and in which version software is installed on your system) on the internet. (beware: The file is relatively big, so you might want to upload it to a filehoster like rapidshare.com instead of attaching it to a mail) Also of interest is the file /var/log/apt/term.log (can be read only as root) The first paragraph (between Log started: and Log ended:) should be a copy of the lines which lead to the failure resulting in the broken system state you currently have and should help in identifying the evil package. You might suspect it: It would be wonderful if you could post this also. :) Any chance of fixing this or telling me how to remove openoffice.org so I can fix the rest of my system? You can try (after saving the two files for me ;) ) dpkg --configure -a apt-get install -f This might help, if not you can remove the broken packages with dpkg --remove and try again with the two commands above, but please read the manpage and the output of the commands carefully - and if unsure feel free to ask for more help. (make sure to copy the complete exact error messages in this case) After that you should be able to install openoffice with apt-get again. Bug#572483: samba-common: invoke-rc.d warning when doing system shutdown
Package: samba-common Version: 2:3.4.6~dfsg-1 Severity: minor Tags: patch invoke-rc.d warns me during every system shutdown it is invoked in an invalid context. This command is called by /etc/dhcp3/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/samba to reload samba configuration file on DHCP release (my IP address comes from DHCP server). But smbd daemon isn't running anymore at that time (system shutdown). Following patch checks for PID file existence before calling invoke-rc.d and fixes the warning. --- samba.orig 2010-03-04 14:12:00.0 +0100 +++ samba 2010-03-04 14:24:11.0 +0100 @@ -68,7 +68,8 @@ # reload the samba server # We don't necessarily have the samba package installed. #414841 - [ -x /etc/init.d/samba ] /usr/sbin/invoke-rc.d samba reload + # Samba is not always running + [ -x /etc/init.d/samba ] [ -s /var/run/samba/smbd.pid ] /usr/sbin/invoke-rc.d samba reload } -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.33 (SMP w/2 CPU cores; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages samba-common depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.28 Debian configuration management sy ii ucf 3.0025 Update Configuration File: preserv Versions of packages samba-common recommends: ii samba-common-bin 2:3.4.6~dfsg-1 common files used by both the Samb samba-common suggests no packages. -- debconf information: samba-common/encrypt_passwords: true * samba-common/dhcp: false * samba-common/workgroup: WORKGROUP samba-common/do_debconf: true -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
