Bug#572433: scsiadd: Scsiadd ignores command line arguments that it doesn't understand

2010-03-04 Thread Keith
Package: scsiadd
Version: 1.96-1.1
Severity: normal

Scsiadd provides a great way to accidentally remove the primary hard drive, as
it seems to ignore command line arguments that it doesn't understand, rather
than failing with an error message.

This means that if someone typos the host value, they can end up with the
channel number being interpreted as a host number.

Been there, done that.

Twice.

Bug#572435: util-linux: blkid should never report LABEL=

2010-03-04 Thread Frank Lin PIAT
Package: util-linux
Version: 2.16.2-0
Severity: normal

Hi,

On my system, blkid report LABEL= for a FAT partition. That's
certainly something blkid users don't expect (like linux-base).

% blkid /dev/sda6
/dev/sda6: LABEL= UUID=68F6-270E TYPE=vfat
 ^^ouch

Also, I have attached a dump of that partition, which can reproduce the
problem:

% dd if=/dev/sda6.dd of=/tmp/sda6 bs=2048 count=1
% blkid /tmp/sda6.dd
/tmp/sda6.dd: LABEL= UUID=68F6-270E TYPE=vfat

linux-base should not use LABEL=, in the case where blkid provide such

In my /etc/fstab, linux-base has inserted:
 # /dev/sda6 /foobar vfat defaults 0 2
 LABEL=  /foobar vfat defaults 0   2

I haven't rebooted to try it, but it would be weird anyway.

Bug#572439: SA-CORE-2010-001 - Drupal core - Multiple vulnerabilities

2010-03-04 Thread Stefan Hornburg (Racke)

package: drupal6
severity: critical
tags: security

  * Advisory ID: DRUPAL-SA-CORE-2010-001
  * Project: Drupal core
  * Version: 5.x, 6.x
  * Date: 2010-March-03
  * Security risk: Critical
  * Exploitable from: Remote
  * Vulnerability: Multiple vulnerabilities

 DESCRIPTION
-

Multiple vulnerabilities and weaknesses were discovered in Drupal.
 Installation cross site scripting

A user-supplied value is directly output during installation allowing a
malicious user to craft a URL and perform a cross-site scripting attack. The
exploit can only be conducted on sites not yet installed. This issue affects
Drupal 6.x only.
 Open redirection

The API function drupal_goto() is susceptible to a phishing attack. An
attacker could formulate a redirect in a way that gets the Drupal site to
send the user to an arbitrarily provided URL. No user submitted data will be
sent to that URL. This issue affects Drupal 5.x and 6.x.
 Locale module cross site scripting

Locale module and dependent contributed modules do not sanitize the display
of language codes, native and English language names properly. While these
usually come from a preselected list, arbitrary administrator input is
allowed. This vulnerability is mitigated by the fact that the attacker must
have a role with the 'administer languages' permission. This issue affects
Drupal 5.x and 6.x.
 Blocked user session regeneration

Under certain circumstances, a user with an open session that is blocked can
maintain his/her session on the Drupal site, despite being blocked. This
issue affects Drupal 5.x and 6.x.
 VERSIONS AFFECTED
---

  * Drupal 6.x before version 6.16.
  * Drupal 5.x before version 5.22.

 SOLUTION

Install the latest version:
  * If you are running Drupal 6.x then upgrade to Drupal 6.16 [1].
  * If you are running Drupal 5.x then upgrade to Drupal 5.22 [2].

Drupal 5 will no longer be maintained when Drupal 7 is released [3].
Upgrading to Drupal 6 [4] is recommended. If you are unable to upgrade
immediately, you can apply a patch to secure your installation until you are
able to do a proper upgrade. These patches fix the security vulnerabilities,
but do not contain other fixes which were released in Drupal 6.16 or Drupal
5.22.
  * To patch Drupal 6.15 use SA-CORE-2010-001-6.15.patch [5].
  * To patch Drupal 5.21 use SA-CORE-2010-001-5.21.patch [6].

