 This is because network is not available in these rebuilds, while

 Thanks and well spotted.

 I've just committed a fix to this bug with revision 2351 of
 http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-fonts/packages/ttf-freefont/trunk/debian/copyright

 Unfortunately, I can't upload this, as I don't have the rights.
 Nevertheless, one bug to include on my RCBW list of this week. :-)

Davide Viti, who generally takes good care of FreeFont, will certainly
prepare a package and then ask me to upload it, as usual. No problem.

Merci, Mike, au fait..:-)

yet.

I think we could do something like (only for VIPT-WB cache machine):

-	static inline void ptep_set_wrprotect(struct mm_struct *mm, unsigned
long address, pte_t *ptep)

+	static inline void ptep_set_wrprotect(struct vm_area_struct *vma,
struct mm_struct *mm, unsigned long addr, pte_t *ptep)

{
pte_t old_pte = *ptep;
+   if (atomic_read(mm-mm_users)  1)
+   flush_cache_page(vma, addr, pte_pfn(old_pte));
set_pte_at(mm, addr, ptep, pte_wrprotect(old_pte));
}

Here, we can add condition for the call of flush_cache_page
to avoid big performance impact for non threads case.

 /etc/fstab for such a live system. However, the $fstab-close(); in
 /var/lib/dpkg/info/linux-base.postinst will just exit in this case.
 Please fix it. Thanks.

Thanks for pointing out this bug. The fundamental issue is that we
shouldn't be attempting to do any conversion during a fresh installation
(whether that is done through debootstrap, debian-installer or
live-helper).

Because linux-base is a new package, we cannot simply check that this is
a fresh installation of linux-base. Instead, I've added a check that
(1) /etc/fstab exists and (2) one or more linux-image packages are
already installed. I believe this will do the right thing.

First of all why should this be a bug in guest-utils? This looks to me as if
you don't have the right modules for your kernel. Unfortunately your bug report
lacks information about the virtualbox-ose-guest-dkms version installed. Also
we need to make sure that you indeed have compiled modules for your kernel. So
please remove the modules you have and re-build them

 I believe this could be related to:

I honestly doubt that. This bug is old and was fixed ages ago.

information about JavaCC, see the JavaCC web site.

JavaCC grammar files use the extension .jj. This plugin can be used to
locate and process all grammar files within a specified directory. Java
source files will be written to a common generated-sources output
directory, typically located in the build output directory. By default,
the plugin will run during the generate-sources phase, but it can be
configured to run in other phases as well.

The plugin can also be be used to call the JJTree and JTB tools.

Finally, this plugin contains a goal for running JJDoc. JJDoc is a
simple tool that generates BNF documentation for the JavaCC grammar
files. This can be used to generate a report for your project site using
the Maven reporting tools.

 wcstoll returns only the value for 32bit.
 For instance, wcstoll(L1, NULL, 16) returns 0
 though it is sure to become 4294967296.

This is not reproducible here. Are you sure the wcstoll is correctly
declared?

You can verify that it is correctly declared by compiling with -Wall. If
it is not the case, verify that your program should include wchar.h and
that you use either use -std=c99 or -D_GNU_SOURCE to compile it.

 As for the icons I'll take a look on how to use them (and possibly the

Translations are a major part of iso-codes. We constantly receive
updates and release a new version every four weeks.

You might want to take a look at the package isoquery, which provides a
command line program to generate various lists of the XML data. That
might be easier for your program to parse.

When backporting, note that you'll need s/PHY_ID_BCMAC131/0x0143bc70/ in
the patch to broadcom.c, because 2.6.32 didn't have a definition for
that.

There's also trivial change in phy_device_create() which will make the
patch fail to apply, but git-cherry-pick copes.

request_module() takes printf-style arguments. So now I've killed the

SCI games work out of the box in scummvm.

  Description             :  Flexible C logging API

The intention of the nglogc library is to provide an easy to use and powerful
logging API with mechanism which allows to cram source codes with log
statements at the start of implementation and decide at the level of building
or at runtime which statements should be processed.

