Please have a look to: http://packages.qa.debian.org/m/moodle.html You will see lot of bugreports and even an RC bug. The main problem, I believe, is that the package needs to be updated to the latest Moodle 1.9.x release. 1.9 was released two years ago. The second biggest problem, is that it needs to be migrated to dbconfig-common. After that we don't really have a list of problems with the packaging per se (other then the bug list), because we were planning on rewriting it from scratch. I would recommend whoever takes it over, to seriously consider that option. Bug#575080: sysv-rc: wrong shutdown links generated after conversion from file-rc

Bug#575195: opal should build-depend on libsrtp-dev, and libopal-dev should depend on libsrtp0-dev
Package: opal Version: 3.6.6~dfsg-4 Severity: normal Hi, As subject says, the source package opal should build-depend on virtual package libsrtp-dev, and the binary package libopal-dev should depend on the actual implementation of it, libopal0-dev. Above should be done only for archs for which srtp is actually packaged - on other archs it is recommended to instead conflict with the virtual libsrtp-dev, although this only is of severity minor (it gets severity normal if/when libsrtp gets support for those other archs at a later point in time). srtp is currently packaged on the following archs: alpha amd64 armel hppa i386 mips mipsel powerpc s390 The reason for this, and for this bugreport not being severity wishlist, is that opal automagically recognize an installed srtp so may accidentally link against it, rendering the libopal-dev package broken, as it then must depend on headers of the used library. If for some odd reason there is no interest in the use of srtp at all, then the opal build process might have an option no explicitly avoid it, which should then be used. Bug#575172: webfs: [INTL:de] updated German debconf translation
Quoting Mats Erik Andersson (mats.anders...@gisladisker.se): Bester Martin Schauer! I suggest you make such comments in English as they end up in Debian BTS. That makes it easier for readers to understand. Actually, I had hard times trying to figure out what your comments were about. Of course, I was more or less suspecting that you had concerns about the way some things are translated. This is nearly about the only occasion package maintainers complain: when they d'ont agree about the way translation teams translate..:-) I have no real expertise to judge about all this but please consider that, at least certainly for German translations (that might be less true for Swedish), things are discussed in the l10n list and therefore choices (such as leaving original English in some cases for terms where most geeks jargonize by using them untranslated) often have the blessing of a consensus in l10n lists. I had the same discussions with some French translators in the past and, most of the time, I could bring the work we're doing about consistency across packages, good use of the language (vs geek jargon) and such things. I hope that a discussion with the German l10n team will be able to sort issues out. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Is it shipped with gnupg2? Yep, there's a gpgv2 binary currently in the gnupg2 package. gnupg2 is IMO not a replacement option for gnupg in Debian atm. gnupg2 has a slightly larger footprint, and has a few more small dependencies. We may be able to tighten things up a bit so that it takes up less space. I would suggest you start with this. But I think making it an alternative is a better, more incremental step. I would like to see this tested, because I have doubts, that one can easily switch between them (especially because of a few user reports I got - but to be honest: I don't know for sure, that the problems were caused by gnupg vs gnupg2). Okay, I uploaded packages on mentors: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gnupg/gnupg_1.4.10-3.1.dsc http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gnupg2/gnupg2_2.0.14-1.1.dsc I've installed them in Ubuntu 9.10 and switched to gp2, I didn't encounter any problems yet. Bug#513379: alias 'crontab -i' no longer works
On 2010-03-24 09:30:38 +1100, Tim Connors wrote: The *correct* fix for #513379 would be to fix the manpage to say e.g.: usage: crontab [ -u user ] [ -i ] [file | { -l | -r | -e }] Yes, but IMHO, in such a case, -i should prompt the user whenever there is an immediate destructive effect, i.e. with file and with -r (with -e, the user should see what he modifies, so that I don't think this is necessary). This would be more consistent. Note that just like crontab -r, the user could type crontab - by mistake. Also, I think that the user should be prompted only when the user already has a crontab. Currently, crontab -r -i prompts the user is any case. -- Vincent Lefèvre vinc...@vinc17.net - Web: http://www.vinc17.net/ 100% accessible validated (X)HTML - Blog: http://www.vinc17.net/blog/ Work: CR INRIA - computer arithmetic / Arénaire project (LIP, ENS-Lyon) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#574635: xulrunner: cannot connect through a Bluecoat proxy with REDIRECT authentication

