Bug#586629: frontaccounting: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review
Package: frontaccounting Version: N/A Severity: normal Tags: patch Dear Debian maintainer, On Thursday, June 03, 2010, I notified you of the beginning of a review process concerning debconf templates for frontaccounting. The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates, and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report. Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any objections, let me know in the next 3 days. However, please try to avoid uploading frontaccounting with these changes right now. The second phase of this process will begin on Thursday, June 24, 2010, when I will coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates. The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will receive an updated PO file for their language. Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to the debian-i18n mailing list. Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with. The call for translation updates and new translations will run until about Thursday, July 15, 2010. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of course, other changes are safe. Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact that I simultaneously work on many packages. Around Friday, July 16, 2010, I will contact you again and will send a final patch summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates, updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations). Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash --- frontaccounting.old/debian/templates2010-05-30 09:28:48.998670799 +0200 +++ frontaccounting/debian/templates2010-06-18 06:55:13.552841721 +0200 @@ -1,6 +1,15 @@ +# These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english +# team +# +# If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask +# debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org for advice. +# +# Even minor modifications require translation updates and such +# changes should be coordinated with translators and reviewers. + Template: frontaccounting/webserver Type: multiselect -_Choices: apache2, lighttpd +__Choices: apache2, lighttpd _Description: Web server to reconfigure automatically: Please choose the web server that should be automatically configured to run FrontAccounting. @@ -8,126 +17,132 @@ Template: frontaccounting/db_initialized Type: boolean Default: false -_Description: Has the database already been initialized? +_Description: Has the FrontAccounting database already been initialized? Bug#558275: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the ntlmaps package
Dear maintainer of ntlmaps and Debian translators, Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the ntlmaps Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS. I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other pending translations. The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four days, so I will proceed with the NMU. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: cs de es fr it pt ru sv vi Among these, the following translations are incomplete: none If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report against the ntlmaps package so I can incorporate them in the build. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Sunday, June 27, 2010. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Otherwise the following will happen (or already has): Wednesday, June 16, 2010 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. Monday, June 21, 2010 : send this notice Sunday, June 27, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation updates Monday, June 28, 2010 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/7-day send the NMU patch to the BTS Monday, July 05, 2010 : NMU uploaded to incoming Thanks for your efforts and time. -- -- # SOME DESCRIPTIVE TITLE. # Copyright (C) YEAR THE PACKAGE'S COPYRIGHT HOLDER # This file is distributed under the same license as the PACKAGE package. # FIRST AUTHOR em...@address, YEAR. # #, fuzzy msgid msgstr Project-Id-Version: PACKAGE VERSION\n Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: da...@planetwatson.co.uk\n POT-Creation-Date: 2006-07-17 22:22+0100\n PO-Revision-Date: YEAR-MO-DA HO:MI+ZONE\n Last-Translator: FULL NAME em...@address\n Language-Team: LANGUAGE l...@li.org\n MIME-Version: 1.0\n Content-Type: text/plain; charset=CHARSET\n Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n #. Bug#579948: [parted-devel] Some debugging info

It seems to me that either (a) _get_lax_constraint should be using ped_alignment_any for its start alignment, rather than aligning to sectors * heads boundaries, or (b) Sun labels really and truly require cylinder alignment, in which case requests to use optimal alignment shouldn't be honoured. The begin of the partition has to be defined in cylinders: struct __attribute__ ((packed)) _SunRawPartition { u_int32_t start_cylinder; /* where the part starts... */ u_int32_t num_sectors;/* ...and it's length */ }; IMHO it does not make sense to use non-cylinder alignment here. In that case, I think that the sun part of 723ea23c5df68cbe67d1f518ef484f4c77f516fa should be reverted. CCing Hans since that was his change. I have tried this patch out (by building custom libparted0-udeb_2.2-7_sparc.udeb and parted-udeb_2.2-7_sparc.udeb, and fetching/installing them during installation, before partitioning step). Unfortunately, I still get 16.8GB partitions, even though their size is now calculated correctly, so I don't get free space gaps as before. Upgrade texlive-base-bin (2007.dfsg.2-4+lenny1) to texlive-base-bin (2007.dfsg.2-8). 3. Go to 1. Bug#581312: [Pkg-acpi-devel] Bug#581312: acpi-support: Wireless toggling is broken
On 15 June 2010 18:47, Michael Meskes mes...@debian.org wrote: Is it possible to keep the old stuff as a fall back solution? Would that make sense at all? I think it would be hard to do (the main problem is that rfkill devices are not uniquely linked to wireless interfaces, so trying to use both systems would lead to any kind of trouble), and I don't know if it makes sense. Is it really a common use case to update acpi-support while still using a very old kernel? There seems to be a problem with that file though as it adds a dependency on wicd. Is this on purpose? Mmm, does it? if you mean the line /usr/share/wicd/daemon/autoconnect.py || : it won't fail if wicd isn't installed, since it's ORred with true (well, it spits an error line, but then it returns 0), and I don't propose to make acpi-support depend on wicd. It's just that wicd doesn't reconnect after toggling wifi off and on if you don't poke it (wpa_supplicant and Network Manager do, AFAIK) I can change it with [ -x /usr/share/wicd/daemon/autoconnect.py ] /usr/share/wicd/daemon/autoconnect.py if you prefer. Bug#584881: Lockups under heavy disk IO; md (RAID) resync/check implicated