Therefore the log statements could be controlled by various log levels and
define switches are available to completely remove the call of the functions
at pre-processor time. So it is possible to switch on the logging only if it
is necessary or only print selected messages without any changes in the
source code. Different publishers are provided also as different formats of
outputs to fulfil the requirements for software development.

Bug#545921: videogen: Multiple issues with the some_modes script.

2010-04-02 Thread Bas Zoetekouw
Hi Ross!

 This script doesn't seem to be updated very frequently. There are a few
 issues which are fixed in the attached patch:
 * a reference to XF86Config(-4)
 * it fails silently when dialog, whiptail, and gdialog aren't installed
 * the DEF_MINSYNC variable is ignored
 * the logic to check for MINSYNC out of range is wrong and incomplete
 * spelling mistake (choosen)
 * inconsistent command indentation
 Not fixed here: Most recent LCD monitors support reduced blank modes
 which can be generated with the cvt(1) command. They may be needed
 instead of the modes produced by videogen to obtain good refresh rates
 with high resolution modes on low end video cards. It would be nice
 if it were also packaged and this script could call it too.

Thanks a lot for your work here. I don't actually use videogen much
anymore, because of the new fully automatic Xorg detection stuff. I'll
upload your fixes soon..

Best regards,
Bas.

Bug#541867: blktrace: Incorrect runlevels in init.d script

2010-04-02 Thread Bas Zoetekouw
Hi Petter!

Sorry for taking so long to react to this bug.

You wrote:

 Hi. Is the proposed patch ok? Do blktrace really need to start
 before single user mode is entered? If not, it would be better to not
 start from rcS.d/ and instead start in runlevels 2-5. To improve
 single user mode in Debian, as many scripts as possible should be
 moved from rcS.d/ to runlevels 2-5. Why is the script running in
 runlevel 1, which is intended to be similar to single user mode?

I'm not sure about starting it in runlevel S. The reason I put it there
in the first place was for consistency with mounting of proc and sys
etc, but I'm not sure it is actually needed suring startup or in
runlevel 1. I could imagine a scenario where one would like to check
i/o behaviour during boot, but in that case debugfs should probably be
mounted in the initrd anyway.

 Are there some other scripts that need to start after the debug file
 system is mounted? If this the case, it would be required to make
 sure these scripts depend on mountdebugfs.

Afaik, blktrace is the onlt utiliy that depends on debugfs. That is
actually the reason that mounting of debugfs was not included in
mountkernfs. If the situation changes and packages start to depend on
it, it should probabyl still be moved there.

 If this is the case, this patch would be better. In addition to
 fixing the header for new installations, it make sure to fix existing
 installation to run the script in runlevels 2-5.

Thanks a lot for the patch! I'll apply it on the next upload (hopefully
rsn).

Best regards,
Bas.

Bug#576016: Acknowledgement (amarok getting repetitious)

2010-04-02 Thread Gordon Haverland
On March 31, 2010, Debian Bug Tracking System wrote:
[ deleted ]

I've tried restarting with Last.fm artists in Dynamic Playlist
mode, Last.fm tracks , and Echo Nest. In all 3 modes, after
slightly under 1 day (20 hours? 18 hours), they all start to get
repetitious. I have also started backing down the fraction, I am
now running at 78%.

In the morning, I turn on the stop after track function. Once
that is done, I clean up the statistics at Last.fm due to getting
repetitious. After playing has halted, I clean the playlist, and
copy Mahna Mahna (Muppets song) to the top of the playlist, and
restart Dynamic play mode. I have noticed that this first batch
of 10 songs that Dynamic mode appends to Mahna Mahna either is the
same as were to play before I stopped play, or substantially the
same. I gather that amarok is not querying Last.fm for
suggestions on this restart? Cycling the repopulate once or twice
seems to produce a significantly different playlist.