When you issue a CONNECT command, they will reply with a REDIRECT to a page that does the authentication. Actually a new analysis shows this is more complicated than that. So this is what happens when you request https://blah.blah/ 1) The browser issues CONNECT blah.blah 2) The proxy replies 302 found with a redirect to https://stupid.proxy/blah.blah 3) The browser issues CONNECT stupid.proxy 4) The proxy replies 401 authorization required with some Javascript code that does a redirect to https://authentication.gateway/blah.blah Then, the JS code used to be executed. Now it is not and you only get a boilerplate page. I think the sensible way to avoid this problem altogether is to setup your proxy configuration to not send requests to stupid.proxy and probably authentication.gateway through the proxy, either with a proxy.pac or with the No Proxy for box in the proxy preferences dialog. Anyways, could you forward this upstream and report the bug number back? Cheers Mike -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#542489: [Pkg-fonts-devel] Bug#542489: ttf-inconsolata: No italics in Emacs 23 Gtk+
Hello, I am also annoyed by this bug. Inconsolata fits my needs very well, but having italic/oblique working in Emacs 23 would be a plus for complex editing. Anything I can do to help on this problem? This is a very, very quick and dirty solution: I think that you can open the font with fontforge, let it slant the fonts automatically, save the result with a different name and use it. Sorry for my quite dumb question. I realized that I had convinced myself that oblique was already included in Inconsolata but not available in Emacs. Further checking showed this was not the case (the original bugreport was a bit misleading). I prefer not to start using hacks to get fake oblique... BTW, I find Inconsolata good for high-resolution devices (e.g., print), but the blurry (and even colored) shapes make my eyes hurt. I am not entierely conviced myself, but as Terminus, which I prefer, doesn't have a good-quality oblique, I have looked at alternatives. After getting your answer, I made some tests with DejaVu Sans Mono (quite good) and Anonymous Pro (surprising at first, but quite usable). Bug#568168: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau needs nouveau bits from libdrm
On Tue, Mar 23, 2010 at 22:19:20 +0100, Sven Joachim wrote: I'm not sure how to do the merge. While merging upstream-ubuntu into upstream-experimental is a trivial fast-forward, and merging upstream-experimental into debian-experimental is also a no-brainer, merging ubuntu into debian-experimental resulted in quite a few things that needed to be backed out; for instance their patch 02_nouveau_bgnr leads to FTBFS on Debian, and I'm not sure you want all the Ubuntu history in debian/changelog either. So it might be better to merge --squash that branch, since otherwise we might create problems for Ubuntu (in their later merges) if we revert many of their actions. What do you think? I think I'd just apply the relevant parts of the ubuntu diff manually instead of doing it as a git merge. Hopefully that won't be too hard to extract, and that way we don't import the unrelated changes you mention. merge --squash and revert the changes we don't want before committing looks like would do that (I didn't know about merge --squash, thanks for the pointer!). Bug#575204: [Pkg-sysvinit-devel] Bug#575204: initscripts: grep complains about invalid back reference in umountfs
[Sven Joachim] Upon a reboot, I noticed grep complaining about an invalid back reference. Interesting. I did not show up when I tested it, so I suspect it is related to your setup. Running this script leads to a grep: Invalid back reference error message here. For the reference, these are the contents of /proc/mounts: [...] | /dev/disk/by-label/\134x2f / ext2 rw,relatime,errors=remount-ro,barrier=1,data=writeback 0 0 This is the only one I can imagine lead grep to look for a back-reference (the \134 part). This sound a bit like the udev/mount incompatibility, where mount and udev encode special characters differently. Not quite sure how to fix it properly. What kind of device is this? How can I reproduce the setup leading to such strange device name? Bug#549681: needs MODULES=dep on some PowerPC systems
Hi, On Wed, Mar 24, 2010 at 02:30:37AM +0100, maximilian attems wrote: It would be good if mkinitramfs would fail on systems that have the string platform: CHRP in /proc/cpuinfo if compressed kernel and initramfs together are larger than 12 MB, to stop unpleasant surprises when booting. partman has some checks for partitions, Not sure where partman comes into the picture here. aboves specialised wish sound nice for debian installer although there are not many powerpc guys. reassigning to rootskel who does install initramfs-tools. I think there are two changes needed: building the kernel image needs to fail (and the old kernel left in place) if the new image would be unbootable, and d-i needs to remain working afterwards. It's not d-i's problem alone -- when I stumbled over this, it happened on a system that had been running for several years (that is, upgrading my system made it unbootable). Bug#542489: [Pkg-fonts-devel] Bug#542489: ttf-inconsolata: No italics in Emacs 23 Gtk+