Ben Hutchings writes (Re: Bug#584881: Lockups under heavy disk IO; md (RAID) resync/check implicated): We really need to see the kernel messages reporting soft-lockup. There aren't any. Or, if there are, it isn't printing them to the serial console. Perhaps it is trying to send them only to syslogd which obviously can't write to the disk either. I know that the serial console is working after the crash as it echoes my first carriage return (although then login or the shell wedges before being able to print a prompt). I could have asked for a magic sysrq process dump but given that the process table is probably full I expect this would take many hours at 9600bps. Note that your disk configuration is unusual and probably not well-tested by others. It is unlikely that anyone in the kernel team will be able to debug this as I don't think any of us have particular expertise in this area. Search the web suggests that symptoms very similar to mine are not uncommon, including instances without soft lockup messages, and none of the other users seem to have a similar disk layout. I can't easily test this theory but I think the unusual disk layout is probably simply making a race easier to trigger. If you have the opportunity, it would be helpful if you could test a newer kernel version. This would give us a clue as to whether the bug has subsequently been fixed upstream, and if not then it would be the basis for an upstream bug report. Unfortunately testing this bug on the live system involves (a) risking a crash and then if the test fails (b) an extremely vulnerable system without backups for the following four days. I'll see if I can borrow a spare R210 from Jump, in which case I may be able to reproduce the problem in controlled conditions on my coffee table at home (and with access to the VGA console). Which kernel should I test in that case ? Ian. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

It looks like the device is called /dev/usb/lp0, not /dev/usb/scanner0, although it still doesn't work even when explicitly told to look there. sane-find-scanner relies on a number of heuristics to detect and report devices attached to the host system that can possibly be scanners. As there is no definitive method to identify a scanner, heuristics need to be added to detect new scanners that do not fall into the exisiting heuristics. Since you have access to the actual hardware, you're in a position to develop, test and propose new heuristics for this particular hardware. If you can come up with a patch, please send it to sane-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org. Right, I have dns2tcpd working through some ns servers out there. It does not pretend to do more. Bug#586494: linux-image-2.6.26-2-686: Dell PowerEdge 4200's don't work with 2.6.26
Ben, Another option that may be worth trying is 'noapic'. Wow, that worked just fine actually on 2.6.26 stock kernel. Thanks a lot! I am curious though, what in the world changed since 2.6.18 and lower versions that might have required noapic? I've seen the option needed by so many people on many occasions, but I've never needed it until now. Any ideas? BTW, I also attached the dmesg for 2.6.26 working just for reference to anyone else who might stumble upon this bug, and for your curiosity as well. You need to get the corresponding linux-base package from testing or experimental, but the other dependencies should be satisfiable in lenny. FWIW, I did try grab linux-base too, but it then wanted to pull in a bunch of other packages to do with perl and stuff, so I just opted to recompile using the config and the source package and backport it manually with less hassle (assuming 5 hour compiles are less hassle lol). Also, I did try 2.6.32 from squeeze (after removing the lguest makefile line stopping the compile) and the vanilla 2.6.34 (after a UTS issue that involved tweaking /linux/ path to /generated/) kernel with noapic, and everything worked flawlessly. A shame it took an hour to hand configure 2.6.34 though, but at least I know to disable apic now. Anyways, thank you Obi-Wan Kenobi, errr, old Ben Kenobi ;) troubled -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? The standalone server can run as an inetd service, or in daemon mode, and offers basic authentication and authorization. It can also be tunnelled over ssh. It goes on to recommend using svnserve with SASL if encryption is required, instead of tunnelling with SSH which is effectively the same as local users accessing via file://, which in turn is strongly discouraged. It doesn't always, and that's really the problem. avant-window-navigator is an example: it ignores skip taskbar windows but not utility windows. I even asked their devs about it, and basically they said the application should set skip taskbar itself -- the opposite of what you suggest! What I see here is two groups pointing fingers at each other, which solves exactly nothing. While it's certainly possible (with a sufficiently sophisticated window manager, like Compiz) to forcibly add skip taskbar to all utility windows, not every user of Gimp is likely to know how to do this. Not every window manager is capable of doing this, either; I don't seem to remember Metacity having any way of changing window manager hints like that. signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Bug#586618: Finding wrong packages in depencency list (Was: education-desktop-lxde: Mistake in its suggested packages)
Hi, when reading this bug report I would like to *repeat* my hint which I have given since about 1.5 years in different forms that anybody with a login on Alioth can see this kind of problems by doing a less /var/lib/gforge/chroot/home/users/tille/blends/webtools/logs/debian-edu.err For your comfort I'm attaching a (little bit stripped) version from today in the end of this mail. I would strongly advise to browse your tasks files for the packages below and check for the reasons why the packages mentioned in the log are not in the Debian package pool. The reasons might be various. One might be misspellings as in this bug report and there might be more of them which needs fixing. Other reasons might be that a package was removed from Debian - it makes no sense to keep them in the tasks files any more. A further reason might be that you wanted to add the package as a prospective package but forgot the Pkg-Description field in the tasks file. If you want to prevent bugs like this just work down this list. BTW, I fixed this actual bug in SVN. Kind regards Andreas. Missing description for package gstar.