Hopefully by adding data, at some point some answer is found, or
maybe others are seeing something similar. In any event, this
should give us a place to add information, which might be helpful
in tracking down this behavior.

Happy Easter to all.
Gord

Yes, you are right. Recommends should add non-vital functionality.
Like a tray-icon for Pidgin, but Pidgin runs fine without it.
The problem is that springgraph crashes without this recommended package.
I think no program should crash on a valid Debian installation!
And a installation without recommends is valid!

 A package for every small script is not really feasible in Debian and the
 current way of working with Recommends is a good compromise.

Yes, for a small script it is better to add the correct dependencies.

 Note that APT by default installs all Recommended packages, so the admin
 explicitly needs to remove that package to get into this situation.

AFAIK this default has been changes lately and does not affect the
validity of a Debian installation.
Many admins use '''APT::Install-Recommends 0;''' because they do not
like this new behaviour.

 Let me explain more.

 In the scenario, I assume:

   No aliasing between A and B.
   We have aliasing between kernel access and user access.

 Before COW breaking A and B share same data (with no aliasing same
 space identifier color), and B sees data in cache, while memory has
 stale data.

 At COW breaking, kernel copies the memory, it doesn't see new data
 in cache because of aliasing.

 Isn't it possible?

So your theory is that the data the kernel sees doing the page copy can
be stale because of dirty cache lines in userspace (which is certainly
possible in the ordinary way)? By design that shouldn't happen: the
idea behind COW breaking is that before it breaks, the page is read
only ... this means that processes can have clean cache copies of it,
but never dirty cache copies (because writes are forbidden). As soon as
one or other process tries to write to the page, it gets a memory
protection trap long before the data it's trying to write goes into the
cache. By the time the write is allowed to complete (and the cache
becomes dirty), the process will have the new copy of the page which
belongs exclusively to it.

Ahhh, I got it now: That package is not arch:all, and you use i386 (not

Other packages are arch-dependent too, so even if sugar-artwork isn't to

I'll try find some time to sideport to i386 shortly...

Bug#576272: lemon: Does no more generate .c and .h files, just .out

2010-04-02 Thread Axel Beckert
Package: lemon
Version: 3.6.23-1
Severity: important

With lemon 3.6.22-1, the current netsurf package in Sid builds
fine. With lemon 3.6.23-1 it FTBFS (http://bugs.debian.org/574299),
because lemon does no more build css/parser.c and css/parser.h out of
css/parser.y. It only outputs a file named css/parser.out since
3.6.23-1.

I haven't found any hint on this changed behaviour (just Updates to
Lemon) in either README.Debian, changelog.Debian.gz or changelog.gz
of sqlite3, so I consider this change being unwanted, a regression,
and therefore a bug.

Fabricio Rocha rocha_fabri...@yahoo.com.br napsal(a):

 Same thing here in a Acer Aspire One AOA150 netbook. gsynaptics was
 working until it was upgraded to a stub package which only installs
 gpointing-device-settings. Enable Tapping can be either checked or
 unchecked, and the thing does not work. I tried to downgrade to
 gsynaptics once again, reboot, but tapping seems dead now.

 Please, please, PLEASE, stop forcing gpointing-device-settings into
 Debian because IT SIMPLY IS NOT READY YET.

Nobody forces you to install it, it is completely optional package. And
it works perfectly for my trackpoint so it definitely has some use.

The problem with gsynaptics is that it no longer works with current
Xservers so it really does not make sense to distribute it.

I guess for debugging symbols, but not for Python debug builds. For
them, you need to normally build the package with pythonX.Y-dbg as
the interpreter, and then rename the .so extensions to _d.so (so that
python-dbg can find them). Also those builds need to be done with

Thanks for reminding us :-)

Would you care to try hack something together? This one I did not write

Bug#576274: infrequent, but persistent blank screens with Intel GMA900

2010-04-02 Thread bugreport
Package: linux-image-2.6.32-3-686
Version: 2.6.32-9

This bug also applies to linux-source and linux-image packages going back to at
least 2.6.30

I have not reported this, because I have no useful log file entries. And I
thought because the chipset is so common that someone else will report it more
properly (with more information).