 REPORTED BY
-

The installation cross site scripting issue was reported by David Rothstein
[7] (*). The open redirection was reported by Martin Barbella [8]. The locale
module cross site scripting was reported by Justin Klein Keane [9]. The
blocked user session regeneration issue was reported by Craig A. Hancock
[10]. (*) Member of the Drupal security team.
 FIXED BY

The installation cross site scripting issue was fixed by Heine Deelstra [11].
The open redirection was fixed by Gerhard Killesreiter [12] and Heine
Deelstra [13]. The locale module cross site scripting was fixed by Stéphane
Corlosquet [14], Peter Wolanin [15], Heine Deelstra [16] and Neil Drumm [17].
The blocked user session regeneration issue was fixed by Gerhard Killesreiter

Bug#570766: System hangs on X startup (855GM, KMS disabled)

2010-03-04 Thread Richard Kojedzinszky

Dear Cyril,

Thanks for your reply. I've not tested older kernels with modeset=1
option, but the truth is that with a debian upgrade did things go wrong. I
will test with an older one, with modeset=1 also. I will report the
results. Anyway, could you please tell me where can i find older
xserver-xorg-video-intel packages?

Regards,

Kojedzinszky Richard

You probably want to report that upstream, but read on.

You've mentioned some blog, but i did not found it in your letter,
or a link to it.

Failure from my side, as usual. Kernel versions are talked about in
those blog posts:
 http://ikibiki.org/blog/2010/02/28/Where_have_you_been/
 http://www.itp.tuwien.ac.at/~mattems/blog/2010/03/03#newer_linux_32_33

You might want to wait until another revision of the .32 or .33
kernels is available, then check whether the issue is still here.

If you were to open a bug in Debian, please put the kernel function
name or file path in the subject, that's AFAICT another story.

Mraw,
KiBi.

Bug#572440: gvfs: applications freeze on some tasks

2010-03-04 Thread Davide Prina
Package: gvfs
Version: 1.4.3-1
Severity: important

I have applications freeze principally on:
* GDM logon
* open/save dialog

I have find that I can stop the freeze by doing:
# /etc/init.d/dbus stop
wait few second
# /etc/init.d/dbus start

When I have a freeze some application do not respond anymore and the
CPU is used at 100%

On log on I do:
* Ctrl-Alt-F1
* root
# /etc/init.d/dbus stop
I see these errors:
gvfs-gdu-volume[2605]: segfault at 84 ip b7689518 sp bfe57eb0 error 4
in libdbus-1.so.3.4.0 [b767c000+37000]
END_REQUEST: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0
END_REQUEST: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0

there is an automatic logout and the restart of dbus.
Now I can logon with gdm and work.

If I try to logon with gdm without doing the dbus stop I have the
freeze of Gnome. Now I do Ctrl-Alt-F1 ... dbus stop ... I have a lot
of errors (invalid memory and so on ... the screen scrool up)

Sometime when I open a Open/Save dialog, take screenshot, ... I have a
freeze of the application I'm using.
I do dbus stop (without errors) and dbust start and the freeze go
away: the open/save dialog show up and I can use it without problems.

Ciao
Davide

Thanks very much for submitting your Debian mirror.
Here are a few remarks before we can add your server to the list of
Debian mirrors.

 Site: mirror.bjtu.edu.cn
 Aliases: mirror6.bjtu.edu.cn
 Aliases: ftp.bjtu.edu.cn

You may create a debian.bjtu.edu.cn, it will allow you to be more
flexile ina managing your Debian mirror.

 Type: leaf
 Archive-architecture: ALL alpha amd64 arm armel hppa hurd-i386 i386 ia64
 kfreebsd-amd64 kfreebsd-i386 m68k mips mipsel powerpc s390 sparc
 Archive-http: /debian/

Please switch to the recommended tool 'ftpsync':
http://www.debian.org/mirror/ftpmirror#how

It is needed to ensure mirrors are doing the sync using the best method
for users, and provides us trace files to understand the status of the
mirror.

 IPv6: yes

Maybe add field to mirror.bjtu.edu.cn as well ?

 Archive-upstream: debian.nctu.edu.tw
 Updates: once

You may sync from ftp.tw.d.o (also known as debian.linux.org.tw)
instead, which has the advantage of being an official mirror.
The recommended method is to be pushed, so that you don't need to setup
any cron job, and you get archive updates as soon as they appear:

Bug#551993: [murrine-themes] Wrong gtk configuration options

2010-03-04 Thread Artur G. Sibagatullin
Here is the patch, please check it.
Hey, thanks for that. Did you check the themes were indeed looking the
 same before and after?