Hi, Damien. On Mar 24 2010, Damien Wyart wrote: This is a very, very quick and dirty solution: I think that you can open the font with fontforge, let it slant the fonts automatically, save the result with a different name and use it. Sorry for my quite dumb question. No, your question was not dumb at all: I have, under some circumstances, had to resort to edit the fonts with fontforge. The Utopia typeface that Adobe donated to the TeX Users' Group is one such case, since I needed the smallcaps and the donated font didn't have one. In fact, that was a good thing, since, in the course of that, I even discovered a segfault and patched that (I guess that few people create smallcaps...). I realized that I had convinced myself that oblique was already included in Inconsolata but not available in Emacs. Further checking showed this was not the case (the original bugreport was a bit misleading). Yes, I don't see any kind of italics or oblique here. I prefer not to start using hacks to get fake oblique... They may not be that bad if you tune them with fontforge (and using fontforge is easy, at least for the more mundane tasks). And if you produced anything as a result of your efforts, contributing it would be awesome. I have not yet made up my mind with terminus. After getting your answer, I made some tests with DejaVu Sans Mono (quite good) and Anonymous Pro (surprising at first, but quite usable). I, myself, use DejaVu Sans Mono with my Emacs. The only problems that I had were due to fontconfig not being fine-tuned, but I now have a .fonts.conf file that deals with that. BTW, is Anonymous Pro packaged already? In my reading and discussion with others, there are hints about different agreements at different times between different people about how to handle various transitions, but as someone not party to the various discussions over time, I wish I could find a single, well articulated policy for Python in Debian. There are more people I want to talk to, and perhaps one or more of them will make everything clear to me... but I do not want to delay things further. I want to send my current thoughts to this list - this is just work in progress. Speaking with people takes time, but is necessary for a good solution. This conflict has its root way in the past, and has been escalating for quite some time till it reached the tech ctte. So I want to find not only an solution for the current request, but I want to find a way how we can avoid to see yet another instance starting in a few months, starting to make more and more people unhappy, and then accumulating to the tech ctte again in 2-3 years. My goal is to make sure the debian python community is fun again for the people involved, less frustrating, and can deal with the usual disagreements (that of course exist when people do stuff together) without external help or escalations. Also this means that we will probably need to review how it works in another 6 months, and reserve the right to change things as necessary then. My other goal obviously is to get the python 2.6 transition done in a way that doesn't block the release, and do it in time for the release. :) So, together this seems to indicate (order might be wrong, sorry, this is just a braindump): 1. Establish co-maintainers for python (including pythonX.Y) that both the community and the current maintainers are ok-ish with. 2. Get a final common (or at least accepted) technical decision how to resolve the lingering technical issues that Bdale spoke about. This involves sorting out with upstream. This also involves decisions which parts needs to be done prior to squeeze, and which not - and then picking up the stuff after squeeze really after squeeze is done). 3. Establish a conflict-resolution mechanismn inside of the debian python community that is accepted by all involved parties, where decisions are not questioned on afterwards again, where people are actively working with (or at least not blocking or working against decisions), and which makes sure we go in the same directions as upstream. (This is probably a pre-condition to get 2. done.) (Of course, we also need to set a few things about what can and what can't this mechanismn resolve.) 4. We need to get a list of current open technical conflicts, and then probably add some dates when we want to have what resolved (of course dates can be changed, but we need to have some criteria to see oh this works or that doesn't work - could also be something like from the 5 issues we want to have at least 3 sorted out till $time after release of squeeze). So far for now. Now I need to have more talks with more people. Andi -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#575224: gnome: gnash is insufficiently stable to be depended on