I have tried different linux-source packages as well as linux-image packages.

The problem usually occurs after some time and one or two software suspends
(pm-suspend --auto-quirks). Shortly before it the screen will usually jump
horizontally. The jumping will not stop if not changing virtual screens in X.
Then, after some time it will get really bad. Then the screen suddenly blanks
(backlight will stay on). It only effects the screen. Everything else will
still work, confirmed by remote login via ssh.

Hardware:

Bug#576243: linux-base postinst exits when no /etc/fstab in Debian live

When creating a Debian live system with live-helper, there is no file

Ben.

Got it. Thanks.
Look forward to the next release.

Steven.

This actually looks as if you're not inside a VM at all, but I'm not sure if
using an older version triggers the sane output.

Bug#574584: module-init-tools: modprobe is too chatty with parse_toplevel_config and parse_kcmdline

2010-04-02 Thread Michael Prokop
* Chung-chieh Shan k...@digitas.harvard.edu [Thu Mar 18, 2010 at 11:43:37PM
-0700]:

 After I added i915.modeset=1 to my kernel cmdline today, modprobe
 started printing options i915 modeset=1 to stdout whenever it is
 invoked (even just to add or remove a non-existent module, add an
 already-loaded module, or remove a never-loaded module). Further
 investigation revealed that modprobe -c repeats the first few hundred
 lines of its config output. I am not so familiar with the internals
 of modprobe, but perhaps the following patch is the right fix to both
 problems?

Addon: initramfs related scripts that use a modprobe call in a
function that's being evaluated in another one, but don't redirect
stdout to /dev/null can seriously fail due to this behaviour.

Cc-ing debian-live, as they might be interested in this issue as
well, for now the following patch addresses this issue for
live-initramfs:

  No, you just need to read the documentation and disable the warning if
  you've understand what it can cause.

 I'd rather not have to do that.

The is no way around - Suhosin imposes limits on lengths of request,
it's content and lengths of variables. Depending on your tables you can
be easily hit by those limits.

For example if you edit more rows at once, you can easily hit limit of
200 variables per request - each column uses 4 variables (name,
function, null, value) what gives you at most 50 fields you can edit at
once (it is actually less because there are also some administrative
fields required to know which table you're updating and so on).

Bug#576276: mpich-bin: No way to force using ssh instead of rsh

2010-04-02 Thread Samuel Thibault
Package: mpich-bin
Version: 1.2.7-9.1
Severity: important
tags: patch

Hello,

I want to use mpich on a machine I'm not root on, and that has the
rsh-client package installed. The problem is that when I run

mpirun.mpich -machinefile machines -np 2 ./test

mpirun runs /usr/bin/rsh by default, which thus tries to use the rsh
protocol, which is not supported by the particular machines I want to
connect to. It seems there is no way to change it into /usr/bin/ssh:
none of the following work:

RSHCOMMAND=ssh mpirun.mpich -machinefile machines -np 2 ./test
mpirun.mpich -rsh ssh -machinefile machines -np 2 ./test

Indeed, mpirun.mpich forces RSHCOMMAND to /usr/bin/rsh, and although
mpirun.ch_p4.args indeed parses -rsh ssh, it gets overriden by further
parameter parsing:

$ sh -x /usr/bin/mpirun.mpich -machinefile machines -np 2 -rsh ssh ./test
...
+ RSHCOMMAND=/usr/bin/rsh
...
+ . /usr/lib/mpich/bin/mpirun.args
...
++ arg=-rsh
++ shift
++ case $arg in
...
++ . /usr/lib/mpich/bin/mpirun.ch_p4.args
+++ setrshcmd=no
...
+++ rshcmd=ssh
+++ setrshcmd=yes
...
++ arg=./test
++ shift
++ case $arg in
...
++ . /usr/lib/mpich/bin/mpirun.ch_p4.args
+++ setrshcmd=no

And indeed, mpirun.ch_p4 reads as
# Last rshcmd steps
if [ $setrshcmd = yes ] ; then
P4_RSHCOMMAND=$rshcmd
fi
if [ -n $P4_RSHCOMMAND ] ; then
export P4_RSHCOMMAND
fi

Could the attached patch be perhaps applied to fix this?