Oh, trying this themes with widget factory brought me to the problem :)
The patched themes really differ, especially progressbar and toggle and
check buttons. Obviously simply changing hilight_ratio to
highlight_shade doesn't do the things. I'll try to figure it out about
this. Unfortunately I' not gnome or gtk developer and can't quickly fix
this bug. I'm just advanced user.

Bug#572442: sparc 2.6.29+ NMI watchdog deadlock on Sun Fire V240 etc

2010-03-04 Thread Josip Rodin
Package: linux-2.6
Severity: serious
Tags: upstream patch

Hi there,

Ever since kernel 2.6.29 came out, several classes of sparc machines have
been unable to upgrade, because they would get stuck while initializing
the new NMI watchdog code.

The process of trying to figure it out is mostly documented in this
long-running mailing list thread that spanned many months:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2009/08/msg5.html
http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2009/09/msg00018.html
http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2009/10/msg00015.html
http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2009/11/msg00034.html
http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2009/12/msg0.html

Had this gone unattended, sparc release requalification might have been in
trouble, because the bug affects the Fire V240 sparc buildd machines as well
as Jurij Smakov's test machine, and that's a lot in our little universe :)

Fortunately David Miller came to the rescue and personally debugged the
problem on one of the buildds, and fixed the problem. His solution, that
we are currently running on schroeder.debian.org, is attached.

Please include the patch in the sparc kernel package so that we can test
it widely, preferably ASAP. TIA.

Ok, I think I fixed it.

Attached are two versions of the fix, the first attachment is
for 2.6.33 and the second one is for any kernel 2.6.32 and
previous.

Give it a good test on any machine you've seen this problem on
and let me know how it goes.

Thanks.

The problem is that is takes more than half a minute before I get

I have also installed the linux-firmware package. Is it possible to

It is included since revision 0.18 of firmware-nonfree:

E.g. emacs(1) doesn't change the file without special setting:

require-final-newline is a variable defined in `files.el'.
Its value is nil

There is also joe(1) which doesn' add newline. But as you pointed out,
there are editors that alwasys add newline, like vi(1). And for
programming code (C++ standard, compilers, diffs, patches) the final
newline is desired.

As the upstream of leafpad has no plans to add the feature, there is not

Bug#572446: installation-report: unusual configuration fails to boot after installation

2010-03-04 Thread Andrew Sharp

Package: installation-reports
Version: 2.38
Severity: normal

So I thought for sure this would work:

PXE boot the installation system

http://people.debian.org/~joeyh/d-i/images/daily/netboot/netboot.tar.gz

Do the install, and configure the two 18GB SCSI disks as follows:

/dev/md0 raid1 swap
/dev/md1 raid0 xfs /

Each raid volume is made up of two partitions, and those two volumes
are the only ones on the system.

Installation completed, however on stable/lenny, I get an error trying
to install grub to the MBR of the first disk. It worked (or appeared to
work) on this latest testing version. Anyway, it cannot boot that way,
which I sort of figured, so I intended to PXE boot the kernel and initrd
all along. I set that up, but it fails to mount the root filesystem.

Problem 1: It fails to load the sd-mod module, so there are no SCSI
disks,

so of course it can't initialize the raid subsystem and mount /.

Problem 2: On testing/squeeze, even if I load sd-mod by hand, and then
try to re-run scripts/local-top/mdadm, I get a bunch of errors saying
there is no raid signature on sda or sdb. Bizarre. You're stuck at
that point, there's nothing you can do.

I was able to hack the initramfs on lenny and get the netbooting to
work.

Just adding the sd-mod to the modules file didn't get it done, so I
grossly hacked scripts/local-top/mdadm in the initramsfs to load sd-
mod and

then wait for 15 seconds. That seemed to do the trick, although it
still doesn't find the root filesystem right away, it goes asleep for
10-15 seconds, then finds it and proceeds.

I built the initramfs with the following command on the system using
rescue-mode:

mkinitramfs -r /dev/md1 -o /boot/initrd.img-2.6.26-2-686-netboot
2.6.26-2-686

No, it doesn't. Git master (commit 4975658f0) from fdo also shows the

Adding in the byte-word extension -mbwx (more commonly I use -mcpu=ev67)

Can you just forward my last comment (about the posix standard) to the

We should also ask them if they accept such a patch.

I can write it.

E.g. emacs(1) doesn't change the file without special setting:

C-h v require-final-newline

require-final-newline is a variable defined in `files.el'.
Its value is nil

Documentation:
Whether to add a newline automatically at the end of the file.