Package: gnome Version: 1:2.28+6 Severity: important The current gnome package pulls in gnash via the Mozilla plugin. This has had a dramatically negative effect on the stability of my system - with at least some of the web pages I visit gnash appears to have a very severe memory leak which rapidly drives my system into swap, causing it to become almost completely unresponsive to user input and rendering it unusuable. Bug#575228: Please support passing arguments or variables to {pre, post}{,dis}connection scripts
Package: wicd-daemon Severity: normal Hi, I'm pretty certain this used to work at some point, maybe early 2009, but was then fixed; hence the severity. I have a script called netconfig that takes a parameter and sets up some local things based on that parameter. I'd like wicd to pass it a command line argument, but can't seem to do so; the entire command line is treated as the name of the script, including spaces. Neither does wicd appear to pass in any meaningful environment variables. I can think of a number of workarounds, but the best would be for wicd to just spawn a shell to evaluate the command line pertaining to the script, so that word splitting would be performed automatically. I don't think people commonly use scripts that have spaces in their names, so this would be less of a violation of the Principle of Least Surprise. Bug#575229: network-manager: Wireless performance problems with ath5k driver
Package: network-manager Version: 0.8-1 Severity: normal File: network-manager This may more properly belong to the ath5k driver or kernel but since it was my machine's recent migration to network-manager that caused me to notice it, I'll report it here - please feel free to reassign. The ath5k driver apparently uses lots of cpu and causes long pauses in connectivity when the wireless networks available are being scanned...since network manager does this a lot, it leads to persistent and annoying networking hangs, particularly noticable in interactive sessions (ie, ssh). It took me a while to figure out what was going on - throughput with scp, ftp, etc seemed fine, but there were frequent pauses otherwise even when signal strength seemed fine. Finally I noticed in 'top' the phy0 process spiking CPU whenever this happened. I found this bug against Fedora https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=506659 which claims that there is unspecified work done in the upstream kernel that will mitigate this issue. This is probably the upstream bug - https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12635 I figured for tracking purposes there should be something in Debian about this problem. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-3-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages network-manager depends on: ii adduser 3.112 add and remove users and groups ii dbus 1.2.20-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii dhcp3-client 3.1.3-2DHCP client ii ifupdown 0.6.10 high level tools to configure netw ii libc6 2.10.2-6 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.20-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.84-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libgcrypt11 1.4.5-2LGPL Crypto library - runtime libr ii libglib2.0-0 2.22.4-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnutls26 2.8.5-2the GNU TLS library - runtime libr ii libgudev-1.0-0151-2 GObject-based wrapper library for ii libnl11.1-5 library for dealing with netlink s ii libnm-glib2 0.8-1 network management framework (GLib ii libnm-util1 0.8-1 network management framework (shar ii libpolkit-gobject-1-0 0.96-1 PolicyKit Authorization API ii libuuid1 2.16.2-0 Universally Unique ID library ii lsb-base 3.2-23 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii udev 151-2 /dev/ and hotplug management daemo ii wpasupplicant 0.6.10-2 client support for WPA and WPA2 (I Versions of packages network-manager recommends: ii dnsmasq-base 2.52-1A small caching DNS proxy and DHCP ii iptables 1.4.6-2 administration tools for packet fi ii modemmanager 0.3-2 D-Bus service for managing modems pn network-manager-gnome | ne none(no description available) ii policykit-10.96-1framework for managing administrat ii ppp2.4.4rel-10.1 Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) - da Versions of packages network-manager suggests: ii avahi-autoipd 0.6.25-3 Avahi IPv4LL network address confi -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Oh, crap, I forgot, yes. Maybe postinst messages then? Since the alternative is usually an instant reboot loop, which will inevitably result in people complaining. The kernel should probably catch the ENOSYS from the new PHYSDEVOP_setup_gsi hypercall (which is what the hypervisor update is required for) and panic with a more useful/specific error message. I'm not sure if that would prevent a reboot loop though so perhaps that wouldn't help much. Bug#502490: vim and mutt
I see this problem mostly from mutt as vim is my editor. To reproduce try this. 1. Start screen. 2. Start mutt. 3. Forcefully disconnect session (e.g. kill xterm.). 4. Log in again and reattach screen, usually with -dr. 5. Now try to use vim via mutt again. Vim will hang.