Bug#576117: [signing-party] springgraph depends on libgd-gd2*-perl

 Yes, you are right. Recommends should add non-vital functionality.
 Like a tray-icon for Pidgin, but Pidgin runs fine without it.
 The problem is that springgraph crashes without this recommended package.
 I think no program should crash on a valid Debian installation!
 And a installation without recommends is valid!

I don't agree that it 'crashes'. It displays exactly what is going on:
GD.pm is missing:

[th...@morgana]~$ springgraph
Can't locate GD.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /etc/perl
/usr/local/lib/perl/5.10.1 /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.1 /usr/lib/perl5

/usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at /usr/bin/springgraph line 187.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/bin/springgraph line 187.

You may reason that an even better message would be Could not find GD.pm;
please install libgd-gd2-perl to get it.. That would probably be nice but
I do think that given the package's target audience, and that you need to
be a somewhat more advanced user anyway when not installing Recommends,
the current message suffices. However, if a patch is submitted to change
this message I'll probably apply it.

That is their own choice and they should be prepared to deal with the
occasional consequence to have to install an extra package to make use of
full functionality.

cheers,
Thijs

Bug#531868: is this still a problem?

2010-04-02 Thread Andres Cimmarusti
is this still a problem with the newer radeon driver from squeeze? If
so, could you try getting the even newer one
from sid (you'll need a newer kernel as well, either 2.6.32-10 from sid or
2.6.33 from experimental). For this you will need to enable Kernel
modesetting. add *radeon* to /etc/modules and put *options radeon modeset=1* in
/etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf (you'll probably need to create the file).

That's very cool on its own :) I'll see if we can use it from those

gtk+2.0).

Please report back to this bugreport how it goes with using my
multiflavor support in recent mainline cdbs.

If running into trouble then perhaps I van help :-)

Your implementation is quite exciting to look at. Parts of it I
don't like - e.g. setting per-rule variables I feel should be
avoided. But some parts are interesting - like bug#500118 which I
did not know about. Obvious when you think about it, I just didn't
until now :-P

You don't until you hit a bug ;) I was going to report a separate bug
about it.

Ahem - please do file a separate bugreport: I have too much in my head
at the moment so even if I did read up on it recently I have lost it
again, and would appreciate if you could summarize in a separate
bugreport.

Please do not report back to this bugreport on that issue but file a
_separate_ bugreport - let's shrink this one to be about multiflavor
support.

Another thing I haven't gotten around to play with is parallelised
builds. In case you want a challenge ;-)

Doesn't CDBS support it already?

Yes, the infrastructure is there and is used for some (but not all
possible) classes. It is just that _I_ haven't played with it so do not
know if it works properly ;-)

Bug#472108: Found a solution

2010-04-02 Thread Anthony Campbell
After reading NEWS.Debian.gz for xserver-xorg-video-radeon I followed
the suggestion to turn off KMS by editing
/etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf. I could then switch back and forth
between X and VT without problems.

Perhaps this information should also be included in the documentation
for xserver-xorg-video-ati?

Bug#504805: Work around

2010-04-02 Thread micah

Eventually I stumbled on a way to keep my machines from restarting, its
not a great solution, but it stops me from having to deal with the
failure on a daily basis. I think that anyone else who is having this
problem can do this and it will work. Obviously this is not the right
solution, but it works until we can get a fix.

First I made sure this was set:

/etc/xen/xend-config.sxp: (dom0-cpus 0)

Then I pinned individual physical CPUs to specific domU's, once pinned,
the problem stops.