There is also joe(1) which doesn' add newline. But as you pointed out,
there are editors that alwasys add newline, like vi(1). And for
programming code (C++ standard, compilers, diffs, patches) the final
newline is desired.

As the upstream of leafpad has no plans to add the feature, there is not
much we can do. I can only suggests to send him patches to make this
behavior configurable and hope the patches are accepted.

Bug#572448: devscripts: minor patch for chdist.pl

Hi,

chdist script is useful, it can get other distro (i.e. Ubuntu) source
easily, quite nice :) But I noticed some minor issues.

1)

I ran chdist apt-get DIST update, then got a warning,

henr...@hp115:/tmp$ chdist create DISTRIBUTION
Now edit /home/henrich/.chdist/DISTRIBUTION/etc/apt/sources.list
Then run chdist apt-get DISTRIBUTION update
And enjoy.

#deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper main restricted
#deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper universe multiverse

it is too old for Ubuntu releases, and why don't you add other Debian
distrbutions - stable, testing and experimental - by default?

3)

It shows GPG warning when runs apt-get update or so

I made a patch for those issues, add directories, sources.lists
and gpgfiles by default. Please review and apply it.

 Thanks.

Bug#572449: should not assume that default SSH user is 'root'

2010-03-04 Thread Piotr Lewandowski
Package: virt-manager
Version: 0.8.3-2
Severity: normal

Hello,

When there is no user specified in SSH location virt-manager assumes that
'root' is the default user.

$ grep -B3 root /usr/share/virt-manager/virtManager/connect.py
if conn == CONN_SSH and '@' in host:
user, host = host.split('@',1)
else:
user = root

IMHO, not only this is counter-intuitive (because when I do `ssh host`
the assumed user is my local username) but also encourages bad practices
(login as root only to connect to libvirt's UNIX socket).

If user part is omitted, local username should be used instead.

Hi.

The sys handler executes /sbin/mdadm -Q --detail /dev/md?* unconditionally,

I suggest to add a test on existence of these /dev/md* files before issueing

Bug#504623: Java AWT and non-reparenting WMs

2010-03-04 Thread Philip Hands
Is this a symptom of the problem mentioned here:

  http://awesome.naquadah.org/wiki/Problems_with_Java

If so, given that this bug keeps popping up:

  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=568509
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=496812

and will continue to do so until the JDK7 version that finally fixes it
gets widely deployed, perhaps the READMEs for the various Java packages
should have mention of the relevant fix, depending on the version of Java
in question (as per the awesome wiki page).

It would probably help if it was also mentioned on the Debian Wiki,
as at present it's not at all obvious what's causing this problem (at
least it took me ages to find the various places where it's mentioned).

Cheers, Phil.

I will test with an older one, with modeset=1 also. I will report

I think the way forward is finding what happens with recent kernels

Bug#572452: git-buildpackage: git-import-org --fast-import does not look up realname of current user

2010-03-04 Thread Matthijs Kooijman
Package: git-buildpackage
Version: 0.4.65~3.gbp3ceaa3
Severity: minor

Hi,

I thought to try --fast-import, since I had some problems with normal
import adding files that were ignored by upstreams .gitignore (and thus
didn't show up in git status when I cleaned the tree before importing).

Anyway, after importing using --fast-import, I noticed that it had
created the upstream import commit using just my username as author
name, instead of my full name (from /etc/passwd). Looking at the code,
it seems that GitRepository.get_author_info() tries to emulate git's
behaviour, but apparently neglects to do a /etc/passwd / NSS lookup when
it uses the current username as a name.

It seems this is a matter of doing
name = pwd.getpwnam(name)[4].split(',')[0]
after getting the value of $USER, with some error handling of course.

However, isn't there some way to let git do all this stuff instead of
recreating git's name guessing algorithms in gbp? That would of course
be a lot better and more predictable...

Gr.

Matthijs

Bug#87515: logrotate never trims its state file

2010-03-04 Thread Jan Sievers
package logrotate
severity 87515 normal
tags 87515 patch

Hi,

this bug still exists in version

logrotate: 3.7.8-4

While I don't have situations like the one described by the bug
reporter, I noticed that on some of my machines the state file gets
confusing, since I changed locations of logfiles some times and the old
log states remain for ever.

As logrotate developed a little bit since the reporting of this bug,
solutions of message #10 are not valid anymore. The least frequent
rotation is 'yearly' since version 3.7.7-1.

A different approach could be flagging the status records of log files
we found plus flagging the status records of log files of which rotation
is configured with 'missingok' and in the end write out only such state
records that got flagged in this way.

The downside of this approach is that you loose the states of currently
*missing* log files, if their rotation is configured with a glob file
name pattern. While loosing the state means only that this log files
could possibly get rotated earlier than it would be the case now.

What do you think?

I attached a patch.

Subject: [PATCH] Allow for missing or disabled compat_output

When the compat output is missing (I don't think this is actually
possible), or is disabled (and hence has no crtc), we would like to
avoid dereferencing NULL pointers. This patch creates inline functions
to extract the current compat output, crtc or associated RandR crtc
structure, carefully checking for NULL pointers everywhere.

I suggest to add a test on existence of these /dev/md* files before issueing
 mdadm.

The following test seems to do the trick :

STATUS=Collecting Software RAID information (/sbin/mdadm -Q)
if [ -n $(ls /dev/md?* 2/dev/null || true) ]; then
   catifexec /sbin/mdadm -Q --detail '/dev/md?*'

Hope this helps.

Bug#407750: closed by Josselin Mouette j...@debian.org (Would be useless)

Hi there!

Someone who uses the Debian menu obviously has nothing to do with an
 editor for the Freedesktop menu.

Furthermore, KDE has its own menu editor, this is why alacarte won’t
show up in the KDE menu (NotShowIn=KDE).

I completely disagree with your opinion about menus in Debian, but,
frankly speaking, I do not care (I personally do not use any menu, since
my DE is StumpWM/Ratpoison).

Bug#572169:

2010-03-04 Thread David Kalnischkies
Hi Anne Henmi,

2010/3/4 Stripes the Tiger Cub bengaltigerstri...@gmail.com:
 Attached the requested files.
Thanks!

Unfortunately i am unable to reproduce the configuration error -
so is it possible to also attach /var/lib/dpkg/status ?
You can sent this file privately to me if you don't want expose
these information (= which and in which version software is installed
on your system) on the internet. (beware: The file is relatively big,
so you might want to upload it to a filehoster like rapidshare.com
instead of attaching it to a mail)

Also of interest is the file /var/log/apt/term.log (can be read only
as root) The first paragraph (between Log started: and Log ended:)
should be a copy of the lines which lead to the failure resulting
in the broken system state you currently have and should help in
identifying the evil package.
You might suspect it: It would be wonderful if you could post this also. :)

Any chance of fixing this or telling me
how to remove openoffice.org so I can fix the rest of my system?
You can try (after saving the two files for me ;) )
dpkg --configure -a
apt-get install -f
This might help, if not you can remove the broken packages with
dpkg --remove
and try again with the two commands above,
but please read the manpage and the output of the commands
carefully - and if unsure feel free to ask for more help.
(make sure to copy the complete exact error messages in this case)
After that you should be able to install openoffice with apt-get again.

Good luck, thanks so far and
Best regards,

David Kalnischkies

Bug#572462: kile projects mimetype is not installed

2010-03-04 Thread Julien Bigot
Package: kile
Version: 1:2.1.0~svn1055250beta3-1
Severity: normal

On my system, kile projects are not recognized in dolphin or other file
browsers to be opened by kile.

running kbuildsycoca4 leads to the following output :
kbuildsycoca4(13516) KBuildServiceFactory::populateServiceTypes:
/usr/share/applications/kde4/kile.desktop specifies undefined
mimetype/servicetype text/x-kilepr

Maybe this is related to the fact that kile installs the x-kilepr.desktop file
in /usr/share/mimelink/text/ instead of /usr/share/mimelnk/text/ where all
other packages do.

Best regards,
Julien

FYI: upstream cryptsetup use directly autopoint since 1.1.0-rc3,

Bug#572483: samba-common: invoke-rc.d warning when doing system shutdown

2010-03-04 Thread Kevin Baradon
Package: samba-common
Version: 2:3.4.6~dfsg-1
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

invoke-rc.d warns me during every system shutdown it is invoked in an invalid
context.

This command is called by /etc/dhcp3/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/samba to reload
samba configuration file on DHCP release (my IP address comes from DHCP
server).
But smbd daemon isn't running anymore at that time (system shutdown).

Following patch checks for PID file existence before calling invoke-rc.d and
fixes the warning.