What does that mean? Well, Xen does this wacky thing where it creates
virtual CPUs (VCPUs), each domU has one of them by default (but you can
have more), and then it moves physical CPUs between those VCPUs
depending on need.

So lets say you have four CPUs, and a domU. That domU has one VCPU by
default. That VCPU could actually have the physical CPU 0, 1, 2, 3 all
servicing it to provide that VCPU, even at the same time. I found
somewhere that this can be a performance hit, because it needs to figure
out how to deal with this and switch contexts. I also read that it could
cause some instability (!), so pinning the physical CPUs so they don't
move around seemed to solve this.

The pinning does not stick across reboots, so it has to be done again if
the system is rebooted, and it isn't really possible to set this in a
startup script, at least I don't think so.

So how do you do this? If you look at 'xm vcpu-list' (which annoyingly
isn't listed in 'xm help') you will see the CPU column populated with a
random CPU, depending on scheduling, and then the CPU Affinity column
all say 'any cpu'. This means that any physical CPU could travel between
them, and would, depending on the scheduling. Once you pin things, then
the individual domU's are set to have specific CPU affinities, so the
CPUs don't 'travel' between them, and magically the crash stops.

So an example:

r...@shoveler:~# xm vcpu-list
NameID VCPU CPU State Time(s) CPU Affinity
Domain-0 0 0 1   -b-  283688.8 any cpu
Domain-0 0 1 1   ---   39666.3 any cpu
Domain-0 0 2 1   r--   49224.4 any cpu
Domain-0 0 3 1   -b-   75591.1 any cpu
kite 1 0 3   -b-   71411.8 any cpu
murrelet 2 0 0   -b-  47.2 any cpu
test 3 0 0   r--  342182.3 any cpu

So we want to fix that final column using 'xm vcpu-pin' (also a command
not listed in 'xm help'):

Usage: xm vcpu-pin Domain VCPU|all CPUs|all

Set which CPUs a VCPU can use.

r...@shoveler:~# xm vcpu-pin 0 0 0
r...@shoveler:~# xm vcpu-pin 0 1 0
r...@shoveler:~# xm vcpu-pin 0 2 0
r...@shoveler:~# xm vcpu-pin 0 3 0
r...@shoveler:~# xm vcpu-pin 1 0 1
r...@shoveler:~# xm vcpu-pin 2 0 2
r...@shoveler:~# xm vcpu-pin 3 0 3

r...@shoveler:~# xm vcpu-list
Name ID VCPU CPU State Time(s) CPU Affinity
Domain-0  0 0 1   -b-  283700.3 0
Domain-0  0 1 1   r--   39669.6 0
Domain-0  0 2 1   -b-   49227.4 0
Domain-0  0 3 1   -b-   75596.2 0
kite  1 0 3   -b-   71415.3 1
murrelet  2 0 0   -b-  472237.8 2
test  3 0 0   r--  342182.3 3

And voila, no more crashes... :P

Bug#576286: Squeeze: please, change default reserved blocks size on partitioning to Ext3/Ext4

2010-04-02 Thread Joao Eriberto Mota Filho
Package: installation-reports
Severity: wishlist

Dear d-i developers,

Considering that present HDs are very large, I think default reserved block
size to Ext3/Ext4 can be 1% instead 5%. It will optimize the space usage by OS.
It is a suggestion.

Regards,

Eriberto - Brazil

Bug#576281: Acknowledgement (libnids: CVE-2010-1144 null pointer dereference)

2010-04-02 Thread Nico Golde
BTW I only filed this as important as the only application in Debian which
seems to use this lib is dsniff and in this case it's not really an important
issue.

Cheers

Bug#576274: infrequent, but persistent blank screens with Intel GMA900

outdated, please test against newer in unstable.

 This bug also applies to linux-source and linux-image packages going back to
 at least 2.6.30

 I have not reported this, because I have no useful log file entries. And I
 thought because the chipset is so common that someone else will report it
 more properly (with more information).

 Hardware:

 http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Intel_915GM

and provide dmesg of 2.6.32-10, thanks.
